Chevy 2004 trailblazer speedometer cluster fails, resulting in incorrect readings on the speedometer and oil pressure gauges. *tr

At approximately 55,000 miles i noticed my speedometer clicking at 5mph intervals. the problem persisted when i was pulled over going 10mph over the speed limit when it appeared i was going the posted speed. the problem got worse when my speedometer started sticking, and finally rotating all the way passed top speed back to zero. this malfunction spread to my tachometer where it shows i am traveling at more than more than 11,000 rpms at cruising speeds on the highway. then my gas gauge began to malfunction. the reading put me at nearly 200% capacity, making it impossible to know how much fuel i had. so i began using my odometer to gauge my fuel until i noticed my odometer reading 2-4 tenths of a mile every 1/10. i have already received 2 speeding tickets due to this problem. it is only a matter of time before i am stranded out of gas. i see there are plenty of complaints from consumers with the same problem. i have no idea of any related deaths or injuries due to this problem, but this is obviously a gm defect not related to regular scheduled maintenance that should be taken care of by the manufacturer. not only can this issue only be repaired by a dealership at outrageous fees (estimated $550), but their defective part is now giving a faulty odometer reading which against missouri state law. *tr

Just driving down the road and had a speedometer failure. we were going the speed limit and the speedometer went to 120 mph then dropped back down, pointing straight down. lucky we were on a straight road and not a curvy one. the speedometer will have to be replaced. *tr

Trailblazer refused to charge the battery on the travel trailer. the dash lights occasionally flickered, then came back on strong. gm dealer could not find the problem. a local mechanic simply took the cover off the electrical distribution box at the front right of the engine, then pushed all the wires deeper into their contact sockets. that resolved the problems, at least until now. now the service engine light is on again, and it says it is for the pressure system. *tr

Speedometer on my 2004 chevy trailblazer does not work properly. it reads at speeds higher than you are traveling, often going past the 120 mph limit on the speedometer face. it is a constantly occurring problem, and has not stopped since it began. it is very dangerous because one never knows what speed they are traveling, which could lead to tickets or accidents. *tr

Instrument panel lights go out without notice. at times all lights and gauges are on. other times no lights or gauges work at all. i know that the instrument cluster was recalled on various 2004 chevy truck models. please check into this 2004 trailblazer problem. *tr

Tach is not working at all and speedometer is all over the face. do not trust the information that is shown. *tr

Odometer stopped working. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving at an unknown speed, the contact looked at the speedometer and the dial was on zero. the tachometer was over 7,000 and the oil gauge was over eighty. the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic and he stated that the instrument panel was not working. the speedometer was thirty miles off, the rpm was stuck at 4,000, and the fuel tank varied from full to half. the contact spoke with chevrolet and they stated that nothing could be done because the vehicle was not under recall. the current and failure mileages were 53,253.

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the speedometer, water temperature, and fuel gauges have all malfunctioned. the mechanic could not repair the vehicle due to the lack of proper machinery. the contact feels that this is a safety issue because the gauges do not register. as a result, he does not know how much fuel is in the vehicle, the engine temperature, or how fast he is driving. the current mileage was 96,000 and failure mileage was 70,000.

I have an 04 trailblazer with only 43000 miles that has developed an obvious recurring problem with the gauge cluster failing and reading inaccurately. i realize that investigations have showed no deaths or injuries due to this failure however does it not produce and increased safety risk and should be recalled? what is being done to correct this besides owners having to shell out over $500 for the repair? *tr

2004 trailblazer with speedometer, tachometer, and oil pressure gauge intermittent failure. *tr

I have a 2004 chevorlet trailblazer. the speedometer quit working driving down the interstate. i have no way to gauge my speed while driving. this is a common problem on gm products. the vehicle is 3 years old and has 66k and speedometer should not fail. this is clearly defective equipment and a safety issue and should be recalled immediately. *tr

I purchased a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer in 2007. after a few months the speedometer started to stick. soon after the rest of the gauges have gone completely inoperable. i have no idea how fast i am going or how much gas i have left or how hard the engine is working. no none of my rear lights function. i have gotten pulled over 4 times and i fear its a matter of time before a the rest of the electrical system completely shuts down and an accident occurs. i have seen a multitude of complaints but no recall. i purchased the vehicle with 41245 miles on the odometer and now reads 76411. impossible since i was deployed to iraq for 8 months and have owned the vehicle for less than 2 years without major commutes. *tr

The speedometer is going bad. it registers speeds in excess of 120mph when the vehicle is only going 60mph. there is a limited recall but only if your vehicle falls under 7 years 70,000 miles. my 2004 tahoe has 84,000 miles and is not covered under this "extended warranty". *tr

Speedodometer stop working. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while the contact was driving approximately 65 mph, suddenly the speedometer displayed an inaccurate reading. the reading would fluctuate intermittently at any given speed. the contact stated the failure could be corrected by turning the engine off and restarting; and disabling the battery cable. the failure progressed. the vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired at the time of the complaint. the failure mileage was 60,000.

The speedometer on my 2004 chevy trailblazer is undependable especially in cooler weather. it might say i'm going 120 mph in town or 35 mph on the interstate. this happened last spring and occasionally this summer. now it is real frequent. when i search (google) the problem it appears to be quite often with a lot of people. *tr

Speedometer has failed, i understand this is a often failing item on the trailblazer. *tr

The instrument cluster failed in my 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. not only did the tach and speedometer not work, they both registered the wrong information. at times, the speedometer would be reading 25 mph when the vehicle was actually going around 55-60 mph. if you can remember that they are wrong, it does not cause too much trouble, but can you imagine if someone who doesn't drive the vehicle too often, say a spouse, and they head into a sharp curve with a warning sign posted at 25mph, and they look at the speedometer for verification, and forget that it is wrong. this is especially dangerous at night, when it is harder to judge your speed. general motors refuses to acknowledge the engineering flaw on their vehicles. there are literally hundreds of people who have experienced this problem. as a retired law enforcement officer in one of the the largest counties in north carolina, i feel qualified to make the statement that this is an extremely dangerous defect and should prompt action by the nhtsa to force gm to repair these defective products at no charge. instead gm is making a lot of money off their customers for the repairs. from what i can tell, about $500 per vehicle. the speedometers go out around 40-50 k miles. *tr

Headlights dim and flash at random times while driving under regular conditions. battery gauge on dashboard shows varying voltages. gm/chevy dealerships suggest replacing alternator, but that does not fix the problem.

Gauge cluster is non-functional. (tachometer & speedometer). *tr

On our 2004 trailblazer, at 60,000 miles, the speedometer started to malfunction, showing you going faster than you are. it does not always reset to zero. i have read numerous reports about speedometer problems for 2003-2007 gm trucks and suvs. there should definitely be a recall on this as this is a serious safety problem. i also have seen that in ca there are lawsuits and a class action suit pending. our local tv station wants to do segment on this problem. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the speedometer would become stuck at 50 mph while the vehicle was completely stopped. the accurate speed could not be determined due to the failure. the dealer stated that the repair would cost over $500. no repairs have been made to date. the failure mileage was 60,000 and current mileage was 80,000. updated 03-06-09 *bf updated 03/09/09. *jb

I began having problems with speedometer and tachometer several months ago. the tac and speedometer go crazy and then go dead while driving down the road. i took it in and was told that it was a faulty gauge cluster that needed to be replaced and that it was a problem already recalled in other gm vehicles. the service tech was able to unhook the battery cable and reset the gauges but they still aren't fixed. i have been reading multitudes of complaints of the same thing. my trailblazer started doing this around 51,000 miles! *tr

Speedometer on 2004 chevy trailblazer started going higher and higher until it pegged itself. does not work and makes it difficult to know what speed you are going. *jb

Speedometer is sticking, moving up and down or not working at all. *jb

2004 chevrolet trailblazer speedometer either is grossly off or fails altogether. no particular event (moisture, temperature, etc) causes this occurrence. it comes and goes. *tr

The gas hand and the tachometer are not accurately calculating. the gas hand is halfway between the e and the f (at the 6 on a clock) when the tank is full and various times of the day, it moves all over the dial. *tr

Well have a rear tail light bulb stop working and broke the outer shell. and my sun roof stopped working and isn't completely sealed when it rains water leaks from the top!!

I have a 2004 chevy trailblazer. the speedometer went out last august. it started with staying on 20 mph while i was stopped and engine was off. now it has since stopped completely. it is now stuck clockwise at about 150 mph with the gauge pointing to neutral. *tr

Intermittent problem where the engine stalls or will not start. when failure occurs, instrument panel begins to flicker lights and gauges bounce around. *jb

2004 chevy trailblazer headlights and dash lights went out. customer states that they came back on and then went out for 7 days. mechanic stated they would have to do the eliminating method to find out what is wrong. *kb *tr

Tachometer and speedometer not working correctly. tach works for a short time then drops to zero. speedometer shows 30mph =/- while stopped. while moving it shows 30mph+/- over actual speed according to my computer scanner. contacted gm and they said there was not record of this type of complaint and it is not covered under warranty. *tr

I was driving down the road when my speedometer continued to rise even when i stopped. i have a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. there are hundreds of people in various forums with the same problem and chevrolet has yet to recall or fix the problem. they know that the problem is with the instrument cluster failing but still will not pay to have it fixed in the trailblazer. the other trucks and suv's have been found with the same problem and chevrolet is paying for them but not the trailblazer. i will need to pay $450 for a new instrument panel to fix the problem. i currently do not have a working speedometer. *tr

The instrument cluster went out on my 04 chevy trailblazer which i purchased new at around 40k. chevy will do nothing to help and in the meantime i have no speedometer, tachometer, or gas gauge. *tr

Incident, 2004 trailblazer gauges are not working. started with tach, then speed, now oil, battery, temp gauges not working (all over the place with readings). gas gauge occasionally not working. understand 2002-2003 are under recall. 2004 needs to be added. *tr

Speedometer is malfunctioning (stuck). *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the speedometer failed intermittently in all driving conditions. the speedometer would become stuck on 100 or 0 mph while driving at any speed or in park. no repairs were made. the failure mileage was 50,000 and current mileage is 62,000. updated 02/14/08. *lj

2004 chevrolet trailblazer speedometer is malfunctioning. gives a 100 mph reading when going 60. sometimes doesn't work at all. i know there to be thousands of similar complaints about gm speedometers. gm should recall this and not be afraid to stand behind its product. *tr

Daily failure of seedometer on my 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. this was in addition to failure of the fuel gauge. the speedometer problem was inconsistent and made me question the actual speed at every moment and made me measure based on other traffic. it is a very distracting way to drive with all gauges moving at times and then returning to a fixed setting. i had the clusterboard replaced by the dealer who claimed this was not a common problem. instrument panels on 3 year old cars do not fail unless there is a manufacturing problem. please prevent accidents in the future this is not a safe way to operate a vehicle. *tr

The vehicles clusters will malfunction several times a week. for example the rpm gauge will stop functioning as will the oil pressure gauge and the fuel gauge will also malfunction. service engine light pops up once a month taken vehicle to shop but vehicle has nothing wrong with it. i believe it has to do with vehicles cluster that is constantly not working , it goes crazy all of a sudden. i have to replace the vehicles cluster for this problem to be corrected. *tr

Most dashboard gauges failed on the 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. total loss of fuel gauge, amp gauge, temperature gauge and oil pressure gauge. in addition to these failures odometer did not work properly. also, other driver information computer items did not function. abs, parking brake and battery lights illuminated. after a while of driving all dashboard functions returned to normal. this has happened several times in the past few days.

My speedometer stop working. one day while driving, i checked my speed only to realize the speedometer was not working. a few days later it started working again. now the none of the gauges (speedometer, odometer , ect.) are working. *tr

Insturment panel not working properly. the speedomoter started out showing random speeds and nowwa s permenantly stuck at 89 mph no matter if the cawass running or not. the rpm gauge also doid not move. this should be a recall, there appearse dto be a large problem with this issue. *ak

I purchased a 2004 chevy trailblazer in august of 2004. over two years ago my speedometer started to fluctuate showing i was going 10 miles an hour while i was in the fast lane on the freeway going at least 65. after months of fluctuating it stopped working. i now have 84,000 miles on my car. i am guessing the speedometer it went out around 65,000. i do not feel that a car that is only 5 years old should have a speedometer that won't work anymore. i found that there are many people out there that have the same problem with other models besides the trailblazer. i called my local gm dealer and they advised that there is no recall on this issue. i cannot afford to have this fixed. this is a safety issue that gm should be responsible for fixing. *tr

Gauges stopped working on my 2004 chevy trailblazer first the rpm gauge then the oil gauge stopped working the temperature gauge followed and now the speedometer stopped working im waiting for my fuel gauge to go next. there are numerous complaints on the internet about this problem and no recalls but i believe this is a huge safety problem, expensive to replace and also many reports of the problem re occurring. *tr

My speedometer sometimes reads about 20 mph off then won't reset when i turn the vehicle off. it just stays at 20 mph...then sometimes it does reset and works fine. i took the vehicle to a chevy dealership and they said that since the problem wasn't happening at the time i took it in they couldn't do anything except re-program the speedo. that didn't help, it happened again after that. *jb

Intermittent headlight and voltage problems, the vehicle is a 2004 trailblazer, the problem began in the fall of 2004...headlights and voltage gauge would dim and drop, would continue to do this intermittently...dealership replaced the alternator twice..also the dash has been replaced once due to the voltage spikes caused by this...the last time i took it in the service manager told me that gm had issued a bulletin on this saying it was " the nature of the beast" that it was caused by a secondary smog pump that was supposed to come on only when the vehicle was 1st started...but could also keep kicking in and out causing a severe voltage draw...my truck now has 50,000 miles on it, am afraid these voltage spikes will take out another dash, i feel gm has a serious defect with this and feel this a serious safety issue as the headlights all but go out at low speeds, the dealership here has done all that gm will allow them to do according to them. *jb
