We have classified the 212 complaints from 2010 Chevrolet Malibu about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Driver side door could not be opened with manually from inside, or with the key or auto opener. driver had to exit over the counsel and out the passenger side. when i turned it into the dealership, i was told it was the actuator malfunction and that they would replace it. they didn't seem too concerned that this was a new issue and what i believe a serious safety issue, in addition i have had to take this vehicle six times to the dealership because of the "service air bag" indicator light keeps coming on. another safety issue that had a recall but was not fixed yet.
Air bag warning light illuminates when pressing hard on brake pad and when making turns. warning light in dash stays on the warning light may go off briefly when driving and it is required to brake hard, but illuminates again when brake is pressed. sometimes, it comes on during normal driving without braking. sometimes it comes on when the car is driven over a bump in the road. this malfunction makes it impossible to determine if air bags are actually engaged and will operate during a crash. the problem only increased after body control module (bcm) recall was fixed on the vehicle. it occurs every 1-2 days since the bcm was repaired. local chevrolet dealer has not been able to identify a problem and has not been willing to contact gm for information. extremely concerned for passenger safety.
Multiple error messages appearing in dashboard electrical burning smell with dash computer giving out random error messages stating service airbag and service engine soon burned out my battery. gear shift makes loud booming noise when putting in gear while driving car jolts and hesitates to shift gears. chevrolet dealership refuses to check the car diagnostic without charging per module. *tr
A/c has strong mold smell. smell is persistent even after a/c is not in use. had it serviced twice, but dealership only sprayed anti-mold spray to subdue smell. will need to go every month for this to be treated. dealership explained smell is due condenser's condensation not being collected malibu was designed not have a cabin filter. *tr
Brake lights engage when brake petal is not engaged and do not light when brake pedal is pressed. center brake light rarely works. electrical system in car seems to be short circuited as lights on console blink. esc continuously is turned off, engine light will not go off, low tire pressure indicated and it's a false read. transmission had to be replaced right after warranty expired. driver side window motor failed. all of this issues with exception of window have been happening from the time i purchased the car. i took it many times to dealer with no remedy
I keep getting a "service traction control" message when and only when i am sitting in the car in "park". also another issue is the car just dies as i turn the steering wheel to the left in a turn or on a curve. dealer says they cannot duplicate the issues. i call "[xxx] as i cannot stop the issue not only that but the dealer has charged me $300 plus for the repair? say what? information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

The dash board lights do not always come on when the car is first started and sometime they go off while driving. my son-in-law told me to pull over, shut off the motor, pump the foot feed 3 times and then restart the vehicle. that seems to work most of the time. but i should not have to do that. i have had the head lights go out at night when i hit a bump and then they came back on when i hit another bump. the cruise control does not always work. i received a notice that my taillights may not always work and to let them know if i have that problem. well hell i am driving the car not running along behind it!! do i have to wait until someone rear-end me to find out that they don't work? not sure what kind of airbags i have in this vehicle but with history of electrical problems that may also be an issue.these problems have existed from the time the car was new. i have had it in to different shops to have it checked out and every time they tell me they think it is fixed. i am just waiting for the next shoe to drop. is the competition for car makers so vicious that they need to rush production at the cost of customer safety to get vehicles out ahead of their competition? they continue to put more bells and whistles on these vehicles so they can charge us more up front and for continuous repairs. this is totally insane. give me back my '57 chevy. never had any of these safety issues with that honey!!!

When we drive this auto in the rain, or after going through a car wash, the car goes into the "limp" mode and the service lights come on and remain on until the car dries again. took it to the dealer the first time and was told that this is an inherent problem. we have had the car for 4 years and it still does that. we never drive it if we know it will be raining but am afraid that if we do drive it and it starts raining, that the car will just stop running. neither i nor the dealer knows what is getting wet and causing the problem but it should be investigated. i spoke with [xxx] at gm customer service this morning and she said she has had other calls complaining about this problem. she does not know if anyone is investigating it or not. she asked if i had notified nhtsa and i said i had not. she confirmed that it might be a good idea to do that. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
The theft system is hanging up in my 2001 chevy malibu and making it not start. i can be stuck without it starting day or night. i have had it to the dealer numerous times at $500 each. they keep saying that it is not a recall and has to be paid 4 by me. on the internet there are numerous complaints about the same thing. why r we responsible for this and it seems to b a constant problem? *tr
I bought a 2010 chevy malibu in november of 2010 and the car engine caught on fire in january of 2010. the vehicle was parked in my driveway while i was sleeping. at approximately 9 p.m. my neighbors awake me to notify me that my car was on fire. they had called 911 and the fire department had shown up shortly afterward. the fire came from the engine compartment. i notified american chevrolet in modesto, ca, where i had purchased the vehicle and they towed it to there dealership. since then i have not been given a definitive answer as to what the root cause of the fire was, and what is being done to replace my vehicle or reimburse me for my cost. i haven't been compensated either for my loss of transportation. my insurance first said that the problem lied with general motors, but due to the prolong period of time are now getting involved in paying the car, where i will come out loosing all my investment. fortunately, the car was parked outside, not inside my garage where the car would have gotten my new home on fires. i work graveyard and was asleep when the fire occurred. the fire department ruled that it look to be a defect. i don't understand why it would take a large corporation would take so long to resolve a serious problem such as this. *tr
