Problems with 2006 Dodge Charger FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

On average, the 2006 Dodge Charger starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM and its various aspects after 89 530 miles.

Recently reported FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM problems on 2006 Dodge Charger

Car stalls after fill up. pull into traffic and you lose steering breaks ect. need to put in park to restart. will continue and miss and stall for about 5 miles. once you run some fuel out of the car it runs exceptional until the next fill up.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled when the fuel tank was filled up completely. the contact was able to restart the vehicle with no further issues. the contact called the manufacturer and was informed that the vehicle was not included in a recall. the manufacturer informed the contact to call nhtsa. the dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failuire mileage was 64,000.

Vehicle stalls and dies 6-8 times immediately after filling tank with fuel. it does this every time i fill it. purchased car on 7/27/2019. recall on airbags actuator was repaired at dealership but is not showing as documented on your website.

Sometimes after filling the fuel tank full with gasoline, when driving the car, the engine stalls and quits. it can be a bit difficult to restart. i have only had this happen on city streets because those are the only places i normally drive.

My 2006 dodge charger has developed a stalling issue every time i fill with gas. i have tried different things as far as not filling to the top or not topping it off with gas. i filled with gas along an interstate and when i was trying to get on the interstate it quit on me down the off ramp when i was to merge with traffic. was able to get car to the side of the interstate and re-start but died again. started again and then it ran with no issues. now it has issues every time it is gassed up. i filled up yesterday and same thing died out at a stop sign trying to get on the highway. i have heard this is a big issue with these cars and i'm surprised that there hasn't been anything done to dodge to fix this issue. i've heard it could cost up to $1,500 to fix. i like the car but it is a safety issue to drive it. please help! thanks

My 2006 dodge charger rt with the road and track option will intermittently loose power and often die after filling gas tank. even if you don't completely fill it still will die unexpectedly. i never top the tank off with more gas. in addition when car dies going around a curve, the power steering goes out making driving really dangerous. the engine dies at nearly any condition. when traveling at highway speed, after accelerating after stopping. it happens most during acceleration after turns.

After refueling vehicle it will stall at low steeds. sometimes it will stall at a stop and others when making a turn it will completely shut off. this has been ongoing for the past 3 years so it mostly the car sits in the garage.

Power shuts off randomly, stalling, acceleration lost, but will fire right back up if you flip the key around or put in neutral. very unsafe if traffic coming and it shuts right down. also while in park it's shuts off

-the sunroof will not always close all the way. it will reopen itself upon exiting -my car stalls often whenever i accelerate, it seems the gas has to "catch up" this uncomfortable/unsafe.) home. also, it is embarrassing for my car to 'conk out'. - i am

Recently, after pumping gas into my car and after driving for a few moments, the car stops as i approach a stop sign or a light. this has happened to me immediately after at least 3 recent gas fill-ups. i shut off my car and start it up again and after driving a short period, it happens again. this only happens after i pump gas into my vehicle (2006 dodge charger r/t). this has happened on city streets as i am fearful of going on the expressways with the possibility of it stalling and stopping. i believe there is a faulty valve or gas tank situation.

After filling gas a check engine light comes on and the vehicle stalls while being stopped at lights. the vehicle has had all emissions components replaced except for the evaporator canister and fuel tank. unknown as of yet if the vehicle stalls under highway conditions, but close to being hit in the rear when vehicle stalls at traffic lights.

After filling up gas tank (not topping off at all) the car will stall randomly for about 15 minutes after fill up even while driving at higher speeds. very dangerous. steering is lost and even when restarting it takes a second for the transmission to engage when putting the car in drive. this has been happening with my vehicle for about a year now.

Filled up tank. drove car for 1/2 hour approx 30 miles. while making a left hand turn at a low rate of speed the car stalled, shut it self off. the oil lamp and traction control light came on. car would not fire back up. took a few attempts. upon restarting the car was running rough. continue driving at very low speed attempting to turn into parking stall car again stalled and shut it self off. felt the car was unsafe to drive home. had it towed.

After filling up with fuel my charger will stall. it has happened 5 or 6 separate occasions over the past 2 years. i generally do not fill the car up all the way because of this. however just today i had the same problem after accidentally filling it. i do not top off the car when filling once the nozzle clicks off i stop. today after getting gas i went to pull out into traffic and the car stalled. the power steering would not work the engine shut off and i was stranded halfway out into the lane of oncoming traffic. i put the car in park and restarted it and drove about 20 feet before it shut off again. this is a huge safety issue. i thought i was going to be hit. i did manage to get the car home which is about two miles away but i had to restart it four more times. i've got roughly 80,000 miles on the car i have always kept up with maintenance and with any repairs that needed to be done. i searched online to see if there was a recall for this problem but there doesn't seem to be even though a lot of people seem to be having the same problem not only with the chargers but with three hundreds as well

Car shuts off without warning while in motion after filling gas tank. power steering goes out as well. very dangerous as the driver has no warning...

Car will shut off going 45 mph, at a stop light (0 mph) or when crossing traffic intersections for examples (at most going 10 or 15 mph). i will attempt to restart and the car will start up, stall up and then shut off again - when this happens, i lose power steering. i have to switch gears from drive to park and then turn the car off and then on again in hopes it will start. as you're driving, you can feel when the car is about to cut off, it throttles ahead a bit and revs, then the car beeps and turns off, while the gear is in drive and turning my wheel does nothing. i notice that this issue would usually happen after a fill up my gas tank, so i started only filling up halfway ,but the issue still persists. this issue became heavily frequent yesterday where the car stalled and cut off at least 4 different times while making a 7 mile drive back home. this was very very scary in my eyes, especially with a passenger in my seat. this is a huge safety concern because the vehicle is shutting off while in motion and powering steering is lost. if this happens on the highway going 60+ miles per hour, or turning into oncoming traffic, there is a guaranteed accident, possibly resulting in serious injury or death. i believe there is an issue with the gas tank and the evap canister that causes the sensors to think that gas is overfilling the engine, which shuts off the car. this was filed under nhtsa pe13-016 (which appears to be closed or inaccessible- https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/cs/documentlist.xhtml?docid=pe13016&doctype=inv). this safety concern really needs to be looked into.

After fueling gas tank to full level the car starts and runs fine for approximately two blocks down the street then the engine abruptly shuts off and stalls in traffic (dangerous). the vehicle requires restarting twice more before it will run normally. this happens every time the gas tank is fully filled. no problem if the tank is filled less than full. this has occurred the last three times gas tank was fully fueled. 2006 dodge charger srt8 6.1l hemi.

I have had this 2006 dodge charger for a while .now it's been stalling and sometimes shutting off for no reason. me and my 3 year old grandbaby was at a red light and the light turned green, i started to go car stalled and shut off. no was behind me at the time, so i was trying to get it to start, when i looked up . saw a truck flying up on us. thank god no one was beside us or he would of rear ended us. my boyfriend is a mechanic.he has worked for chrysler for over 32 years. he can't seem to find the cause of it. no codes nothing. he can't talking to half of the bus. we replaced throttle body, tcm, pcm and some other things. still nothing has helped. i have owned two other chargers. this one is a night mare. please do something. i'm getting to the point i'm scared to drive it.

Takata inflators. when i fill the tank with gas and start driving it will sputter, jerk and stall. when it stalls and i finally get it started, i press on the gas lightly it doesn't move and then it lunges forward. this just started in the last month, but it now happens every time i fill the tank for about the first 20-30 miles driven. i've read that his is an issue with these cars. i also see the warranty has been extended to many vehicles regarding this issue but on this particular car there is no recall for this vin. the car has 57500 miles on it.

The vehicle stalls while driving, no matter the speed, and the power steering goes out when vehicle stalls preventing me from being able to steer the vehicle. this has happened several times, even on the interstate with other fast moving vehicles behind me, and is very dangerous. i have had different parts replaced trying to fix the problem, and was told the entire fuel tank will have to be replaced to solve the problem. i went online to see if other dodge owners experienced the same problem, and was amazed at the thousands of people complaining about the exact same thing. this website is one of many. https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t4117_ds539199 the problem seems to start after 90,000 miles. there should be a recall to fix this problem before someone gets killed.

Filled up my 2006 dodge charger 5.7l hemi v8 today and i got out of the gas station parking lot then it stalled out and died. i had my two small children with me, and i was on an extremely busy houston street having to try to get my car home with it repeatedly dying anytime i had to slow down to come to a stop at a light or accelerate from a stop. this has never happened before, and the vehicle was running fine until i filled it up. i did not over fill, i never top off.

Car stutters and shuts off after i fuel up my 19gal gas tank. car turns off when idle after fueling up. did see that for my make and model and year of car there were warranties extended for gas tank to be replaced with the same issue, never received a recall for my vehicle. and dealership will not touch my gas tank.

My car has a constant smell of exhaust fumes in the cabin. this odor is most prevalent when you first start the car and remains.the odor is strongest when the car is started and the ac is on, the odor is made worse by switching the ac selector to pull in air from outside the vehicle. this greatly concerns me because i dont want to be engaging deadly methane fumes.dodge told me they would diagnose the issue for 130 but i feel a safety risk such as this should be examined free of charge by the manufacturer before some is poisoned or dies

The car stalls after filling up the fuel tank. dodge has extended the warranty on these tanks but says my car is not covered. this is a safety issue, i have had it stall on the highway and in traffic. i don't understand why this isn't a safety recall.

The car stalled as i was driving. i have looked up this issue before and people have said it has something to do with the fuel tank. a dealership has replaced the fuel tank a few months back and today it stalled again. this is the first time this has happened since replacing the fuel tank. it appears this is a bigger problem than just the fuel tank. there should be a recall placed before people are seriously hurt and/or killed. the car shuts off while driving. if it is on the freeway then it'll be catastrophic on what can happen. the car also loses steering when it shuts off causing a bigger problem.

Every time i get gas and start the engine, it jerks and dies after driving a few hundred feet. i start it again and it keeps doing the same thing repeatedly. i'm afraid to pull into traffic because i don't know when it's going to just stop running. i feel this is a very unsafe situation. it has been going on for about 2 years now. last night was the most recent occurrence.

There is deterioration in the upper parts of the filler pipe. the vent (can't recall the proper name) causes the sensors to think that gas is overfilling which shuts off the car (like some cars that will not start if the gas cap is not on completely.) replacing this part will not solve the problem long term.

Every time i fill car with fuel right after fueling it dies . sometimes 2-3 times. can be hard to restart. already replaced evap solenoid did not correct. this is know issue with fca vin range should be expanded.

After every time i fill up the gas (not top off)the car stalls out

For the past couple of months when i fill up or top off in gas, as soon as i start to drive the car eithe stalls or completely cut not while driving. i'm bieber has happened while in the highway after fueling up as well as on the city streets. due this malfunction, i have almost been rear ended.

My dodge charger cuts off while driving or while sitting at stop lights. i am able to start up again but then it shuts off at the next stop light or while driving on the interstate. there is no trouble codes or check engine lights.

After filling up, my car engine stalls. i took it to the mechanic and was told chrysler knows about it. i looked it up on your site and indeed found pe13016 but disagree with the finding being that it is a low safety issue. this has happened multiple times where i would be in the middle of traffic and the engine stalls and shuts off and the steering locks up where i can't steer the car whatsoever. the mechanic told me that it was due to a fuel vapor lock in which the evap valve stays open and due to it, the engine runs rich because of the fuel. i was told not to overfill in which i have stopped, however, this happens just by filling up. i have had to rev the engine to burn off gas until the engine stops stalling. every time, i've stopped traffic in the middle of the road and it has happened at night as well where visibility is low and almost got hit because my car stalled. it has also happened right before turning in a busy intersection and thankful that it happened right before i made the turn. every time it has happened i've been in motion on a city street and a few times on a highway but every time i was about to turn. the first time it happened, i didn't know and got the tow truck to tow the car and had the police to come behind me because in his words, i was in an unsafe location, so that no other oncoming vehicles would hit me. the date that i placed on when it happened is the last date it has happened thus far as of this writing.

Shortly after fill up the car will die. this has happened multiple times after filling up and it has happened after multiple fill ups. the car will start moving and i will begin driving when the car dies and i lose power steering. i took it to a mechanic and they said that it is a known safety issue with 2006 dodge chargers. the fuel tank and the evap canister needs to be replaced.

Vehicle stalls after filling up, especially on turns at slow speed. it happened several times intermittently.

Car stall 3-4 times after refueling then runs fine until next refueling

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. after filling the vehicle with fuel, it stalled in traffic. sometimes the vehicle would restart, but other times the contact would have to crank the vehicle several times to restart it while in traffic. the dealer (sterling chrysler jeep dodge ram, 5504 i-49 frontage rd, opelousas, la 70570, (337) 942-1241) and the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall. the vehicle remained parked at the contact's house with no repairs completed. the failure mileage was 170,000.

Pump a full tank and the car stalls at low rpm on a city street when in motion and not in motion happen about 6 time after i put a full tank been goin on for about a month

When i fill up the gas tank of my vehicle, starts properly and runs good for a few minutes then stalls, pull to the side of the road, start again and runs fine for a few more minutes and then it does it again, vehicle is in motion or stationary, it happen also twice when turning and power steering went out almost ran out of the road the first time and the second had to apply brakes hard in order to avoid collision with another vehicle, very un-safe and dangerous. when driven about 40-60 the problem goes away and then starts all over when gas tank is filled up again. i do not have photos, police report or any other documentation to upload and hope not to have any to get this issue resolved.

While driving after filling gas tank to full, vehicle stalled twice on way home. both occurrences happened within a 5 minute period. both occurrences happened with the vehicle in motion, on a city street.

1. after filling the tank the car is subject to engine shutting off periodically. 2. car is stuck in park and cannot be gotten out of park

I been online looking for this kinda problem and it looks like everyone has this problem but there is not recall and this is extremely dangerous, can whenever you fill up the tank and the level from the gas shuts off on it's own, meaning not overfilling. the car stalls at lot in low rpms and hesitates alot, car shuts off and steering wheel lock making this extremely dangerous, tank is 19 gallos, once you waste 1-2 gallos of gas everything goes back to normal, have change already purge valve in front of the car, also the evap leak detection pump and nothing, everyone online has this problem and no one has a fixed. no engine lights comes on, sometimes a misfire, changed map sensor, camshaft sensor, crank sensor, mass airflow sensor, spark plugs wires, injectors and plugs and still the same. when i run torque app from android store it says evap cap off on red, like that test it never pass. something with gas related i guess

Car stalls after refueling. stalls while moving thru traffic or at slow speed and stop lights.

Car stalls 5 or 6 times at a low speed or stop after fueling every time i fuel.

After filling the gas tank and driving home, the car stalled on the street in front of my home. took 3-4 time to get it started again. could have had an accident.

Immediately after a fuel fill up the engine will stall several times in forward or reverse. this will continue until the engine has operated for 4 to 5 minutes. the engine has failed on me several times at intersections and when pulling onto roadways...very dangerous place to stall. there have been many reports made to the nhtsb and dodge forums on this issue. i just had my fuel cannister replaced and the problem remains.

While merging onto the interstate my engine shut completely off; i lost power steering and all throttle control. after pulling onto the side of the road i was able to turn the ignition on and drive away like normal. i have a 5.7l hemi and the car has 37,700 miles.

Vehicle stalls out while driving or sitting at traffic control devices. sometimes after refueling. mostly at times while driving 55 or 60 mph and while slowing to turn causing the car to lose all powers. check engine light, oil and etc all come on when this happens. this vehicle only has 48,000 original miles. very dangerous while driving with my precious grandbabies in the car. have had to the car to two dodge dealerships and they can not find a problem. i have even replace the computer and it did not correct the performance of the vehicle.

When i fill the car up and it stops the fuel pump automatically, i close the gas cap and start the car. when i drive off it will stall. it will start back up right after but i have been making a turn after leaving the gas station and the car has stalled leaving me with no power steering or brakes. it only does this when i fill the car up. because of this issue i can only fill the car 3/4 of the way up.

Car shuts off after refueling.
