We have classified the 779 complaints from 2010 Ford Fusion about VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL into the following categories.
Intermittently my brakes will go out, most often this happens after the vehicle has been off and i turn it off and try to reverse though it also happens when in drive. it has happens on access roads, the highway, my driveway and most often in parking lots. my car will roll and be completely unresponsive to the fact that i have my foot on the brake. the brake pedal goes soft and i can press it all the way to the floor. my brake light, abs light, etc on the dashboard all light up and my car keeps rolling. i try turning my vehicle on and off as sometimes even the emergency brake or putting the car in park will not get the vehicle to stop. i have almost hit other cars and pedestrians because of this issue and it is highly dangerous and come to find out a known glitch for some 2010 ford fusions.
Middle of freeway driving, car deaccellerated and went into limp home mode. safely stopped and error cleared on restart. dealer replaced electronic throttle body, technician indicated the test graph had a spike upon testing. likely unit of failure.
I had already gotten my throttle body repaired the year before my car started jolting as if it was malfunctioning again. this time though the vehicle would jump when i tried accelerate from stop, rpms would go all the way up to 5 before switching gears and the speedometer would move up and down while electrical lights flickered. took it to ford and nothing was found so i got an oil change and transmission flush. that same day the car started doing it again. i took the car back to ford they offered to clean the throttle body and returned the car the next day. not even 24hrs after started the same problem. i took car to auto zone they immediately found an error for the camshaft position sensor. brought car back to ford where they had me leave it for two days for the transmission tech to look at it. they then said oil had leaked onto the sensor causing the car to drive that way. replaced that and the head that was leaking. car was still jolting and driving as if throttle body was messed up but worse. i brought my car back that same week they found a sensor that needed to be replaced in the transmission. this whole while i was 8-9 months pregnant and ended up spending 1200 dollars on something that should've been fixed the first timr and in my opinion a side effect from the car having a defective throttle body for so long before they allowed it to be fixed.
Rapid deceleration: while driving on the freeway rapid deceleration occurred. car slowed to about 25mph and would not accelerate when gas pedal was pushed. exited freeway.. turned engine off and restarted. car operated normal. no error icons showed. about a half mile from home problem reoccurred crawled home at 10mph. next several days problem did not reoccur. about a week later same problem reoccurred while driving home ..10mph. spoke to ford service to see if they would cover repairs and they declined. took it to my repair shop and they replaced the throttle body. $600. very scary dangerous situation when this occurs on the freeway.
On 3 seperate occasions i have experienced sudden rapid acceleration with my auto. first while slowly accelerating from a parking spot in a crowded department store parking lot. second while slowly moving forward in a fast food drive thru line. barely missing the vehicle in front of me. and third while slowing down approaching a stop sign again moving slow exiting a parking lot. all three times i've had to almost stand on the brake to stop and shift to neutral and kill the engine. the vehicle is a 2010 ford fusion with apprx 130,000 miles.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while reversing into a parking space, the engine suddenly revved very high before the vehicle suddenly accelerated. after turning the vehicle off and restarting the engine, the vehicle operated normally; however, the failure recurred approximately four hours later. while at a stop light, the engine suddenly began to rev very high and the engine suddenly accelerated. while depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle suddenly accelerated forward and caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. the driver shifted into park to stop the vehicle. there was a car in front of me and a car in back of me. car violently shook and sped forward at a fast speed. car veered into oncoming traffic and went up over the curb. consumer's foot was on the brake the whole time. consumer put the car in park and the vehicle stopped. engine was racing. the vehicle was taken to jd byrider (1561 west liberty ave, pittsburgh, pa) where it was diagnosed that the motor mount was faulty and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 90,000. *bf*jb
While driving fusion service down highway sunday(12-16-18) service power steering now light came on & couldn't turn steering wheel without complications & had to get home to park car before i hit something due to steering wheel too hard to steer, car shaking, and couldn't hardly keep in lane. the service advance light also came on & both remain on & little to no control left to steer the car so car remains parked. ford knows there are issues with this part and extremely costly repairs and part is a necessity to safely operate the car. this part should be recalled and repaired at the cost of ford motor not their customers who seek a safe car to transport themselves and their families in.
I bought the car used the end of july 2018 for my daughter to drive. she informed me today that from time to time it as if the car stalls out when driving it or when she tries to accelerate. i did some research online just a few minutes ago and found that this is a common problem. see the link attached: https://www.carcomplaints.com/ford/fusion/2010/engine/sudden_deceleration_loss_of_power.shtml this was just from one website and there are several others with the same issue. it would seem to me that this is a safety issue. my question is if this has been brought to your attention, why would you not do something about it? not being able to accelerate when in traffic can be extremely dangerous and could lead to car accidents. she is living in atlanta and i am in orlando so she just mentioned it today when i talked to her but she said it has happened a few times since she has had it the last few months.
Takata recall i was driving and the car began to slow down rapidly. i was unable to control where i was going and unable to accelerate or decelerate. i have no control over the vehicle when this happens. it is not an all the time problem, but does happen very often. the check engine light comes on when it happens and the car accelerates briefly before instantly shutting off. the wrench symbol also comes on before this all takes place. i could be using cruise control or just normal driving and it happens in both situations. the vehicle tends to do it no matter where you are such as a high way or on a regular city street. i have had the vehicle checked out numerous (six) times to see why it does this. the mechanic hooks it up to the computer every time and states there is nothing wrong but then resets the symbol lights so they go out. the car will be fine for a week or so and then do it again! it is scary when it happens and i try not to drive the car due to this issue. how can you fix something the mechanics state is not broken? something isnt right with the vehicle and something needs to be investigated to see why it does this! it can not only be my car!

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving, the vehicle failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. when the vehicle was turned off and restarted, it operated normally. the vehicle was taken to the dealer cloninger ford (1241 us hwy 70 se, hickory, nc 28602), but the failure could not be duplicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 56,000.
April 30, 2018 after driving for 3 hours on the highway at appr. 75 to 80 mph the dash lights went haywire, flickering and then the service advancetrac warning came d. i was able to drive it to my exit and drive slowly. i could stop and go very slow. after a mile or 2 the batter light and all the lights came on and the brake light warning light came on. i could feel the car loosing power so i pulled over. at this time it was also chiming that the cross fault system was not available. after turning the car off, it would not start, the radio would play, lights would work and hazards would work .the steering was hard to turn the car was towed to a mechanic shop and i am awaiting a diagnosis. earlier on april 16, i received a letter from ford stating they would no longer host the vehicle health report system.
The wrench light come on and i lost acceleration. very hazardous situation. the throttle body needs replacing. this should be a recall.
While driving my vehicle the service advancetrac warning light came on. my vehicle would not accelerate appropriately and then would not be in gear. i have taken it to the dealer and they replaced sensors etc. they have identified that the steering rack and pinion will need to be replaced. when i researched this i found that this is a common issue for this vehicle and that a recall had in fact been instituted for 2011 and newer models. this is a problem in vehicles from 2010 as well. there is no reason owners of 2010 models should have to pay the expense to fix this dangerous vehicle failure when new model owners do not. the part itself (for aftermarket) costs $1000.
My car while i was driving had an issue where it decelerated on its own and there was no gas pedal....throwing a throttle actuator ccontrol system code saying was stuck open...this has happened a couple times now but code cleared before could look at...took to les stumpf ford they are telling me they can't do anything til the code stasys on for therm to test....so i am supposed to drive an unsafe vehicle for a known prooblem that the company was sued about and created a customer satisfaction extended warranty instead of recalling it until it does it again....and i am at about 142000 and only covers til 150000
Driving...speed all of a sudden dropped to around 2 mph...would go no faster....yellow wrench light appeared on instrument panel along with check engine soon light, if i had been in traffic there could have been a fatal accident...by all indications ...the throttle body is the cause of the problem..read various reports of other 2010 ford fusion owners with the identical problem...this is a very serious and dangerous problem that needs to be addressed without delay...
On may 25, 2017 i pulled into a parking lot over a speed bump and rounded a building pulling into a parking space. from the speed bump to the parking space the slow speed is perfect for pulling in the space. i was braking to a stop when my car lurched forward only stopping when it struck the building. my foot was on the brake the entire time, as witnessed by my passenger. i'm 4'10" tall and unlike putting my foot on the brake, i have to stretch to reach the accelerator - so there is no mistaking the two. this was the first time we had ever experienced a lurching action in our fusion. we had experienced this action in our freestyle and have managed to solve the problem in that vehicle, but this was the first and last time time it happened in the fusion. the previous owner mentioned a rare transmission "hiccup" his mechanic could never find. we had been driving the fusion since october 2016 and it drove beautifully.
Takata recall. the recall date for the airbag recall was june 2016 and it has now been nearly a year and ford still has "no remedy" for this recall. this is extremely dangerous in the case of an accident. in addition, i was not notified of this recall or the electronic throttle body issue that my car also has but now is past the "extended warranty" and they will not fix for free, despite me having made a complaint about it in the past. last week, i was on the freeway traveling at 70 mph, my car suddenly stopped accelerating and slowed down rapidly. i had been lucky no one was closely following behind me and i was in the right lane and quickly could pull over or i could have been hit from behind at a very fast speed because of the etb failing. i have never been notified of any of the safety issues that my car has. ford has failed to notify me and i feel that because they did not send me anything, even though they have my address and email, they put me at risk of an accident that could have led to serious injuries.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while the vehicle was stopped at a traffic light, the wrench warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle did not accelerate. the vehicle was idling. when the contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, it resumed normal operation. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed replacement. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the manufacturer stated that the vehicle did not qualify for the warranty extension. the approximate failure mileage was 39,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving approximately 75 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate and the throttle body warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 245,000. the vin was not available.
This instance vehicle going steady 35mph and started revving rpm's up like it was going to shift into another gear, it then slammed and jerked the car and started the revving again. stopped at a stop light and turned left, while turning and hitting accelerator the car did not want to move and started revving again and then slammed and jerked almost making the person behind me rear end me. previous instance was a steady 75 mph on the flat highway and the same revving and slam/jerking had happened. 5th time it's done it this year alone. 13 times since 2011. this instance the orange wrench light came on the dash. car is at dealership to get looked at. this is very unsafe especially since it is erratic and does it at any time it feels like. this car is not safe to have my family in. *tr
My vehicle has the tendency of reducing acceleration, when you are driving at a speed of 35 or above the car will slow down and almost come to a complete stop. if you are in the fast lane and your car will not accelerate what can you do if there is lots of traffic behind you, this will definitely cause an accident because you have no where to go and cars are right up on you. this is an accident waiting to happen. this problem has happened to me 4 times when i was on just the streets and not the highway, i was going 45 mph and all of a sudden my car loses speed and it went all the way down and no matter how much i tried to accelerate it would not go any faster, so i coasted over to the side of the road and turned the engine off and called my son to meet me because i didn't know if it would start again. it did but the engine light stayed on. i started driving it again and it did the same thing. i got a little closer to home and pulled over to this exxon gas station; sit there until my son came and he started it again and he followed me home. a few days later it did it again; it has done this 4 times even this morning on my way to the ford dealership whom i thought was going to fix the problem but wanted me to pay them $115 out of pocket for a diagnostic that i should not be paying anything that is their mistake or mess up. i will see if i can round up enough complaints for a class action lawsuit, because why would i have to pay for something that's their fault when the car was built.
Several months ago, in the middle of a busy intersection, my car unexpectedly shook and went to "limp" mode in the middle of a busy intersection with the wrench light coming on. i pulled into the closest driveway after putting on my hazards and, after turning off the engine, restarted the car, which took about about 5 seconds of trying to turn over the ignition. since that time, the same problem has happened at least two dozen times, sometimes several times in a row; and the rest of the time, the rpms flutter in an irregular way. i do mostly city driving and have thankfully been able to avoid an accident when having to pull over and restart; but in each case, it is not a good situation. by all accounts online, this is a very frequent problem and due to a faulty throttle body. notably, the problem with my car began to occur at around 45,000 miles, which is typical from what i've read of other complaints. this seems much too early, much too common, and much too dangerous of a problem for it not to be covered under an extended warranty or recall. there was, in fact, an extended warranty, but it expired in early 2015. i was told by the local dealer that it would cost $600 to repair.
Takata recall- my car stalls and doesnt turn all the way. if i slow down or stop the car will give out i got a diagnostic done three times and three different things came up and i got all the fix but it still do the same thing i see other people that have the same car have the same problem i was on the expressway when this did this this is very dangerous
On 6/2/15 while driving on freeway at 70 mph, car started shaking, speed dropped, couldn't accelerate. i was able to get car to side of road. shut car off. after few minutes started car and was able to drive it at 25 mph to get it off fwy but was operating in low power mode. drove it to dealer in low power mode. throttle body was replaced and covered under ford recall. now on 8/19/16 the same thing happened to me on way to work. again had my husband follow me to dealer in low power mode. dealer could not diagnose problem because car was not having problem by the time they got around to it. they couldn't duplicate problem so nothing they could do. this is the same thing that happened to me 1 year ago so i feel it is related to the throttle body which they replaced under fords recall, but they insist it is not the throttle body. this is a very serious safety issue which ford knows about it because there are hundreds of complaints online for this issue. does someone have to be seriously hurt for them to do something about this. i have never in my life had this happen with any other cars i have owned over the years.
While driving, the vehicle will stall, the orange wrench comes on on the dash board. the car will remain running while idling roughly. after restarting the car a few times it will start and appear fine with no symptoms and no check engine lights on. however, the car will do the exact same thing randomly, it might be the next day or an hour from then. i checked the code while the orange wrench light was on and got a p2111 code (throttle actuator control system). called ford to have them repair it since it is under warranty, and i was told that since the orange wrench light isn't on right this moment, that they will have to try test driving it longer to get it to act up before ford will allow them to replace it. the vehicle is at the dealership now.
Service engine light remained on along with throttle wrench light...car shaking little power....pulled over ,restart car lights still on , slow drive and shaky ride home..
Sudden stalling or acceleration. engine light comes on and off depending on how many times i start the car. my car stalled out and died i waited five minutes and restarted it and it seemed fine. this has happened twice. now my car suddenly stalls and i have no control on the throttle. when i give it gas it just creeps along. limp home mode. i was in otion on a city street and barely had enough control to get over on a side street safely with my child in the car.
My son was driving on the interstate when all of a sudden the car lost power and he could not accelerate. he had to cross lanes to pull over to the shoulder. turned the car off and then restarted. car ran okay. i called ford after this happened twice. they informed me that the car was over the mileage allowed and was not covered. they said they sent out a csp#13n03. i did not receive this letter. i think that this should be a safety recall and not just a bulletin. he almost got hit both times when this happened.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while the vehicle was stopped at an intersection, it lost power while attempting to accelerate. the vehicle rolled as if it were shifted into neutral. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body assembly failed and needed to replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 70,180.
Will approaching a stop light on goddard and fort st. car accelerated while my foot was on the brake started across fort st against red light while i wash playing dodgem card only way to stop car was to slam it in park and turn it off this is the second time this has happened the first time i started car and motor racing turned off to stop.

I was affected by the throttle body thing. i got it fixed at jim click ford in tucson. i've been experiencing heavy acceleration and throttle response problems since. i had my trams fluid leak from the cap. no leaks in any of my hoses. my rpms stay between 1700-2700 regardless of what speed i'm going. i took it back to jim click, even tho showing no errors. and it's always whining, my engine. i don't know what's causing this, but i definitely take care of my car. and fusions been having a lot of problems. and people tell my my car makes really loud noise when turning. i've never heard it or felt it, but i've been told by multiple people.
While driving, the car will suddenly lose all acceleration and the maintenance wrench light will come on. this has happened while accelerating from a stop, and while going 60 mph down the highway. the only way to reset it is to restart the car. if the car is not restarted, it will shake vigorously as if it is going to stall on its own. once restarted, acceleration is restored to normal until it does the same thing again.
I was driving my car, and with no warning the orange wrench appears and loss of acceleration occurs. had to pull over and restart the car. this happened 3 times today and could have potentially caused an accident each time. there is apparently a throttle recall, but does not include my 2010 ford fusion. not sure what i need to do.
While driving the instrument panel lights up with an organge wrench and check engine light. i am unable to accelerate and need to get off the road as quickly as possible.when i press on the gas pedal nothing happens. it sounds and appears like the car is about to stall.this has happened at least 8 times in the last week.i had the car towed to my mechanic who told me it is the trottle body and that a ford dealer would fix it. i dropped it off only to pick it up 2 days later and they told me nothing was found. since it didnt occur while they were driving it they would not replace the part. i have no other option but to continue to drive the car as i am a single mother with no other means for transporation and the mechanics at the ford dealership told me it was "safe." the car engine stops responding at high speeds.. how is that safe?! updated 9/21/15 *ln
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving 45 mph, the vehicle lost power, jerked, and hesitated before accelerating. in addition, the vehicle stalled. the contact was not able to restart the vehicle. the service vehicle soon and security lock warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the battery needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was towed to a dealer who diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 65,801.
While driving down the freeway at approx 70mph in heavy traffic, the vehicle made a slight jerk, and lost propulsion. i had to cross several lanes of traffic off to the edge of the road. there was no response to pressing on the gas pedal. once stopped and in park, the engine idled very roughly, shaking the entire car. i turned off the engine, waited about a minute, and re-started the car. it had to crank for a few seconds before turning over and starting. it then drove fine for about another 10 miles before quitting again. i again stopped, then restarted the car, and limped it home on side roads, off the freeway. it did not drive smoothly, but made it the other 15 miles home without quitting again. i took the car to an independent mechanic, who researched and found a known problem with the throttle body, causing these exact symptoms, and has referred me to a ford garage for an in-warranty repair. the appointment for that is tomorrow.
2010 ford fusion. consumer writes in regards to vehicle electronic throttle body recall repairs. *smd the consumer stated her son's vehicle broke down and had to be towed. the problem, was with a part that had been recalled. the consumer stated she never received any information regarding a recall. *jb
The night we bought this car, used from a ford dealer, it wouldn't go in reverse without jumping/bucking. they were swift to give us a loaner while they "reprogramemd" the car. now, it all makes sense. they put a bandaid on it until we couldn't return it. since then, just over 2yrs ago, we have had throttle replaced x3, cleaned once for $250 (while on the way south for vaca, we got stuck hundreds of miles from hm until ford dealer opened 2 days later.) this car has stranded us three diff times while out of state on vaca. now while on interstate, the wrench light will go on, the car starts bucking and acting like a manual in the wrong gear. but, has no acceleration. just revs to 4k-6k rpms. dangerous almost being run over by semis going full speed behind you or having to try and cross 5 lanes of traffic to get to emergency lane--with no acceleration! this car is a dangerous death trap. shocking to me how ford hasn't stood behind their vehicles. we, as a huge extended family, have always stood behind ford. always bought ford. now, we have been duped by them. they knowingly sold us a faulty car, putting thousands of other buyers in danger as well, and haven't done a thing to prove to the consumers that they care about us as customers or one iota about our lives. if ford doesn't recall these, i know we will see deaths from it. its prob going to be the next automotive world scandel like the airbags. our fusion is an expensive piece of metal, with a huge pymt, just sitting in our driveway useless. somehow, we have to figure a way to save thousands for a transmission on a 6yr old car. never thought ford would turn out to treat their loyal customers this way.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving at approximately 60 mph, the check engine light illuminated intermittently. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the computer reflash needed to be repaired. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be repaired. the contact returned to the dealer with the diagnosis, but the technician refused to repair the vehicle. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 75,363. updated 1/15/16 *cn
The car would not accelerate beyond 5. - 10 mph, while in motion, no matter how far the accelerater was depressed. it was driven to the closest repair shop and we were to,d it was the throttle body. the repair has worked to date.
Driving on the freeway, wrench indicator came on and my car started loosing speed. pulled over to the side turned off the car and waited about a minute. turned it back on and everything was working fine and wrench icon was gone. this happened twice in the last 4 days.
Tl* the contact owned a 2010 ford fusion. while at a complete stop, the vehicle accelerated without warning and caused the contact to crash into a flag pole. a police report was not filed and no injuries were reported. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. the vehicle was destroyed. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
Driving down the high way and my car lost all accelerating capability and almost caused a serious accident. my car was previously taken in three months ago because it was stalling but i was told by ford without any check engine light they couldn't do anything. i even did some online research before i went to ford and suggested the throttle body position sensor and they said it wouldn't cause my car to do that.
I tapped the gas after i stopped at a stop sign & the car revved really high but didn't go anywhere. then the 2nd time i was on the highway the car revved really high again & again went really slow, like something wasn't catching. i'm glad the highway was empty because i could've caused an accident
Car had sudden deceleration, loss of power, waited about 30 seconds and tried to restart. car restarted and parked due to safety concerns. did some research to find that nhtsb is failing to issue recall but ford has voluntarily agreed to fix and extend warranty. the dealer is playing dumb about it being throttle body issue even though it is supposed to be fixed free under ford csp# 13n03 and had the exact symptoms as described. this item should be recalled as it is a serious safety hazard on the vehicle. *tr
