We have classified the 377 complaints from 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Speedometer fails to report the proper speed,at times it starts out at 80 mph and go up to 120 mph sitting still, at times the whole instruments panel fails ( fuel gauge temp gauge voltage meter ). *tr
My speedometer works when it wants too, sometimes it will not work for 3 to 5 days, and then it work fine again seems to do this when it gets cold outside. *tr
Speedometer gets stuck on higher speed and rpm meter gets stuck on a high level then stops working then starts working again but on wrong rpm level. have to restart vehicle 5-10 times for it to go down. gm wants me to pay for diagnosis then decide whether its covered or not. gm should pay for the whole thing since its a common problem with all the chevy trailblazer. the trailblazer isn't that old and only has 39,000 miles on it. already had to replace a master door window/ lock switch which cost me $400. very disappointed with gm with my trailblazer and gm not doing anything about the lousy product they produce. *tr
All within the last few months i have had to replace the complete drivers side low beam headlight and electrical pigtail because it caused an electrical short that burnt the wires. a few weeks later driver's side rear stop light quit working, i had to replace the bulb, next, the blower motor won't work on 5...and it won't transfer from defrost to vents...so, i am currently replacing the blower motor resistor and the red wire is fried because it appears not to have been "pushed" all the way in from the factory, (i have taken a picture of it)and now i have to "replace" the entire wiring harness...i'm really starting to hate chevy...especially when i browsed through all the complaints... is there ever any resolve? i think most of the issues i /we have are all safety issues...would you handle things differently on your end if someone you know and love was in this type situation where they were concerned for their safety as well as the public's safety!!!! *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving 45 mph, the speedometer failed and the dial moved to zero. no repairs have yet been made to the vehicle. the current and failure mileages were less than 56,000.
2004 chevy trailblazer dashboard gauges and speedometer work intermittently. electrical problem requires a new instrumentation cluster, which runs $600. while searching online, i've noticed that there are many others who experiencing the very same problems with their trailblazers. faulty gauges are a nuisance, but a speedometer malfunction is an entirely different matter. i'm am checking with chevy tomorrow concerning an existing recall, but was not offered a recall repair when the dealer originally troubleshoot the problem. if no recall exists, it should. a trend exists that needs to be examined and corrected by gm. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact smelled a strong odor of gasoline coming from the vehicle. in addition, the engine warning indicator illuminated sporadically on the instrument control panel. she took her vehicle to the dealer and they stated that fuel vapors were leaking and collecting on top of the module. the failure caused fuel to spill onto the ground. the contact would have to pay $1,300 to have the vehicle repaired because it was not registered in a salt belt state. secondly, she noticed that the gauges on the instrument panel were inoperative and displayed inaccurate information. the dealer stated that the vin was not included in the manufacturer's recall for the instrument control panel; therefore, she would have to pay $550 to repair the component. currently, no repairs have been made. the failure mileage was 66,000 and current mileage is 73,000. updated 3/11/09 *cn updated 03/13/09. *jb
Instrument cluster goes out , speedometer and all gauges just quit working and you have no way of knowing what speed you are traveling. *tr
Hi i'm writing this letter because i own a 2004 trailblazer last year the speedometer stop working and i went and replaces the speed sensors but is still not working, i have 2 kid and i will love to get this fix but is too much money that i don't have i love this trailblazer i love to get it fix i you guys will help me that would be great thank you very much. *tr
1. speedometer on 2004 chevrolet trailblazer started to give false readings. you could be in a 25 mph speed zone and the speedometer would show a100 mph. 2. intermittent. 3. replaced speedometer on january 9, 2009 (54,000 miles on car). *tr
The interior vents stopped working and would only go to 3 max on the dial. that was 1000 dollars to repair. the rpm gauge went out next, now the speedometer stopped working and the battery doesn't hold a charge. i have had this car for two years and it is beginning to cost a lot for repairs. i had to buy a battery and am repairing the gauges at $600. these are all new parts. i feel at this point someone needs to look into this complaint. most people aren't repairing the speedometer because it is so costly, but i think this is a hazard. check out this website for more complaints: http://www.carcomplaints.com/chevrolet/trailblazer/2004/electrical/gauges_fluctuate.shtml we are all having the same problems and no one is doing anything about it. *tr
The instrument panel is not working. it started with the rpm and each one is going out. odometer is not working. only 40,000 miles this is not right. i now regret buying a chevy. *tr
The speedometer quit working on my 2004 chevy trailblazer about 9 months ago. tach also has a tendency to stick. transmission started going out 2 weeks after purchase (used in july 2008 with 42,000 miles). transmission went completely out in november 2008. *tr
I own a 2004 trailblazer with 53,915 miles. in november 08, my speedometer, tachometer & oil gauges started working only about 5% of the time. i could disconnect the battery to get them to start working again but after 2 weeks of doing that both the speedometer and the tachometer quite working and point straight down to the floor board. the oil gauge works when it wants. i have done a lot of research on the internet and was shocked to see all the same complaints and gm not doing a thing to help out their customers. i hope gm will man up to their problems and place a recall on these vehicles. *tr
Instead of pointing to the speed i was going, the speedometer needle kept moving a little to each side. now it reads consistently too high, and i don't know what speed i'm going. i've read a lot of complaints about this, which say that gm won't admit it's a defect, and i can expect other gauges on the instrument panel (tachometer, fuel gauge, etc.) to break, too. *tr
Had erratic speed readings on my 2004 chevy trailblazer (e.g., reading 140 while driving to work, or stuck on 20 mpg while stopped!). an obvious safety issue. there are blogs all over the internet complaining about this issue and stating that the original instrument cluster stepper motors are defective. based on this research, i purchased replacement stepper motors on ebay, personally soldered in replacement stepper motors into the instrument cluster, and it corrected the problem. why were the stepper motors never recalled? *tr
In august 2008 my speedometer started to malfunction. it would not work for a few days and then go back to normal. by october it quit working at all. my service engine light also stays on. i have also experienced some power surges that seem to affect the lighting system. i also had to problem commented on by several people with the low beam lights going out. i checked all the fuses and they were in working order. i took the vehicle to the dealership and they said the bulbs were blown and replaced them. i questioned that statement somewhat because i had replace one of the bulbs not a month earlier. the lights have worked fine since except for power surges. *tr
The speedometer on my instrument cluster started to fail, overstating speeds by 10 to 20 mph and sticking at times. at this point (feb 2009), speedometer is almost permanently stuck at 90 miles per hour or more. *tr
Speedometer and tachometer have stopped working. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that all of the gauges in the instrument panel were either inoperable or would read inaccurately. the manufacturer was not contacted. the dealer advised the contact that he would need to have the instrument cluster replaced, but denied any assistance with repairs to the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 42,000 and the current mileage was 78,000.
My 2004 trailblazer speedometer keeps going out. i have had it reset several times and within a few days it is back to the needle pointing at 100 while in park. this problem started while i was driving the vehicle. i noticed it when i realized that i was the slowest person on the interstate. it is may 2009 and it is now a bigger problem than ever. i would have to replace the instrument cluster at 800.00 to repair this and then it may work for a little while but, all my research indicates that it won't fix the problem. *tr
I have 2004 trailblazer and cluster is bad this need to be recall . i need to report a problem a can't solve with gm complaint number from gm is 71-683-983-288 and vin number it will cost around 600 to replaced. *tr
The speedometer on my 2004 chevy trailblazer started to malfunction. the speedometer will stick. i looked up the problem and found other people with the same problem. when i called chevy they told me that my car was not covered for this "special policy". *tr
I have a 2004 trail blazer and my speedometer stopped working . it does haywire. i was told that it cost 600.00 to be fixed . i only has 52000 miles on the vehicle. chat rooms said that gm had problems with different vehicles that uses the same speedometer, and did a recall on these models . i was told that so may people had to complain before gm issue a recall. i can read my gas or my speed or my tachometer, or my temp. please help me. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving approximately 55 mph, the door ajar chime began to sound. immediately following, all of the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel and the gauges became inoperable. the vehicle was driven to the dealer, but they could not duplicate the failure. the failure has been persistent for the past six months. the vehicle has not been repaired. the manufacturer stated that they were not liable for the repair costs. the current mileage was 81,393 and failure mileage was 52,000. updated 3/16/09 */cn the instrument panel and lights failed. updated 03/19/09. *jb
It started out with the tac not always working. now the speedometer does not work. when i am on the interstate it usually reads less than actual and when i am in town driving it often indicates a higher speed. i believe there are now problems with the gas gauge. *tr
My speedometer stopped working around 50 thousand miles, my tachometer died just after, chevy dealerships recalled the trucks, but not the trail blazers, for a 2004 xl model this is not right and to replace the moguler is about 400. plus installation, my chevy.com has many people complaining of this same problem, this is a major safety issue! *tr
I have a 2004 chevy trailblazer that has gauge problems, most notably, the speedometer. i have a 2004 chevy 2500 truck with the same problem. the truck is covered on a recall but the trailblazer is not. i feel that the trailblazer should be covered. *tr
I was driving to work one morning and notice that my speedometer in my 2004 chevy trailblazer appeared to be malfunctioning. i got to a stop sign and stopped. my speedometer only went down to 30 never down to zero at a complete stop. as i started through a intersection my speedometer went from 30 to a 120 on a rural country road. at the next stop sign the speedometer stayed at 120. as i proceeded, the speedometer went completely around and stopped where the trip miles are located. i never knew through the rest of my trip to work exactly how fast i was really going. *tr
The speedometer does not work accurately. it is sometimes about 30 miles off but it has wound all the way around. i can only tell my speed by the flow of traffic. the battery gage also does not work, it always shows no charge. *tr
Speedometer not functioning properly, it showed i was doing 35 mph sitting at a stop light. i had to turn the vehicle off and on to get the speedometer to drop back down, which it did in 5mph increments. i also have problems with the gas gauge showing empty when it is full. *tr
Speedometer on 2004 chevrolet trailblazer is not working. this is a common problem among trailblazer owners, and gm refuses to issue a recall for it. the repair must be done by a dealer and is upwards of $600. this causes a very unsafe driving situation! *tr
Dash board gauges are frequently inaccurate. so far the rpm gauge has been sticking at 2200 and the speedometer is typically showing a speed 10-20 mph slower than actual when compared to gps speed. when this happens the speed gauge goes below 0 mph at a stop. other times the speedometer will stick at a random speed whether moving or not. this is very dangerous as it causes the driver to unknowingly speed. if it were not for the gps unit showing the real speed i may have gotten a ticket. *tr
Last week my wife indicated that when she was driving, the speedometer in our 2004 trailblazer was showing she was going 100 mph when in fact she was not. i took the vehicle into the dealership and they said that gm is aware of the problem and fixing it on some models but will not cover the $500 - $700 cost on my model. i contacted gm yesterday and am awaiting a response. it has to do with the instrument cluster and the problem is still continuing. i call on the nhtsa to exert pressure on gm before someone is killed as the result of this faulty part that gm is aware of. *tr
I have a 2004 chevy trailblazer and the gauges don't work correctly they go crazy says im doing 80 when i am at a complete stop. *tr
All lights, and bells went off on instrument panel. started with the check 4-wheel drive, then all other lights starting flashing on and off. the gauges kept going down to nothing. have had it in to the shop 5 times so far. isn't this under the lemon law? and it seems as though i have to look forward to my speedometer going out next. it only has 38,000 on it. i cant believe gm will not take responsibility for their mistake. *tr
I purchased a used 2004 chevy trailblazer in february 08. it only had 23,000 miles on it. with in the first 2 weeks i had it my gauges started going crazy. they were jumping around all over the place. i took it back to the dealer to have it fixed and they tried to charge me. fortunately i must have complained enough and to the right person because it was replaced at no charge to my self. i now am having major problems with it stalling and trying to stall. after searching the internet i see that i am not alone there are hundreds of complaints about this problem. everyday upon start up it idles very rough and it tries to stall for a good 10 minutes. if i don't let it sit and idle before i drive it tends to stall. my check engine light will flicker at least once a day and every few days my reduced engine power light will flicker. i do not feel safe anymore. what if i am traveling and my car stalls and i lose control and from reading the other complaints i am at risk for my air bags not deploying. if it is a problem with the pcm, i don't have the money to fix it!!!!! why should i have too? i see that i am not alone with this problem. why is their nothing being done about it? why should us as consumer already paying enough for these vehicles be responsible for their mistakes? *tr
Speedometer and rpm gauge do not work. they are completely inaccurate. for example, it show 120 mph when i'm going 50mph. at first it only messed up sometimes. now it is never accurate. i have not fixed it. from what i have researched, many other people are having the same problem, but gm has not issued a recall for that on the trailblazer (to my knowledge). *tr
Went on vacation and on the way back my trailblazer speedometer stopped working and the gas gauge get home do some searching on the trailvoy web site come to find out this is a common problem people are having nothing like a 4 hour trip home taking 7 hours cause i didn't know how fast i was going or how much gas i have call the dealer they tell me it will cost 500+ tech time to replace i was like what this is known problem use should recall this and the services writer agreed about that is a major safety issue. *tr
Was driving and happen to look down at how fast i was going and it read 80 mph a few days later it was working again and the following week both the rpm and the speedometer was going crazy. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. all of the gauges on the instrument control panel failed. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. the failures were contributed to the instrument panel cluster. the vehicle has not been repaired at this time. the failure mileage was 60,000. the current mileage was 100,000. the vin was unavailable.
2004 chevy trailblazer instrumentation panel cluster out speedometer gas oil pressure battery and rpm. 2 speeding tickets. speedo was off by 40 at the time, now does not work at all. no gas on freeway. and battery out caused a crash. chevy dealership refuses to help although there is a recall for other chevy products with similar problems. chevy service department offers nothing and refuses to help or acknowledge anything wrong. this is a safety problem i am not the only one having this problem. please help force gm to recall the instrument cluster panel. *tr
I have a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer and the dash cluster is constantly showing incorrect. this has been going on for over a year now and started when the vehicle had around 80,000. miles on it. the speedometer will show 55 at a stand still, and the tachometer does whatever it wants, neither do as they should. the problem is almost a constant, it will work correctly for a few miles, then goes silly again. *tr
Speedometer quit working. some lights in radio has gone out. *tr
Speedometer started to flutter about 2 weeks ago. speedometer completely broken now. unable to tell how fast car is going nothing has been done yet. contacted the manufacturer because several other suvs have had this same problem. they only fix certain suvs. they will not fix trailblazers or recall the instrument panel cluster which is the problem. they are only recalling some of the other suvs including yukons and avalanches. *tr
Instrument panel in 2004 chevrolet trailblazer malfunction. no gauges work. no fuel gauge , ran out of gas on highway. *tr
I purchased a 2004 chevy trailblazer lt v6, and my gauges fluctuate so much that i do not know how fast i'm going, if i really need gas, if my engine is running hot or not...i'm afraid to drive the vehicle. i started to rent cars when i needed to travel out of town, because i was concern about making it to my destination as well as coming back home safely. i have been so upset and trying to figure out what to do. i start looking for a company/group to hear my cry...as i surfed the internet, i found several interesting stories similar to my complaint and nothing has been done to correct the problem. i will not be purchasing another gm product anymore, because as a consumer, i deserve to have a problem fixed/solved if i purchase a product or service from an organization. i hope and pray that no one gets hurt or killed as a result of this problem with the chevy trailblazer vehicles. i would love to get my vehicle fix without having to pay $500-800, because frankly i do not have that kind of money to spend. thanks for all your help!! *tr
Defective instrument panel, all gauges malfunction speedometer, tachometer, fuel, water temperature, oil pressure and volts. *tr
2004 chevy trailblazer speedometer malfunctioning. *tr
2004 chevrolet trailblazer, speedometer will show a faster speed than you moving or will go to 0 while on the freeway. the tach has the same problem. this is a serious safety issue and it should be recalled now. i heard that they had the same issue on pick-ups and they were recalled. *tr
