We have classified the 377 complaints from 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
While driving my 2004 chevy trailblazer, with mileage of 52,198, i noticed that the speedometer was not registering accurately and then, within 30 minutes, the needle of the defective speedometer, permanently settled to zero; even though i was on the highway and traveling with the traffic flow of 60 m.p.h. *tr
Instrument cluster failure on 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. oil pressure and amps gauge malfunction. mechanic quoted price $650 to replace cluster. emissions failure paid dealer approximately $375 to replace emissions pump. air conditioning mode motor actuator out; blower doesn't operate on high setting. dealer quoted price $750 to fix air conditioner. sporadic electrical issues-service engine soon light on-first time code read faulty thermostat cooling sensor, next it read faulty air mass sensor, another time it read faulty emissions sensor. mechanic quoted price $40 per hour plus parts to isolate problem. a person could go broke before fixing possible problems, considering no accident occurred due to all these possibilities. front suspension problems, hard to isolate. paid mechanic $135 to replace right side inner tie rod end. did not fix problem. problem occurs when returning steering wheel from a right turn, front right side makes a single "pop" sound. had to replace "burnt" headlight pigtails on front, and park light pigtail on right rear. property damage is considered damage to vehicle due to the complaints listed. *tr
2004 chevy trailblazer speedometer reads much faster than i am actually going. when i am at a complete stop, it reads up to 60 mph. this varies by day, some days it is 30, some it is 45, etc... this is extremely dangerous as i never know the actual speed i am going and just have to use my best judgment. also, check engine light has been on for 2 years and dealer cant find anything wrong with it. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the speedometer stopped working and registers 65 mph while the vehicle is parked. the failure prevents him from knowing how fast he is traveling. the dealer has not been notified. when the contact bought the vehicle, the spare tire wrench under the rear bumper was stripped so that it could not be lowered. he had a mechanic examine the spare tire wrench and was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer. the current mileage was 66,000 and failure mileage was 62,000.
Driving on dry pavement, clear day. took freeway offramp, when i reached 40mph, the brakes locked up, went past stop sign into other highway missing other vehicle passing in front of offramp. happened twice at same speed, brakes lock up, and i pass through the stop sign. loud grinding noise coming from wheel well area, brakes recently changed about 3 months ago, noise occurs at 25-30 mph, sounds like dragging something underneath. service man checked, nothing visible. has occurred 5 times in less than 2 months. interior lights dim on vehicle then brighten constantly. door ajar light constantly coming on, back hatch window constantly opening on own driving down road. instrument panel knobs, panel itself and window and door buttons on doors extremely hot to touch. various lights on instrument panel quit working and then resume on their own. reported tach/odometer not working already. both units registering offline while driving. where are the fixes to these problems? *tr
I have a 2004 chevy trailblazer ls v6 2wd. my speedometer went out on me while i was driving. at one point it was stuck at 120 mph. i was told by gm that they have the same problem with other model and made a recall on them. when i asked if there was a recall for the 2004 model they told me that there was not because not enough people complaining. to me it sounds like they know it's a problem but will not do anything about it. *tr
Speedometer stops working at random times. it will stick at 100 and stay there for a while. sometimes it will correct after repeated starting of the engine. this is very dangerous and i was told it would cost $600 to repair. i have seen that this is a pretty consistent problem with this model suv. *tr
It started with the speedo going crazy , you will be going 45-50 and the speedo says you are going 120. at a stop sign it will say you are going 40. had it checked dealer says it's your computer it happens all the time. winner chevrolet, colfax ca. next temp gauge goes to 260 degrees. we pull over have it towed in mech. says its fine its a computer problem. now the gas gauge and volts gas empty and way over charging. mech. says it a computer. *tr
Are you guys (gals) reading the complaints centered around 2004 trailblazer and the problems with electrical systems "instrument cluster" malfunctions? i have!! there are one after another complaining about either mis-readings or no reading of instrument gauges! my 2004 trailblazer has 70m miles and the rpm reading is mis-reading as well. get gm to recall this vehicle just as they have been forced to with other passenger & truck models. speedometer and gauge mis-readings are a very serious hazards to driving and safety to the public. what else do you need to take gm on! *tr
Speedometer of 2004 chevy trailblazer is broken. it works sometimes, but recently i am clueless on what speed i'm going . i might go 55 mph and it reads 120 mph or i'll go 40mph and it'll read 10mph. ??? *tr
The speedometer on my 2004 chevrolet trailblazer gives the incorrect speed most of the time. when i compare the speedometer reading to my gps, it will sometimes read anywhere from 10 to 40 miles per hour too high or too low. the temperature gauge is also malfunctioning. i had a similar problem with my 2003 chevrolet silverado and the instrument cluster was replaced under a recall. at this time, no recall has been issued by gm for my 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. *tr
2004 chevy trailblazer. the speedometer does not work properly. *tr
The speedometer on my 2004 chevrolet trailblazer displays a reading of 120 mph and over when traveling at normal speeds on highway (middle lane, many other cars passing on left). this was reported to a car dealer who informed me that the instrument panel needs to be replaced (at my cost). *tr
Faulty speedometer! it started displaying the wrong speed. took about two weeks and now it doesn't move. *tr
Speedometer provides false and incorrect speeds. happens at normal road speed or while in park. sometimes reads high or low. *tr
The speedometer is malfunctioning. it will sometimes read 110 when i am only going 20. i have talked to a mechanic and they said it is the instrument cluster and it will cost about 500.00 to fix it. he said he has had several complaints for this same issue on his model. i have seen several complaints on it on the internet and i think a recall should be issued. sometimes the speedometer stops working at all and this is very big problem. i don't think i should have to pay to get this fixed when it is a manufacturer issue and i think a recall should be issued. please help.... *tr
Instrument panel failure: owner states that instrument/gauge panel began to fail at or about 39,000 miles when the temperature was below 38' f degrees, that same year during the summer months speed gauge began to malfunction followed by all other gauges(rpm, gas, temp) at 50,000 miles, regardless of weather conditions. currently there is a total failure of all gauges. *tr
I have a 2004 trailblazer. at 30,0000 miles the speedometer stopped working while i was driving on the freeway. i worked occasionally but now is totally nonfunctioning. the car only has 35,000 miles on it. i have been told this is not an item covered by any warranty. this is a major safety issue and there needs to be a recall. *tr
2004 chevrolet trailblazer speedometer stuck at 80 mph. *tr
2004 chevy trailblazer instrument cluster failure. approximately 1.5 to 2 years ago i noticed that i had on and off problems with the rpm gauge and gas gauge. the other gauges, including the speedometer, started to fail and now none of them work at all. the vehicle has not been in any accidents and at this point, i have not had any work done to repair the problem due to the cost. i have been informed that this is a problem for this type of vehicle and that gm has recalled other vehicles of the same year for the same problem, but have not done it with the trailblazer. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that while driving 30 mph the fuel displayed a half tank of gasoline; however, the fuel tank was empty causing the vehicle to shut off. the contact stated that at times the entire instrument cluster would malfunction. the dealer stated that the entire instrument cluster needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was fully aware of the instrument cluster failure but had not released a recall. the failure mileage was 82,400.
Instrument cluster stopped working. *tr
I have a 2004 chevy trailblazer. the speedometer is not reading correctly. i can be at a stop light and it will read i am doing 90mph. i do believe this should be a recall by reading all the complaints on this problem. i don't have the extra money to have this problem fixed. i do believe it should be the manf. responsibility to fix it.*tr
The engine temperature and battery charge meter are inoperative, the needles point down (off the gauge). the speedometer and tach gauges also work intermittently. the dealer offered to replace the entire instrument cluster for approx $700, but this part is not under any kind of original or extended warranty. this same part was recalled on several other gm models, but not including the trailblazer. not having a temperature gauge and speedometer has potentially seriously dangerous consequences, gm needs to recall and replace this part immediately. *tr
The dashboard gauges began displaying incorrect information followed a day later by complete failure. i know others with the same problems. there is no recall for this error. there is no way to determine the speed of the car. this is a very expense and common error for the trailblazer. *tr
2004 chevy trailblazer gauge cluster. the speedometer started having random reading @ about 100,000 miles. *tr
2004 chevrolet trailblazer ls: 76k miles 1. instrument panel intermittently malfunctions under normal operating conditions, the speedometer will not register correct speed and will move past 120 mph when in park (needle pointing straight down), sounds like a popping or crackling noise from instrument panel at times. i thought this problem was more prone to happen more with very cold or very hot temperature outside but now also happens no matter what the temperature is outside. only way i have found to get speedometer back to zero is to start engine and turn off engine after minute or so - this process could take starting/re-starting 20 to 30 times to get speedometer back to zero. bad for starter and consumes too much gasoline to continue doing this. 2. service engine soon light comes on intermittently under normal operating conditions. all electrical (lights, radio, a/c, etc.) cut offs and engine cuts off when driving under normal conditions - sometimes this occurs while driving and sometimes occurs when slowing to stop at a traffic light. at times i will smell a burning smell like something electrical is burning. i immediately pull over, turn off the car and check under the hood but cannot see anything burning however i smell it. after the vehicle sits for a few minutes it can be restarted and i do not smell the burning smell. i am a single mom with college/high school children (ages 25, 22, 17) living at home and i have a 7 month old grandchild at home. i am on a very limited budget and do not have money to repair either of these problems as the vehicle is out of warranty. both of these issues are safety issues. there are tons of complaints regarding chevy trailblazers on the internet. when will gm be held accountable for manufacturing and selling lemons!?! gm needs to accept responsibility and repair these lemons - the consumer's safety is at stake here. *tr
First when i bought my certified pre owned trail blazer the tachometer went out and pointed straight down then a couple months later my whole instrument cluster went completely hay wire. the speedometer, tach, oil pressure, gas gauge, everything needed to effectively drive has gone wrong. i cannot tell if i am speeding, if i am out of fuel , if my engine will over heat and this is all very dangerous on the highway, i worry constantly. i have taken it in to be fixed but cannot afford it because i am paying for my college. this is a very common problem with these vehicles and gmc/chevy should do something to fix this safety hazard. *tr
We are having the same safety issue as so many others are having with our 2004 trailblazer. the gauges do not work properly...particularly the tachometer and speedometer, but also include our headlights and radio which both occasionally flashing out for a second or so. this started happening around 47,000 miles. and since we are filing this complaint we may as well mention how our rotors and brake pads completely broke down at around 48,000 miles. *tr
Driving down the highway, looked down to check speed and it read zero. the tachometer said zero. i had to pull over and re-start the vehicle. re-starting it worked that time but not the next day when it happened again. this happens all the time now. i don't know how fast i am going. i was told that it would cost me around $500 to have it repaired. *tr
Speedometer, tachometer not working and have not been for over 1 yr. other gauges work when they want to. will cost too much to take to dealer to get fixed and have heard that there are lots of other vehicles same yr having same issues. they should do a recall on these to fix. *tr
Instrument cluster panel failure causing speedometer to not work creating a safety hazard- gm will do nothing about it. *tr
For the past several months we have been experiencing difficulty with the gauges on our 2004 chevy trailblazer. initially the speedometer was malfunctioning but we found that if we stopped the engine and restarted it, it would reset itself. over time, it has been unable to reset and currently reads 120mph while idle. additionally, the other gauges have begun to malfunction as well. the gas gauge does not work at all and the battery and oil temp gauges work on occasion. it is our understanding this is a problem on chevy trailblazers from 2002-2004, however a recall on the parts have only been called on the 02 and 03 models, not the 04. although we have not had any accidents or received any tickets from this product failure, we have ran out of gas and had to use another device to keep track of our speed. *tr
2004 chevy trailblazer all gauges have failed. one by one, speedometer, gas, oil, temp, tack. i feel this is a safety issue that gm should address. *tr
Cluster not working in 2004 chevy trailblazer. chevy recalled clusters in other chevy vehicles but not trailblazer. *tr
The speedometer and tachometer in my 2004 chevy trailblazer stopped working a few months ago. i have made several attempts to work out a solution to this problem with chevy, to no avail. i took it to the dealer to run a diagnostic test as requested by chevy, the test showed the cluster is bad. over the course of several conversations with chevy, i was told they are aware of an existing problem with the clusters, but are not going to do anything about it. i did a lot of research about this on the internet and have found that i am not the only one with a faulty cluster. this seems to be a common problem with the 2003 & 2004 chevy models. chevy admitted this to me, and are fixing "some" models, but the trailblazer is not one of them. i really don't understand! there are two class action suits, that i found on the internet, chevy is fixing the vehicles in those two states, but what about the ones of us who don't live in those states? i have not made the repairs to my vehicle, i bought a gps to keep me within the speed limit. any help you can offer is appreciated!!! thank you for your time. *tr
I own a 2004 chevy trailblazer, both the tach and speedo operate erratically. the speedo is of particular concern, the erratic reading indicates the wrong vehicle speed, mant times is reads 20 - 40mph to low which can lead driving hazard. this is significant safety issue. research on the internet shows this a very significant problem on these vehicles, with the incident rate a magnitude higher than normal / acceptable failure rates. *tr
The speed, oil, and tach gauges on a chevy trailblazer 2004 started to indicate incorrect readings. after some time the gauges would just stop working. gm will replace them for fee starting at $300+. now you can get a used cluster to replace this but you will have the wrong odometer reading which will cause a fraud. gm will not reset the odometer on a used cluster! this causes someone to pay the high price or drive around with broken gauges. doing a search on the web, i am seeing that this is not just the trailblazer and there is a lot of complaints. i would think not knowing the speed or other instrument reading could be a safety issue, since they are there for a reason. *tr
I own a 2004 chevy trailblazer with 56k mileage. in december 2008, the speedometer stopped working. i would be at stop, and the needle showed 80 mph. i brought the car to the dealership right away and they told me that the cluster needs to be replaced - but they needed to order the replacement part. i finally got it fixed a week later and it cost me approximately $525. now, for the past two weeks, the engine had suddenly shut off in the middle of driving. the "reduced power" & "check engine" lights came on. both times, it started back up after i parked it, turned off the ignition, and re-started. but after the second time, i brought it in to the dealership. i had to have the accelerator pedal replaced. cost me approx $360. these two issues are very concerning with me because if i were driving at higher speed (65mph) in the middle of the highway (instead of 30mph around town), i could have died from contacts with other vehicles because my vehicles stopped functioning! *tr
2004 chevrolet trailblazer ls with 50,000 miles speedometer stopped working. sometimes it shows 40, sometimes it shows 120mph while parked in my driveway. found to be a common problem in this model, but no recall. this is very unsafe for all drivers and passengers. january 13th, 2009 - have appointment to replace entire instrument cluster at a cost of $500 that i have to pay. gm should replace faulty parts at no cost, or at least cover part of the replacement. this model of vehicle is unsafe to drive in this condition. with other models in this same year having a recall for the same problem, i don't see why gm cannot expand it to include an obvious continuing problem. please look into this matter and have gm recall this problem for the safety of all motorists. *tr
For about 6 months, the speedometer on my 2004 trailblazer would intermittently read 120 mph and get stuck. the problem would correct after repeated starting of the engine. in december the speedometer became stuck again and has not reset. i currently have 80,000 miles on my car. i have contacted chevrolet customer care and was told that they know about this issue in many of their vehicles but no recall has been ordered. customer care wants me to take my car to my dealership at my cost ( $89.00) to have the problem diagnosed. at that point they will inform if anything can be done for me. i do not understand why gm is being allowed to get away with this. *tr
Speedometer and fuel gage completely stopped working. researched the internet and lots of people have complained of this very issue, but no recall has been made. this is a safety hazard and to fix this problem our dealership said it would cost anywhere at the least $500. this really upsets me as we cannot afford to fix this for that amount of money. *tr
We have a 2004 trailblazer lt and have issues with the speedometer not working properly. it gets stuck between 30-120mph or does not move at all. took it to a chevy dealer a few miles from our home. they said, they have to send the instrument cluster out to get repaired/ reprogrammed and it would cost $525. i don't understand why chevy does not provided some sort of discount or recall for the repairs since it seems to be a very common issue with there trailblazers. *tr
I had been driving with a faulty speedometer in my 2004 chevy trailblazer for some time without even knowing it was not working properly. inability to gauge speed is a major safety concern in my opinion and the problem is not limited to my vehicle. it is a well known defect affecting gm clusters, so much so that is has been the source of a recall in the silverado. that, however does nothing to help the other thousands of people with these defective and dangerous clusters made by the same company driving in other gm vehicles like the trailblazer with no indication of their speed. a product that affects safety like this does should be immediately recalled for all affected vehicles. when i searched for gm cluster there are well over 500 complaints about these and no less than 3 companies out there independently fixing them while gm does nothing about the problem. thank you for your attention to this serious matter. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact was driving at an unknown speed when the fuel gauge began to fluctuate back and forth between different readings. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was advised that the instrument cluster was failing. the vehicle was not repaired. the voltage gauge and rpm gauge had since stopped functioning and the speedometer would fail intermittently. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 100,000.
A week ago i started my 2004 chevy trailblazer and noticed my speedometer was reading 70 mph in park and rpm gauge at 6000. it has not been right since - fluctuating anywhere between 0- 120mph while at a stop or driving . from my understanding, there has not been a recall issued. this is a safety issue that should not be ignored! *tr
At about 65,000 miles my tachometer started to read improper, later my gauges began to read improper. this doesn't happen all the time. but you can't trust them. you never know how fast you are going, if you have fuel, if your engine is overheating,if battery is charging, if i have oil pressure. i am on disibilty and can't afford the several hundered dollars it will cost to repair. i have found from a few sources this is a common problem. i just talked to gm, i was told that if i had it repaired to keep my reciepts. but there is no recall on the 04 trailblazer only on full size vehicles. so if i spent more money on an other venicle gm would fix it and make it safe. i feel it is unsafe for myself or my wife. *tr
The speedometer does not register the speed of the vehicle. i don't know how fast or slow i am going. *tr
This trail blazer has been a lemon every since i bought it.first two batteries kept swelling up and smoking and then it wouldn't start. i replaced the alternator. then the motor threw a rod. i put another motor in it. then the check engine light came on. i took it and had it put on a machine to check it out. it cannot be checked because the machine reads that the computer is dead. it stalls every now and then and gets horrible gas mileage. i replaced the gas cap but it didn't help. now the transmission has went out of it. previously it automatically locked the doors when it was running locking me out. there should be a recall on all these electric problems. i do not have any money to fix these problems yet i have 16 more months to pay on this truck. i've always bought chevrolet's but i will never buy another one and so will a lot of other people. if they can't stand behind there vehicle's their no good for anything. all these different problems started at different dates. i also had to put a new exhaust system on it. i don't know how it is still running with the computer dead. *tr
We purchased a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer in 2007. beginning in 2008, our instrument cluster began to fail, starting with the speedometer. at times, the speedometer showed 15 to 20 mph slower than actual speed, resulting in unsafe and unlawful speeds. the cluster then failed in the fuel sensor and oil pressure sensor areas, and has not worked in over 2 years. when gm was contacted, they indicated they had not received any complaints about the issue. however, when looking online at forums and other resources, and talking with gm/chevrolet dealer mechanics, this problem is widespread and common, resulting in expensive repair bills and in cases giving vehicle owners no choice but to drive an unsafe vehicle due to not having the resources to get the factory defect repaired. *tr
