Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that while traveling at 80 mph, the engine stalled while the abs and the check engine warning lights illuminated. the contact also stated that intermittently when starting the vehicle, the gear shifter would become difficult to shift out of the park position. the contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where he was informed that the brakes were defective. upon investigation, the contact linked nhtsa campaign number: 06v149000 (service brakes, hydraulic) with the failure. the contact also took the vehicle to champion chrysler jeep dodge ram (563 n grand ave, nogales, az 85621) where they diagnosed the vehicle with a faulty brake light switch; however, the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified about the failures and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was unknown.

Car stalls after fill up. pull into traffic and you lose steering breaks ect. need to put in park to restart. will continue and miss and stall for about 5 miles. once you run some fuel out of the car it runs exceptional until the next fill up.

I have 2 problems. first while driving all my warning lights will flash on then go right off. another problem i have is my car will turn over and sometimes start but die immediately. once i get it started it will go fine for a while before doing it again. by the looks of my research both problems are pretty common in 2006 chargers.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled when the fuel tank was filled up completely. the contact was able to restart the vehicle with no further issues. the contact called the manufacturer and was informed that the vehicle was not included in a recall. the manufacturer informed the contact to call nhtsa. the dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failuire mileage was 64,000.

Pcm shuts down briefly without warning at seemingly random times, although this seems to be more common when accelerating from stationary such as at a stoplight. sometimes the outrage is extremely short and there is a ding from the instrument cluster, sometimes it is longer with one or more warning lights illuminate briefly including the electronic throttle, and sometimes the cel will illuminate. outage never seems to last more than a fraction of a second. if the cel comes on the code is u0100 lost comm. w/pcm. if speed is above about 15 mph the engine doesn't actually stop, there's just a big jolt, as if they hey had been turned off and then rapidly back on. at slower speeds the engine stops and must be restarted with the key. this has resulted in near accidents when pulling into traffic and suddenly stopping. dealer had the car for a week, at first couldn't duplicate but when it did happen they couldn't diagnose. they reprogrammed the tcm and changed the transmission fluid and filter (which were due anyway) and replaced the battery for lack of any better ideas. this problem can go a week or two without happening or happen 10 times in 3 days. i added a recording voltmeter to monitor key voltages in and out of the pcm (measured and recorded approximately 20 times per second) and this showed the first sign of trouble is the auto shutdown relay control voltage out of the pcm going to zero while the battery voltage and keyswitch 'run' voltages both remained high(~14.2 volts). i replaced the pcm with a refurbished one (could not locate a new replacement) and the problem was not observed for two months, but then resumed. multiple similar reports on the internet, mostly related to filling the gas tank but my problem has no correlation to refueling or fuel level.

I took my 06 charger in for airbag recall and when i left the dealer my car shut off at every lights and shut off in the middle of going 40 50 miles an hour. it continues to do that more and more everyday. i've read on the internet about so many of the 6th generation dodge chrysler products doing this exact same thing. i can understand why a problem that causes you to stall out in the middle of a busy intersection is not addressed. first it start telling me that it was electronic throttle control problem, then it's now telling me that is a problem between the throttle control module and the ecm. this happened exactly one minute after i left the dealer getting my airbags recalled. it stalls at when stationary, when moving, in the middle of the street, and every couple minutes. i know i am not alone with this problem but i don't understand why nothing is being addressed.

Turning onto on-ramp of a highway i was moving about 20 miles an hour when the engine died and i lost power steering. additionally, i felt a very tough transmission shift 2-3 seconds before i lost power steering and when the engine died. the car took multiple attempts to turn over. a very loud whirring noise began in the engine/transmission area and is yet to stop.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact was unable to start the vehicle and noticed that the cylinder head was melted. the vehicle was towed to his residence and then towed to warsaw buick-gmc (located at 2777 n detroit st, warsaw, in 46582, (574) 306-0508). the dealer diagnosed that the cylinder head and piston needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was informed of the failure. the failure mileage was 165,081. *pm *tp

My 2006 dodge charger has developed a stalling issue every time i fill with gas. i have tried different things as far as not filling to the top or not topping it off with gas. i filled with gas along an interstate and when i was trying to get on the interstate it quit on me down the off ramp when i was to merge with traffic. was able to get car to the side of the interstate and re-start but died again. started again and then it ran with no issues. now it has issues every time it is gassed up. i filled up yesterday and same thing died out at a stop sign trying to get on the highway. i have heard this is a big issue with these cars and i'm surprised that there hasn't been anything done to dodge to fix this issue. i've heard it could cost up to $1,500 to fix. i like the car but it is a safety issue to drive it. please help! thanks

My 2006 dodge charger rt with the road and track option will intermittently loose power and often die after filling gas tank. even if you don't completely fill it still will die unexpectedly. i never top the tank off with more gas. in addition when car dies going around a curve, the power steering goes out making driving really dangerous. the engine dies at nearly any condition. when traveling at highway speed, after accelerating after stopping. it happens most during acceleration after turns.

My 2006 dodge charger daytona will stall while driving. also while sitting at a stop light or sign. it happens during random times.

After fueling car up, i traveled a short distance, stopped at the main intersection of the city i was driving in, the light changed, i accelerated to turn left and my charger died right in the middle of busy intersection. i had my daughter with me, so i told her to get out and push, scared that i was going to be t-boned. we discovered how heavy my hemi was, but thankfully 2 men jumped out of there vehicles and pushed us to safety in a nearby parking space. i called a tow truck and had to be towed home after trying to get it to start again and it wouldn't stay running. if you know what my problem is, please help me. my car has 95,000 miles on it. condition: unknown

Car was operating just fine no check engine lights or anything of that nature stopped at wal-mart and was in store for about 30 mins.. came out and went to start car and it sounded like a popcorn popper full of metal and started smoking so bad it filled entire parking lot with smoke so thick that you couldn't see 3 feet beyond your face.. so had to pull car home and when i pulled valve cover and plugs on left side i noticed meral shavings in cylinder 1 and plugs in cylinder 4 were completely smashed smashed in on themselves ( gap gone ).. apparently the valve seats dropped into cylinders and puctured pistons... i have looked online and it seems that this has been a pretty regular occurrence with other 2006 hemi chargers...

Car shuts off without warning while in motion after filling gas tank. power steering goes out as well. very dangerous as the driver has no warning...

Car will shut off going 45 mph, at a stop light (0 mph) or when crossing traffic intersections for examples (at most going 10 or 15 mph). i will attempt to restart and the car will start up, stall up and then shut off again - when this happens, i lose power steering. i have to switch gears from drive to park and then turn the car off and then on again in hopes it will start. as you're driving, you can feel when the car is about to cut off, it throttles ahead a bit and revs, then the car beeps and turns off, while the gear is in drive and turning my wheel does nothing. i notice that this issue would usually happen after a fill up my gas tank, so i started only filling up halfway ,but the issue still persists. this issue became heavily frequent yesterday where the car stalled and cut off at least 4 different times while making a 7 mile drive back home. this was very very scary in my eyes, especially with a passenger in my seat. this is a huge safety concern because the vehicle is shutting off while in motion and powering steering is lost. if this happens on the highway going 60+ miles per hour, or turning into oncoming traffic, there is a guaranteed accident, possibly resulting in serious injury or death. i believe there is an issue with the gas tank and the evap canister that causes the sensors to think that gas is overfilling the engine, which shuts off the car. this was filed under nhtsa pe13-016 (which appears to be closed or inaccessible- https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/cs/documentlist.xhtml?docid=pe13016&doctype=inv). this safety concern really needs to be looked into.

My son's car caught fire after he had parked it for the night. after 10 minutes he was called at his apartment by a friend who told him his car was on fire. there were no warning signs whatsoever. no warning lights, unusual smells, or hints of impending doom for his car.

Car cuts off randomly- when moving or when stationary. may or may not restart immediately. it has happened when stopped, turning, or in motion.

I have had this 2006 dodge charger for a while .now it's been stalling and sometimes shutting off for no reason. me and my 3 year old grandbaby was at a red light and the light turned green, i started to go car stalled and shut off. no was behind me at the time, so i was trying to get it to start, when i looked up . saw a truck flying up on us. thank god no one was beside us or he would of rear ended us. my boyfriend is a mechanic.he has worked for chrysler for over 32 years. he can't seem to find the cause of it. no codes nothing. he can't talking to half of the bus. we replaced throttle body, tcm, pcm and some other things. still nothing has helped. i have owned two other chargers. this one is a night mare. please do something. i'm getting to the point i'm scared to drive it.

Car stalls without warning at stoplights as well as on the road. if if the car is moving the engine will usually catch and restart but due to the way the transmission operates, there is a period of time before the transmission reengages so the car acts as if it is in neutral which is extremely dangerous and has caused many close calls with conflicting traffic at intersections. a quick search on google will show this is a chronic problem with these cars and there is no known root cause and dodge has not done anything to investigate the root cause. as a result it has been left to the owner to spend potentially thousands of dollars for parts swapping to troubleshoot the problem but with little success. in most cases the problem is never resolved or simply returns shortly after being "fixed" by the dealer. note: this is not related to the gas tank issue which has similar symptoms. i have replaced the gas tank in my car hoping it would resolve the problem but it did not.

I have a 2006 dodge charger that randomly dies when i'm driving on the highway in town at slow speeds turning corners or sitting still in park it's died on me several times when people have had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting the side of me and it happens no matter what gear its in or what the rpm is at i've replace the ecm the tcm alternator battery and everything i've looked up about it online nobody has a definite fix but the problem exists in a lot of 2006 dodge chargers, and it almost always gives me one of two codes one is loss of communication with the ecm and the other is loss of communication with the tcm and then there's other times that it gives no code

My car motor blew out of no where in the middle of me driving it. it was being well maintained up until this happened too. anything that could of caused this?

Valve seat dropped into piston chamber; dropped valve seat

Stalls and dies after fueling up. can die right in an intersection or the highway. you lose power steering and power braking.

Running hot. replaced can motors thermostat radiator water pump

Transmission and car computer are not working together properly, making the transmission shut off as i drive the car. can happen at a red light, in the highway, even when it's parked. brought it to several mechanics no one could fix it. called the dealership and they claim no open recall but yet the car only has 89k miles. was built wrong off the line if you ask me.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. while driving various speeds, the check engine and oil warning indicators illuminated as the steering wheel seized. the contact stated that the failures lasted for several seconds. landers chrysler dodge jeep ram (315 goodman rd e, southaven, ms 38671, (662) 349-3006) was called and the contact was informed that the failure could be due to a failure with the tcm, ecm, or pcm. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 172,000.

Some days you come out and crank vehicle and it just cuts off on you will you run down the road it makes a beep noise and cuts off on you if you stop at a light it cuts off on you this happens recently almost everyday

After dropping my daughter at school that day in my car, i went home and parked the vehicle in my driveway. when i went to pick her up that afternoon my car would not turn over. it never left my driveway before it was towed to a mechanic. dodge hemi 5.7 l are notorious for premature engine failure due to a manufacturing defect. the valve seat drops into the piston causing catastrophic and sudden engine failure. the reason for my complaint has nothing to do with the cost involved to replace my transportation. the damage has been said and done. the reason for this complaint is the thought that my car's engine happened to fail minutes before my daughter was in the car. honestly, if the engine failure would have happened while the car was in motion, whether it be it in a 20 mph school zone or on the freeway at 70 mph to her favorite store to get a treat after school; i probably would've not known what to do. this defect could have very well caused a wreck hurting me my eight-year-old daughter and possibly other people. i truly just don't want this to happen to someones little girl or anybody. can you please research and investigate this problem before someone is killed or hurt? it's just not right and dodge is holding no responsibility. thank you for your time.

Every time i get gas and start the engine, it jerks and dies after driving a few hundred feet. i start it again and it keeps doing the same thing repeatedly. i'm afraid to pull into traffic because i don't know when it's going to just stop running. i feel this is a very unsafe situation. it has been going on for about 2 years now. last night was the most recent occurrence.

2006 dodge charger daytona r/t 5.7 hemi valve seat dropped at 144k miles. always dealer serviced. always on schedule, plugs, oil air filter everything. issue leading up to it was random multiple cylinder misfire stemming from faulty water temp sensor, which was fixed. dropped valve seat when briefly turning of vehicle after dropping family home prior to going to work. motor needs to be replaced. just prior to failure spent around $4k to make sure the car was running perfect. mechanic had told me the car was in perfect running order and compression was like it was almost brand new. engine should have easily made it to 250k miles. contacted chrysler who pretty much lied and told me this was not a common occurrence. dealer was not willing to help me towards the repair. if this valve seat dropped 30 seconds earlier, it would have locked up in the middle of the freeway putting the lives of my family and myself at risk. this is a widespread and known issue and chrysler is not doing anything about it. this is a disgrace.

After i filled up on gas i drove out of the station and a block later while traveling 35 mph my car completely turned off and the oil light came on. i could not steer or brake. i got out of the road put it in park and it started right up. i decided to drive two blocks farther to the oil change place and it did it again just died while driving down a busy street but started right up. i took it to a mechanic who could not find any codes or any problems.

My dodge charger cuts off while driving or while sitting at stop lights. i am able to start up again but then it shuts off at the next stop light or while driving on the interstate. there is no trouble codes or check engine lights.

After filling up, my car engine stalls. i took it to the mechanic and was told chrysler knows about it. i looked it up on your site and indeed found pe13016 but disagree with the finding being that it is a low safety issue. this has happened multiple times where i would be in the middle of traffic and the engine stalls and shuts off and the steering locks up where i can't steer the car whatsoever. the mechanic told me that it was due to a fuel vapor lock in which the evap valve stays open and due to it, the engine runs rich because of the fuel. i was told not to overfill in which i have stopped, however, this happens just by filling up. i have had to rev the engine to burn off gas until the engine stops stalling. every time, i've stopped traffic in the middle of the road and it has happened at night as well where visibility is low and almost got hit because my car stalled. it has also happened right before turning in a busy intersection and thankful that it happened right before i made the turn. every time it has happened i've been in motion on a city street and a few times on a highway but every time i was about to turn. the first time it happened, i didn't know and got the tow truck to tow the car and had the police to come behind me because in his words, i was in an unsafe location, so that no other oncoming vehicles would hit me. the date that i placed on when it happened is the last date it has happened thus far as of this writing.

Shortly after fill up the car will die. this has happened multiple times after filling up and it has happened after multiple fill ups. the car will start moving and i will begin driving when the car dies and i lose power steering. i took it to a mechanic and they said that it is a known safety issue with 2006 dodge chargers. the fuel tank and the evap canister needs to be replaced.

Two years ago i had to replace the engine while driving the car all the lights came on and it lost power while driving at approximately 40 mph. yesterday while on the highway going 65 mph the car lost power. this is very unsafe especially on the highway.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. after filling the vehicle with fuel, it stalled in traffic. sometimes the vehicle would restart, but other times the contact would have to crank the vehicle several times to restart it while in traffic. the dealer (sterling chrysler jeep dodge ram, 5504 i-49 frontage rd, opelousas, la 70570, (337) 942-1241) and the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall. the vehicle remained parked at the contact's house with no repairs completed. the failure mileage was 170,000.

Driving in all types of conditions, engine randomly overheats. have replaced thermostat - twice, radiator, heater core, coolant flush - twice, pressure test, radiator hose, water pump. still overheating and becoming more and more frequent.

We have a 2006 dodge charger rt daytona 'top banana'. car was driving fine til one day my mom drove home from train station (less than 5 miles). she went in to change clothes then went to leave again. car wouldn't start up, loud banging noise coming from under hood as well as engine appeared to be shaking violently. had towed to shop. once there, car started to smoke and shop said there was hole in the piston and engine could not be repaired. shop estimate was 7,000 total. could not afford at the time so the car sat in our driveway for months.car just had new rebuilt engine, as well as new intake manifoldwater pump, and other new parts that were damaged due to the engine . i will include photos of the engine etc.

Started engine and violently started shaking and then shut the engine off an restarted fine. while merging onto the highway on ramp moments later the car shut off and was unable to start again. the vehicle had to get towed on the highway on ramp. engine has been deemed unfix-able by automotive shop an a new one must be used to replace it.

When i fill up the gas tank of my vehicle, starts properly and runs good for a few minutes then stalls, pull to the side of the road, start again and runs fine for a few more minutes and then it does it again, vehicle is in motion or stationary, it happen also twice when turning and power steering went out almost ran out of the road the first time and the second had to apply brakes hard in order to avoid collision with another vehicle, very un-safe and dangerous. when driven about 40-60 the problem goes away and then starts all over when gas tank is filled up again. i do not have photos, police report or any other documentation to upload and hope not to have any to get this issue resolved.

2004 to 2008 jeep dodge chrystler 5.7 hemi motors are prone to dropping valve seats which in turn shoot fragments of metal throughout destroying the motor. this is a well known defect with numerous documentaion online. the destruction of the motor can occur while driving or on first start up. the cost to replace the motor can range from 5,000 to 7,000 in repair cost to the consumer.

Takata recall my motor drop a valve inside the bottom of the motor causing it to destroy the motor there is a defect on 06 5.7 liters theres a component that doesn't push out enough oil to evenly distribute to all the valves i have taking this car to tire plus i have taking it to amacco brandon auto salvage an every mechanic has said the same thind the manufacturer knows the motor has defect instead of correcting the problem they are waiting for thisto just blow over. its unfair i had this car for 3 months before the motor died 5000 to fix this i cant afford to fix it an me an my family are stuck catching the bus . i had the car in my drive way ran in the house while the car was running an came out tge engine was making a loud grinding sound. please help us these companies stay screwing the people in the world over

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled intermittently without warning. east carolina chrysler dodge jeep ram fiat (3401 s memorial dr, greenville, nc 27834, (888) 848-5262) was notified. the vehicle was taken to multiple independent mechanics for diagnostic testing, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. the vehicle was not repaired and was not being driven. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available.

Tamara recall.. .. on august 31st i went to the bank and when i came out the bank the car turned on and start making noise i need turn off right away i could not turn it back on i have it towed to my house i check on the internet for what happened to me and it seems that there's many many people that have the same problem i went to the dealership talk to somebody where the mechanic places and they tell me that they have experienced a lot of these problems that is kind of common on this kind of cars especially for that year 2006 so it seems like dodge knows what's going on but nothing has been done yet i will appreciate it if you could get help to fix my car has less than a hundred thousand miles and it's just sitting on my driveway

Has a blown motor and after having it checked by a mechanic it has been determine and told to me that it was a bad design from dodge this particular year with the charger engines because of the plastic cave seats melting and not allowing the oil to flow to the bottom half of engine and causing severe damage like my engine. i need to know if this is a recall item even if it a remanufact item. please reply to me at [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled and all the warning indicators illuminated. the contact had to turn the vehicle off and back on in order for it to resume normal operation. the vehicle was taken to cerritos dodge chrysler jeep ram (18803 studebaker rd cerritos, ca 90703, (888) 879-5229) where it was diagnosed that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer for additional diagnostic testing, but the failure could not be duplicated. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

I was driving home from work, going about 40 mph on the freeway all of the sudden engine starts running rough. pulled over, turned off car and was never able to turn it on again. took it to the mechanic.. he said i had a broken seat valve, everything damaged...need to replace engine. after looking up online it seems it is a known defect with the hemi engine from 2005-2006.

My 2006 dodge charger r/t just shutoff while driving after filling up the gas tank. extremely dangerous! engine shuts off while the car is in motion.

Speedometer quit working, car jumps hard into reverse and drive, will not shift out of first gear, code u0100, u1120, u0121, u0103, replaced computer and had no change of condition, no transmission dipstick to check fluid, a must take to dealer item that is not sensible.

Car running fine. stopped and turned off engine. 10 minutes later , checked oil and fluids ,started engine and engine started knocking. exhaust smoke and then engine quit running. car was stationary when engine faliure happened.
