We have classified the 1266 complaints from 2010 Ford Fusion about STEERING into the following categories.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that the steering wheel seized with the power steering warning light illuminating. the vehicle was turned off and restarted but the failure persisted. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer or independent mechanic for diagnosis or repairs. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact of no recalls related to the failure. the contact stated that the manufacturer acknowledged that other vehicle owners had filed complaints in regards to the steering wheel failure. the failure mileage was 90,000.
While driving down the interstate, i experienced a sudden loss of power steering followed by the power steering/advance trac failure light appearing on the dash. i carefully pulled over and had my car towed to the service department. ford determined i needed to replace the pscm r&r steering gear at a cost of $1919.63
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving 20 mph, the steering wheel seized and "power steering failure assist" was displayed across the message board. the contact restarted the vehicle to correct the failure. after restarting the vehicle, "service vehicle" was displayed across the message board. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the computer needed to be reset. the vehicle was repaired. the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 59,000. the vin was unavailable.
The power steering failed, fortunately while the vehicle was still in the driveway. the vehicle is used for daily commuting at highway speeds, so it was very lucky that it failed when the potential damage was minimized. i had to replace the steering gear assembly at a cost of $1872.69, invoice enclosed.
The power steering column went out when attempting to pull out of driveway. when i started the car and put the car into reverse i immediately had an alert on the dash that stated "power steering assist failed" then flashed to "service autotrac". those warnings kept flashing and i had no power steering while attempting to drive my car 4 miles to the dealership for a diagnostic test. i was informed the power steering was non-repairable and must be replaced. the repair cost me approximately $2000 and despite being a single mother i did not have my car for three days.
Started the car this morning and a message popped up saying power steering assist fault tried to move the car but could not move the wheels. the car can only go straight. so i turned the car off and back on and it seemed to fix. glad i was not driving the car.
I was pulling out of the bank drive thru and power steering quit working at all while i was turning onto the street.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving approximately 65 mph, the tire pressure warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle shifted to the left and jerked. the warning advance service track illuminated to "service power steering now". in addition, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence and later to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the electrical power steering failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 130,477.
The power steering module is broken on my vehicle. this has been an issue now for a few years. there is and has been an open recall for the same problem for 2011 and newer vehicle. this is a problem with my year make and model of my vehicle and apparently many others. this is a dangerous problem could cause accidents even death. if this is not fixed on 2010 vehicles as well. i will be taking matters to a lawyer. this is unsafe. i was driving my vehicle when it went out and almost crashed my car
While driving on a state highway in sc (speed limit was 55), the low tire pressure light came on followed by "service power steering now" and service advancetrack. let me note the car was being driven by my 21 year old daughter. the power steering stopped working. my daughter had to drive/wrestle the car without power steering. after getting the tire pressure issued fixed, i took the car to a ford dealership to have the warnings diagnosed. the car produced code p07ae-09. according to a nhtsa investigation report (pe14030) this has been a problem on 2010 fusions. the ford dealer states the car's vin does not provide for a repair as directed in the nhtsa investigation report and wants $1,870 to correct the problem. they are stating it needs a new steering system which is what is described in the nhtsa investigation report.
I had just arrived at my destination and the car had displayed a "service power steering now." i left and went in the store; when i came back out and turned on the car the wheel wouldn't budge. i had it towed to the dealership today to see what is wrong with the power steering.
Power steering failed and power steering assist fault displayed on dash. restarted car and power steering worked ok. i took the car to the dealer on 07/28/09 to have it checked out and they could not duplicate the problem. they told me that there was a recall for this problem on later models but not on the 2010. the same thing happened yesterday 10.07/16. i am concerned that this could happen at high speed and cause a major accident.
The orange warning light for stability control system came on once perhaps 6 weeks ago, but in a short period of time went off, while i was on the freeway. nothing else until 10 days ago when steering locked as i turned left to leave a parallel parking place--along with an "advancetrac service needed" message on dash. ford service did analysis, found "the electronic steering gear is bad and estimate to repair $1900." part #61358; codes they retrieved were u3000-49 and u3000-72. car is serviced regularly and very recently had its 60k servicing. i can't afford the $1900 so wanted to get estimates from other automotive service providers.to see if i could duplicate what had happened, i did a test drive around my block this morning and parallel parked again where i would need to turn left again after turning engine off and restarting. a "power assist fault" message came on and again there were several seconds when the steering was not under my control. this appears to be a too-common problem.
Power steering assist fails. power steering assist failure flashes on the display and the vehicle becomes nearly impossible to steer. i was backing out of my driveway when the alarm chimed, power steering assist failure flashed on the dash display, and the car was suddenly without steering. i was able to pull back into the driveway without an accident but if this had happened on the highway going to work this would have been a catastrophe. after checking for loose wires or other obvious defect under the hood, i decided to restart the car. when it started there was no problem. i decided not to drive it that day ( i also own a 2007 f-150) and took our other ford vehicle. today when i went out to check it again the problem has returned and i can no longer drive it.
I continuously have power steering failure and have to steer manually. i started the car got a low tire pressure notice and went to get air. on the way to the air pump, i got a service power steering message. i put air in the tire. when i got back into the vehicle, the steering wheel wouldn't turn. i changed the tire and still no power steering. i've seen numerous complaints about it and the cost being around $1500. ford's dealership is the only place in my area that can fix it.
Came out to my car to go out and when i turned it on the dashboard started beeping and an error message came up "service power steering now". the power steering went out and the wheel is stiff now. last year, i paid 1800 to replace the rack and pinion and now this is happening. i took it to the ford dealer and they want 2000 to fix this problem.
After turning the ignition on power steering failed to work. i turned ignition off and on again and power steering worked. faulty power steering rack.
I just had to pay 1900. to have my 2010 ford fusion power steering fault assist repaired, although it appears the 2011-2012 models are included in the recall. the power steering goes out, and the car is then not able to be driven. if this happens when you are driving you lose complete control of the car. i have owned and driven fords for over 15 years (taurus and fusion) that i bought brand new, and i maintain my garage kept cars. my fusion has 73,000 miles so the power steering should not go out on my car at no fault of my own. this power steering fault should be covered under a recall before more accidents and occurrences happen endangering peoples safety. i drive with little children in my car regularly and i am thankful i was alone when my steering went out. please consider including this power steering fault assist problem in 2010 ford fusions to be a recall. it is dangerous and very costly to be fixed as i have learned. thanks for your consideration.
I have a customer with a 2010 fusion that has a failed steering rack, not included in recall since it is not between 2011 and 2016.customer narrowly missed ramming into my shop because was unable to steer.we called dealer and fomoco and was told they could not do anything even though this is a serious safety issue.there is currently a class action lawsuit involving these cars and people have been hurt.the repair is 1600 dollars at my shop and over 2000 dollars at the dealership. i think i'm going to go the local news media and see if they can help-do you have any recourse? my name is [xxx] -owner of l&s automotive inc. my phone number is [xxx].the customers name is [xxx] and her phone is [xxx].please see if you can investigate this case, thank you information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Was driving car and power steering just quit working this is very dangerous!!!!. had to have car towed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while operating the vehicle, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. in addition, the service power steering warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, but the cause of the failure was undetermined. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 72,669. the vin was not provided.
Twice now a power stearing assist fault has appeared on the dash. when this happens, the vehicle becomes un-steerable. this is very dangerous, and has many complaints filed already. this happens in motion, under normal driving conditions.
Was driving and power steering just quit and it was very scary as i was just turning into a parking lot and it just stopped working all together. luckily i was able to keep from having a serious accident or kill someone. this is a serious problem and could get people killed and really needs to be fixed and eliminated in all cars. i did see where ford had a recall on some of the fusions but not mine because it was manufactured in a different month. imagine that! had to take it to the ford dealership and pay nearly $2000 to get it fixed. i am sure glad that it was me driving it when this occurred instead of one of my children that could have been killed or injured.
Power steering recall - receiving "power steering assist fault". when in park and putting vehcile into drive, we're getting the fault message. it is my understanding there is the same recall for 2011 ford fusions. we have 2010 ford fusion. we are now down one vehicle as we were told it will be $2,500 to repair.
The electronic power steering fails, requiring the vehicle to be shut off in order to reset it. the vehicle was stationary.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while turning the vehicle, the steering wheel seized. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the power steering assist motor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 85,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the steering wheel seized and the steering wheel failed warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer robinson ford (1777 imperial ave, calexico, ca 92231. 760-357-3141) who diagnosed the vehicle and stated that the steering had failed and the vehicle was repaired, but the contact stated that the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 125,000.
Power steering failed suddenly while the vehicle was in motion and turning on a city street. it almost led to an accident.
Power steering on the car went out all of a sudden and the wheel could not be turned at all. a warning saying service advancetrac came on. this almost caused an accident!
Two years later i was stopped at a 3 way stop making a left hand turn at a middle school football field. as i was making my turn my car would not make the turn. my car went straight and luckily there was no one there. the ground was level or my car would have been damaged. i had no steering or brakes and i thought my car had went dead. when i tried to restart the car i realized my car was running and bells were chiming along with advance trac power steering failure. i had no warning whatsoever. this was in april 2015. almost $2000.00 dollars to repair. guess what happens 1 year later while i am driving down the road. there are state prisoners slowing traffic when my power steering goes out again with no warning whatsoever. when i called the dealership that did the repair i was told there was a warrnaty on parts but i would have to pay labor. after contacting ford i was told that parts and labor were both covered. i will take it to another dealership to get the repair. when i think about driving cross country with our 3 grandchildren and think about this happening on the curvy mountain roads it terrifies me. i am disgusted with ford. they should have a recall on this year model car just like they did the other years. i am tired of having this car in the shop with all the major repairs. i do have repair records they are not with me at the moment.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving 20 mph and making a left turn, the steering wheel completely seized. as a result, the contact lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a concrete edge. the passenger side door air bags deployed. a police report was not filed and there were no injuries. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 98,873.
Luckily i was in a parking lot preparing to leave instead of on the road like some of the people i've read about. i put the car in reverse and couldn't turn the wheel without great effort. i had to strain to get the car home. why isn't this part of the recall? it's absolutely ridiculous that ford can sell cars they know are defective. i can in no way afford the $1000+ it'll cost to fix a mistake they already knew was there. ford is horrific. is there any wonder why people buy imports?
Power steering assist fault appeared on dash and then car lost power steering.
The low tire pressure light came on and the my service power steering light came on when i was driving down a road went to make a turn and it became hard to turn my vehicle......took it to the ford garage and they said it gave them like 4 or 5 codes
Service light went on for the steering wheel while i was driving on the road lost all steering power. luckily i was in the middle of driving in my drive way!
The power steering on my 2010 ford fusion went out while my husband was driving. my husband was on his way home from work when the power steering completely stopped working causing him to almost crash into a car when he was attemping to turn.
This first happened to me on june 1, 2016. my 2010 ford fusion loses power once in a while when driving. a wrench light appears on the dash board and the car starts to slow down, accelerator does not work and sometimes the car starts to shake. you will have to pull over, turn the car off for a few minutes and then turn it off in order to drive it until the light comes back on again. it is very dangerous to drive it in the highway and specially when speed limit its 50 and trucks or other cars are coming at a high speed behind you because you do not know when this is going to happen to you again. i have this problem for a few weeks. i took my car for a recall for something else on june 24, 2016 and i mentioned to them about this issue and they said everything was fine. but i'm sure it will not be fine if i get into a car accident after complaining about this issue. the dealer will ask if the light its on in order for them to check it. but i have mention that the light goes on and as soon as you lose power and turn the car off and on it disappears.
The power steering of this vehicle has been out for over a year. there is a recall for this same power steering fault on 2011 ford fusion and newer. this needs to be added to the 2010 models as well. my power steering module needs to be completely replaced the power steering does not work and makes the car inoperable. this went out on me while driving my vehicle.
Complete power steering failure same as described with 2011 and later models.
The power steering had a small odd side to side wobble in it that felt similar to an out of balance tire. then while driving on a city street the power steering quit working while i was driving. the steering became incredibly heavy and difficult to control. the advance track warning flashed on the console. the dealership told me the entire power steering rack had to be replaced. the dealership reset the fault and the power steering returned, but the wobble was worse and the power steering failed again while driving on the highway with no warning. the following model year has the same part and is part of a recall for the described problem.
Power steering fault appeared on dashboard while driving and steering became hard to control. turned ignition switch off and restarted power steering was working again. carried car in for service i was told everything was normal. now it's happened 4 or 5 times . being that it's out of warranty now its out again .
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving 5 mph, the electric power steering malfunctioned and the steering wheel seized without warning. the contact had to apply a significant amount of pressure to the steering wheel in order to properly steer the vehicle. the contact depressed the brake pedal and the steering returned to normal. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 124,000.
On may14th the check steering warning message came on. the following day the power assist on the steering was not working. i was able to drive the car slowly to the dealer. they had to replace the steering gear. there was 112, 000 miles on the car when the failure occurred.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving 40 mph, the steering wheel seized and the tire pressure warning light illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 149,000.
Daughters car had power steering failure. came home from work, changed and was leaving, started car and check power steering assist fault came on and no power steering. after checking web sites, nhtsa and seeing 100s of complaints, called ford, no help, please have dealer fix and pay him if its added to the recall, we will reimburse you! need you to have dealer fix, so its added to our warranty data!.. news flash, i called you as 100s of others add it to your data. 9k on my super duty last month, know 1500-2000, no more fords for me buy buy ford> hello chevy
The power steering suddenly went out without warning with message to service power steering now on dashboard making car impossible to steer.i was driving through a residential street when it happened. the car has the electronic power assisted steering.
The power steering failed many times rendering my car undeliverable. after researching, i found that there is a pending class action (philips v. ford motor co.) involving the same issue and the 2010 - 2014 model year. the car is out of warranty; however, it was discovered that ford knew of the defect prior to the 2010 model year going into production. the repairs have coat me approx. $1,600 and the car has been in and out of the repair shop for the same issue. i asked ford to reimburse me for the repairs. they denies my claim. please assist me in obtaining reimbursement for this known defect.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that the steering wheel failed and the power steering assist failed to engage, which made the steering wheel difficult to turn. the dealer was unable to perform a diagnostic because the failure was intermittent. the steering wheel normally returned to normal on its own after a few minutes. there was no warning indicator illuminated when the failure occurred. the vin was not available. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 110,000.
While driving the vehicle on a paved county road, the power steering stopped working, making it extremely difficult to steer which resulted in the front wheel impacting a concrete curb and causing the tire to blow out and damage to the wheel.
As i pulled out of a gas station (turning right), the 'service advance trac and power steering' warning came on. i was able to make it home, with extreme difficulty. unable to turn the wheel, i did almost hit another vehicle as it went out while driving. the next morning, steering was completely gone, i couldn't even move it an inch, and had to be towed to a mechanic. after two days of diagnostics and trying to figure out what was going on, the mechanic was not able to figure out what was wrong and simply reset the computer. he said it now is a matter of waiting to see if that happens again, and if it does, he would suggest a new rack and pinion.
