My car from work like any normal night when all of sudden my car shut off and would not start back up. eventually i called my insurance to have it towed home since after 11pm. the next morning i have my car towed to dodge to be informed that engine had blown. my car gave me no indication or signs at all before this happen. the dealership informed me that the engine was blown due oil sludge. i very angry especially since dodge only changed my oil and was not told about this earlier. my cousin has dodge charger as well and engine blown 8 months before mine for the same reason. when i told this to the dealership they told me i shouldn't believe everything i hear. i will never buy a car from dodge again. *tr
Car stalls out and loss of power while stopping for stop light. oil light comes on after stalling out but no engine light or fault code shows up. car usually starts up right away but does take a couple of tries at times. car also jerks around like starving for fuel. had a tune up done, fuel system cleaned and was told that the shop could not duplicate the problem. this is very discerning to myself and my family due to safety. a car that stalls for no reason or warning is a huge safety issue. *tr
Car runs rough and dies. car died while crossing a steet in heavy traffic. never can tell when car will act up, and this is a police patrol car. this problem is widespread in this year model, and could lead to a crash, and even death. *tr
My car will stall intermittently for the first 2-3 days after i fill the fuel tank. usually at a stop, but it has happened at highway speeds twice. *tr
I was leaving the gas station after i filled up the car with gasoline and the engine stalled. i placed the transmission in park and turned on the car in the middle of traffic, drove to the stop light and the car stalled again. the car kept stalling every time i would stop for the next three miles. the car ran fine until i topped off the fuel tank and then the car began stalling again. the car stalls at every stop for the next two to three miles every time that i top off the fuel tank. i cannot and have not topped off the fuel since then for fear that the car will stall and cause an accident. *tr
Minutes after filling my tank with gas, i drove less than a mile and turned into a parking lot. i was still driving, around 15 mph, when i heard a ding, and immediately noticed a loss of steering control. i pressed the brake and quickly noticed a loss of braking as well. it was then i realized the car had stalled while i was still moving! thankfully i had no one around and was on a straight stretch where i could slowly come to a stop, put it in park and restart. i pulled into a parking space, and the car proceeded to stall out 2 more times just sitting there. there was no warning symptoms ahead of time - perfectly smooth idle at the correct rpm, then it just drops to 0 as if the key were turned off. i ran into the store for less than 2 minutes, came out and drove home. i haven't seen any problems since then (this happened less than 24 hours ago). there were no codes thrown. i've owned this car since '07 when it had 5k miles on it. with a little over 88k miles i've never seen anything like this happen before. needless to say if this happened in traffic it would be highly dangerous. note: this is a 2006 daytona r/t. early manufacture date of 9/22/2005. *tr
After filling my car up at a gas station i was entering the freeway and my car sputtered and stalled on me on the on ramp to the freeway. i was almost rear ended and the car locked up and it was difficult to steer. further diagnoses from the dealership showed that the evap valve was bad on the car and needed a new gas tank. apparently this problem is happening with a lot of dodge chargers, magnums and chrysler 300's. *tr
Went to start my dodge charger r/t and the engine made a unknown terrible loud noise and then would not start. i've had issues with the car stalling while driving and when coming to a complete stop the car would die. but i've never experienced this terrible loud noise of the engine. it's clear this engine shouldn't have had this malfunction at the mileage the car is currently at, i believe this to be true as i towed the car to the dodge dealership for inspection of the engine and they had stated this malfunction shouldn't have happened at this mileage if at all. dodge refuses to open the engine to determine the exact issue with the engine without my fronting 480.00. i called dodge/crystal corporate customer service who did not want to offer any assistance and they advised to file a compliant with nhtsa. i want dodge to either repair the vehicle or to buy the vehicle for the amount i currently have invested. i strongly believe dodge is to blame as i have researched this issue and have found this is not an isolated occurrence. *tr
This car stalls for the first 20-30 miles after filling the gas tank. it stalls in the middle of intersections, while idling, when cruising at highway speeds, etc... *tr
So my car began to stall after filling it up with gas. most of the time it stalled while stopped. a few times while in motion. since the car dies i have lost power steering. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. while at a stop sign, the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to restart the vehicle, but the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel lines needed to be cleaned. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 250,000.
Initially, after refueling my vehicle (2006 dodge charger r/t with 5.7l hemi) at a gas station, the engine would hesitate and stumble a mile or so later, and operate normally after a few moments. however, beginning within the last month, whenever i refuel at the gas station, the engine will hesitate and then stall.the obd does not illuminate the mil or register a dtc. the engine is then hard to restart, and once restarted and the transmission in drive, the vehicle will not begin to move immediately upon pressing on the accelerator, as if the transmission is in park or neutral. the stalling happens when pulling out of the gas station, when stopped and idling, and has happened when driving in traffic. this problem has resulted in several near collisions as the unexpected loss of power happens when pulling into traffic and while driving. this condition continues for several minutes and miles. i have gotten into the practice of refueling and driving straight home to park the car overnight, as it seems to drive better given time to sit after refueling. *tr
After filling gas tank, engine hesitates and/or stalls. i only fill up until the fuel pump automatically shuts off, i do not add any more fuel than that. this has happened almost every time i have filled up with fuel. most of the stalling/hesitation occurs when coasting or decelerating (coming to a stop). this has created multiple very dangerous situations due to the engine not running and i have a loss of the power assist to the steering. occasionally the engine has a difficult time restarting after the engine stalls. this will occur approximately 4-8 times after a fill-up of fuel. *tr
After fueling vehicle drove approximately .25 mi and vehicle stalled. attempted to restart vehicle and after a couple tries was able to restart and move to a safe location. vehicle stayed running until i went to back out and then stalled again. i let car sit for a bit and was able to drive it home safely. took to a shop the next day where they could not find any codes stating an issue. car seems to be running fine for now, but i am fearful of when this will happen again. *tr
After fill up of gas tank csr will start and drive normal for approx 1 mile then begin to stall out. this happens while gas pedal is being depressed and while braking. after driving the vehicle for approx 10 to 15 min the stalling stops. this happens after every gas fill up. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated that both radiator fans overheated and began rubbing together. the contact was told by a mechanic that they were lucky to have them replaced before they became fractured and entered the radiator. the vehicle was repaired and both fans were replaced. the failure and the current mileages were 72,300. *tr
Drove to a business and once placed in park, the gear shift became stuck. called aaa, they were going to tow it, then another driver showed up for aaa and knew just what to do. he takes apart the case that goes around the gear shift and presses on a pink colored emergency park release lever, ( why is that even an option??!!! ) it was obviously not attached to any thing as it fell down into the space around the shifter and still resides there. the discussion of towing it came up again, then we noticed a cable attached to the shifter and after playing with it have developed a system to unlatch it from park. you have to pull the cable to the left with a pen to disable the gear shift. today i took it to where i bought it and they told me there was a recall on this and to take it to the dodge dealership. the dodge dealership knew just what i was talking about, but denies a recall on this. i am scheduled to have it fixed monday the 12th. i don't feel i should have to keep paying for faulty equipment, this car has been a disaster since i bought it. the front end has been fixed about 4 times for vigorously shaking and a god awful rattling noise ( goes away for a short time then returns shortly after being fixed!!), numerous tires have been bought because that must be the problem too ( out of the mouths of the dealership), the tire pressure light stays on, the abs light system malfunctions and has left me with a no brake sensation on multiple occasions. i have always owned dodges, but next time i purchase a vehicle it wont be a dodge. *tr
I have a 2006 dodge charger. i had my oil changed and all fluids checked at a dodge dealership on a wednesday. that following sunday while traveling through town, the engine overheated. after much investigation, it was determined that the radiator fan motors have locked up. this happened quite suddenly and i am now without a vehicle. there were no warning symbols other than the overheating. i found a service bulletin on line that pertains to the replacement of the radiator fans on 2006 dodge chargers. i called chrysler and was told that my car was not manufactured in the factory that has the service bulletin pertained to. i then called my dodge dealership and my service writer stated that service bulletins do not mean the expenses are paid for and i have no recalls on my vin number. therefore, dodge can not help me and my out of pocket could range anywhere from $500 to over $1,000. the service writer further stated to have the car towed into the dealership immediately and they will diagnose the problem for an additional $100. i bought my car new and the manufacturers refuse to help. is there anything i can do? *tr
After refueling the car, the engine cut off as i was pulling out into traffic and getting up to speed. it just stalled?!?!? *tr
As pulling into business parking lot, noticed suddenly internal car temperature raised suddenly. as i pulled into parking space noticed the temp. gauge went from med. to hot within seconds simultaneously the warning light came on and beeped. in reviewing the manufacturer manual, was advised to shut of engine immediately and take in to dealer for service. i contacted my sales representative that i purchased the vehicle from for advise. we determined due to nature of problem, the vehicle should not go far. i took to local midas service department whom advised there was a general recall notice. i called local dealership that denied complaints or liability for my vin. i then call chrysler customer service that also denied knowledge of any safety notices. i requested the cost for repair; however, 1.5 later no estimate. i decided to check online myself thought it in the best interest of current/future dodge owners to initiate an investigation complaint. *tr
After filling with gas the engine stalled and died. it has continued to do this every time the tank is filled. *tt
Before arriving at work stopped at mcdonalds to get coffee. after 10min return to car and tried to start and would not start. i turned key again car started shaking and started with white smoke coming out of exhaust. car was shaking real hard i stepped on gas pedal and place it in drive i drove to the next street to work location and as i was putting car in reversed car cut off again. i started it again smoke again came out i put in reverse while giving gas and backed car into parking spot at work location. i called tow truck j & j towing they came and i started car and drove unto flatbed and had towed to myers automotive mechanics. they said the valve/cylinder #2 had broken cause spark plug to bend and melted other things and that this year of the 2006 dodge charger rt with the hemi 5.7 was know for this issue they have had tremendous amount of problems with these models/make of dodge and that even getting a used one it would do the same. they advised a new manufactured one that dodge apparently have revised editions. they need to replaced all these engine issues that they have known about but left the consumer to deal with unfortunately. *tr
In june 2013 i started experiencing problems with the check engine light and the vehicle intermittently shutting off. took vehicle to several different dodge mechanic and was advised they could not duplicate the problem and just not fill the gas tank to full when adding full. this went on several months and after spending thousands of dollars for "problems" not associated with this issue i took to a neighborhood mechanic who after having the vehicle for several months determined it needed a new throttle switch (didn't solve the problem) and finally rebuilding the computer. this helped the problem a little as the stalling out only happened infrequently. however, recently the problem is reoccurring more frequently. *tr
During start-up engine "spun a bearing" and developed a "rod knock" according to the dealership engine mechanic. *tr
Filled up gas a local citgo 7 eleven gas station. pulled away about 100- 200ft car stalled as i was making left turn into moving traffic my daughter was in back seat. no engine light indicator or anything. place car back in park and restarted. this has happened a few times. first time had to get some sensor relay replaced. not to long ago. since then about a week later after fueling over the weekend went to work stopped at a mcdonalds came out to drive a street over to work card would not start. held down gas pedal car started shaking had and white smoke came out exhaust. i placed car in drive drove to work parking lot as i was putting in reversed it stalled again. shaking real hard. got towed to myers automotive and they advised dodge chargers 2006 rt 5.7l are having these engine problems with cylinders and lifter/valves. *tr
I have a 2006 dodge charger 5.7 hemi i had just filled my car with gas completely full until the one click of the handle, replaced the fuel cap closed the fuel door and started the engine ran just fine, i make a left turn out of the gas station make it about 100 feet and it stalls i lose all power and it dies i was able to restart the engine but it continued to this for several days i was told it was the fuel pump so i replaced the pump and still had the same issues do i took it to the local dodge dealership after three days i was told it was possibly a bad coil pack but they could not tell me which one it was they replaced all plugs and one pack it now runs but not the way it should i looked up similar issues and kept coming across the same problem with other chargers of the same year that it was something to do with the gas tank. *tr
Most times, after refueling the car will stall while driving. it does not matter if the tank is empty or half full prior to refueling. the stalling will happen within the first 10 minutes after refueling. it does not happen any other time during vehilcle operation. the car has stalled while driving on highway, at intersections and during normal operation with no warning and potentially could have been very hazardous. i am aware of the situation and now wait for at least 10 minutes after refueling before leaving the gas station. *tr
Vehicle stalls after refueling and pulling out of the gas station (into traffic). then, it is hard to start and sputters and stalls for some time. it appears to be an issue with the fuel tank vent valve failing to shut off when the tank if full. this allows raw fuel to enter the evaporation system which probably ruins the evaporation canister as well. the fuel tank vent valve is integrated into the fuel tank so, the fuel tank has to be replaced in order to fix the primary issue. other components in the evaporation system may need to be replaced as they were not designed to have raw fuel in them. *tr
After filling up the gas tank the car stalled out while driving. its been happening for a long time now. this only accrues after filling up only. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge charger. the contact stated while driving 60 mph the vehicle stalled. all of the warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel and there was a beeping noise that sounded throughout the vehicle. the vehicle was pushed to the side of the road. the vehicle was turned off for an hour and when it was restarted it began to function normally. the failure recurred within ten minutes. the failure occurred on a regular basis. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. there were no diagnostic test performed nor was the vehicle repaired. the failure mileage was 87,000.
Vehicle stalled again today (october 19th, 2013) with no warning while making a left-hand turn at a major intersection. filled up earlier today with no top off. has happened multiple times prior since (may 2013). dealer can not diagnose. normally happens after fuel fill up. after complaining multiple times to the dealer, replaced all spark plugs and performed a transmission flush and re flashed the pcm at my expense, despite having warranty coverage through 2015 120k miles because they could not repeat the problem on a 5 minute test drive. the vehicle stalled again two days later. after more visits no solution has been met and this car is extremely unsafe. *tr
While waiting at stop lights, car idles fine. the moment the light turns green and i release the brake to step on the gas pedal the car stalls. this has happened up to 4 times in one day. happened only once today 3/6/2014.
While driving on the highway going 60mph in the center lane during busy traffic and it was dark, the vehicle just shut completely off. i also had a my 14 month baby in the car. there was lost of power, steering was lost. i had to shift it in neutral and glide to the shoulder lane almost being hit by a truck. i turned the key off and tried to restart the car, after a few attempts the car started, when i shifted it in drive and proceeded to try and get back on the road it shut off again. the engine & electrical light was on. i tried restarting it and it started and drove like nothing had happened. i took it to the shop and they ran diagnostics and tried to duplicate the problem, they couldn't help me and says that until it happens again they can't do anything. i called the dealership and they said the same thing, they said that they have never heard of this happening. they said they would keep my vehicle and try to figure out what is going on, if they don't find anything than they would keep it and try to duplicate the problem and i could be without my car until they figure it out. i researched it online and there are multiple cases of this happening with chrysler vehicles. there is now an investigation ongoing but until then many owners have to deal with this problem or go without their vehicle. a really bad accident to include serious injuries and or death to the driver can happen and what will happen then? before this occurs something needs to be done immediately and the company should pay for the repairs to correct his issue. a recall needs to be issued immediately! *tr

Stopped for gas on rt 9 in new jersey filled tank got back on highway was doing 50mph when car stalled almost got hit by traffic close call started rite up again kept stalling. got to side of road car started rite up but trying to merge on hi way was scary. finally got back on highway ..just thought was bad gas. next week got gas in different gas staton kept stalling again....using computer found out other people having same problem.gas cant be filled ..from that time i was buying lower amounts of gas. car was ok..discovered the car can never be filled up. changed gas cap same problem . i found out its a dodge charger problem it will cost me $2,000 to change filler tube and gas tank but no warranties dodge will not fix problem. *tr
After fueling up, i pulled out of the gas station and onto a main road. about 300yards from the gas station. i accelerated to approximately 40mph, in the middle of the intersection my car "dinged" the oil light came on and my engine shut down. i lost all ability to turn, or break. this is a very dangerous situation. i feared for my life. i originally thought it was because i let the fuel levels get too low, after, i realized if i fill up all the way, this always occurs. god forbid if i were to be entering on to a freeway at a higher rate of speed. since this has happened to me 3+ times, i am very scared and nervous to drive my car. something as to be done. please, before someone gets killed because the gas tank and evap canister are screwy! i. ant get any dealership or mechanic to fix it without replacing the whole tank,($$$$$$$). *tr
I have a 2006 dodge charger r/t with the 5.7. at least once per day (and often much more often), during acceleration, car will go into "limp" mode, where the engine or transmission will stop producing power to the wheels. engine light will "ding" and rpm will drop from acceleration rpm down to about 2000 rpm and cause the car to hesitate, creating an especially dangerous situation on highway merging. car will come back on line after about 1-2 seconds, and run normally. the more i push the acceleration, the more likely to occur. also, car will simply stall at low speeds or while in idle. i bought the car about 30 days ago, and reported to the dealership immediately, and they duplicated the issue. they thought it could be a short, but after 3 hours labor (they covered this cost), did not correct it. they do not know what it is, and are next looking into a torque converter possibility, and also looking at the throttle body. not sure at this time if they will come good for the fix in the long term. this stalling loss of power and going into "limp mode" seems to be excessively common on these cars, according to blogs and dodge sites online. while the local dealership has been extremely helpful and great work with so far, this should fall on dodge itself, not the dealer, to make good for, as it seems to be a prevalent and dangerous issue. very dangerous situation, and dodge/chrysler should make this right for everyone. *tr
The car has been operating just fine. on the date of incident, i pulled into a gas station to refuel, shut the car off, filled the car approx. to 3/4 tank. i started the car, it ran rough then died. i could not start it again. i towed it to a mechanic friend and he looked at it. after much investigation he found that the spark plugs in cyl. 6 had been hit by the piston and bent the spark plug electrodes closed. he regapped them, re-installed them, started the engine, same result. this is the 5.7l hemi v8. *tr
Vehicle stalled when driving shortly after fueling. engine started again after cranking for several seconds, but strong smell of gasoline after starting. no further problems with the vehicle until the next refuel. this has been happening repeatedly after refueling ever since the original incident on the date given. this may have been happening periodically over the past 2 years, but before this it was infrequent enough that we really didn't pay any attention to it. we never top off the tank, stopping fueling after the nozzle initially clicks off. *tr
Shortly after filling the vehicle with fuel one day, it began to stall out when stopped. while traveling at highway speeds it seems to momentarily lose electrical and mechanical power, then a warning sound will chime and everything returns to normal... temporarily. however, while on a road trip and traveling at speeds over 70mph with cruise control on, we didn't experience any of these symptoms until we had to reduce our speed when approaching towns. also, the cruise control will shut off if it is being used when "power surge" happens and has to be manually reset. *tr
As i was driving across the desert on i-10 in arizona, all of a sudden my car lost all engine power. the lights on the dash chimed, my rpms dropped to zero, then just as suddenly they all went right back to normal and the engine jerked us forward as the tranny figured out what gear it belonged in. it started like that, only happening on occasion. now, i can't make it more than 1-2 miles (literally) without stalling out or losing engine fire. if it happens when i'm at a low mph the car just stalls out and died. no power steering or brakes, but the lights and radio are working. on the hwy at higher speeds, it lurches as described above. on the on-ramp, however, it becomes a life or death situation, especially when starting on a downhill ramp with a big rig wailing up behind me. i have been missed by truly only inches on multiple occasions. i can't afford a new car, they can't find what's wrong with mine, and i can't sell a vehicle that won't make it for a test drive. can we please get a fix? answers? wasn't it my tax dollars that bought this company out of bankruptcy? *tr
Immediately after fueling, the vehicle stalled while leaving the gas station and lost all belt driven components as a result - power steering, a/c, etc. the vehicle subsequently stalled several more times while driving, and exhibited labored acceleration in between. this was the first incident and has been repeated every time it was refueled until pump shut off since, regardless of different gas stations and fuels. *tr
On 03/21/2013, at approximately 1830 hours my car would not start for no apparent reason. i had to get my vehicle towed to my house where a mechanic examined the vehicle and observed water leaking into the engine. he stated the car was overheating when the gauge never documented such a thing. he also stated that there is a damaged head gasket and may have additional damage due to the fact that the vehicle is making a "weird" noise and the only way to diagnose any further problems is through taking the engine apart. i don't know how this could happen to a 2006 vehicle. never purchasing another dodge ever again. this vehicle never gave me any problems and now all this mechanical stuff happened out of the blue. all the fluids and everything has been up to date and no there is no warranty on the vehicle. *tr
Engine dies when at an idle and low speeds. cranks right back but will die at low mph. almost always dies at red lights and stop signs. also dies when about to make turns at low mph. dealership has no idea what is wrong. has been doing this for almost a year. *tr
Vehicle stalls several times immediately after fueling. i am not topping off the tank, or even completely filling the tank. this happens every time i put gas in the car. *tr
Took car to the dealership for tune-up;and transmission service on march13, 2013; on april 17, 2013 the car totally shutdown as i turned into the gas station. i got it started, it jerked as if it was choking,i managed to get to the dealership and it shut down again, just before i made it up to the service lane at the dealership. i was told that the rear axle seals were leaking, which i had repaired, also that an updated memory chip should have been installed in march,so that was done. pickup my car on april 18, 2013 and while sitting in traffic, the car was shaking and felt as though it was about to cutoff. i put in park while at the traffic light and pressed on the gas to raise the engine;as i turned into my driveway, it stalled again. i took it back to the dealership, they initially said there was a coil that was misfiring but the diagnostic machine could not detect it. i picked my car up on april 25, 2013 only to have something electrically draining my battery down to 4 or 5 volts every other day. took it back to the dealership, technician said their diagnostic machine couldn't find any problems with the battery, alternator nor any of electrical parts. i had no problems with my car prior to having the above services done. after speaking with a mechanic, i was told that i am not the only person having these type of problems, especially after a new software chip has been installed. perhaps this and other issues need to really be addressed with chrysler. *tr
Car stalls out at low speeds or when at light. consistent with other problems raised concerning these vehicles. *tr
My dodge charger will shut off intermittently. i've spent money going to mechanics and the dealership and no one knows whets causing it. the dealership made me sound as if i was lieing or crazy. it wasn't until my boss told me today he saw it on the news today (i've been complaining about it for months now) i decided to file a complaint to let you know it is happening to my car. *tr
Filled gas tank till the pump auto shut off. pulled out onto the highway, accelerated to about 20 mph, let off to turn at next intersection and car stalled. restarted and pulled into a parking lot and the car stalled again. waited 10 minutes and restarted, ran rough until got back on interstate. has happened again on 6/6/2013. *tr
Was coming down a hill when my engine died and the dashboard chime started ringing, plus the oil pressure light came on. was very lucky being able to wrestle the car, still going downhill with no power driving or power brake assist, into a 7-11 just before a major intersection (four lanes one way, six lanes crosswise). called a tow truck. had been sitting there for a half hour and on a lark we tried to start it up again--and it did start (immediately after incident, i could not start). but i was unsure of reliability so had it towed to shop, which could find no problem. drove it away the next day and did research, and found multiple reports in an enthusiast forum (chargerforums.com) saying this issue affected them after the gas tank was filled. belief is flaw in valve leading to evap system--no one with new chargers seems to have this problem, perhaps reside buildup over time (one forum member, after replacing tank, cut section away with valve and reported accumulated reside on valve). only known solution said to be replacement of gas tank (because valve is buried in tank) or not filling up all the way. since then, i have only filled gas tank to 3/4 mark most of the time. that eliminated the problem except for two more incidents when i was careless and let it fill close to totally full. *everyone* who gets new gas tank reports this problem as solved. mileage above is approximate. *tr
