We have classified the 377 complaints from 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
While driving at night noticed no low beam head lights. flipped to high beam and they worked. called a friend who said to check the relay by switching the fan relay with low beam relay. that was problem. purchased a new relay next day and installed it. 2 days later, no low beam lights again. popped cover on relays to find a melted mess. low beam relay had melted along with the 15 amp fuse adjacent to it as well as the fuse box. upon further research on line, this seems to be an ongoing issue with this vehicle. i'm currently hunting down a used under hood fuse/relay box to replace this one with. *tr

Gas gauge and oil pressure gauge stopped working. *tr
The dash control panel has stopped working or only certain items showing speed, temp and oil pressure work on occasion. after searching online for repair options there are a number of complaints for the same problems for this specific vehicle. *tr
The gauge cluster stopped working. i have no speedometer, no temp sensor, no oil pressure, and no battery charge. *tr
Speedometer stuck at 0 mph even when vehicle was in motion on highway. *tr

The instrument panel randomly goes off then on, sometimes freezes. happens at any speed. no special characteristics that causes it. *tr
There are a few things. and i just would like to know if there is a recall or possible recall issue at hand. the first thing that happened was the rpm gaudge. it will stick at 3000rpm or higher. but the engine is not over reving and the needle still moves up and down as if it would when reading correctly. but doesn't drop below the 3000rpm. then it randomly resets and works correctly then will again randomly stick at 3000 empty or higher. the next thing that happens is the battery light will randomly flicker. not all the time just at random. i had the battery tested and its holding a charge just fine. the weird thing next was i killed the power. no key in at all and it still flickered on my dashboard. then stopped the next day. another thing i was driving home 1 night from work. turned my blinkers on to turn onto my road and my interior lights slowly come on and slowly turn back off. my head light wire on the drivers side burnt out about a yr ago which i replaced. now i'm having issues with the drivers side. the bulb for my low beam is not blown. if u hit it comes back on. my drivers side speaker has not worked since i purchased my trailblazer. and it will randomly work. this is recent. i really think there is an electrical problem. and my consent is a fire. ive had it just under 2 yrs. and i'm only the 2nd owner and it had 34000 miles on it when i bought it in june of 2011. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that while inspecting the vehicle, he discovered that the brake lights were not functioning correctly. upon further investigation, it was determined that the sockets for the lights had become burned. in addition, the passenger side headlight intermittently failed and the socket for the passenger headlight was also found to be burned. the vehicle was not taken to a mechanic or the dealer. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 92,000 and the current mileage was 96,112.
speedometer and gauge panel not working. no gauges move to show speed, gas level, battery level, temp. *tr
After driving my ls trailblazer to the store, i got back in to notice the speedometer was no longer resting at "0". this was before i even started the vehicle. it was sitting at the "55" point! upon starting the vehicle, the gauge did not move back to zero. so as i drove away, going no more than 10mph, the gauge suggested i was going 65! i was scared driving home because i did not know my exact speed. upon getting home and shutting off the vehicle, i noticed the gauge rested at the "50" point. so i turned on the vehicle, then quickly turned it off. the speedometer was now resting at "45". i continued to quickly start and then shut off the vehicle, eventually working the gauge back down to zero. but this does not seem like the right thing to do. there is obviously something wrong. in the past, i have had smaller scale incidents with the tachometer gauge. it would zero itself at 1 or 2 rpms, thus indicating my engine was revving higher than it actually was. moreover, a couple times my fuel gauge was pointing outside of the e to f range! there is something seriously wrong with the electrical system. gm, you need to recall this and fix it please. *tr
The instrument gauges started to act up. it first began with the gas tank gauge not working and then the speedometer soon followed. *tr
The speedometer, gas gauge and rpm gauges stopped working shortly after we purchased this vehicle used. i understand that this is an issue that has not be taken care of. please do something. *tr
I can start my vehicle and the gauges started sticking. i am constantly being shocked by the driver door. my gauges no longer work at all and have completely went haywire. i have no dash lights. my vehicle has just died in the middle of a busy street. i do not know how much fuel i have, how fast i am going. my cruise control either at times increases my speed or does not hold the speed. i have to use a gps device to know approximate speed. this vehicle needs to be recalled. i love my vehicle but it has tons of issues. *tr
I have the same problem that an earlier blogger as, all my gauges are stuck, the speedometer is stuck, the oil gauge stuck, gas gauge stuck, i think gm needs to take control of their problem and correct it, not just say it's not a problem they will not fix. there needs to be a recall for this problem pin the trailblazer trucks. *tr
I have a 2004 chevy trailblazer and the cluster is going bad . finding out that i'm not the only one that has this problem . i had the same problem with my chevy avalanche and it was recalled . i think that this a problem while driving . i think someone should do something before someone gets hurt. because the gauges go out the on and while driving. it could hurt a young driver that doesn't what to do. gm knows the problem but will not do anything about it . it the same problem that they did a recall on with the trucks. so i think they should fix this problem. so could you please help before someone gets hurt bad over this problem. thank you please help! *tr
This was actually the second or third incident where the key got stuck in the ignition, blazer was in park the lights remained on so did the radio anything that is typically on during aux, but this was the beginning of a long problem that lead to me trading off..the key gets stuck you can not remove it caused the battery to go bad, it would begin to happen often the service engine soon light would come on, the transmission would not shift above 3rd gear, also shortly after the purchase in sept of 2011 the speedometer stopped working. the blazer died 3 times gauges on dash would periodicly stop working. my service 4 wheel would come on randomly the key issue was the biggest problem but it was only a matter of time before other things went wrong. when the key would get stuck in the igintion as stated the transmission would not shift properly in the beginning the transmission would act out once you took it out of park it was noticeable but as the problem became worse it started happening driving down the highway i noticed once that i have successfully made it through 1-2-3 but never got out of 3. i should state that when the key was stuck i would have to manually shift through the first and second then put it into drive otherwise the car had no power because it would be stuck in the higher gear.tried to contact the dealership as there was a recall on the dash for the 2003 model and they told us it wasnt a safety problem i do not understand how random loss of power and random car dying is not a safety issue, i have been watching the list of gm recalls and i have not seen much about the trailblazers, and it bothers me that i am sure there are other issues like the ones that i had. on another note transmission related my neighbors just had to get rid of their trailblazer 2006 for transmission problems. *js
I was driving down the freeway when i noticed my headlights went dark. all the other electrical components worked well (radio and stuff) and the lights came back on about 10 seconds later. the incident has happened a few times, but i can't figure out what is causing it. it's happened on the highway, the street, my driveway when i pull in... usually it lasts about 20 seconds and then the lights come back on. the high beams still seem to work, though. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the ignition switch could be turned without the key being in the ignition, causing the battery to drain. the key was removed and the ignition switch remained in the accessory mode which caused that battery failure. the contact had to constantly to check to ensure that the ignition was in the off position after removing the key. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 65,000. ..updated 08/11/14 *bf updated 08/19/2014 *js
One day when i was driving i stopped my vehicle and the speedometer read 60 mph at a standstill. as i continued to accelerate it increased until it reached well past 120 mph. each time the vehicle is stopped the speedometer sometimes goes back but never to 0. the rpm does not function at all, and not sure when that stopped working. the speedometer did fix itself and then started again a month later. the second time is when the problem started with the rpm not functioning. i have seen multiple incidents with people complaining of these same issues and have saved the issues. i contacted the dealer and they are stating that this is not a manufacturers defect and stated it is $300 to replace a "internal fault in the dash cluster." this is what i was told by someone in the service department at a chevrolet dealership. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the entire cluster gauge was inoperable. the contact was unable to see the current vehicle speed due to the failure. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the cluster gauge need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 102,000.
While driving on the freeway with my family the speedometer and tach stopped working. we have been calling gm to find a solution with no results. i have come to realize that i am one of many with this same issue with their 2004 trailblazer. we cannot understand how gm can say that this is not a safety issue when this puts our children and families in danger when ever they are in a vehicle that is not producing accurate feedback concerning our speed and performance of the vehicle. *tr
Many times while driving this suv, the engine has just shut off. it will start right back up. however it is scary and we have tried to figure this out for quite some time now. the worst time was when i was getting on a busy interstate and the car cut off. i don't know if the vehicle was doing this prior to our purchase. i can not get any information from carmax in regard to this. it is well maintained and due to this, i rarely take it out on the road anymore. *tr
Speedometer and tach works erratically. speedometer works approx. 25% of the time. *tr
In december 2011 my rpm gauge stop working. i did some research and found that there are several complaints about the same problem with the 2004 chevy trailblazer. then, on december 7,2012 my speedometer stop working and now all the other gauges are starting to malfunction. there are recalls on this same problems for 2005 and 2006 trailblazers. gm didn't issue a recall on the 2004 chevy trailblazers. i filed a compliant with the attorney general's office against general motors. a representative from general motors called and said there was not anything that they could do, because the vehicle has met its life expectancies. they will not doing anything because my vehicle is over 100,000 miles. he basically told me that once the vehicle reaches 100,000 miles that general motors does not stand behind their product. *tr
Fuel gauge has been fluctuating wildly for a couple of months, generally reading empty (even after fill up) but occasionally full (when a fill up is needed). dealer said fuel gauge sensor was bad & that it would be approx $900 to fix. looking into the problem online i see there are thousands of people with the same problem. *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact was driving 75 mph when the instrument panel gauges failed to provide accurate readings. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who confirmed that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was contacted but the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 179,000 and the current mileage was 179,500.
Instrument panel stopped working. first the tachometer - then the speedometer. *tr
Beginning with the tachometer in 2011, the remaining gauges on the instrument panel cluster have proceeded to stop working over the next two plus years to the point that none of them work anymore (including the speedometer). we have no idea how fast we are driving nor do we know the status of our fuel level. *tr
First, all my lights on the instrument panel would flash at random times (like the seatbelt, abs, check engine soon, etc.). then my tachometer (rpm gauge) stopped working. next my gas gauge stopped working. next came the speedometer. it would get stuck at different speeds as a starting point and i would have to subtract that starting point speed from my speedometer speed to find the actual speed. for instance, if the speedometer was stuck on 25 mph when i was stopped at a red light, then once i picked up speed to 100 mph, i knew i was traveling at 75 mph. for the last 5 months though the speedometer hasn't worked at all. *tr
My 2004 chevy trailblazer instrument gauges started going haywire. everything that i have read says the whole panel needs replaced. the oil, battery, temp and gas clusters stopped working then all of a sudden while driving down the road start working again. then the speedometer and tach stopped and started and now nothing is coming on. i have no idea how much fuel that i have and all of the warning lights are all lit up. waiting for the whole thing to blow. i currently have it at a gm dealer and they said that it will cost me 500 bucks to replace the panel. i told them to go ahead because i don't feel safe driving like that. i have to have this vehicle to work and i want gm to pay for this to be fixed. major safety concern for me! *tr
The speedometer stopped working today. i checked online to see if anyone else was having the same problem. apparently there is a lot of us all experiencing the same problem. i don't think it is fair that we all have to pay $500 to repair the problem. if we are all having the same problem there is obviously something wrong. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the vehicle would not start and the only lights that would function were the fog lights and high beams. the vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. the failure and the current mileages were 91,000.
The stepper motors in the instrument cluster have failed. this is an extremely common problem and people are now making a living off of charging for the repairs because gm is refusing to issue a recall. *tr
The speedometer and tachometer give improper readings. they failed whilst i was driving on the interstate at 70 mph. *tr
Love the vehicle except the fact all my gauges stick.... gm had told me this has to be safety issue in order to be recalled... i'm pretty sure not knowing how fast i am going on the highway is a safety issue... especially with little children in the car. this is unacceptable. i refuse to pay for a defect that is happening in many gm vehicles... if i can find all the complaints i'm sure gm can as well. how do we get gm to fix these problems and try to keep customers???? *js
The speedometer on my 2004 trailblazer operates very erratically. at times it does not work at all at times it registers way slow or way fast. this to me is a major safety issue. if driving on snowy roads you can not tell how fast your wheels are spinning and this could cause loss of control of the vehicle. or another scenario, traveling on the interstate and the miles per hour is registering between 5 and 10 mph less that you are actually traveling. this could pose a rear end collision problem as those traveling behind you may not notice that your speed is slower. a properly functioning speedometer is a vital part of being able to drive the vehicle in a safe manner, not only for your safety but for those around you. in searching the internet this seems to be more of a "common" problem than what one might realize. general motors should be held accountable for this problem, as a properly functioning speedometer is an important safety feature. the same as brakes failure, throttle sticking, fire hazard or any other myriad of items on a vehicle are related to the proper and safe operation beyond the operators control. please look into this. thank you *tr
Speedometer does not register proper speed. reads at 0 mph when going 65mph or any other mph for that matter. at no time is the speedometer ever accurate. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trail blazer. the contact stated that the heating and air conditioning fan control would not work until it reached level four of the five settings. in addition, the speedometer was inoperable. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 90,000.
The speedometer in my 2004 trailblazer regularly becomes stuck while i'm driving. *tr
Instrument panel failure, ran out of gas on a busy four lane highway during morning rush hour. i was in the left hand lane and was unable to move to the shoulder. i now became a major traffic problem until some nice citizen helped me push the truck out of harms way, having to stop both lanes of traffic so i could cross. had i a working gas gauge i feel this would not have happened, none of the instruments in the vehicle work, chevy has recalled other models of this year with the same problems, but not the trailblazer. why? *kb
**instrument cluster** my speedometer started sticking when i would accelerate or dropping below 0 when i would stop. after several weeks the speedometer stopped working completely. none of the other gauges appeared to be affected. i ended up having to have the instrument cluster replaced. the repair facility had to order it directly from chevrolet which meant i was without the vehicle for 2-3 days as the dash was completely pulled apart. the repairs were around $800. i have seen quite a few other instances of instrument cluster failure in those and other models of chevy. my brother in law said he had his replaced in his silverado and that it was covered under a recall but i have not been able to find that information. *tr
2004 chevy trailblazer gauge panel stopped working. oil temp, water temp, fuel, and volts. rpm and speedometer still ok but have heard numerous complaints on this very issue. cost to fix this issue is very expensive and not acceptable. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while parked, the contact noticed that the gauges on the instrument panel would not function. the failure would recur intermittently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing but was unable to diagnose the failure because the gauges were functioning at the time of testing. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 29,279.
While taking my girls to school my speedometer reading was 50mph faster than i was actually going and my tact was not registering at all. when i stopped the car i turned engine off and restarted the car and neither gauge works at all and hasn't in over a year. i took the vehicle to my local dealership and they want 800.00 to fix it and said it was a malfunction in the cluster and i have checked and it is a severe problem with this make and model. i have been driving without these gauges working and judge my speed with the traffic, but i am a single mom with limited resources and purchased a gm vehicle because of the safety reports. i feel that with all of the other same complaints does it take a loss of life to get this issue resolved. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the instrument panel gauges were providing faulty readings. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnosis or repairs and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not the repaired. the failure mileage was 79,000 and the current mileage was 119,000.
Since purchasing our blazer, we have replaced both headlight bulbs numerous of times including the sockets for each side. my headlights have been known to work one day and not the next. or we can simply tap it and it will go out/come on. in the last 3 months i have had the bulb on the driver side replaced twice! we have speculated that the wires are loose but when inspected, that does not seem to be the case. i have had my car at the shop (not chevy they cost too much) and they have not found anything more than a burnt bulb. within the last 2 months, i was driving on a road that was not well lit at about 10p when both headlights went out. after pulling over & deciding the only way to make it home was to drive with my flashers on, i continued my way home. half way home they came back on but before i got home they went out again. how does that happen? again, i would say it's a loose wire, but what are the odds of that on both sides? now, tonight, while my 17 year old son was driving (11p) with 2 friends with him, both headlights went out; but came back on. my lights have been known to flicker, like they are not getting enough power/too much. i have called a local dealer & am told they can run a test to see what they find. that would be great, if i had the cash flow for it; as it's not cheap just for them to "run" the test not fix it...that will cost extra. i am not sure how chevy feels there is not an issue with the headlights? if you know exactly what my issue is please tell me so that i can have some one i can afford to pay, fix it. buying bulbs is the least of my worries if that was the only issue. but for both headlights to go out at the same time, that's an issue! i would hope that you, chevy, realize this is an ongoing issue & really has nothing to do with mileage. the headlights have been an issue since we bought the vehicle. *tr
