I was going around a turn and my steering wheel locked up and i could not turn it left or right. i luckily was near a parking lot where i drifted into and call aaa. my car had to get towed. was not drivable. i had no prior warnings before my steering wheel locked up. *tr

2010 ford fusion se 2.6l drove vehicle to restaurant for dinner. when we came out after approx 1 1/2 hours started car, within 30 seconds "power steering assist failure" light came on and there was no power steering. put car in reverse, tried to drive but was so unbelievably tight, could almost not turn at all. put car back in park and turned engine off. waited approx 20 seconds and restarted car. "power steering assist failure" light came immediately back on. drove across parking lot to gas station to purchase power steering fluid and found out that my vehicle does not have power steering fluid...it's electrical. while the engine was off at the gas station evidently the system reset itself because when we restarted the car it was fine. - i had my family..2 small kids and husband in the car..this was very frightening...after doing all the research tonight about this failure...i'm honestly very frightened to drive it anymore. i have many future doctor appointments about 2 1/2 hour drive from my house coming up for surgery...and i'm seriously questioning ford's thinking on not recalling the vehicles for this problem. *tr

Car has heavy vibration during highway driving. car has been in for service twice in thirty days with a four wheel alignment and tires being rebalanced, brakes have also been check. vibration still there 1000 miles later. looking for some answers before concrete wall is coming at me at 65 mph! *tr

I run a livery business and luckily there were no clients in the vehicle when the power steering just stopped working. i brought the vehicle directly to my mechanic and hooked it up to the computer, although the service advance trac and power steering service now warning lights are on, his computer is not pulling codes or finding any problems? i then went to the dealership and explained the problem to them and they are saying i am going to have to replace the entire steering rack although i have read there is no guarantee this will actually rectify the problem. when researching this online i am amazed at the amount of complaints i have found. why has there not been a recall on this yet? luckily there have been no serious injuries or deaths due to this existing problem. what is it going to take ford to resolve this? maybe there should be a class action lawsuit filed just like the unintended acceleration lawsuit. i am very disgusted. i am now losing money as i can not run my business with no vehicle. *tr

On starting the car, the steering column was locked up and would not turn. towed to ford dealership, they assessed that the whole steering column had to be replaced. cost me $2000. this is a common problem and i am surprised that ford has not issued a recall. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. there was a sudden loss of power steering with the illumination of the warning indicator. the vehicle was driven to the side of the road where the engine was turned off. upon restarting, the vehicle resumed with the steering wheel malfunction. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and an unknown repair was performed. the failure persisted. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 48,382. the vin was unavailable.

While driving on road at 50 mph the car suddenly alarmed "service advancetrac" and "service power steering now." my steering wheel locked on me. thank god it didn't cause an accident. i see on this website and the internet there are multiple complaints about this but no recalls. this is very expensive to fix!!!!i why no recalls yet? *tr

Service advancetrac fault displayed service power steering now displayed then powering steering turned off and then vehicle was very hard to steer epas is now not working dealer stated this was the reason why power steering is off. *tr

Started my car and everything was fine, within 45 seconds of driving my dash said service power steering now and then service advancetrac, with the advancetrac light coming on. as soon as this happened my power steering was completely gone and i could hardly turn. it has never worked since and whenever i start the car it says service power steering now shortly followed by service advancetrac. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while in reverse, the steering wheel seized. the failure recurred five times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician could not determine the failure. in addition, the contact stated that the vehicle was taken back to the dealer a fifth time and was diagnosed that the internal failure of the epas rack and pinion assembly failed. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 60,590. updated 07/12/16*lj updated 08/02/16.*jb

I was driving home from work on the interstate when the car became hard to steer. i pulled off the road turned the car off. when i turned the car back on it was fine and i went on home. the next day when i started the car there was a power steering assist failure. i took the car to the ford dealer. they said the steering gear was going out and would cost $1600 to repair. since my 2010 ford fusion had only 43000 miles on it, i called ford. they said they couldn't help me. *tr

Twice in parking lot message appeared -power steering assist fault. at first appeared to be power (battery) related, because the car was in park and when i turned car off then on again message is gone, car was driving fine. - about an hour later, same message appeared and power steering no longer works. turning on and off no longer correcting the problem. this is the second potentially very dangerous problem i have had with this car in the last 6 months. *tr

I was driving my 2010 ford fusion on a dry level street and suddenly the service power steering now and advance trac failure displayed on my radio. it is estimated to cost $1200 to fix this and i have seen approximately 25% of the complaints about ford fusions involve this issue. please help us there is an obvious fault from ford. *tr

My wife was driving to a appointment and about 2 miles away from the house, the advance trac light came on then the car steering locked up and the car lost control, she was able to pull up against the side walk safe, but it scared her really bad thinking it was going to be a serious and that her and the baby she carrying would be hurt, why is their not a recall on this problem, so many people has had the same problem with the ford fusion it should be. *tr

I turned right out of a parking lot onto the highway traveling at 35 mph when the "power steering fault" light came on the steering felt heaver than usual i drove about 7 miles than parked car. when i restarted the car after 2 hours the information panel said "service power steering now" and "service advancetrac" and the power assist was off extremely difficult to steer. could be extremely dangerous if this was to happen in a parking lot with people around. *tr

Turning corner with children present, service advance trac & service power steering light came on and lost power steering. very very dangerous situation. should be a recall on steering gear 2010-2012 fusion models. electric sealed unit too costly to keep repairing. faulty and dangerous. could have been fatal. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving a 35 mph, the power steering system malfunctioned. the contact stated steering wheel was very difficult to control. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 80,000.

There was a flat tire on the vehicle causing the eps (electronic power steering) to have a problem. when the tire was aired up, the error on the power steering did not go away. i have read from many online websites and resources that this is a very common problem. dealerships act like they have never heard about it, but if you type in the year make and model and steering, it pulls many pages of the exact problem. i have been reading reports from these sites and they all say it is something else wrong with it and all the dealerships replace something different just to make money. i have talked to many mechanics that are not associated with ford and if the code is cleared from the computer, or reset so to speak, the problem is erased but the dealerships don't want to do that because that is how they make money. *tr

Power steering completely failed and service power steering now came on the dash warning. later service advancetrac also came on dash warning. steering very difficult at slow speeds. likely too difficult for small person to negotiate a parking lot. car has electric power steering and entire steering rack must be replaced as the failed sensor is not serviceable from actual rack and pinion. cost of part ford part ste27 is $1186.74 plus labor. if part failed in a turn when driver assumes easy steering i could see a problem occurring. *tr

I have just had this fixed 2 weeks ago for the same problem. january 24, 2013 my power steering and advance trac light came on again. i took it to the mechanics today and they tell me that the tires may need to be replaced and i have even done 60,000 miles on the tires-yet they are worn out already. i knew i needed tires, my inspection is due next month. i have only had this car for 3 years and i am already having problems with it. i'm angry! i thought fords were better built now-a-days. wrong............i'm so disappointed with this car. fairly new and having what i consider major problem. *tr

Drove to wal-mart at around 5 minutes after driving my steering went out and got a message saying service power steering and advanced track. a friend of mine also owns the same vehicle and he also experienced the same issue. *tr

This is the third time my power steering has gone out. the part has been replaced twice. i paid 1600+ dollars and still it malfunctions. *tr

While traveling on a side road, the dic stated 'service power steering' then ' service advanced trac', shortly after the steering locked up and it displayed 'service power steering now'. luckily i wasn't mid turn or my vehicle would have gone off the road or into on coming traffic. after restarting the vehicle there was no change in the condition. my obd reader displayed codes c1277 and c1963. *tr

While traveling at 45 mph "service power steering" message appeared on my dash and immediately i lost all power steering. i was able to turn into a parking lot and there are no signs of a leak nor is there any indication that the pulley is frozen. my family was with me and if this had happened while making a turn when i wasn't able to anticipate needing to compensate for the lack of power steering, or if my wife was driving, there could have been a serious accident. i believe that after looking at multiple forums and discovering hundreds of similar scenarios that this model vehicle needs to be recalled and have the problem fixed immediately. this is a potentially fatal problem. *tr

From the time of starting the vehicle up to approx 5 - 10 minutes there is no power steering in my car. i can be going any speed and it doesn't work. *tr

I went to pick up my car from the ford dealership after dropping it off, again, on friday, 12/27 to fix the same exact issue i brought it in for the day before. the steering got incredibly stiff and the "service power steering now" light came on as well as the "service advancetrac" light. the first time they replaced the steering rack. second time they blamed the wiring. i brought the car in today 12/31 but they were closed so i can't wait to see what they are going to try to fix when they open back up on jan 2nd. i have not been able to drive this car for almost a week now and i wont be able to any time soon i feel. *tr

On monday 12/23/13 the fusion showed a low tire pressure message and the steering wheel started to shake slightly when i was driving in the lower speeds. when we started the car up on 12/26/13 and proceeded to take it out of the garage, the power steering was no longer working. i've read that there have been many other ford fusion owners that are experiencing the same or similar issues with the ford fusion over the past few months. *tr

While driving my car 45 mph, i got an error on the dashboard saying, "service power steering now" and "advance track system malfunction". at that moment, my power steering went out and i could hardly steer the car to the side of the road. i could not drive the vehicle because it was impossible to steer. this is a safety hazard and as of this date, there is no recall or "bulletin" on file at the dealership. this could cause a serious accident if someone is not strong enough to handle the car if this happens. i've read many posts about this problem online and a few have caused accidents. i found a mechanic to reset the power steering, but he couldn't fix the problem because the computer needs to be reprogrammed and only a dealer can do this because the codes needed are proprietary and ford won't give them out. i'm also filing a complaint with ford on this issue, but don't expect to hear back from them. *tr

While driving on a freeway at 65 miles my right front tire went flat and i lost all power steering function. the "service power steering now" and "service advancetrac" warnings appeared. i immediately pulled over and installed the spare. upon restarting the car the warnings remained and i had no power steering assist at all. it is almost impossible to turn a corner or pull into a parking space. the force needed to turn the steering wheel is unbelievable. judging by the complaints filed, and the volume of posts on the internet, dating back to 2006, i find it hard to believe that this issue has never been addressed. this is a very serious safety issue which could most certainly result in accidents and potential fatalities. *tr

Upon driving down a busy road, out of no where i lost my power steering, almost colliding into a post, and got a notification that my esc failed right afterwards. the steering is now really stiff and requires a lot of force to turn. i tried searching the reason why this happens online and found a ton of similar if not the exact same situation as mine. this is unsafe!! *tr

Every time engine starts, ford fusion dash displays two (2) fault codes: cross traffic system fault, and check rear park aid. both fault alerts clear after pressing controls on the steering wheel. however, both, the rear park aid, and the cross traffic system stopped working. each provides unique audible buzzing' alerts when auto is in reverse to warn of an impending crash/contact with a person or object. two safety system features that no longer worked. the 2010 ford fusion was out of warranty, (4 years old, less than 8,500 miles on odometer) so i had to pay the dealership about $150.00 to diagnose the problem. the dealership diagnosed the problem as a broken, and non-working speaker in the top of the rear seat. the cost to replace this speaker would be approximately, $350.00, and there would be no guarantee that this will fix the 2 problems, although the mechanic said he was 98% sure the diagnostic was correct. ford motor company offered to pay $200 toward the repair. result: two safety systems are now working, but i had to pay $300.00 of the $500.00 cost to diagnose and repair these safety system features. a speaker in the top of the rear seat' is a part of an auto that an owner expects would last for the life of the auto, and certainly more than 8,500 miles on an odometer. since this speaker is an integral part of both safety systems, not subject to any wear and tear, its failure to work/operate as designed is an obvious design or product fault, and something that ford motor should repair at its expense. *tr

I just purchased my 2010 ford fusion on august 1, 2013. i believed that i was purchasing a great car, however, slowly but surely i am learning that my 2010 ford fusion has issues along with a number of other ford fusions sold in the states. on sunday, december 15, 2013, i experienced a flat tire. luckily, a gas station was literally on the corner, i pulled into the station and filled the flat tire with the appropriate amount of air. i got back in my car, started it and proceeded to back out, my multi-function display begin to flash "service power steering now", "advance trac", i had no idea what this meant until i began to turn the steering wheel.... it was extremely difficult to do so. however, i had no choice but to try and steer it. i made it back home safely and accident free running to the computer to research this since the ford dealership was closed. i "googled" power steering failure on 2010 ford fusion and there appeared a number of complaints from fusion owners. i thought that maybe this was a good thing... perhaps there was a recall on my vehicle and this would be a quick fix or repair by a ford service department. i contacted the ford service department to inquire about this issue and to see if there's a recall and a representative confirmed that there is absolutely no recall on my vehicle. i grew increasingly frustrated because after reading all the complaints i couldn't fathom how no one had researched this issue and deemed it a repair/recall that ford should take care of. i am now subject to a $116.00 diagnostic charge by the ford service department although the car is already stating what the issue is, and i will still have to come out of pocket for the repair, god only knows how much that'll be. i surely hope that someone can add some insight to this issue and hazard. *tr

I was driving down the road at 30mph when suddenly it felt like i lost the brakes for a moment. i was in the middle of turning and i felt the steering wheel lock up and i could barely stop the car. i have since figured out that the abs is not working and because of this the power steering is not working. this could have been a very dangerous situation at a higher rate of speed. i am thankful i was not going any faster when this happened. *tr

The service power steering and service advancetrac warning lights appeared and suddenly the power steering was lost . my daughter was driving the vehicle at the time and could not control the steering. this created a sudden emergency and dangerous situation. i've noted several complaints about this in researching solution to problem, most suggest several thousand $$ for repairs. *tr

2010 ford fusion sel v6 entered vehicle for errand. vehicle started normally, however after short distance power steering almost locked up, info on dash stated service power steering and advance trak systems now. have replaced power steering rack with new ford parts. first one lasted four weeks then trouble message on dash activated. vehicle still drove normally. upon parking and restarting steering was almost locked up again. replaced rack second time. vehicle drove normally for two weeks then system acted as it had before the first rack was replaced. currently vehicle is steerable for very strong person but average could not steer vehicle. this issue, would without doubt lead to crash and injury were it to occur while on highway. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to turn without warning. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 126,459. *tr

Power steering failure while driving. ford advanctrak awd failure. total loss of stability/traction control, abs, and steering. *tr

In the middle of driving approx 25mph, service advancetrac light came on and then off very quickly, thought maybe it was an electrical glitch. arrived at destination 5 minutes later and shut off car. a half an hour later, went to turn on car and the service advancetrac/service power steering now lights were on. when i tried to drive the car to the nearest gas station, the car would barely move at all let alone turn. had to put hazards on and continue driving while almost hitting about 5 cars due to no power steering. extremely dangerous and extremely costly problem. after having this happen to me i have been researching and very many cases of this occurred, i am very shocked that ford has not issued a recall for the 2010 fusions. *tr

After getting gas my wife and i pulled out into traffic and mid turn the power steering went out. no warning stuck right in the lane of on coming traffic. *tr

First time the power steering quit while driving around town at 25mph. "service powersteering" message came up and the power steering was working again upon turning off the car and restarting it. a few days later the power steering quit and "service steering now" came up along with "advance trac disabled" and now the power steering quit completely. still have manual steering which wasn't bad on classic cars with huge steering wheels but makes it difficult to drive with the tiny wheel in the fusion. quick search on google showed me that i wasn't alone with this issue and than 100's of others have/had the same problem and i'm lucky it didn't happen in a panic situation. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated he was driving 55 mph when the power steering assist malfunctioned. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the electronic power steering gear needed to be replaced. the contact stated the defect was not remedied. the contact called the manufacturer and was informed that the vehicle was not recalled. the vehicle mileage was 43,850.

Steering dash light came on. when the vehicle was shut off the power steering assist was not working on re-start. the steering gear box was replaced and the problem happened again. the car is showing codes for transmission and anti-lock brake components. when the codes are cleared the steering is ok for a while. *tr

I was driving at approximately 40mph when a "service power steering now" and "service advancetrac" message came up. at this point, it became difficult to steer. i then parked my vehicle, turned the car off, and back on. the message was still there. i took it to the dealership and they mentioned the power steering rack needed to be replaced. the cost (parts and labor) is $1,830.73. this an absurd cost that i have to incur because i noticed many people have experienced something familiar. in many cases, it seems as though the service message went away when the car was restarted making it seem like a sensor issue; however, in my case, i'm being told that the rack needs to be replaced. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while traveling approximately 70 mph, the power steering warning light illuminated as the vehicle became extremely difficult to steer. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was found that the steering rack needed to be replaced. the vehicle was being repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 76,000. the vin was unavailable.

I was driving home and the doing about 45 mph on the express way approaching the exit ramp the power steering just went out. *tr

When traveling home from work on november 4th, 2013. vehicle's advancetrac system failed.this made it difficult to turn car as it made the steering wheel very stiff. this caused an accident when entering a parking lot. i took the vehicle to the dealership and was notified that the vehicle just became "out of warranty" at 75,000 miles. the estimated cost of repair was $1762.00 having the vehicle without its power steering has also affected my tires. which needed to be constantly replaced. *tr

Started car and shifted to drive then it chimed and advancetrac service light and powersteering failure light came on. had to turn key off and restart to get it off display. *tr

While driving vehicle at various speeds from 25 mph to highway speeds of 55 mph, electric power steering periodically and suddenly cuts out, making steering difficult especially due to the suddenness and unexpectedness of these incidents. incidents seem to occur when riding over a bump in the road and are typically noticed most frequently on highway on/off ramps. *tr

I lost my power steering in my 2010 fusion. i took it to the dealer (thinking i had a warranty on it) to get it fixed. they told me that they flashed the computer and it came back with a hard fault and the whole rack need to be replace. not having the money i picked up the car and it worked fine. drove it for a week then at the same spot in the road it went out again. called another dealer closer to work too see if i could have it reflashed to hopefully reset it again but they told me once it was flashed that they couldn't do it again. i really hope this gets resolved. now i replaced it with a used one and have not had a problem since. *tr
