Vehicle seems to buckle and jerk, most notably after refueling. first noticed this while on the interstate traveling at 70 mph. vehicle eventually shuts off when you near a stop and sometimes takes multiple times to restart. the oil light comes on when it shuts off but the oil level is fine. *tr
I learned about the fuel tank warranty and will be getting that repaired, but my issue is at 75 to 100% throttle my car will stall out. but my car starts back up on its own like nothing ever happened. when it stalls it throws you forward like the car is braking and then when it fires back up you can hit the throttle and it will go as normal. *tr
I filled my gas tank getting ready to go on a trip and vehicle started stalling out without warning ,engine would just shut down. i have been told that there is a known problem with the 2006 dodge chargers with the fuel tank. *tr
I am the original owner of this vehicle, and have regularly maintained it and performed all the scheduled maintenance at the manufacturer's suggested intervals. the vehicle operated normally, with no indications of any issues. on 8/12/14, i went to start my vehicle and it made a horrendous banging noise before immediately shutting down. i had to have the car towed home (as i was thirty miles away) and discovered the engine valve in piston #2 had broken and shattered, causing an engine failure, with the only repair being a complete engine rebuild or replacement. a check on-line showed this is a common and recurring issue with this model and engine type (2006 dodge charger r/t). i reported the issue to dodge, and was told there are no known issues with the engine of valves, however the dodge technician at the dealership said it is a common problem and should have been recalled. the evidence to this is the engine parts needed to fix this (block, valves, etc.) are on a 2 to 6 month back-order. please help! i can not afford to basically pay for a new car for a known issue that should have been prevented by the manufacturer. *tr
After filling gas tank completely, car started stalling going down the road. continued to stall at stop light and in parking lot and would not stay running unless hitting the gas pedal. problem seemed to resolve itself after a few miles. same exact issue has happened multiple times over the last few months, but only when filling the gas tank completely. when only putting partial amount into tank, this issue does not seem to be an issue. have done research online and it seems to be a common problem with the 2006 charger and 2 other chrysler models. spoke with firestone in columbus ga and was advised there was a service bulletin regarding this issue and that my gas tank needed to be replaced. contacted a dodge dealership in columbus ga over 2 months ago and was advised fuel tank is on national back order. *tr
I bought my 2006 dodge charger 3.5l v6 new in may 2006. i absolutely loved this car until summer of 2009 just after my warranty expired, my gear shifter stuck in the park position and had to have it towed. i called dodge to see if there was a recall on this problem after reading about so many other people that had same issue. was told no, i paid to have it fixed somewhere around $450-500. on monday i had to have my car towed because it broke down on my way home from work. it sounded like the car was going to explode like in a cartoon. it was making knocking noises and sounded like a diesel truck. mechanic told me that my engine was shot. how could this be? my car has 67,716 miles on it!!! very low mileage for a 2006 vehicle. called dodge and asked if there was a recall on the engine problem. i read of many, many other people having this same issue. no recall, but if i can have it towed to an approved dodge dealer and get a diagnosis from their mechanic, call back. i was given a claim # from dodge hq. i have an insurance adjuster going out tomorrow morning to assess the damage and the problem. i am furious! i spent a lot of money on this car and it should last more than 67k miles! update from aug 5, 2014 update: 8/5/14 insurance told me that it is a known common issue with the dodge charger and because of this, there are not many recycled engines available or if they are found, it might have same issue as mine did. adjuster said that it was a pressure leak that only happens while driving causing the filter to expand and oil to leak. my engine is beyond repair! i called dodge hq again and was told that there are no recalls on my vehicle after checking my vin#. also told me they will not help me. they told me i can file a complaint with nhtsa. meanwhile i am taking the bus. not a happy camper! *tr
While driving, i heard a chime, and the engine oil symbol came on, the steering wheel locked and the vehicle stopped. (bearing in mind the vehicle was serviced just two weeks prior ) . i have taken it to local dodge service and they did not find the problem. this happened since five times. at the local service when it happened on the third time the infact kept it until the problem was duplicated. however, they argued since they were no longer certified dodge dealer they were not able to fix the vehicle. under there own management they took it to a certified dodge dealer. the dealer had it said he did computer updates 5 days later the problem occurred again. *tr
I have experienced a number of incidents where the vehicle while moving at a slow speed (typically in city traffic) the vehicle will jerk forward and the engine light will ding. sometimes the car will push through and keep moving other times it will stall completely and need to be restarted. this has been incredibly dangerous as it has happened getting on highways from on ramps. once i restart the car all seems to be fine but its completely unpredictable and very dangerous! *js
In may 2014 i recieved a letter from chrysler in regards to the faulty fuel tank in my 2006 dodge charger rt. they wrote to let me know that they are aware of a faulty fuel shut-off float in my gas tank that will cause the vehicle to stall. i called to schedule the repair and was told that chrysler is only sending out one fuel tank per dealership per week and that i was 7th in line to have my work performed. so that meant that i would have to drive a vehicle that was continually cutting off for 2 months even before they would fix it. i called chrysler to inquire why it would take so long to fix a problem that they know is causing numerous vehicles to cut off and they said that the parts are on backorder. i indicated to them that i had come close to having numerous accidents because my vehicle was stalling in traffic and yet they didnt seem to care one iota. after waiting 2 months for my time in line to come around i called the dealership to see when the work would be able to be done and was told that i was next in line but the part was still on backorder and could not have my vehicle fixed yet. they could not give me an estimate as to when they would be able to get the parts in. i find it very hard to fathom that a major automaker such as chrysler/dodge, knowing about a problem with their vehicles that are causing them to shut off in traffic and are not expediting the process of having those vehicles fixed. i have been very lucky thus far by not having a very serious accident due to my car stalling but i fear that someone else may not be so lucky and that someone is going to be seriously hurt. there are numerous vehicles like mine on the road with the same problem and its a shame that someone has to risk serious injury due to chrysler's inability to do whats right. *tr
I was driving on the main road going around 45 mph. then my car stalls in the middle of the road as if i wasn't in drive. i continue to push the gas and make i was in drive and nothing happened. i tried to pull of the road but my car would not move. as i put the car in park the car continue to roll. i had to sit with my foot on the break until the tow truck came to tow my car. had my car worked on paid $1500 dollars and i'm still having the same problem the car want go in gear or it just stalls. so far i have had my car towed 6 times since june. *tr
When driving @40mph, engine lost power, dash signaled 'ding', and throttle body warning light illuminated. it restarted as the car coasted. has repeated numerous times, including today, 3 times in less than 1 1/2 miles, at less than 20mph. no trouble codes scanned or displayed. symptom went away for 1 1/2 months after changing out spark plugs, as a dodge tech recommended. he also says the ignition coils deteriorate over time, and the internal shielding does not keep stray 'noise' from travelling into the engine controller, effectively resetting it, and showing no codes. having 8 factory coils to replace at $55 each is quite a gamble that may not fix the issue. aftermarket coils apparently do not fix this, either. i have tightened every electrical grounding point i can find on the car, unplugged/plugged numerous connectors to reseat them. this is a very dangerous safety issue, and it appears on '06 and some 07 chargers. if this happens and a collision occurs because of this, i will seek full legal remedy from fca(chrysler) as this is an obvious liability/safety issue. *tr
We purchased a 2006 dodge charger 3.5l from a local dealership with around 63,000 miles. they filled the tank up before we left. other than the customary lap around town with the "new" car, i didn't drive it for two days. i drove the car 70 miles to another town for an appointment with no issues. when i went to leave my appointment, i started the car and attempted to back out of my parking spot. the car died as soon as i placed it in reverse. i put the car back in park, restarted and tried to shift to reverse again. the car died again and the check engine light was on. i attempted the same process again and it died yet again. i thought of revving the engine while reversing to get the car to move, but i didn't do it because of safety issues. i was blindly backing into a street and didn't want to get involved in an accident. my brother happens to work in the same town i was in. he came to help. i stood in the street to block traffic. he revved up the engine (two footed the brake and gas) and managed to back it into the street. the check engine light was still on. i two footed the car the 70 miles back to the dealership i had purchased it from. the dealership i purchased the car from sent it to a dodge dealership. the dealership says that there is nothing wrong with my car and that they couldn't replicate the engine dying. they stated that i was driving with the parking/emergency brake on. i never use my parking brake (all my cars have been automatics). my parking brake was not on at any time. my brother stated the parking brake was not on. this is a major safety issue and i am not satisfied with how the dealership handled it. i could not drive my car out of a parking space. what if it had died in the road when i had to stop at lights or for other vehicles turning in front of me? i found similar complaints from other dodge owners online. see investigation pe 13-016. *tr
I was driving out of the gas station and the car started to stall do to a problem with the gas tank. the car would shake forward and back very hard then the engine would race almost to redline then the car would stall. it did this three times but on the third time i heard what sounded like medal hitting medal. the third time i tried to start the car and heard this loud ticking sound. i cut the car off and back on and the sound was still there. i had the car towed to the dealership and they took apart my engine to find out what the issue was. i was told that i had a rod bearing issue and my engine needed to be replaced. this is going to cost me $6300. i don't believe this is fair due to the repeated engine stalling and jumping is what caused my issue in the first place. the dealership originally told me that the stalling and jumping is the cause of my issue and because there is a warranty on the gas tank they would replace any damage that it caused. after requesting the funds from chrysler corp. the dealership stated my issue could not be caused by the jumping and stalling. i question their honesty. i called dodge and was told that they refuse to cover any damage to my vehicle due to the mileage and it cannot be proven what caused my issue even though they told me that the repeated jumping and stalling could cause this to happen. *tr
Driving my 2006 charger daytona with my toddler from lunch, going to get gas, and then go home. my charger engine died while driving. it started but sounded different. i pushed into a parking lot. i thought maybe i ran out of gas. but no gas light was on just an engine light & a lightning bolt now. i put a couple of gallons of gas just to be sure. i started the car. the engine sounded like a rattling and died out again. i left the key in the on to make sure fuel got to the injectors. started again very briefly same noise then it never started again. towed it home. lifted the plastic engine cover found a large hole and three inner engine parts (one was a spring, possible parts to a rod) that had blown out of the hole. i keep my charger up to date with care and maintenance. i had no performance issues or warning lights prior to this happening. i called the dealer and the service center told me he has never heard of such thing, he wasn't a "tech", and whoever did my last oil change "probably didn't do it right". *tr
After filling up my gas tank, i drove down the road for approximately 3 miles. when i stopped at a light, the car began running very sluggish and then stalled. check engine and oil light popped on. i immediately turned the key to off and sat at the red light for a minute. i turned the key on and the engine started back up and i was able to put into drive and proceed to my destination. it has not happened again since however i realize this is a growing and common problem with other 2006 dodge chargers. *js
I filled up with gas, pulled out of the gas station onto the expressway on ramp and the engine died. i rolled to the shoulder and after about 10 minutes it would finally start. it stalled a few more times then finally it would run long enough to get me home. *tr
2006 dodge charger stalled during rush hour stop and go traffic. vehicle totally shut down. i put vehicle in neutral and it started right up. a definite safety concern. *tr
After filling up my car with gas, i pulled out of the gas station and as i was coming to a stop at a traffic light the car started to jerk as if was going to shut off. this is the 3rd time i have had this issue. *tr
I have had an issue with my car stalling and it seems there are many others with the same issue. the fact that this is not being looked at as a safety concern is beyond me. just because you don't reach 90mph when it stalls does not mean accidents will not occur. if i am turning into a street and traffic is coming in my direction and i stall should i just "restart" my vehicle in hopes that someone doesn't t-bone me? sounds like a bad plot to the start of a movie. just do the right thing here and fix this world wide issue and let us move on with our muscular cars! *tr
Right after leaving the gas station from filling up my cars' gas tank my engine stalled when i came to a stop on a very busy intersection. i was able to start it again but it turned off on me again, repeated the process twice until the light changed and i was able to make it home. drove around my neighborhood making multiple stops to see it if happened again in which the engine only turned off once more. *tr
The engine died just after fuel fill-up when i was leaving the lot and getting onto the street. while filling the tank, the pump stopped as if the tank was full, but when i got in the car after fill-up, the gas gauge read only 3/4 full. when the engine died, there was traffic behind me and traffic ahead. i could have been in an accident or caused one. i shifted to neutral, and coasted and re-started the car. this is completely unacceptable. it is dangerous for me, for my family, for my wife when she is driving, as well as the motorists around me. *tr
After refueling, the car stalls at speed. this pretty much now happens after every fill up. the car always restarts, but usually happens 2-4 times after initially refueling. the danger is, it sometimes happens at speed, the car quickly decelerates in traffic making it dangerous. many times we have had to pull off the road in traffic to restart. *tr
I was coming home from work and i was going between 50 to 55 mph on the bay bridge and i felt the car shake and then started making a raddleing kind of noise like it was over heating the temputer gage shoot up and then a noise like the air let out of a tire and then my car started smoking and then it cut off and not start up again and when it did start it would cut rite off and this was the 2nd engine and it did the same thing before and the engine is still under warrty. i only had this 2nd engine 2 yrs and 5 mo. and now i need a new engine and ive been online and seeing other people with the same problems with their 2006 dodge charger hemi motors
It is hard starting and will stall anywhere between 0 to 45 mph. when it starts rough it will not go forward or reverse without stalling. it seems to be worse after filling the gas tank. when the car stalls it does so with no warning and can leave you with no power steering or brakes. it did it off and on at first but now does almost every time i run it. i took it to a dodge dealer and gave him a copy of the lifetime warranty gas tank problem and told him of the symptoms of the car. he ignored me and did 4 flashes on the car plus $110 of "cleanup" work on the car and told me it was fixed. on the way home it stalled in the middle of the highway while my wife was driving and she had no steering. the dealer paperwork said they pulled up 4 codes on the car's computer, which i got none of when i ran my code reader on it before taking it to them. one of the reported codes does not even show on the chart and another one was a "c" code for a chasse problem. upon getting the car home, after stalling several times on the way home, i called the bank and stopped the payment for the work they say they did. i have another appointment with the dealer i bought the car from (farther away) but how do i get them to do the repair i want, not what they feel like doing? thanks. *tr
Since 4-7-14 thru 7-16-14 the dealership has replaced two fuel tanks ( according to extended lifetime coverage letter dated may 8,2014), o2 sensor, transmission module, spark plugs, ignition coils and disconnected the remote starter. the car continues to stall and shutoff. *tr
While driving on freeway, car died. was able to start it back up again. gas tank only 1/8 full. got off freeway. car continued to just shut off while driving on the streets, leaving me stuck in the intersection several times. *tr
I had just finish filling up my car with gasoline and was driving through the sub division. my car shut off at the stop sign. this has happened on several occasion in the past year after filling up my car. on this day i step on the gas tried restarting my car and it would not start. when i took it to the repair shop i was took that my engine through a piston on the number 3 and 5 and i need a new engine. no one was able to tell me why that would happen. when i explain what was going on with the fuel system i was told that may because the car was running and it was not getting fuel and it through the pistons. *tr

While driving on the interstate after work my vehicle stalled out and i lost control. i had to strong arm the steering wheel to get the vehicle to veer onto the emergency shoulder lane. vehicles behind me slammed on their brakes and honked their horns trying to avoid hitting my vehicle. prior to the event i filled my gas tank. after giving the vehicle a few minutes i tried to turn the ignition. after several tries the vehicle started. i was unable to accelerate over 35 mph and the vehicle shook and stalled the entire ride home. that was 3 weeks ago and the issue has worsened. my vehicle is stalling in mid-sections. it's shaking and along with the fuel light the engine light continuously dings. my code reads engine misfiring and fuel valve failures. the dealership was unable to pinpoint the issue and told me to research the issue under nhtsa.org. i have almost caused several accidents and i do have a small child i must transport in this vehicle as well. it should not take a fatality for this issue to be resolved by the parties responsible. *tr

My 2006 dodge charger was purchased used in dec 2013. since then it has occasionally lost power when driving.. but after a few seconds restored to normal operating conditions. monday 3/10/14, while driving 55 mph on highway 251 in rockford it began loosing power and stalled completely.. i barely had time to get to the right hand lane curb. it was a busy traffic situation, and i had stalled just before construction zone where traffic was merging to one lane. as i sat against the curb a car was forced over striking my mirror off my car... it could have been much worse. not an exaggeration, i felt my life was greatly jeopardized. the car would not restart and needed towed away. the situation was only safe by a police car polling up behind me until the tow truck came. so far the car service has not found a cause. updated 03/14/14*lj *tr
My vehicle began shutting off while idle about about a year ago. it started back up immediately and i was able to continue driving. initially there were no check engine lights that came up. it soon happened again and this time the check engine light came on. i took it to firestone and they pulled some codes that they said the dealer had to repair. by the time i got to the dealer the lights went off and i shared the other diagnostic with them but they were unable to determine what was really wrong. it started happening again months later and i took it to yet another mechanic. this mechanic 'reset the computer" and made the check engine lights turn off. it stopped for a time but the problem came back. this time (140,000 miles) the engine shut off on the highway! i was slightly tapped on the rear by the driver behind me. another time a semi truck was behind me and i stalled. luckily we were in slow moving traffic. again at high speeds the engine would turn back on but this is very dangerous. i am afraid to drive my baby in this vehicle. there are a ton of similar complaints on dodge forums with these vehicles. dodge needs to fix this before someone gets hurt or dies!!!
Multiple times in the last month when i have refueled, the vehicle is difficult to start and then runs extremely rough and usually dies on the road once or twice. the engine seems to rumble and shakes the vehicle and then after a short period of driving it seems to go away. the engine light blinks on and off while this situation is happening. my mechanic has looked the problem over twice and cannot seem to determine what needs to be done to correct the problem. he has been in contact with dodge/chrysler and they indicate no other reported problems. the mechanic is still checking but seems to remember changing a fuel tank on a charger in the past that was having an engine problem and it corrected the problem. he is rechecking his files to find that repair job. last night my vehicle died twice in my driveway (with less than half a tank of gas) and i consider it unsafe to drive at this point. anyone want to buy a used 2006 charger (hemi)??? it will be sitting in my driveway. Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. while attempting to accelerate, the vehicle failed to move, an abnormal sound emitted from the engine, and the rpms revved without warning. the contact also mentioned that a burning odor emitted into the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage and vin were unknown.
After filling up with fuel, car died at a stop light. restarted with no issue, but then stalled again in the intersection. while in the second stall, almost rear-ended by another driver. car started again with no issue. third stall at another stop light and then restarted and drove fine until the next fuel fill up. *tr

Every time the vehicle gas tank is filled, the engine stalls shortly after driving away. it requires several cranks of the engine to get started again. after the engine is restarted, driving /idle is rough for some amount of time before returning to normal. this happens all the time. this is very dangerous as the car stalls on me in traffic and merging on to the freeway after filling up at any gas station. *tr
The car suddenly stalled and engine turned off. the steering was locked and was unable to move. i was turning into my subdivision when suddenly this happened. i was probably around 5 mph. luckily there was no car behind me. i was able to put the car in park and start it and drive home without issue. the second time it got stalled when the same day i had to take my son to one of his class. when i was stopped at the light, the car stalled. this time it took few tries to get the car started. once it started, the rpm was fluctuating as if it was starving for fuel. since other complains have references to this happening after filling up gas, i want to mentioned that i had filled the gas the day before and i must have drove 20 or so miles before this happened first time. *tr

Engine stalls after filing up with gas. it happens at low rpm typically when approaching a traffic light or stop. once driving for a while it stops happening. most times it will restart right away. on one occurrence i was stuck on a very busy road with truck traffic and it would not start for a few minutes. this happened once to me in the past but now it's happening after every fill up. *tr

Reference pe13-016 after filling up the fuel tank, very shortly driving down the road the car will stall. this has happened at least 4 times now and with other incidents of the vehicle trying to stall at high speeds on the interstate (65-70 mph), with at least 2 incidents at an intersection where i fill up at a station frequently. this is a huge safety concern, if this does happen as i am going through an intersection with a loss of brakes or steering, it could easily result in an accident and injury. *js
