Airbags and side airbags didn't deploy, steering locked up and wheel separated form axel
Per online reviews from recalls for 2011 malibu the power steering warning light flashed. this recall was not sent to me, however, my car is affected.
I was driving my car a few days ago on a city street and after i made a turn, the power steering service esc light came on as well as the traction control picture. my steering wheel got super stiff and it was extremely hard to turn it. after i pulled over and turned my car off, i turned it back on and everything went back to normal. there is a recall for this but i checked on the gm recall website and put in my vin but my car is not included in the recall which doesn't seem to make much sense if other 2012 chevrolet malibu's have been recalled because of this.
My vehicle is having exact symptoms as other vehicles in the same year range with the exact engine size and power train. i have a 4 - cyl eco tec engine and i have found that gm recalled lots of units for this exact problem yet mine is not in the database. my electroinc steering shuts on and off all winter!
My esc comes on with traction emblem and power steering light. i then lose all power steering while in motion.
Service eas warning light comes on. then the rear brake lights stay on. the service power steering warning light comes on & the car is very hard to control & nearly impossible to steer. this is extremely dangerous & unsafe.
While driving the vehicle, (vehicle in motion), i suddenly lose power steering and the ability to control the vehicle safely. in some instances it has happened while attempting to make a turn or while on the highway as the highway comes to a bend. while at a stop sign/light, the steering wheel will begin to rattle or shake and makes noise.. this problem started approximately one month ago but has become more frequent this past week. at times if i pull over and turn the vehicle off for a short time then restart it, power steering is restored but sometimes only for a short period of time and then it goes out again. this has happened several times in one day. i have read that vehicles, same make and model, have been recalled for this 'safety' issue but i have not received any notices regarding getting this issue fixed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated while reversing out of a driveway, the steering wheel became very tight and difficult to maneuver the vehicle. the contact attempted to continue to drive the vehicle and the power steering warning light illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed. the dealer was not notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 136,000.
My vehicle has lost steering after starting several times over the last week. my info screen displays an esc and power steering message and my steering wheel is locked in place. once the car is shut off and restarted the messages go away and steering is back to normal. i have found a recall related to this on certain vehicles of my year/make/model and also many forums of people having the same issues. however, when searching by vin it says my vehicle has 0 recalls. i have also noticed when my vehicle is stopped, or in park my steering wheel will shake for a moment and then stop.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevy malibu maxx. the contact stated while his wife was stopped at a traffic light, the steering wheel unexpectedly started moving left to right without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the as loss of electric power steering. the contact referenced the failure to nhtsa campaign number: 14v153000 (steering). however the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacture was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 109,000.
The electric power steering suddenly stopped working, and i was in danger of crashing the vehicle. the chevy dealership says its a problem with the steering column torque sensor, and that gm had a million car recall on this issue. however, they stated this safety concern had an expiration date and for my vehicle, it expired may 2019. it appears to be having exactly the same symptoms, with the same dangerous consequences, as those recalled vehicles, and yet gm will not take responsibility for this safety matter. this condition occurred intermittently, and then all of the time. it occurs when in reverse, and forward gears, when turning and when traveling straight. it occurs at all speeds. again, the gm mechanics state the problem is the steering column torque sensor.
