Problems with 2010 Chevrolet Malibu ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

2010 chevy malibu has had constant issues with low beam light bulbs either burning out, harness wire issues, or bulbs working intermittent, i have paid to have bulbs replaced, harnesses replaced, and each time the fix will work for a few weeks or months. the last time the harnesses were replace was probably a year or two ago, but i am having the issues again. driving with a headlight out is illegal and gm is well aware of all of these issues and needs to issue a recall to found the root cause of all of these electric issues and fix the issue properly. prior this car had issues with the brake lights not working properly and that issue got resolved by a recall. gm needs to do a full inspection on the wiring and see what is causing the shorts, the fuses to blow, and worst of all the dangers of having exterior lights not to work properly. this is a huge risk and could result in a deadly accident if not researched and resolved properly

Power steering keeps going in and out. cant drive car very far at all. while driving.

I dropped my 2010 malibu ([xxx]) off at matick chevy on 1/10/2020. i called 1/11/2020 and was told there was no charge and it was ready for pick up. that's all i was told. i didn't make it home before the same problem occurred: service traction error light on the dash board and all 3 brake lights are on - when no one is pressing on the brake. the car is in the garage and all 3 brake lights are on - no one is in the vehicle...i'm driving down the highway and all 3 brake lights are on - i'm not braking. this is a serious safety concern. today is 1/19/2020 and i still don't have my vehicle and have not received a call - despite leaving a message for the service [xxx], on 1/16/19. he advised that this vehicle is covered under a special warranty program or policy - 150,000 miles or the year 2025?. the vehicle is 10 years old - dealerships don't fix anything for free, so that "special program" is indicative of the company taking responsibility and knowing that you have a problem with this vehicle. i have owned gm products all my life and for the first time do not know if my loyalty to the manufacturer or brand will continue. i am very disappointed in the way this situation has been handled. the vehicle have been serviced for this same problem twice previously. the only saving grace is that i demanded a loaner. please help. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

For about 3 days i have been starting my car and receiving a message saying power steering esc we checked the fluids and their was power steering fluid in the car so i started it again and got the same message. i would have to start it at least 4 or 5 times for my car to reset and so i can drive it. i've never had this problem before yesterday while driving i lost control of my power steering on a main highway and my car cut completely off . i could of been dies and this is very dangerous i contacted the gm dealership and they spoke to me as if it wasn't a big deal which i feel this is a very deal considering my daughter could have been i. the car with me. i see all the recalls for the same thing happening but they pulled up mine and said their is no recall for my car . it makes no since and i need answers

Both low beam headlights just quit working but the fuses are good and the headlights aren't a month old.

The brake lights come on at any given time even when you aren't pressing on the brake pedal. when you press on the brake pedal sometimes the brake lights do not come on at all. i have replaced wheel hub/bearing combos, along with adding electrical grease to the connector for the light controls, nothing fixes this issue.

Electronic stability control esc light comes on and says service then esc off. this is a safety issue with these cars. seat belts fail. safety issue. and our will not start because the anti theft system is activated for no reason. all of these are consistent with several other complaints. gm should be ashamed for selling vehicles that fail. approximately 78,000 miles. hopefully they will step up and correct these problems!!

Driving down the road my driver side tail light/brake light stops working randomly with bumpy roads. it goes out and will go back on usually within the next few bumps, and its not all the time.

My low beam lights keep going out. i have changed the bulbs 4 times now with oem bulbs and also the wiring harness. at first it was the driver's side only now it's both.

4 cylinder with electric power steering is not part of the recall..i'm having problems with the power steering completely going out while driving in motion and parking .....also the traction control lights constantly stays on

I was stopped,went to accelerate,and sudden hard shift as it accelerated. after a few miles,lost all gears after 2nd gear.on interstate at time when lost gears & close to getting into major accident. took it to asc certified mechanic to learn that the transmission failed,wiring from battery to started burned up,battery failurem alternator failed, and ecm failed as well. repair cost approx $4600.00. service airbag light & check engine light on also & p0013 code. looked up veh history, shows recalls on some of this were supposedly performed, but hard to believe. 6 speed transmission, so gm won't honor.

The door lock gets stuck. the doors will lock by themselves. if you are in the car when this happens you will get stuck in your car for hours or you will have to crawl threw the window to get out. you can use the key to unlock the door, the lock does show in the "upright" position showing that it is unlocked, but the latch in the door does not unhook. this has happened about a half a dozen times in the last year, you never know when its going to happen either making this awful situation even worse.

I have an issue with the passenger side low beam headlight. i keeps burning out. i have replaced twice within a month period. now i have to replace the wiring harness. please recall i'm tired of taking the whole bumper off to replace a bulb.

Brake light constantly fluctuating without the brake being pressed, very dangerous for me and my child, headlights constantly going out specifically the front passenger side, almost go cause an accident and people thing i'm the one pressing the brakes, it does this when driving or when it parked, if i tap the brake it'll go off for a few second then come right back on. also car keep throwing a code saying it's running rich even tho i can locate the problem i believe it has something to do with a senseor or wiring or the fuel injector, if there are any recalls for this vehicle i would lie for them to be fix all at once because i have to use this card daily for myself and my daughter and i just want it to be safe for my child and i as well as other drivers in the road.

The esc light comes on and tells me it needs serviced. when this happens the brake lights stay on even if my foot is not on the brake. it also has a problem with the gear shift when trying to pull it out of park. this also disables my cruise control. this issue happens sometimes as soon as i start the car or after driving for a bit. i've taken the car in to get the problem fixed. they replaced the brake sensor and that worked for a week then the esc light came back on and the brake lights stayed on.

I have replaced my passenger headlights several times and blub keeps blowing out. i am tired of replacing it and very costly because of the labor it takes to replace it. all of sudden my power steering went out. i was pulling out of a parking stall and lost control of the car. i was able to put it back in drive to get the car out of the way. when i turned it off and restarted the car it drove normal. this is very dangerous.

Electric power steering stopped working on match 18, 2019. i was turning right onto busy 4 lane city street from a parking lot, speed < 5 mph. could not turn into right lane, struggled to swing car into left lane w/o crossing median. it was not simply a loss of power steering. i've driven old cars that never had power steering and this was 10 times more difficult to steer. i think i strained a muscle in my shoulder. turning did not get easier as i accelerated, eventually to abt 40 mph. struggled through 3 more hair raising turns (all turns made) before parking it at home. the esc/tcs indicator came on in the parking lot and stayed on. error msgs displayed were power steering, service esc, service air bag. i heard no chimes. we gave my daughter this used car in 2015. she had complained a couple of weeks prior that steering sometimes became difficult. a search by vin shows no incomplete recalls. it would be extremely useful to know if this car was part of a recall(s) and then repaired. if it was, it was repaired incorrectly, not all problems were resolved, or the parts used have a short life span. if gm isn't covering this situation, that's a crime. also, if not covered by gm i'll take it to our regular mechanic since his work is more reliable than the local dealership's. if my baby had been hurt in this death trap, heads would've rolled - metamorphically of course. i'll also be consulting a lawyer.

I was driving when all of a sudden the steering went out. it says esc and power steering on my dash.

On the highway going 65 mph, the engine shut off without warning but the battery/electronics were still on. i safely stopped the car on the side of the road. the check engine + abs + traction control lights came on simultaneously. the car would not start. i finally had to call a tow company. no mechanic knows how to fix it. upon further research, many owners of the same make model and model year range suffered similar situations. the car still won't start till now.

Brake lamp recall for these models do not work. i noticed the issue recently while driving home from work at around 55 mph at night. my brake lights are on, while my foot is off of the brake pedal. when i place my foot on the brakes, the brake lights go off. this is a serious driving hazard. i've taken the car to get the recall handled, but noticed this morning, that my brake lights are still illuminating when my foot is off the brake pedal.

There is a problem with the fuse box located in the trunk. my car has completely lost engine power while driving on multiple occasions. fuel pump, alternator, and battery have needed replaced. there is a short in or near this rear fuse box. fuel pump relay has been replaced, and connections greased. temporarily fixed, then a few days later shuts off while running. from researching, this appears to be extremely common with this model across multiple years, with the wire leading to the fuel pump relay burning up and shorting. clearly poor wiring. at least three times my car has completely shut down while in motion with no warning at all. multiple crank/no start situations as well. my next option is to replace the entire fuse block, but that will not fix wiring design. have been towed multiple times in a short period of time.

I have been having trouble with the electric power steering in my 2010 malibu. it happens while i am driving and i cannot move my vehicle at all. i have to place my hazards on in the middle of any type of roadway and shut my vehicle off and turn it back on. sometimes the problem continues, of i'm lucky it'll reset and not happen for a few days. this has happened more than 30 times now.

Door locks not working right , people inside vehicle unable to exit unless they climb out the windows as doors seem to unlock but wont open from inside or outside the vehicle . this is a issue because in the event of the crash you wouldn't be able to open the doors to escape . dealership says my car is fine but i have to climb in and out of the window each day for work .

Power steering. is going out 3 days after getting for my birthday feb salesman new it cuz he seen lights on dash but kept saying just drive it well my extra coverage warranty it does not cover crazy huh cuz i have been told2 times different mechanic that there was or should of been a recall. driving and power steering goes out it is scary..

I lost power steering in car the rack and pinion steering and the electric power steering module failed on my car . this happened on the city street driving. this hff as not been included in the recall issues 14e044000 7/24/14 steering component , 14v252000 5/14/2014 electrical system warning.

Driving to work and out of nowhere dash starts dinging and flashes 'service esc' the. 'power steering' and steering gets stiff (no power steering). luckily it was just me in the car and not with my 3 and 5 year old and also not on highway when it happened. my car has 157k miles and just found out that there was a gm extended coverage on it up to 150k miles for this particular issue and was not aware. i'm over the 150k miles now so i'm stuck with the repair but thankfully no one was hurt. this is a major safety issue gm!!

Bought in february 2018 93 k miles jan of 2019 with 124 k on it replaced front tires and brakes and rotors immediately got in to test drive steering had a violent twitch. took it to have steering sensor recalibrated .. got in car zero electric steering.. unhooked battery.. hooked back up steering extremely lose with even worse twitch twitch started in park while running and has progressed to a twitch all the time while running.. by twitch i mean a violent left to right vibration of the steering wheel

I've taken my car to get the driver side low beam light replaced 3 times in one year. come to find out the lights were not blowing out.. there is a shortage with the light plug. high beam is fine.. only the low beam keeps going out

I have been to many forums and many malibu owners are having the same issue i am with my car. a lot of money and many hours waisted on this issue. my right low beam head light keeps burning out. i changed the bulb, the entire headlight, and the wire harness, but the light keeps burning out. annoying issue! to be able to reach the headlight, you need to take off the front bumper. there is no other way around it. i also have my brake lights that come on by themselves. i can be driving with my foot off of the break and in my rear view i can see my break lights lit up. very unsafe. people think i am breaking when i am not. this is also an on going issues on malibu's made in and around 2010. please help!

The brake lights are engaged while driving the car and disengage when braking causing a serious safety hazard for not only he driver but others following behind. because the brake lights are on while driving following cars crash detection systems engage. this has been going on for quite awhile. it was "fixed" by a chevrolet dealership once already but it is back. huge concern for my 17 year old driving the car.

I bought my malibu in 2014. from ron marhofer chevrolet. not knowing there were recalls on my car when i bought it. in 2016, with 75k miles i was having troubles, brake lights were coming on when i accelerated the gas. got the recall fixed. now, at 102k miles and 2 years later, the brake lights are coming back on. my dealership told me since my warranty was up, i would have to pay a $99 diagnostic on top of labor. i wrote chevrolet last week and they denied this has anything to do with the recall because no one else has been complaining.. it's frustrating and such a scandal. i have an appt with my dealership next week to take a look. i feel this is going to be a costly matter, for something gm is trying go cover up. shame on you gm!

Passenger low beam headlight keeps going out. i have replaced it 3 times this year already. driving at night with 1 low beam working is dangerous.

The cars check engine light comes on and you loss your brakes and when you have it checked it puts up different codes every time it's checked and no matter what you change it keeps doing it and you take it to a dealer and they just want to change everything it says and charge you a arm and leg and it still does fix it

Headlight low beams continue to go out. not burning out but going out prematurely. have to be changed at least once a month.

The stop lamps come on all by themself, if the lamps are illuminated they will turn off when the brake pedal is pressed. this also affects the traction controls and stability control, the warning light illuminates on the instrument panel. also cruise control becomes inoperative. gm has acknowledged this and has an extended warranty for this problem. however they've capped it at 150,000 miles which puts me out of warranty. when i spoke to gm they admitted this and said because i wasn't the original owner i wouldn't be notified. they don't want to help!

While driving my car on the highway out of nowhere power engine reduced would come up on the dash and would not accelerate and transmission and traction warning lights would show on dash as well also power steering show on dash and the car jerk a little and the speedometer and fuel hand wouldn't move

My brake lights are illuminated when i do not push on the brake when i do push on the brake they disappear i can't put my cruise control on when this happens this happens while i'm driving it started happening about a month ago at a hundred and ninety-eight thousand miles but it would go away i was able to turn the car off and back on and it would be fine now it is like that at all times

The head light low beam keeps blowing something needs to be done it cost too much money to keep replacing and it is a very common complaint if u google it with the low beam head light keeps shorting out or whatever it's doing it's a safety issue and a it's a problem bc people can get pulled over and it's not fair too the people buy this cars and not knowing about this chevy needs too own up it's cost people alot of money that some people don't have to keep spending on there mistake and it could cause a fire and people have kids. *tt

Front passenger headlight has gone out again. this bulb has been replaced numerous times. in reviewing several different websites, this problem is reported repeatedly, even with comments of gm mechanic stating there is an issue with the harness but gm is not recalling it. i pray that a child never runs out into the street and gets hit by a car as a result of the driver not being able to see on the right hand side of their car because gm does not want to pay to fix this known issue with the harness and the constant complaints they are aware. .

I have change the lights on my wife's malibu 4 times in the past 2 years i believe there may be a problem or defected harness. after talking to other owners they have the same issues. the mechanic that replaced the light said he believes he changed several lights on malibu and they continue to go out. he believes chevy has an harness problem

Passenger side low beam headlight keeps going out. replaced bulb multiple times, 100/hr shop labor just to take off bumper to get to bulb. at this point a ticket would have been cheaper.

I have been noticing and been told my brake lights were on while driving down road and at times my cruise control would not function and it happens during day when i can't tell and at night which obviously is more apparent but not any less dangerous ...putting two together my brake lights would be coming on and when i press the pedal to slow down they go off...i bought this car used and after googling to find a fix i see there are many recalls and complaints regarding this issue with this year make and model...as it does not list my vin to be involved with any recalls it's concerning that the safety of my kids and i could be at risk. i cannot find any positive fix to the problem yet and see many people spent hundreds to thousands at dealerships only to find the problem not fixed...if there's any assistance information or go to's you can provide i would be greatly appreciated
