After fueling, leaving station, turn corner car stalls. starts back up drive a little bit stalls again, trying to put into gear wouldn't shift, finally got it home. had the same problem about 2yr ago, took it in he cleaned something in the engine, bill was $400 something, now happening again
2006 dodge charger rt car shuts off with no warning shuts off at a stop light or stop sign. when i'm driving under 60 mph it stalls as if it's going to stop and the electrical light pops on and goes off but it does not shut off. when i am driving under 40 it will shut off and i have to hit the brakes and put it in park or neutral and restart it. but the best part of this which it's really not a best part that it starts rite up after each encounter. there is no engine light through out this issue so i don't know what kind of code it's going to read. i took it to napleton dodge in lansing, il yesterday and told them the issue and showed them the edmunds report for the extended fuel tank warranty but off course they want to try to get some kind of money from me ($125) for a diagnostics which i'm telling them and showing them the report.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. while driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle, but it failed to accelerate. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 200,000.
After filling up gas on my dodge charger 2006 rt, the engine stalls and stop while at the traffic stop. tried to re-start the engine a few times but won't start. waited 2 minutes and tried to re-start the engine it did start and was able to cross to traffic light and avoid holding the other cars behind me. but after a few at least a hundred feet, the engine starts stall again this time have to roll my car into the side road. tried a few times to restart, engine but did not start. at that point decided to call for help and while waiting on the side road for 5 to 10 minutes, tried to re-start the engine again and this time around the engine steadied and runs normal as if nothing was wrong with it. i have research this type of engine stall and it seems this is common to my car model/year.
I got my fuel tank replaced under warranty (new fuel tank & o-ring part #s: cnstx531aa and cnstx532aa) and now stalling is worse than before. engine wants to stall anywhere from 0-30 mph now whether the tank is full, half empty or near empty. the car's stalling can be prevented by providing quick acceleration, which will temporary fix the issue, only to have it come back later. the choice between stalling at high speeds and losing power steering & other necessities, or quickly accelerating to prevent a stall, leave drivers with two unsafe, dangerous choices each. the fuel tank recall did not remedy the issue. if anything, it made it worse, more dangerous, and made a minor defect/annoyance into a serious problem that can not be "burnt off" like the excess gas in the previous fuel tank. dealerships give us the run around. saying they either don't have the piece, or they refuse to replace it because we already have the new, yet still faulty, fuel tank. it's becoming a serious issue with no real remedy in sight. the dealership blames chrysler/dodge and chrysler/dodge blames the dealership. the two point fingers and scapegoat each other, leaving the customer to either replace everything out-of-pocket or drive a seriously impaired and dangerous vehicle. i went in to the dealership with two minor dtc codes that i planned on repairing (they were nonimmediate and not serious) and left the dealership with 15 codes. chrysler even gave me a "case manager" for this, but the case manager said all they can do is rely on the dealership's diagnostics... literally just a waste of time. why even assign a case manager? i took the car in to replace the fuel tank since it was under warranty (aka free)... i'm a college student with no finances for repair. now, i'm left with a faulty, unsafe, nearly inoperable vehicle with no other means of transportation. someone needs to step in.
I filled my gas tank (but did not top it off with fuel) and left the gas station at the first intersection. the car stalled while braking, the car came back on, accelerated against brakes, died again and wouldn't turn over afterward. had to turn the car all the way off and back on to restart the car, only to have it do it three more times on the way home. it feels like a serious accident waiting to happen. i read up on the issue and found that it's very common. dodge needs to fix this problem. we paid for a vehicle to safely transport us -- this is not safe.
While driving on the highway in traffic at approximately 70 mph the car stalled with no check engine light or engine misfire/stuttering. the stall was as if the key was turned to the off position. the car coasted to the side of the road, restart was attempted and the car started perfectly, i continued to drive. the car stalled again after a few miles, restarted and it stalled again - this continued, each time with the time driven being less. all this time the check engine light did not illuminate. i finally made it to a shop where the car was diagnosed and the crankshaft position sensor and camshaft position sensor was replaced. this did not solve the stalling issue. the car will have the pcm replaced in hope that this will solve the problem. this is a very unsafe failure especially when traveling at high speeds - the car loses all power and is very difficult to move into the shoulder when it stalls (no power steering). this is a very serious safety concern that can be catastrophic.
When merging onto the freeway upon slight acceleration the engine died, in front of a semi truck! we had no power steering or brakes! this is a huge safety issue!! we were lucky to not have crashed. i then turned key to off and restarted to resolve the issue. this has happened 6 more times at lower speeds i.e. 15mph, 20, 30 mph ranges, with no check engine light!? brought it into mechanic and they couldn't find the issue, car had no codes. they suggested replacing the crank position sensor. we did that and it was fine.. for 15 miles until it died again!!! still no codes, dealer wont help, i can't drive the car as it is unsafe. i did some internet searches. found about a known issue with the fuel evap system and the fuel tank and filler neck. these faulty parts cause the car to read false rich signals and causes the engine to run leaner. so now, lack of appropriate fuel upon acceleration causes the engine to stall and lose effected drive systems. this is ludicrous from chrysler how many deaths has this caused!?!?
I have had my 2006 dodge charger rt for just over a year and have kept all the oil changes and fluid filled. i had no issue other than a bad fuel tank out of the car, until i was on the highway heading to work when i heard what sounded like a pop. then my vehicle lost all power. i barely made it to work where i had to get it towed. i later found out it had dropped a valve seat and that dodge would charge me over $8000 to repair my vehicle. i will include a link that shows this is a manufacturing issue. the block and valve seat was made from two different metals that expand at different rates and lengths. i have tried contacting dodge to no luck. this should be seriously investigated because it is costing dodge consumers thousands when it was avoidable by pinning the valve seats or using the same metals. dodge has went thru and pinned the valve seats in motors their manufacturing, so they know it's an issue but are not helping the consumers who paid for this product prior to them fixing it. [xxx] is my vin and the website that list some of the complaints is http://m.carcomplaints.com/dodge/charger/2006/engine/premature_engine_failure.shtml . i am just asking someone please look into this issue. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. while driving on the freeway at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. in addition, the contact stated that the failure occurred every time the vehicle was refueled. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the throttle body and the power control module failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 168,000.
Driving about 60 mph on highway. noticed it was driving rough. took it to my friends house where it started smoking. parked it and had it towed to shop. they say piston #4 broke, cylinder is shot, needs new engine.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. while driving approximately 30 mph, the contact noticed smoke under the hood of the vehicle. the contact pulled the vehicle over. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that a piston in the engine seized and the engine needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 124,000. the vin was not available.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. while parked, the vehicle was not able to start and a clicking sound could be heard. the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where it was diagnosed that the valve seat dropped, which destroyed the cylinder wall. the contact stated that the entire engine would have to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 135,111.
Engine just stopped working. no warning. car was just serviced a few months prior. pre mature engine failure
Drove to a dentist appointment, came out, started car, it made a loud boom then shut down. tried starting again, no bueno, wouldn't start. had it towed to a dodge dealership. they say oil is not going into the pistons. cylinder is shot, needs new engine. it's been sitting at the shop for over a month now. really...a new engine that's gonna cost me $8,000 no warning, no sensors....nothing! just had car service a few months prior
Car wouldn't start after three tries. sounded like something blew up the first time i tried starting it. had car towed to dodge. it was there a week before they looked at. they called us on a wednesday said the head gasket was blown was gonna cost $4500 to fix. then they called back on a friday said the pistons werent' getting any oil, engine, need to replace engine. now it's gonna cost $8,000. how you go from $4500 to $8000 in a matter of two days???
We had no warning (e.i. engine light not lit, not running hot, no strange sounds, etc.). the car died so when it wouldn't start up after trying for a second time, we towed it to the dealership after hours. the next morning we get a call saying that the valve seat guide failed and and the pistons weren't getting any oil in the 4th cylinder of the motor. so the motor needs to be replaced and it's gonna $8000. it's been sitting at the dealership going on three months. with all these complaints about the same thing, dodge should be doing something about this. this is unacceptable dodge! i have been researching this every since my car malfunctioned. dodge/diamler chrysler needs to be sued! i am waiting for a class action law-suit to be announced-
10 minutes after filling up the car completely died no power steering , no power brakes no lights . car restarted then died a second time. brakes and steering are a major safety hazard under these conditions.
My car is shutting off while driving causing unsafe driving conditions. i have checked numerous forums and many people are having this same issue. this could result in a fatality. i was driving and my car just shut off the power steering went out i was not able to start the care again until i got it back in park. it has happened 2 times now.
Note: i am documenting my most recent date of incident because there have been so many inconsistent, unpredictable incidences to recall the first. these issues have gone on for probably at least 3 months now. today while waiting at a stop light, my car died as light turned green and i got ready to go. i was still in idle/ no acceleration. i put the vehicle in park and attempted to start. i was able to get it started and moving before the light changed but not soon enough. i even put flashers on so drivers behind me would know i wasn't getting anywhere on first attempt at moving. (this occurred 2 days prior while waiting in line of traffic---twice in the parking lot. on sunday it died at least 5 times while waiting in long line of traffic/congested parking lot after an event.) once i arrived at my destination tonight, i decided to check for code and got none. then after idling about 5 minutes it died. i again started it and let it idle. it died again. i did this a few more times with same result in even less idle time. i did notice that the last time showed the check engine light and the oil light. i'm not sure if this is part of the fuel tank issue for which i got a recall letter last may or not. this is getting frustrating. (by the way, i have a half tank of gas. i haven't refueled in a few days.) prior to this random stalling it would 'hiccup' during acceleration. the rpm's would plummet and a chime would go off. this lasted maybe a second and then returned to normal. some hiccups have been mild while others were jerky. when i talked to dodge service dept about hiccup they didn't think this was fuel tank issue. fortunately, both problems aren't occurring at same time but both have been frustrating. the hiccups haven't occurred since the dieing started. i am frustrated and concerned about our safety.
I was driving around with some friends one night and stopped to talk to them for a minute. i drove around the block and turned the car off. when i went to start the car, it wouldn't start and when it finally did, it shook violently and shut off. it turns out that the car dropped a valve seat and ruined the motor of the car. upon further research this is a very common problem in the 5.7 hemi in the chargers. i have several friends that have had the exact same issue with their charger.
Vehicle just died from premature engine failure at 5 mph at 515am on a friday.
Engine shuts off at any speed. spent over $6,000 at dealership still has same problem. very very dangerous at freeway speeds lose of power steering and power brakes when the engineshuts down. will restart and drive after malfunctioning.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that there was a loud knocking sound coming from the engine. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic and it was determined that two of the engine cylinders needed to be replaced. the failure caused the check engine light to illuminate on the instrument. the contact also stated that the engine ran hot and it was determined that it was because of pressure building in the radiator and a leak in the transmission. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 108,000.
My car shuts off when sitting in traffic also car does not cut back on until after 3 tries its also shut off after u put gas in the car in stall at idle it also shuts down sometime while driving i have a daughter who is only 6 this is very dangerous for call to shut off in traffic i'm scared don't no what to do or why i'm have in this problem. *tr
After refueling car intermittently began stalling and ultimately died upon coming to a stop. engine did restart but continued to stall and until destination reached approximately 6 miles. no further incidents until roughly two months later when exactly the same problem occurred under same circumstances. had just refueled and engine stalled repeatedly at speeds of up to 60mph then died when stopped at stop sign. engine restarted and continued to stall until residence reached. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. while driving at any speed, the check engine warning light remained illuminated. the failure recurred daily. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, two months after the repair, the failure recurred and the engine was replaced a second occasion but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 105,152.
Car stalls and engine shuts down, loss of steering while either sitting still or driving at higher speeds. this has happened on numerous occasions after adding fuel to the car.
On 4 separate occasions now within the past few months, my car will shut off on its own after i have filled it with fuel. the first 2 times the car shut off while in the fueling station parking lot. the third time occurred while i was driving on a three lane road traveling at 50mph. the last incident occurred at a major intersection causing my vehicle to block traffic. each time was immediately after filling the car with gas. i use only premium fuel in the car and the fuel was purchased at different businesses. after allowing the car to sit for a minute or so, the car will restart and runs as normal. i have called a local dodge dealer and was told there are no recalls and that there is no way for them to diagnose what could cause this to happen. i have been told by other dodge charger and chrysler 300 owners that they too have had this issue; car shutting off after fueling. my concern is that by stalling in an intersection or at high speed, eventually a wreck will occur. i am also concerned by the dodge dealer's service department telling me there is no way to diagnose this issue. *tr
This problem started about a year age. at first it was once ever 3 months now it happening more often. on 1/14/2014 after filling the gas tank the car stalled nearly being rear ended on the expressway. this problem getting worse and worse everytime. this problem is going to take someone's life in an accident. *tr
My 2006 dodge charger has began to stall after a gas fill-up. it is very scary because it does not matter how fast you are driving. i had it stall about 5 times after filling up today. one in which i was going 40 mph. the steering wheel locks up and it is very dangerous. i am very concerned for the safety if myself and family. *tr
While driving from point a to point b approximately 17 miles, this vehicle stalled 7 times. mostly stalling while at a light it has increased to while driving as well. one time specific in the middle of an intersection causing a back up in traffic and near accident. while understanding this issue has mainly been investigated and reported after fill up, this instance is not. this is a daily issue that demands attention. mechanical techs cannot figure out what the problem is even after replacing the engine and transmission. according to my research this apparently has happen enough without resolution but how many close calls are going to turn to fatalities before something is done? it shouldn't have to come to injuries or worse for this common problem to be resolved. thank you for your time. *tr
After filling up my dodge charger rt with fuel and topping off, while driving back home the car stalled 3 times "just shut off" the car started right back up. is this the vapor purge valve on top of the tank? *tr
I was driving my car on 1/1/2015 and it just cut off and wouldn't crank back, i was glad i was turning on my street, and the back right e- brakes came apart and tore up, when i also make a right or left turn the steering section makes a funny noise, and the engine light will not cut off. i am on disability and receive very low income of $721 and i am taking care of two children out of that and i am 59 years old, so can you all please help me get my car back on the road, please. *tr
Engine stalls after refueling. usually at idle but has stalled while moving rendering power steering inoperative. common to pe 13-016 nhtsa. *tr
Car stalls after filling gas tank, at speed or idling. no codes or other indications. *tr
After refilling the gas tank, the engine stalled several times with "bucking". the tank was not overfilled. after about 5 miles and several stalls, the condition went away and did not reoccur until i gassed up at a different station two weeks later. again the tank was not overfilled. internet search indicates that this is being investigated as pe13-016. prior to this there has been no similar incidents. others have had similar issues. *tr
My daughter after fueling up her 2006 dodge charger rt and while leaving the fueling station, the car stalled in traffic. several attempts to start with no success. after receiving assistance moving the vehicle to a safe parking place, the car started, but ran extremely rough. after about five minutes the engine smooth out. this problem would happen only after filling up with fuel. tried fueling up at different fueling stations, same results. the engine seems to would shut off always as you are attempting to get into traffic. had our mechanic check the vehicle out the first time, they cleaned all to do with injectors and housing ect. still the problem exist. worry with this car and my daughter driving it with the potential to stall in traffic. since the problem started, the vehicle has stalled from fueling up approximately 15 times. *tr
The other night i was driving my car, and everything was fine. i parked to get gas, tried to start it back up and completely died out. i had to be towed back home, while working on the car to figure what was going on, i found metal all inside of my oil. what had happened is the motor dropped a valve and got crushed causing catastrophic failure, and now i must buy a whole new engine. while researching this for 30 minutes i have found many other stories and pictures of the same issue with other people. why no one has acknowledged this issue, i have no idea. but it has affected many people and left many people stranded. i am extremely upset with this seeing that i just bought this car and i already have to drop a new motor in. nhtsa needs to acknowledge this issue because it is affecting thousands of models. *tr
I was driving home one day . i was going 55 and then all of a sudden i hear a pop inside the engine while i'm driving. after that day, the engine started making a ticking/knocking noise. it started getting worse and worse. i don't drive my car anymore because when i drive it, the engine heats up really fast and the car shakes along with the ticking/knocking noise. i did some research on the ticking/knocking noise on a 2006 dodge charger 3.5l v6 engine and a lot of results came up with many people having the same problem on their 2006 dodge charger 3.5l v6 engine. i would really appreciate it if you started an investigation on this situation considering that it has happened to hundreds of people in different places. please really look into it, thank you. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that while driving at 15 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to restart the vehicle; however, the oil pressure warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to multiple independent mechanics who were unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 90,000.
When i fill up with fuel i can make it out of the parking lot and to the intersection an the car will die. and then it won't start for a while and it spits and sputters. *tr
I have owned the car for only a week. it's a beautiful car with a 5.7 hemi. the first time i fueled the vehicle it stalled as i re entered traffic without warning. it stalled several times within a 4 block area but would restart each time. with a 16 year old son now driving i am concerned that he might not be able to react approximately. i'm going to call the dealership. *tr
When driving the engine will suddenly shut down with no fore warning. the gas peddle will go to the floor, all steering functions will be removed. the vehicle locks from 70 to 0 in a matter of seconds!!! shortly after the vehicle will restart. thus far, numerous mechanics has not been able to discover the problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 15 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact mentioned that the failure occurred after the fuel tank was refueled. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the technician informed that the vehicle was functioning as designed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 88,000.
Filled vehicle with 10% ethanol 87 octane gasoline at self-service station on september 19, 2014. drove away and vehicle stalled at first intersection. i put the vehicle in neutral and started it with no further problems until i filled tank again after about 250 miles. (i was driving a 1500 mile trip from one state to another.) every time i refilled the tank, the vehicle would stall within a few hundred feet of filling station. this stalling has continued through yesterday, september 29, 2014, and i am concerned it will happen again when i refill the tank. if the vehicle stalls at the wrong time, someone could be seriously hurt or killed. *tr
I filled up with gas in california when on vacation. i pulled out of the gas station and onto the freeway. about a minute after merging and getting up to speed the entire car shut off. no power, no power steering, completely died. i had to merge through two lanes of highway traffic at highway speeds to get out of the flow of traffic. car was able to restart after putting it in park and waiting several minutes. huge safety concern having the vehicle completely shut off on me. i have had four other instances of this happen to me. the other times i was on side streets or in the parking lot waiting for the car to die. *tr
I stared my 2006 dodge charger up one day and it sounded like a lawnmower, so i sent it off to the dealer say it dropped a valve, i say how that happen they tell me its a defect with those engines he gets them in all the time. im so upset behind this matter cause they want $3500 to fix my car, i keep my car fully serviced just had a major tune up & water pump replaced. *tr
