The power steering went out my in car while i was driving. thank goodness i didn't have a accident. "service power steering now" indication on the instrument panel cluster as well and an advantrac light.
This vehicle has several complaints for the power steering assist failure. i have video of when mone failed and took a lot of other things with it like the air bags, brakes, advance track system and more. i called ford only to be told that they have never heard of such failure occuring! this is bull and they need to recall those vehicles for replacement before someone is killed. just wondering if that is what everyone is waiting for before anyone forces them to recall these vehicles. i have video proving all that it takes out when it fails. what do i do from here file a law suit of my own? had i been in an accident when the power steeringwent out i most likely would have been killed as the air bags would not have functioned. i would like to see my car replaced or at the very least repaired. when this happened to me i was driving down a highway at 70 mph and the power steering failed then the brakes then the air bags. most everything was taken out by the failure of the power steering. my husband was with me and can attest to what happened as he was the driver.
While stationary, the vehicle lost all power steering. the steering rack was replaced 1 month ago for this same issue. well, the problem came back. it appears to be a well known issue with other fusion owners. there is a recall with 2011-2012, but not with 2010 which uses the exact same steering rack. this is a major safety concern that needs to be addressed. car is almost impossible to drive without power steering. do a few people need to die in wrecks for this to be added to the recall?
We were driving to pick up our daughter when the service power steering now and service advancetrac came on the message board. we lost power steering to the car. luckily my mom's house wasn't far from our house. we got home safe and called the next day about repairs and found out it was over $1500. that is something we can't afford with a family. come to find out many people have this problem with the same make and model and have gotten it fixed but the problem keeps reoccurring. this is very disappointing to hear about this car. this was my wife's dream car and now we find out its not as safe as ford claims it is.
I was turning left at a major intersection and all of sudden i lost power steering. on my message screen the words popped up "service power steering now" then another message popped up regarding traction control. i almost collided with another vehicle. i was able to muscle the car to the right and avoid the collision. if my wife was driving, she would have hit the other vehicle. this is very much a safety issue. when i heard the repair costs to get it fixed, i cannot afford to have it fixed and now i am making payments on a vehicle i cannot drive due to this safety issue.
While driving home from work, the service advance trac and power steering light came on. i was able to make it home and i turned off the car, waited a little while and turned the car back on and this time it said "service power steering now" and the wheel was hard to turn. if 2010-2012 vehicles are affected, i don't get why only 2011-2012 are recalled. thank god i wasn't too far from home. i could've gotten into an accident regardless.
Takada recall - i have a 2010 ford fusion.... my wife and i was out last night and the steering stop working and a light came on the message panel saying advance servicetrac and service power steering now... this is high dangerous because we were no where near home and i have to drive all the way home with no power steering... i am glad i did have our daughter in the car. i don't knowant what's going on but many people have had this same problem and no one is being held accountable, only the consumers. pover steering is not a simple fix it is expensive. what are those of us who don't have the money to get it fixed suppose to do. hopefully this issue will be resolved. i really don't even want a ford car if all their cars come with electric power steering.
City street the car became undrivable had it taken to a shop.
This is my husbands car, the power steering message came on the dashboard and he lost control of the car while he was driving on a winding road. he was able to drive it back home, but has not had any power steering since. we took our car to the ford dealership where we had purchased it from. they said that our car needed a new epas rack. we were quoted at $1,600 to replace. we have not been able to use the vehicle since this had happened.
Advantrac warning light came on and also power steering service now signal came on. had no power steering. power steering failure signal had come on three or four times in the previous months. i would turn car off, turn back on and power steering would be back to normal. this time power steering never came back on. drove to dealer, they checked system and cleared codes and said i needed a new steering rack for $1,850.00. i declined. the power steering was working again but he said it would go out again. why?, when?. my car drives fine so why did i need a $1,850.00 repair. this is criminal activity. am i driving a computer with defective chips or a car with parts.
The power steering went out on my car and because it is electric it is going to cost a lot of money to fix. i have read several complaints about the 2010 ford fusions and am wondering if anything is going to be done about this. luckily i was able to pull over when i noticed it was happening otherwise i could have been in an accident.
After starting the car and backing out, the power steering went out and i was unable to get out of the line of traffic. i was almost hit from the side. ford recalled the next 2 years for having the same problem, why havent they recalled 2010 models?! this is very dangerous and can cause an accident.
When making turns the power steering goes out and "power steer assist fault" comes up in the message center. i can turn the car off and back on again and it usually resets itself but always occurs again. this has happened over 20 times and is very dangerous as power steering is lost.
My 2010 ford fusion se power steering assist fault notification has been coming on for about 3 years off and on. every mechanic i speak to is telling me to reset it and i should be ok. so i've done that several times and that doesn't seem to help because it never worked. once day i was on my way to work in july of 2018 and i lost power steering while driving on the highway and i could've been in a terrible accident but luckily i was able to manually steer the wheel to get me to my job. my husband had to come to my job to pick the car up and take it home. the car is non operable because of this. we bought this car february 15th, 2015 and all around it was a great car but we are slowly finding out that this car was not properly built correctly and this is very concerning because this is a family vehicle that was once noted as a safe passenger vehicle and it's rxactly the opposite. i'm so frustrated because every auto shop is telling my husband and i that it'll cost approximately $1900+ to fix!! this is absolutely insane because there's no way that this eps- electronic power steering rack and pinion should be out on this car!! i've had cars from beginning to end and that was never an issue. however i've seen numerous complaints about this defect and this needs to be fixed!! all ford fusions from 2010+ needs to be fixed because this is dangerous and not safe!
My power steering went out in march of 2016. i had to pay out of pocket because there was not a recall on the 2010's just the 2011 and 2012's. well here it is, 2018 and my power steering went out again... i cant see myself paying another $1500 for something that is out of my control. seems as if it happens while the car is sitting. i can recall driving and a light came across my dash. i didn't know what the light meant and i didn't notice any change with my car until the next morning when i tried pulling out of my driveway. its extremely dangerous!!!
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while replacing a flat tire on the vehicle, the power steering warning indicator illuminated. the contact stated that after replacing the tire, the steering wheel became very difficult to maneuver. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 74,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving 65 mph, the traction control light and power steering light illuminated. the steering wheel seized. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 95,600.
Feb 25, 2016, suddenly the power steering went out, almost impossible to steer, panel warning lights came on with power steering assist failure, power steering failure.. 2010-2012 ford fusions with known power steering failure problems, yet the 2010 isn't in the recall? hundreds have this same prob with their 2010 fusions! dangerous, happened as soon as i started the car, but had to get medication to elderly parent nearby, while driving after a mi snowstorm! now, have to pay to have it towed, let alone pay to fix this? can't turn the wheel without extreme effort, also smell an odd 'burny' smell..not to mention, this car already has a fuel system recall (letter rec'd in jan 2016) but dealership still says they don't have the parts and it's the end of feb 2016...the power steering was recalled in the following 2 years with the exact same issue--what is status for 2010 fusions with this problem! help!
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving 60 mph, the electrical power steering malfunctioned. the contact made numerous attempts to recover the power steering, but was unsuccessful. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the power steering control module was defective and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). the failure mileage was not provided. updated 04/22/16*lj updated 6/6/18*jb
My seventeen year old son power steering went out while he was driving home from work at night. this could have caused an serious accident, but through the grace of god he made it home. however now we have a faulty vehicle with alot of complaints dealing with the same issue and yet ford still hasn't done anything.
I was driving on interstate 77 south just before edens fork exit , charleston wv 25312. the road was downhill and curved to the left. without any sign of trouble the steering wheel jerked to the right i had temporarily lost control of vehicle which made the car swerve off road and headed toward concrete drainage ditch and off interstate into the woods. i was lucky i got both hands on steering wheel and having lost the power steering was driving manually so to speak was able to get car turned partially sideways and slid in the gravel into the concrete drainage ditch which was well enough beveled to allow me to slowly slide into the ditch, where my car came to a stop. i was traveling in the right cruising lane so nothing was to my right. had i been in the passing lane and passing traffic i would have ended up causing an accident, no doubt in my mind. i have found out that there has been a recall of the 2011-12 ford fusions because of the failure of the electric motor that were placed into those fusions to power assist the steering. i have since learned that some if not all of the 2010 ford fusions have the same steering mechanism as the 2011 and 2012 ford fusions. i do know that if you order the complete rack and pinion unit for 2010 ford fusion it is the same replacement as the 2011 and 2012 uses. so i would like to file my own complaint about my experience with the power assist steering mechanism on my 2010 ford fusion. i think the 2010 ford fusion should included on the recall. i could have very easily been involved in a serious single or multiple car accident. i am old enough to have driven vehicles that didn't have power steering and that helped me also in avoiding an accident. i was driving my daughters 2010 ford fusion when it happened. i am not sure if she could have avoided an accident if she had been driving it.
While backing up the vehicle the "power assist steering fault" message displays. turning the car off and and on will occasionally resolve the issue, but has been happening with increasing frequency the past couple weeks and days. when this happens the steering wheel cannot be turned and all control of the vehicle is lost. dealership says the entire power assists system ($1200 part + ~$400 in labor) needs addressed. they indicated it's the same problem / fix that's seen in the 2011-2012 ford fusion recall, however the 2010 model isn't included.
While driving the vehicle, a "power steering assist fault" message appeared in the message area and the steering wheel became extremely difficult to turn to direct the vehicle. there was no power steering, and manual force was needed to safely remove the vehicle from a 45-mph highway.
Power steering assist locking up
I was driving and power steering went out, 2 nessages popped up after wards saying service power steering now and service advance trac
While driving my power steering assist failed causing my steering to be extremely difficult. this is very unsafe. my car only has 56,000 miles on it and has received maintaince on time. i don't understand if so many people are having this same problem why we are not included the the 2011-12 fusion power steering recall??? $2000 is a lot of money to fix clearly a manufacture error!
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving 25 mph, the steering wheel seized and became extremely difficult to turn. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 63,000. the vin was not available.
The car has ~82000 miles on it. this morning after starting the vehicle i noticed a "power steering assist fault". i turned off the car and restarted. there were no alarm notifications at that time. it is only a matter of time before this happens again, hopefully when i am not driving at interstate speeds... i have read that 2010 is not included in the recall notice for faulty a power steering system. i sure hope ford has a good reason for not including the 2010 model...
While driving straight on the street the service power steering soon message came on the dash display then the service stable trac message came on the not 10 minutes later the car lost all power steering and messaged changed to service power steering now. car was almost impossible to control and i had to pull over for safety reasons.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 10 mph and making a right turn, the steering wheel seized as the advanced trac and the power steering assist fault warning indicators illuminated. the contact was nearly involved in a rear end collision due to the failure. the contact turned off and restarted the vehicle however, the failure persisted. the vehicle was towed to the contacts residence. the vehicle was driven to the dealer and was diagnosed that the steering gear needed to be replaced. the contact was told that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
Power steering cut out as i was pulling in to a parking place. drove car home without the power steering and found when checking on line that others have had the same problem. i am now not going to let my wife drive the car because she would have been stuck there and needed a tow.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving at any speed, the steering wheel seized and was extremely difficult to turn. in addition, the service engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a repair shop. the cause of the failure was unable to be diagnosed. the contact was advised to check with the manufacturer for diagnostic testing. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v793000 (fuel system, gasoline), but was unable to determine when the part would become available to receive the recall remedy. the contact was waiting on the manufacturer to supply the part to the dealer to receive the recall repair. the failure mileage was not available. vin tool confirms parts not available.
Loss of power steering, and advance trac
While driving straight on a highway the service power steering soon message came on the dash display then the service stable trac message came on the not 10 minutes later the car lost all power steering and messaged changed to service power steering now. car was almost impossible to control while i drove it back to my house.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while attempting to move the vehicle out of a parking lot, the steering wheel seized. the contact stated that the steering wheel required extra effort to turn. the vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic. the contact was informed that the electronic steering power assist gear needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 101,420.
Vehicle was traveling at approx. 70mph on a highway. dash lights flashed and beeped and warning message appeared. steering locked up and wheel was difficult to turn. drove it with difficulty off of the highway to a parking lot and towed it to dealer. dealer says there is no warranty or recall and the cost will be $2000 to repair. this is a power steering issue and seems to be a prevalent problem with this type of car. some models were recalled, not mine. dealer wants to replace the entire steering assembly.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while making a left turn at approximately 25 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver and the power steering assist failure error message displayed. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the power steering electrical panel needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the issue. the failure mileage was 80,000.
I left the gas station 2 nights ago and the "service power steering now" came on along with the "service advancetrac" light. after stopping at the store, upon restarting all power steering was gone. vehicle has approximately 43,000 miles. quote was $1850 for repair.
I was driving home last night and the error message, "service power steering now", appeared. i parked my car in my parking space. this morning when i got up for work, the messages, "service power steering now" and "service advancetrac" appeared. i have no power steering and after reading the other complaints/reviews, i'm thankful i wasn't driving when it completely went out. after reading the reviews, i see that this is a common problem, that there is a class action lawsuit and that the problem can be quite expensive to repair (ranging from $1,650 to about $2,250). there was minimal to no notice to have the power steering serviced before it went completely out and this is very dangerous.
Power steering assist fault alert message is on and car has no power steering. ford and dealer say that this is owner responsibility to repair even though 2011 - 2012 ford fusions have a recall for this. i do not have the arm strength to drive the car without the steering so it has to fixed.
On 01/05/2016, after picking up my god daughter who i haven't seen in a while, my power steering went out on us on our way to grab something to eat. the trac alert came on the warning screen and also the service power steering warning. i have researched the issue, called the dealer and also a personal mechanic. the price to fix this is ridicolous. i guess the lives of the consumers do not matter. i am grateful we were able to turn into a parking lot because it could have went completely left. ford needs to do something i love my life clearly you dont.
Power steering goes in and out power steering gear bad due to internal friction in motor. sensor code comes on to fix asap took to dealer will not honor recall because not right year. recall for 2011 not 2010 this problem needs to be recalled for all years having problem around those dates. vehicle was in motion when this problem started was lucky i was not on the high way i was able to pull into a parking lot and had to have towed home.
The other day i drove my car across town to the gym, and when i was leaving to drive home i noticed a display reading "power steering assist fault" and my steering wheel feels as if it is locked in place. this was the second time this has happened to me, but the first time it went away after restarting the car. this occurrence it has not gone away and is near impossible to drive. i had to call my father to come and pick the car up cause i didn't feel safe driving it the remaining distance home. the mechanic took a look at it and said the electronic power steering module was not working and needed replacement. the part alone is 1200-1500 dollars. i have been reading about many other ford fusions having this exact same problem, and ford has issued a recall on many similar years and models. ford said my car is not covered in this recall, although i'm experiencing the exact same problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving at 45 mph, the steering wheel seized without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that the electric power steering rack needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 170,000.
Exiting freeway at 55-60mph speeds, power steering went out and multiple service errors came on the hud. nearly crashed into guard rail and semi that was following me barely made it around me. steering wheel very difficult to turn. seems to be a known problem with these cars, and no action by ford. extremely unsafe. service appointment set for monday, january 4th at 2:00pm at ricart ford in columbus, ohio.
