I have a 2010 ford fusion se 4drv6 and was driving my vehicle down a highway and my low tire pressure light came on. unable to pull over immediately i drove to the nearest good year which offers free tire repair when out of no where the traction stability control kicked in on my car and my service screen said "service power steering now" i maintained control of the vehicle until i got to good year where they discovered that i had no power steering. *js
Complete loss of power steering while driving on a major highway at 55mph. an indicator message came on at that time, reading "service power steering now" as well as "service advance track now" and due to loss of steering and inability to turn the steering wheel, i was able to pull off the road to avoid an accident. diagnostics at ford certified repair center indicated a faulty sensor in the steering gear. this required installation of an entire new steering gear.

I was driving the morning of 12/23/15 and suddenly alert sounded and display indicated a fault with the power steering. it advised immediate service attention. i struggled but was able to get to a local ford dealer. after diagnosis they advised that i needed a full computer rack replacement. total cost was around $1900. car had only 55k miles and i never expected such a major expense. also, based on other accounts on the internet, issue seems to be systemic with this car.
Eleven weeks ago 10/22/15 while driving home from work in the morning on the expressway service road going 45mph a warning light came on on the panel reading, "service power steering now/service advancetrac. i continued to drive on home. park the car and went inside got my daughter ready for school, went back outside an hour later turned the car on warning light still there. went to pull off and the car steering wheel was so hard to move. i slowly drove my daughter to school a few blocks away on a normal neighborhood road going 30mph. after i dropped her off at school, i slowly drove it straight to my local mineke car care center around the corner.it is very unsafe but i have no other way to get her to and from school. unable to park the car straight because of the stiffen steering wheel. i must say you really have to put your muscles into steering the car. mineke cleared the codes and the car was ok for a while. seven weeks later the same thing happened again, driving straight on the same expressway service road going 45mph. brought it back to 12/9/15 mineke car care center and they referred me to the ford dealer because they said there were more codes and they probably needed to update the computer there were seven codes this time according to mineke. once at the ford dealer, they ran a diagnostic check ($146) and said i needed the pscm updated. once they did that the car was okay for a week and a half and the car was again taken back to the ford dealer on 12/31/15. this time i was told the "steering rack and pinion needs to be replaced. a job costing $1,862.42
While moving, the vehicle would sporadically loose vehicle power steering assist. this has happened 4 times in the last 2 months. once while parking the vehicle. once when driving 50 miles per hour on the highway, once when pulling into a parking space, and one more time when driving 30 mph down a highway. in all occurrences, cycling the key would "reset" the system and bring back assist.

Power steering went out {power steering failure} vehicle was stationary. was told by ford dealership it could be the steering gear at a cost of $1656.59.
I was moving my vehicle from outside drive into my garage. when steering assist message appeared. at this point power steering failed. was able to drive vehicle inside. i had vehicle towed to ford dealer were the steering power pack module was replaced.

I was driving my vehicle on 12/08/2015 when all of a sudden a light stating " power steering assist fault service advancetrac i called the ford dealer and they stated that i would have to take the vehicle to get inspected. the car is not drivable. i almost got into a huge wreck when this happened.
While driving at highway speed 65 mph or so got a power steering warning message on the dash. the car continued to drive fine until we got home. the next morning we went to leave the and immediately upon starting the vehicle i got a "service power steering now" message and had no power assist making the car almost impossible to drive safely. there has been a recall issued from ford for the 2011-2012 models but nothing for the 2010 with the exact same part number steering rack that is in all three years. the recall needs to be expanded to the 2010 models.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving approximately 30 mph, the power steering warning indicator illuminated and the steering wheel became extremely difficult to manuever. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 73,000.
Went to go somewhere. cranked the car. steering wheel would not turn. left stranded in a parking lot>
I was driving .making a turn and steering light came on, trac light came on then lost steering control very hard to steer to side of road. very lucky no accident.
I began to notice a sound when turning the steering wheel, whether it was stationary or moving . over the next few days, the steering became more stiff, as the sound increased. soon thereafter, the vehicle became difficult to steer. as i was returning home from work, recently, the steering locked up completely. as i was driving through a curve on a surface street at approximately 45 mph, the steering locked up and would not allow me to straighten the wheel. i immediately applied the brakes to keep from driving off the road or run into oncoming traffic. as i sat there, the steering slowly released in small amounts only. i was able to get the vehicle home, and only able to move the steering wheel sporadically. it is now completely locked up and i cannot move the vehicle. there is no reason this should be happening. i have read of hundreds of other people having this exact same problem with their 2010 ford fusions.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 15 mph and attempting to make a left turn, the steering wheel seized. an unknown warning light illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the power steering rack system needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000. the vin was not available.
Takata recall.
Power steering failed. the car was stationary. it seems there are recalls for other model years but not 2010. if recalling 2011 and 2012, i'm guessing a recall should include 2010 as well or any model year that is showing the same issues as a recall. dealership wants to charge $1,600.00 to repair.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving at approximately 10 mph after the front passenger side tire blew out, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. the service power steering now warning indicator illuminated. the contact merged to the shoulder of the road and replaced the tire, but the steering wheel failure persisted. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 168,000. the vin was unavailable.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 35 mph, the advanced tracking and the power steering warning lights illuminated continuously. in addition, an unknown tire was flat and the steering wheel seized. the contact mentioned that air was added to the tire. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was undetermined. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 125,000.
While in motion, at 40 mph, the front panel error messages, "service power steering now" & "service advancetrac" displayed. i fortunately avoided traffic and pulled into a parking lot off a major roadway in the city of suwanee, georgia. all power steering was lost. this seems to fall under the following preliminary evaluation #pe14030.
While driving the service power steering now light and the advance trac light came on. car got hard to steer. came to a stop and had no power steering. this is the second time this has happened to this car.
I was pulling out of a parking lot when i realized i wasn't able to turn my steering wheel. i saw the alert message "power steering assist fault." i pulled back into my parking spot, restarted my car, and was able to drive and use the steering wheel just fine. this has actually happened several times before when starting my car but i thought my car just needed to 'warm up.' this was the first time it didn't work after waiting a few moments. i researched other complaints online and i'm seeing that this issue has happened to other ford fusion 2010 owners while they were driving, and many of the cases resulted in accidents. also, issue with impaired lug nuts. some car shops have been unable to rotate my tires because they couldn't get them off.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while making a right turn, the steering wheel seized and caused the contact to crash into a concrete guard rail. there were no injuries and a police report was not filed. the vehicle was driven to the contact's residence. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 111,000.
While driving my car my steering wheeling locked and i could not control the car . when i took it to the shop the mechanic told me that my car does not have a standard hydraulic steering wheel system but instead it has an electronic one that will cost over $1000 to repair . i'm considering suing the ford motor company because i almost died in my car due to this faulty system they provided in my car . after doing research i found out that a lot of fords customers with a 2010 ford fusion are going through the same issue and ford is not willing to help . i will be in contact with a lawyer on monday. i live in buffalo ny while driving my car i was on a busy street intersection why my power steering went out .
The eps system malfunctions at speeds that could result in dangerous accidents. i was traveling at 40 mph and the steering locked up. message center stated clearly that the power steering needs service now. the steering was manual at this point, so i tried hard to pull it over to the side of the road and get out of the way of traffic. i then had it towed to my repair shop. this is going to cost $1000's of dollars! this is a major problem that could cause major accidents.
Well i could have seriously hurt someone else or my loved ones and my vehicle because without any warning once so ever my car stopped turning. meaning it was 20 times harder for me to control my vehicle. the warning that flashed in the instrument panel in the split second of me trying to fix whatever was going on was that i needed to get my power steering serviced immediately! so in return my car's steering abilities just abruptly stopped. luckily, i was at a gas station and not moving too fast, able to turn on my hazard lights and honk at everyone in passing not to come near me while my sister waved everyone away. the issues with the 2010 ford fusion is beyond ridiculous and quite frankly too dangerous! now the electronic power steering control module needs servicing. ford has issued a recall for the problem but only for 2011's and up. this car is highly uncontrollable and terrifying to operate w/o power steering. this is going to cost me towing to a dealership, rental car fees, a diagnostic test of $99 dollars, parts and labor and of course my time. all with the hanging carrot that i might be reimbursed if they do issue a recall down the line or at least that's what the ford relations customer service people told me. not only will this cost me upwards $2000 and more but the parts are on back order too. this is my only car and i have to still make car payments during this. what a headache!!! and for the life of me, i just can't understand why there's no recall for 2010 ford fusion models pertaining to this problem when there's significant research that states many 2010 ford drivers are experiencing this. ford built cars with electronic power steering which doesn't take fluid so if there's an electronic software issue that persists with one make and model give everyone the courtesy of being able to have their cars updated/fixed.
On november 7th 2015 my service advancetrac light illuminated and check power steering now warning popped up on my dash at this time i lost all power steering to the car! i disconnected the battery and restarted my car and still no power steering. i was fortunate enough that when the light and warning came up i was in my driveway and thats were i lost steering. this is my only car this gotta get fixed
On friday november 6th 2015 after doing some appointments and errands, i started my car in the parking lot and a warning lit up "power steering assist fault" and the car would not steer. when i put it in drive another warning came on "advance trac failure" with a picture of a car swerving. i drove it to my mechanic steering with great difficulty and care about three blocks away. he told me i needed a new drive train but the ford dealer said the part was on national back order, they could not say how long it would take to get. my car is 5 years old with 136,000 miles. i have never had any other issues with this vehicle and this happened very suddenly for the first time. my car is well maintained and serviced regularly. ford motor co and two dealers say this is not under warranty because of the mileage and the part alone cost $1649.00. they all said they have never heard of this problem happening before now but their are many complaints of this problem that have been reported to nhtsa. is this being investigated for possible recall?
Power steering failed, and fixed itself after resetting the codes. a week or so ago i was driving 65 mph when the power steering failed again causing me to go off of the road! thankfully i had my seatbelt on and i was not injured and their was no damage to my vehicle. ford has only issued a recall for 2011 and newer models which is ridiculous because from what i have read online more people are having issues with the 2010 models. was told it could be close to 3,000 to fix the issue! and that it isn't guaranteed that it won't happen again! beyond upset and frustrated! i don't have the money to fix the car, but can't afford not getting it fixed either! for mow oh age been driving around with no power steering because i need to go to work and go to school!
I was driving the car and the advanced trac light came on. service power steering now. i was in the car with my 9 year old son and i am 5 months pregnant.this is very dangerous and need to be fixed this is my only transportation.
The electronic power steering on this vehicle is defective. i've only had this vechile for about a year and a half and heve had several major issues with it. the power steering problem has been the biggest issue. i was originally told the the part was on recall, then after jumping through several hoops i ended up having to pay $1314.17 to have it fixed myself. less than 24 hours after picking the car up from the dealership the same problems are occurring, the electronic power steering completely went out again while driving on the highway. this part needs to be recalled on all vehicles, it is very dangerous to be driving and completely loose control of your vehicle on the highway. thankfully, i was able to gain control of the car this time, but it could have been much worst. i have and will continue to file complaints against ford until this defective part until something is done.
As i was driving the power steering stopped workin. and couldnt turn the wheel. while i had my children in the car. also the gas tank whenever i get gas the car shakes & when i turn the car on after the gas is done, the car stalls & have to restart it twice before it stays on
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving approximately 15 mph, the steering wheel seized without warning. the vehicle was driven to the contact's residence. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown. updated 05/03/2016*lj the consumer stated the part that failed was the same part that was on recall. the consumer requested to be included in the recall. updated 11/17/17*js
Pulled vehicle into my driveway sunday afternoon after normal operation and turned it off. after 5 minutes went to move vehicle. turned key to start and power steering assist fault message appeared. steering wheel was very hard to turn so vehicle wasn't moved. tried to move again 15 minutes later but still no power steering. vehicle stayed in driveway overnight. monday morning, vehicle was started and steering was back to normal. after 3 weeks, problem has not happened again. contacted a ford dealer and 2 private shops, all tell me there is no code retained for this issue and it would have to be diagnosed with the problem actually happening. also contacted ford customer service. the rep said she would record my info but could not provide technical assistance.
Shortly after beginning my drive, my car alerted me to "service advancetrac soon" and "service power steering soon". the wheel turned as it did normally so i didn't think i had anything to worry about. i got to a stoplight a little further down the road and thought perhaps a reset would clear the error. i put my car in park, and shut off the engine. when i started it up again, i got a much more urgent sounding ding and my screen said "service power steering now". it was at that point that i had no power steering in the car. it was so difficult to steer that i was worried i might break something, feeling like at any moment the steering wheel was going to snap. upon reading the complaints and recalls of other ford fusions, i am shocked that the 2010 model isn't included in the recall. the only fix for this issue according to ford is to replace the rack and pinion assembly. my suspision is that the issue is with a sensor that became faulty, and the system turned off power steering to protect itself. however i have heard that because the sensor does not have a part number, it cannot be sold separately from the rack and pinion assembly. i understand components break and wear out, especially in cars, but i think it's insane to have to replace a $1300 part when a $50 component fails.
While my husband was driving my car, he lost all power steering ability and the advance trac and service power steering light came on. it is requiring extra ability to turn vehicle. i do not understand why this model is not included in the recall of 15v340000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver and the power steering failed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the power steering rack and pinion needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,000.
I have had the power steering assist fault light come on 4 times in the passed year and a half. when i went to ford they said they could not help me unless the light was on. so finally the light stays on and suddenly it is not covered by a warranty and the repair is close to $2000, how convenient is that. you know they knew that evidently the system would fail. i couldn't even turn the wheel and when i called them to explain that they told me to drive safely. this is a problem that needs to be recalled.if it was recalled for other years why not 2010?
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving 60 mph, the power steering failed and the vehicle jerked. the vehicle was restarted. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the electronic steering gear assembly needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 130,000.
I was driving home with my 12 year old son down the post road in orange ct and all of a sudden, the malfuction indicator light for traction control illuminates and then i get a message to service power steering now. without warning,in an instant, i lost the ability to steer my car smoothly and safely as the steering wheel became extremely tight. i drove about a mile until i could pull my car over safely and thought that it was just something as simple as resetting my car so i turned the car off and restarted it, but by this time, the steering wheel was even tighter than before and i could barely turn the wheel. i prayed and did my best to maneuver my car so that i wouldn't hit anybody else, but it was hard to even drive in a straight line pattern. the turns i had to make to drive to my home were extremely wide and unsafe. i'm upset with this as i've done my home work and it looks like there was an investigation regarding this scenario but not an actual recall. ford acknowledges a safety issue, but apperently does nothing until something happens. i live in a state that is in a rainy season and soon winter if this had of happen with snow on the ground...this would have been bad....very bad.
Power steering was suddenly lost first time in october of 2015 almost causing me to run into a curb. second time in november of 2015 fiance was driving and the power steering was suddenly lost power steering light came on only giving us about a five minute warning while he was driving and almost ran into another vehicle. a ford dealership wanted to charge me over $2,000 to replace entire electronic gear which was not the problem at all. i took it to another mechanic and he said it was the rack and pinion that has gone bad and is going to cost over $1,000 to get a new rack and pinion. he also said that the loose rack and pinion was causing the powering steering hose to leak.
Power steering is defaulted while driving. it became so hard to turn. thanks god there is no crash. it happened 3 days ago in winston salem nc and i now parked the vehicle in my driveway thinking about where to find money to fix it
As i was backing out of a parking space, a warning sign popped up on my dash requesting that i service power steering immediately. it was then that my steering wheel locked up and i was unable to turn, almost hitting cars in the rows behind me. thank god that i have backup sensors because it could have been nasty! anyways, it was difficult for me to steer throughout the parking lot and for me to get to where i needed to go....updated 12/10/15 *bf
On several occasions, i was driving my 2010 ford fusion and lost the power steering for no apparent reason. i lost the power steering at least three times as i was backing out of my garage. the most recent time i lost my power steering, i was driving down a steep hill with a curve and had to use all my strength to turn the steering wheel, so that i would not drive off the road into the ditch. this was an extremely scary experience. i am upset that the ntsb has not forced ford to recall all 2010 fusions for this common problem of losing the power steering. the complaints about the power steering problems in ford fusions are all over the internet. also, there was a class action lawsuit brought against ford for this power steering problem in the 2010-2014 ford fusions in san francisco, ca. why hasn't the ntsb done more about this dangerous problem?

There is a problem with my power steering. it failed on me when parallel parking. an error referring to advancetrac appeared on the dash. i had to turn my car off in order to reset it, but i fear it may happen when driving on a freeway.
