Recently reported STEERING problems on 2010 Ford Fusion

Steering power assist failure when starting the car, putting the transmission into reverse and begin backing the car out, the steering power assist failure notification displays and the vehicles steering is disabled. although currently occuring only when backing up, i consider this car as unsafe as it seems it could just as easily occur when on the freeway

This is a common issue in 2010 fusions as you can find lots of similar experiences. while heading towards an exit on the highway going 70mph, the steering suddenly lost all power steering. two warnings appeared on the display saying "service advancetrac" and "power steer assist failure." everything returns to normal after restarting the car and it happens once again at random.

I'm on my way home from work and out of no where my steering wheel tightened up, then a warning noise went off and a message came on in the message screen. the message read 'service power steering now'. it was very difficult maneuvering through traffic with that issue, it was getting tighter, and by me being a female i'm blessed that i made it home. my car was driving perfectly, no ticking noise while turning or anything. i received no warning or anything, usually my car will warn me before the issue gets worse; for instance my oil life, or my tire pressure. i keep a checkup on my car and no issues was detected. i googled the situation and seen numerous individuals saying they had the same issue with the model of car that i possess. i was wondering if there was a recall that i got skipped over on?

Service power steering now is displayed. can't move my steering wheel.

Electronic power steering suddenly failed, error message displayed: "power steering assist fault; service advancetrac". failure occurred at low speed, shortly after startup.

Service power steering light came on as i was driving home. the next morning i turned on the car and it said service power steering now. have seen that i am one of the many people having this issue. should be recalled and fixed not just the 2011 which is just one year newer.

Power steering assist fault came on and i lost power steering. fortunately i was in my driveway and not on the interstate.

The power steering motor went and lock the steering wheel up and sent me in the other lane on city road and going straight wasn't turning without control no one was hurt but it's very unsafe and should be discussed with ford and have a recall to fix this so it doesn't happen to anyone else

Driving down the road and the service power steering came on and lost power steering in the car as well as the service traction control light came on.

Power steering assist malfunctioned and won't come back on.

My 2010 ford fusion sel has lost all power steering due to a failure in the electronic rack and pinion. i started my vehicle and received two warnings on the information screen in the cluster: power steering assist fault, and service advancetrac. i've done research and have been to multiple ford dealerships, and have been told there is nothing they can do other than charge me over two thousand dollars to have my vehicle fixed. yet, the 2011 and 2012 model years had a full recall of the part at no cost. this is unacceptable on ford's behalf and extremely unsafe due to the fact that with the power steering being out, the stability control is also disabled. yes, my vehicle is drive-able but it is definitely not safe and extremely difficult to maneuver at slower speeds. it's an accident and lawsuit waiting to happen, and i do not want to be the unfortunate one to go through such a thing. this needs to be recalled as soon as possible, before any lives are lost or preventable accidents occur.

The power steering completely went out while driving which almost caused me to wreck. at first, turning the car off and restarting it would fix the problem. now it is completely out and is almost impossible to safely drive. i understand the 2011 model ford fusion also had this issue, which was recalled. the 2010 ford fusions also need to be recalled. it is not safe to our children or anyone else to ride in the 2010 ford fusion when the power steering just randomly goes out.

Car was parked. turn the car on and no power steering. sudden failure. told to i have to get a new rack and pinion which is over $2000. the power steering came back on after the battery was unplugged over night. same parts as the recalled 2011 ford fusion. now i am scared to drive this car and the repairs are almost more than the car is worth. 88k miles on it

In december of 2018 while car was in motion; the power steering went out and we received the advanctrac / service power steering now message. it was diagnosed that the rack and pinion needed replaced so we replaced the rack and pinion. in oct; the power steering went out again while driving and after diagnosis; we had the rack and pinion changed again. in nov.; the power steering went out again while driving. this time the mechanic accidentally left his scanner on the car over the weekend and it drained the battery. when the mechanic charged the system and started the car; the message "service power steering now" was gone and the power steering was back. in dec. the power steering went out again while driving. we once again had the rack and pinion changed. now it is january 24th and the power steering is gone again. each time; the driver of this vehicle has been lucky because it has happened at low speeds. if this happened while going around a curve greater than 45 degrees; this driver would not have been able to control the car. now all we want to do is get rid of the car; unfortunately, we cannot keep the power steering from going out and i will not pass this issue on to someone else.

Power steering goes out for no reason. in motion. happened once while pulling into a parking spot. another time 15 - 20 mph. what if this happens at higher speeds? dealership wants more than $100 to look at it? more than $1400 to replace? there should be a recall. called ford motor company customer service to look for some recourse and i was read a standard document about it being the customers responsibility.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that the electronic power steering failed when the vehicle was reversed into the driveway. the vehicle was taken to chenoweth ford inc dealer, (1564 e pike st, clarksburg, wv 26301) and was diagnosed that the power steering rack needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repair due to the repair cost. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 153,701.

I have a 2010 ford fusion approx 110,000 miles on it. lately when i turn the key on i am receiving a "power steering assist fault" message. when this happens i can not turn the steering wheel at all. it is completely locked up. i can turn the key off and back on and the fault message is not there. it is becoming more frequent now. i have read on consumer reports that there has been lots of complaints on this matter. a few cases occurred while the vehicle was in motion on the highway. i have been advised this will be a very expensive repair, estimated at $1800. i have also read there was an investigation which resulted in a recall but my vin is not on that list. i have spoken with ford and was given a reference # cas-25441897-n4l7n3. i feel ford should be responsible for this issue on my vehicle as well.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, the power steering and the traction control failed causing the vehicle to crash into a ditch. the contact crashed into a pole coming to a stop and the air bags did not deploy. the contact stated that the maintenance service track and the service power steering now warning messages illuminated prior to the failure. the police were notified and a report was filed. no medical attention was required at the scene, however, the mother and the contact suffered from back pain after the crash. the vehicle was first towed to a tow yard and later to the contact's home. the vehicle was not destroyed; the vehicle had not been repaired or taken to a dealer. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed her that there was a recall on her vehicle nhtsa recall number: 19v001000 (air bags) .the failure mileage was 188,000.

I was driving down the highway and a advance trac service power steering now popped on my dashboard. i know there is a recall on 2011's. why is it not one on the 2010's knowing that many people have complained about this very expensive problem many times before. and also knowing that the throttle body could be the reason this is happening. my throttle body has also went and ford refused to fix the problem. we the consumers need answers before someone gets hurt from this problem.

Starting vehicle, power steering assist fault displayed and steering wheel would not turn. turned off ignition. waited a minute and restarted. condition disappeared. fearful of driving vehicle as i now read this fault has occurred to others while driving on highway at excelereated speeds. i can definitely see this could be a deadly situation if it occurs again while in motion. also see other years of fusions recalled for this fault. it is concerning this 2010 isn't on a recall for this fault.

The vehicle was stationary, when i went to turn it on it had a power steering assist fault. ended up having to take it into the dealership who are working on it right now. total cost of the work is about $1,800 and looking online it's obvious many others have had this issue. when i brought up the recall on 2010 ford fusions (recall 15s18) i was told that only applied to cars built in september of 2010 to another date, when mine was build in june - meaning it didn't qualify. it is my belief that this should be included in the recall by ford as many others have had the same issue.

Came out from shopping on 12-26-19 went to leave when all of a sudden the power steering assist fault light came on and it became extremely hard to steer. took to mechanic told me its the rack pinion which is going to cost over $2000 to fix . and then i see its a known ford problem. i do see that there is an open investigation with several complaints

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated while driving at approximately 40 mph, the power steering failed as the service power steering warning light illuminated. the vehicle was towed to a local dealer (riverside ford lincoln 2089 riverside dr, macon, ga 31204) where it was diagnosed that the tires needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired however after the repairs the failure reoccurred. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 165,000.

I keep getting power steering assist fault errors. it seems to me that this should have been fixed by a recall.

I was driving on hwy 23 when all of sudden the dash light came on saying default trac service soon. then my steering went out && it was like i had no power steering. about 2 weeks prior i had to have tyson rod ends put on inside & out after just having them replaced in april. my airbag light comes on saying passenger airbag. a noise like a rubbing/scraping noise every time i turn the steering wheel that i've had the car looked at several times.

Car was in detached very cold garage, started car. when putting in reverse noticed a warning on screen stating power steering failure. as i was backing out of garage i couldn't turn the steering wheel without a great deal of difficulty. after speaking with a friend decided to turn off the car and restart. when i did so, the power steering warning was gone and i could turn the steering wheel. i was able to drive the car 5 miles to a ford dealership worrying the entire way that it would go off again. i've since been informed by ford dealership that the entire power steering assembly needs to be replaced.

The power steering in my 2010 ford fusion has went out. this is a daily driver for my daughters commute to college. trying to turn it is almost impossible and even more so when she is in the crowded city. there was a recall up to 2011-2017 on this issue and the 2010 needs to be included!! this is very dangerous

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving approximately 35 mph, the power steering suddenly malfunctioned and the steering wheel became difficult to turn in either direction. the driver lost control of the steering and crashed into a utility pole. after the crash, the "service power steering" message was displayed. there were no injuries and a police report was not filed. the cause of the failure was not determined. the local dealer and manufacturer were not notified. the failure mileage was unknown.

Started car and while backing power assist fault warning indicator came on and lost power steering.restarted car an power steering was ok. now i don't want to drive not knowing when it will lockup again. the 2010 fusions should have been included in the recall.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph while making a left turn the power steering suddenly failed causing the driving to lose control of the steering which caused the wheel to make contact with the curb. after the failure the message "service power steering immediately" had displayed. the manufacturer(cas-25482608) was notified of the failure and the contact was advised to take the vehicle to the local dealer. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer don hinds ford(12610 ford dr. fishers in) who diagnosed that the power steering assembly had failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 125,000.

Power steering went out while driving on highway. now ford is telling me i need new tie rods and front control arm and if that doesnt work they said i need to replace rack and pinion. everything i read online tells me im that this has happened to a number of people with same vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving approximately 50 mph, the power steering suddenly malfunctioned. the contact stated that the steering wheel became very difficult to turn in either direction and the "service power steering" message was displayed. the cause of the failure was not determined. quality motor (2022 west main street, independent, ks) was notified of the failures. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 85,000.

When driving down the road my powersteering in my car stopped working. fortunately, i was able to pull off into a parking lot to avoid a collision.

This vehicle has epas. last night my wife drove the vehicle to the gas station and parked in front of a gas pump. someone asked her to move forward and when she started the car, she received the "power steering assist failure" message and the power steering refused to work. the vehicle was stationary. she started the car and shut it off numerous times until the system reset and she was able to drive the vehicle home. this car belongs to an 85 year old woman and if the power steering fails while she is driving the car she would not have the strength to control the steering.

I started my car in the apartment parking lot and attempted to turn when the power steering assist failure occurred. my car now has no power steering and is difficult to drive. i tried turning off my car and restarting it, but the problem persists.

My vehicle's power steering no longer works. the power steering stopped working when i started the engine on 12/4/19. the dashboord indicated "power steering assist fault". shortly after the power steering stopped working, the dashboard also indicated "service advancetrac". my vehicle has 96,000 odometer miles.

Lost of power steering, power steering steering assist, advance traction warning lights are on and staying on

Service power steering warning came on while i was driving the car. car became hard to steer. i was on a city street at an intersection turning left when the warning came on. also the traction control symbol light came on.

Power steering failure while in a parking lot of a busy shopping center pulling out of my space. had it towed to the dealership. after 199.00 diagnostic fee they tell me the power steering rack has to be completely replaced and it's going to cost me over $2,300.00!!!! this is a known issue and ford isn't doing anything to help people and yet the recalled the 2011 that uses the exact same power steering system. now i am forced to buy another car the same month i was to pay it off because i dont have the $2300.00 at christmas time to get a car fixed that is 9 years old. this is wrong. ford should be held liable!!!

Power steering intermittently fails when i am driving. i have no control over my car when this happens. passenger side airbag has issued a recall. i live in washington state and no dealer has the replacement parts i've been waiting for 2 years!!!

While driving my 2010 ford fusion the power steering shut down. it comes up with a power steering assist fault and traction control system. error message and loss of power steering. this is very unsafe and should be part of the ford recall. my teenage daughter is the main driver of this car and not able to now drive this car due to the dangerous loss of power steering.

Went to crank it one day after changing a tire on the front and the power steering quit working when i got back in it and cranked it up and hasn't worked since.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while pulling into a parking space, the power steering suddenly malfunctioned and the steering wheel became very difficult to turn in either direction. also, 'check power steering' was displayed. the cause of the failure was not determined. the manufacturer and jim o'neal ford (516 s. indiana ave, sellersburg, in) were notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 75,000. *dl

The steering rack is very loose and dangerous- there is a recall on the newer models with the same rack - this is way more dangerous than an air bag that"may" deploy - this is dangerous all the time .

Power assist warning, loses power steering

The power steering stopped working. for about 1.5 months when i would turn on the vehicle the dash would notify of a power steering fault and power steering would not work (steering wheel near impossible to move). however, if i turned the car off and back on the fault would go away and power steering would return to normal. unfortunately now the power steering is permanently not working and the car is no longer safe to drive. stability control warning also came on immediately after. extremely glad power steering did not go out while i was driving, it would have likely caused me to crash since steering is so hard to use without power steering. i did some research ford has a recall for this exact issue for the 2011 and 2012 fusions but not the 2010 but appears the 2010 is affected by the same defect.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while the contact's wife was driving 60-65 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to turn and the "advancetrac service power steering now" message was displayed. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified. the failure mileage was 128,005.

My front driver side tire was flat after work. i drove it down the street to the gas station to use the air pump. on my way there, i started getting the 'service power steering now' and a advantrac light came on as well. i still had some control so i pulled into the gas station and aired up the tire. however, the system never reset afterwards. at this point, i had no steering control whatsoever. i restarted it, disconnected the battery, checked fuses, etc. nothing restored the steering to the car, and now the car is unsafe to drive.

While driving my 2010 ford fusion the power steering stopped working and the car became difficult to maneuver. the information display said power steering assist fault. as i turned to get out of traffic a second message said service advancetrac.

I was driving my 2010 ford fushion in traffic when all of a sudden the steering went out and it showed power steering assist had went out i couldn't steer the car was lucky i was no badly hurt in this car i barely got it turn to get myself out of traffic the vechile was useless and i was going the speed limit at the time i could have gotten killed in this car have torn liament in my left hand from trying to steer car to safely get myself out of traffic and i'm a nurse so i need my hands both of them to perform my job
