We have classified the 977 complaints from 2014 Jeep Cherokee about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Car was randomly shutting off while driving and shifting was very harsh. brought it to dealer who did software update and told me i should have known that this car's oil has to be checked every 1,000 miles. not currently having shutting off problems anymore, but shifting and lurching remains. trying another dealer to see if they can fix it. opened a complaint with chrysler, who gave me a case # and said bring it to a dealer. this is a known issue and should have full transmission replacement!
Just bought with 40k miles one month ago (1/21/2017). 1 week after buying, while driving through the middle a busy city intersection, the engine shuttered and shut itself off. i was right in middle of intersection. the display indicated that i had to put the car in neutral to restart. i did, but it restarted and pressing gas didn't even rev the engine. i waited about 30 seconds and restarted. it worked and i drove away. found out about safety recall that day and had jeep dealer do the recall the next day..then, 2 weeks later, i was in park at the vet with the engine on, the engine stuttered and did the exact same thing. i restarted it and again, pressing the gas...even flooring it...did not even rev the engine at all. i waited about 30 seconds, restarted, and drove off fine. i got an oil change with full synth (0w 20) oil the next day, because of some reports that the oil could be part of the problem. then only a week later (yesterday, 2/18/17), i was on a trip to west virginia with my wife (140 miles from home), and was driving away from a stop light (turning right) and it did the exact same thing. the engine just shuttered and shut itself off while driving. i was lucky to drift close to the side of the road, but i didn't even get fully off the road, restarted, and no amount of pressing the gas would even rev the engine. i turned it off, waited 30 seconds, and restarted. it works, though it doesn't seem smooth any more, but now the check engine light is on. i've had many vehicles, but have never had a problem like this. i will be going back to jeep to have them look at it, but i don't want to keep paying for visits where they can't find anything (like a lot of folks with this particular model on the boards). i love this vehicle, but i'm actually afraid to drive it. ...updated 05/11/17 *bf
After having a software flash to my transmission i noticed the shift lever becoming harder to use. this happens especially backing out of a drive or when spotting a travel trailer. recently i had a loud noise appear and as i drove decided to shift to neutral to see if it was drive train related. to my surprise i was unable to put the vehicle back in drive and i was on a busy street. i had to come to a full stop before the drive selector engaged. the dealer did this upgrade when the car was in for service without any previous notice. if the car is in any motion the shifter will lock out drive or reverse if put into neutral. i was told this was fiats fix for the problems with the grand cherokee and that it cannot be reversed. i find this a big problem. it sounds like a small band aid fix that created another problem. when my car was new it did not act like this. this is no longer the vehicle i purchased and would not recommend it to anyone. i have not heard of any problem with the shifter mechanism on this vehicle. i want my old shifter back again. this problem makes it difficult to put my trailer in a campsite where i have to go back and forth to park it. i called chryslers 800 number with no satisfaction. again if the vehicle is moving a tiny bit and the shifter is put neutral it is locked out until the car is completely at a standstill. if a child reaching to the front seat accidentally moves the shifter on the freeway into neutral you will have to come to a complete stop before you can engage drive again.
I've had the same problem that literally hundreds of other people have had. while driving on the interstate at about 65 mph, my jeep's transmission became unresponsive. it wouldn't change gears while i hit the gas and shifted to neutral and stayed in neutral. the check engine light came on and a message stating "service transmission shift to p then to d" was displayed. i had to coast to a safe location to exit the travel lane and pull-off onto the side of the road. after the vehicle was shut off for about 10 minutes, i started it and the transmission worked. this is the third time this problem has happened to me in the less than 3 years i've owned the jeep. i'm going to sell it because i do not want to risk the chance of having the transmission become unresponsive while i'm on the highway with no shoulder to stop on. it's a blessing nobody has had to stop within the travel lane and caused an accident. i'm very surprised chrysler has not been forced to issue a total recall. this is a serious issue that can lead to someone getting killed.
Vehicle driven on a trip over 500 miles with stops along the way. parked overnight. next day trip resumed. within 10 miles from overnight stop and after refueling, "service transmission" warning appeared. vehicle was moving at approximately 35 mph when the warning appeared. a "feeling" like "slipping a clutch" was experienced on this vehicle although it is equipped with an automatic transmission. outside temperature was approximately 71 degrees. transmission temperature was approximately 195 degrees according to vehicle dash info. display. already committed to enter interstate but pulled over on ramp. turned engine off. this action had "reset" the vehicle to normal operation in the past. this time the "service transmission" warning remained after restarting engine. due to the fear of being struck by traffic accelerating for entry on the interstate, along with congestion, road construction, and panic, vehicle entered interstate at a slow speed. exited at next exit and made it to a safer place. parked and shut off the engine. waited approximately 5 minutes. this time the "service transmission" warning was not displayed. trip resumed for approximately 250 miles on interstate and local roadways without a problem. parked vehicle for a few days without driving it. returned, driving about the same distance without a problem. this is the fourth time the vehicle has had problems with the drive train. all past vehicle recalls have been performed. lack of adequate power when needed from the drive train is a significant danger to all. the "service transmission" warning and lack of power in the drive train had occurred during a separate trip recently. vehicle will be taken to the dealer for an opportunity by fca to repair or replace the vehicle.
I had it in to fix a recall on the transmission, a few months later i started it and put it into reverse, i pressed the accelerator and had zero engine power, i put it back into park and the engine started running extremely ruff shaking the entire car, i turned the car off immediately, waited a few moments and restarted again only to have the same issue plus the transmission went into what i would call self destruct mode, it clunked and growled it was the worst sound ever. i took the jeep to my local jeep dealer and they reflashed the transmission, they told me if it happens again they'll drop in a new transmission, it still doesn't shift right and i'm worried i'll end up needing a new transmission after my power train warranty expires, there was clearly damage done to the transmission when it went into self destruct mode and i think the trans should have been replaced at that time, also the jeep goes into neutral by itself while driving down the road so this is also a safety issue, i don't feel safe driving this car and or having passengers in it.
While driving the transmission will randomly fail and cause the care to rapidly decelerate. it will display countless faults and force you to come to a complete stop, turn off the vehicle and do a complete restart. this has happened multiple times and is now at the dealership for the 3rd time in past 30 days. it has happened on the highway, on regular city streets, and even happened while driving it onto the dealership lot for service. on more than one occasion the vehicle has almost caused and accident. 2/11/17 it failed on the congested city street and narrowly avoided being rear ended. it is unsafe and it likely to get my wife or child seriously injured or even killed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving 70 mph, various warning indicators randomly flashed. the speed decreased and the transmission gears failed to shift from drive to park. the contact coasted the vehicle off the road. the gear was difficult to change from drive to park, so the contact turned off and restarted the vehicle. the crash intermittent being disabled, service brakes, and service transmission warning indicators flashed. the vehicle was driven to the dealer. the dealer was unable to schedule an appointment so the vehicle was left at the dealer. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin and failure mileage were not available.
Hello, i have had multiple issues with my jeep cherokee transmission. in addition to the constant hard shifting, the vehicle has stalled out twice on the freeway. the car refused to shift in to gear and i pulled out to the side of the road to "restart" it. it proceeded to make a horrible whining sound. the engine lights and service transmission came up.
While driving, the jeep wouldn't shift and then shifted into neutral with a warning message "service transmission" on display and "shift to p then to d" appeared. i tried to break and it acted as if it didn't want to stop. this almost caused a crash in traffic. i quickly put on my flashers so people wouldn't hit me. i manually put the jeep in neutral, it was already stalled, turned the engine off and right back on and was able to put it into park and then drive and slowly drive until i could get pulled over. when stopped the engine would rev on its own and then stall. i had to restart it several times and move it from park to drive and was able to drive a short distance to make it to the jeep dealer. a few weeks ago, after experiencing shifting problems, i had the transmission module re-calibrated and it shifted, though awkwardly, until today when the transmission wouldn't shift, revved on its own, lurched, and then became unresponsive while in motion on a city street in traffic. i can't trust this vehicle or drive it.
When driving at 65mph on the highway. the engine shut off and the service transmission light came on. i was able to make it to the shoulder. i shifted into park and turned the jeep totally off. i then tried to re start the jeep and it started and still had the warning service transmission and the interior dash lights were flashing, i tried to shift into reverse, neutral and drive when i did i got a big clunk sound, i was able to get off the highway and into a safe highway rest area when i was driving to that location it seemed the transmission was in a midrange gear. when in the rest area i let the jeep sit for about 30 min and i tried to start again the service trans light was gone and the check engine light was on, i tried to shift and there was no issues so i was able to continue home. i have been searching the 2014 jeep cherokee latitude with the v6 motor and this seems to be an ongoing issue with the engine shutting off. this is a major safety issue, and jeep needs to totally replace the computer and transmission so this doesn't happen or buy back and make sure all of these are off the highways
4 months following the "flashing" of the computer system after a transmission failure while driving at full speed it has happened again, after never really "feeling" like it was shifting properly. with my 2yr old daughter & wife in the car, while accelerating and turning out into oncoming traffic the transmission suddenly disengaged/slammed, which led to no response, stalling the engine and losing power steering. lost control of throttle/acceleration. had to get over immediately to avoid being hit to the side of the road. no warning lights came on like they did the first time, only the battery light likely due to the stall. i put the vehicle in park and turned off the ignition. i then turned it back on to start and it seemed to try to start the vehicle about 5-6 times, and it started. the gears did not seem to be shifting properly, almost stalling again- had to drive it in low 20-30mph to our home. i have it towed to the dealership again, with no update on the status yet. obviously this is a replace or refund situation- there is no guarantee any "flashing" took care of the issue- this is a mechanical, computer or combination fault. this is our family vehicle- had this happened to them or if traffic had been closer when we turned we would be in the hospital, or worse.
It's been over 3 months that the recall is sitting out. dealership states no parts.
When the vehicle is in motion and on an incline (i.e. slowing entering a sloping driveway) the vehicle will pause like it is shifting into neutral, then accelerate quickly. when the vehicle is starting to move from a stop (i.e. red light) it will start slowing, pause (like it is in neutral - or skipping a gear) then surge forward. when driving the vehicle down a grade in town, after applying the brakes to slow, as soon as the brake pedal is released, the vehicle will speed up and the rpm's will jump over 2500. the vehicle will also increase rpm's and accelerate when slowing down from a 35mph zone to a 25mph zone. sometimes whild driving in the city the engine will increase speed when depressing the accelerator pedal, but the transmission will not shift. after the idle or dead transmission moment the vehicle will lurch into gear. all of these issues occur regularly. this vehicle has only 27,000 miles on it. it has been doing it since purchase, and has become worse recently. the vehicle did have all of the other recalls performed except the latest nhtsa recall number 16v529 (i.e. reprogramming the computer) this has made the vehicle drive even worse than before. reflashing the computer was completed in july 2016 it did not help. jeep says that the transmission will "learn" the more that it is driven. my wife is now afraid to drive the vehicle because it is so bad.
I was driving in a subdivision going about 40 i slowed down to about 30 and tried to speed back up, and my car jerked shifting in gear. also many time is slow accelerating it take a minute then the car jerks. *tr
First transmission failure at 59k miles at speed on freeway transmission just replaced again at 73k miles
Something strange started happening, it shifted to neutral while i was trying to stop at a red light, almost went through. brakes locked later had it towed to the dealer they kept a few days, said nothing was wrong. from day one i was told it was a 9 speed shift thing and i felt every single one. they told me that was normal. so me unable to do anything about the situation, but trust the dealer, kept driving this car, that i felt unsafe in every second of every day. each day i prayed that it did not happen again. till this day, it still shifts from each gear with a jerk, i notice the persons heads in my car jerk, every time i go from a stop to try to accelerate. it has had such a strong kick when it shifts gears that i felt like i was getting hit in the rear by another vehicle. this continued for a while and then the car began to start oddly, and as i shifted from park to reverse or park to drive the car literally felt as if the engine, transmission, what have you was going to fall out of the bottom of the car. each time i shifted to park to reverse it would jolt. i then tried to go in reverse and the car was sounding and feeling so scary that i had it towed to the dealer yet again. i at this time, was over my miles and due to me leasing the warranty was done, so the dealer would not look at it free, luckily there was a recall on sensor wire harness, powertrain control module and the transmission control module, so they told me they would fix the recall only. the recall was done january 17, 2017. they kept my car for 6 days. after they fixed the recall, the car worked better, the gear shifts have never changed. today is march 28, 2017 and the car began acting the same way prior to the recalls about 2 weeks ago, again i just pray that it will just start. today it almost did not start and the shift to reverse dreadful.
Car loses power. has happened about 20 times and have had all recalls performed. happens within first few minutes of driving. car shuts down when decelerating for a turn or stop sign. a transmission message appears. car has to sit for a few minutes before it will restart. sometimes will happen again after restarting and taking another turn. also seems to happen more often during high humidity weather. after one or two restarts, the car runs normally. has happened intermittently since i have had the car but happened three times 1/16/2017 and this morning as well. *tr
I have taken my jeep in three times to the dealership due to the transmission recall. on friday, january 13, 2014 traveling down 635e in dallas my jeep during rush hour in the evening while traveling 70 decided to shut down and throw itself into neutral. i was only able to avoid an accident by being in the far right lane and pull off immediately. it caused the jeep to jerk almost to a full stop and could have caused an accident had i been in another lane. the recall is still showing incomplete. i called rockwall dodge jeep who did the last three "repairs" and could not see us for 4 days, meanwhile it is not safe to drive the vehicle. i contacted a second dealership who looked into the mater and found that the recall was incomplete because the other dealership only reset the computer and never ordered the part that needed to be replaced. it is possible that due to the continuous issue this has caused permanent damage to the transmission which i have been informed may be my responsibility to repair due to us driving it with the issues. this has been ongoing for over 6 plus months and is not resolved. this could have been a serious accident and should have been resolved the first visit. *tr
Check engine light came on december 17th and when we were able to take it into the dealership for the third time with transmission light on also, they were supposed to complete the repair and did not. as of january 16th, 2017 we have been notified that when the check engine light came on again and was hooked up to be diagnosed the engine needed to be replaced. we cannot get a straight answer on anything but i know it is related to the transmission. all that jeep has done each time is reset the computer to wipe out the warning lights and sent us on our way. it could have at anytime injured or killed myself, my husband, child and anyone else while we continued to drive the vehicle.
Car shifts into low gear or neutral at 60 mph for no apparent reason. shakes violently and warning lights flash. this has happened three times and no available repair.
On 3 occasions. i've had this vehicle at the dealership, explaining the vehicle hard shifts, lunges, disengages, 'd' warning light blinks, and engine dies. and each time the service writer tells me they can find no problems. according to automotive news report dated feb. 2, 2015, this is not new news. jan. 11, 2017, my wife was driving home from work after dark, in the inside lane, and the engine died, and had to coast to the unsafe inside shoulder against the barrier wall, with no way for me to come to her rescue. called a wrecker, towed the jeep home, only to get home and check it out, and find no evidence of any problems. what's more, the service writer also told me the usual amount of oil this engine uses (about a quart a month) is normal. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving 70 mph, the gear shifter failed to move into neutral and the service transmission warning indicator illuminated. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and powered off the engine. then vehicle was restarted and was able to drive; however, the failure recurred five miles down the road. the contact stated that the coolant increased to 200 degrees. the vehicle was taken to chrysler jeep dodge ram 24 (1020 belmont st, brockton, ma 02301, (781) 961-1550) where it was diagnosed that the transmission, four spark plugs, one coil pack, an auto grill shotter, and jumper harness needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 99,000.
Starting in january 2015 (6 months after purchase) i began having issues with the transmission working properly. when my car was stopped or driving below 5mph and i pressed the gas, the car would often times not automatically accelerate (as if it were in neutral) and after a few seconds, it would violently jerk into gear. every time i took my car in for an oil change i would complain about it and each time the dealership waved me off and said "that's just the way 9 speed engines work", but would offer to reset the computer (which never fixed the problem). when i received the safety recall (16v529000), i was elated that the problem would finally be fixed! when i called to make the appointment and when i brought the car in, i told them it was my understanding that because i was experiencing problems with the wire harness already, it needed to be replaced, not just reprogrammed. they told me "the safety recall had been updated and we are only reprogramming them now, because there is no longer a need to replace them". i took their word for it. driving home that same day, i experienced the same loss of motive power. i then did some research and found out that the safety recall had not been updated and it should have been replaced. i am a realtor and therefore spend a lot of time driving in my car. i bought a brand new car 2 years ago in order to guarantee a safe, reliable ride to myself, my family and especially my clients. this is frustrating beyond words. *tr
Transmission began slipping and riding rough around 50,000 miles. at 55,000 miles car bucked and stalled when entering freeway. service transmission message appeared along with service parking brake. check engine light also went on. gears would not engage. dealership replaced transmission. at 72,000 miles (only 17,000 miles on new transmission), the same issue occurred.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. after the vehicle was shifted into drive, the check engine and service transmission warning indicators illuminated. the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to move. the vehicle was restarted several times, but failed to operate properly. the vehicle was towed to a dealer, but had not been diagnosed or repaired. in addition, when the vehicle was in the drive or reverse positions, it would hesitate and jerk violently. the contact also stated that while stopped, the vehicle inadvertently accelerated. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was approximately 19,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to a dealer for resolution to a recall related to a transaxle wire harness replacement. after the wire harness was replaced, the contact stated that the vehicle stopped accelerating. while driving 30 mph, the vehicle began slowing down and eventually stopped when the brake pedal was depressed. the contact also stated that the vehicle jerked while driving. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified. the failure mileage was 41,000. updated 05/30/17*lj updated 10/6/2017*js
Sometimes car won't start completely out of oil no warning not fit for change bucking from transmission cooling 2 codes set off one said vacuum leak other unknown complete electrical panel went pickles across dash radio phone sinking have to shift down car for to rebut motor sounds like jet engines now tapping all four brakes rotors and calipers needed to be replaced bucks forward no warning lights have to manually go threw computer to find out what is wrong transmission worked on twice told at first nothing wrong also ac failed now other fans not working cooling not holding shaking in dash gone up as high as 300 smell antifreeze all before 2000 miles. *tr
I bought a brand new cherokee trailhawk and within the first 8 months the transmission needed to be totally replaced after having significant issues with switching gear. in december 2016 i was driving to nc, with 55,800 miles on the vehicle, the power steering suddenly shut out and i wasn't able to accelerate, all while going 70mph on a major highway. i had to coast to the side of the road. i had to have it towed to the dealership, where they performed a "software upgrade" and gave it back to me. the next morning, the exact same incident occurred on my way to work, in rush hour, at a very high speed. i again had to coast to the shoulder to pull off. the dealership still hasn't returned it, over a week later, because they don't actually know how to fix it. i will never again buy a jeep, and if i ever see my cherokee again i will not feel safe driving it. *tr
Loss of power due to transmission faults. requires system restart and can take several minutes to get vehicle to move.
Transmission went out. the jeep stopped moving on the freeway, it was very dangerous. the transmission has gone out multiple times on the freeway. the car will either completely die or go into neutral. i've had the s55 recall. it has always had problems; it shifts hard, sometimes doesn't shift properly, sometimes doesn't go into 9th gear, jumps a lot. *tr
Vehicle being considered for lemon policy. vehicle is surging / moving / creeping when stopping at less than 2 mph. wife will no longer drive due to safety concern. has forced us to seek rental vehicle until chrysler approves solution. transmission "klunking" during 2nd to 3rd gear shift change. recent hesitation from engine when starting in 1st gear as normal. this is new transmission and appears to be getting worse since replacement and stall issue reported during highway driving which forced vehicle to side of road with no power. dealer notified. chrysler will not authorize rental vehicle until resolved, very dangerous situation to continue to drive. *tr
After being returned to jeep dealership (more than 6 times) and having a new transmission installed approximately two months ago, today (12/5/16) while driving the transmission went into service mode and stopped operating in the middle of a highway. the vehicle could only coast with the engine running. it had to be towed to the dealership. *tr
The transmission light comes on and the vehicle will stop at any time. i have taken it twice to the dealership to have the computer reset and it is still happening. on the 17th of december i was on the service road of hwy 114 going east in grapevine and the transmission light came on and put itself in neutral while driving in traffic. *tr
Jeep cherokee recall. i live in colombia and i have a jeep cherokee 2014. this truck has left defective in brakes, transmission always. i have not been informed by "demcautos" about the recall. demcautos. demcautos is the concessionaire where buy my vehicle.
The jeep would hesitate when shifting into gear and then "jump" into gears. i was initially told the car is new 20,500 miles and needs to be "broken in". however, when shifting from first to second gear or second to third gear the car shifts really hard, enough that my head hits the back of the seat from whiplash. on my daily drive home in bumper to bumper traffic, when stopped and then letting off the brake and then easing back on the brake, the car will jerk forward. the dealership thought that a software update would fix the problem, it did not. i've taken it in for the same issue 3 times.
Vehicle was moving. service transmission warning lit on instrument panel. vehicle transmission was in "d". very little power to transmission. managed to pull over to side of road. turned off engine. waited about ten minutes. restarted. warning remained. drove to safer area. stopped engine. restarted. service transmission light not displayed. vehicle operated normally.
When driving at highway speeds or low speed on streets vehicle jerks and displays message "shift to paris then desired gear." next message to be displayed is "service transmission." driver has to pull over to shift to park. vehicle transmission does not shift into gear for several minutes while check engine, and several other icons flash on instrument panel. vehicle will then stall. after several minutes after power down vehicle, gear will engine and vehicle will run rough. gears will not shift smoothly. vehicle has 54,000 miles and has had gear box software flashed already once in the last 90 days.
When driving, the vehicle shuts down and message on dash says "car must be in park in order to shift." vehicle will not restart. this problem has happened multiple times while vehicle is in motion. we have had it taken into the dealership with no resolve. after researching, this is a common problem in this year's model that jeep is aware of. however, the common resolution is dealership still claiming an oil change is needed. most recently our jeep was 500 miles under the dealership's recommended oil change. i fear for my family's life if this stall happens when crossing busy highways in town. *tr
> safety recall notice - s55 / nhtsa 16v-529 engine warning light comes on while driving vehicle, sometimes immediately after starting vehicle, and sometimes after braking. dealer unable to determine source of problem, saying they would contact engineering. we thought it might be connected to the recent recall for the 2014 -15 cherokee (and others equipped with the 9-speed transaxle). however, last visit to dealership to correct that problem was unsuccessful. when engine light comes on while driving the vehicle, it does not appear to be connected to any performance or drivability issue. it just tends to make me ignore the warning light and dismiss it. should i worry, or just ignore it? will wait for next dealer response. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving various speeds, the vehicle suddenly decelerated and the "four wheel drive unavailable" message appeared. also, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to reedman toll chrysler (300 baltimore pike, springfield, pa) and the transmission was replaced. later, while driving, the vehicle suddenly shut off. the vehicle was taken to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump was faulty. the fuel pump was replaced, but the failures continued. later, the water pump was replaced and the transmission would not switch into the park position. the cause of the failures was not determined. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 25,000.
Car went into neutral for no reason at all. i had to coast to the side of the road. after unplugging the battery and plugging it back in i had lower gears to make it to h-e-b the ship. they said nothing was wrong with it and reset the codes and sent me on my way after two days. he ships harder and gets much less gas mileage
Transmission has undergone several recalls. with the currently 56,000 miles, the vehicle is stuck in park and will not shift into drive. previous complaints to jeep has been made of hard shifting, delay from stop then accelerating at light, slow launch and hard jerking from gear-to-gear at times. all recalls have been addressed and up to date; however, transmission isn't working properly. literally scared of this vehicle now. service has been conducted accordingly. prior service conducted at jeep service department and service techs have stated that nothing is wrong with the transmisison.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v529000 (power train); however, the part for the recall repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the contact had not experienced a failure. parts distribution disconnect.
For the 3rd time - check engine light, check gas cap light come on, odometer starts flashing and vehicle loses all acceleration after those lights come up. you can floor the gas pedal and the vehicle will barely get to 40 mph. last time it was brought to the dealership they performed flashes (3 weeks ago) and the issue went away. happened again today while pulling out of a busy shopping center and the car lost the ability to accelerate and had to limp it home to be towed to the dealership. the dealership advises they are unaware of any issues like this however there are multiple reports of this make\model\year having this exact same issue. the first time it happened i was doing 80 mph on the interstate and the car immediately dropped to 40 mph nearly causing a collision.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. on numerous occasions, the vehicle drifted backwards while in park. the dealer diagnosed that the software needed to replaced. the manufacturer was made notified of the failure. the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v240000 (power train). the contact stated that the vehicle experienced the same failure listed in the recall. the failure mileage was 35,500. updated 01/05/17*lj updated 01/12/17.*jb
I have been complaining since about 6 months after i purchased the vehicle regarding the rough shifting in low gears. the dealer re-set the adaptive transmission, thinking that changes in traffic patterns lead to a difficulty an "adjusting" to a different driving style. this temporarily corrected the problem, however i continue to have rough shifting, delayed acceleration, and sometimes a harsh jolt when decelerating to a stop. the car's transmission software has been updated multiple times, including the most recent s-55 recall. my car was diagnosed as needing software only, not a new wiring harness. however, two days after the software update, while stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle would not move when i stepped on the gas. i was nearly rear-ended by the school bus behind me on a major highway overpass when my car did not move at the change to a green traffic light. the rpms revved as if the car was in neutral, (but it was in d), and after a 5-10 second delay, the car bucked into third gear going 20 miles per hour. at times when coming to a stop, the deceleration from 3rd to 1st gear feels as though i am being rear-ended. the car sometimes revs when at a stop with my foot on the break. once i received an error message that "the car is traveling at too high of a speed to go into reverse", however i was going from park to reverse and the car was at a complete stop. there is sometimes a delay in acceleration when trying to merge onto the highway. the dealer has been unable to duplicate or diagnose these intermittent issues. *tr
I bought a brand new 2014 jeep cherokee three years ago. the transmission starts jerking, shifting roughly, body shaking at about 20,000 miles, and eventually died when driving on the road in november 2016. my wife and kids were stuck on the road in fear. sent to the dealer shop the next day, was told there is no available slot and i have to drive it back to home. the transmission stopped again on the road. the next week, i sent the car in and dealer performed the recall. however, there is no solving, still jerking. sent the car repair for another three times from december 2016, and then once again in february 2017. they told me someone re-programed the transmission, and it did become a little bit better at the beginning, but eventually jerking and shaking again. last saturday, april 22, 2017, the transmission died again when i was driving my son out, leaving us in front of an intersection and the car behind almost hit us. my son was so scared and begging me to get rid of this car. i decide to ask a lemon law attorney for help.
The vehicle doesn't know what gear it's in, hard and loud jerky shifting, the vehicle occasionally quits when it is idle.
