Within days i noticed issues with the transmission. 1st, 2nd, & 3rd gear can be very jerky.sometimes 1st gear holds 5-8 seconds before shifting. some jerking is violent. also declining steep highway mountain roads is an issue at times. when braking at start of decline rpm's jump by 2000 rpms & car seems to thrust forward. it's like it doesn't know what to do. it is very unsettling
Transmission skips gears and sometimes is extremely slow to start getting the car going (acceleration) (every road including when you are stationary. the body of the car continuously shakes if you are driving on a smooth road (like you can hear the body of the car <shell of the car> (highway, city, straight and turning) when backing up, the car will break immediatley if there is nothing in the way causing a serious safety hazard. (backing up, or driving in the city it will break and i can't override the system making it very easy for someone to rear end you) this vehicle needs to be deemed unsafe to drive and recalled.

While driving on the interstate, the lights for electric stability control, engine and park brake came on. the "service transmission" notice and "service park brake" appeared. then the vehicle would not accelerate and would get to 4 rpm while going at 50 mph. bad jumping, lurching, banging when shifting gears or accelerating from a stop.
I have had numerous incidents where the transmission shifts unreliably and dangerously. of most concerns, i have had it repeatedly both shift to neutral, or shift to a much higher gear when trying to merge with traffic from a stop. it is scary to merge with traffic only to have the car lose power dramatically. sometimes when pressing the gas pedal, the car just coasts for a second or so. apparently one of the fixes was to keep the transmission from shifting to 2nd or first when slowing - you have to stop completely. at 3 mph, there is no acceleration available in 3rd gear. while there have been a couple of software updates, they have actually made these problem worse. i am the only driver, so it is not an issue with adaptive software being confused by multiple drivers. the dealer provides nothing but doubletalk and apparently is not being supported by fca.
2014 jeep cherokee (kl) 8/29/2016 while my wife was driving down a busy hwy the vehicle stalled and lost all power. she had to coast into a local firestation lot and park the vehicle. the screen said put car in park and restart. she did it did nothing. then the screen said service transmission and restart. the 2nd time she did it started and when she put the vehicle into drive it made a loud clunk noise and shook the car. we drove it to the dealer and the code showed the clutches were seized. the dealer said per chrysler to reset the code do updates and test drive and see if the code comes back on. after they drove it 50 miles they said it was good to go and couldnt duplicate it. well today 9/19/2016 it did it again the exact same thing. this time my wife had the kids in the vehicle on a busy hwy. called dealer took it to them and now cars deemed unsafe and thee issued us a rental cover by chrysler. but they are not sure what the problem is and have no time frame or whats wrong with vehicle. something is wrong with this vehicle as this happen twice in less than a month.

Transmission is unpredictable and sometimes losses power. biggest loss of power is when speed has reduced while going up-hill, especially if there is a turn involved. at that point, car can virtual stall.
On wednesday morning, august 24th, 2016, my wife was driving our 2014 jeep cherokee latitude in traffic when for an unknown reason the vehicle stopped dead, no warning, no coasting to a stop, an immediate very abrupt stop. the steering wheel locked up, the front wheel drive system locked up, the vehicle was unresponsive to any driver commands. my wife had to seek assistance in moving the vehicle to a safe location out of the traffic lanes. we seriously believe that this unintended and uncontrollable vehicle action is a safety issue inherent within this model of 2014 jeep cherokee. upon diagnosis by the local fca dealer, we were informed that the vehicles oem battery failed the load test and would be replaced under the jeep factory warranty, battery part number bb94r750-aa. the dealers service representatives seemed to be unconcerned with what in our opinion is a serious design flaw with this vehicle. the vehicle has received 3 previous software updates under factory warranty due to safety recalls.

Vehicle has been serviced multiple times for transmission not shifting, shifting hard enough to lose traction, and shifting into neutral at random. transmission is still not fixed nor functioning properly. this also triggers the stability control to malfunction and lose control on slippery surfaces. now the four wheel drive feature is broken and not functioning as well. dealer has had the vehicle more than 6 times in the past 8 weeks, and several times prior in the two years before. this vehicles transmission is a huge safety and loss of vehicle control issue.
I have a jeep cherokee latitude. it has been recalled 5 times and today shutdown abruptly with a transmission failure.it put me at considerable risk as i was in the middle of fast moving traffic. this is unacceptable. i called the manufacturer and asked that jeep extend my warranty for three years as i have no confidence in the vehicle. so far they have refused. how outrageous. yes, purchase our vehicle that will put you at risk and expect no compensation form jeep. how do we start a class action suit?
Twice, while driving on the highway my vehicle warning lights came on and said transmission needed serviced, service parking brake, shift vehicle into "p" then desired gear, and vehicle lost acceleration almost causing an accident. the most recent was 23 august 2016. i took the vehicle into the dealer and they said it was subject to a recently released recall from chrysler, recall s55 however they have no parts to fix it at this time and there was no eta on when it would be fixed. chrysler offered no remedy or alternate vehicle to drive until this problem could be fixed.

I have had multiple instances of the transmission falling out of gear and losing all power. in order to get any acceleration i have to restart the car multiple times. at this point i will be unable to get above 5-10 mph. when shifting between gears during these instances the car will jerk violently as i shift between p r n & d. on one occasion the car accelerated in reverse when the dash shows that i was in d. in every instance this has occurred while i was driving the vehicle. multiple times both on the freeway and on city streets. when the issue occurs my check engine, service transmission, service parking brake, and traction control lights come on. the issue is not affected by speed, turning, etc. i currently have a replacement transmission in the car and have had it into two different dealerships multiple times for this issue and am still experiencing the problem. i have taken video records of the latest instances and shown the service advisors.
Driving at low speeds on a city street, the car started to shake and buck and stopped without warning. i got a message readout that said transmission failure. then it said to start the car in park? it took several tries, but i had cars in back of me honking and had to move it. finally it started but continues to shake and kept turning off. i managed to get it into a parking lot so it was safe. the dealer says it is some part in the transmission and they are repairing it. i am too scared to drive it again. i commute on a major highway at high speeds. if it happens again, i will probably be killed.
I started my car and shifted it to reverse on a slight decline in my driveway. the car shook and made a strange noise. i pushed the accelerator and car rolled foward not doing anything. i shifted it back to park and the whole car shook again. i did it again from park to reverse to drive and it shook every time. the dash said service transmission and parking brake. i turned the car off and now it only has the service transmission light on. i tried again a day later and it does shift but makes a crunching sound under the clutch. i contacted chrysler and they are calling me back with a case worker. my jeep has 18000 miles on it. i have had no other issues except the delay from 2nd gear and the delay of the car taking off when you accelerate but i figured it was designed that way.
2014 jeep cherokee - transmission is terrible. revs and does not shift; delays in shifting. jerks and pauses. i have had nothing but problems for 2 years; my lease is up in may 2017. i will not get another jeep product.
Car was parked and upon startup produced a loud bang. car reversed after a jerk and a complete loss of power. turned car off and turned it back on. felt like it rode in neutral without the ability to accelerate. almost caused an accident. i had my child in the back seat. every light on the dashboard lit up-failed transmission ect... i have photo documentation.
Stopped at intersection to pull out. pressed on the gas and had acceleration for 1 second and then lost all power. did not have the ability to go forward. luckily i had enough momentum to get off the road. if not i could have been killed.
Been to the shop several times for transmission problems and never been fixed. all lights on gear shift stay all lit up and transmission will go out when driving on busy roads i then get a notification to turn off engine wait and restart. this will sometimes happen several times in one day.
While driving 10-15 mph in my neighborhood my jeep slipped out of gear made a grinding noise and came to an abrupt stop. my engine light came on and a "service transmission" warning popped up. my dashboard instructed me to shift the car in to "p" then into my desired gear. i shifted the car in to park, pressed on the brake and shifted the car into "d" released the brake and proceeded to step on the gas only to have the engine rev like it was still in neutral or park. i shifted the car back into park and shut off my vehicle. i restarted the vehicle and attempted to place the car in "d." the transmission made a grinding noise and did not shift smoothly into gear making a loud clicking sound. this happened twice in a span of 500 ft. a transmission shop couldn't find a issue and recommended i take it to a jeep dealership. it is currently there having the same issues.
Ongoing issues with 9 speed transmission since the vehicle was delivered new. 8 service dates in dealer service shop varying from 1-30 days duration totaling 64 days. transmission has been replaced completely twice, transmission control module replaced twice, multiples software updates under warranty. date of occurrence listed in this form is the last date of service. following are symptoms: transmission does not downshift when slowing around curves and lugs in too high of a gear when accelerating. 'transmission intermittently slips when slowly accelerating on moderate to steep slopes from a stop - then abruptly lunges into gear. 'when at speed, the transmission exhibits long delays when acceleration is attempted. 'when shifting into reverse, transmission intermittently does not initially engage ' then abruptly engages. 'transmission unexpectedly disengages or shifts into neutral.
It feels like it can take a full second from the moment they step on the gas to when the car actually starts moving. and once it does start moving, it's a coin flip if you're going to steadily get up to speed or squeal some tires. this is going to shorten the life of the jeep. it also hangs out in 2nd gear for too long. when the transmission finally shifts into 3rd gear it is aggressive, lurching transition.

Transmission failed 07/21/2016. car refused to start and had both check engine and service transmission messages. dealer replaced transmission with 2016 model that was supposed to solve the issues. at this point the car has 19,866 miles showing. on 5/29/2019, same problem showed up, car refused to start, check engine and service transmission messages. after a week at the dealership i was advised that the best guess? was i needed to replace the control module at a cost o 900.00 since it is out of warranty. i asked if this did not fix it would they buy the module back and was advised no. currently the car is sitting in the driveway, i am afraid to attempt to drive it and fear the transmission will fail while i am on the highway and become involved in an accident as i attempt to get it off the road. the transmission failure keeps the engine from operating.
When "service transmission" indicator goes on, the transmission becomes ineffective and vehicle looses power. the vehicle usually remains in this condition for several hours before indicator warning goes away and transmission becomes operative. dealership installed a software fix but the problem has reoccurred since the fix. concerned about safety if problem occurs at high speeds or in heavy traffic. the several occurances to-date have all occurred at low speeds. the internet is full of complaints regarding this issue
