We have classified the 377 complaints from 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Rpm gauge failed, then the oil gauge and now the battery gauge. why won't they have a formal recall and chevrolet pay for it? they did have a bulletin but the trailblazer was not included. i would like them to pay for it? *tr
My speedometer and tachometer do not work on my 2004 chevy trailblazer. occasionally my check engine light will stay on as well. *tr
Headlights dim and flicker at random times, mostly at start up. dealer has replaced alternator twice and problem was resolved for about 2 months and has since recurred. *tr
Purchased my trailblazer brand new in 2004 and started having problem with the instrument cluster in may of 2007 the speedometer has stopped working the battery and oil gauges are not reading and the rpm gauges works at random. i taken the truck back to the dealership and was told ir would be $400 to repair and it not covered under any warranty work. i'm also having a problem with the headlight working at random. they will work but cut off while i'm driving at night. i feel both issues need to have a mass recall on all 2002-2007 trailblazers. *tr
While driving, the instrument panel alternates between dinging and flashing first the abs/brake light, then both seat belt lights and then the check 4 wheel drive. the read out also goes from driver unknown to driver 1. *tr
2004 chevrolet trailblazer 4.2l instrument panel does not work-speedometer, tachometer, temp. gauge, oil pressure. *tr
I also have a 2004 trailblazer that the gauges stopped working. it started out with miss-reading the speed, as in reading higher than the actual speed. like going 120 mph when really going 25 mph. now it is currently stuck with the needle pointing straight at neutral. then just last week. my low fuel light came on. the next time i started the truck it was up to 1/2 a tank and as i drove it went to 3/4 then 10 miles later it slowly dropped back to 1/4 then the light came on again and then back to a 1/4 of tank. this is an on going problem with these trucks. i know 3 other people with trailblazers and 2 of them are having the same problem. the dealership told me it would run about $850 to fix and needless to say it has not been. they are off their brains. this needs to be a recall. *tr
I have a 2004 chevy trailblazer, the rpm gauge stopped working and it has slowly progressed to the oil gauge and now the speedometer reads way off the charts. i see through some internet searching that this is a recurring problem with these vehicles. i have not had this problem repaired as of yet, as i feel with this being such a safety issue and such a repeated problem with the chevy. trailblazer that chevrolet should issue a recall. *tr
Normal operating of 2004 trailblazer, 15,000 orig miles. driving approximately 40 mph, speedometer reading 110 mph, when stopped speedometer reads 60 mph, just stopped working suddenly, no warning leading up to this problem. -this has not been corrected to date. safety and tickets are a major factor not knowing what speed you are driving... *tr
Speedometer is broken ,reads 120 mph when in park or stays on 10mph when driving, sometimes it works then other times wont work took it to chevy dealer and it was working for them two days later it started again. it is currently stuck on 10mph. *tr
I own a 2004 chevy trailblazer that recently has began to give me problems with the instrument panel not reading correctly. my speedometer sits at 0 even when i'm doing 65 mph. my tach reads the same. upon checking this out, i found that this is a ongoing problem with this particular vehicle that gm has no recall as of to date. other have issues with their gas, voltmeters and oip pressure gauges. i find these issues not only annoying but unsafe while going down the freeway not knowing if your speed is correct. the average cost of repairs for this is about $500 to $700. there are many of these cases going on with this particular vehicle. a safety recall would be nice. *tr
I have a 2004 chevy trailblazer and the speedometer is not working properly i have been on the internet and found out this is not the one with this problem. *tr
First the tach quit working and now the speedometer and cruise control are erratic. have spoken with gm customer service and taken it in to the dealership for diagnosis. the are fully aware of the problems but unwilling to stand behind their produce or fix it. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the tachometer and speedometer were behaving erratically on a regular basis. he could not tell if he was driving 2 mph or 200 mph due to the irregularity of the indicators. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the extended warranty did not cover the vehicle, as well as other chevrolet models that were included in a recall for this same failure. the cost of the repair ranged from $600-$800. the vin was unknown. the current mileage was 65,000 and failure mileage was approximately 64,000.
I have a 2004 chevy trailblazer with 45,000 miles on it. i was driving along the other day and noticed my rpm gauge bouncing around. five minutes later i looked down and was going 120 mph in a school zone. i just happened to be sitting still. once i began moving the speedometer was bouncing like crazy. i have no idea what will be next , maybe filling full of gas and still be on empty? *tr
Speedometer started failing after 30-45 min of driving then got more frequent. i took it into local dealership where i purchased vehicle in las vegas and they told me it could be anywhere from $400-$600 to repair it. i have since learned in the last year that this is a huge gm issue and i am glad i did not have it repaired as of yet. *tr
The speedometer in my 04 trailblazer started acting crazy. one minute it was reading fine, then said i was going 100 mph. i have talked with the dealership, but all they have to say is that they are aware of the problem, but no recalls yet. i have tried contacting gm on this problem but seem to get no where. the service guy at the dealership said they would fix it, but i would have to pay the hefty 500-600 bill. with all the complaints that are out there, i feel that gm should do something about this. why are they being lazy? someone could really get hurt, or even get ticketed for not knowing how fast they are going. i have been driving my truck like this since march 08. *tr
The instrument cluster in my 2004 chevy trailblazer functions erratically if at all. this behavior began a few weeks ago when the tach went crazy and eventually just quit, the needle now just sits at the bottom of the instrument and wiggles occasionally. the speedometer is erratic in that at times it will just quit and read o -10 mph when i know i am going a lot faster than that (freeway speeds). the cruise control is so unpredictable i don't dare use it anymore. it speeds up for no apparent reason and i am afraid i won't be able to turn it off. what can be done about these issues. all in all otherwise we like the vehicle but the problems with the instrument panel are making us think about getting rid of it. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving approximately 50 mph on normal road conditions, the oil pressure gauge failed without warning. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection and they reset the electronic oil gauge; however, the failure recurred. in addition, the speedometer displayed inaccurate readings whenever the vehicle was in operation. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was 67,000 and current mileage was 75,000. updated 03/31/09.*jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the instrument cluster failed and none of the gauges functioned. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the problem was common but offered no further assistance. the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 87,000.
Two years ago my wife and i were driving our 2004 chevy trailblazer on the interstate when our speedometer, oil gauge, tachometer, and voltmeter went out. we could not seem to figure out why everyone was passing by us so quickly when we were going the speed limit according to the speedometer. thankfully we had gps and were able to figure out quickly what was happening. this is a very dangerous problem. if we didn't have gps we would have absolutely no way of knowing how fast we were going. soon after this happened, the check engine light came on and we were having all kinds of electrical problems with sensors going bad. i have researched these problems and it seems as though we are not the only ones with this problem. gm has not issued a recall on this model for this problem, yet they did for the suburban line for the same problem. please, if you can, do something about this problem. we have yet to fix these problems hoping for a recall but have had no luck. we are now in the process of fixing these problems so we can pass inspection. thankyou very much. *tr
Speedometer does not return to 0, stops at 20 to 35. at other times it does not lt stops all together. seems to be major problem with this model yet no recall. *tr
Our 2004 chevy trailblazer has had a failure of it's instrument cluster and the fuel gauge, speedometer, voltmeter, oil pressure gauge and tachometer have failed and now that we can not know how fast we are going we have had 3 speeding tickets and the officers have said that's not an excuse but we think it's a good excuse. i have researched this issue and many people (at least a hundred on each site) have had this complaint about the trailblazer and chevy just doesn't seem to care about the problem. nothing happened leading up to this event it just started failing one after the other. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving 45 mph, the speedometer failed. the contact owned a previous 2003 trailblazer that had the same failure. the dealer stated that the electronic unit was faulty and they replaced the entire dashboard at the cost of $1,500 on the 2003 trailblazer. however, the failure recurred. these units can only be purchased from a chevrolet dealer. the vin was unknown. the current and failure mileages were 75,000.
2004 chevrolet trailblazer with 41000 miles, speedometer and tach has stopped working. *tr
2003 trailblazer ltz speedometer indicator stuck in the post 120mph position. research indicates this proceeds the entire cluster going bad, tach, oil, gas etc.. contacted gm who arranged for a dealer to perform a diagnostic. confirmed bad cluster. gm advises this is not their problem so they will not fix it. even though there are numerous reports of bad clusters on other gm models to include the tb. class action lawsuit working in ca. *tr
Speedometer slowly stopped working then all the other gauges failed. the gauges do not work including the speedometer, rpm gauges, gas level, oil level, battery level and also temperature gauge does not work. the failure is always while driving never have the worked since the first incidence.
speedometer on 2004 chevy trailblazer quit working. there are numerous instances of this happening on other chevy vehicles of the same model year. gm needs to resolve this issue. it is a serious safety issue. *tr
2004 trailblazer speedometer failure. the speedometer needle fails to go back to zero while stopped. gm issued a bulletin for 2003-2004 model year cadillac escalade, escalade esv, and escalade ext; chevrolet avalanche, silverado, suburban, and tahoe; and gmc sierra, yukon, and yukon xl vehicles have reported that the instrument panel (ip) cluster gauges stick, flutter, or become inoperative. however, the 2004 trailblazer was not included. *tr
2004 chevy trailblazer all gauges, tachometer, speedometer, battery, fuel, have failed one at a time starting with tachometer not operating at all, to speedometer sporadic for several months, now currently stuck at over 120mph. have contacted dealer about problem and they say it is a very common problem in this model, there has been no recall for this issue and would be approx. $1500 to repair. why is gm not concerned with this issue? this is definitely a safety issue to be driving at unknown speeds with an unknown fuel level, etc.---- absolutely absurd!!! *tr
Speedometer is inaccurate. when standing still, it could read 100mph. when 55mph, it may read 20mph. i've heard many trailblazers have this problem. makes it very difficult to drive the correct speed limit. too in areas where it's dangerous or too slow also causes problems with people trying to pass. help! *tr
The rpm tach does not work on the 2004 trailblazer. this is my wife's car and she takes really good care of it. we do not drive it hard. the driver side plastic bezel around the electronics is broke. i've had to replace the electronic board, apparently it was not detecting correctly and making the vehicle stall. oh and when filling the gas tank make sure you run the pump by hand. if you allow the pump to fill the car you will over fill everytime. causing gas to go on the side of the car. *tr
2004 chev.trailblazer. speedometer stuck-gets incorrect readings. *tr
2004 chevrolet trailblazer instrument panel cluster failure. when taken to the chevrolet dealer to determine cause of the problem with the speedometer and the instrument cluster they are aware that this is a very common problem with trailblazers. no recall yet for trailblazers but there is recall for same problem with many other chevrolet models including silverado, suburban and others. speedometer failed to work. *tr
The speedometer cable started acting erratic and no fail to accurately tell me how fast that i am going. from what i understand gmac has a recall on the same cluster that is used on similar vehicles. i own a 2004 chevy trailblazer with 69,000 miles on it. i use the vehicle to travel back and forth to work totaling 100+ miles per day. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the tachometer no longer functioned. the speedometer would stick at the bottom and function intermittently. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired when the complaint was filed. the contact had not spoken with the manufacturer. the current mileage was approximately 90,000. the failure mileage was approximately 50,000. updated 12/23/10*lj updated 01/03/11*jb
My odometer one day stopped working and then it would start working again. a few days later my speedometer started messing up. every time it would do that i would have to stop the car, turn it off and start it up again. i would have to keep doing this until the speedometer went back to working. this worked for about 6 months and now my speedometer doesn't work along with my odometer and the rest of my gauges. the only gauge that does work is my gas gauge. this is a problem chevy has recalled on other vehicles but not 2004 trailblazers. they recalled 2004 chevy vehicles with the same problem but not trailblazers. this needs to be recalled. *tr
Dashboard speedometer and other meters do not work. every once and awhile the dials will come on, but most of the time they do not work. nothing has been done to correct the problem because service department states its not under warranty and will charge over 400.00 dollars to fix problem. *tr
My 2004 trailblazer's speedometer and tachometer malfunctioned. everyone i spoke to, including gm customer service and the repairman, seemed to know immediately it was a defective cluster. this is covered on other gm vehicles but not the trailblazer. there are many cases online where it is obvious it is a manufacturer defect/known problem. my daughter received a speeding ticket for going 49 in a 40 when the speedometer showed she was within the mph limit. it was shortly after that we realized the problem. my situation occurred about a month or two ago. yesterday i was driving with a friend who had the same vehicle and he mentioned his speedometer was acting up. i told him exactly what happened to me and he is looking into the repair. i feel this is a potential safety hazard and inconvenience and since so many are experiencing the same problem gm should cover the cost of the repair. *tr
I own a '04 trailblazer and a couple of months ago my oil pressure gauge started sticking. then temp. gauge was sticking , battery gauge stuck, and speedometer stopped working. i have owned this vehicle for less than a year and do not have the money to replace the dash cluster. if gm can issue a recall on the other vehicles somebody should force them to issue a recall for the trailblazers also. this is a safety issue that they should be responsible for not us the consumers. *tr
Failure of instrument cluster on 2004 chev trailblazer. the tach went bad at 52,500 miles and my speedometer failed about 4,000 miles after that. it is stuck at 120 miles per hour even when the unit is parked. *tr
I was driving my 2004 chevrolet trailblazer onto the highway on january 4, 2008 and the speedometer went to zero. after we stopped and restarted the vehicle, it jumped up and down and then steadied around 50 mph even though we had to be traveling faster than that to keep up with the traffic on the interstate. now when it idles, the speedometer intermittently catches. bud wolf chevrolet said on monday, january 7th, that they would fix the problem free of charge as the trailblazers were having the same problems as a number of other gm suv's and trucks. (they fixed 5 trailblazers in the past month that had the same problem with the speedometer). however, i learned that they were going out of business and would not fix the problem when i took the vehicle in for repair today. when i called other dealers, and chevrolet's customer service department, i was told that i had to pay for the repair myself. from what i understand, many trailblazer owners are unhappy because they are either having to pay $500 for the repair or drive their vehicle with a faulty speedometer because they cannot afford to pay for the repair. *tr
Speedometer in vehicle has stopped functioning properly. when parked the speedometer is indicating somewhere between 50 and 90 mph when driving the speedometer will travel sporadically up from its start point until it reaches its max location. when slowing or stopping the speedometer will sometimes travel back towards its start point, sometimes it will not. i do consider this to be a severe safety issue that gm should address. research on the internet has revealed 100's of others with this problem in trailblazers, as well as with gmc yukon's, sierra pick ups, chevy tahoe's, avalanche's, and silverado's. there has been an extension of the warranty on several models to repair this defective gauge cluster, but unfortunately the trailblazer has not been included in this extension. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving 40 mph, the contact made a stop and noticed that the speedometer read 100 mph. in addition, the fuel gauge dial failed. she does not know if the gas tank is full or empty. she will take the vehicle to the dealer to be diagnosed. the failure mileage was 60,000 and current mileage was 61,100.
I own a 2004 chevy trailblazer which started giving me problems almost as soon as the warranty was over. most of the gauges (speedometer, tachometer, battery indicator, etc...) in the instrument panel are not functioning or function only sporadically and erratically. also the air bag light stays on continuously. i have been reading online that this is a fairly common problem on this vehicle and that gm even sued (and won) the instrument panel manufacturer. however no recall has been issued on trailblazers, meanwhile other gm vehicles (i.e. chevy silverado) that uses the same instrument panel and thereby has the same problems have been recalled. general motors should not be allowed to exhibit this kind of behavior and a recall should be issued to every vehicle they built which used this faulty and failure prone instrument panel. sincerely, outraged trailblazer owner. *tr
I began having problems with speedometer and tachometer several years ago. the tac and speedometer go haywire and then go dead while driving down the road. i brought it in and was told that it was a faulty gauge cluster that needed to be replaced and that it was a problem already recalled in other gm vehicles. the service tech was able to unhook the battery cable and reset the gauges but they still aren't fixed. i have been reading multitudes of complaints of the same thing. *tr
Service engine soon light would flash on then immediately off, truck would feel like it momentarily lost power while driving. recently the fuses for all the gauges have been blowing out repetitively. the speedometer does it more than the others. have replaced them several times in the past three months. chevy was helpfully "guessing" at first but finally told us there was nothing they could do towards the end of our 3 year warranty. we haven't taken it back to them for the ongoing problems. *tr
2004 chevy trailblazer speedometer jumps, registers incorrectly ie: 30mph when going 65mpg, or doesn't work at all, works intermittently. *tr
In december of 2007 the speedometer in '04 trailblazer with 45,000 miles stopped working. it works on occasion, but is normally stuck. i found this is due to faulty gage clusters and is common on trailblazers. a recall was recently made on full size chevy models with the same issue, so i ask that the recall include the trailblazer model. the speedometer is a vital instrument and is needed for safe driving. i spent $75 for an analysis and was stated the whole gage cluster will need to be replaced for $600 as the stepper motors in these models are faulty. *tr
When exterior temps are approximately 25*f or below, speedometer is completely inop or reads extremely low (20-30mph?) and when at a stop the speedometer will drop well below "0"mph. instead of a smooth, fluid movement, needle is very jerky and lags. as the truck warms up the symptoms will gradually disappear. in warmer outside temps, the speedometer appears to work normally. *tr
