We have classified the 377 complaints from 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
When i first purchased this vehicle i thought i had a great suv. little did i know that within the first month of owning it did i make a huge mistake. i am a single mother of 2 kids. i checked out the crash ratings and they were great!! i liked everything about my tb. looking back, after the 4th problem within that first month. i should have ran away screaming from it, as i do now daily. the lights flicker when you drive at night. the headlights constantly go out. the check gauges light is constantly coming on. the oil pressure gauge drops for no apparent reason. the tach goes crazy. the "bell" for the lights (when you have the keys out and the lights are still on, or when you have the keys in and the drivers door open) works when it wants to. the battery gauge works when it feels like it. the gas gauge hasn't had a problem lately. i am wondering...doesn't all of that constitute as a safety problem?? i have had the lights looked at and am told there isn't anything that can be done..really?? i am going to have to have the gauges looked at now and from what i see it will cost about $600-$800. where other chevy vehicles have had this covered under a recall. there are many other problems i've had, the o2 sensor, temp gauge, other lighting issues that i have taken care of but this is getting to be a bit much. i see many others have had this problem. it can't be from normal wear on the vehicle. please do something about this before someone's family really gets hurt, if they haven't already. *tr
The driver's side window relay switch is bad. i have had several quotes from dealerships and looks like the cost is around $400.00. (for them to replace and reprogram). there is a huge safety issue if you cannot roll down your window on the driver's side and roll down and lock or unlock any of the doors or windows from the driver's side as well. i have read many complaints on various websites from consumers with the same problem. with the majority of these switches going bad, they need to recall this, as it is very costly andnot at all safe. especially if an officer needs to approach you and you have to open your door first. that could lead to an unsafe incident toward yourself as well as any law enforcement agent. if you can please address this issue, it would be greatly appreciated. i have researched any recall on this and have not had any luck. thank you for your time in addressing this issue. *tr
Instrument panel cluster on 2004 chevy trailblazer failing. started with speedometer not registering correctly at around 85,000 miles. then temp gauge pegged out at hot range, which cost me $200.00 at dealer to replace a "sensor" which didn't fix the problem. speedometer getting worse over the course of the next 15,000 miles culminating in complete malfunction of speedometer at 101,000 miles. speedometer now will not go below 40 while stopped, and with any speed quickly registers 100 mph; while traveling at interstate speeds (using my tachometer below 2000 rpms) the speedometer is practically pegged out at max speed (> 125 mph). never really know what speed i'm traveling; i could be speeding or i could be going too slow which is a hazard to other drivers as well as myself. *tr
Oil gauge on instrument panel stopped working in october 2010. in may 2011 now the tachometer and speedometer stopped working. i have read of many complaints on 2003 trailblazer having this problem. i am experiencing the same issue and yet no recall. how is the speedometer malfunctioning not considered a safety recall when this appears to be consistent in chevy trailblazers?
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the gauges on the instrument panel stopped working intermittently. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was sent and email but did not respond. the failure mileage was 86,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the instrument panel failed to function properly. the instrument panel shorted out and various gauges failed to work. while driving, the instrument panel screen went blank numerous times intermittently. the vehicle had to be restarted to reset the computer. the dealer (ocean crest chevrolet buick gmc cadillac, 855 alternate hwy 101, warrenton, or 97146, (503) 836-7913) was notified of the failure. the manufacturer stated that there was not recall campaign and advised that the vehicle be taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing and repair. the contact was provided with a case number. the failure mileage was not available.
The gauge bank on the vehicle is malfunctioning. the gauges point in all different directions and the speedometer quits working halfway through a drive. i spoke to my mechanic. he says he has already repaired a few at about $600 for the repair. i checked online and found several other owners expressing the same problem. i contacted chevy and they say there is not recall notice so they are not going to repair the (common) problem! *tr
Instrument cluster becoming unreliable, specifically the speedo and rpm. if the actual speed is 55 mph i will get one of three readings: the actual speed, a higher speed of any value, a lower or negative speed of any value. has been going on for more than a year. had heard that the 2004 avalanche had a recall on the instrument cluster and wonder if the two vehicles uses the same part. *tr
The instrument cluster on my trailblazer has begun to fail. the tachometer, speedometer and temperature gauge are not always accurate. my vehicle is no longer under warranty and the dealer will charge to repair. after looking online a lot of people have had the same issue. chevrolet has issued a recall for trucks with the same instrument cluster, but my vehicle is not covered for some reason even though it uses the same hardware. *tr
I purchased my 2004 trailblazer of the original owner with 35000 miles on the speedometer. at 75000 miles the door locks started clicking as if locking and unlocking. i took it to a chevy dealer and the mechanic said it was definitely strange and i would need to make an appointment to have them look at it. just him saying definitely strange to my ears said expensive. my sister had the same vehicle different color and hers had the same problem. now how strange is that? i broke the appointment and got used to the clicking. sometimes it would stop for a week or so and click some more. the clicking was loud as if you could imagine the sound when you lock all the doors with one click. click click click click every half minute or so. then the tachometer went nuts. sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't. same with the gas gage, oil pressure, temp gage and battery. once the wipers wouldn't come on while being caught in a rain storm. the started working again about 15 miles later. now the electric door locks are acting up setting off the alarm. i no longer lock the doors due to the alarm going off for no reason. deactivating the alarm can be a chore as pushing the correct button to shut it up only works after pushing it a few times. we have checked for pinched wires and checked the fuses to no avail. without these electrical problems i would be one happy customer! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact was driving approximately 45 mph when all of the instrument panel gauges failed. the vehicle was pulled over and shut off. upon restart, the gauges began to function properly. the contact stated that the failure would occur intermittently. the vehicle was not taken to be examined for the cause of failure nor repaired. the failure and current mileage was 107,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that all of the instrument panel gauges failed. the contact spoke with the manufacturer and was told there were no recalls for the failure and that entire instrument panel would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 104,000.
At first the battery gauge went. 2 weeks later the temperature gauge and rpm gauge quit functioning properly. another 2 weeks later the speedometer got stuck and now it reads improperly. the gas gauge has now gone. that was the last gauge to go. this is on a 2004 chevrolet trail blazer. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact was driving approximately 40 mph when all of the gauges and lights on the instrument panel failed. the contact replaced the instrument panel fuse yet the failure persisted. the vehicle was then taken to a local, independent mechanic where the contact was informed that the entire instrument panel would need replacing. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 55,000.
I too am a reluctant owner of a 2004 chevy trailblazer that constantly gets the irritating view of an instrument panel that has go haywire. sometimes these things work and sometimes they do not. i don't believe i have one working gauge in my trailblazer. it would be really gracious for those that are relying on our hard own dollars to give us a product worth spending on. *tr
My voltmeter on the gauge cluster doesn't work. it appears to work when the car is started and jumps to 12-14 volts but slowly moves down to zero and stays there no matter what i do to try and make it move. if i do not know the voltage i am running i wont be able to quickly resolve any problems should there be any serious problem that would show through my voltmeter. *tr
Speedometer no longer works. lots of electrical issues with this car. *tr
2004 chevy trailblazer lt speedometer flicker. *tr
I bought this car about 4 years ago and it has been nothing but an elecitrical mess. first my head lights would go out once a month, then a couple times a month, then once a week. my brake lights started doing the same. our famliy mechhanic couldn't figure it out, he just kept replacing them and sending the bad bulbs in for warranty. a couple times the pigtails and lamps had to be replaces. also 3 seperate occasions both headlights went out at once while driving. and i had to drive home in the dark with no head lights on. i took it the chevy dealership after the third time abd apparently my fuse box was melted and needed to be replaced. spent over 1000.00 doing that and it worked okay for about a year. then headlights started going out again and brake tlights as well. not once a week, but still about once a month or every other month. recently my drivers window stopped working and i couldn't control the master switch to lock my car or roll up my windows. the cluster panel in the door needed to be replaced. also, had two sensors that needed to be replaced because my 4 wheel drive, parking brake, and crusie control would stop working all at once and the lights would be lit up on the dashboard. i wasnt' able to use any of them until the sensor was replaced. also the power shorted out in my side mirros, so i can't adjust the mirrors with the control or they start tiliting back and forth like crazy on their own. i have to get out of the car and adjust them manually. gm needs to do a recall, this car is not safe and i will not be buying a gm car while i look for a new car soon. *js
Instrument panel gauges malfunction and show improper readings. for instance tachometer shows 5000 rpm at idle. alternator gauge is off the scale. temperature gauge is also showing false reading. oil pressure gauge is also false. incident date is approximate. individual gauges failed over time. *tr
Instrument cluster keeps breaking. *tr
I have a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer with only 45,000 miles and recently have had a problem with the dashboard where none of the gauges work. i was driving down the road and suddenly the speed and all my other gauges stopped working. i had no clue how fast i was going or anything about my truck. i have read where this has happening to several of the 2004's there are hundreds of complaints on the web and this site. this should be a recall by now. *tr
On 8/18/2010 after visiting my grand dad at hospital, pulled out of packing garage and noticed my speedometer started working improperly. i was going maybe 30mph it read 115mph. i currently have 110,000. *tr
2004 chevy trailblazer instrument cluster not working properly, speedometer oil pressure gauge. first oil pressure went to 0 then the speedometer went crazy was doing 50 and it just went to over a 100. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving at approximately 60 mph he noticed the speedometer was displaying a speed of 25 mph. intermittently the speedometer displays different speeds other than the speed the vehicle is actually traveling. the vehicle had not been taken to be examined for the cause of failure and it had not been repaired. he also mentioned that approximately 6 months ago the tachometer experienced the same failure in which it displayed improper readings. the vehicle had not been taken to be examined for this failure and had not been repaired. this failure continues to recur intermittently. the failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 91,000. updated 11/02/10. *lj updated 11/19/10. *lj the consumer also stated the tachometer did not work as well. updated 12/02/10
Instrument cluster, specifically the tachometer has gone out. from my research its just a matter of time before the rest of my gauges go out. dealer had quoted me $600 dollars for replacement of cluster panel. this is a common problem and needs to be addressed. *tr
I have seen across many websites that the instrument panel on the 2004 chevrolet trailblazers malfunction. well, our vehicle is having the same issue. my mechanic says he has seen several similar problems and says it will cost about $600 to repair. he suggested contacting chevy, but i have seen that chevy is not interested in resolving the problem. i figured if they are getting enough complaints to the ntsb, maybe they will recall the equipment and i can get it properly repaired. *tr
2004 chevy trailblazer. instrument cluster (speedometer, fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge, rpm gauge) inop. gauges consistently don't work. speedometer can be off 10 ,20 or 70 mph. tremendously unsafe. from research, gm knows about this widespread problem. almost runover by a truck on the interstate. thought i was going 65 mph on a dark, deserted stretch of highway. was actually going 35 mph. *tr
Instruments in my 2004 chevy trailblazer show wrong levels (ex. traveling at 70 mph and the speedometer showing 55 mph) oil and charging levels are also wrong. i think this problem is in the instrument cluster. thousands of complaints online about this problem. government has recall other chevy truck models with this problem but not the trailblazer. *tr
2004 chevrolet trailblazer without warning lose all gauges and speedometer and tachometer. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the instrument panel became inoperable and he was unable to determine how much gasoline was in the vehicle or how fast and slow it was traveling. the dealer advised the contact to replace the cluster panel at his own expense. the manufacturer was not notified nor was the vehicle repaired. the current mileage was 130,000. the approximate failure mileage was 60,000. the vin was unavailable.
2004 chevrolet trailblazer speed cluster problem. *tr
I have a 2004 chevy trailblazer; while driving on the highway; all gauges, lights, etc. abruptly stopped working and continue to not work. i researched on line and found it could be what is called the "cluster board". i took my vehicle to a local chevy dealer in daytona beach fl. they insisted it was the ignition switch. they replaced that mechanism for just under $300. the following week (this occurred in 2010); the exact same situation recurred; so i brought it back to the dealer and they then agreed it was the cluster board which would now cost me close to $700.00. in order to avoid being ripped off to the tune of almost $1k; i purchased a gps unit so i could at least monitor my speed. the speed/rpms never register correctly; however, so far the other gauges seems to be ok (except for the oil pressure, it goes out of whack frequently so i just bring it in quickly to make sure i have sufficient oil and that it's clear/clean). most recently my headlights just go out without warning; i am able to use the high beams, but of course that puts me in jeopardy of getting a ticket. there are so many complaints on the 2004 chevy trailblazer - i do not understand why there has not been a recall on the cluster board and the electrical issues (lighting). i cannot afford to have all the repairs completed and would like to see chevrolet take on some responsibility for the cost of these flaws in the manufacturing of this vehicle. *kb
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while at a stop light, the contact noticed the speedometer was providing a speed reading of 60 mph. the reading of the other gauges on the instrument panel also fluctuated erratically. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the approximate failure mileage was 60,000. updated 02/14/12*lj updated 02/17/12
Yesterday my speedometer needle started jumping between numbers rather than moving smoothly. today it stopped working completely, it stayed below the 0 and wouldn't register the speed at all. i stopped at a chevy dealership on the way into work and was told the instrument cluster had to be replaced at my cost of about $400. driving away from the dealership the speedometer started moving slowly (i was going around 55 mph but the speedometer showed 15 - 20 mph.) when i got to work i ran an internet search and found that this is a recall for chevy trucks but not for trailblazers. also found numerous complaint sites with consumers reporting the exact same issue (model year and mileage varied.) obviously this is a widespread issue and should be addressed by a recall from gm. this presents a safety hazard as most consumers don't have the money for the repair cost so they aren't fixing the faulty speedometers which could lead to accidents and fatalities. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the entire instrument panel was reading inaccurately. the dealer was not made aware of the failure, but the manufacturer advised the contact to take the vehicle to a dealer for diagnosis. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 39,000 and the current mileage was 47,000. the vin was unavailable.
Speedometer gauge, fuel gauge, temp. guage not working. only the rpm and temp gauge working at this time.
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving approximately 50 mph the oil pressure gauge and the tachometer on the instrument cluster stopped working properly. the vehicle had not been taken to the dealer for the failure. the failures were intermittent at first and recently stopped working. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 81,000 and the current mileage was 83,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving approximately 70 mph the instrument panel stopped functioning. the speedometer did not display the speed that the vehicle was traveling. the fuel gauge also did not display the correct amount of fuel in the vehicle. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be repaired. the dealer stated that the contact had to pay the repair costs. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
The tach and speedometer does not function properly on my 2004 trailblazer. the speedometer occasionally works but 99% of the time tells me i'm going faster or slower than i am. i am currently using my gps, but as we all know with gps, it's not always available on moutains and it's not always 100% accurate so i basically guess how fast i am going when traveling through wv. i contacted gm dealer, no recalls that i am aware of but thousands of online post of this problem. *ln
Instrument cluster panel completely gone crazy. all gauges are out of control. i am not able to tell my speed and some of the lights come in the panel while the truck is off. have to disconnect the battery to make sure the thing will not catch fire.. this issue really needs to be investigated due to a possible fire hazard. *tr
I own a 2004 chevy trailblazer; the tachometer, speedomoter and other gauges started to fluctuate and now the speedometer never works properly, the tachometer comes and goes and now the oil gauge is not showing the proper reading (i had it checked out to make sure i had oil and no other issues). i am told a new cluster board is needed at the cost of $600-$700. chevy is more than aware of this being a "typical/known" issue and i cannot understand why there has not been a recall on this forcing them to replace these cluster boards. i have purchased a gps which has the speedometer option so i know at what speed i am traveling; but if the oil and gas gauges go; i have no choice to fork over $6-700.00. why is chevrolet not being held accountable for faulty equipment they installed in their $37,000 vehicles? who else can i go to in attempts to get someone's attention to get chevrolet to take responsibility? *tr
All gauges on control panel not working, but all service lights come on check engine, abs seat belt, reduce power, battery lights. now suv not cranking, it will spin but not turning over. will crank up after letting it sit for a while. i received a ticket for speeding, already. *tr
Having troubles with my 2004 chevy trailblazer gauge cluster. which worked sporadically then finally has stopped working completely. this seems to be a common unsafe problem in these vehicles. and there is no recall on this particular model. but chevy does back its other models for this same problem. this is a major unsafe vehicle mishap. and there needs to be a recall placed on it!!! *tr
Faulty speedometer and gas gauge on 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact noticed that the instrument panel readings began to fluctuate erratically. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostics or repairs. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 62,000.
The speedometer on my 2004 trailblazer is broken, it does not go below 90mpg, so 90 is my new 0. this just happened and from looking into it is very common. this is very costly to fix and a safety hazard and should be a recall. gm had recalls on it's other suv's for the same issue. *tr
The gauges on my 2004 did not work the tachometer i see there are many complaints for this,. i want to have it fixed before the speedometer stops working too. *tr
I was driving down the highway and looked at my speedometer and it said i was going 80 miles an hour and i noticed all the other cars were passing me! i then noticed my speedometer continuing to rise until it went to 120 mph! i knew i wasn't going that fast. sometimes it works if i shut the truck off and on until it gets to 0 mph but then it only works for a short period of time and goes crazy again. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the instrumental panel gauges, including the speedometer and the odometer, failed. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnosis of the failure. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 110,000 and the current was unknown.
