We have classified the 977 complaints from 2014 Jeep Cherokee about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
On three separate dates over the last year while driving on the highway my cherokee has lost transmission drive power to the wheels although the engine remains running. this has created very dangerous situations involving trucks and other traffic behind me when i have lost power and need to make my way to the breakdown lane. the first two occurrences happened about a year ago and jeep replaced the transmission control module after much wrangling with them. the third incident happened yesterday and i am trying to get jeep to promptly address this issue but jeep service is poor. this is a recurring problem with this transmission that produces an extremely dangerous situation for the driver and those around them.
The transmission repeatedly and unexpectedly goes into what feels like neutral, then slams back into whatever gear it feels like. sometimes a higher gear, sometimes a lower gear. as we live in upstate ny travel on snow or ice covered roads can be frequent. when it has decided to suddenly downshift itself we have been sent sliding twice into the oncoming lane with no warning, thankfully no traffic was coming towards us at the time. this problem started soon after the purchase. the dealer has since done 3 "transmission ecm upgrades" but no change. it is now scheduled for the 4th time. i have lost faith in the vehicle as when i go online i find many others with the problem. obviosly we owners need your help before we get killed in these vehicles.
I was stopped at a red light near a shopping center and i went to turn right and my jeep would not go so i pressed a little bit further on the gas pedal and it took off almost like a lunge with jerky movement. this same thing happened when i was stopped at a red light from the shopping center entering a busy city 4 lane street going straight through the intersection and when the light turned green my jeep wouldn't go at first then i pressed a bit further on the gas pedal and it lunged forward. good thing there was not a car in front of me! this has happened plenty of times and we have only had this vehicle for about 2.5 months. it is now getting scary for me to drive knowing that if it lunges when it shouldn't i could be in an accident. so this is why i am filing a complaint.
Transmission shifting issues at low speed. hard shifting from reverse to drive. hard shifting from park to any other gear. recent "clunking" in transmission when shifting with several ip lights on. this will happen from time to time. dealer supports sw re-flash, but at this time no effect.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving 50 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but failed to respond. the service transmission warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed and the valve body and parking brake needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred two additional times. on another occasion, the headlights became inoperable and the "head lamp out" warning message illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the body control module and head lamps needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. while driving 15 mph, the automatic power locks failed to operate without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for repair; however, the specifics of the repair were unknown. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 26,000. ..updated 10/13/16 *bf *js *tr
I took my jeep in to autonation jeep in littleton colorado where i bought it; after about a year of fighting with the service manager "justine", and service advisor keith!! 5 safety recalls, and now in january of 2016 i thought finally they completed it!! also replaced the pcv unit in the transfer case! leaking; so now i tried using the snow mode after i had the jeep back and it does not engage! i can feel that it doesn't! i got stuck in the snow on the freeway, and was in the middle of the street i had to dig out, and sliding around! i have called the service advisor keith, service manager dave and the general manager steve! and they are ignoring me and not calling me back! i know how my jeep operates in the snow mode and it is a awd it made it in the snow good before they replaced the pcv unit. they apparently don't care about the safety of customers or other people on the highways, because someone could of plowed into me, because the part they replaced is evidently defective. and i also called chryslers corporate hotline and nothing has been resolved! this is a dangerous jeep and should be repaired,
Transmission shifts poorly. when starting may not start moving when gas pedal pushed. makes you very nervous on starting at a stop to merge into traffic as it does not move at first. sometimes after a stop it has not shifted down to first so when you start the transmission shifts hard into first and spins wheels. shifts hard between second and third and second and first.
The car has had rough shifting between gears 1-2 and 2-3 since i picked it up. i had a recall performed that stated "the transmission control module (tcm) and powertrain control module (pcm) software in your vehicle requires an update that will help prevent potential durability issues with the transmission." this recall took away the ability for the vehicle to downshift to 2nd gear on its own to reduce wear on a faulty part in the transmission. now when i need to accelerate after braking into the 2nd gear speed range my car has to take time to decide how it wants to shift and it is entirely unpredictable. sometimes it throws into 1st and spins the tires and other times i get a dead pedal with a delay before i get any acceleration. this puts me in dangerous situations when i'm trying to merge into traffic and jeep has refused to offer a real fix to the issue. the response from corporate to my dealership is that it is "operating as designed." this is a dangerous workaround by a company that refuses to offer a true fix to the problem and i have no where else to turn for help other than the nhtsa.
Transmission failure while driving. car failed to accelerate while on a city street, transmission and parking light came on. when car was able to be re-started, loud "clunk" sound occurred when gears shifted. car had to be towed to dealership. fear for safety of me and my two children to drive car and have transmission fail and car stall while on the road. after researching and reading similar incidents that have occurred to countless others over a two year period, it is appalling that nothing has been done to warn customers of the deadly dangers of this car or that a recall or buyout has not happened. many of us are now stuck with these dangerous vehicles with no recourse as of yet.
On 2 seperate occasions in the past month, vehicle is driving straight on the highway just fine when the vehicle unexpectedly loses power (does not stall, simply will not maintain speed, until vehicle finally coasts to a stop as the momentum fades). transmission light & other lights illuminate, finally the service engine light remains lit. after a prolonged resting of the vehicle (typically 15 minutes or more) the vehicle then becomes able to move again, but must accelerate very slowly at first. eventually vehicle can resume normal speed. very dangerous as vehicle loses ability to move during crowded rush hour traffic!
Vehicle seems to have transmission problems. it has been at the dealership several times now due to shifting problems and loosing power while on the freeway. the rpm's seem to go very high and then drop to 0 with no warning. vehicle stalls out and thus far fca has had no resolution. this is a serious safety issue as it can occur while your accelerating to enter the freeway or while passing another vehicle. also a danger of loosing power at an inconvenient moment and potentially causing a crash from the rear. problem has been ongoing since december of 2015 with no solution as of the end of january 2016.
At 15,000 miles my jeep started to shift hard, and get stuck in low gears when trying to accelerate. the check engine light came on. i took it in for repairs, after a week in the shop, i tried to drive it home, didn't even get it home before check engine light was back on and it was back in the shop now needing a new transmission.
While driving on a busy highway at around 40 mph, my 2014 jeep cherokee suddenly stopped accelerating. a message displayed on the dashboard saying "transmission needs service" with the check engine light, parking brake light and the traction control light all coming on at the same time. we were able to coast off the highway and into a gas station parking lot. i am very surprised we did not get hit from behind! we have had prior issues with the transmission such as hard shifting and sudden acceleration with increasingly high rpms while the car was coming to a stop. we took the car in to have the transmission serviced but the dealership service department could not recreated the issue and said there were no problems, the best they could do was to reprogram the transmission. needless to say the reprogram did not fix the problem. after looking further into this issue, i have found several complaints from other owners with the same exact issue.
Drive about 37689 miles. inserted key to run, nothing happened, turned it off, turned it back to run, it power up but engine light pop out, transmission failure, tcm internal failure code p1634. turned it off, waited for half hour, turned it on, power run normal with a lot of noise, engine light still on. shift it to drive and it goes backward, then shift it to park, cranking noise under the car. messaged transmission service, park brake service and esc disabled/off. turned it off again. waited for few minutes turned it on, engine light still on, shift it drive, push the pedal (gas) doesn't go, about 3 seconds later it drive normally. every time shift to drive have to wait few sec to go.
Major issues with the 9 speed transmission. vehicle jumps, bangs and lurches forward when coming to a stop. it also lunges forward when lightly tapping the gas. also experiencing issues with the lower gears (1-4). extremely rough shifts between (1-4). i brought it in for service several times and as per the service director, "vehicle shifting as design intent". back in jan 2016, i pull the jeep out of the driveway and try to put it in drive and give it gas, it would not move. seemed like it was in a higher gear (4 or 5) instead of 1st great. i turned the vehicle off, waited a few minutes and then back on. the check engine light was on and i was able to atleast drive it to pick up my kid at the bus stop but it was running extremely rough. i brought it in for service and they said it's not the trans but they did replace a camshaft sensor. still experiencing issues with the shifts after replacing the sensor. just this past week the vehicle stopped driving while my wife and 2 kids were driving on a major highway in nj. the jeep was still running, ac was on, all the lights lit up on the dashboard and the power steering also stopped working. luckily, my wife was able to muscle the car onto the shoulder. we called service dept and they sent a tow truck. the driver goes to put it in reverse and it goes forward, not once but twice! this is an extremely dangerous vehicle! any help is greatly appreciated!
The transmission is very jerky. the rpm's increase when foot is not on gas pedal. feels like the transmission is slipping. the car lurches forward when stopped.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving approximately 35 mph, the contact stopped at a traffic light. when she attempted to make a right turn, the vehicle stopped and a "put gear in park" message appeared. the vehicle was turned off and was able to be restarted after a few minutes. the vehicle jerked, but the contact was able to drive home. the failure recurred the next day without warning. the vehicle failed to restart and was towed to a local dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the contact was informed of nhtsa campaign number: 15v509000 (visibility). the failure mileage was 26,000.
First - vehicle would shift into park and i could not turn it off. when shifting into reverse, the car would not move. i had to have it towed into the dealer. second - while driving on the expressway, the vehicle gave 5-6 beeps and information panel said, "restart vehicle and service transmission." the car stopped moving forward when pressing the gas. shifting into park (to restart the vehicle) the car vibrated and jumped. restarted the vehicle, the transmission light was on, message says service transmission, traction control light on, and the d(rive) light was blinking. third - all of the above again, except everyone on the expressway was moving at 65-70 miles per hour, and my car stopped in the third lane. this seems to happen when the vehicle is moving and it is getting very dangerous for me and other drivers.
My vehicle has had hard shifting ever since i purchased it brand new in 2014. there's a slight delay when accelerating which makes it very dangerous to turn into oncoming traffic. in january of 2016, my vehicle actually stopped on me while making a right hand turn when taking my kids to school. luckily the vehicle stopped in the school zone so the oncoming traffic was approaching at a slow speed. it took me four attempts to get the vehicle started again. the service transmission light came on the dash. it had to be towed to the dealership three times in january because it would not start, or if it did, once i started driving the on dash screen would say "shift to drive" and then the "service transmission" light would come on. the vehicle stopped while in motion so i had to pull over and wait before starting the vehicle up again. i was told by the dealership that my vehicle needed a transmission update and a new battery. it was explained to me that a bad battery will cost this specific vehicle to have transmission issues. but after the update and the new battery, the hard shifting and the delay when accelerating remained. my vehicle is not safe to drive with my three kids in the car; the hard shifting makes it feel like we will get whiplash and the delayed acceleration makes it feel like the vehicle will can stop at anytime while in motion. i don't think the transmission update that the dealership does is a solution to this ongoing problem because it hasn't corrected the issue on my vehicle.
At four different random occasions vehicle will disengage the transmission while in drive and become uncontrollable only thing responsive are the brakes. the power steering will go out as well and the vehicle transmission light and parking light will appear on the gauge display. after pulling over on the highway and letting the vehicle sit off for 5 minutes, i would then restart the vehicle and still get a indicator stating to put the vehicle in park when it is already in park. afterwards vehicle indicator lights would go away after a few restarts and once put in drive gears would shift roughly. after multiple times of turning the vehicle on and off things will return to normal but as stated before i have no clue what triggers the transmission to disengage. it has happened to me while driving through the city and highway going at different speeds.
Starting around 29000 miles we have been experiencing hard shifting in our vehicle which was purchased brand new. the vehicle symptoms have progressed to the point where it feels like a rear end collision when shifting. there have also instances when we have been accelerating and the engine just revves up and transmission wouldn't engage until finally engaging. this has turned into a major safety issue as it is unknown when this will happen. it is also a safety issue when the transmission jerks so bad which could ultimately cause loss of control. this occurs when the vehicle is moving. attached is images of the amount of force caused by the jerking motion and a video of the phone on the dash and falling of because of one said jerking motion. this has been an ongoing issue since december 2015. the dealership has described this issue as a "operational characteristic". please see video on youtube at https://youtu.be/og2u_xhkrww
We were coming off the highway and the jeep went over something slick and we had a very slight slide which caused an engine light to stay on and the transmission to freeze up. engine stayed running but transmission would not engage into drive. after we shut down the engine and waited a minute we decided to restart and we were able to drive but the engine light stayed on. aaa california gave us a repair shop to go to and they were able to reset the engine light yet they had told us that they have been seeing this occasionally with this transmission. the transmission thinks that all gears are engaged this the explanation that we received. this happen coming off the highway, what if we were in the snow or highway? we are very concerned.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving 60 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the contact also stated that the vehicle decelerated independently. the vehicle was taken to be diagnosed on twelve separate occasions. the contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired once; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 19,000.
Vehicle run rough, jerking, hesitating and accelerating. stalls when stopping causing check engine light, transmission service and other warning light to flash. when restarting it violently shifts and slams into gear, reverse first and then in drive. when in reverse or drive it goes into neutral. requires another restart with same consequences. when attempting to drive there is no acceleration at first then slow acceleration while it is acting like it will stall again feeling real sluggish. all the while lights are flashing on the dash. it has been in for service 8 times the most recent being 7/11/2017. service has performed replacing tcm and updating it 5 times, replacing vapor canister, fuel tank. vehicle has been taken into service department with all the the issues happening and was diagnosed as no issues found. service department has tried to place the blame on me stating that i do not know how to pump gas, as i am overfilling. (this is incorrect) another issue that is happening is that when trying to fuel the vehicle at any gas station, it will only take a little fuel and click off like it is full when in fact it is near empty. gassing the vehicle can take upwards of 15 minutes to get to the 3/4 mark. this vehicle has been a safety hazard to drive since dec 2015 when the stalling out as i am trying to cross traffic, scary situation but luckily i wasn't hit. loses acceleration when driving down the road and on the interstates, which now limits the amount of time and places that i drive this vehicle, as i prefer that myself and my family including grand chilldren live vs. die. so in essence i have a luxury vehicle that i pay $600/month and i can only drive it around like an old beater car. would really like to get to the bottom of this. fiat chrysler have a serious problem with this car and refuse to acknowledge it, closing my case because service finds no issue.
The issue was in fact duplicated by service advisor david o'neil several times when i first had the issue. his way to fix it was the updates. these updates did not work and only made it worse. he will be able to confirm as well as the first three to four service records. please, let it be known that on 7-26-2016 @4:30pm, youngblood jeep, service manager, mr. phillips; chrysler llc, district service service and parts manager, tony aguillo; and district field engineer, tyler yoemans, have denied me to get my 2014 jeep cherokee serviced at youngblood jeep. they also stated verbally that lemon law is not an option because its past 24,000 miles and/or the two year purchase date of the new vehicle. first, it was purchased new (10 miles) from youngblood jeep. second, initiated service records since the vehicle had approx. 6,000 miles on it. third, purchase date was 10/4/2014. two years from that is 10/4/2016. i have the 100,000 power tran warranty and the extended route 66 warranty through blu current. before i utilize the route 66 extended warranty i would like to utilize my 100,000 powertran warranty. i was turned away when dropping me vehicle to get it serviced. the 2014 jeep cherokee latitude that i purchased in 10/2014 is extremely unsafe. i was advised that i should bring the 2014 jeep cherokee latitude to a "transmission specialist" i was also advised by my. phillips that the operating design of the transmission is to completely stop then accelerate after being completely stopped. two things... one, if you come to a stop light and the light turns green, i should stop before i accelerate? two, when i am turning left and crossing oncoming traffic, i should stop even if i have significant room to turn left?
Ever since corwin dodge has put the new transmission in, the problem has worsened. the issue has been duplicated by service manager jd weatherfield, who no longer works for corwin dodge (probably needs to be looked into). the transmission problem has been diagnosed several times and updates were suposedly given??? last week chrysler llc gave me an authorization number for a rental through enterprise. this means chrysler was paying for the rental till my jeep was fixed. wrong! i look at my bank account and there was $150 pulled off of my debit card! i was never notified that my jeep was done. i definitely was not notified that i was paying for the rental. while my care is in the shop, i need something to drive. this is why chrysler llc gave enterprise an authorization #! i request that chrysler take back the jeep and payoff the loan. another option i was given by chrysler was to be given a new jeep latitude with same msrp and transfer my loan to that vehicle. i am not able to trade in cause they offered me $12,000 and i owe $22,000 on it... i really need a supervisor or someone who understands what is going on with my jeep. i need them to understand that it is not "operating as designed" ! when i bought the vehicle with 10 mile on it, up until 6,000 miles, never did it jump like that. then from 6,000 miles till 48,000 miles and over 10 services for the transmission, nothing but issues. even the rental i drive, which is a 2016 jeep cherokee latitude, drives perfect. now that is "operating as designed". not juming around and hesitating before shifting into gear.
Major safety issue. my family and i were several close calls resulting from the faulty transmission. for example, nearly t-boned by oncoming traffic because the transmission did not shift into gear causing a hesitation (pausing the vehicle onto oncoming traffic). several other times while approaching a red light, the jeep would jump (yes, literally jump) forward nearly hitting car in front of us. same thing in a drive thru bank or restaurant. transmission issue began at 6,000 miles and was purchased on 10/4/2014 (within the 2 yr period and before 24,000 miles). i am clueless on what to do? i want to thank you again for your help and pointing me in the right direction if possible... for the record! the jeep is not, i repeat not running correctly. in the last month, we were almost in three accidents. is that what it is going to take, us to get injured or worse? two weeks ago we are approaching a red light and while approaching the car in front of me (about 3 mph) the light turned green. and the car jumped into gear almost hitting the car in front of me. if the car in front of me would not have sped up, we would have hit them. please keep in mind, my foot was on the break while it was jumping fwd. i am no longer driving this jeep till it gets fixed. i want you to know it is unsafe. period. i am not going to put me. my fiance, and/or our kids any longer. ever since corwin dodge has put the new transmission in, the problem has worsened. the issue has been duplicated by service manager jd weatherfield the transmission problem has been diagnosed several times and updates were supposedly given??? please see attached the last 11 issues with transmission. respectfully request a chrysler buyback option. lemon law. thank you
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 16v529000 (power train), 15v041000 (air bags), and 15v509000 (visibility). the dealer was contacted to schedule the repairs and indicated that the parts were not available. the contact was advised to schedule an appointment on october 3, 2016. the dealer was contacted months later and was unable to determine when the parts would be supplied from the manufacturer. the contact had not experienced a failure. vin tool confirms parts not available. parts distribution disconnect.
Previous owner of '99 jeep grand cherokee for 13 years. traded it on the 2014 jeep cherokee sport 3 months ago. during first month while driving up a mountain, vehicle started losing power and all of the warning lights and chimes came on at the same time along with wipers. wipers were in the off position, so could not turn wipers off. had to drive this way until i could reach auto parts store to get the fault codes read. nothing showed up. started back up, warning lights gone. also, constant rough shifting in 1st, 2nd to 3rd gears. often feels like car is in neutral- not in any gear for a few seconds while driving. at one point, transmission was slamming into gear around 27mph. major hesitation when pulling out from stop. concerns me that car is not going to move and that i might get hit by another car. have to be very alert when driving this car and have to be constantly aware of what the transmission is doing. transmission seems to be thinking about shifting and not doing anything for a few seconds while driving. at around 26 mph, if you take your foot off the gas, the vehicle actually speeds up. not safe! called sales manager at dealership and was told that this is the way this computerized transmission is supposed to act and nothing that could be done but i can make an appointment if i wanted. the service tech repeated almost word for word what i was told by sales manager. tech could not find anything wrong during test drive. suggested i allow a sales person to drive it home that evening. sales person must have noticed something since tech called to say they would be changing the shift point parameters and suggested sales person take it home again. slamming into gear around 27mph stopped, but hesitation, speeding up when coasting and rough shifting has continued. not liking this car at all! older is definitely better when it comes to jeeps!
A year ago i purchased a 2014 jeep cherokee. shortly after i had a scare when driving my car and all of the sudden it jerked me forward as it jumped into the next gear. it felt like the vehicle got stuck as the rpm's would rev up but i went no where then all of the sudden the car jumps forward.there is clearly a issue with the transmission almost getting stuck then jerking you into the next gear. i notified the dealership and they stated they were aware of this problem but there is no fix. i also went home and looked up this transmission issue and was floored by the amount of complaints regarding this same thing! this problem has progressively gotten worse and more frequent when driving. i do not feel safe driving this vehicle with my child in the back seat. i do not feel i should be financing a known faulty vehicle. they should offer a complete buy back to allow me to purchase a safe and reliable vehicle to drive. this is truly an accident waiting to happen to someone soon. please help!
The vehicle was in motion. transmission fails when trying to go up hill or during acceleration. when driving on a incline or trying to pass someone on the highway, you may get a transmission needs service error or 4wd system disabled. either of these errors disables the vehicles transmission putting the vehicle in neutral, with no power to advance or get out of traffic. when this happens the transmission makes a horrible noise and does nothing. not safe could cause accident. this has happened before and after a transmission & torque converter replacement.
When coming to a stop, most times the vehicle downshifts roughly. sometimes, this causes the transmission to slam into a lower gear, thrusting the car forward. this also occurs when accelerating and shifting between gears 1,2 and 3. when accelerator is pressed to pass, occasionally a loud noise is heard almost like the car was slammed into gear. when climbing a hill, the vehicle wants to be in gear 3 or 4 which causes you to accelerate too slowly and waste gas. vehicle has been back to dealer for a new upload which did nothing.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 25 mph, the engine stalled without warning. the failure recurred five times. the vehicle did not restart the last occasion. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v529000 (power train) however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the failure mileage was approximately 17,000. parts distribution disconnect.
There have been several times while driving the jeep that the same transmission problem occurred. twice i was approaching a stop sign in a residential area, once i was coasting down a hill on a city street, once i was slowly accelerating in rush hour traffic on a major interstate, and another time i was accelerating from being stopped at a red light on a city street. the service transmission message along with several lights indicated a transmission problem. i have a picture attached. the dealership i took it took pulled a shift differential code off the vehicle. the problem is intermittent and does not happen every time it is driven. however, this is a serious safety concern to me because the vehicle is not driveable until i turn off the engine, open the door and restart the engine several times until only the mil light is on. this is an accident waiting to happen especially with me driving 29 miles each way through 2 tunnels during rush hour. it is unsafe for me to be broken down in rush hour traffic on an interstate. i fear that i will not be in the right lane like i was previously to be able to try to pull off the road. i fear i will be driving 55 miles in a tunnel and cars not stopping behind me. i fear that i will be causing an accident trying to open the door to reset the engine. no one should have to live with this fear that you are not safe with driving to and from work.
The vehicle randomly does not respond to the accelerator. this is not a regular occurance, maybe once or twice a month. we have had several occasions when we have been making turns with plenty of room but the vehicle does not engage. the same issue has happened when trying to accelerate on the freeway and the vehicle does not 'listen' to a pushed gas pedal. we have had it to the dealership 5 times and they say they 'cannot reproduce the issue' and have offered now help. we find a large number of the same complains online about the cherokee's transmission. my wife was almost hit while making a turn the other day and we are going now to trade in the vehicle.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that the gear lever mechanism failed to operate when engaged. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 17,885.
The jeep cherokee transmission started to slip and downshift causing vehicle to slow. vehicle would jerk hard back into correct gear as vehicle was traveling at 60 mph. check engine light came on. drove immediately to dealership with transmission continuing to malfunction. left vehicle with dealership for diagnosis and repairs. this was on 11/16/2015. picked up vehicle on 11/19/2015 and advised update to shaft ware was completed to slove transmission issues. drove three quarters way home and traveling 65 mph on state highway, the transmission started slipping and downshifting causing vehicle to slow and then jerk back into correct gear. check engine light came on as well as every warning and system light on the dash. warning to driver to come to a complete stop and turn engine off came on. stopped vehicle and turned off engine and after a couple of minutes turned engine on and drove back to dealership. vehicle currently at dealership for diagnosis.
Very rough and jerky transmission ,rough engagement, bumpy when coming to a stop, uncontrollable acceleration after you take foot off gas, almost hitting car in front of me i took vehicle in to dealer, they kept it 10 days they said they had replaced the transmission but it is still doing same thing.
Shifting clunks/jerks when going into second gear, intermittently.
While driving home from work the vehicle jerked and the transmission service light came on. once the light came on the vehicle would not drive faster than 10 mph and the rpm were at like 4000. the transmission has been weird since day one. i brought the vehicle in and they reprogrammed the computer. it still acted funny after the reprogramming. there were times i would be traveling on the highway and would lose any sort of accelerating when the gas pedal was pressed. it would then kick in all of a sudden. all the issues regarding the transmission and its shifting hard were told to the service tech and i was told they couldn't find the problem. also the front end steering linkage makes very loud noises when turning the wheel from left or right. this was also explained to the tech who said he couldn't find the issue. yet the truck still makes the noises anytime it does it. this is not something you expect to deal with after purchasing a new vehicle which is not 2 years old. especially it is the reason i bought this so i wouldn't have to worry about spending money on an old car and for dependability.
After dealership replaced transmission at 30,000 miles for improperly shifting we noticed a burning smell and noticed new transmission was slipping and not shifting properly. we called the dealership and was advised that the not get it in to be checked for another week and a half. at 9:10pm i went around the corner about 4 blocks to visit with a friend and left and came back to my home where i noticed smoke coming from underneath the hood. upoing the hood i saw light from a flame and extinguished it using a garden hose. minimal damage but fire non the less. chrysler corporate stated i can not drive it and to let it sit un touched. i have a daughter to get to school and jobs to do that pays my bills. three days pass i call chrysler again and state i am going to fix the vehicle my self and send them a bill. i tighten the transmission lines they did seem loose. no transmission still leaking. 15 days later still no word from crysler. i have a $28,880 paper weight in my front yard costing me $380 a month. i have called crysler every day for a 2 weeks and all they can tell me is " its in our legal department". no call, no loaner, nothing. an expensive paper weight costing money.
Vehicle hesitates choosing a gear when accelerating from a near stop, causing it to act as if it were placed in neutral. when accelerating from a very slow i45 to an exit ramp lane, (changing lanes) vehicle stalled for a second or two, causing on coming traffic to hard brake. this problem is intermittent, and has happened numerous times. this incident is the only near miss. vehicle has a hard time upshifting at highway speeds, will run at high rpm for long periods of time. it also shifts very harsh from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd gear. with this vehicle's tendency to hesitate in traffic situations, this vehicle is not safe to drive.
Driving 65 mph on highway dashboard warning lights started flashing service transmission immediately. transmission disengaged car would not respond when gas pedal was pushed. message to shift car in park appeared. had to coast in morning rush hour traffic to the shoulder. could have been a very dangerous situation. on shoulder put it into park and if it was put into drive it would jolt severely and would not move more than a few inches with accelerator pressed. had the car towed to the dealer on a flatbed. was informed that a new transmission is needed. the jeep cherokee has 31000 miles.
Last thursday the vehicle lost all power after applying brakes going down a hill, when attempting to start it up again, it remained in the run position but was not functional, engine sounded like a car grinding. pressing the starter did nothing, the vehicle would not turn off, but remained in the run position but with an abnormal sound and no ability to drive it. i just kept trying to put it in different gears, give it gas and finally the engine engaged and it was driven back up the hill to my home. it was driven to jeep service the next day. they could not reproduce the problem and the "diagnostics" did not reveal a problem. the same thing happened today and it took me about 10 minutes of pushing starter button, trying different gears and giving it gas to get it functional again. this vehicle has been into jeep at least 3 times for transmission problems. one time the vehicle was worse after going in, and 2 of the times it seemed better initially but was worse again within several weeks.
This vehicle had been showing issues for a while now. the issues were brought to the local dealers attention but only would accept to take the car in for the radio recall these vehicles have currently. after taking the car on its first 100+ mile journey, upon getting closer to the exit i was supposed to take, the car would not shift to lower speeds properly and i had to stay on the shoulder to come to a stop, otherwise i would risk flipping the vehicle approaching the curved exit at such a speed. must i say i gave the vehicle plenty of stopping/slowing distance. upon coming to a stop ahead of the exit the car jumped forward clearly a problem with the deceleration of the transmission. i brought this issue up with the dealer the following day and stated i should watch the car further and be more careful. just earlier today, the vehicle decided to jerk forward while decelerating from highway speeds again and the same response was given. later this afternoon, approximately 2:30 pm est the key was put into the ignition and the car jumped forward striking the vehicle upfront but luckily not doing any visible damage. this car is an accident waiting to happen as i live near a children's school and work near a middle school and i worry one morning this car jumps forward and g-d forbid strikes a child or pedestrian and turn into chaos, as well as putting my children in danger. this car clearly has transmission faults and needs to be recalled legally once and for all..
Took car in for recent update to transmission software. car was ok for a little while then went right back to the problems. car shifts into wrong gear when climbing a hill and downshifts to to low of a gear causing the engine in to high rpm. sometimes the transmission does not engage when depressing the accelerator. have to release accelerator then transmission will engage. car has a hard shift point from 2nd to 3rd gear. this has caused me to be more cautious while driving and making sure i have enough time to pull out into traffic incase the transmission doesnt engage.
While driving the car will shift into neutral, shifts extremely hard between 3rd and 4th gears, when coasting down a hill if you apply the brakes the rim rev up to 4,000-5,000 and will not stop unless you press on the gas or shift into neutral.
Ongoing issues regarding vehicle, multiple failures on multiple occasions. serious powertrain issues, vehicle slow to respond driver acceleration input, erratic acceleration and shift performance. airbags, stability control, forward crash mitigation/avoidance, and other safety systems failure on multiple occasions. powertrain replaced, multiple software updates with no resolve, intermittent issue persists. *js
Driving to work on hwy in heavy traffic i accelerated up a small hill car jerked then powered down on hwy at 65 mph i was able to coast over three lanes of traffic and pull off to side of road then noticed service transmission, check parking break, put car in park and then select gear all came on as messages also the traction control light came on. put care in park and restarted engine all lights/messages still on dash and car would not go into gear for driving. tried two more times and finally could drive under 50 mph straight to dealer for service. the check transmission light remained on during my entire drive to the dealership. i had previously experienced acceleration when in traffic coasting and my foot off gas pedal. also hard shifting multiple times like it was skipping gears when accelerating. very scary and unsafe situation to be in.
While in drive engine shuts off unexpectedly as a violent jerk from transmission occurs ( luckily at slower speeds) display says "shift to p to select desired gear" goto park and restart is spinning starter solenoid several retries and its like it never happened, took to dealer and reoccurred enroute dealer asked if "check engine light " came on i said no, he claims thats impossible, then showed him the picture i took of dash, same thing 2 days in a row very dangerous imo
