2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Owners Manual - Maintenance Schedule

Maintenance Schedule

At Each Fuel Stop

Check the engine oil level. See

Engine Oil 0 343.

Once a Month

Check the tire inflation pressures. See Tire Pressure 0 392.
Inspect the tires for wear. See

Tire Inspection 0 399.

Check the windshield washer fluid level. See Washer Fluid 0 359.

When the CHANGE ENGINE OIL

SOON message displays, have the engine oil and filter changed within the next 1 000 km/600 mi. If driven under the best conditions, the engine oil life system may not indicate the need for vehicle service for up to a year. The engine oil and

filter must be changed at least once a year and the oil life system must be reset. Your trained dealer technician can perform this work.

If the engine oil life system is reset accidentally, service the vehicle within 5 000 km/3,000 mi since the last service. Reset the oil life system when the oil is changed.

See Engine Oil Life System 0 346.

The passenger compartment air filter removes dust, pollen, and other airborne irritants from outside air that is pulled into the vehicle.

The filter should be replaced as part of routine scheduled maintenance. Inspect the passenger compartment air filter every 36 000 km/

22,500 miles or two years, whichever comes first. Replace if necessary. More frequent replacement may be needed if the vehicle is driven in areas with heavy traffic, areas with poor air quality,

or areas with high dust levels.

Replacement may also be needed if there is a reduction in air flow, excessive window fogging, or odors.

7,500 mi

Rotate the tires, if recommended for the vehicle, and perform the following services. See Tire Rotation 0 400.

Check engine oil level and oil life percentage. If needed, change engine oil and filter, and reset oil life system. See Engine Oil 0 343 and Engine Oil Life System 0 346.
    Check engine coolant level. See

Cooling System 0 352.

Check windshield washer fluid level. See Washer Fluid 0 359.
Visually inspect windshield wiper blades for wear, cracking,

or contamination. See Exterior Care 0 430. Replace worn or damaged wiper blades. See Wiper Blade Replacement

0 369.

    Check tire inflation pressures.

See Tire Pressure 0 392.

Inspect tire wear. See Tire Inspection 0 399.
    Visually check for fluid leaks.
Inspect engine air cleaner filter. See Engine Air Cleaner/Filter

0 351.

    Inspect brake system. See

Exterior Care 0 430.

Visually inspect steering, suspension, and chassis components for damaged, loose, or missing parts or signs of wear. See Exterior Care 0 430. Lubricate the suspension and steering components at least every other oil change.

(If equipped with grease fittings)

Check restraint system components. See Safety System Check 0 75.
Visually inspect fuel system for damage or leaks.
Visually inspect exhaust system and nearby heat shields for loose or damaged parts.
    Lubricate body components. See

Exterior Care 0 430.

Check starter switch. See Starter Switch Check 0 367.
Check automatic transmission shift lock control function. See Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Function Check 0 368.
Check ignition transmission lock. See Ignition Transmission Lock Check 0 368.
Check parking brake and automatic transmission park mechanism. See Park Brake and P (Park) Mechanism Check

0 368.

Check accelerator pedal for damage, high effort, or binding. Replace if needed.
Visually inspect gas strut for signs of wear, cracks, or other damage. Check the hold open ability of the strut. If the hold open is low, service the gas strut. See Gas Strut(s) 0 370.
Inspect sunroof track and seal, if equipped. See Sunroof 0 55.

Or every two years, whichever comes first. More frequent replacement may be needed if the vehicle is driven in areas with heavy traffic, poor air quality, areas with high dust levels or are sensitive to environmental allergens. Filter replacement may also be needed if you notice reduced airflow, windows fogging up, or odors. Your local GM Service location can help you determine when it is the right time to replace your filter.
Or every four years, whichever comes first. If driving in dusty conditions, inspect the filter at each oil change or more often as needed.
Visually check all fuel and vapor lines and hoses for proper attachment, connection, routing, and condition.
Do not directly power wash the transfer case and/or front/rear axle output seals. High pressure water can overcome the seals and contaminate the fluid. Contaminated fluid will decrease the life of the transfer case and/or drive axles and should be replaced.
Or every five years, whichever comes first. See Cooling System 0 352.
