Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2010 Ford Fusion

In a nut shell the car would not accelerate properly it kept dying out every time i would mash on the accelerator.went to autozone and had a scanner put on the vehicle and a number of codes came back pointing to the throttle accelerator control when looking for the part it came back as the entire throttle body. then come to find out the part had to be ordered, then it could nto be ordered from any retailer, went to the dealer one day to get the part and it was purchaseable, went back the next day to find it was a recall on that part went to another dealer to have the recall honored and they gave me this spill about the cost of a diagnostic test, saying it had to be done before they could know for sure if it was the throttle body. then later that day they call back saying it was some kind of air hose that a rat had chewed through. sounds like a bunch of hoorah to me. tell me what do you think. *tr

Transmission fluid leaks out of left side half shaft area. ford has issue a tsb for the problem. my car is presently at a dealership waiting on parts. parts are on national back order and ford presently cannot give me a date when parts will be available. *tr

Car has stalled out before a few times. this time, it chugged with the wrench light on, brown/grey exhaust. shut it off, tried again. the same. i inched my way over to the side of the street. so glad i was not on the freeway going to work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! recall this car so we can get our money back, or give me big discount on new different car/truck. poor workmanship on this year of vehicle. car of the year? what a joke. *tr

I was driving my kids home from school and as we were turning i pressed on the gas and it stalled, i pressed it again and nothing. then today same thing in the middle of the intersection thank god there wasn't a lot of traffic. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while attempting to accelerate from a traffic light, the vehicle failed to accelerate over 5 mph. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 5,000 and the current mileage was 5,300. *tr

We were stopped in heavy traffic in orlando 800 miles from home. the car would not accelerate so we limped into a gas station. a tow truck operator was at the gas station as well as a mechanic. they both said it is a very common ford throttle control failure. ford quoted us $1000 to fix the problem but a mechanic fixed it for $450. initially, he cleaned the throttle control and changed the spark plugs. it drove fine in test drive but failed again on our way to hotel. we purchased the part from greenway ford in winter park fl. they had 24 in stock because it is not uncommon to sell 12 a day since the problem is so common. the problem is now solved because we drove the car to toyota and traded it in. *tr

Went to pull onto interstate and when tried to accelerate the vehicle wouldn't speed up. also the engine rpm's would accelerate and cause hard shifts which has progressively gotten worse, the vehicle doesn't want to start when the fuel level gets low enough to turn the low fuel light on either. all of the above problems have gotten worse over the past month. *tr

I was driving at approximately 45 mph, when suddenly the car started to violently shake and decelerated to 10 mph. the "check engine" and wrench icon lights came on. i referred to my owner's manual, which directed me to take my car to the dealership. i drove slowly for 4 miles to the nearest ford dealership. they informed me that the issue was with the "throttle body" and said that is would need to be replaced at a cost of $550 (incl. parts and labor). i had the part replaced at that time and the problem appears to be resolved. *tr

Axle seal on drivers side had failed. i had to have seal and axle replaced, leaking large amounts of transmission fluid next to tire. axle was replaced with redesigned part at my cost. *js

Hard shifting and gear slipping due to fluid leak. *tr

While on the interstate going 70 mph i felt a loss of power in my fusion followed by a wrench light coming on. i was no longer able to accelerate and fortunately was on a stretch of the highway with a shoulder. after shutting off the car and restarting i was able to drive home. i had purchased an extended warranty and took it to have it looked at but since no lights were on no codes registered and i was told it was fine. the next day my car once again stopped working while i was on the interstate in the fast lane. very scary and dangerous. upon my second trip to the dealership it was determined the throttle body was defective and needed replaced. it appears this is a widespread problem that would have been nice to know about. *tr

Car had a defective throttle body that caused the car to lose power and shake. wrench light would come on. *tr

I noticed several times that the car tends to shift hard (automatic transmission). now i've had a problem with the transmission light coming on, the car stalling, and starts shimmying and shaking. had it back to the dealer on monday and they said they fixed it. however, this morning, i had the same incident occur. it is now back at the dealer to have it checked and hopefully fixed without any cost to me. i will be trading this ford for another make of car. i had similar problems when i owned a ford edge and traded it in. i also had problems with the ford edge mytouch screen going out on me as well. *tr

Merged on the highway heading to work. at approx 60 mph, or highway speed the car decelerated quickly and rpms dropped below 1,000. after a more pressure was applied to the accelerator, the car jerked then accelerated back to normal speed. once pressure was released the car's rpm dropped below 1,000 and started to decelerate quickly. all of this occurred during rush hour traffic. a friend of mine had the same issue and the ford dealership said the throttle body had to be replaced. there are many online forms that explain the same scenario i experienced with the same part malfunction. *tr

Backed out of a parking spot and proceeded forward. suddenly the car began to sputter and idle really badly. the wrench light came on and so did the check engine light. turned off the car and waited a few moment. after a minute or two, i turned the car back on and it was working fine for about 2 miles. then started to sputter again. wash, rinse, repeat the same above until i got home. after researching, found that the throttle body on these vehicles is a common malfunctioning part. *tr

I was stopped at a traffic light and when the light became green i proceeded to turn right through the intersection. after driving about 25 yards the car lost almost all power and the engine began to vibrate. the car moved forward in a jerking manner with little power (10%). all the dashboard indicator lights came on and then went off except for the wrench light which stayed on. i shut the engine off and waited about a minute before restarting. all indicator lights were off and the engine was vibrating and jerky while driving the first few feet and then all went back to normal. i am very concerned that i would be in a dangerous situation if this were to happen on the highway at a high speed. *tr

Traveling at speed in heavy traffic, the car shook and i lost all power. i was able to make it to the side of the road although several people had to swerve around me as i was going uphill and lost speed quickly. the "wrench" warning light was on. while the car would idle, nothing would happen when i pressed the accelerator. i shut off the car and was able to restart it. everything seemed fine and no warning light. i made it home safely with no more incidents and discovered many other people have experienced the same issue. i will be calling the dealer tomorrow to determine options for part replacement. i am very lucky that i was able to make it to the side of the road and not cause an accident considering the traffic situation. this should be a recall item! *tr

Driving along the interstate in my 2010 ford fusion se, it suddenly lost power with no acceleration, leaving my wife and i in a horrible position as we tried desperately to get to the side of the road without causing an incident. the issue was a faulty throttle body. in reading online, i see this is a very common issue with this vehicle. ford really needs to issue a recall in the vehicle. someone will get injured or killed because of this problem. *tr

Was pulling out of my road which is in a bad curve, so you need acceleration. the car lost all power, and was stuttering. wrench light on and still running just a bad stuttering. car barely misses me in the curve because i don't have enough momentum to get out of the road. i cut the car off and restart it, and it acted like it did not want to start but finally did. thank god. drove it back in our road and parked it. scared me bad. this is the only issue i have had with this car. but if i had known about it i would not have bought. over 400.00 estimate to fix throttle body. very upset this car has 52000 miles on it. *tr

This is the second time this is happening on my sons car. it happened five times today while driving home from his university for christmas break. each time it happens, the "wrench light" appears and then the car loses power. he had to pullover on the hwy each time and restart the car to get it to reset. this is very dangerous and it's happening to many ford fusions as i've been investigating this online. my son is only 19 yrs old and is not an experienced driver and i thought we were buying him a dependable car that we would not have to worry about him having problems like this. Lost power in the center lane of i-75, almost caused a large accident. car was rough idling in median. took it to a ford dealership, replaced the throttle body. fixed the problem. now i see there are many others that have had the same problem. needs to be a recall. this is very dangerous, i could have killed someone! *tr

Driving at 70 m.p.h vehicle just shut down. engine was at idle at 1000 rpm but vehicle would not pull off the roadway. wrench light came on. had to stop in the roadway put vehicle in park turn vehicle off then restart vehicle. vehicle ran like nothing had happened. then it started doing it over and over every 4-5 miles. n.c.c.c. has filed complaint. ford response in the most severe f.m.e.m. mode failure driver had engine power to allow vehicle mobility to maneuver to a safe location. (this is not true ) vehicle will stop in the roadway it does not have the power to pull the vehicle it idles @ 1000 r.p.m but it will not move. if ford would drive my fusion they would buy something other then a ford to drive . recall needs to come a.s.a.p. before someone gets killed. *tr

Couple months ago the car started to have problems shifting from one gear to another. the main problems was from 1 to 2. at a time, on a red light, the car didn't move for a few seconds even though the accelerator was being pressed. then the car suddenly jump and started going. the car started jump from one gear to another. later there was a transmission oil leak. and the car is getting worse there is no smooth transition between the velocities and the dealer said we had to paid for labor and parts. it seems unfair to have to pay for a manufacturer's issue. the transmission on this model is defective and there should be a check-out to this problem. *tr

Was driving about 40 miles per hour when the car started to stall as if it was running out of gas and wrench light (check engine) came on. pulled over to side of road and car began to violently shake. turned the car off, waited a minute, turned it back on and was able to drive it. two days later, driving about 25 miles per hour, exact same thing happened. four days later, 55 mph, same thing. it is now at the ford dealership and they are unable to find code. code was previously found as p2112 throttle actuator stuck open. i explained what was going on, the previous code, and that i have seen hundreds of complaints online about the same experience. apparently they cannot just replace the part if they don't experience it themselves, at least not to be covered by extended warranty. would appreciate a recall. dangerous to drive this car with my 11 month old in it. *tr

Power steering failure while driving. ford advanctrak awd failure. total loss of stability/traction control, abs, and steering. *tr

Car going into "limp" mode many times. my mother drives this car and has almost been hit because of it going into "limp" mode. throttle body assembly replaced at dealer to fix (had to pay for repair). *tr

first incident - i pulled out onto a main street & the motor cut out. also when i was on the interstate (going to work) was going about 65 mph...and the motor cut out. i had to pull over on the berm of the road- shut the car off & restart it. this is very dangerous as i cannot tell when it will shut down & where i am at on the highway...& if i can get off the road before someone hits me! this has happened a total of 5 times now & i am afraid to drive it for fear of getting hit by another car! (a wrench shows up on the instrument panel each time this happens!) *tr

Driving on straight away about 35 to 40 mph. lost power in the middle of the road with no time to pull over ,push on gas pedal nothing happened motor never died completely but had no power to move.then put shifter into park shut off vehicle waited a minute then restarted it ,ran fine after this for this 5 mile trip, but this is happening every different trip made ,every day, sometimes more than once a trip ,at different speeds. *tr

Driving on highway at approximately 60 mph when all power to the engine was lost. the vehicle decelerated quickly as i pulled over to the side of the road. an orange "wrench" light was illuminated on the dash, but no check engine light. engine was idling roughly and a loud misfiring sound was coming from the exhaust. no matter how hard i pushed the gas pedal, i could not get above 3 mph. i re-started the car, and the engine ran normally. however, the messages "service advancetrac" and "check brake system" appeared on the screen while two yellow traction control lights and the red brake light were illuminated. upon restarting the vehicle once more, both of these indicators were gone. i was able to drive safely to the dealer who didn't perform any diagnostics nor drive the vehicle, but was still "90% sure" that the problem is the throttle body. ford does not cover the throttle body under the 5 yr/60,000 mi powertrain warranty, nor will my aftermarket "exclusionary coverage" warranty by portfolio. the estimated cost to install a new throttle body is $321 without diagnostics. no repair has been done yet at this time, as i am waiting to hear back from ford motor company as well as the dealer that sold me the vehicle used. *tr

Saturday afternoon on 11/23/13 we were driving 57 mph when the car buckled and the little wrench came on. we were barely able to get off side of the road since there was a ditch beside us and we were on a state route so there were cars coming towards us and vehicles behind us. we waited a few minutes started the car and headed on our way. later on that same day around 10pm the car did the same thing and we had no power while trying to accelerate in the middle of the night and the little wrench comes on. this time there was less traffic at night so we were able to somewhat get off the road. again we sat there for awhile, started it back up and headed straight back to our house. since we know what the problem is already due to my wife having the same make, model, year of the car and her own mother having to replace the same thing. the dealership said it was the throttle body that needed replace. we are able to call the same dealership that my car was originally purchased from the same place where my wife got her car from and get the part needed. my wife's story with her car is a bit more intense while i was driving on the highway of 70 mph the car buckled and lost all power and cars were flying by almost not allowing me to get off the side of the road. almost got into an accident because of it. if they really want me to be a happy ford customer i would hope they would recall this knowing peoples lives and safety are at risk when the car loses all control while driving. only time will tell if i have to come back and voice another complaint. i come from a family of ford owners and i'm thinking it will stop with us. *tr

The vehicle lost power and began to shake and a wrench light came on the dash. i shut the vehicle off and restarted, at that point it was ok. many other complaints made in forums about this same problem, it needs to be addressed immediately by ford before someone is seriously injured or killed. from my research online, everyone that has had there vehicle checked stated it was a throttle body issue. *tr

This is approximately the 6th time this has occurred with this vehicle with no resolution from ford. while driving, the rpms will randomly dip drive, the engine and oil lights come on, and the car shuts down either to an idle, stall, or completely down. it will turn back on with no issues after powering down the vehicle and has no lights on upon restart. the problem with this is that it is intermittent and the codes are not being saved to the unit per ford. because of this, they state they cannot replicate the problem and therefore it cannot be fixed. this creates a tremendous safety hazard as the vehicle intermittently shut downs in the middle of driving with no warning and can cause serious injury or accidents. this has been occurring on and off now for months in which i have had to be at the dealership for the same issue almost monthly and still get no resolution. in addition, this appears to occur in most vehicles coming near their 60k mile warranty expiration in which ford will not cover the issue if it replicates after this time. *tr

I was on an on ramp on the way in to work in the morning when my vehicle lost propulsion. i was accelerating and then the accelerator became unresponsive and the engine idled roughly between 750-1000 rpm. the 'wrench' light came in and i was able to roll to the side of the freeway. i turned off and restarted my vehicle and the malfunction had apparently cleared as the issue has yet to return, but will. i say 'will return' because the exact same thing happen 23sep while on the freeway traveling 35mph during morning rush hour. i brought the vehicle to the local ford dealership for a diagnostic test ($) and they found nothing and had no ideas as to the potential cause. i was willing to accept it as a fluke, but now that it has happened again i know there must be a problem. i am hesitant to return to the dealership for another $80 diagnostic test when it seems that this is a prevalent issue... (nearly 95% of the complaints of this vehicle on this website). is there a recall in the works for this vehicle malfunction? *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the vehicle would not accelerate and lost power. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection but the cause of the failure could not be determined. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure .the failure mileage was 64,000. *tr

Nov 14, 2013 - burleson, tx - power train i had almost the exact same issue as the person who posted on 11/14 from burleson, tx. while driving home from work, the wrench light came on and the car seemed to go into neutral and stopped accelerating. i pressed the gas, but it didn't help. i turned on my flashers and did manage to pull into a nearby hotel parking lot. shifting it into manual, 2nd gear, as i was doing this seemed to provide a little power. i shut off the car and sat for a couple of minutes. when i restarted the car, it drove like normal, then repeated the issue after i made another stop on the way home about 10 minutes later. i have scheduled it for service for monday, 11/18 so i don't yet have the dealer diagnosis, but given the number of similar issues i'm seeing on this site, i wanted to get my incident in as well as it appears that this may be a recall issue, so my complaint very much mirrors the one from burleson, tx, where he or she found 10's of thousands of 2010 ford fusion owners facing or having faced this same issue. *tr

While driving home from work, the wrench light came on. the car seemed to go into a neutral drop and stopped accelerating. i pressed the gas, but there was no use. i had to turn on my flashers and pull over to the side of the road. i shut off the car and it shook for a few seconds. when i restarted the car, it drove like normal, and then repeated the issue. i took my car in to ford today, to fix the issue. i was called 6 hours later and told that the "throttle body" needed replacing. after researching this online, it appears that there are 10's of thousands of ford fusion owners (same year, same model) facing or had faced this same issue. i called ford, to see if there was a recall issued. the customer service rep said that there was not enough evidence to merit a recall. this is a safety issue if i had been on the freeway or a road with no shoulder, i would have been rear-ended for sure. this makes me question ford's commitment to quality and safety with their products. *tr

I own a 2010 ford fusion se. six weeks prior to november 13, 2013, the vehicle would sporadically shake or sometimes jerk! on the evening of november 13th, i was driving a short distance from home in the dark. i came to complete stop at a very busy intersection and the vehicle began to shake violently three times and then the engine stalled! i was stuck at a right turn lane with no place to pull over or to let any cars go by! in fact many drivers behind me were very impatient honking their horns and squeezing by around the corner! as i was panicking i noticed the battery and oil light on and did not noticed any other idiot lights on. i pressed on the accelerator and could not move, i noticed i could put the car in gear and luckily i was able to start the vehicle! i was able drive around the corner into the gas station, and all of a sudden the vehicle's transmission jerked and made a loud "clunk" noise while accelerating lightly, the vehicle "surged" thru the gas station, finding myself at a fast speed i had to slam on the brakes! that evening i went onto the internet and saw hundreds of complaints on the "electronic throttle body!" all of these customers had the same experience or very similar to mine! i was very scared to drive the car twenty miles to a local dealership. fortunately the vehicle made it there without stalling. the technicians ran a test on the "electronic throttle body"and to my surprise the vehicle passed with flying colors. also one of the technicians took the car home to see if it would happen again so the extended warranty would cover this expense with a rental car! for the safety of myself and others the "electronic throttle body" was replaced at my expense of $430.00. i knew the problem would not disappear or go away or improve and nobody's life is worth a few hundred dollars! *tr

The fusion will stall at highway speed. when driving the "wrench" light will come on and the gas pedal becomes useless and it is left to coast down the road. the only thing you can do is pull over, if possible and put it in park and shut it off. then the car shakes like crazy like the engine will explode if you don't shut if off fast enough. there entire time the tachometer is bouncing up and down and gas pedal is useless. putting it in park does not fix the problem. you have to shut down the car. once shut off, you can wait a few seconds and restart the car. this will usually start decent but sometimes will be hard to start. then it will drive normal. this has happened multiple times and 2 x today while on the interstate. there is no chugging or warning, it will just stop letting you use the gas pedal and starts shaking violently. i found out it is a problem with the throttle body. this is expensive to fix and dangerous if you don't as you can not always simply pull to the side and restart your car. not safe for me or my pregnant wife. fix the problem ford. *tr

Instance #3 (in 2 days). after i left the breakfast place (see instance #2), i drive about a mile and it started shaking again and would not go. i turned it off and restarted. this was at a light that just turned green in heavy atlanta morning traffic btw. ~~i drive it to the dealership and explained what it was doing. interesting thing is the service writer said he was pretty sure he knew what it was and said throttle body but could be the engine. ~~ he said he thought it was under warranty but i got a call later saying, sorry, no the throttle body is not covered under warranty. i did an internet search and found carcomplaints.com with five other owners of this made, year and model that had this same exact problem in 2013. add to this the service writer at the dealership knew what the problem was just by my initial description. why is this not a recall? a car suddenly loosing all propulsion is a danger to the driver and others. *tr

The car jerked hard once while traveling at highway speeds. the car then lost power and the wrench dashboard light came on. the car had to be guided to the shoulder in heavy traffic with no power. the car jerked and bucked very hard. when turned off the car restarted and the check engine light came on. this exact pattern has repeated several times at various speeds over the past 24 hours. *tr

We were traveling on highway at 65 mph when suddenly lost power, car was shuttering and "wrench" light came on. since we were going uphill at the time, we lost speed incredibly fast but managed to make it out of traffic lane and onto the shoulder. the car was turned off and then after a minute it restarted and ran ok but we're afraid that it isn't safe to drive until this problem is fixed. it would appear to be a faulty throttle body. *tr

Driving to work approx 40 mph, car began to sputter like it was running out of gas, but had 3/4 tank. wrench light lit up and lost acceleration immediately in the middle of an intersection. was able to coast to the side of the road. put car in neutral and tried to rev the engine - thinking maybe dirt in fuel line or fuel filter. no luck. the car did not stall, so i put in back in gear and was able to limp at negligible speed thanks to a slight downgrade to a parking lot nearby. after shutting off and restarting the car it seemed to run normally but i didn't want to risk driving it and stalling somewhere more dangerous. had it towed to the dealership. awaiting their diagnostics. sounds an awful lot like the other documented throttle body issues. *tr

While driving near my home at about 25 mph my 2010 ford fusion suddenly decelerated to about 2 mph and i had no control over the accelerator. since i was only about 100 yds from home i let the car creep along and as i reached my driveway, it suddenly bucked and briefly accelerated. i parked on the side of the garage rather than drive inside as i was afraid it might accelerate inside the garage. i had it towed to the dealer the next day. there it was diagnosed as having a faulty electronic throttle body. a brief online search indicated that this is a rather common problem in the 2010 ford fusion. i was very fortunate that is occurred on a quiet side street with no other vehicular traffic. it could have had tragic consequences had this happened while driving on the highway. *tr

I was driving at 65 mph on the highway and the car lost all throttle response all of a sudden. i had to turn on my hazard lights and coast to a safe spot to pull off. this happened 3 times in 2 days. the dealership says it needs a new throttle body which is not under warranty. i have researched online and found that there have been several 2010 ford fusions with this same problem. this is a major safety problem! there needs to be a recall on this part. all 3 times this happened i had to coast to get out of the way of traffic moving at highway speeds. had i been on a 4 lane highway in heavy traffic in a middle lane i would have had a hard time moving to the shoulder safely. *tr

My wife was driving home from work on interstate 85, she was in the middle lane, 70 mph at rush hour, a wrench light came on and the car lost all power, she almost got rear ended, and could barely get the car to the side of the road, it did start again after a few minutes, she got it to the dealer, they told her it was the throttle body, which had gone bad. *tr

Transmission fluid leaks seal at left cv joint. i took it to have it serviced due to slipping/ jerking when changing gears. total of repairs cost me over $500.00, 4 days later, seal is broken again and needs to be replaced again. ford needs to recall this vehicle...after seeing hundreds of exact same issue! *tr

I felt a jerk, like something may have hit me but there was no other vehicles around. i pulled over to the shoulder and as i did i notice a light had come on (little wrench) and the car just died. i sat for about 10 minutes and it restarted. have called around and seems to be a common factor for ford fusion to have to replace the throttle bodies. if there is a problem, why have they not been recalled? *tr

Accelerating from a complete stop at a stop light and the car started to shake violently and the wrench light came on, no acceleration occurred. turned the car off and on again and everything was fine except for the occasional jerky acceleration now. identified as probably the throttle body. *tr

I was driving south on i-95 in northern florida doing 73 mph.. my vehicle suddenly lost all power and would not respond to pressure on the gas pedal. the highway was under construction at the time and i had to make an emergency maneuver between safety cones to pull over to the shoulder. the dashboard displayed two warnings: a 'wrench' figure and the engine trouble light. i restarted the vehicle and tried to resume my journey. the same thing happened one minute later and i again had to make a desperate turn onto the shoulder. i had my vehicle towed to a ford dealer. after they checked the vehicle they told me the message that came up indicated the 'throttle body' needed replacement. the repair was not covered under their 5 year/60,000 mile powertrain warranty! i have since found out this part has been very problematic for this make/model. i believe this part should be covered and a recall issued. this part failure at highway speed causing a total loss of power is very dangerous and put my life in danger. please help me and other ford fusion owners. *tr

While traveling on the interstate at 70 miles per hour the car suddenly lost power. the wrench icon illuminated and the transmission felt as if it had disengaged from the engine. there was no throttle response. i was able to pull over to the side of the road without incident. i shut off the ignition. after about 3 minutes i restarted the engine. the wrench icon disappeared. the engine and transmission performed normally after that. *tr
