Why has chevy not included the 2004 trailblazer on their recall list when thousands of people around the country are posting problems with their instrument clusters? my entire panel goes in and out but mostly out. i never know if i need gas or how fast i am going. some of the time every light that is built in the dash is on at the same time. this is a very serious problem that is occurring in many of chevy's other vehicles yet they will not add the trailblazer to the recall list. please help the public in this very important safety issue. thank you. *tr

Speedometer stopped working on my 2004 chevy trail blazer dealer said it was not covered under warranty the car had 48000 miles on it when it stopped working. *tr

2004 chevrolet trailblazer all the dashboard gauges and digital displays have stopped working. to name a few the speedometer, fuel gauge and shifting gear. *tr

In september 2009, my 2004 trailblazer started going haywire! it lost all power (while going down the interstate), the power/cigarette outlets stopped working, the doors started locking themselves (sometimes with the keys in the ignition) , the radio would go loud or stop working, my speedometer went nuts (like saying that i was doing 65mph, when i was at a complete stop or 120mph down the hwy), the service engine soon light would go on and off,and my heater will not blow out the vents in the dash. we have taken it to a mechanic. he tried everything from replacing the battery, fuel filter, and spark plugs. he even hooked it up to his scanner (which showed that there was nothing wrong with the car) all this and $700.00 later i still have the same problems. now i'm told that the electrical panel will need to be replaced at a cost around $500-$900!! if you look at carcomplaints.com you see that there are many more people like me with the same car and the same problems. this is a huge safety issue.how long will it be before someone pushes chevy into doing a recall? does someone have to be killed or kill someone else for this to happen? i was so glad to google car complaints and find that it wasn't just me that was having so many problems with this trailblazer. *tr

Speedometer will intermittently show speed much faster than actual speed. for example, showing 120+ mph when only going 40mph. *tr

2004 chevrolet trailblazer lt.. my gauges for oil, speedometer, water are not working at times. the speedometer will say i am doing 90 when in fact i am only going 35 mph if that! i don't use the highway much, more city driving and i see that my trailblazer is not the only one will this problem. i really feel that a recall needs to be done by gm on this problem. other trailblazer owners have been reporting this problem since 2006. i have been told by my gm dealership that it will be about $600 to correct this problem. can someone please make gm listen to us owners and issue a recall. thank you! *tr

Instrument cluster fails to operate properly. the speedometer stopped working first, then battery, gas, and temperature gauges failed to work properly. finally, there is no odometer reading or gear indicator showing on cluster. *kb

The speedometer work intermittently causing problems not knowing how fast or slow we are driving. it is a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer and i contacted chevrolet about this issue, but went on deaf ears. they have other suv/truck recalls for the same issue, but nothing for the trailblazer. there are many complaints for the same issue on internet sites and no action by any one to resolve this safety issue... *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. she stated that while driving 40 mph all of the lights on the instrument control panel failed, then immediately turned back on. the vehicle was taken to the dealership for inspection. a technician concluded that because they could not duplicate the failure, they could not make any repairs. the failure and current mileages were 56,000. bl

While driving on the freeway, my speedometer failed and started reporting the speed well above the speed i was going. my speedometer now gets stuck between 70-120mph even when parked. this presents a safety issue as i have no idea of the speed at which i am traveling. *tr

1. speedometer cluster is defective, 2. still broke, 3. reported to chevrolet, i paid for diagnosis, chevy advised there is no recall or financial assistance available. *tr

The speedometer on my 2004 chevy trailblazer doesen'twork due to the stepper motors in the instrument cluster gm knows of the complaints on their other vehicles of the same years and have repaired them. the speedometer starts out working but fails after a few miles down the road. i've read e-mails from people on the internet who have gotten speeding tickets from this problem. *tr

My 2004 chevrolet trailblazer 4x4 v6 is experiencing some instrument panel cluster problems. this is the second time as i had the instrument panel cluster entirely replaced once already. the fist time, the tachometer stopped working and the speedometer malfunctioned showing incorrect speeds at different times, including showing 80mph when sitting still in the driveway. now the instrument panel has malfunctioned again. now my battery gauge, fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge, and temp gauge stopped working and and are at zero as if the car is off. most of my warning lights are on also. the abs, seatbelt, battery, and parking brake lights stay on. also, the gear indicator light telling me if i am in p,r,n,d, etc no longer highlights the gear i am in and the cruise control light doesn't come on when i engage the cruise control. however, i would say once out of every 15-20 times i drive the car the instrument panel and gauges work flawlessly. obviously this time it is not the motors of the gauges that are the problem, but something power and/or electrical. i'm worried about knowing how much gas i have left and, more importantly, what my speed is, whether the engine temp is ok, and whether the oil pressure is normal. *tt

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that all the components on the instrument panel began to fail one by one until nothing on the instrument panel functioned at all. the vehicle had not been inspected at the time of the complaint. the failure mileage was unknown. the current mileage was approximately 130,000. updated 11/03/10. *lj

Had p0128 code for about 1 year. replaced thermostat after p1680 code, reduced engine power light came on. reduced engine power light went away on next crank up to move vehicle and change thermostat. abs and brake lights both on intermittently. tachometer has been sticking and speedometer showed erratic signs around 55 mph. now all gauges going wacko or not working at all at times. temperature gauge wrapped completely around without even starting cold engine. about a mile later, instrument panel lit completely up then went away, gauges reset, and ran fine with properly operating instrument panel... at least until i got home. then wacko stuff again. reset pcm by disconnecting battery cable, now things seem fine... for now. i'm told to redo bad ground on ecbm before suspecting bad abs module and to replace ignition switch before suspecting bad instrument cluster and pcm. however, dealer analysis said abs module got moisture in it and the instrument panel needs to be replace. first is a $1000 abs module, second is a $400 panel, both have labor charges additional. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving at any speed, the rpm light illuminated and the speedometer failed to operate. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 120,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving approximately 40 mph the contact noticed the speedometer was operating erratically and would also freeze at a certain number. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the speedometer was manually reset yet the failure recurred. the vehicle was not further repaired. in addition, the contact stated that the plastic that covered the instrument cluster was also damaged from attempting to reset the speedometer. the manufacturer was contacted but offered no assistance. the approximate failure mileage was 69,000. updated 6/8/11 *cn updated 06/16/11

I have a 2004 trailblazer that has 98,000 miles on it. about 6 months ago my speedometer started messing up at first it would just mess up every once in a while now the rpm gauge has started acting up and the speedometer is never right. i have had my truck looked at and they say it is the instrument cluster and it will be $600.00 to fix. i have seen all the complaints about this on trailblazers and i think it should be recalled because i think this is a manufacture problem since it is happening in so many vehicle..... *tr

Electrical system & control panel in my 2004 chevy trailblazer ls has been malfunctioning for many, many months, to include total darkness and constant "dinging" of the alarms. my local dealer continues to tell me that they "can not replicate" the problem on the computer; even though the technician has seen the "dead" panel with his own eyes. he claims he has to duplicate the problem. obviously i have been dealing with a bunch of idiots or liars. i am convince both, after reading almost 700 complaints with your agency. where is the protection for the consumer? who is going to help all these people and the "thousands" who don't know about the widespread problem. gm should be required to recall these cars for the control panel failures. please help us. no one else will...... *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving all of the gauges on the instrument control panel failed without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealership for inspection. a technician stated that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. there were no prior warnings. the current and failure mileages were 84773. updated 01/12/10 *bf the consumer stated none of the gauges worked and he could tell what gear the vehicle was in. updated 01/15/10.*jb

I am a military member and have been back and forth to iraq and afghanistan, i own a chevy trailblazer 2004, the speedometer has been messed up for several months showing 30 mph at a stop and changing every day to a new speed. it is a very stressful knowing that your spouse is in the states driving a unreliable vehicle, on top of the stress from the deployment itself. to get this fixed its going to cost 400-600 dollars which should not have to paid by the vehicle owners since it is a large complaint for most of the chevy models from 04-06. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the air bag warning light would intermittently illuminate and the rpm gauge would continue to fluctuate between rpms. the dealer performed a diagnostic and found that the instrument panel was failing. the vehicle was not repaired. in addition, the contact stated the seat belts would not operate and the instrument panel completely failed. the failure mileage was 58,000 and the current mileage was 73,000.

All dash components intermittent for a few days, now all gauges inoperative. unable to determine speed, engine condition, gas level. *tr

Speedometer is inoperable. tachometer works occassionally. oil gauge is now starting to fail. there are only 41,000 miles on this vehicle and it is not only inconvenient to operate this vehicle without a speedometer, it is unsafe. speedometer was the first gauge to go, then the tachometer began to faulter and the oil gauge followed. tach sometimes resets itself to zero and may work for a week before it begins to fail again. there was no specific event leading up to the instrument cluster failure. it just began one gauge at a time. i have had it looked at by two seperate mechanics and was told that instrument failure in this type of vehicle is very common although no recall has been issued to correct this problem. i can have it repaired for $500.00 - $1000.00. anything that you can do will be greatly appreciated. *tr

Headlights , rear lights and brakelights bulbs have been replaced several dozen times. they burn up so need replacing. have replaced full boards in rear lights as well, after several days all go out again and will replace again. i have brought it to the dealership in the past and they have said that certain vin numbers with same problem have been recalled for this but mine hasn't been recalled yet. strong smell of gas has started over the past couple months. i am assuming as stated in several other reports it is due to the fuel line having some sort of crack.

All the gauges except the speedometer of my 2004 chevy trail blazer went out. *tr

2004 chevy trailblazer has significant electrical system issues. the tachometer is inconsistent and will read 1000 rpm when you know the engine is at least 3000. also, similar problems with other gauges. sometimes they work for a few days, and then don't. also, constantly needs jumped. just got a new battery two weeks ago, and already won't turn over. good connections and clean terminals, but for whatever reason the electrical system drained the battery. this has been non-stop! none of this covered by dealership! *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. in july of 2009, the speedometer began to fail. on one occasion, while driving between 20-30 mph, the speedometer registered 90 mph. the second failure occurred while driving 55 mph and the speedometer displayed 30 mph. the contact replaced the battery, but the failure was not corrected. she took the vehicle to the dealer and they reprogrammed the computer, which corrected the issue for a few months. the contact will take the vehicle back to the dealer. report number 71-749316845 was filed with the manufacturer and they stated that she will not be charged the total price for the repair at the dealer. the current and failure mileages were 29,000.

I have a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the speedometer, the fuel gauge and the tachometer no longer works on this vehicle. when i called the chevrolet customer service center, to check for a recall, i was told that there was no recall for the trailblazer. there was however a recall for the exact same problem on the chevrolet avalanche, tahoe and suburban. i just cant understand why chevrolet will not recall the trailblazer for the exact same problem. my speedometer sometimes registers to the point of seeing no numbers on the needle. the gas gauge rarely registers that i even have any gas. i have to keep up with my gas manually and with my trip odometer. i find this very disturbing that chevrolet will not recall the trailblazer. what can i do as a consumer to help chevrolet make this obvious problem right? *tr

2004 chevy trailblazer. gauges quit working or dont work correctly including the speedometer which could cause someone to miss judge speed and cause an accident. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact parked the vehicle, but could not exit because the lock system failed. in addition, the speedometer remains at 30 mph. the contact found other complaints from consumers who were experiencing the same issues. the instrumental panel lights remain illuminated and fail to dim. the gauges also do not work. the dealer stated thta it would cost between $70-$85 to diagnose the vehicle. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure and current mileages were 41,600. updated 07/10/09. *lj updated 07/10/09.*jb

Battery went dead after the car sat a week. dealer replace the battery and said the instrument cluster checked fine. next day voltmeter pegged past number, tach and speedometer stopped working. now dealer says the instrument cluster needs replacing. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving 40 mph, the speedometer read 110 mph. in addition, the rpm display was failing. the contact stated that the speedometer is stuck at 110 mph and has not changed with continuous driving. he is in the process of taking the vehicle to the dealer and notifying the manufacturer. after further research, the contact was able to determine that the instrument cluster panel was failing. the repair would cost $500. no repairs have been made. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 51,000 and current mileage was 51,900.

Electrical problems: car will die without warning (took this to chevy and they could not find a problem, low beams repeatedly go out after changing fuse, speedometer stopped working completely, fuel gauge stopped working completely, front a/c will not blow ever, different panel lights do not work, panel buttons function incorrectly. *tr

2004 chevrolet trailblazer speedometer is consistently incorrect. the speedometer will frequently reset the point of zero mph. e.g. zero will be set at 50 mph so when the vehicle is actually traveling 20 mph, the speedometer will read 70 mph. the only way to reset the point of zero is to turn the vehicle off and start the car over and over again, lowering the point of zero by about 5 mph at each vehicle start. *tr

I own a 2004 chevy trailblazer lt and in the last six months my speedometer stops working. it freezes either at 10 mph or goes all over the 120 mph. when i received my recent oil changed i asked for them to check it and than said they would need to replace cluster kit to the tune of $500.00. but they wanted me to check with gm and see if there was recall because they have seen several 2004 trailblazers with the same problem. when i looked up gm there was no recall issued, so now i have to pay out of pocket to get it fixed. i was told to file a compliment. *tr

The speedometer does not display the correct speed. causing the driver to drive at unknown speeds. the gauge will stick at 25mph or not work at all. the driver has to guess at what speeds they are driving. this happens intermittently so sometimes the speed is correctly displayed and most of the time it is incorrect. i contacted gm dealership for repair options and the price for the part alone is $400. i contacted gm they told me no recall or "special policy" covered my vehicle. but there is a "special policy" for other gm trucks of the same year. the policy covers the exact problem with the gauge cluster or instrument panel. the number is bulletin number: 07187a. being unable to drive at known speeds is a very dangerous driving condition. *tr

We have a 2004 chevy trailblazer. all gauges but the tachometer completely stop working. they will work in the morning, but when i leave work they stop working. this has started happening more and more frequently. i have to rely on my tachometer on how fast i am going. i don't know when that will stop working. this is not safe and also i have read many reports from other trailblazer owners that have had the same problem. i think there should be a recall on these gauges. *tr

Started up truck to warm up after about 3 minutes heard bang and both front airbags had deployed for no reason. prior to this had issue with intermittent dash board lights (battery, speed odometer, seatbelt and airbag lights) being on. gm refuses to cover because i did not take to "dealer". i took it to my local mechanic instead who could find no issue other than corroded grounds. currently it is being repaired by my insurance company. *tr

Speedometer and tach work intermittently. i believe this is a safety issue, drivers need to be aware of the speed they are traveling. *tr

Repeated instances of speedometer failing to read correct speed. often reads up to 120 mph while stopped. random behavior. has been occurring for last 8 months. can be temporarily corrected by repeatedly turning ignition on and off without starting engine. occurs when driving at normal highway speeds. speedometer continues to climb until it hits its limit at well over 120 mph regardless of actual speed or when stopped. very unsafe condition, particularly for people who are limited in their ability to judge speeds. *tr

The speedometer does not display correct speed, will show 80 mph when only going 35 to 40 mph. when turning off engine needle will not go back to zero. very dangerous. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving 60 mph, the instrument panel gauges blinked on and off, failed completely, and then returned to normal. there was no warning prior to the failure. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the instrument cluster failed. the repair would cost $100. the vehicle is currently being repaired. the contact called the manufacturer and was informed that no compensation would be provided because the failure was not covered under warranty or recall. the failure mileage was 47,000 and current mileage was 47,500. updated 08/28/09 *bf updated 08/31/09.*jb

Speedometer and tachometer quit working there is a short in the heater level 4 and 5 do not work and my warranty did not cover the problems. i use to buy dodge but i decided to switch to chevy i bought a trailblazer with two year extended warranty but nothing seems to be claimed under the warranty i call gm they said there is nothing that covers it i think i am going to switch bar ck to dodge. i will never buy another chevy unless there is something that can be done to correct the problem. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the instrument panel gauges failed without warning and displayed inaccurate readings. the dealer stated that the entire panel needed to be replaced. he is in the process of having the vehicle repaired. the failure and current mileages were 80,000.

I have noticed my 2004 chevy trailblazer is having issues with the tachometer. it is sticking at around 4000 rpm and won't reset to 0. this seems to be a very common complaint from what i can find. i'm afraid that this problem could spread into other gauges which would be a serious safety issue. *tr

Instrument cluster failure. speedometer & all other gauges suddenly failed. no speed or vehicle information available to driver. *tr

Low beam headlight connection shorts out and burns, and heater and a/c controls don't work anymore when you try to turn on heat or a/c kills engine. i have already replaced the liftgate module, that fixed the problem of not being able to lock the vehicle and sometimes starting it. this all started at about 92,000 miles. estimated repair cost for heat and a/c around $600.00. *tr

I have a 2004 chevy trailblazer that has faulty gauges. a few months ago my trailblazer speedometer became inoperative, and it currently points straight down. same goes with my oil gauge. it has been estimated between 500-600 dollars to repair, but after research, i have found many consumers have done this for the same problem to resurface. i feel that not knowing what speed you are going poses a major threat to my family, myself and anyone else on the road. please resolve this issue. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving 10-15 mph, the vehicle started to loose power. occasionally the vehicle shut off, the battery and rpm gauges also stopped working. the contact feels is aware of the safety risk since the vehicle shut off without warning which could result in a crash. the current mileage was 90,000 and the failure mileage was 70,000.
