We have classified the 777 complaints from 2010 Ford Fusion about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact was driving 50 mph when the vehicle began to lunge and jerk. the vehicle failed to accelerate and stalled without warning. the vehicle was restarted however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was towed to a dealer for diagnosis but was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure and current mileage was 35,600. updated 12/24/13*lj the throttle body failed. the consumer stated he purchased the part from a local ford dealer and installed it himself. there have been no further problems.
Last week while bringing my children to school my car all of a sudden began to shake the wrench light came on and then it just completely died. i am very thankful this happened while i was still on a side street in our neighborhood. after a few minutes i was able to get it running again and drove it right home. there was no way i was going on busy roads not knowing why it died...once the car was restarted the light was gone...had it towed to a ford dealer and they told me it was my battery. only codes they could find were for low voltage...i argued it didn't make sense etc...had them change my battery picked up the car on thursday...happened again on sunday. calling the dealer again tomorrow but again the light is off so they probably won't be able to pull a code..so frustrating and unsafe! *tr
While driving the vehicle, it seems to lose power and the wrench light is displayed, sending the car into "limp home" mode. this has happened twice in the past week and a half. luckily i was on backroads and was able to safely pull over both times the car lost power and ultimately shut down. i was able to restart the vehicle both times and the wrench symbol was no longer displayed. i had the vehicle towed to ford, where they determined (based on codes stored in the computer) it to be throttle body failure. from online research this seems to be a very common problem with these cars, and a highly dangerous one. i travel on the highway daily too and from work and this is an unacceptable problem to have to deal with! hopefully there will be a recall/class action lawsuit so i can get some sort of reimbursement for the $550.00 this repair is going to cost. of course this is not considered a "powertrain" issue, so it does not fall under my warranty. *tr
Car would not accelerate, wrench symbol displayed. had to be towed. dtc code p2111 (throttle body had to be replaced). 6 weeks out of warranty as not covered by powertrain extended warranty. *tr
Driving 75mph on highway vehicle suddenly without warning or signals stalls. the vehicle dropped the speed from 75mph to 10mph as i continuously was trying to accelerate the speed but was unsuccessful. the code of p211 throttle body is defective & thank god no vehicle was behind me cause it could of caused a tremendous crash accident. *tr
As i was driving on the freeway traveling about 70 mph, the engine went into "limp" mode as i was in the fast lane. it had never happened to me before so i didn't know what was going on. luckily, there was nobody behind me and i was able to pull three lanes over to pull onto the shoulder. if there was anybody behind me i don't know what i would have done. ford tech told me it was an electronic throttle body and needed to be replaced. after research on the internet, i found many people having the same issue and cannot believe the part hasnt been recalled. irresponsibility by ford, if you ask me. *tr
Driving at highway speed when vehicle died, having complete loss of power. wrench light and check engine light both came on. there was no shoulder to pull over onto and many large 18 wheelers driving by. i pulled over in someone's driveway, turned the vehicle completely off, inspected under the hood and around the vehicle with no findings, and then attempted to restart. the vehicle restarted but had difficulty turning over. i continued to drive for approx 5 more miles when the incident occurred a second time. on the second time the vehicle had loss of power but the engine remained running. there was no throttle response, from depressing the gas pedal. once i pulled over on the shoulder the engine began rocking the car violently. i immediately turned off the vehicle and let it rest for 5 minutes. i restarted the car once again, this time without difficulty and drove it straight to an auto shop. the mechanic performing work on the car states the error code was p2111 and was the throttle body causing the problem. *tr
At the end of an interstate on ramp, the ford fusion clunked, stalled, and the wrench light came on. it was in a very dangerous place. lots of honking that i could do nothing about. after turning the car off and back on a couple of times, i was able to get it to a less dangerous place. towed it to the ford garage where they replaced the throttle body. *tr
My sixteen year old son was driving on the highway when a "wrench" light came on (in the dash) and the car looses all power and does not respond to the accelerator. restarting the car after pulling over results in normal operation. upon researching the issue it turns out the throttle plate needs to be replaced. this problem is not the result of abuse or difficult driving conditions and is an extreme safety hazard. i am confident it is only a matter of time before serious injury results from such loss of control without warning or indication. a search on the internet reveals hundreds (or more) of the same issue on the same car within the same mileage range - about 66,000. this problem should be subject to recall. *tr
We were driving approximately 65 mph when the car suddenly started to decelerate at a rapid pace and eventually stalled. we noticed a wrench light on the dashboard as we pulled the car over. after restarting the car we were able to drive a couple of miles before the same thing would occur. after a couple more times of having to pull over and restart the car the check engine light also came on. thankfully we were able to get to a family members house as we were approx 90 miles from home. the code we pulled from the car was p2111.....indicative of this infamous throttle body problem in this make and model. we ended up having to get towed to the nearest dealership 35 miles away.....yet another 35 from our home. thankfully this was covered under our extended warranty plan from ford. a coworker of mine had the exact same issue about 6 months ago....same make/model/year. luckily the highway we were on wasn't busy at the time the car stalled repeatedly. i don't see how this can't be a recall...... *tr
I was on my way to my grandsons wedding when all of a sudden the cars power went off, fortunately was able to get off road but had i not been could have easily been in accident, turned off engine and was able to get the next few miles and then back home. however on my way to work monday the 14th of october 2013 the car did the same thing three times and i maneuvered to side and called mike fitzpatrick ford newnan georgia and they came and got me.only to be told it was throttle body which would cost me over 400.00. the car has a little over 26,000 miles,i mean really????? meanwhile my daughter had already went on line and knew it was the throttle body and that several others had complained with the same thing in the 2010 fusion. so come on and insist on recall before a major accident. could be one of your family members. i will not let this go. *tr
While exiting a highway at nearly 60mph my cars transmission system went unresponsive. the motor was still running, but the car was coasting. i put on my hazard lights. i had a semi truck next to and behind me. i was nearly hit while trying to move to the side of the road. while stopped on the side of the road the car started lurching violently. i shut the car off and had it towed to my ford dealer. my dealer told me the car needed a new throttle body part which was no longer covered under warrant since my 3 years was up 3 months prior. when i looked up the issue online it appears this is a constant complaint and problem. why isn't this a recalled part. it nearly killed us. i have a 12 year old son and no longer feel safe having this car. what's worse is this problem was known prior to my being sold the car in the first place. i wanted to buy american and have had good luck with ford in the past, but they decided saving a few bucks was worth more than my and my child's safety. how is this legal. if nothing else car companies should be required to disclose this type of problem to potential buyers.. *tr
Was driving about 35 going to make a left hand turn and wrench light came on car sounded as it was getting no gas and stalled as turning in. i was almost in an accident. *tr
On my way home from work while going 65 mph on i-65 while in the far left lane, car decelerated to 30mph and began shaking. had to pull over and avoid being hit by 4 semis and 5 cars, thankfully managed to get in median, just in time. car had to be restarted which it did fine, but later happened again. called dealership and they said to bring it in that it is a known failure with a diagnosis of throttle body failure!! please do something about this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *tr
1st incident: i was driving down the freeway at 65mph. my rpm dropped for no reason. it felt like i lost power but the car kept moving. i took the next exit and while sitting at an intersection the wrench light came on and the car lost all power. i waited about 5 minutes and turned the key...the car started right up. 2nd: i was driving 40 mph and noticed the rpm drop. when i stopped at a stop light the wrench light came on and the car lost power. 3rd incident: tonight, as i was driving 35 mph down a winding road, the wrench light came on the car lost power and slowed to a roll. i pressed the gas pedal but it didn't work but the car kept crawling with a jerky motion. cars were coming around the corner so fast. i turned on my flashers, put the car in park, turned the key off and restarted the car. i have had the car checked out by 2 ford dealers they say they don't know what the problem could be. they could not detect any codes from the car computer. they ruled out the battery and the alternator. i am taking it in again tomorrow to a different ford dealer. i took a picture of the dash showing the wrench light and i will show them the posts on this site. *tr
I was approximately 2 miles from my starting point traveling at a speed of 55 mph. suddenly, the 2010 ford fusion lurched while shifting into overdrive. when it lurched all ability to accelerate was lost. with cars on each side, i had no ability to accelerate; i lost speed quickly and worked my way to the side of the road (very dangerous situation). i immediately noticed the 'wrench symbol warning light on the dashboard, but did not know what that warning signified. during the loss of acceleration, the car did not lose power steering and it remained running, but the engine was sputtering and not idling at a steady pace. when i got to the side of the road, i put the car in park and tried to 'rev' up the engine, but i had absolutely no control of the throttle. the wrench light was still on. i then turned off the ignition and waited about 1 minute then restarted. the car again had no acceleration ability and sputtered which sounded very much like a cough. i turned the car off again and called for assistance. approximately 5 minutes later, when assistance arrived, i started the car again. at this time, the wrench warning light was off and the car appeared to idle normally. upon research, i found that the wrench symbol means: throttle control/transmission problem. the driver of the car should contact the authorized dealer for service as soon as possible. *tr
Driving down the street got up to 30mph when the wrench light came on. once the wrench light came & i pressed on the gas pedal i could not accelerate. turned the car off waited a few minutes turned the car back on started up fine. didn't happen again until a week later, some problem happened again. *tr
System stalled out and entered "get home mode" ford dealer says it's a throttle body issue, and i saw that there is a pending investigation. *tr
Was driving my fusion and the colder the weather gets the more the transmission messes up. i was told by the dealership on multiple occasions that this is normal and that there is a defect in the transmission that ford is unwilling to fix causing long pauses between first and second gear and second and third, with high rpms (3500-4500). i have done research and found that there are hundreds of people with the exact same problems i have. i live on a main road and a few days ago i went to pull out and it was slick and a truck almost hit me when my car paused before shifting gears so that i can go. this makes a very dangerous situation and i would love to see the transmissions get fixed before something terrible happens. as of right now the dealerships are saying that ford is not allowing any further servicing on the vehicles as a preventative measure. *tr
While traveling to work vehicle lost all power. nearly rear ended as there was no place to pull of as car coasted to a stop. looked online to see if this is a problem with this car as i purchased it 4 months ago. numerous complaints and close calls reported. the throttle bodies are on backorder as there are so many failures being reported. this a serious problem and will lead to accidents. *tr
From a stopped position in my condo parking lot, i began to enter street and my car began to jerk/lunge. i noticed the yellow gold wrench warning light came on. engine stopped. i was able to restart and chugged/eased into a plaza parking lot. called ford dealership and was advised to call for a tow to their service department. there was no prior incident leading up to this event. it just happened. i feel lucky to have been entering a side street vice being stopped and trying to move through a congested intersection. the throttle body was replaced. *tr
This vehicle was driven at highway speed of 50 mph. the advanced trac light came on the instrument panel, saying to service the advance trac is needed, when the transmission down shifted harshly an the engine light came on, an would not go off even after cutting the vehicle off an restarting the vehicle an would not accelerate higher than 20 mph in traffic on a sunday afternoon. i had to continue this procedure the entire commute to my work place which was a 50 mile commute one way. i parked the vehicle for 16 hours to hopefully reset the system. i came out to get in my vehicle to hopefully go home an the same actions started again on the highway. i turned the vehicle off an drove the vehicle to the dealership where i purchased this vehicle from with the engine light on the entire trip to the dealership. the dealership told me they would need to keep the vehicle to analyze what was wrong with the vehicle an had to take the transmission pan down to find out what was exactly wrong with the vehicle. the service was done the next morning an i found out the wiring harness was shaved with in the transmission an the part was not covered by the warranty or the extended warranty i purchased when i bought the vehicle. the cost was going to be at least 500 dollars to repair my vehicle. i know that other ford ...
My car, 2010 ford fusion se, has now stalled on me three times with in the matter of 3 months. the first time it stalled i was pulling onto a main road and taking a left, having to cross both lanes and it stalled as soon as i tried to accelerate across both lanes, i barely made it across both lanes to pull over and get out of the way. the second time was similar except i was taking a right onto a street and could pull right over. the third time it stalled on me i was driving approx.. 50mph over a bridge and had to pull over where the traffic was coming onto and off of the highway and thought i was going to get hit. my car is not paid for and now i need to spend almost $400.00 right before christmas... i can not believe this isn't a recall after reading over 600 similar situations... if this were to result in an injury or fatality would that make it a recall?? *tr
I was driving approximately 70 mph in the left lane on i-40 when i heard a noise and then realized that i had absolutely no throttle response. i also noticed that the orange wrench light illuminated on the dashboard. this was especially frightening and dangerous given the fact that i was driving during a time of high-volume traffic, and there were cars behind me also going 70 mph. thankfully, i was able to pull over to the shoulder without endangering myself or other drivers. upon reaching the shoulder, i realized that the car was bucking and surging, and i turned off the engine. a few minutes later, i attempted to restart the car and continue driving, but upon accelerating towards highway speeds, the same problem occurred, and i moved back onto the shoulder. i had my vehicle towed to the dealership, and after inspecting the vehicle my service representative informed me that the throttle body needed to be replaced. they also informed me that there have been so many issues with this particular part, that it is on back order with ford on a national scale. quite frankly, i'm appalled that ford has yet to issue a recall on this part, and i'm afraid it will only occur after someone is seriously injured as a result of their defective throttle body. i find this extremely disheartening, and i would like an explanation from ford as to why they have not issued a recall. *tr
Traveling on a local interstate at 70mph in traffic, the car suddenly lost power, the engine went to idle and would not accelerate or maintain speed. the engine was still running. as i was rapidly losing speed, i had to get to the right should to pull the car safely out of traffic. the exact same loss of engine power occurred less than 24 hours earlier while waiting to turn in the middle of an intersection. these are the first 2 incidents, but occurred very close together. *tr
My daughter was driving home from work in traffic in the used vehicle we bought her 3 days ago. the vehicle began to sputter then lost power ,yellow wrench light came on, pressing gas pedal did nothing she was almost rear ended. pulled over to side of road turned off car and turned it back on wrench light was gone car started up. drove a few more miles same thing happened she had to pull over again turn it off and restart. i looked up the problem online and found many, many posts on this issue. it is a throttle body issue. ford needs to do a recall! *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the vehicle decelerated without manual force. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 50,300.
Throttle body went out on car. car all of the sudden just stopped accelerating and would accelerate any more. the "wrench" light came on. 2010 awd ford fusion sel *js
I was trying to enter i-77 from the entrance ramp when the vehicle lost power and a wrench appeared on my dash lights. i pulled to the side of the ramp and turned the engine off. in a few minutes i restarted the engine and it ran fine. i did some research and discovered that ford has a severe problem with the throttle bodies on this engine (i-4). this is a dangerous situation, if i had been on the busy interstate i would probably have been run over. i contacted the local ford dealer and they said that the throttle body was probably the problem and it wasn't covered under warranty. they quoted me a price between $500.00 and $700.00 to replace it. i purchased the part myself for under $200.00 and replaced it myself in about 15 minutes. ford needs to correct this problem before someone gets killed. *js
Car stalled out while on cruise and was shaking until i at idle. this happened all without warning. took to dealer and was told it is the electronic throttle body. *js
As i was driving through an intersection taking a left hand turn, my car slowed down and was no longer responsive to my pushing the gas pedal. i had to roll through the intersection to safety and fortunately on coming traffic was far enough away that i was not hit. i had to turn off my car and turn it back on to fix the issue. i could have been seriously injured. my research showed me that many others are suffering from this dangerous problem which seems to stem from the throttle body. i need this fixed immediately since this is a major issue but no place is selling this part. very concerned about how this could turn out for others
While driving the throttle stops working (no response) and the engine goes into idle and displays wrench symbol on dashboard. when you pull over (if possible) and shut engine off and restart it resets and works fine. at first this was intermittent but on my 25 mile commute to work it happened about 8-10 times leaving me stalled in dangerous situations on highways and in middle of intersections with no safe place to pull over. i was told by ford dealer that it is a known part failure and they don't even have any replacements on shelf to repair and that ford might be looking to replace throttle body and recall but did not an answer at this time. ford is leaving their customers in very dangerous situations and possible lawsuits if nothing is done. *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle would not accelerate. the check engine light and the wrench warning icon illuminated. the vehicle began to lunge forward and shutter before proceeding to stall. the contact was able to restart the vehicle but the failure continued to recur intermittently. the contact discovered that the throttle body was defective and replaced throttle body himself. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 88,000. *js
I was merging onto the highway and when i hit approximately 65 mph, i felt the lose momentum and by the time i looked down, i was around 55-60 mph. i then tried to give it gas while watching my rpm's and saw that it was erratically jumping around between the 1000 and 1500 marks. so i pull over to the should and off the road and as i start coming to a stop, my car beings to shake violently. so i throw it in park and immediately turned off the car. after about 10 minutes on the phone with the closest ford dealer i know, i turn on the car and it's running like nothing ever happened. however, it did take a little long to start, like as if the battery was on the verge of dying. i managed to get my car to the ford dealership where i had them run a diagnostics test on it and sure enough, they didn't find a code. they even had me come out and watch the test be done, and everything was showing a passing mark.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the power steering warning light illuminated as the steering wheel became extremely loose, making it difficult to control the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure and current mileage was 56,000. updated 10/29/13*lj the consumer stated the warning light for the throttle body illuminated. the throttle body was repaired but the failure recurred. the air bag light illuminates periodically. updated 10/30/2013 *js
While driving on the interstate at 60 mph, my car started to decelerate. my car dropped to 1100 rpms and was unresponsive to the accelerator. i was able to coast to the side of the road before getting ran over. the check engine light was not on, but the wrench light was lit up. once i turned off the car for 3 seconds and restarted my car, the car started to work again. when i called the dealership they informed me this is a common problem, but no recall has been issued and its not part of the power train warranty. the power train warranty on covers the block, heads and transmission. the cost to have this fixed is about $450. i never expected to be doing this types of repairs on a car with only 39,500 miles. *tr
While drive 45 mph the car slowed down to 5 mph and would not go any faster. this happened once and the powertrain light came on. it reset itself then a week later it happened twice while trying to drive home. throttle body replacement needed. *tr
I was turning left into a driveway and my car lost acceleration but did not quit running. i pulled over to the side of street and turned the car off for a few minutes and the car started back up with no problem. there was no check engine light or any other indicator that something was wrong. it happened again same day same thing. it worries me that i might be killed the next time. i called the ford dealership and was told this has happened to several of their customers but no recalls are on record. this is very dangerous and ford should take a close look at this before someone is killed or seriously injured. *jb
Car lost all engine power and would not accelerate going down the interstate. car was jerking and shaking. the car had a "wrench" light on the dash. engine codes were p2111 and p 2112. after researching online, the issue is the throttle body. it is a sealed unit and must be replaced. *tr
Vehicle intermittently shifts extremely hard at many different speeds and different gears. vehicle intermittently produces transmission flare at many different speeds and different gears. vehicle intermittently hesitates until gears engage. vehicle intermittently slips out of drive. *tr
I was driving home from work when my car stalled and a wrench light came on. i immediately pulled over to the side of the road, turned the car off and on, and drove to my mechanic. he drove around to try and re create the problem. after 100 or so miles it happened again and it turned out to be codes p2111 and p2112 which turned out to be throttle body codes. i had to pay to get the throttle body replaced because it is not covered under any warranty and is not a recalled part. *tr
While driving approximately 40mph on a six lane divided road, the wrench caution light appeared (indicating transmission/throttle malfunction). the engine rpm immediately dropped and began fluctuating around 1,000 and the vehicle began to shake violently. there was absolutely no response to accelerator inputs. the driver was able to maneuver the vehicle clear of traffic. the maximum speed that could be attained at the fluctuating rpm was 14 mph. it is a miracle the vehicle was not in rear end collision as the posted speed limit was 45mph. car was allowed to idle at the reduced rpm while driver inspected the engine and pressed the accelerator. the car was turned off and back on (with a little bit of trouble turning over). the incident occurred once on 26aug2013, four times on 13sep2013, and once on 14sep2013. the car has not been driven since the last occurrence. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic who recommended taking it to a ford dealership due to only having 1,400 miles left on the powertrain warranty. the service department was able to pull p2111 code. after receiving an exorbitant quote for the repair ($230 for part, $280 for labor) with no estimated delivery date for the backordered part, the repair was denied to allow for further research. the dealer has absolutely no qualms releasing the car with a known malfunction, presenting a hazard to the driver and others on the road. a car that immediately decelerates should be considered as dangerous as an uncommanded acceleration. to prevent serious injury/death, ford should issue and immediate recall for the failing throttle body. *tr
This is the third incident (different days) where i've been driving and the car starts to lose power. the wrench light came on and the car stutters and loses power. the past two times (different days), it happened once and i shut the car off and restarted and it was fine. today i went 3-4 miles in the city and it happened 5-6 times in a short period. i have a scheduled appointment with the ford dealership in our area. they said they do this same repair (throttle) 2-3 times a week. i am very frustrated and disgusted with ford. there have been numerous reports and still no recall. are they waiting until someone gets killed before they will do something? the dealership said it would cost about $500 and luckily they have the part in stock. *tr
Ongoing issue with acceleration developed into a malfunction in the throttle body. i had noticed intermittent stutters during acceleration and deceleration. this time, the car lost power to accelerate, vibrated violently, and forced me to pull over for fear of causing an accident. now it is recurring and although the code erases and it seems to be fine, it will suddenly fail to operate properly and cause me to cut out of traffic as quickly as possible. *tr
While going to first to second gear the engine suddenly shudders and i lost power and the "wrench" symbol on the dash came on. the engine was still running, very roughly, but would not accelerate. the brakes still worked and i pulled over. i was able to restart the engine with some difficulty. this has happened four times. the first time i thought i was in too low of a gear and stalled it. but since i realized it has only happened while accelerating and going from first to second gear. *tr
Car would stall while driving and the wrench and engine light would come on. went to autozone to get a free engine check code. it was p2111. upon further research, looks like ford had released a new throttle body part in its new versions without doing a recall on its past versions. hopefully this can help saves lives incase someone gets stalled on the freeway going 70mph +. *tr
My car died out in the middle of the road after picking up my daughter from school. luckily no one was injured... yet. there are thousands of reports of this same problem and ford acknowledges the part as defective, although there has been no formal recall. hopefully ford will do right by the american people before a horrible tragedy befalls a family due to their negligence. *tr
I was traveling on i-65 at approximately 65 mph in the far left lane when i lost acceleration. the throttle control/drivetrain malfunction light came on and i was rapidly slowing in dense traffic with nowhere to lull off on the left side. i was able to pull off to the right through 3 lanes of traffic as the car shut off. i called my mechanic who advised me to restart it and drive to safety if possible. i done so and the warning light was gone and the car ran normally. i took it to my father's who used a code scanner and found a saved code of p2111. this is the code for tac stuck open. after investigation i found that ford has numerous faulty throttle body units which require replacement. i believe the sheer volume of these issues are indicative of a bad product which produces a significant safety hazard. i could have stalled and caused a serious accident if i wasn't able to get to the right in time. this also could pose a risk if someone was turning left through traffic. *tr
Driving to work on a busy highway, going approximately 62 miles per hour, when my car just started to die. i went from 62 miles per hour, down to about 5 miles per hour in a few seconds, my wrench warning light and check engine light were on, i cannot believe that i was not rear ended or that i was not the cause of an accident. i pulled over to the side of the road as best i could, turned the car off. when i restarted it and tried to move, it chugged and there was not any power. i sat for about 15 minutes, and tried again, i was able to get another couple of miles to work. i took my car to the dealership and they stated that it was the throttle body, the cost is $425.00 plus tax to fix, made me sick. after seeing all of the complaints about this, i cannot believe that the throttle body is not a recall item, it is truly a safety concern. my car is a 2010 fusion, i had to spend $325.00 at 30,000 miles for new rotors, so this really is upsetting. *tr
This is the second incident where i've been driving and the car started to lose power. the wrench light came on and the car started stuttering. i was able to pull over to the side of the road and shut the car off and restart. it started a little rough so i turned off the air, and it drove fine. i'm seeing a lot of comments from others that they are having the same problem and it ends up being the throttle. i'm now deciding my next step. *tr
