Different information may be shown in the driving data menu (MFD) of the instrument cluster depending on the vehicle equipment:
-
Open doors, hood and trunk lid.
-
Driving data menu.
-
Warning and information texts ⇒ Warning and information texts.
-
Odometer displays.
-
Time.
-
Radio and navigation information ⇒ Radio mode.
-
Phone information ⇒ Mobile phone interface.
-
Outside temperature.
-
Compass display.
-
Selector lever position.
-
Gear recommendation ⇒ Gear recommendation.
-

-
Engine code ().
Open doors, hood and trunk lid
If the doors and hood
or trunk lid
are open after unlocking the vehicle and while driving, this will be shown in the driving data menu and may also be indicated audibly. The display may vary depending on the instrument cluster version.
Driving data menu
The driving data menu shows driving and consumption data.
Depending on the vehicle equipment, various driving data can be displayed. The displayed driving data is dependent on the current driving style, the vehicle status (e.g. particle filter regeneration) and the current driving situation (e.g. city traffic, highway journeys). The driving data is determined as an average value over sections of different distances and the currently displayed value may therefore differ from the actual average value.
Switching between the displays
Vehicles with multi-function steering wheel:
-
Press the
or
button on the multi-function steering wheel.
Switching memories
Vehicles with multi-function steering wheel:
-
Press the
button on the multi-function steering wheel.
Since start memory
If the trip is interrupted for more than two hours, the memory is erased.
Extended period memory
The memory collects the driving data up to 19 hours and 59 minutes or 99 hours and 59 minutes driving time or 1999.9 miles (km) or 9999.9 miles (km) distance driven. If one of these maximum thresholds is met, the memory is erased. The maximum thresholds may vary depending on the version of the instrument cluster.
Erasing the driving data memory
Vehicles with multi-function steering wheel:
-
Select the memory to be erased.
-
Press the
button on the multi-function steering wheel.
Possible driving data menus
fuel consumption display
- The average fuel consumption is displayed after approximately 984 ft (approximately 300 meters).
- Range display
- This indicates the approximate distance in miles (km) the vehicle can travel under the same driving conditions.
speed display
- The average speed is displayed after approximately 328 ft. (approximately 100 meters).
Odometer displays
The odometer registers the total distance that the vehicle has driven.
The trip odometer (trip) shows the miles that were driven since the trip odometer was last reset.
Outside temperature display
When outside temperatures are colder than approximately +4°C (+39°F), a snowflake symbol also appears on the outside temperature display . This symbol remains on until the outside temperature rises above +43 °F (+6 °C).
In the following situations, the temperature displayed may be higher than the actual outside temperature due to heat radiating from the engine:
-
When the vehicle is stationary
-
When the driving speed is very low
The measurement range is from -40 °C (-40 °F) to +122 °F (+50 °C)
WARNING
Streets and bridges may be icy when outside temperatures are above the freezing point.
-
The
snowflake symbol indicates a possible risk of black ice.
-
Black ice may also be present when outside temperatures are above +39 °F (+4 °C) when the
snowflake symbol is not displayed.
-
Never rely solely on the outside temperature display.
Phone information
If a cell phone is connected via Bluetooth®, the Bluetooth® symbol will be displayed in the driving data menu.
The symbol also indicates the charge level of the mobile device.
Compass display
When the ignition and navigation system are switched on, the compass direction that the vehicle is currently traveling in is shown in the driving data menu.
Selector lever position
The selector lever position that is engaged is shown on the side of the selector lever and in the driving data menu. In the D/S position and with tiptronic, the relevant gear may also be shown on the display.
Gear recommendation
A recommendation to select a fuel-saving gear may be displayed in the driving data menu while driving ⇒ Gear recommendation.
Setting a speed warning
Vehicles with multi-function steering wheel:
-
Select Warning at --- km/h or Warning at --- mph.
-
Press the
button on the multi-function steering wheel to save the current speed and to activate the warning.
-
Set the speed on the multi-function steering wheel within approximately five seconds by pressing the
or
button. Then press the
button or wait several seconds.
The speed will then be saved and the warning will be activated.
-
Press the
button again to deactivate.
The stored speed is erased.
If the stored speed is exceeded (in the range from 18 mph (30 km/h) to 155 mph (250 km/h)), a warning chime sounds and, where applicable, a visual warning is displayed. Depending on the country, this warning is also given at speeds of over approximately 75 mph (approximately 120 km/h). This warning is required by law and cannot be altered.
Secondary speed display
During the journey, as well as in the speedometer display, the speed can also be displayed in different units (mph or km/h) in the driving data menu. In the Settings menu, select the Secondary speed menu item.
Vehicles without menu display in the instrument cluster:
-
Start the engine.
-
Press the
button three times.
The total distance indicator in the driving data menu blinks.
-
Press the
button once.
“mph” or “km/h” is temporarily displayed in place of the odometer display.
The secondary speed display is thereby activated. You can deactivate it in the same way.
The display cannot be deactivated on model versions for countries in which permanent display of the secondary speed is legally required.
Engine code (EC)
-
To display the vehicle's engine code () in the driving data menu, tap and hold the
button on the instrument cluster ⇒ Overview of the analog instrument cluster (approx. 15 seconds). To do so, the ignition must be switched on and the engine must not be running.
In very low outside temperatures, the indicators in the driving data menu may take longer to turn on than in warm outside temperatures.
There are different instrument clusters; therefore the versions and displays of the driving data menu may vary.
If there are multiple warning messages, the symbols will appear consecutively for several seconds. The symbols will appear until the malfunction is corrected.
