Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Car has service park brake alert light on and will not move at all. car will shift into neutral and will not go back to park until you mess around with it for a few seconds. mileage numbers blinking, check engine light on and traction ligjt on. prior to this, car speedometer started blinking continuously while driving on the highway. this is very scary and unsafe as you are unsure to what is going on with the car as no indicators come on while it is doing it.

I have a 14 jeep. i went through both recalls with in 3 months my transmission started shifting into neutral randomly around 40 mph. it through a code p0997 low voltage to solenoid f. in a day check engine light went away in a week it came back. went to dealer paid $1169 to replace valve body. it now shifts smoothly a lot better than it ever have. in my perspective the valve body possibly the reason that the jeeps shifts hard and should be recalled

Currently my vehicle is showing an error code for service shifter and all the shifter lights are illuminated. chrysler jeep is stating that this part is back ordered and they cannot currently replace the part. my vehicle has also had multiple transmission related complaints including multiple hard shift repair requests. first year of the owning the new vehicle the transmission was replaced. a recall was done on 01/31 and on 02/01 the car would not start and all error codes came on. vehicle was in motion when service shifter error code came on going about 40 miles per hour. i have uploaded all the service documents from the dealership.

As i am driving the service shifter flashes on dashboard , call dealer they never heard of it . put car in park turn engine off and waited . turn car on message disappears car runs but it still has a jerk when trying to shift into gear and not picking up speed but rpm show 3 and 4.

We purchased the 2014 jeep cherokee trailhawk in 2015. we have complained numerous times to the local jeep dealership regarding the transmission lunging forward, downshifting hard or basically rough shifting. they told me on all of those occasions after looking at the vehicle that is was normal and probably user error. we took the vehicle in for the numerous recalls regarding the transmission. was told several times it was fixed and there is nothing wrong with the transmission. now that the car is out or warranty, it needs a new transmission. this was told to me after they diagnosed it with an electrical issue in the transmission that could be fixed for $1200. now they say the entire transmission needs to be replaced. i feel let down and disgusted with the dealership and jeep as a whole. i am not sure what i can do at this point as i was listening to the jeep dealership regarding this issue.

When the car is stopped on any kind of incline, the car initially will not accelerate when the accelerator is pushed. increased pressure results in a clunking sound and a jack-rabbit acceleration, very dangerous, especially if i turn right or left from an inclined stop. it was last reprogrammed due to a recall in december, 2020. the car has been to the dealer twice for reprogramming of the cvt. each time the condition improves for 100-200 miles, then returns to its former condition and resulting problems as described above. the average mpg also fluctuates by as much as 10 mpg during the process.

While driving on 2 occasions this week my car stalled out of the blue and i lost power. additionally my car on several occasions has shifted into neutral on it owns while driving. after doing research on the problems i found that some 2014 jeep cherokees were recalled for this exact issue but my car was not in the recall.

Transmission continues to shift into neutral when slow down to a stop.

Jeep cherokee latitude 2.4l has shut down with no warning while driving. it has stopped entering city streets and when braking hard to avoid another car. when the vehicle stops and suddenly its steering wheel gets hard to steer . the dash comes on with an error on screen saying, "car must be in park in order to shift." turning the key does nothing until we try multiple times.

While in motion on highway transmission light came on and vehicle suddenly slowed down perhaps entering safety mode. transmission code indicates coolant temp issue. this year, make and model recalled for transmission issues but our vin not included.

Vehicle does not go while on incline at a stop, revs to 3k rpm then will spin out tires. delayed start at stop lights and speed ups. had recall done software upgrade twice, drives fine for a couple weeks then back to it. had numerous close calls while pulling out into traffic have to let off gas and accel again and pray it goes...

The august 2019 recall notice still has not fixed the issue with the transmission. it still fails to shift into 1st gear at a rolling stop.. at a rolling stop, it shifts into neutral and then hesitates for 1 to 2 seconds before shifting into gear. this hesitation can be dangerous when in traffic.

Recall: "2014-2015 jeep cherokee vehicles equipped with 9-speed automatic transmissions. the transmission sensor clusters may have insufficient crimps in the transmission wire harness, and as a result, the transmission may unexpectedly shift to neutral." i have a 2014 jeep, this is exactly what my car is doing! my vin# is not listed as having a recall on it?? this will just happen at any moment no warning, it will jerk forward sometimes, then others times, it just comes out of gear and the screen saids to put in park then back to the gear. kinda hard to do that in the middle of the interstate or busy highway. (i'm going to get killed!) it seems to loose power/ it sounds/feels like it's stuck in a lower gear than it should be at times.

My daughters jeep cherokee sport 2.4l at 62000 miles has shut down with no warning while driving. it has stopped entering city streets and when braking hard to avoid another car. when the vehicle stops and suddenly its steering wheel gets hard to steer . the dash comes on with an error on screen saying, "car must be in park in order to shift." turning the key does nothing until we try multiple times.

When we started to accelerate the jeep jerked into gear. we started to hear a clanking noise and sounded like a part was rattling. since it did not sound good we pulled over and called a tow truck to tow it to the dealership nearest to us. after the inspection, the dealership told us that the ptu on our 2014 jeep cherokee was busted and the car is no longer able to be driven. prior to this event we took the jeep into another dealership several times telling them that when we accelerate it jerks into gear. they told us that three updates need to be done on the software of the vehicle. we were told that the updates has to do with the communication of the transmission and the parts that are involved when you accelerate the vehicle. after we completed the updates the jeep drove smooth but then started jerking again shortly after. now the cost of replacing the ptu is over $2000. we have read multiple forums and feedback from other 2014 jeep cherokee customers that have had the same problem. i have come to the conclusion that this is a manufacturer defect and this should be covered by chrysler.

While driving home my service shifter message appeared on my message center, all of my shifter light came on in red.

The service shifter light will come on while driving and the lights an the shifter will illuminate . and the first time i was just getting ready to take off whereas the second time this happened i was driving .

After starting vehicle and putting it in gear the service shifter light comes on and all the lights on right side of shifter. these lights are for telling you what gear you are in,prnd. it is on after put into gear at all times. it does nt matter that the car is stationary or moving. i have read many complaints about this issue with jeeps online.

Intermittent jerky transmission shifting, typically at lower speeds (<20 mph). when this happens, often results in transmission error that states vehicle must be stopped or placed in park. until stopped and put in park, no acceleration or ability to shift otherwise. typically happens at intersections or stop/go traffic ... very dangerous. we had the v69 recall performed ... still happened. we took it back in and dealer replaced the tcm ... still happens. need to resolve before allowing my teenage daughter to continue driving vehicle.

Was driving jeep and it stopped complete forward movement, wouldn't rev or continue to accelerate at all. service transmission, abs, and traction lights came on the dash. towed into dealership and read codes for a faulty wheel speed sensor as well. reading tons of posts on here about people getting this recall done. then a new bug gets updated to your software telling you to service shifter. very worried this will happen to me after i get v69 recall done monday. transmission has been jumpy/rough shifting since i bought it at 69,000. have come to accept the fact the 9 speed is a defective transmission. very sad execution on this vehicles power train components.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving, the vehicle shifted hard and the check engine, transmission, and parking brake warning indicators illuminated. the contact stated that the engine was running but the rpms did not increased. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic twice, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was taken to michiana chrysler dodge jeep ram fiat (120 w mckinley ave, mishawaka, in 46545) where a software update was completed. the failure recurred and the vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where the technician cleared the codes. the failure recurred and the vehice was taken to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact took the vehicle to tyler chrysler dodge jeep ram (1102 s 11th st, niles, mi 49120, (833) 294-1607) where it was diagnosed that the valve body wiring harness failed. the vehicle was repaired; however, the contact noticed the vehicle was not running correctly. the vehicle was taken back to the tyler dealer where it was diagnosed, but the failure could not be duplicated. the recall was completed a second time. the transaxle wire harness, the power control module harness, and transmission control module were repaired. the contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 16v529000 (power train). the failure continued. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures and provided case number: 71395088. the failure mileage was approximately 81,778.

Service shifter display on instrument panel. cannot change gears. all over world wide web with others having same issue. jeep dealer replaced. with new wire harness and gear shift bezel. $500 dollars. might have been a serious safety issue. wire harness was not soldiered correctly to shifter bezel.

While driving our 2014 jeep cherokee latitude (3.2l) the service shifter light came on and all red lights appeared on the shifter console. it does not stay on after turning off engine, and has only come on 3 times over 2 months. it does not appear to effect the operating of the car. the dealer checked it out and says we need to have the floor shifter assembly replaced, and at a cost of $738.75. i could not find any recalls on it but i did see a lot of complaints upon searching online. so far it has only come on during highway driving speeds.

Filled up the gas tank and jeep started stalling with in the first mile of driving, was thinking it might be the fuel cap so i tightened it and drove the jeep for a few miles and everything went back to normal. next time, after another fill up a month later, my car stalled when i stopped at a stop sign about a mile after fill up, i was able to pull over, and i checked the gas cap again to be sure it was tight and restart the engine, then while in motion going thru a turn at an intersection about 1/4 of mile down the road, it tried to stall again but luckily didn't completely shut off,and the transmission shifted to neutral, and the display said i needed to place jeep in park then select drive. i was able to coast to the side of the road, and placed the shifter to neutral then back to drive. i proceeded down the road and the vehicle again shifted in to neutral and the display stated the same, to place in park then select drive. this all happened within two miles after filling up. i drove it anothe 60 miles or so after this with no problems. had no real problems before this, other than the shifting lag everyone has complained about. all recalls have been addressed. not sure if this is one problem causing the other or two separate problems.i will test it out on a back road and try to get a picture of the display if it happens again and plan a visit to the dealer for a service check after the holiday weekend.

We have a 2014 jeep cherokee latitude 2.4 we have constant problems with the check engine light and service transmission light and parking brake light come on and the car shifts into neutral with no warning we've taken it into jeep and they told us they did a software update for the transmission we got it back and immediately done it again but in the intersection of a busy road. we've called the dealer but they told us theres nothing they can do its going to get my family seriously hurt and others. it happens with no warning just driving sometimes when accelerating other times while on the freeway at 70 mph i wish we new what to do. it happens 2 to 3 times a day

The "service shifter" warning comes on the screen and all lights next to the shifter light up. this has happened several times, at highway speeds and in town driving. has not happened when the vehicle is stopped. restarting the vehicle appears to reset this condition, but it has come back multiple times.

Drove the vehicle to work, everything was normal. got in the vehicle to go home and the check engine light, service transmission light, and service parking break light came on. was able to shift into reverse, but the shift was extremely hard. sounded like the transmission was about to fall out. had the vehicle towed to dealership.

The "service shifter" alarm comes on while i am driving and all the lights on the gear shift light up res. p rdn, all of it. the car still runs. this has happened 8 times now. i pull over and put the car in park, turn it off and turn it back on and it is all okay. the dealer said it just needs an update. did that the first time it happened but is happening again and again.

When i am driving my car will shift itself into neutral and stall out and then it will shut off when i am traveling 70 mph down the highway. then when i have to turn it back on i have to turn the key then shift my car into neutral and let it coast a little so that way it will turn over. it has done this 6 times now and the last time this happened it broke down and it would not start back up. the last three time this happened i was on the highway, traveling about 70 mph. when it happened about the third time a different light came on saying my throttle peddle was going bad and that the ignition was going bad as well. i took it to go get the codes read but every where i took they were saying they could not help me and that we would have to pay out of pocket for it. meanwhile my fiance and i looked up recalls on the jeep cherokees and there is recalls on the transmissions and other things as well. and all the recalls are for the 6 cylinder jeeps but my jeep is having all the same problems that the 6 cylinder jeeps are having. but no one will help fix it. i have talked to chrysler corporation 2 times an each time we talk to them they say it is not their problem and that it is our problem. my car is unsafe to drive and it do not trust to even have my family in it.

I took my 2014 jeep cherokee in for a recall notice to have shift points changed. upon receiving the vehicle back i noticed a thumping noise whenever the vehicle was not excelerating. i contacted the dealership to inform them the recall didnt work, took the vehicle back to have it looked at. was informed that a new power transfer unit (ptu) needed to be installed and that it had nothing to do with the recall. i was informed the 5 year warranty had expired in april of 2019 even though the vehicle only had 69500 miles on it. after two week of the vehicle being in the shop i contacted them and was told that a new transmission needed to be installed and it wasn't the ptu. i had the repairs made only to find out a "certified" used transmission was installed and has to be returned as there is a hesitation between shift between 2 and 3 gear.

Service shifter flashes across dash. all of the gear lights remain lit. car jerks hard into gear. car will only move in reverse. i have had several transmission related issues repaired by the jeep dealership since i purchased the vehicle in june 2017. 6 months after purchase i started having transmission related issues. on 10/25/19, car would no longer shift into drive. i am livid about the situation. while still paying a car note, i'm told i need to pay 5600 for a new transmission.

While driving the vehicle shifted into neutral and proceeded to slow down. both the engine and transmission message displayed on the dash. turned the car off and tried to drive again but same thing happened. vehicle was towed to the jeep dealer.

I have a 2014 jeep cherokee with 54,105 miles. five times over the last month while driving, all the gear shift lifts turn red and a message comes up that says service shifter. when i park the car, shut it off and restart, the message is gone and the lights are no longer red. i have red many, many messages of people with identical issues. please look into this problem.

A few months after purchasing my new jeep cherokee 2014, it locked up. a huge boom sound was made each time i went to shift gears. the dealer sent a tow truck to transport to the dealer. they then rented me a car. after keeping my vehicle for several weeks the part came in and a repair was made which "fixed" the vehicle for a while. then a few months later it locked up again, another repair and it took weeks and a rental car. then after a third visit a new transmission was installed. the car has been alright until this week, sunday, sept. 29, 2019, when the exact same thing happened again. i have 80,000 miles on it and only 60 on this transmission.i was not given a rental car this time. they once again did the valve body replacement, etc. so now i am wondering how long before the transmission completely goes out? i was charged $444.00 for this repair and feel it should have been covered under the powertrain warranty? please explain why it wasn't. i've enjoyed my vehicle when it has been in good working order, however i feel your company should make good on their warranty and product. you should have copies of all of my work performed as it was all done at your jeep dealership.i have paper copies of my records, however some times when i took it in after purchase. i wasn't always given proof of it being seen. shouldn't this qualify for a lemon?

The vehicle has a consistent issue of shutting off while driving after refueling. issue usually occurs within a mile of the gas station. the car will begin stuttering and lunging and will shut off stopped or even at highway speeds. the panel shows a transmission light and engine light and will not function again until after putting it in park, turning off the accessories and restarting the vehicle. the vehicle runs fine after restarting, and will not have the issue again until refueling. the vehicle shutting off on the highway is a very dangerous and nerve-racking experience.*dt

While traveling at approximately 45mph, my dash gave me a message "service shifter". this had never occurred in over 81k miles. 100 miles after recall v69 was fixed, i got message twice. it does not leave an error code in the computer. if you turn off the vehicle and restart it goes away.

I have taken my jeep in numerous times for the transmission it jumps doesn't go into gear .all i here it's fine! i am the original owner i have taken it in for every recall and it still isn't right i have a file on my jeep

2014 jeep cherokee currently with 61k miles. in the past couple of months, i've noticed all of the shifter lights come on. it's happened multiple times. no real consistency to when/where. luckily, i've been in a position where i could pull over, shut the engine off, and restart it. that's been making the issue go away. this past week-end, it happened while on the expressway, and the "service shifter" warning also came on. i was only 5 minutes from my destination, so i just rode it out and it hasn't come back since. googled the words 'service shifter' and found a lot of similar complaints from a variety of cherokees with a variety of model years. i have an appt coming up, but after reading thru the comments found on google, don't have a lot of faith in the resolution. chrysler jeep needs to come up with something to remedy this issue. reading thru the complaints, you see that nobody has gotten hurt. but it makes you wonder if that's what it's gonna take before something is done!!

Ever since the fca recall v69, we have a problem in which "service shifter" is locked on the main display and red lights stay on to the left of the gear selector. this happens at start up and stays on while driving. this never happened until right after we got the recall v69 corrected. is fca going to submit a recall for this new problem?? this should not be on my dime.

I was driving on the highway when my 2014 jeep cherokee suddenly shifted itself into neutral. the car immediately came to a stop (in traffic), which was very dangerous. as this was happening, a message appeared on the screen which read "shift to p and then desired gear". i had to turn my car off, wait a few seconds, and turn it back on in order to start moving again. after a bit of research, i've learned that this is a fairly common (and extremely dangerous) issue. i'm fearful to use my vehicle.

This is my 2nd complaint since the transmission issue on 8/6/19 (tracking #11242090). i have not received an update regarding that issue. i followed up with the manufacturer who informed me that my vin was not associated with the recall. on 8/7/19, i had the dealer perform a diagnostic test and they found that my suv required a software update on the transmission and powertrain. the same recall affecting the 3.2l but not issued to my vin. on 9/8/19, my suv began surging multiple times when i was in idle at city stoplights and died when in shifted into park three times within an hour. the only indication of an issue on my dashboard was the battery light that came on once the car died. the dash and radio continued to perform fine but the engine shut off with the key still in the ignition. i had the battery tested on 8/06/19 along with the alternator and terminals and they were at 100%. the battery was new when purchased 11/2018. i'd like to resolve this issue in order to feel safe driving this vehicle. i can provide further documentation from the dealer bayside chrysler dodge jeep ram 10535 automall parkway, d'iberville, ms 39540 or it can be requested from them directly.

After recall campaign v69 to update transmission control software issues, vehicle will no longer stay in gear, will stall randomly at speed, and will require vehicle to be restarted in order to put vehicle back into drive again. recall campaign was performed fewer than 1000 miles ago and 2 weeks ago. dealership and jeep have no fix. vehicle is unsafe, unreliable, and was towed in for service on the transmission for the third time in 12 months.

I have a 2014 jeep cherokee latitude and today all of the lights were on on my shifter, it also was propelling it self forward while i had the break down it did three times while in the middle of the highway. yesterday i submitted a different complaint about the power train acting up. today the power train began to act up again while in the highway . it wasn't shifting and felt as if it was driving in neutral but at a very low speed while the rpm moved up and the speed didn't move at all. this is a serious safety concern especially considering that i am not the only one having issues.

When driving the gears do not shift properly and twice already as driving on the city roads the shifter dropped down and wasn't shifting at all or catching speed

Beginning at about 19000 miles the gear shift lights would all come on at random times while driving. stopping the jeep and switching it off would make the lights go off. at about 90000 miles in addition to the lights coming on the shifter, the dash would light up with "service shifter" message. once again stopping and turning off the vehicle and restarting as many as 5 times would make the message and lights go off. the vehicle is serviced regularly at the jeep delearship and was checked several times with no errors showing on computer. after going on line to research this problem, i found numerous websites with people having the same problem and stating that there should be a recall due to the large number of vehicles involved. about 2 months ago the same message and lights came on and it took over 10 minutes of trying to start before i could get the message off and able to put the jeep into gear to continue on my way home (was over 2 hours from home on this trip). the jeep dealership ordered parts that they said should fix it (i was originally told that it was not problem as long as it was going off). i spent over $500.00 getting this fixed. since this is a recurrent problem with so many people, i believe that there should be a recall to fix the problem. this is also a danger to drivers leaving them stranded beside the road because of this defect. from the on line forums this is a problem with all models and year makes of jeeps. my jeep started this problem before the warranty was up (at 19000 miles). however since it was not repaired (and i hope it is) until after the warranty had expired, i had to pay over $500.00 for what i believe should have been a recall. it took over a month for parts to come to dealership for repair.

Service transmission light came on while driving and lost power to the engine. could not accelerate. had to pull the car off the road. will not reset itself. the car is undriveable. 2014 jeep cherokee

Gear becomes stuck in the transmission while driving at low speed causing vehicle to rock as if it was hit from the back, took it in multiple times and was told the transmission software need calibrated but i suspect it is due to unexpected shifting of the transmission to neutral, resulting in a loss of drive which may increase the risk of a crash.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving 35 mph, all the gear shiftier indicators and the service shifter warning message illuminated. the contact was able to park on the side of the road and, after turning the ignition off and on, the vehicle resumed normal operation. the contact stated that the vehicle was serviced in august of 2019 per nhtsa campaign number: 19v447000 (power train). the contact called reedman toll chrysler jeep dodge ram of langhorne (located at 140 old york rd, jenkintown, pa 19046, (215) 690-3770) where it was diagnosed that the shifter needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notififed. the failure mileage was 62,700.

Had the recall for the transmission control module done hoping that would solve the issue, but it didn't. our car when at a stand still or when driving the car will all of a sudden be stuck in a gear and then find itself real hard. recently the car was at a gas station and went to put it into drive and it wouldn't move, then all of sudden boom in gear it drops.

I took my 2014 jeep cherokee into the jeep dealership for service recall v69 software update. after the new transmission software was updated, a new error code became present - service shifter. this code was never present before and i was told by the jeep dealer that i would have to have my entire shifter replaced. in addition, i don't even know if it is safe to drive my vehicle while this code is present.
