We have classified the 777 complaints from 2010 Ford Fusion about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
The cars throttle body light comes on shuts down car. i was getting on the express way going about 60 miles per hour when the car begins to shake and my car shuts down and luckily i was able to control the car to the shoulder. *tr
Incident # 1 - i was pulling away from a stop sign and noticed that my car had no power and it was just chugging so to speak, i pressed the gas petal to the floor and had no power. there was a side street close i chugged into this street. i waited a few minutes and it started as normal. incident #2 - three (3) day after above incident #1, i was pulling out of a restaurant parking lot onto a busy highway and my car totally lost power, there was another exit to the restaurant i chugged into that exit. i waited a few minutes and it started as normal. incident #3 - one (1) day after above incident #2, i was on an interstate highway, driving 55 mph and i heard the car power down and i had no power at all. i was in a lane without a shoulder, just a concrete divider. i chugged over to the small area between the highway and the concrete divider. i coasted on this area until i came to the end of the divider and i turned the key off and called my husband, we were once again able to start it and it was taken to a garage and left for evaluation. they checked out the problem and found this was a known issue of the throttle body with the ford fusion and advised us to call the dealer (edie gilstrap motors, salem, in). our 3 year 36,000 mile warranty had just expired in august and the dealer would not honor it, even though they said it was a known safety issue of the "throttle body". *ln updated 12/31/2013 *js
While driving upon four occasions, the engine stopped, resulting in a loss of speed and pulling over to the side of the road amid traffic or a driving lane closest to the curb. i was unable to accelerate, turned on my hazards and slowly maneuvered to a stop. the "wrench" light immediately illuminated, which normally indicates a powertrain issue; however, during the 4th occasion, the wrench light went off and then the "check engine" light illuminated. after speaking with several service personnel members and receiving guidance, it has been determined to be the electronic throttle body. while questioning my vehicle's service concerns, i encountered another individual at my dealership with the same car and issue, which was solved by replacing the electronic throttle body. after the first incident, i let the car rest for 5 minutes, started the car back up with ease and without the same issue for 7 days. the subsequent incidences occurred within a 3 hour period. although not on the highway each time, i feared a severe accident and stuck to city streets. *tr
Wrench light came on and vehicle immediately lost power. this happened twice on the freeway. luckily we were able to pull over and no accident occurred. managed to stop car / restart and made our way to the dealership. they replaced the throttle body. vehicle was just past the 3 year/36000 warranty period. this is very dangerous and we were very lucky to not get slammed in the rear from these incidents. this is apparently happening with a lot of 2010 ford fusions. *tr
I was on the highway going about 60mph when my car(2010 ford fusion) would not accelerate at all and immediately cut-off.,i happen to be in the slow lane of the highway i tried starting it backup and it did enough to coax it to the shoulder, but when i tried to give it some gas it cut off and would not start. i had it towed and discovered the throttle body unit went out and needed replacing. all of this happen with no warning no noise,no lights coming on,nothing, the car just cut off. it was very scary being on the highway and your car turning off with no warning, and unexpected out of pocket expense because my car was out of warranty (39,571 miles). to discover this is a problem for many ford owners an ford won't do a recall is very frustrating, and i'm still afraid to drive on the highway in my car even though it has been repaired, a terrifying event in my life. *js
2010 ford fusion, maintenance light comes on and all gas/throttle is cut to rough idle with no response. this incident has almost caused accidents to stalling while trying to cross roads. you have to remove the key and restart 1-4 times before the light goes away and you can use the throttle, all while it may shut off again after you get moved just a little way. *tr
It first happened on tuesday september 3, 2013 while driving on a main road returning to my home. the speed was 50 miles per hour and all of a sudden a wrench tool light shines and my car just slows down to 5 miles and then stops. luckily it was late at night and i was in the right hand lane and could turn into a driveway of a car wash. it was a scary thing and i was all alone. i turned off the car and sat for a minute and then turned it back on. i was able to go 1 mile to my home and park the car. i thought it might be a fluke. i didn't drive it again until thursday when it occurred on the same street close to the same place. i was almost rear-ended by a car behind me. on saturday, i was traveling the toll road and going 65 miles per hour trying to get to a bible study when it just slowed and quit. i had numerous cars roaring around me. i stopped the engine and started it again. it did it 3 more times before i got to my location. after my meeting i went directly to my ford dealer. i had to rent a car from the airport because their service was closing and they couldn't start on it until monday (today) september 9th. i found out it was the throttle body and that it wasn't covered under my power train warranty. with my senior discount it is costing me $595.84. i have only had this card for 16 months. it had 39k miles on it when i bought it. now i see this thing has happened to many more cars. when is it going to stop? ford must do something about this. *tr
While driving with my family (3 yr old , 6 month old and my husband) throttle sudden stopped functioning. we were driving on the freeway when this happened the first time and was very scary and dangerous to suddenly lose speed. when we pulled over and restarted the car the throttle response seemed back to normal. we have had this happen multiple times a day ( as this is my families only car) i am now scared to drive with my girls in the car. *tr
I was traveling down a 2 lane highway (state road, pa) when the car began to rapidly lose acceleration and seemed to stall. the engine jerked excessively, but never turned off. no amount of pressing the accelerator made any difference. i coasted to the side of the road safely. luckily, no one hit me. turned engine off and called for roadside assistance. turned the vehicle on a few minutes later and everything was fine. the yellow wrench light came on when accelerator lost control. next day, while driving to work , it happened on rt13n de and again i was lucky to be able to quickly get to the emergency lane. yellow wrench light and no control on accelerator with engine vibrating heavily but does not turn off. switched off and turned on - everything is fine. same day evening - returning from work - it happens as i get on the entry ramp to i95 n de. narrowly missed someone rear ending me. yellow light, heavy vibration and no acceleration. turn off and turn on, everything is fine. being in downtown wilmington - no emergency lane and had to do this right in the middle of the road during rush hour. this sudden loss of power is extremely scary and with 2 children in the back seat - i fear for their safety. imagine if this is happens on the interstate with a 18 wheeler behind you. will be taking to dealer first thing in the morning. vehicle is serviced and maintained only by ford. no one has touched my vehicle other than ford authorized dealer and have not missed a single ford recommended maintenance service. *jb
I was driving down the highway at around 70 mph and all the lights came on my dashboard. a wrench came on and the car started losing power. i pulled over to the side of the road, shut the car off. i waited a few minutes, started it. it started right up. i drove for a few miles, it did it again. *jb
While i was entering the highway my car lost power and i had to pull over on the shoulder. the throttle body needed to be replaced. *tr
We were going down the interstate and my car started shaking and died out. this continued 6 more times before we found a valvoline and had them test it on their computer. it gave the code p2111 tac system open. now the code is gone and the dealer can not fix it unless it displays this code so we have to continue to drive it until the error message shows up again.*jb
Driving on highway, traveling at appx 65-70 miles per hour - car started rattling and then slowed down considerably - car did not stall, but pressing on the gas pedal and the car did not accelerate. was able to safely pull over, turned the car off, tried to drive, but the car wouldn't drive - engine worked fine, but car would not move forward or backward. yellow wrench light came on. had car towed to dealership. was told it needs a new throttle body assembly. *jb
Second engine/power train failure within 4,000 miles of vehicle 36 month, 36,000 mile warranty expiration (first failure was a total power loss at high way speeds within 1,000 miles of warranty expiration). vehicle suddenly began jerking, shuttering and hesitating upon first acceleration. ford evaluated mass flow sensor to be faulty and replaced at $425 cost in addition to $50 rental car. upon consultation with ford customer service, no costs were covered or reimbursed. my wife often travels alone with my children, so we purchase new cars specifically to avoid such break downs and maintenance problems. we paid cash for this vehicle, and could buy a new bmw 760il tomorrow free and clear. instead, we bought a ford fusion to show support for the american auto industry. understand that mechanical failures happen, but very disappointed with ford customer service for not reimbursing or issuing recalls for these known manufacturer defects occurring on essentially new first owner cars < 40,000 miles. will never buy a ford again. *tr
Driving in far left lane at highway speed. the car had been on for about 10 minutes after sitting in parking lot all day. it was 96 degrees. car started to vibrate and slow down. i noticed that the tool light was on. obviously i had entered into limp mode and found a way to cross four lanes of rush hour traffic to make it to the emergency lane. once stopped engine loped erratically and would not accelerate. engine was non-responsive to pedal changes. put car in park and shut the engine off. i waited 30 seconds and started the car again and drove home (26 miles) without further incident. it should be noted that i have experienced surging in the engine this past week. symptoms point to the throttle body; but this is speculation as i have not had the car diagnosed by a professional. i am aware that there is a current investigation into this matter. this event happened at highway speeds and could have been disastrous. driving can be inherently dangerous and parts do break; but, the fact that this has been a known issue for quite some time warrants an additional report.
Motor power surge a few times then died with 4 lanes of traffic all traveling about 65mlh. was able to turn key off and restart motor and ran fine the rest of the way home. today surge a few times but not as often as yesterday. *tt
I was driving and a wrench came on my dash, the car stalled and lost all throttle. its happened to me before but now its doing it alot more. i am afraid i will get hurt. *tr
Going down road about 45 mph accelerate stop responding. couldn't give any gas. rpm drop to around idle [ idle was rough] all most got rear ended. got over to side of road. turn car off. then restarted drove it home [ about 3 mile] and parked this has happen twice in the last 4 days . both times driving about 45 mph. first time 8/23/2013 second time 8/26/2013 *tr
As i made a left hand turn into my neighborhood, i felt the car sort of slip out of gear. it began slowing down so i pressed on the gas pedal and nothing happened. then, the engine light went on and shortly after, the transmission light appeared. i coasted down the hill and pulled over. i shut off the car and turned it back on. it seemed to be fine for 5 seconds and then the two lights reappeared. the gas pedal stopped working and the car began shaking and lunging forward. i was close to home, luckily, so i coasted into the driveway and got it towed to the dealer the next day. the throttle body needed to be replaced, which after doing some research, is a major known problem with the fusion. i'm wondering why there is no recall. *tr
My vehicle is a 2010 ford fusion se v6. i was traveling at 80 mph in the left lane on the highway when my car decided it no longer wished to accelerate. my speed immediately and drastically slowed despite keeping my foot to the floor on the accelerator. because i did not touch my brakes, there was no warning of my rapid deceleration to the vehicles behind me by way of brake lights. the vehicle directly behind me missed hitting me by about 2 inches and the vehicles behind that had to swerve - in very heavy traffic - to avoid hitting both of us. it was an extremely dangerous situation. i quickly threw on my hazards and pulled over on the left side of the highway. with my foot completely on the brake and the car completely stopped, the car shook, sputtered, and seemed to try to literally jerk forward entirely by itself. the only warning light that came on was the little wrench (throttle control/powertrain/stability). i put the car in park and removed the keys. i sat there for about 2 minutes, then i started up the car, saw no warning lights, and continued driving to my destination without a single issue. it was a truly terrifying experience. it has happened twice before but both times were at low speeds with no other cars around. i took it in to the dealership then and was told they could find nothing wrong with it. *tr
I was driving to work in rush hour traffic with cruise control on doing about 60mph and all of a sudden the car lost power.......engine began to run rough and would not accelerate above an idle (rough idle). there was no response to the throttle; the car would not go faster and could not maintain speed. it only decelerated. i immediately pulled out of traffic to the shoulder and limped to the nearest side street. i turned the car off, checked under the hood, and when i restarted, it ran perfectly fine. a check of the web and contact with the ford dealer indicated the throttle body was bad. the dealer indicated this was a common problem, that the part has been upgraded twice but my vehicle was not part of a service bulletin/recall. a new throttle body and about $500 later the car is fine its clear may drivers/customers are experiencing this same issue this was dangerous. when the issue happened i was being followed closely by a large truck. i had no warning and the only available option was to immediately pull out of lane and onto the shoulder.. fortunately i was in the extreme right lane and could pull out of traffic without incident - it would have been a serious incident had i been in the center of left lane, or where there was no available shoulder. *tr
I was leaving work driving down columbia pike road in arlington, va. @ 3:30 in the afternoon on august 22, 2013 heading towards interstate 395. i has stopped at an intersection waiting for the light to turn green and my 2010 ford fusion began to shake violently, as if it was going to cut off for no apparent reason. i looked at the dash board and saw an illuminated wrench and could not figure out what was happening. the street light turned green and i mashed on the gas pedal and the car did not have any forward motion. the car continued to shake violently, so i immediately turned on my emergency flashers to warn the other cars and for my safety, that i was having a mechanical problem with my car and coasted down the hill looking for a safe location to try and figure out exactly what was wrong with the car. as i coast down the hill, i continued mashing the gas pedal with no results. i pulled over stopped the car and turned the car off for a few minutes trying to figure out my next step. just by chance i decided to try and restart the car and the car started up with forward motion. if i had been on the interstate 395 near the pentagon, i could have lost my life because of this problem. i called my wife who lives in atlanta and told her what had happened and by chance that evening on the atlanta news other ford owners were describing this very same issue (throttle body failure) on there ford vehicles. i am filing a complaint against ford motors to get this problem fixed at no cost to the ford owners. we paid our money for a quality product and ford should stand behind there product and fix it not just run away from the problem. *tr
Was traveling on 696 in detroit area at 70 mph when my 2010 ford fusion suddenly lost 'power' to the power train, it lost all velocity and the ability to accelerate. it went from 70 mph to 0 mph in seconds! i have never been so scared for my life as i was at that moment watching cars 'jump' lanes to avoid rear ending me due my sudden loss of power. i thank god i was able to cross multiple lanes making near the shoulder as the vehicle came to a stop! the engine was still running but list ability to move. dealership charged $600 to repair my vehicle which was 2 weeks out of warranty with 30,000 miles! when asked what happened the service manager said sometimes parts go bad. after reading about the issue, it sounds bigger problem than that. let me know what info you need. *tr
I was driving to work at 4:30am in the morning at 65 mph on cruise control when the car started to lose rpms then i noticed a yellowish wrench light come on. i pulled off the highway while pushing the accelerator all the way to the floor and it was just making a spitter and sputtering noise and speed would only move at 2mph. i called my husband and told him i was broke down and that the car was running rough but was afraid to turn it off. he came to where i was at and checked the oil, the oil was fine. he told me to start the car. when i started the car everything was fine with no problems. he followed me 20 miles to work with no issues. after work i got back on the highway and drove about a mile when the same thing happened. i pulled over to the berm and shut the car off and back on and drove about 2 miles and again the wrench light came on and this time the check engine light and the wrench light came on. i took it to a auto part store where they scanned and found the code p2111. i searched online where i read there were a lot of the same problems. i called ford and they refused to help with parts due to my warranty was expired. *tr
Was driving along and suddenly, the car jerked and felt like i had down shifted, although it is an automatic. i immediately pulled over to the side of the road. after restarting, car drove normally for a few miles. soon, the same thing happened except i attempted to accelerate and even with my foot all the way down on the pedal, nothing happened. the incident seems to match the "throttle body" complaints. *tr
Throttle actuator control system is stuck open. *tr
I purchased my 2010 ford fusion in april of 2012 and have had many incidents of the "check fuel inlet" message after filling up. sometimes it will trigger the check engine light to illuminate. i have had a diagnostic test ran when this has occurred and was told it was that the gas flap didn't seal properly when i removed the fuel nozzle. this again occurred on aug. 17, 2013 but the car was running fine. then on aug. 22 i had 3 incidents within 30 minutes of each other. the first incident was while traveling on the highway at approximately 65 mph the wrench warning light came on and the vehicle lost all power. i managed to get the vehicle to the shoulder of the road. i turned the vehicle off and restarted it and was able to travel the next 4 miles with some sputtering and racing of the engine. the second incident i was pulling away from the curb trying to accelerate. the wrench warning light came back on and the vehicle had no power. the third incident i was traveling approximately 20 mph when the engine again lost power and the wrench warning light came on. after researching this issue it seems to be a common occurrence and should become a recall by ford motor company. *tr
Upon accelerating from a dead stop at a traffic signal, i could not accelerate past 15 mph. i pulled over to the side of the road an the car was idling very roughly and on the verge of stalling. i turned the car off, waited 1-2 minutes, restarted the car and the car was running "normally". i don't recall if any of the dashboard lights came on. i took the vehicle into my local ford dealer and was told that the issue is the throttle body and it needs to be replaced and that the stalling could happen at any given time. unfortunately the part id on back-order for 1-2 months so i need to live with this dangerous issue for some time. the car is a 2010 ford fusion. i am the original owner (purchased in dec '09) and this is the first occurrence of this stalling issue. *tr
I was driving about 45 on straight stretch of road car felt like it went into neutral but it did not lost all power pressing on the gas did nothing was able to pull off road yellow-wrench light came on car started missing real bad so hard the car was jumping a little so i cut the car off and then it started back up and ran ok for about 10 miles did the same thing again-i took it to local ford dealership rented a car they told me on friday as it did not happen with them and did not throw a code they could find nothing wrong with it and i needed to drive it again and if it happened again to bring it back on monday- i picked car up drove it saturday about 40 miles and same thing again i drove it on home as the ford place was closed i am afraid to drive it as it is very dangerous -sunday a friend of mine drove behind me to take it back to same dealership and about 10-12 miles car did same thing (4th time) was able to restart it and then drove it to the dealership with a note about the problem. spoke to dealership yesterday and today and once again they tell me as the code was alerted and they drove it 20 miles and it was fine -the car is not fine it is dangerous to myself and others -i expressed this to them and was told there was nothing they could do as they don't know what the problem is to drive it and if it happens again to come back? i looked on the internet and found many other examples of the same problem -if there are a lot of concerns what can be done to get ford to admit this is a safety problem -i talked to them about the throttle body assembly problems but was told it may be the problem but would not recommend replacing it because they don't know. *tr
We were driving up a slight hill on a state highway with a 45 mi/hr speed limit when the car lost power and the yellow 'dogbone' wrench warning light illuminated. i pulled to the side of the road, turned the car off and restarted it, and continued to drive to our destination. coming home, the car failed again, and so once each of the next three days. we took it to our dealer and had to wait a week for a new throttle body to be delivered. *tr
Car went limp. i could not power the vehicle via the accelerator. i coasted to a stop, restarted the engine and everything was fine. after speaking to the dealer, it was determined i needed a new throttle body. the throttle body was replaced and was actually a different part number than the original factory part, as ford knew it was defective and had replaced it from its inventory. they did not issue a recall and i was forced to pay $540 for an issue that has affected thousands of ford owners. *tr
Six months after purchasing my fusion brand new, it left me stranded 6 hours away from home on the side of the road with a wrench light on and no acceleration. after a tremendous tow bill that ford would not cover (yes i have the extended warranty) i had my car brought to my local dealer and found to be and replaced the throttle body. yesterday on my way to work, it started doing the sputtering and jerking again and that wrench light came on and i lost all power control to my vehicle. thankfully i was able to make it to the side of the road. after a few mins it did crank back and i was able to drive about 15 miles before it did it again and this time my engine light came on. now my local ford dealership is saying all i can do is pay to have it fixed again because my extended warranty just ran out and it is going to be expensive. i don't understand why a recurring problem can't be fixed. it is very unsafe to have a car do this while on a highway. especially when you have kids in the car like i do. *tr
I purchased my 2010 ford fusion se (4 cylinder - six speed) in february 2013. the vehicle had 12,100 miles at purchase. the vehicle currently has 16,900 miles. i was traveling on the highway at approximately 65 mph when the "wrench" warning light came on and the vehicle began to lose power. the vehicle literally had no power and the vehicle's speed decreased rapidly, with no response to increase power via gas petal or downshifting to a lower gear. i was lucky that i was in the left lane, which had a shoulder. i was able to pull off the highway and shut the vehicle off. i waited about 2 minutes and started the vehicle, which hesitated at first, but then started. i drove the car to work and the vehicle operated with no issues. i brought the vehicle to a ford dealership that evening for diagnostics. the next day, the dealership advised that the throttle body needed to be replaced. i am glad that i had purchased an extended warranty ($100.00 deductible) because the out of pocket cost would have been over $500.00, for a vehicle with less than 20,000 miles. this complaint needs to be forward to ford motor company in regards to the faultiness of the throttle body part. i was lucky, but this situation could have caused an accident on the highway. *tr
Throttle stopped working and wrench showed in dash board. *tr
Ever since 80,000 miles on my car has hit i've been having throttle body issues. at first it was only once in a while when shifting between 2nd and 3rd my rpm needle would bouce and feel the gears having troubles changing. at that point when the car was unable to shift the mechanic light would turn on and disengage my car not allowing me to use the gas. after pulling over the car would still rev and shake to move forward. upon putting the car in park and turning off all was needed was to re-start the car and would be good. only until recently the problem only increased. i had a 30 minute commute that took 1 hour and since the car would disengage i had to swerve and vear traffic just to pull over into a safe location. my car during my last trip stalled a total of 19 times in 1 trip, please demand a recall as i can see per the internet i'm not the only one. *tr
Ford fusion 2010 has defective engine fuel system/computer identifying the throttle body as the non-functional part causing a safety hazard to self and others. at 60 mph freeway speed the car goes into an instant "low rpm mode", causing complete loss of foot pedal control and rpm immediately reduced to 800. at this point the car is an unguided missile looking to strike something. the power steering is non existent. my car did this on 8-19-2013 with only 12303 miles on it. this has to be an electrical malfunction of the throttle body sensing circuitry being defective. it is only a little more time until this gets someone killed. after stopping with a dead engine, starting again results in very rough idling and no more than 800 rpm, which is incapable of moving the car. shutoff the ignition, check and have good oil and transmission and cooling levels. started the car again and it was back to normal, until one block later at a stop light......same thing again. if ford does not do a recall on this, they will have to spend money on the relatives of the dead people's lawsuits! *tr
While leaving work, the rpms dropped drastically and the car began to lose acceleration quickly and slowed down to 0. i turned the car off and restarted it, thinking that it really was time for a tune-up. it ran fine for about 15 miles while on the expressway. shortly afterwards, while still driving home from work, the same issue happened. i was on a very busy road under heavy construction. the car lost acceleration, slowed down to 0 and began running very rough. there was no shoulder to use due to the construction and the barricades on both side of the road. the car came to a complete stop in the road with rush hour traffic beeping their horns behind me. had to shut the car off and restart it, painfully chugging my way past the construction zone to where i could finally pull off on the shoulder of the road. turned out to be the "throttle body". i had to replace it which was not cheap. i love my car, we are pro ford; but while researching this problem, and after seeing all the other people on blogs that have had the exact same problem as my car, i was shocked that there is still not a recall on this part and felt i had to file a complaint. it is clearly a defective part that is putting people in danger. to lose acceleration on a large city's 8 lane expressway in rush hour while people are driving 80 mph + is extremely dangerous. really glad i made it to the highway before the throttle body totally quit working and that i did not have the grandchildren with me at the time! *js
Twice now i was driving when my car began to shake/jump. the wrench light came on and i lost power to the car, couldn't use the gas peddle and steering was awful. i had to completely stop in the middle of the road, put the car in park, turn it off and then back on. i was able to take it home and drive again but it keeps happening. this is not safe for me or other drivers. *tr
Vehicle lost power and would not respond to accelerator, just prior to entering freeway on ramp. wrench icon appeared on console. fortunately, no one was following, so was able to pull over to side of road safely. car began to shake. turned off car - was able to restart and get home safely. reviewed symptoms on line - consistent with throttle body issue, which appears to be a frequently reported problem with the fusion. took the car to the dealer next day - confirmed it was defective throttle body. service manager indicated this is a common issue with the fusion, and they see one or two a month at just this dealer. part had been back ordered for some time, but luckily had just come in, so vehicle was repaired same day (out of warranty, of course - 3 year old car with 40000 mi). seems like this is a known problem with potential safety implications that ford is well aware of - why isn't this the subject of a recall and replacement before this happens to someone at 70 mph? *jb
While driving at 65 mph the engine drops to idle. you have to pull over on the shoulder and restart the car. *tr
Was driving on the highway at about 65 mph and the car lost all response to the accelerator, pressing on the gas did not accelerate the car. pulled over to the side and car ran a rough. turned the car off, waited about a minute and restarted. car restarted fine and drove fine after that for the rest of the trip. my wife drove the car the next day and had the same thing happen while she was on the highway. she saw the check engine light come on (i don't recall it coming on, but may have just missed it). *tr
While leaving a stop sign and pulling onto a main road, vehicle jerked and lost all forward motion. no response from the accelerator and engine ran rough below 1000rpms. wrench light on dash lite up and car won't move hardly at all. was barely able to get out of the traffic area of the street. put the car in park, turned off the engine and restarted the car. ran fine for 1/2 a block and went into limp mode again. was able to make it onto a side street this time. repeated the noted process above and was able to drive the car home. parked the car in my garage and was afraid to drive it afterward. contacted my mechanic and dropped off the car the next day. he stated it could be the throttle body or related problem based on my description. no codes present on the computer after the wrench light went off on restart. *tr
2 days in a row, driving 40-50 mph and my car completely loses acceleration. the wrench light goes on. i have to roll to a stop on the side of the road while the car shakes like it is stalling out. i turn the car off and wait a minute or two then turn the car on and everything is back to normal, no wrench light, no problems... until it happens again. this is very dangerous as i have a 10 month old daughter to drive around and wouldn't want to put ourselves in a dangerous situation on a busy road or highway. after researching online this problem seems to be a recurring issue with many fusion owners around the country. please help. *tr
On 8/17/13 while driving down the highway at 65 mph, my car went into (limp mode) would no long accelerate, we safely pulled to the side of the road and the car began to shake violently. we put the car in park and shut it off, we restarted the car and it worked fine, the next occurrence occurred 9/1/13, while accelerating up a freeway ramp, all the same symptoms, again the car restarted fine. third occurrence 9/2/13 while driving 35 mph on the street. it seems it is the throttle body. my car is no longer under warranty, i called the ford dealership and they are on "back order for the part," i was also told this part "goes out all the time." i am told it can be up to 1 month for the part to come in! my car is not drivable and is a safety hazard. luckily, the past three occurrences i was able to pull safely over, but i can not risk, driving it any longer. i am stuck.*jb
I had just started and was exiting a retail establishment. i was driving down a slight incline approaching a stop light when the car started shaking and dramatically lost speed. the wrench light came on which according to the manual indicates a possible powertrain/transmission issue. i turned the car off and then restarted (in the middle of the road) and drove to a safe location. i was lucky that at the time i was driving at a slow speed and approaching a stop light. if a car had been behind me someone would have been injured. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle would not accelerate. the check engine warning light illuminated. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 46,000. *tr
Throttle body failure- car had to be towed into the dealership. vehicle completely lost power and left me stranded on the side of the road.
While accelerating heard a clunk and lost all power to the transmission and throttle. throttle light came on, car ran rough. had to coast to the side of the road. turned car off and back on. car ran fine, light went off and i continued home. now it happened again last week while going 65 on the interstate. same scenario. it happened again yesterday and twice this morning. cruise was set the last 3 times, going 68 on the interstate. last time in addition to the throttle warning light the check engine light came on and stayed on even after restarting. this could have been bad on the interstate, but there wasn't much traffic. it is now at the shop waiting on the verdict.
Vehicle suddenly stalled while at 25-30 mph, making it difficult to safely move to the side of the road. this occurred on a city street, but had it occurred on a multi-lane freeway at highway speeds, this could have caused a serious accident. vehicle eventually came to a speed of 2-3 mph. after restarting the vehicle, it was able to reach 10 mph while driving for service. later that same day, the technician was unable to re-create the scenario. the next day, the vehicle started to encounter rough acceleration from idle, was brought back to the same mechanic, who encountered the rough acceleration, and diagnosed an electronic throttle body failure. part was replaced, but mechanic noted it was on "critical nationwide back-order" because of wide-spread failures of this same part on fusions and other ford models. situation appears to be resolved. *tr
Most recently, while i was driving my 2010 ford fusion around 25 mph, my car slowed down, but did not shut off, and i couldn't accelerate. my rpm's dropped and my wrench light came on, so i pulled over and shut the car off. after a few minutes, i turned the car back on and it appeared fine. this happened 2 times in one week. my understanding is that i need a new throttle body. this car is a brand new 2010 ford fusion with 68,000 miles. i would not expect this type of problem/expense and am very frustrated. side note: i have had many other issues with this vehicle since the time i bought it. the other problem related to transmission "revving" that occurred when decelerating around 25-40 mph or between gears. i had my vehicle in multiple times at a ford dealership for this issue. they completed computer resets and ran other tests. the problem still continued. we escalated to the bbb and was awarded a ford field service engineer inspection and had a vehicle data recorder installed. the issues i described could not be replicated. *tr
