How Does Hill Start Assist Work

When the system activates, your vehicle remains stationary for a few seconds after you release the brake pedal.This gives you time to move your foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal.The brakes release when you apply the accelerator pedal and the vehicle begins to move forward, or the vehicle is stationary beyond the Hill Start Assist hold time.

The system activates when your vehicle is in any forward gear and facing uphill, or when your vehicle is in reverse (R) and facing downhill.

WHAT IS HILL START ASSIST

This feature applies the brakes to hold your vehicle after you bring the vehicle to a stop on a slope.

HILL START ASSIST PRECAUTIONS

WARNING   WARNING:  The system does not replace the parking brake. When you leave your vehicle, always apply the parking brake.
WARNING   WARNING:  You must remain in your vehicle when the system turns on. At all times you are responsible for controlling your vehicle, supervising the system, and intervening if required. Failure to follow this instruction could result in the loss of control of your vehicle, personal injury or death.
WARNING   WARNING:  The system turns off if there is a malfunction.

SWITCHING HILL START ASSIST ON AND OFF - MANUAL TRANSMISSION

You can switch hill start assist on and off on the touchscreen:

  1. Press Features on the touchscreen.
  1. Press Driver Assistance.
  1. Switch Hill Start Assist on or off.

Note:   The system remembers the last setting when you start your vehicle.

SWITCHING HILL START ASSIST ON AND OFF - AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Hill start assist is active when you switch the ignition on. You cannot switch the system on or off.
