Electronic power steering assist complete failure around 100k miles. power steering was intermittent for about a year. would start the car and it would not work, it would also indicate power steering assist faults on the dash. turn the car off and back on and it would be fine. one day while driving the power steering completely failed and nearly resulted in an accident as i was in a turn. it has not worked since.
Power steering assist fault. nhtsa already has an open investigation, i'm just another person experiencing this problem with my 2010 ford fusion, which has not been issued a recall by ford. extreme difficult turning the car, especially at low speeds.
I am just wondering what the status is of the steering lockup with the 2010 ford fusions. my son has this car and the steering is completely locked up. luckily he was not driving it. it was just after starting it this morning. he called ford and they told him that his vin was not under the recall. i am having trouble understanding why not when it falls in the bad year range and clearly has the same issue. i feel that ford should cover this one. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that there was a sudden failure with the eps and that the steering wheel failed to turn in either direction. the vehicle was inspected by five star ford (900 russell pkwy, warner robins, ga 31088, (478) 922-9131), but was not diagnosed to determine the specific cause of the failure. the manufacturer indicated that the vehicle was excluded from an eps recall, so the contact was uncertain if the vehicle would be repaired. the failure mileage was not available.
Power steering failure while driving. vehicle reports error code, and all power steering is lost without warning. dealer's service department says it is a manufacturing defect but is not covered under current recall. *tr
While driving on a city street, the power steering, service now light came on and it became extremely hard to turn the wheel. *tr

Left my sisters home on christmas eve and within .25 mile i received a warning light indicating a steering issue. within minutes my steering wheel tightened up so tight that my step son had to grab the wheel to help me turn into a gas station. it was extremely frightful because the road we were on was very curvy and it was at night! after few tries we attempted to drive the vehicle home. my son luckily who is a very strong and big 19yr old drove us home while stating the steering felt very tight that he admitted it required great strength to keep control of the car. i have had this car since 2010 and this model has had a full throttle bottle recall (twice) a gas tank line recall, air bag recall (which i'm still waiting for) and the a/c had to be replaced. this car is and has been the worst model of all fusions. i took this car to the ford dealership who then examined the car and determined it was the steering gear that has went out on my car and it will be $1795 to replace!! that's half the price of what this car is even worth not to mention i had already paid $1200 to get the a/c fixed over the summer. i searched online to see if others had the same gear issue and behold google shows a class action lawsuit in california about it and over 500 recall complaints yet ford has not recalled it! seriously? i feel considering the past recalls on this model that this particular issue is a huge safety concern. if my step son had not been with me to assist turning the wheel, i would have no doubt wrecked on this curvy road christmas weekend. which sadly stranded us because of how ford carelessly threw this model of the fushion out with so many recalls. they should know with so many recalls they should realize this car was poorly built and shouldn't hold the consumers lives and money responsible. this is the first time i've owned a ford :(
The power steering assist fault, that is currently on recall for 2011 and up, is the same exact thing that is happening to my 2010. i need the 2010 to be reevaluated and added to that recall. i did nothing to cause the power steering to go out, this is 100% on ford. they need to fix the issue. i have no power steering and if i were to ever wreck due to this issue, i will involve lawyers and get the ford name involved. 2010 needs to be added to the recall!!!!!! i am not the only 2010 with this same issue. if its happening to thousands of 2010's, it is a ford recall issue. not car owner issue. i need this problem fixed now.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving approximately 45 mph, the steering wheel seized intermittently and the power steering warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering gear had to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 127,600.
While driving in town all the sudden my service advancetrac and power steering warning lights come on. the power steering was still working i was on the way out of town so i stopped shut my car down and restarted and got the error service advancetrac and service power steering now warning lights and lost power steering. lucky at this time i was driving and not either of my teenage sons. not sure why these go out unexpectedly with no warning but seeing that there are literally thousands of complaints with this happening yet the recall starts in 2011 to fix this? *tr
I was driving and all of the sudden the power steering went out. *tr
While driving i received a message on my dash stating that there was a power steering failure. since that message i've had no power steering. since i've continued driving it, after being assured that was okay to do, my vehicle has begun making a grinding noise. additionally when i'm correcting the steering right and need to center or begin to correct left the vehicle now jerks in that direction when correcting the positioning. does not feel safe to drive and my back is sore, and i'm over this vehicle. if they recalled the 2011 that uses the same steering system as the 2010, why the debate? this should have been recalled years ago. i would never feel secure purchasing a ford after this experience.
Power steering went out on my way home on december 20 2016. took it to the dealer on january 4 2017 and was told the steering rack had to be replaced. seen where ford had a problem with the steering failing on this model. there were some recalls on some but not on mine.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact, a mechanic, stated that there was a sudden loss of power steering, the warning lights flashed to service the eps, and the stability traction control and various warning indicators flashed. the contact had to coast the vehicle over to the side of the road and restart it, but the failure continued. the vehicle was diagnosed by a dealer who indicated that the rack and pinion needed to replaced. the contact inspected the vehicle and noticed a leak from the air conditioner drain on top of the steering gear. it was diagnosed that the steering wheel angle sensor in the steering column needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). the contact indicated that the dealer's mechanical diagnosis was a sufficient solution to repair the vehicle. the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 89,000.
Power steering has gone out. the tire pressure light has come on and been on. luckily it has happened at home so the car was not moving. however to fix this known issue the cost is approximately 1500. i have been making payments on this vehicle and have not been able to drive it due to the cost to fix it. i am aware that this is a known issue not only on my car but fusions in general.
I was driving and the power steering went out. the service power steering came on and service advancetrac came on. *tr
Power steering not working. took the vehicle to a mechanic who replaced the right front knee and electric power steering rack and reset fault codes for steering angle and abs. power steering worked for approximately 40 miles. drove to supermarket. came out of market to find power steering not working (stationary). took directly to ford dealer. ford dealer updated software, performed steering angle reset, and cleared all codes after reprogramming. power steering worked for approximately 50 miles. leaving work i found the power steering not working again (stationary). *tr
Total loss of steering while pulling out of driveway. warnings on dash for service steering now and service advancetrac.
My 2010 ford fusion has come up with a "power steering assist fault" and "service advancetrac" messages on the dash board. this causes the steering in the vehicle to be stiff and very dificult to make a turn on the road. i managed to make it home driving at a reduced speed and by avoiding making turns when possible to prevent an accident.
While driving at posted speed, power steering assistance unexpected failed. driver error notice "service power steering now" displayed immediately, followed soon by "service advancetrac." just barely kept the vehicle on the road, avoiding a rather large ditch. local mechanic diag revealed the following relevant diag codes: * c1277 (invalid or missing data for steering wheel angle sensor) * c1963 (stability control inhibit warning). *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving 30 mph and making a right turn, the power steering failed. the contact stated that the service advanced trac warning indicator illuminated. the contact stated that the steering wheel became difficult to operate. it was diagnosed that the electronic power steering control module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 139,000.
Power steering suddenly went out turning in parking lot.got it to the shop he finally got to work on it and everything worked fine can't fix what's not broke. picked it up and before my wife got home suddenly went out again coming down a city street, no warning very dangerous 2011-12 was recalled for same reason need to include 2010.
When i started my car the low tire pressure light came on, but everything seemed to be working fine. i drove a few blocks on city streets with no problem, and then the steering wheel suddenly became tight and difficult to move and the advance trac light and power steering light came on. able pull over carefully, but not safe to continue driving. diagnosed as power steering failure - had to replace rack and pinion.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced a loss of power steering while driving 45 mph. the failure occurred without warning. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 180,000.
On december 9, 2016 at approximately 1930, i was backing my 2010 ford fusion out of my driveway when a warning light came on immediately followed by "service advanctrac" and "service power steering". at this time power steering was still functioning properly. by the time i made it to the end of my block - approximately 500 feet, the instrument panel dispalyed "service power steering now". it was at this point, that the power steering stopped working entirely. i narrowly missed a vehicle entering the intersection and ended up partly in my neighbor's yard. i drove the car back to my house. i then drove the car to zeck ford in leavenworth, kansas for servicing the next day. the car is still at the service center.
While driving the vehicle straight down a city street at approximately 30 mph, the power steering suddenly went out and were two warning messages "service powering now" and "service advancetrac". with difficulty, the car was pulled into a parking area a couple hundred feet down the road. the ford mechanic that diagnosed the issue advised us the electronic steering gear had gone out and it would be about $1850 to replace it. we were lucky this happened at relatively low speed while driving straight. if it had happened near other vehicles while turning it may have caused an accident. *tr
I started my car and received an alert tone, followed by a warning message on my dashboard. it stated power steering assist fault. i was fortunately, not driving at the time, but was stationary, about to leave my garage. i have not driven the vehicle since, and each time i turn on the key, the warning remains. *tr
My steering suddenly went out while driving. the steering was borderline inoperable after it went out. there are recalls on most years except for 2010. it is $2000 for a repair. *tr
Driving home from work down a side street, without warning service power steering now message came on and also advance trac warning came on and the steering wheel was stiff and very very difficult to move. took me 20 mins to park my car with all my strength. *tr
Power steering fails leaving vehicle almost impossible to turn. happened when vehicle was stationary. took to chapman ford in marysville ohio for diagnostics. was told the electronic steering assist control failed. dealer provided estimate for $1,975.00 for replacement. forced to trade in vehicle and encumbered a loss of $1,975.00. *tr
Power steering assist fault light came on and i have no power steering. started looking for answers and many many others having the same issue. yet no recalls yet! *tr
While driving 30mph on a residential road my vehicle made an alerting noise accompanied by a dashboard notification of power steering failure and advanctrac failure, both of which advised me to seek service immediately. it was not until a moment later that i made it to the first stoplight upon receiving the notification, while traveling at a more reduced speed that i noticed my steering was not operating as usual. i nearly collided with another vehicle as we attempted to simultaneously make left turns when i noticed that i needed to exert excessive force to rotate my steering wheel. what kind of notification system would allow the operator a moments notice before a change in vehicle performance of this level? definitely not one that regards the safety or value of human life. i took the vehicle to the ford dealership where it was purchased and was informed that it would cost $2000 for the necessary repairs - which i am unable to make. my vehicle has just over 80,000 miles and i still owe $5,744. i have already provided my information to https://www.fordlawsuits.com/ for the power steering lawsuit in play.
My power steering went out again in less then 2 months after replacing it the first time. it cost me 2800.00 dollars out of pocket plus i have to tow it over 60 miles to the nearest deealership and it failed again. my 1st complaint # is 10907956. this is a huge safety factor for me and my family also others on the road. it causes you to loose control of the vehicle causing risk for accidents.
Power steering quit working while tuning on to our street. then service power steering now came on along with advancetrac. car was moving about 25 mph when it went out. *tr
Failure of the electronic power steering control module. with two reported investigations, one remaining open by nhtsa, one class action lawsuit , why is there not a recall on the suspected faulty module? i also own a 2013 ford taurus which was has a recent recall on the same part. there must be some faulty design or process that is causing these parts to prematurely fail. it is unacceptable for a consumer to be faced with a $2,000 repair on an electronic component of a vehcile after only 6 years of normal operation. moving parts, brakes, etc are subject to wear based on age and usage. electronics, while they can wear by usage, a six year lifespan on a critical element of the vehicles control and operation is simply unacceptable. please institute a recall on suspect or proven defective elements in the power steering system of these vehicles. there are many smoking guns.
I was with my kids in the car driving to a recreational league basketball game and my tire light indicator came on . i stopped at the gas station to put air in the front right driver side tire because that the one that looked like it needed air. after i completed that task the advancetrac indicator came on and then went off. i drove on the highway to the event and noticed that at times the turning was getting difficult. i got to the gym and turned into the lot without incident. i played my game came out and began to go home when before i could back out the "service power steering " message came across the dash. the car then became almost impossible to drive. i didn't want to take any chances with my kids in the car , so i called my wife to come get us and left the car. the next day i went for the vehicle but it took 1.5 hrs to get home which normally would be 25 minutes .i haven't drive the car since then and am highly upset that it seem as though this is a common problem for this vehicle and has caused injury and death . why was there not a recall for the power steering if its a known issue? *tr
Loss power steering while driving we have experienced a problem of loosing power steering when driving down the road. this has happened many times at start up and then its happened 4 time in the past 8 months. we have taken the car into the service station for this and they can't find anything wrong. we find that if you shut the car off and restart seems to fix the problem for now , but its still hard to turn when moving slow . this seems to be an issue with this year fusion. ford is telling me there are no issues but that's not what i'm seeing.the is telling me the fix could be around $2000.00 .
Power steering assist fault started every now and then when trying to reverse from a parking spot. car could be turned off and restarted to reset. after it did this about 10 times, power steering assist would not reset itself. had to drive the car with no power steering to the shop for repair. repair costs were $1900.
Steering trac warning light came on once i put my vehicle in drive (after backing out of my garage) on the way to work. called the dealership for an appointment to have vehicle checked out. on the way to dealership warning light went off then came back on. dealership informed me that repairs would be approximately $2,000.00 to replace power steering. this vehicle has approximately 50,000 miles. the steering is an absolute must on a vehicle - i am amazed that the ford motor company has not issued some form of recall or assistance in replacing. this will be the last ford product that will be purchased by this family.
Started the car in the morning to take kids to school, and as soon as we left the driveway and drove about 50 yards down our neighborhood street at about 15 mph, the service power steering and the service advanctrac light and warnings appeared in the information area on the dashboard. the steering became hard to turn but was able to drive the vehicle about 5 miles to the school with some muscling of the steering wheel required. once at the school, i turned the vehicle off, then returned to the vehicle about 20 minutes later. i started my vehicle and immediately the service power steering now warning appeared as well as the service advanctrac warning and light. this time i was barely able to turn the steering wheel and get back home. if i was driving around 40 mph, it was slightly easier to steer. but when turning at slow speeds, i had to use all my strength to turn the wheel. i attempted to reset the warnings by disconnecting the battery and waiting 10 min before reattaching the battery. it did not fix the issue. haven't driven it since.
When i turned on my vehicle and went to move, i had no power steering. i had a message "power steering assist fail". i turned the car off and back on and the error went away. i am calling the ford dealer now for more information/
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving 60 mph, the steering wheel seized and the power steering service and traction warning indicators illuminated. the contact called sheridan ford sales (4001 kirkwood hwy, wilmington, de 19808 (302) 999-0261) for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired due to the cost. the contact stated that the failure continued and the vehicle pulled to the right and left while driving various speeds. the contact had to turn off the ignition, wait a few moments, and restart the vehicle in order for the power steering to return to normal. the contact attempted to add power steering fluid, but discovered that the steering was electric. several months later, while driving out of the driveway, the vehicle began to bounce. the contact exited the vehicle and noticed that the front passenger side tire was turned inward. the vehicle was driven back to the contact's home and, while inspecting the front wheels, she noticed that the front driver side tie rod was fractured. the vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer for diagnostic testing or repair. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
While i was backing out of my driveway, the power steering suddenly failed. i turned off the ignition, restarted the car, and the power steering worked again. although i had no further troubles with it, later that week i brought the car to a ford dealership for a diagnostic. they confirmed that the rack-and-pinion steering needed to be replaced, or the power steering could fail again at any time without notice. it was an approximately $2,000 repair job. the car had fewer than 42,000 miles on it at the time of the incident.
takatarecall power steering assist fault showed on the dash when i turned engine along. steering vey hard and unable to ride the car. the vehicle was parking in a shopoing mall. recalls on 2011 , 2012 and 2014 presenting same mechanical problem still waiting for 2010 recall.
I turned on my car while it was stationary and the power steering in my car did not work and i received an error message on my dashboard saying "power steering assist fault". i also received a message saying the activetrak was not working as well. i took it to a ford dealer ship and was told my steering gear assembly needed to be replaced.
