This isn't the 1st time that the engine has stalled after filling the fuel tank. most recent episode happened as i was preparing to enter the gas stations drive-thru car wash...i had my foot on the brake to enter the code for the wash and just as i started to move forward the engine stalled. happened a couple of months ago on the public right of way, i was stopped at a red light (just after a fuel up and just before i was about to enter the freeway). another time i was in motion and it stalled in the middle of a busy intersection. the stalling affects the transmission. the engine is warm when this occurs. it takes about 3 attempts to successfully restart. *tr
My car have mis fire cylinder 1 it shakes when it cold then after a while it goes away, transmission driving bad out of no where going only 30 miles the fastest in my car stuck in park. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the vehicle jerked followed by the illumination of the oil light. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where it was stated that the motor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 180,000.
While driving the vehicle the engine will unexpectedly stop. the event has happened several times. often it occurs after fueling. the vehicle has been into a garage for repair but the problem continues. sometimes when the event occurs the only way to restart the vehicle is to place the vehicle in park, press the accelerator all the way to the floor and turn on the ignition. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that after refueling, the vehicle suddenly stalled. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who believed that the failure was contributed to the motor oil. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
After filling up my fuel tank up for the first time the car was hard to restart. once the car started the she kept cutting out and even died twice. this happened while i was in traffic. since that time every time i filled the tank i have the same issue. i have had to resort to only filling the car up to 3/4 tank to avoid this issue. *tr
Stall/die/shut off after fill up under normal driving conditions while in drive and in motion. only happens right after fill up. once you burn some of the fuel out of the tank, it returns to normal. *tr
When traveling at hwy. speed the car loses power and shuts off and back on by itself. if im stopped at a red light and it does it i have to put it in park and crank it back up but then it takes a 10-15 seconds before it will go into gear. the problem use to happen once or twice in a day and then it may be 2 weeks before it would happen again. now the car is not drivable as it does this constant. i got a new front control module and drove it about 20 miles and it started again. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, a loud clicking noise could be heard as the vehicle stalled. the contact was unable to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to a private mechanic where it was found that the engine failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 88,000.
After refueling, the vehicle stalls and runs rough. usually requires restarting a couple of times before it eventually smoothes out. has stalled several times while on freeway after refueling nearly causing an accident. have been experiencing problem every time vehicle is refueled for the past 2-3 years. problem is becoming more serious. *tr
In the 2006 dodge charger r/t the car will completely turn off if the gas is full or close to full. this is a well known issue with the r/t model. dodge has known of this issue for years and also the dealerships. after filling the tank the vehicle will turn off in turn losing power steering brakes and engine power even while your foot is on the gas pedal. i have almost gotten into accidents due to this. i took my vehicle to the dodge dealerships and was told that this is a known problem and dodge refuses to call a recall. *tr
Was driving to my office and didn't get any warning and the car engine sounded real bad and once i got to my office to park it it killed . had to get someone to help me move the car out the middle of the parking lot and had to call a tow service to tow it to the shop and found out the engine failure. now i only had over 100k and they said the motor have to be replaced!! the piston hit the head and piston arm shattered and it cause my engine to fail!! now my car is park in the yard because of the cost of a new motor!!! i tried to see with dodge but the motor i have is on back order . so to me it seemed it should be recalled because of all the stories i read online with people having the same problems with motor failure of the 06 charger 5.7 hemi . *tr
After refueling engine stumbles and then stalls. this happens every time after refueling. often multiple times. power steering and brakes are inoperable after stall.this is an alarming and dangerous situation. *tr
Driving down the street and the car stalled and then died. has done it numerous times some at freeway speeds. today the car stalled just sitting in the driveway. *tr
2006 dodge charger rt (5.7 hemi) stalls suddenly when driving on highway. i placed car quickly in neutral and tried restarting twice before car started again. it is very scary now to drive on the highway. this issue continues to happen frequently. i noticed that it usually happens especially after filling up gas. *tr
This problem is related to the purge solenoid. the evaporative emissions system stores fuel vapors from the tank and then burns them in the engine, to keep the vapors from going into the atmosphere. when you fill the tank with fuel the air and vapor that the fuel displaces has to go into the evap system. there is a valve on top of the tank that allows the vapor out, but is supposed to shut off when liquid fuel hits it as the tank fills. what happens is this valve fails and it allows you to push liquid fuel into the evap system when you push too much fuel into the tank. this liquid fuel goes into the vapor canister and lines. when you start the engine a couple minutes later the purge solenoid will come on to do it's job and burn these vapors, but with this failed valve it sucks up liquid fuel instead, so the engine runs rough and can die at idle. the vehicle stalls for the next 5 miles or so whenever you take your foot off the gas, i.e. taking a turn or sitting at a traffic light. the vehicle bucks violently as well. when the engine stalls it cuts all power to the vehicle causing you to lose power steering and the abs. because the vehicle is vapor locked it will not restart immediately. my fear is that i am going to pull into traffic and be involved in an accident when my vehicle stalls and will not restart or i'll be injured when it happens taking a curve or turn. chrysler customer service center says they have no service bulletins on this issue and no one else has complained about. a quick internet search (dodge charger stall after filling with gas) shows it is a wide spread issue not only with the charger but the magnum and chrysler 300 as well. only way to fix issue is to replace the entire gas tank which is a $900 part with 2-3 hours labor. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. while driving approximately 50 mph, the contact noticed a loud clicking noise as the vehicle suddenly stalled. the contact was able to restart the engine and noticed that the check engine warning light was illuminated. the warning light illuminated intermittently. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 63,693.
At least three times my 5.7 liter hemi has stalled while driving. it has always stalled at low speeds (i.e. under 35 mph) and sometimes as slow as 15. every time is has occurred while driving from stoplight to stoplight with a light throttle application. it has occurred at least once after filling up. i also don't know if this is related, but probably between 6-10 times now while driving at highway speeds (50-70 mph) the entire dashboard (i.e. tach, speedometer, engine temp, and fuel gage) all die. what happens is they all seem to lose power, all needles fall to 0, or their turned off position, then once they hit the stops they all power back up again, swing back to where they were, all the warning lights come on, and then extinguish after a couple of seconds. this entire time there is not change in speed, or the engine, when i am in cruise control, this does not seem to affect the cruise control. *tr
Overheated and blew the top radiator hose, fixed it with an oem hose from dealership next day and i topped of the fluid and " burped" it and got all the bubbles out. same day it was fixed i was in a drive thru line at a fast food place and it was still overheating even with my heater turned all the way up to relieve some heat stress from the motor so i had to keep shutting off the car and restarting it to move up in the drive thru line just so the gauge never reached the red line on the temp gauge and i finally received my food and then it did not want to start or anything so due to the fact of common courtesy of the other customers in line did not want to hold them up i jumped out and pushed my car out of the way and into a parking spot and that's when the injury happened by pushing it i injured my back severely. after it was in a parking spot i tried once again to start it and it started but with a loud knock coming from the motor, and black and white smoke from the tailpipes. so i had it towed to my house and had my friend whom is a mechanic at the local dodge dealership come over and look into it for me just to find out a valve seat dropped and damage the internals on my motor. this is a well known problem now with dodge with many complaints around the world so why the heck isn't this problem being recalled???? just so anyone who reads this knows, my car is a 2006 dodge charger r/t 5.7l hemi with only 110,000 miles on it and dealership maintained so this kinda stuff wouldn't happen but what do you know good ol dodge screwing there customers by not fixing the problem. first and last dodge product i will ever own!!! *tr
I was traveling on the highway and my car stalled and had to coast to the shoulder in august 2012. this again happened may 2013. the last incident occurred september 21st pulling out of a parking lot. the car started back up after each occasion. *tr
I was driving my vehicle and it started smoking i pulled over . called mechanic had it towed to the shop where he later told me the motor was blown . second incident there's a beeping sound and all my gauges keeping going crazy on me .third incident that pink piece inside the gear shift actual was stuck and came lose so it was removed and the car is able to be put into gear . *tr
Nearly every time i refuel the vehicle it stalls 4-6 times in the first 5 miles. this has left me in turns without power steering, on highway on ramps without power steering or brakes, and sitting in busy intersections attempting to re-start the car. it is worse if i turn left after gassing up - car will immediately die while in the intersection. this has happened approximately 30 times in the last 10 months. *tr
The car will stall within a minute or so of filling up the gas tank. this has happened about 95% of the time i filled up the tank. if i feel the stall coming on i can throw it in neutral and rev the engine for about 10 seconds and it won't stall anymore. i first began to notice it at least 8 months ago. i stopped filling the tank all the way just to avoid this because it caused me to stall while going thru an intersection and backing up traffic. i was told i needed to buy a new gas tank to rectify this issue. *tr
The engine stalls while idling or driving at low speeds, especially around corners. problem only occurs when gas tank is full or near full. this is a safety issue and needs resolved immediately. *tr
Re:pe13-016 re: dodge/chrysler x53 - 19 fuel tank vehicle began shutting off about a mile down the road after refueling. upon receiving "extended warranty" letter from chrysler - may 8, 2014, called dealer to have part replaced. part has been on "backorder" for last 2 months. i keep getting told "you are next in line to receive part" from the dealer and the dodge customer service center toll free line. this is unacceptable when you are driving down the road and for no reason or fault of yours, the car begins to stall or cut off completely. my car has cut off while making a turn across two lanes of traffic - luckily no one was coming and i was able to coast across the lanes..."safely". my car has cut off going down the road at 40-50 miles an hour. this is a very dangerous situation. and truth be know, this needs to be a recall and handled promptly by chrysler. i have several documented calls into chrysler. no one can tell me when part will be ordered or sent to dealer or status of situation. please help consumers get this problem escalated. thank you. *tr
I got off work started car put on seat belt. put foot on brake and tried to move gear shift it wouldnt move out of park. there are so many complaints of this issue. *tr
After filling up with gas the vehicle will stall out and die. especially after a stop or making a sharp turn. if you fill the tank halfway or 3/4 the problem does not happen. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that after replacing the battery, the vehicle continuously stalled with the illumination of the throttle warning light. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the technician was unable to find a failure. the manufacture was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 110,000 and the current mileage was 140,000.
This issue relates to pe13-016. my 2006 dodge charger fuel tank cannot be filled to over 3/4 capacity. when it is filled beyond this level, the engine will stall, particularly after making a lh turn. i have been enduring this problem for years and have become fairly adept at re-starting my car in heavy traffic conditions and fortunately have not been involved in any collisions as a result. i understand chrysler negotiated a settlement with nhtsa to treat this as an extended warranty condition before a full blown recall order was issued. however, even though chrysler acknowledges that being a 2006 charger with a 5.7l engine matches all the criteria to be included in the extended warranty, my vehicle's vin is not included on the list of effected vehicles and refuses to correct the problem. there is obvious culpability and chrysler's part and they appear to be hiding behind an administrative technicality to avoid doing what they agreed to do in their settlement of pe13-016 with nhtsa. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that while driving various speeds, the engine stalled without warning. the vehicle was restarted and resumed as normal. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where they were unable to detect a trouble code. the failure occurred numerous times. the manufacturer was not notified of the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 30,000. ..updated 08-07-13 *bf
I was driving the car at 60mph on the expressway when the engine quit with no warning causing the car to lose all power in heavy traffic. my car was nearly hit several times by other cars as i tried to change lanes in order to reach the emergency lane on the right side of the expressway. i restarted the car with no problems. the car engine has quit for no reason several other times with no warning in the last year while driving at different speeds. the manufacturer needs issue a recall, or be liable for any lawsuits resulting from accidents caused by defective fuel systems in these vehicles. *tr
I was traveling along the interstate and noticed a hesitation in my automobile due to a seized up engine. just before it seized up i heard a knocking sound coming from the engine. the car would not start. the car was towed to a garage. the service person did an investigation an informed me that the engine was damaged and would need a complete overhaul or replacement. i was told by the machanic that the engine in the vehicle is notorious for failure due to a malfuctioning oil pump or defective connecting rod bearing. i did some research an found that there is a recall associated with a failed connecting rod bearing. one of my co-workers experienced the same thing with his automobile which is a chrysler/dodge product. this engine is a safety hazard in that by seizing up while in motion it could cause the driver to loose control of the vehicle resulting in serious injury or death. *tt
I own a 2006 dodge charger r/t with the 5.7 liter hemi engine. i purchased it new in june of 2006 with 5 miles on the odometer. after 6 years of filling up my car by letting the gas pump stop automatically with no issues; the car began to stall right after filling-up when topping off the tank, starting around may of 2012. i called autonation dodge in roseville, california and the service technician was familiar with my issue. he asked if i had filled up the tank by topping it off. i told him, affirmative. he advised me to not top off the tank at all during fill-ups or to buy a new fuel tank at the cost of $2000-3000 with installation. for the past couple of years, i've been lucky to not top off the fuel tank, but it has occurred at least 4 times when i made the mistake of topping off the gas. the last time this occurred was yesterday. after buying gas and having the pump stop automatically, i drove into a major intersection and stopped at the red light. the car turned off, and it took about 3 tries of re-starting the ignition in park before the car luckily powered on again. when my light turned green, the car would jump and lose power while shifting into second and third gears. i was very fortunate to not have any cars behind me, because this issue of the car stalling could cause an accident. this stalling hazard happened again yesterday on my way home and also this morning. i feel chrysler/fiat should replace all effected 2006 dodge charger r/ts with this issue by replacing the tank or whatever repair it would take to fix this safety hazard. i feel that most owners of this vehicle won't be aware of this issue until it happens to them personally. it should be mandatory for chrysler/fiat to issue a recall with all expenses covered by the manufacturer. *tr
First instance was on sunday, 6 may 2012. car stalled after turning onto city street while accelerating to posted speed: 35 mph. if fuel tank is filled to click on gas pump (full tank) this continues to happen, especially in very humid weather conditions/rain. car has also stalled on hills at stop signs or traffic lights and has stalled at on-ramps to local interstate highway/city bypass, given the above full fuel tank issue. if i don't fill the tank above the 7/8 mark on the fuel gage indicator, the car does not stall. if i exceed the 7/8 mark, then the car does stall, multiple times if very humid conditions exist and will continue until the fuel tank is at or below 7/8 capacity. i've had approximately 22 stalls since sunday 6 may 2012. it's inconvenient to have to guess when to stop the fuel pump at gas stations and very frightening to stall in traffic, especially at on-ramps to highways. *tr
I was driving my 2006 dodge charger (53k miles on the odometer) with the 5.7 hemi engine at approximately 75 mph (posted highway speed) when i began to hear a rattling sound. i immediately pulled over just before a sharp curve in the road, but as i did the engine shut down and the steering wheel locked up and all the lights on the dash came on. i attempted to start the car again and the key turned but the engine did not respond. had i not pulled over and begun to cut my speed when i did the engine would have shut down as i was negotiating a sharp turn in the road up ahead. the car was towed to a certified mechanic who stated that the engine had blown a valve and the entire engine would have to be replaced. i have researched dodge charger forums and this is a common problem with these cars and engines at approximately 40k-60k mileage. in each posted instance it states that the engines broke down from valve failure. this is a very dangerous problem because it is common and it can lead to accidents if these engines fail at high speed and cause the cars electronics to shut down. chrysler sshould. *tr
I have a 2006 dodge charger rt 5.7l with about 100k miles on it. for the past year or so my vehicle will act as if it is cutting off and then will start back up immediately. my dash lights flash and i hear a chime each time this happens. on other occasions, my vehicle will cut off completely while idling at a stoplight, intersection, stop sign, etc. my vehicle will also cut off and right back on when i try to accelerate and other times it will cut off completely. this is really scary when it cuts off as i try to turn as a vehicle is coming, hoping the vehicle sees me and doesn't t-bone me in the middle of he street as i try to get the car running again. i really hope dodge finds out what is causing this and at least inform their customers how to fix it or better yet, issue a recall and fix a problem that they know exists. *tr
After refueling, the car stalled upon moderate acceleration. i thought it was a one time issue, but took it to a dodge dealership after the third incident. they could find nothing wrong with the car. after extensive research online, i found that the problem is apparently with a purge solenoid valve that cannot be replaced without the entire gas tank being replaced, as well as the evap canister. the car has been doing this more and more frequently, almost to the point of doing it every fill up. if it doesn't stall when the engine is restarted, it does it randomly within a few minutes of driving. either while accelerating, or cruising. this is a large safety issue, as my wife drives this car into the city of cincinnati for work, and the car has stalled after she refuels. we are not leaving the engine running during refueling, and we are not topping off the tank. i have done research online and it appears to be happening to several people. this problem has occurred sporadically on multiple occasions, and i have barely avoided crashing a few times when the car stalled while i was turning. the car is a 2006 dodge charger r/t with the 5.7l hemi engine. *tr
After fueling my 2006 dodge charger r/t, the car will begin to sputter and completely shut-off. this results in the loss of power steering and having to put the car into park in order to restart. it will occur multiple times, sometimes while idling, before it will begin to act normally.it has been happening for several months. at first, it was sporadic but now it is everytime i fill up the gas tank. it can be very dangerous as it can happen anytime and without warning. *tr
5.7l hemi engine. for the past 2 yrs, engine will stall after filling-up the gas tank. this doesn't happen after every fill-up, but occurs at random fill-up intervals. the engine will stall multiple times until it's burned off approximately 1 gallon of gas, then operates normally. stalling mostly occurs when vehicle comes to a stop. however, i've had several instances when the stall occurred on the highway at 60 mph. *tr
Every time you fill up the gas tank the car wants to stall. i'm told there is a solenoid in the gas tank that fails and it lets raw fuel go to the evap canister causing a stall condition. this solenoid valve is molded into the gas tank and the only way to fix it is to replace the gas tank. this stall can happen while your sitting at a stop light or just pulling out into an intersection. the intersection situation is very dangerous. *tr
The car stalls while driving. it completely shuts off with a loss of all power. shifting to neutral and restarting while in motion typically works to regain power. this has happened numerous times over the last several months, with no pattern as to when or why. the car has been taken to the dealer twice to no avail. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle suddenly stalled. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 35,000.
I just read an article on yahoo stating an investigation in the 2006 dodge charger engine stalling. for 2 years i had this problem and it was inadvertent but dangerous, especially when driving interstate speeds. the engine would stall out, almost like you turned the key off and then back on. it almost cost me a wreck on the interstate. it would also do it at idle speeds but at that rpm it would kill the engine. i took it to the dealership on numerous occasions and because the problem was intermittent they were unable to diagnose it. when it finally got worse, i was told it needed new plugs. i changed them and it didn't fix the problem. then they changed all 8 coils and it didn't fix the problem. finally as a last resort they replaced the computer and it fixed the problem. this whole process cost me about $4,000. a month and a half later the transmission started dragging and not shifting properly, so instead of going through the same process again i decided to get rid of the car. *tr
The vehicle occasionally hesitates, stutters and stalls shortly after fuel fill-ups. there are times this occurs pulling out from the fuel station, and times where it occurs a few miles down the road. this is very dangerous when the cars stalls in traffic (merging, turning, etc.). *tr
In the last year i have had to have the front tie rods replaced three time. at certain speeds my vehicle will vibrate. going over speed bumps or into even the slightest pot hole the vehicle will vibrate. when slowing down or coming to a stop the front end will vibrate. took the vehicle to the dealership and they advised my front tires needed to be changed and/or rotated to the back due to an unusual wearing on the tires. the wear was on the outside of the tires.the gear shifter was in park position and there it stayed was unable to shift gear to anything and had to take the console around the lever apart to shift gears. and the brakes squeak all the time even after having them replaced and the rotors replaced as well as the struts. when the car is sitting in idle, the lights dims as though there is a shortage in the electrical system. i let my 17yr old daughter drive my car to school and when she got to a red light the engine shut off. this is dangerous, so i don't let her drive the car anymore. my seatbelt light stays on & beeps when the seatbelt is connected. these are all safety issues & chrysler should be held accountable. these issues needs to be addressed. *tr
2006 dodge charger r/t. this has been going on for years, i read about others having similar issues and decided to contribute mine as well as it happened again the other day when i accidentally refilled all the way. when you fill the tank all the way, the vehicle stalls immediately and will continue stalling until the gas tank is no longer "completely full." the only easy way to fix without taking something apart is to repeatedly restart the car until enough gas burns off. even with taking care to not fill the tank all the way, going up certain hills seem to cause the stall as well. no check engine light, just power cuts off. one single chime from the car as the oil light turns on. you can restart it but obviously this is bad when it happens in traffic. seems to stall most at stoplights and other idle conditions but can also stall in low speed scenarios. never got fast enough to tell if it would happen there too. according to both independent mechanic and dealer, this is a valve inside the fuel tank which would require an expensive fuel tank replacement to fix - the mechanic said they had seen a lot of them, but there was no recall so it would be at my expense to fix. *tr
Not long after refueling the car stalled while driving down the street and was hard to restart and then stalled 2 more times within minutes. this has happened at least 5 more times and always shortly after refueling the vehicle. *tr
On july 4th 2009, after refueling my 2006 dodge charger r/t (5.7l hemi with approximately 38,000 miles), it stalled while driving at approximately 45mph. it ran/idled rough when restarted. since the first incident, it repeats the stalling issue randomly after refueling and has continued until current day (5/14/2013). it has stalled several times in the middle of intersections, causing dangerous situations that put my life, as well as other drivers in danger, but usually stalls when stopping at stop/yield signs. after refueling, it is unsafe for me to try and merge onto the freeway unless i circle town on low speed city roads until the car stalls or i feel it will not be an issue at the time - this is a gross waste of fuel that should not be necessary but under current circumstances, it is. through my own investigation thru on-line sources and members within my local car club, i have found the issue to likely be a faulty roll-over valve within the fuel tank, which is non-serviceable and requires replacing the entire fuel tank (about $750~900 for parts and 3~6 hours of labor). *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. after refueling and driving at a low speeds, the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a dealer multiple times who diagnosed that the key, a sensor and multiple parts needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired multiple times however, the failure persisted. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.
I was driving when my car seemed to stall and start back. the most scariest times are on the freeway. i've been in the fast lane and had it happens car stalls and kicks back on. i've taken my car to dodge dealers and they can't figure it out. i love my car but i'm really getting sick of them not fixing the problem. i'm having the same problem as everyone else so i'm not going to type it up in detail. but there is no reason why a car can stall itself and restart back up with no trace it ever happen. it's dangerous to the driver and passengers and incoming traffic. my car has been checked from the engine own and its showing nothing. my car is currently at chapman dodge chrysler and jeep and i got the call today saying its nothing showing wrong. it seems its electrical because when it happens it loses power and when i starts back on it has a kick to it. i'm just asking for it to be fix before someone gets killed. *tr
