For the past 3 months, 5 to 10 minutes after filling up with fuel, car stalls and dies. spoke to the dealer mechanic and he said he had to replace the total gas tank in an 06 charger a few days ago for the same reason. he went on to say that this is the only way to fix the problem. cost starts at 1700.00 up to 2500.00. why is there no recall on this... chrysler dodge will be paying much more when accidents and injuries start happening due to this issue. i was in the center lane of the freeway and everything locked up. it was peak traffic hours. i threw it in nutral to restart and go, i made it to the slow lane and put my hazard lights on until i could exit off the freeway. car died 2 more times until i was off the freeway. i wil not drive on the freeway with this car until its fixed. *tr
After refueling my 2006 dodge charger 5.7l the engine stalled as i was leaving the stations parking lot and after restarting the engine ran very rough for a short while. after about 2 miles of driving everything cleared up. took it to a repair shop because i thought maybe i had got bad gasoline but everything checked out fine. i was told not to fill completely up and that this is a known problem that is very expensive to fix. *tr
Immediately after fueling, the vehicle stalled while leaving the gas station and lost all belt driven components as a result - power steering, a/c, etc. the vehicle subsequently stalled several more times while driving, and exhibited labored acceleration in between. this was the first incident and has been repeated every time it was refueled until pump shut off since, regardless of different gas stations and fuels. *tr
Immediately after fueling the vehicle, it stalled after start up while driving in traffic. the vehicle was not topped off, but had a full tank of fuel. this happened on two occasions to date, both occasions the vehicle died at least twice, once the vehicle died while in park and the other incidents were while the car was in gear and moving at a low speed through traffic. *tr
Was coming down a hill when my engine died and the dashboard chime started ringing, plus the oil pressure light came on. was very lucky being able to wrestle the car, still going downhill with no power driving or power brake assist, into a 7-11 just before a major intersection (four lanes one way, six lanes crosswise). called a tow truck. had been sitting there for a half hour and on a lark we tried to start it up again--and it did start (immediately after incident, i could not start). but i was unsure of reliability so had it towed to shop, which could find no problem. drove it away the next day and did research, and found multiple reports in an enthusiast forum (chargerforums.com) saying this issue affected them after the gas tank was filled. belief is flaw in valve leading to evap system--no one with new chargers seems to have this problem, perhaps reside buildup over time (one forum member, after replacing tank, cut section away with valve and reported accumulated reside on valve). only known solution said to be replacement of gas tank (because valve is buried in tank) or not filling up all the way. since then, i have only filled gas tank to 3/4 mark most of the time. that eliminated the problem except for two more incidents when i was careless and let it fill close to totally full. *everyone* who gets new gas tank reports this problem as solved. mileage above is approximate. *tr
The car would lose all power within a 10th of mile after filling up with gasoline. the car gives no warning signals, but stalls out. this happen also when the fuel tank was a fourth of tank of gas. the car would restart, within minutes after placing it in park. ( remind you i am sitting in middle of highway with no tail lights, or flashers) this is a major concern of mine. i was lucky that i did not get rear ended when the car stalled during "rush hour" traffic. the next day, i took the car to the dealership to have the problem checked and fixed. i was informed the fuel tank canister had a valve that was operating incorrectly causing the problem. the fuel tank and canister needed to be replaced. the total cost to me was $1548.00. the cost was high, but the chance of getting into a wreck and causing injuries was worth the price to fix to me. i feel since has been a problem with other 2006 chargers an investigation of the part needs to happen before someone does get killed. *tr
After filling up gas tank completely my car will die every time, sometimes about 5 minutes after i pull out into traffic. it has been happening for over a year now. i would like to reference pe13-016, dodge/chrysler says i will have to 1800$ to have this fixed and that there is no extended warranty on this faulty setup. *tr
After filling tank with fuel, car stalls and dies several times due to flooding. web search reveals this is a very common problem and only solution to fully resolve is to replace fuel tank with associated equipment. if this problem is as pervasive as it seems, then an investigation should be initiated and a recall begun. a car dying repeatedly in traffic is a very bad thing. *tr
After filling up the fuel tank, leaving the gas station the car stalled out several times. first out of the gas station , then 2 more times while getting on the freeway. very nerve racking. this has been a consistent situation everytime i have filled up for the last several months. i have not been able to use the vehicle to travel back and forth to work or other business needs. not real happy right now. have contact dealer and waiting response. *tr
The first time the issue happened was right after we filled up gas, we drove onto the i-5 and proceeded up the grapevine in california, very steep grade. as we started going up the car bogged and died, which slowed our speed dramatically as well as gave me very hard steering at 65 mph. we almost got rear-ended by a larger vehicle behind us, do to our rapid de-acceleration going up hill with no brake lights. the reason for no brake lights is because i was not slowing down on my own. than the car took about 15 cranks to start on the side of the road. than i proceeded to merge into traffic which was a safe merge, until the car bogged a second time in the slow lane which this time i had a semi truck behind us. another close call getting to the shoulder. we waited 5 minutes started car again and proceeded on our way with no problems. since this first incident in jan 2013, our car has done this about a dozen other times. there were times driving around corners when the car bogged and died which made it very difficult to steer without power steering. after many incidents were figured out this only happens directly after fill up. if the tank is filled more than 7/8 of the way the car will stall while driving. very unsafe for my family and this problem is a huge issue with these cars, exp. charger, magnum, 300. *js
I had just filled up my car with fuel and upon exiting the gas station my car stalled. i put the transmission into neutral and coasted to the side of the road. i waited several minutes and restarted the car and went on my way without further incident. i had been aware of a potential problem with my vehicle for this type of problem with information i gleaned from internet forums and this helped me to not panic when it eventually happened to me. this event happened in the evening with fairly light traffic and with the traffic light in my favor. had the roads been busier and the traffic flowing northbound at the time i may have been broadsided by oncoming traffic. this issue has not been acknowledged or addressed by chrysler to date as far as i know. *tr
Car stalls numerous times after fueling. dodge says my vin does not show any recalls. refer to (pe13-016) *js
Pe13-016 chrysler is not meeting its obligations. *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact mentioned that the failure occurred after the vehicle was refueled. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 81,000.
Stall/die/shut off after fill up under normal driving conditions while in drive and in motion. only happens right after fill up. once you burn some of the fuel out of the tank, it returns to normal. *tr
Not sure of exact first date or mileage this happened, but around 12/17/12 and 92,000 miles i went to gas station and filled tank, then drove approx 1.5 miles towards home, and then while going about 25 mph on slight downward slope in my neighborhood vehicle stalled out completely without any warning and oil light came on. i let car sit off for few minutes and then it restarted, then i drove less than 0.5 miles and car stalled again when backing into garage so i did not attempt to restart and pushed car into garage since never experienced this type of problem before on this vehicle, or any vehicle i have ever owned in 20 years. then same thing happened again in jan 2013 right after fillup, car stalled within 100 yards of pulling out of gas station in traffic, but was able to restart but ran roughly for first few minutes after restart. then happened again a few more times between jan - march after fillups. then on 4/17/13 happened few minutes after fillup while on highway ramp and vehicle almost got hit by cars coming behind me with wife in car. that time vehicle would not restart after two attempts, but let sit for few minutes and then applied gas pedal and started, and ran rough again for few minutes afterwards then smoothed out. very lucky that time my wife and i did not get rear ended by cars speeding up on ramp to get on highway since hardly any shoulder area to pull over. since that incident i have been filling up tank using slowest pumping selection to try and avoid stallouts after fillups. chrysler is aware of this problem based upon info i pulled off web, and only permanent recommend fix was to replace gas tank and all lines since they come as one assembly unit, but that sounds like a definite manufacturer's defect to me as opposed to a normal wear and tear issue, and should be made into a recall before someone gets seriously injured. *tr
After refueling, the vehicle stalls and runs rough. usually requires restarting a couple of times before it eventually smoothes out. has stalled several times while on freeway after refueling nearly causing an accident. have been experiencing problem every time vehicle is refueled for the past 2-3 years. problem is becoming more serious. *tr
My car has had multiple occurrences where i am sitting at a stoplight in traffic and the car will suddenly shut off for no reason. this usually occurs after i fill the gas tank completely full after a trip to the gas station. my car has also done this while the car is moving. this has happened up to 70 mph while trying to pass another vehicle. the car actually "coughed" then just sort of stalling, suddenly started performing normally. this vehicle has stalled so many times at stoplights in traffic that my wife is afraid to drive it anymore. my local chrysler dealer has installed two different transmission control modules in the car in an attempt to fix the problem, but to no avail. i have noticed that since i have stopped filling the gas tank completely full that the stalling has stopped. *tr
After filling the gas tank the engine stalls and is difficult to restart. it will do this until the tank is not completely full. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that after refueling, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was able to be restarted immediately and was taken to a mechanic where the contact was advised that the fuel tank may have been the cause of the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the failure recurred several times after the initial repair. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 65,000 and the current mileage was 65,807. the vin was not available.
It happen after i put gas in the car. i was driving and the car just die, i put it in park and started right away but it was driving like if it needed oxygen to breath. the next stop it die again i put it in park again and started right away and i continue to go home. it is very scary i drive the freeway a lot thank god it did not happen while i was on the freeway i would it cause a big accident. now every time i put gas the car does the same thing i need to find an answer to the problem. *tr
2006 dodge charger rt (5.7 hemi) stalls suddenly when driving on highway. i placed car quickly in neutral and tried restarting twice before car started again. it is very scary now to drive on the highway. this issue continues to happen frequently. i noticed that it usually happens especially after filling up gas. *tr
This problem is related to the purge solenoid. the evaporative emissions system stores fuel vapors from the tank and then burns them in the engine, to keep the vapors from going into the atmosphere. when you fill the tank with fuel the air and vapor that the fuel displaces has to go into the evap system. there is a valve on top of the tank that allows the vapor out, but is supposed to shut off when liquid fuel hits it as the tank fills. what happens is this valve fails and it allows you to push liquid fuel into the evap system when you push too much fuel into the tank. this liquid fuel goes into the vapor canister and lines. when you start the engine a couple minutes later the purge solenoid will come on to do it's job and burn these vapors, but with this failed valve it sucks up liquid fuel instead, so the engine runs rough and can die at idle. the vehicle stalls for the next 5 miles or so whenever you take your foot off the gas, i.e. taking a turn or sitting at a traffic light. the vehicle bucks violently as well. when the engine stalls it cuts all power to the vehicle causing you to lose power steering and the abs. because the vehicle is vapor locked it will not restart immediately. my fear is that i am going to pull into traffic and be involved in an accident when my vehicle stalls and will not restart or i'll be injured when it happens taking a curve or turn. chrysler customer service center says they have no service bulletins on this issue and no one else has complained about. a quick internet search (dodge charger stall after filling with gas) shows it is a wide spread issue not only with the charger but the magnum and chrysler 300 as well. only way to fix issue is to replace the entire gas tank which is a $900 part with 2-3 hours labor. *tr
My car started dying after being filled at the gas station. it was very dangerous driving and slowing down to have it die. clearly there is a problem somewhere in the fuel system. *tr
If i fill up my car with gas, it will stall and hesitate. after driving for a few miles it will stop and not happen again until i fill it up again. if i don't fill it all the way, it wont do it. please fix it!!! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that while waiting at a traffic signal immediately after refueling, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 14,000 and the current mileage was 21,000.
Nearly every time i refuel the vehicle it stalls 4-6 times in the first 5 miles. this has left me in turns without power steering, on highway on ramps without power steering or brakes, and sitting in busy intersections attempting to re-start the car. it is worse if i turn left after gassing up - car will immediately die while in the intersection. this has happened approximately 30 times in the last 10 months. *tr
Just after i filled up with gas (topped off the tank) i drove don the road and the car stalled and took 15-20 seconds to restart.this happen each time i topped off the fuel rank. if i only fill to 3/4 full no problem. *tr
After filling up with gas was turning onto a main road when car suddenly stalled. dodge dealer could not find problem. happened several more time over the next couple of month after filling gas tank. replaced fuel pumps per dealer recommendation. a couple of months later it happened again after filling tank. did a search and found same problem with gas tank on this same model. in may 2013 replaced gas tank. on several of these instances of car stalling i was leaving gas station and turning into traffic when the vehicle stalled causing near accidents. this is going to cause a fatality if it hasn't already. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that after refueling, the vehicle would begin to hesitate before stalling. the contact was able to restart the vehicle but the failure was recurring. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. no repairs were performed. the contact also stated that when the engine was first started, the odor of gasoline was present inside the vehicle. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 96,000.
I have 2006 dodge charger with a faulty gas tank. it has been investigated and established by chrysler that this is accurate. unfortunately the refueling of the vehicle is not the only problem. here is additional information. while accelerating into traffic the vehicle also shuts off. i have experience this in the past for the last three years with failed repairs. this is dangerous and happens after half throttle or better. this is apparently do to the sensor or float in the gas tank malfunctioning. according to my research on the dodge forums, chrysler was initially in denial and now is very slow to correct the issue. i am presently waiting for parts. the dealership informed me, they get a fuel tank in every 15 days or so for repairs involving this issue. the owners are not aware of the danger this can cause while merging into traffic. the vehicle's power and fuel just shuts off with no warning to other drivers. this resulted in a vehicle swaying around me into traffic avoiding a rear collision; because of course i had no brake lights that illuminated. *tr
The engine stalls after i fill the fuel tank to its full capacity. this stalling usually occurs within a block or so after leaving the gas station. i then have to sit on the side of the road, or in the middle of the road and wait a few minutes before the engine will re-start. lately, i have not filled the gas tank to its full capacity. i feel this is a real safety issue. i understand that this is a problem with the rollover valve on the top of the fuel tank and the only way to correct this issue is to have the fuel tank replaced. *tr
I am no longer able to fill my gas tank to the full level every time. very inconvient. *tr
Notice fuel smell in my garage. took to mechanic and found gas tank strap has punctured fuel tank on passenger side of vehicle. upon inspection found that gas tank strap is missing foam insulation between tank and strap. this vehicle is not driven in winter so it is very clear that this foam was not installed at factory. i have contacted chrysler to see if they will repair vehicle since it is out of warranty. looking up on internet there are pages of gas fumes from dodge chargers. this is a safety hazard since gas fumes are highly flammable. *tr
I was driving the car at 60mph on the expressway when the engine quit with no warning causing the car to lose all power in heavy traffic. my car was nearly hit several times by other cars as i tried to change lanes in order to reach the emergency lane on the right side of the expressway. i restarted the car with no problems. the car engine has quit for no reason several other times with no warning in the last year while driving at different speeds. the manufacturer needs issue a recall, or be liable for any lawsuits resulting from accidents caused by defective fuel systems in these vehicles. *tr
After refueling, car tends to stall, or not axcelarate properly. causing multiple problems without power.. *tr
The cars stalls after gas fillup. the cars stalls in traffic while moving the engine simply stops. usually restarts when tried. the car also "bucks" while running at times also after a fillup. dodge agreed to replace my gas-tank out of warranty as a courtesy to me in 2012. i had to pay $100 of the repair. i am filing this to aid you in tracing the defective gas tanks as i have become aware that this is a large-spread problem and have first hand experience with it. my problem was solved by the new gas tank and replacement of the evaporative control system vapor tank. i have no issue at this time but i am concerned that the underlying issue has not been fixed and that this will happen again at some point. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated after filling the gas tank the vehicle stalled without any warnings. the vehicle was able to be driven to the contact's residence. the vehicle was not taken to a mechanic. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 118,000.
First time it staled was when i filled tank up and got imediatly to highway car stalled as i tryed to merg to highway speed .almost got run over by a tractor trailer behind me.it took a while till i discovered that a fil up will cause charger to stall happened many more times after i found that it was gas fil up causing the stalling that is the only problem with charger.i can only get small amounts of gas at a time.help me... please. *tt
After refueling, the car stalled upon moderate acceleration. i thought it was a one time issue, but took it to a dodge dealership after the third incident. they could find nothing wrong with the car. after extensive research online, i found that the problem is apparently with a purge solenoid valve that cannot be replaced without the entire gas tank being replaced, as well as the evap canister. the car has been doing this more and more frequently, almost to the point of doing it every fill up. if it doesn't stall when the engine is restarted, it does it randomly within a few minutes of driving. either while accelerating, or cruising. this is a large safety issue, as my wife drives this car into the city of cincinnati for work, and the car has stalled after she refuels. we are not leaving the engine running during refueling, and we are not topping off the tank. i have done research online and it appears to be happening to several people. this problem has occurred sporadically on multiple occasions, and i have barely avoided crashing a few times when the car stalled while i was turning. the car is a 2006 dodge charger r/t with the 5.7l hemi engine. *tr
After fueling my 2006 dodge charger r/t, the car will begin to sputter and completely shut-off. this results in the loss of power steering and having to put the car into park in order to restart. it will occur multiple times, sometimes while idling, before it will begin to act normally.it has been happening for several months. at first, it was sporadic but now it is everytime i fill up the gas tank. it can be very dangerous as it can happen anytime and without warning. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled continuously after the vehicle was refueled. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who has not diagnosed the problem. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
5.7l hemi engine. for the past 2 yrs, engine will stall after filling-up the gas tank. this doesn't happen after every fill-up, but occurs at random fill-up intervals. the engine will stall multiple times until it's burned off approximately 1 gallon of gas, then operates normally. stalling mostly occurs when vehicle comes to a stop. however, i've had several instances when the stall occurred on the highway at 60 mph. *tr
The car stalls while driving. it completely shuts off with a loss of all power. shifting to neutral and restarting while in motion typically works to regain power. this has happened numerous times over the last several months, with no pattern as to when or why. the car has been taken to the dealer twice to no avail. *tr
After filling the fuel tank and making a left hand turn, the vehicle stumbles and shuts off. while it restarts and seems fine after re-starting, sometimes it takes as long as 5 minutes before it will restart. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the power steering assist failed followed by the vehicle stalling. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the fuel tank would need to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified and they offered to cover seventy-five percent of the repair cost. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 75,000 and the current mileage was 102,000.
Vehicle engine stalled while driving in on going traffic many times most times after refueling having a hard time to get it started again. *tr
I filled a complaint back in 2/02/12 nhtsa id # 10446316. look at that complaint. dodge has a problem with there fuel tanks that allows gas into the evap system, causing raw fuel to be sucked into the motor through the evap purge solenoid after a fill up. i did receive a call from a third party on behalf of dodge. but there solution to the problem could have ended up costing me close to a $1000.00 dollars. i was not willing to take a chance and be on the hook for that. i simply asked that if the gas tank was the problem what would dodge do about it, to which i was told we cannot say. the wanted my commitment but would offer none on there end. i even talked to the local dodge dealership and from my conversation with the service department i really felt that they had no idea how an evap system works, they only wanted to try parts on it not find the root cause, and i felt like this would have been done at my expense. therefore we learned to live with this problem. no i see that there has been a finding where dodge acknowledges that there is a problem with some tanks in chargers. my complaint was specific about what was happening (fuel getting into the purge solenoid after fill ups and motor stalling because of it). i felt that i should have been contacted about this after the findings since my complaint was dead on about this issue. not only do i feel that dodge has dropped the ball but your organization as well. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled after refueling. the contact indicated that the failure occurred when the fuel level was above 3/4 and while turning or coming to a stop. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that a faulty rollover valve/vapor valve was allowing fuel to enter the engine. the manufacturer was notified and no solution was offered. the failure mileage was 80,000.
