The vehicle lost power steering, traction control, and brakes upon entering the freeway on ramp. to stop the vehicle and endangering other drivers, i was forced to crash into the concrete wall barrier on the drivers side of the on ramp. there were no warning lights on the dashboard until after coming to a stop and the engine died. at that point the warning lights came on. *tr

Power steering went out. service power steering msg along with service advancetrac msg came up on dash. took car to dealer next morning( saturday 10/6/2012) steering still not working and service messages still on dash. service writer moved car later that day because they did not have a technician look at it. he stated when he moved the car the steering was not working(problem existed) . car sat at dealer until monday 10/8 they called and said it was working properly and they could not find a problem...they would drive it and see if they could replicate the problem. it is now wednesday 10/10 and they say they have not been able to duplicate the steering problem. they don't know how to help me.....service manager said ford will not let them replace parts on a trial and error basis.... before they can replace a part they must be able to confirm it is bad.....this is very dangerous. the car cannot be driven safely if this happens again. *tr

On october 4, 2012, i was driving my 2010 ford fusion around 40 m.p.h. on a four lane street when the power steering failed/locked for no reason. the electronic display said "power steering assist fault. service advancetrac" i drove straight for 5 miles and knew there was a dealer on the left side and managed a wide left turn into the dealership. when i waited for the representative to come to my car, i turned off the engine. i explained what happened and he asked to see the display. i turned the car back on, the display was gone and the power steering was back on. i left the dealer and went on-line and found numerous complaints about the same problem. i also learned that it is useless to take the car to ford for service because dealers claim that the computer is not showing a diagnostic code and they need to "replicate the problem" (which is highly unlikely that it will happen while at the dealer). i also learned that it has happened to some customers many times and there is no warning or reason why the ps suddenly fails. further, it appears that dealers have no idea how to correct the problem. it is a safety issue. it is dangerous, especially if it fails when trying to make a turn. i went back to the dealer and was told that they never heard of this issue and it could be anything. i then called corporate headquarters for ford and filed a complaint. i was told that they would get back to me today, october 5, 2012. i have heard nothing. this needs to be investigated immediately. i cannot afford to buy a new car. i also cannot in good conscience sell my car with this dangerous defect. i feel that ford is forcing me to drive an unsafe car and i am extremely scared that the ps will go out again in a situation that will cause me to crash or worse. *tr the consumer stated the dealer replaced the steering rack. the consumer stated the power steering has not failed since. however, the vehicle seemed to steer hard and would pull to the left or right when braking. ...

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the power steering assist failed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the steering computer module was reset. the contact also stated that the failure recurred several times. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall on the vehicle. the failure mileage was 131,000 and the current mileage was 132,000.

I was on the freeway when engine speed suddenly went to idle. i was in the middle lane and almost got into a crash trying to get to the road side. when i brought the car to the ford dealer they said the throttle body was bad and it cost me $500.00 they said it was not covered under the power train warranty,go figure. also the transmission does not down shift properly after heavy acceleration, they said it was normal. it's no wonder why people shy away from so called american cars,it will be my last. *tr

I had not had any issues with my car, but i left my house to drive my daughter to tumbling which was 7 miles from my house. i was about 3 miles from my home when a warning sound and the lights on my dashboard stated check power steering. i assumed that i needed power steering. i arrived at tumbling, parked for an hour. when i started the car a new message was on the dash stating service power steering now and service advance autotrac. i put the car in reverse and backed up, but when i turned the steering wheel it was locked, i could barely move the wheel. i was blocking the traffic in the parking lot and had to pull forward and park. i turned the car off and on and received the same message. therefore i was stranded in the parking lot. we took the car to a ford service dept. they told us that this is an issue that they have been having with ford fusions as well as other fords but there was no recall. i paid for them to perform a diagnostic test the results were that they would have to replace the steering panel for $1500 and the part was on back order, but first they reset the codes, and the power steering warning was gone the car test drove and drove home fine. the next morning i left to take my daughters to school and the same cycle of events happened i was afraid to turn the car off when i dropped them off at school so that i would not be stranded. i kept the car on and drove the car to the dealership where i purchased the car paid again for a test and was told the same thing. i told them to repair the car. i called ford co. and they told me that they were not aware of this issue and although i saw numerous complaints on the internet they were not true. meanwhile my car is ready and i have to come up with 1500 for an issue that ford knows they are having problems with. i am afraid my car will have problems again, this is a safety issue when it comes to steering. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that the accelerator pedal became inoperable. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the torque converter needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the contact took the vehicle back to the dealer where they advised that the power assist warning light was illuminated and that the power steering needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and advised the contact that the vehicle was no longer under warranty. the failure mileage was 53,000.

Lost power steering. has happened three times since. *tr

Was backing out of driveway and got a warning light that said the power steering needed serviced and then the steering got hard...im a grown man and it is so hard for me to drive and turn the wheels.this is my wife's car and im so thankful so wasn't driving it when this happened there's no way she could have controlled it.very bad design and a safety issue. *js

I was driving on the highway at a steady speed when all of a sudden, the gas pedal stopped responding, almost as if i was in neutral. i was able to get over to the shoulder. it took a few tries of restarting the car in order to get it going. the same incident happened again the next week. *tr

Upon starting my car in my driveway, a message appeared across the dashboard reading "power steering assist fault" also "service advance trac". i bought this car not even 8 months ago, the mileage being over what a warranty could cover. twice i was turned away because the vehicle being too "new" the coding could not be detected, reading there was nothing wrong. clearly with no power steering, and the messages going off...there was something wrong. this is not the first of this exact same complaint i have found online regarding the same year, make and model of this vehicle. it is now sitting at a garage and i am waiting on the verdict. not to mention i have to pay just to have it diagnosed, i am being told if similar to other problems that sound like this one, i could be looking at anywhere from $800-1500 + for this to be solved. why will ford not come out with a recall by now, after all of the similar complaints!? i have always been partial to ford's and now regret ever making the purchase. please help out your customers ford! *tr

I was driving at speeds around 45 when the "advance track" warning appeared, at which time i lost power steering, the day i bought the car used. it's happened a total of around10 times while driving. once while i was traveling at highway speeds. if the car was turned off then back on, it would clear the fault out. since this has happened, the car has suffered a complete loss of power steering. when i took the car to the dealer prior to the complete loss of power steering, they told me that they couldn't replicate the issue, there for couldn't fix anything under warranty. i haven't taken the car in for repair now because there should be a recall and now it's no longer covered under warranty. so many people are having the same issue, it seems to be a problem with the fusion. it's dangers because it happens unexpectedly and sometimes while in the middle of a turn, like what has happened to me twice out of the 10 times. i feel that the fact that i'm a commercial driver only helped me to know what to do. not everyone has the skills that i do, so if this happened to my mother-in-law, it would most likely result in a crash. *tr

2nd time it happened: while driving, electrical power steering gear failed, steering was hard to turn, dealer reset the failure (power steering assist fault; service power steering now) and steering was working fine again. this is a serious safety issue and needs to be investigated. thanks *js

Power steering was in a parking lot. it could be steered by man power. took to ford garage and was the power steering rack. was advised it could have been very dangerous if it had happened on the highway at high speed and on curves which we had just done that day. *tr

The transmission would seem like it would go into neutral between 1-2 shifts and also on the highway it would sometimes act the same in gear 6. the transmission was changed once by ford. reprogrammed 4-5 times, and multiple parts changed and still poor performance exist. this vehicle was purchased new from the same dealer that has serviced it and i would like to claim this as a lemon in the state of fl while still under the factory power train warranty. *tr

While driving on the interstate at about 55 mph, the vehicle lost all power and shut down with the wrench and check engine lights were on. steering was difficult and i almost was hit trying to get vehicle off of the road. after several minutes i tried restarting car and it started, so i made it to my destination and it died again. i had to have it towed to ford. the vehicle was under warranty and they replaced the throttle body assembly. vehicle still has loss of power issues and ford has not solved this issue. this is dangerous as vehicle just turns off at highway speed as this part fails. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact was driving in reverse 2 mph when the power steering assist fault light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised the contact that the power steering assist module was defective. the vehicle was left with the dealer where the contact was awaiting repairs. the failure and current mileage was 52,039.

I have a brand new 2010 ford fusion that has approximately 3000 miles on it. i had a bad experience where the power steering suddenly stopped working while pulling my car out of a parking garage. the vehicle console display showed a 'power steering assist failure' message. i pulled my car over to the side with considerable effort and shut the ignition off. after a few minutes wait, i restarted the car and everything was normal. within a few minutes, a less than a mile traveled, the same failure occurred and the same message was displayed while in a round-about. i again pulled my car over and shut it off. it again restarted and steered fine and i drove immediately to my dealership. the dealership read the code, cleared it and informed me that they could not get the vehicle to reproduce the problem. this is a very scary issue and no components were replaced. i am a prior owner of a chevrolet cobalt and i am familiar with their recall for the electric assist. my cobalt did not fail, but they replaced the assist motor under recall. i did not realize that the ford fusion now has electric assist. are other fusion owners having intermittent failures with their steering? *tr

2010 ford fusion steering problem - car pulls to the left or sometimes right. usually when traveling at lower speeds the steering is terrible, it wants to pull the wheel hard to one side, always happens on uneven road surface - sometimes on even roads - every one of my other cars drive perfect on the same road. took my company car to the dealer to have it looked at - they replaced all 4 tires and did an alignment - charged my fleet $1,200 and it still does the same thing. service manager said that it is a characteristic of the car and ford will not fix it - just live with it. problem is i am stuck with it for another year and a half... *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated when applying the brakes from any speed, the steering wheel would slightly turn to the right. the vehicle was not diagnosed and the contact stated he noticed that failure since purchasing the vehicle. the current and failure mileages were 1,300. updated 08/11/10. *lj the consumer stated the vehicle would pull to the left or right when coming to a stop. updated 08/17/10*jb

Completely lost steering controls while driving at low speed. way to hard to steer without power. luckily i was on my road and was able to limp it home. dash display says service power steering now. had this happened in another condition, i would have lost control of the vehicle. *tr

I bought this car new. in 2010 i lost power steering, at low speed, several times. i took it to the dealer and they did not fix the car as they couldn't find an issue. on the forth occasion i lost power steering and they decided to replace the power steering rack, which was done under warranty. on 10/11/2014 i again lost power steering, at low speed, and now the power steering rack has to be replaced yet again. the mileage at the time of this failure was approximately 78,380 miles. i understand an investigation has been opened by nhtsa regarding this matter and i would like my information/experiences added. this time it is costing me over $1,800.00. *tr

2010 ford fusion sel. customer writes in regards to continued transmission problems.*smd the consumer stated the transmission would slip harshly and hesitate on acceleration. the recall repair did not correct the transmission problems. it was determined that the valve body and solenoid body were defective. also, one of the tires was leaking air, there was an issue with the traction and brakes. there were noises coming from the front of the vehicle. the steering wheel would not lock into place, the cd player did not work at times, the driver side visor did not stay in place, the gas over flow tube was inoperative, the vehicle would pull hard when the brake was applied. the rear driver's side door had to be slammed extremely hard, in order to close it. the driver's side seat belt was backwards. the passenger side windshield wiper dragged on the windshield and the vehicle would sometimes surge on its own. each time the consumer went to the dealer about certain problems, she was told no problems were found.
