Service eas warning light comes on. then the rear brake lights stay on. the service power steering warning light comes on & the car is very hard to control & nearly impossible to steer. this is extremely dangerous & unsafe.
While driving the vehicle, (vehicle in motion), i suddenly lose power steering and the ability to control the vehicle safely. in some instances it has happened while attempting to make a turn or while on the highway as the highway comes to a bend. while at a stop sign/light, the steering wheel will begin to rattle or shake and makes noise.. this problem started approximately one month ago but has become more frequent this past week. at times if i pull over and turn the vehicle off for a short time then restart it, power steering is restored but sometimes only for a short period of time and then it goes out again. this has happened several times in one day. i have read that vehicles, same make and model, have been recalled for this 'safety' issue but i have not received any notices regarding getting this issue fixed.
Power steering keeps going in and out. cant drive car very far at all. while driving.

For about 3 days i have been starting my car and receiving a message saying power steering esc we checked the fluids and their was power steering fluid in the car so i started it again and got the same message. i would have to start it at least 4 or 5 times for my car to reset and so i can drive it. i've never had this problem before yesterday while driving i lost control of my power steering on a main highway and my car cut completely off . i could of been dies and this is very dangerous i contacted the gm dealership and they spoke to me as if it wasn't a big deal which i feel this is a very deal considering my daughter could have been i. the car with me. i see all the recalls for the same thing happening but they pulled up mine and said their is no recall for my car . it makes no since and i need answers
Driving and power steering icon and alert comes on with total loss of power steering. as with others complaints this is very scary when driving and hard to steer. this is a risk and hazard to those driving and their passengers. there needs to be something done or lawsuits will be filed as this is a repetitive issue in these vehicles. recall!!! this is ridiculous chevy.
Whenever the car starts, the service esc lights come on and stay on. steering wheel is very hard to turn and won't turn unless the car is in motion thus causing me to wrestle with the steering wheel to make a right or left turn. every mechanic i've seen told me to trade it in because the repairs are quite expensive. they mentioned something about replacing the entire steering column. they also couldn't service the power steering because it's strictly electronic. this is not safe for me or my family because who knows when it will lock up for good while i'm driving. this has been going on for the past month. please help me
Upon driving the car the esc light and power steering light will come on and care will have no power steering.steering wheel also moves on it's on and makes sounds inside the column. very dangerous for my wife to have to drive and drop off the kids at school.nothing but problems out of the car since we purchased it 3 years ago.
Loss of power steering. this is a known problem affecting 2004 to 2010 chevy malibus. a recall has been issued for this vehicle up to 2008 model and yet my 2010 has the same problem. this is a very expensive repair and i would like to know why the 2009 and 2010 models were not included in this recall
My power steering has just stopped working. i can barely turn my car, i have a baby and my other children in the car with me and this is dangerous. i really need this fixed. i was traveling on the highway to my brothers house when it just stopped turning correctly.
Was driving on a city street approaching an s bend going down hill with a steep embankment when the power steering failed. power steering esc lights went activated. i almost went over the embankment before being able to forcefully turn the wheel and continued to the bottom of the hill and off to the side of the road. i was close to home so i was able to drive the car home. i called for a tow truck driver. when he arrived the power steering was fine no power steering messages. he was aware of previous recalls but this vehicle has no active recall even though it is the exact problem covered by same year make and model.
Accelerating from a stop sign to turn left out of parking lot onto short street when power steering stopped working, traction light illuminated on dash and service esc came on screen as well.
I was leaving a parking area when my steering wheel was immediately locked with the ecm "power steering." i turned off and on my vehicle and the steering wheel became usable again. thank goodness i was driving with zero vehicles nearby. this premature loss of steering control is a crash risk.
I was driving and i noticed a decline in power from the motor. then the dash start reading reduced engine power and esc and service traction control.

Sometimes when i am driving or turning the car on, my power steering indication light comes on and the power steering goes completely out. once i cut the car off and back on, it will start working normal again. my steering wheel shakes when idling and makes a ticking noise. it says a recall similar to my issue was already repaired on the vehicle but i do not believe it was properly fixed.
Car noted power steering on the dash. went to all local machanics for them to say that it's a fuse that noone carries. every since i owned my malibu it has been random things that i as a buyer think chevy should have fixed. the rear tail light for example 6 out of 10 malibu third brake light is out why? it's a costly fix. but this with the steering is out of the blue and looks as if i'm not the only one looking at these youtube videos they are an issue.. thanks for your time
Vehicle was in motion when power steering started shaking left to right but there were no warnings on the dash about power steering malfunctions. tires are new and at the proper air settings.
4 cylinder with electric power steering is not part of the recall..i'm having problems with the power steering completely going out while driving in motion and parking .....also the traction control lights constantly stays on

I have replaced my passenger headlights several times and blub keeps blowing out. i am tired of replacing it and very costly because of the labor it takes to replace it. all of sudden my power steering went out. i was pulling out of a parking stall and lost control of the car. i was able to put it back in drive to get the car out of the way. when i turned it off and restarted the car it drove normal. this is very dangerous.
Eps going out while driving down the road
My steering is locking up and vibrating. if turning the steering and key at same time it starts back working.and my driver side headlight keeps going out. i've had the waiting harness changed and it still continue to not work.
Electric power steering stopped working on match 18, 2019. i was turning right onto busy 4 lane city street from a parking lot, speed < 5 mph. could not turn into right lane, struggled to swing car into left lane w/o crossing median. it was not simply a loss of power steering. i've driven old cars that never had power steering and this was 10 times more difficult to steer. i think i strained a muscle in my shoulder. turning did not get easier as i accelerated, eventually to abt 40 mph. struggled through 3 more hair raising turns (all turns made) before parking it at home. the esc/tcs indicator came on in the parking lot and stayed on. error msgs displayed were power steering, service esc, service air bag. i heard no chimes. we gave my daughter this used car in 2015. she had complained a couple of weeks prior that steering sometimes became difficult. a search by vin shows no incomplete recalls. it would be extremely useful to know if this car was part of a recall(s) and then repaired. if it was, it was repaired incorrectly, not all problems were resolved, or the parts used have a short life span. if gm isn't covering this situation, that's a crime. also, if not covered by gm i'll take it to our regular mechanic since his work is more reliable than the local dealership's. if my baby had been hurt in this death trap, heads would've rolled - metamorphically of course. i'll also be consulting a lawyer.
Power steering has gone out in the car, getting esc repair light and power steering lights on the console. extremely difficult to turn, especially at low speeds. occured while driving in the city.
I was driving when all of a sudden the steering went out. it says esc and power steering on my dash.
Hard turning steering wheel steering wheel shakes
Takata recall my car made a hum sound while accelerating when i just got in it on my 2 minute journey home. while going straight, the car no longer continued to accelerate and stopped on the street. after restarting the car, the engine light turned on and would still not move in any gear.
Driving home from work about 30mph and all of a sudden the car looses power and eco assist shuts off, with traction control, traction assist, and power steering . this seems like a safety issue as i couldn't pull off to the side of the road due to these issues and the car would only go 10 mph!! i see other have complained about this issue in nys and nothings been done or when we go to the dealership they just clear the codes and say nothings wrong! this is an issue as if someone was behind me they would of hit me as when these light came on the dash with the check engine light the car went from 30mph down to 10 mph and the car ran rough and slow . please do something with this issue as alot of people complaining !
While driving on city streets my steering would go out and it felt like i had no control of the steering. once i try to break the steering feels really out of control. i take it to the dealership and they put it on the diagnostic machine and find nothing. this has happened 3 times with the most recent 3 weeks ago. then it drives fine. fyi my ecm light would come on and i would take it to the dealership and they would just reset the computer and say it was a malfunction because they couldn't find anything wrong. three weeks ago when this happened i was close to a repair shop and they informed me there wa a recall on certain 2010 models and of course not mine and it's happening to me and it is very frightening.
While driving down the road, the cluster panel starts showing warning lights for the steering, service esc, and the mil light was on, the car lost power, lost power steering and had no power, no matter what i did, the car would not respond. this putting my family and me in danger, we were driving on the idl in tulsa oklahoma at rush hour, very, very busy road at that time of day. i have researched the problem, this is a very serious issue that will end up getting someone killed. the car is completely unstable, erratic and very hard to drive, you lose power (no acceleration) and power steering. the car has 142,000 miles on it, that seems to be when it happening to other vehicles also.
Vehicle suddenly powered down to 10 mph, shook violently and sputtered. engine light, traction control light and service esc message across dash. this left me stranded at midnight, pregnant while in route to see dying grandfather. in order to get home approx 60 miles away, had to remove battery terminal for a reset. dealer could not fix due to reset alas code was cleared. did not experience this issue again until out of warranty almost one year later. slowly got to dealer. needs new throttle body. initially dealer claimed servicing would be covered due to tsb and extended warranty for issue; however, after diagnosis dealer denied any special coverages existed for this issue. apparantly a $600 fix, denied service and replaced ourselves for $185 part.
While driving 50mph on a state highway, power steering failed. service esc and power steering alerts displayed 2/19/19. dealer identified steering wheel torque sensor and steering wheel position sensor out of calibration. technician re-calibrated sensors. approximately 2 hours after picking up the vehicle 2/20/19 the power steering failed again. this is a serious safety issue that has the potential of serious bodily harm.
Lost steering power while trying to park car. steering would not turn was very hard to turn the wheel manually. also now told - my steering column now need to be replaced. was parking in front of the home in city, putting car in reverse and then moving forward.
While driving, the power steering failed and it was extremely difficult to turn the wheel at approxmatly 50 mph. contacted gm about this issue, since similar models of the same year, with different vin numbers, have been recalled for this same exact issue and they refused to consider repairing the vehicle, just because my vin number was not included in the recall, but the same faulty parts are in the car.
When i turn my car on, a message pops up saying "power steering" and my steering wheel locks up (car is stationary at the time since i'm turning it on). i am unable to turn the steering wheel at all making my car undriveable. i have to turn my car on and off about 3-5 times before the steering wheel "unlocks" itself and i'm able to move the steering wheel again. while i'm driving through the highway, city streets and also when my car is in parked the steering wheel seems to do some kind of glitching movement by tightening the steering wheel for about half a second, luckily it hasn't interfered with my driving (at least not yet). when the steering wheel glitches there's a tighting feeling the steering wheel gets and shakes when it happens. each time it does that it last about half second or so, but it happens multiple times back to back so the whole thing last a few seconds. the "glitching/tightening" also happens when i'm stopped at a red light or stop sign, also the moment the steering wheel starts to glitch/tighten up i can feel something on the brake pedal as well. it feels as if the glitch runs through the steering wheel and down through the brake pedal. i haven't had any issues with my brakes yet. but this issue with my steering wheel is getting worse with each passing day the steering wheel tightens up more and more and while i'm driving those "glitches/tightening" are becoming more frequent and stronger too
Power steering. is going out 3 days after getting for my birthday feb salesman new it cuz he seen lights on dash but kept saying just drive it well my extra coverage warranty it does not cover crazy huh cuz i have been told2 times different mechanic that there was or should of been a recall. driving and power steering goes out it is scary..

Steering wheel is hard to turn and has a hesitation when turning
I lost power steering in car the rack and pinion steering and the electric power steering module failed on my car . this happened on the city street driving. this hff as not been included in the recall issues 14e044000 7/24/14 steering component , 14v252000 5/14/2014 electrical system warning.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the steering wheel would not move after the vehicle was started. the contact turned the vehicle off and on, and the power steering returned to normal. a failure code regarding the power steering illuminated on the instrument panel. tom kelley chevrolet buick (1313 s 13th st, decatur, in 46733, (260) 724-8525) stated that there was an unknown recall regarding the power steering, but the vehicle exceeded the 150,000 mile limit. the manufacturer was notified and also mentioned the mileage limitation. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 177,000. *tt *tr
I have service esc light (electronic stability control) and power steering lights that just recently came on in my 2010 chevy malibu. i have called gm and they refuse to fix the issue because it supposedly isn't under my vin number [xxx], even though my car is experiencing the same issue as listed in the recalls. i have visited numerous sites from people who have 2010 malibu's and have had the same issue with them refusing to fix the issue because it again supposedly wasn't listed under their vin. i will be getting a lawyer and if my car causes me to get into an accident i have given all information to go forward with a lawsuit. this is absolutely unacceptable and i will never buy another car from gm!!!!!!!! now i have to pay out of pocket and i have no idea what it will cost me!!!! i don't know why i am even bothering to write this complaint because nothing will be done!!! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Driving to work and out of nowhere dash starts dinging and flashes 'service esc' the. 'power steering' and steering gets stiff (no power steering). luckily it was just me in the car and not with my 3 and 5 year old and also not on highway when it happened. my car has 157k miles and just found out that there was a gm extended coverage on it up to 150k miles for this particular issue and was not aware. i'm over the 150k miles now so i'm stuck with the repair but thankfully no one was hurt. this is a major safety issue gm!!
