We have classified the 1266 complaints from 2010 Ford Fusion about STEERING into the following categories.
While driving the power steering failed and i could not turn as a result i hit the person in front of me however no damage was done to their car. i took to the ford dealership and they said it is an electrical problem and will cost me $1800 to fix however i've seen several complaints and even a class action lawsuit filed and also a recall for the "sedans" have been issued but not for the ford fusion. please help, this is so expensive and i love my car but this is a software system error and i've only had my car for a year. *tr
This is 3rd incident. daughter driving vehicle on interstate approx 75mph. after 1 hr of driving, steering got stiff, advance trac light sensor appeared and "service power steering". she slowed down and was able to exit the interstate safely and park the vehicle at a gas station. after turning off the vehicle and turning back on, power steering was completely out. "service power steering now." my husband went to pick up the vehicle and see if it needed to be towed back to dealer. once the car sat for about an hour, my husband turned on the vehicle and steering was operational. he was able to drive the vehicle back to the dealer (an hour drive on interstate going 50mph). he noted that the steering would come and go - didn't matter what speed he was going- it was sporadic. dealer recommends new power steering even though the power steering was replaced 2 years ago. they weren't sure if this would or would not happen again. seems to be a ford defective part (software issue or sensors) that hasn't been recalled yet so by replacing the module again may only be a band aid till a recall is made and a "fix" is made to this part. ?advance trac sensor,?torque sensor, etc.. seems like once the advance trac sensor is tripped, it's a domino effect and power steering sensor is somehow disabled. ford already recalled other models with this epas for different defective sensors - not sure why the ford fusions haven't been recalled yet. maybe they don't know the exact cause of the power steering failure? *tr
The service advanced auto traction, service power steering and low tire pressure alarms all came same time and unable to turn steering all of sudden.the pressure on tire was good but still showing low tire pressure. *tr
Saturday night i was driving home from the gym with children in my car. the roads are snowy/icy and i was driving between 50-55mph (on straight roads, thankfully) when all of a sudden my light came on to "service power steering now" and the advance track light came on, no warning as soon as those lights came on i lost power steering completely. on icy roads. i thank god i was not in rush hour, omg i can only imagine! thankfully given i've driven for many years with an excellent record, i was able to handle the car and get us to safety. it was extremely hard and so darn dangerous given i was on slippery roads the moment my power steering went out.. again no warning, it all happened immediately! *tr

I started my fusion was making a turn out of my drive way and the advance trac light came on the dash then in the message center it said service advance trac and service power steering now. i lost all power steering and car started pulling hard to the right. this occurred on thursday i took my car to the dealer the next monday. now costing me $1750 to replace the steering rack. *tr
I was driving at about 25-30 miles per hour and got a flat tire. i stopped the car and changed the tire, but once i started driving the caution alarm came on and started flashing that the "electric power assisted steering" malfunctioned. it became difficult to steer the car. i almost ran off the road into a drainage canal trying to make a turn. *tr
When starting the vehicle the 'service power steering now' warning was displayed followed by the 'service advancetrack' warning. power steering was not functional. *tr
I went around a left hand turn in the road and the car continued to veer left running me off the road where i glanced off a road sign before i was able to regain control of the car. i have noticed this problem in the past where it feels like i have blown out the driver's side front tire and the car pulls hard to the left. *tr
While driving through parking lot and turning into a spot power steering suddenly went out and service auto trak light came on. power steering was immediately lost and i almost struck a car. i was able to get stopped and maneuver the vehicle out of harms way. checked for power steering pump failure and found that it was electrical power assist. this sudden loss of power steering could have caused fatality had i been on the highway or on a busy street. this problem requires further investigation. *dt

I was driving, and the service advancetrac and service power steering now light came on. had it towed to dealership, and they want 1800 to replace rack and pinion. the dealership re-set the computer and now i am driving it until it comes on again, seeing as i don't have 1800 to spend. i have researched this, and it seems several people have had similar difficulties! time for a recall! please! *tr
Getting an error that the power steering has a failure and that advanctrack needs to be serviced. this happened when driving, thankfully i was able to pull over and get the vehicle towed. i have no control of the steering and it locks the steering wheel. worried about getting in an accident, i don't have the $2000 to fix it. please investigate this, it's all over the web. *tr

Shortly after starting the car the power steering service and advance trak service announcements came on dash. we drove for another 10-min and then stopped the car. when we restarted the car, we had no power steering at all. powering off the car and trying to restart has not restored any power steering capability and the advance trak and power steering service warning display constantly now. the car is undriveable. *tr
As i was going down the highway, my power steering failed. i was almost unable to turn into a parking lot to get the car off of the road. the messages on the dash read power steering fault and service advance trac. this seems to be a common problem with these type of cars. the replacement part is $1400.00 plus labor. something needs to be done to get this recalled. *tr
Was driving to work and suddenly "service power steering" and "service advancetrak" lights came on. stopped at gas station to inspect car. got back in car and "service power steering now" light was on after restart. power steering completely stopped working. was able to get it back home with a lot of effort. luckily, i was only a couple of miles from home. *tr
Drove 120+ miles on interstate, parked car for approximately 30 minutes. restarted and noticed warning light on dash, later determined it was "advancetrac" light. drove 2 miles at 45 to 50 mph, car pulled extremely hard to the right. stopped and cut off car to check tires, they were ok but noticed on dash readout was "service advancetrac and service power steering now." restarted car and had no power steering. extremely hard to drive but managed to get to ford dealership; they said that the steering gear needed replacing at a cost of $2,249.27. was out of town and couldn't leave it over the weekend so they reset fault code and i drove back home; power steering worked and no warning lights or readout on dash. *tr
Was driving in vehicle, low tire pressure light came on due to cold weather. before i had a chance to put air in the tire the service power steering now and advance track service notifications lit up and lost power steering. before that there were no signs of issues with either the advance track or power steering. inflated tires to correct psi and still have lost the advance track notification, but power steering still remains. *tr
I was driving home about 3 miles, what a warning flash in ny dashboard, autotrac service, power steering service soon. made it home, went back into my car 20 minutes later i had no power steering and message now reads service autotrac, power steering failure. took it to a dealer, they ran a computer scan reset it twice said it would cost $1600 to fix computer working at the moment could go out any time this problem needs to be fixed. i also had a low tire warning for two days before may be related to the problem. needs a recall . *tr
I was driving with my daughter home from doctors appointment when light came on about advance trac and then power steering needs service. the car was driving fine so i thought i would take care of it in the morning since it was going on 5p.m. we stopped at the dollar store one block from my house and when we started the car the power steering notice appeared again. i put the car in gear and noticed that the wheel would not turn easily. i managed to get the car home to my driveway and investigated this problem online. i'm not prepared to pay $$$ for this repair. ford needs to issue a recall on this and reimburse everyone who has paid out of pocket for this problem. i am now afraid to drive this car. *tr
I was in the parking lot of a kroger when i turned my car on. the "power steering assist fault" light came on and i didn't have any power steering. turned the car off. waited about 2 min and started the car again. the "power steering assist fault" light came back on and i still didn't have power steering. i pulled out of my parking spot and managed to drive it about 1/2 mile to my house. i parked the car in my garage over night. went to start it again on friday october 31st and the "power steering assist fault" came back on again. i still didn't have power steering. it is sitting in my garage now because i will not risk my life or my families life knowing this car has a power steering issue. can't afford to pay over $1,500.00 to have this issue fixed. *tr
On the way to work tcs light and power steering light came on and the dash said service power steering soon and service tcs system soon, then the next time i started my car it wait service tcs and power steering "now" and then there was no power steering at all just manual steering . *tr
I had just added air to my tires. i started my car and was pulling out of the station, my power steering shut down as i was pulling out. i shut the car off, restarted and the power steering still did not work. i brought it straight to mossy ford in missionbay, san diego, california. they told me there was no recall and it would cost $1700 to fix. *tr
Check engine light first came on 2 weeks ago and car started pulling hard to the right side, while shaking bad! today as i was driving to dealer doing 50mph my service power steering now and advance trac message came on. lost complete steering while on highway with babies in car! dealer will not even look at it without getting paid first. i guess they are waiting for us to get hurt in their vehicle before admitting to their fault! *tr
I was traveling down the interstate in the left lane when the car began to alarm and a warning message appeared that stated there was a power steering assist failure and for the vehicle to be serviced. the steering immediately became stiff and it was very difficult to steer the vehicle across three lanes and onto the shoulder. this is a safety hazard. i had two small children in the vehicle and do not feel safe driving this vehicle. after turning the vehicle off and restarting the power steering returns. this was the fourth incident, the first two incidences were while backing out of parking spots, third incident was while traveling down a two lane road at 35 mph. last incident was the scariest due to the rate of speed at which i was traveling. dealership says there are no trouble codes and they cannot service a vehicle without a code. *tr
Shame on you ford! hard working middle class family purchased a 2010 ford fusion for our son to use while he's in college. while driving the car on 1-95 the check engine light came on and also service power steering. the steering wheel locked and the car was impossible to drive luckily it was a week day so we were able to find a ford dealership. well they told us it was a evap pump $340, they reset the power steering sensor and thought they fixed it. few days later the same thing happened again. another mechanic told us it was uneven tire pressure that set the sensors off the car drove for an hour and the sensors went off again.there should be a recall too many people are having this problem. this is horrible ford so many family's rely on your cars for the safety of their family! i will never buy ford again! power steering warning message as the failure occurred again . took the car to another ford dealership and now i was told the front axle has to be replaced $2300. money pit!! this should not be happening to a 2010 car with 48000 miles on it. *tr
Pulled in the driveway at which time vehicle lost steering and gave a fault of "power steering assist fault". the had no power steering and rack and pinion had to be replaced. very unsafe! *tr
The car gave no warning and as i pulled out of gas station the power steering went out. i was unable to turn steering wall at all and had i been in traffic i would have been in accident. *tr
While driving on the interstate at about 70 miles per hour, my power steering went out. i could do nothing to restore it. that was about a year and a half ago. i took it to a ford dealer and they wanted $100 to look at it and $1800 to repair it. i am on a fixed income and cannot afford the cost of repairs. it went out at 51,000 miles. shortly after this hapened the transmission start leaking. i have to add 2 quarts per month. i have called ford several times and they have no recalls on this year. over 90% of the complaints on this web site have to do with 2010 ford fusion steering problems. my wife can longer drive this car and due to heart surgery there are times when i can not drive it. i finally contacted a lawyer and the state of west virginia attorney generals office. i have been a faithful form customer for many years and this is the biggest piece of junk it has ever been my displeasure to own. my next step is to quit making payment on it. i still owe $14,000 on this piece of scrap metal.
As i was driving down the road, a message appeared that said to service power steering and advancetrac. i managed to make it home, turned off the car, restarted it, the error message read service power steering now/service advancetrac now. we were traveling about 40mph when the message first appeared and i lost power steering. *tr

While driving car on interstate 85 near auburn alabama in a construction zone on un even pavement my car suddenly lost power steering. light came on and says service power steering now along with service advance trac. i was able to get it under control with out incident, but this poses a serious safety hazard. *tr
I have had same sterring issue as the 2011 fusions and was told the only recorse was to replace the whole rack. and the rack i put in had the same issue. the recall needs to be extended to every car and year that has that type of unit in it
I was trying to come home from a weekend trip with my friends. i turned the fusion on and the power steering and advancetrac were not working. managed to reset the battery and get home with power steering. went to ford and they charged me over $2000 to fix it after it stopped working about 2 weeks after the initial incident. *tr
Upon leaving a stop sign during a left hand turn, i experienced complete power steering failure. i was able to get off the car road where a restart of the engine returned the steering . a "power steering assist failure" and "check advance trac" illuminated on the dash. it happened twice more without the check advance trac light. a trouble code of " c200d" motor rotation angle sensor was set. ford remedies the problem by erasing the trouble code. the problem returned once more on october 6th, 2014. *tr

I had a message pop up that said "advancetrac power steering needs service soon" the night before without any issues but with the thought "i guess i need to call ford to get a service appointment. the following day i hopped in my car and to my surprise, the message now read "advancetrac power steering needs serviced now" (it was a saturday afternoon). the car was now undriveable. i am now still waiting for my car to be serviced because the cost to replace the rack and pinion (electronic power steering) will cost over $1800. ford will not cover it and i have complained to them several times and all they can tell me is that my warranty expired. should that had gone out on me friday night on my way home with my kids in the car, we would've been in big trouble. major safety issue and cannot understand why a company would not stand behind their product. *tr
While driving from an social event with my young children, they warning system in my fusion indicated that power steering system required service. as i was attempting to pull into the gas station, the power steering on my vehicle went out. the car became inoperable requiring a significant amount of strength to turn the vehicle. i looked under the hood to check for any visible signs of damage, only to realize they power steering is electric. i waited a few minutes and restarted the car, the light went out and i started my car to drive home. however maybe a few miles from my house, the steering went out again and the car was not able to be easily steered. the warning light now stated that power steering system required service now as well as secondary warning discussing the service of the advancetrac system requiring service too. when i went to ford they explained that there was an internal rack failure with parts that costs $1500 because if one part fails then the entire system fails. this is ridiculous and extremely dangerous to happen unexpectedly while driving with my children in the car. *tr
