We have classified the 977 complaints from 2014 Jeep Cherokee about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Car jerks/lurches when shifting gears. when removing foot from gas, car will accelerate on its own to shift to next higher gear instead of downshifting to lower gear. car placed in reverse, but actually in drive when gas pressed. complete loss of transmission on two separate occasions at highway speeds whereby check engine and service transmission warning lights appear and car loses the ability to shift gears and driver cannot accelerate (gas pedal pressed to floor but transmission does not work or recognize gears). multiple safety hazards on a recurring basis - risk my life every day that i continue to have to drive it. *tr
The vehicle fails to accelerate properly from slow speeds. this has been an ongoing problem since a recall ("r01") was performed on the transmission. multiple attempts by dealers to improve this condition have failed. i am told that this is the way fiat/chrysler has decided to make these transmissions work, in order to prevent failure due to a design flaw. the current software no longer allows the transmission to downshift below third gear unless the vehicle is completely stopped. therefore, if driving conditions require you to slow down (to as slow as 1 mph) and then you need to accelerate, the transmission remains in third gear and provides little to no response. if you floor it, the transmission will sometimes, eventually slam into first gear, but only after struggling it's hardest to accelerate in third gear, which involves the torque converter allowing the engine to rev, so that the resulting shift into first gear is extremely rough and often accompanied by wheel spin. the transmission will no longer, ever, under any circumstances, downshift into second gear. the hard jolts and wheel spin of the 3-1 shift are somewhat dangerous, but are still by far preferable to the times when the transmission completely refuses to downshift, and simply leaves you a sitting duck to approaching vehicles. simply pulling into traffic, whether it be entering a roundabout, or changing lanes from a slower lane to a faster one, or even just merging, is always stressful, because we just don't know how, or even if the vehicle will respond to throttle input. there have been times when other vehicles have had to slam on their brakes to avoid hitting us, because we could not accelerate. part of that is due to their expectations. when you pull out, they expect you to accelerate at a commensurate rate, when you don't, they find themselves on your bumper in a hurry. somebody will get hit.
Vehicle hesitates shifting into 1st gear causing the rpm's to rise then slamming into gear causing the vehicle to do a burnout. dangerous when crossing traffic. never know when vehicle will engage and go.
My jeeps transmission is shifting out of gear, accelerating and driving up the rpms going downhill while i am trying to brake, jumping out of gear and speeding up, or revving up at random moments. this is causing very dangerous driving conditions as my vehicle takes off when it should be slowing down or speeds up for no reason and i have to slam the brakes to get the transmission to "reset". when its in these conditions it revs up the motor and often shifts very hard into the next gear. i did record this on video as its happening to demonstrate how difficult it is to drive the vehicle this way. its two weeks before the car dealership can take my car and inspect it, so, i am driving around at risk. *tr
When accelerating from a stop, the transmission either grabs and lurches or it seems to slip while it searches for the right gear. the dealer kept the car for a day and re-installed a software upgrade. this did not help. the problem persisted. when we took the car back to the dealer again, they stated that the car is "operating as designed" and "even installing a new transmission would not help". we contacted chrysler customer center and explained the issue to them and they called the dealer and stated that we would need to "learn to work with the transmission" and that they have to go with what the dealer tells them. the car is continuing to have this problem. *tr
Only had vehicle for 8 months when i noticed it wasn't running correctly. when at a complete stop, my car started to hesitate when i would start to accelerate. when it finally decided to engage, the car would either move in slow jerky spurts or lunge forward as though i had floored it. around this time i had received two notices that the vehicle needed two updates: an air bag issue and transmission updates. i took my vehicle to dealership for an oil change and the updates on 03/28/15. i explained to the gentleman behind the counter about my cars unusual behavior, and he assured me the updates would take care of it. since the updates were installed, i have noticed things have gotten worse. my car is more unpredictable now. there are times when i am going up a hill and start to lose momentum. i dare not travel too far, for fear i won't be able to get up to speed to merge into traffic. during these power losses, i have had the pedal to the floor and saw the odometer go backwards. i did take my vehicle back to the dealership for them to look it over in june. unfortunately, i was told that my car was fine. this is a disaster waiting to happen. i feel that one day i may end up in an accident because of the erratic transmission shifting.
My vehicle has been giving lots of trouble since i purchased it. it decides to shutdown by itself when it wants to. it has put me in several scary situations. uselly i am on the hwy in the left lane and it decides to shut down. giving me only about 45 seconds to get over. the emergency brake warning lights along with traction, battery, transmission, engine the car doesn't know what to do. it has been back to the dealer for 3 computer updates.in addition..... the second to the last time they put in a brake switch. now they have my car. putting in some kind of tcm box. the car also hesitates. blinker goes on by itself decides to accelerate on its own etc. i do not believe my car will be fixed. it has been happening since early december i have a lemon. it is a very dangerous car. i have made a total of 5 payments on this car. *tr
While driving my car through an intersection, while pressing the gas, the car's transmission acted like it was in neutral. this was disturbing because at the time i needed power. the car did this 3 times. i put the car in for service and without an engine light on there was nothing they would do. 6 months later jeep realized that it needed a new transmission. they replaced the transmission and now every time i come to a stop the car jerks. it feels completely unsafe and this car scares me. i have a family of 5 and i am now subjecting all of us to a potential unsafe situation. i informed the service department with no response (to date). i will keep trying, but they say they drove it 22 miles and it was fine. it is not fine. it is scary and negligent. they have admitted that there are many transmission problems and that they're working on them. the car is a year old and has never felt quite right.
Bought in august 2014; recently noticed a "chunky/jumpy" shift from reverse (out of driveway) into drive; and then when decelerating around a curve at 10-15 mph there was some similar jumpy downshifting in my 3.2l v6 24valve vvt 9-speed auto model; taken into dealership for "re-flash" of software. *tr
Problem: driving down i79 clunk sound "d" on shifter starts blinking service transmission message appears service parking brake appears mil check engine light comes on esc indicator light comes on *pulled off to the side of the interstate turned car off, then back on repeated 4 times drove to a safe location called roadside assistance had car towed to dealership this is the second time this car has had a transmission failure on the interstate at 70 mph. i am now scared of this car. this is unacceptable and disappointing for a new $34,000 vehicle with 15,601 miles on it. first time this happened and was serious enough to complain about was dec. 14, 2014. *tr
On february 20, 2015, i received the latest transmission software update to my 2014 jeep cherokee. the update seemed to be an improvement, but ever since about march 5, i have been having acceleration issues. when leaving in the morning for work or leaving work to go home, i have about a 200 yard drive to the main road. when pulling out onto the main road, the vehicle is often not accelerating or shifting at all. in order to get it to accelerate, i need to put the throttle all the way to the floor (seriously) before it will accelerate. this has put me in some very bad circumstances, and it seems to only occur when the vehicle has been sitting for 8 hours or more. i have placed a matching complaint via the jeep website. *tr
Started backing out of parking space; stopped for vehicle passing behind; started to resume backing; numerous warning lights and tones started; such as a message to get service; transmission would not engage and move vehicle; coasted to another parking space; vehicle engine would rev when gas pedal pressed but transmission still would not engage; clunks were heard as shifter was moved to neutral, park, drive and reverse; turned off engine and waited; several minutes later everything was normal when engine was started. had vehicle serviced at jeep dealer. vehicle was reprogrammed by a fca technician on 03/11/15. on 3/24/15, mileage: 13,749 the same vehicle performed similar to first event as stated in the above description. this event occurred as vehicle approached a traffic signal; moving around 20 mph. transmission would not engage. coasted to a safe area. turned off switch to engine; waited, then restarted; system reset. all appeared to be normal except park sense system is inoperable; on/off switch for park sense will not resolve inoperable status. headed to dealer again tomorrow for service. this is a serious safety issue. *tr
If you slow down then try to speed up the vehicle hesitants at some point it bangs into gear then takes off.i almost was in an accident trying to merge into traffic from a ramp onto a major highway when i applied pressure to the gas pedal the vehicle did not speed up it was like it was stuck in a low gear and would not accelerate this caused the person behind me to swerve around me so he could get ahead of the speeding traffic then my vehicle had a loud bang as it finally went into gear and took off like a bullet. scared the hell out of me. so yielding in this vehicle is extremely dangerous. i know this happens so i am very cautous when driving as this could cause a major incident to happen and it is scary. i had several recalls on this vehicle and had them all fixed.took this to be fixed, but they can fix it. they knew exactly what i was telling them as they were getting complaints from other owners. stop and go traffic and slow and go traffic is everyday life this is extremely dangerous to myself and others.
My family and i were at an intersection going south making a right turn onto a big street. as my husband accelerated, the car would not respond, it would not move, it jolted very strong but would not accelerate. there was a message flashing on the console something like shift to p then to d, and the check engine light, the (p)! light and brake light turned on. as we were stuck in the intersection my husband turned the car off and turned it back on but it would not accelerate, he put it in reverse and was able to move the car very slowly out of the intersection. is was a sunday morning, we had to wait over an hour to have jeep roadside send a tow truck. the car was at a dealer for 2 weeks, transmission was replaced. just got it back but it still jerks when shifting gears and slow to respond when you are at a stop and accelerate. i don't feel safe in the car as its unpredictable, you don't know when the transmission will give out. this was the second time this happened to us. the first was about 7 months after we bought the car, and the second time was about 2 and half months after the first time. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact coasted to the shoulder and the service transmission warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 6,700. updated 5/5/15*cn the consumer stated the while driving up hill the vehicle would not accelerate. the speed would drop to 5mph before it would shoot up the hill. the failure began to occur about 2 weeks after the new transmission was installed. the consumer no longer owns the vehicle. updated 11/17/2015 *js
While driving in a suburban environment, i was coasting to yield for merging traffic. after checking for oncoming vehicles, i pushed the gas pedal to merge, but the car would not accelerate causing me to nearly get hit by another driver. this seems to occur only on rolling stops/yields, and appears to be a result of the transmission holding third gear, and not downshifting into first or second gear to provide adequate acceleration. this happens frequently and is more pronounced on hills. in order to regain adequate acceleration, you must mash the throttle which produces a hard jerk and clunk as the transmission engages a lower gear. *tr
My vehicle stopped accelerating forcing me to pull to the side of the road. the service transmission light flashed on and i turned my vehicle off. when i started it back up it allowed me to drive but the "d" symbol flashed and it still stated that the service transmission was in use. when i stopped at red lights the message "shift into park and then into desired gear" appeared. this was the second time this occurred, the first time happening at the end of 2014. i took the vehicle into the dealership i bought it from and they fixed it, i will be doing this again this week. the dealership was al deeby in clarkston, mi. *js
The car completely shuts down with no indication or warning while driving, steering wheel locks. immediately after shutting down the brake (however the gear is in drive) and battery light displays. i take gear out of drive and put it in park, wait a minute or two at times right in the middle of residential street or the end of a turn but it always occur while the car is in motion. i have to crank the ignition several times while tapping down on the gas pedal until the engine starts, hit the brake release, put gear back in drive or at times neutral then back in drive in order to move. this occurrence happened a few times before repairs and about two or three times daily after transmission repairs, and software updates. when pushing down on brakes to make a stop the car will accelerate (as if it's confused whether to stop or go, although i'm pressing the brake to stop) before coming to a complete stop. when backing up or switching gears it's a forceful loud jerk between shifting gears. while driving out of the blue the windshield wipers came on (no rain) and i was not able to disable them . i pulled over on the shoulder and turned the car off waiting a moment before restarting they continued to go back and forth on a dry window they stop on their own about 20 minutes later. speedometer blanking in and out. car burning excessive amounts of gas. prior to engine shut down no indication or warning messages however after repairs of transmission and software updates the engine, throttle, abs lights, and transmission service message appear and disappear simultaneously when the car is running as expected. tire pressure display inconsistent. *tr
No real problems with our jeep until we took it in for an oil change and they provided the "reprogram pcm tcm update campaign." after that update the jeep would clunk, stall, and not accelerate through turns. two weeks ago they "got a new update" that was to fix the previous update. now we are going back again this week. though, when i go to the jeep recall site and enter my vin there is no record of this new update.
February 20, 2015 7:02am rush hour traffic in norfolk, va. coming out of the eastbound downtown tunnel entrance ramp onto 464 (interstate) to chesapeake, va, the vehicle revved high in red area about 3 to 5 seconds and would not accelerate. coasted over to the shoulder, placed vehicle in park but vehicle rolled down the ramp. set emergency break at this time. dealer had it until february 24, 2015 and installed some software updates and stated that this would correct the issue. this was the fist time this occurred. it occurred again on march 6, 2015 rush hour traffic at 5:04pm on ramp entrance to the interstate 464 same issue occurred where the vehicle would not accelerate and was taken to the dealer. i receive it back from the dealer on march 24, 2015. during this time there were more software updates and the star had the transmission replace and was informed that there would be no other problems. may 1, 2015 at 5:09pm rush hour traffic on 264 (interstate) in a construction area with no access to a shoulder to get out of traffic and going up hill, the engine stops accelerating and slows to approximately 15mph in traffic that is moving 65 to 70 mph. taken to dealer where star had the mechanics look over ever piece of the vehicle, download the computer and send the data to star. it was decided to change the drive train control module. it was returned to me on friday, may 8, 2015 and is now downshifting at approximately 2mph hard into first gear, causing a jerk. this is three times in a ten week time period. i currently have a lemon law case with the chrysler group. i have been told that a positive resolution will be determined by friday, may 15, 2015. i no longer feel, comfortable or confident in this vehicles reliability or do i feel at all safe in this vehicle. it has put me in harms way three times in ten weeks.
2014 jeep cherokee latitude 2.4l 4x4 - bought 9/14 - rough shifting between first and second gear, delay or lag time during start and stop that have almost caused an accident due to the transmission delay when merging into traffic or during take off from a turn out. when the lag happens shortly into the shift cycle you will feel and hear a thumping sound in the middle of the vehicle. it seems the transmission isn't sure what gear it's in. my jeep has been in for service 5 times for the same issue since 2/18/15. - during service at the jeep dealership have been told that all jeeps shift funny, or have rough shifting. during test drives with tech, service adviser, and service manager, issues are present, and they say it is shifting normal, all jeeps shift hard. the delay or lag of the shifting is situational and hard to repeat to the dealership during any of the test drives. chrysler has only had the software updates, issue is still not resolved. no eta on issue being resolved. latest service visit 02/09/16 service adviser was on a test drive with me and notice how rough the shifting was, and stated that isn't normal. notes state "still having some shifting issues. between 1 and second. no dtc's are present. no updates are available. i asked when it will be corrected and been told, they are waiting on another software update. my wife is the primary driver of the vehicle, it concerns me that one of these times, it isn't going to shift or delay/lag to long and cause an accident.
I was driving on the freeway when the car started decelerating rapidly, the "park" icon came on and the message center said "unable to shift gears while in park, check transmission" and the engine light came on. i was unable to accelerate. thankfully, i was able to pull over to the shoulder but the car would not shift gears. i turned the car off and immediately turned it back on and the car was still unable to shift gears, i could feel the car trying to shift gears but couldn't. engine light and unable to shift gears/check transmission message still appearing. i turned off the car a second time and waited a minute or two and turned the car back on. at that point, i was able to shift gears and accelerate again, however, the "check engine" light would not go off. *tr
Transmission not down shifting causing the vehicle to be sluggish while trying to merge into traffic creating an unsafe condition as the vehicle will not accelerate. the transmission also has a bucking sensation from time to time when trying to accelerate as the transmission cannot seem to figure out which gear it needs to be in. the vehicle is currently at the dealer for this safety concern along with safety issues with the forward collision system. we were notified by the dealer that some additional software changes were made to the transmission and it is better, but still not fixed and that "it is what it is" until jeep comes up with a solution. we are refusing the vehicle back from the dealer due to the way the transmission is operating and also with the issues that we are experiencing with the forward collision system. there is currently an open case on this vehicle with jeep. note: we have had the jeep at multiple dealers multiple times and continue to be told that "it's just the nature of the transmission". in addition, this has been an ongoing issue since purchased new in february 2014.
Since i bought this jeep new in 2014 its been unable to predictably go from stop to start. this is a major safety concern in stop and go traffic (which is daily where i live). i've had all the transmission flashes and each one seems to work for a week or two before this behavior returns. there's also a grinding/clanking noise when going from reverse to forward - the same noise can sometimes be heard when going over a speed bump.
Just entering the highway doing the speed limit of 70 mph with my newborn child all of a sudden my car suddenly stalled / shook/ and halted while trying to find a safe place to pull over on the higher way. the service transmission light came on. this is a huge safety concern that i had to somehow find a way to pull over on the side of a major highway with an infant in the car while my car was stalling out. *tr
2 times already i have had to take my car into the dealership because it would shut off randomly while driving. this has happened while on the highway and also while on busy streets. so far i have been able to drift to the side of the road, put the car in park and then turn the car off and back on. the car sputters when restarting and on multiple occasions will stall again. both times they tried to blame it on the oil change being overdue. the 2nd time i had to have the car towed to the dealership and they stated there was no oil in the car. how a car loses oil if there isn't a leak, i'm not sure. this is now the third time it is happening and based on the car's computer i still have 30% to go before needing an oil change and the car is shutting off on me again randomly. i was at the dealership for the 2nd time less than 3 months ago. i drive in miami and have been lucky that my son was not in the car with me.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle continued to accelerate after the accelerator pedal was no longer engaged. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. in addition, after shifting into first and second gear, the vehicle jerked forward. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician informed the contact that the vehicle was operating as designed. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 12,000. the vin was not available.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving 30 mph, an abnormal noise emitted and the transmission shifted into neutral independently. the instrument panel illuminated. the contact shut the vehicle off and was able to restart it, but the failure persisted. the vehicle was towed to a dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed; however, the technician cleared the vehicle's computer codes. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 17,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving 65 mph, the engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 4,736....updated 04/15/15 *bf the transmission was replaced after four weeks. however, it is not working at 100%. the consumer was informed there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. updated 04/16/15*jb
Vehicle loses power going up hills and has trouble shifting gears. at times when driving on a level surface at a consistent speed, you will feel and hear a loud bang and think something hit you, but it didn't. this vehicle is unsafe, when merging onto a highway, fingers crossed that it will accelerate when pushing on the gas so you don't get hit. i had it at the dealership three times since february 2015 for this issue and was told that all of the software is up to date, that chrysler is attempting to develop a software update that would resolve this problem but it hasn't been developed yet. was also told that others with this vehicle are having this same problem. i truly believe that this vehicle is unsafe, not being able to accelerate when needed is going to cause a serious accident.
The car stalls when giving it gas leaving me and my family vulnerable in intersections as well as shifting very roughly.
When shifting from park to reverse or drive, the vehicle will occasionally not shift into gear, even though the display and shift control indicates that the car is in reverse or drive. when this happens, when i release the brake and apply the gas, the car does not move. this happens about once every 10-15 times the car is shifted from park. the most serious incident happened when i was parked uphill. i shifted the car into drive, but when i pushed the accelerator pedal the car did not move forward but instead started rolling backward. i had to move the shifter into park, and again into drive before the gear would engage. additionally, there have been times that the car will not accelerate after being stopped at an intersection. when i apply the gas, the car will hesitate for 1-2 seconds before engaging and moving forward. i am concerned that these issues will end up placing myself or my occupants in danger if an emergency situation arises while on the road, or if the transmission fails completely and i roll back into another car. *tr
While driving the car and slowing down, the transmission dropped to a low gear and never recovered. service transmission indicator came on as i limped home. brought the car in and it was upgraded with new firmware. took the car back and after a week had another occurrence. was driving on the highway and again the service transmission light came on. this time the transmission was stuck in a high gear, and then i lost all gears and coasted. i was lucky to reach the highway shoulder, as tractor trailers flew by me. turned the car on/off a couple of times (and went from park to drive) and suddenly the car jerked into gear (jumped forward violently). got going and took it back to the dealer. in my opinion this is a real safety issue. my family is not willing to use the car, and at this point, i would not allow them to use it. i see many similar issues. can't believe such poor quality is acceptable! *tr
Vehicle makes a loud whistling noise when the vehicle starts up, is idle, and when it accelerates vehicle also jerks when it shifts gears.
Transmission (automatic) failed at 3,500 miles. car would no longer go into gear and engage in any gear (drive, reverse, etc).
Vehicle has continued issues with shifting performance, upon slowing down and then accelerating the vehicle hesitates before increasing speeds.
Transmission refuses to downshift on hills, lunges forward at stops, sometimes does not shift in to drive for several seconds, when shifted into reverse will sometimes buck violently. all recalls have been performed but seems worse now. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving at a low speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle jerked before moving forward. in addition, the contact stated that the liftgate was activated and failed to function intermittently. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that a modular needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the modular needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired on multiple occasions, but the failure persisted. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 15v393000 (structure) and 15v509000 (visibility) however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 10,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. loss of automotive power the vehicle stalled faulty transmission control module sensor the contact stated that while driving the vehicle and pressing the accelerator pedal the vehicle would not immediately accelerate before suddenly accelerating very fast. the "check engine" warning light would remain illuminated and the message "service transmission" was present. on occasions the transmission would not shift into reverse and would not properly shift gears while driving and the vehicle had stalled while driving on multiple occasions. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer lee jeep/chrysler(777 center st. auburn maine) who diagnosed that the transmission control module sensor was faulty. the transmission control module sensor had been reprogrammed and replaced on several occasions but the failures continued to occur. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 8,000.

On or around january 29, 2015, when i went to start the vehicle it lunged forward even though the transmission was in park and the parking brake was set. the transmission was reflashed by the jeep dealership on february 3, 2015. on the drive home from the dealership, the check engine light came on and began making a loud whine/chatter/chirping/metal sequel noise when accelerating. the vehicle was towed to another jeep dealership where the transmission was replaced under warranty. starting on or around march 12, 2015, the vehicle began making the whine/chatter/chirping/metal sequel noise again when accelerating. i reported the defect or condition on wisconsin dot form mv2692 and made my vehicle available for repair 4 times (3/16/15, 3/18/15, 3/24/15, & 4/8/15). fiat chrysler automobiles (jeep) and/or dealer is refusing, unwilling, or unable to repair the problem. another problem related to the vehicles transmission occurred on april 30, 2015. i was at an intersection waiting to turn left. when pressed the accelerator to proceed through the intersection once the traffic cleared the vehicle hesitated to move and when the transmission finally connected it lunged causing the wheels spin. since january 5, 2015, my vehicle has been out of service at the jeep dealership for 46 days. the transmission problems along with the other 4 current defects or conditions were reported to chrysler's enhanced customer satisfaction team over a month ago. according to the dealership, chrysler has not replied with a resolution. fiat chrysler automobiles (jeep) and/or dealer is refusing, unwilling, or unable to repair the problem. *tr

This car has been nothing but trouble since 1500 miles off the lot brand new jeep. and then at 2800 and then at 3000 miles they replaced the power control module then two more times for software update. then at 10250 they tell me the transmission has gone and needs to be replaced. as if anything else can go wrong with this car the tires they put on from the dealership firestone my aft right tire split on the sidewall for no reason at all the only damage on the tire was the crack on the tire. so not only is the car defective but the wheels from firestone as well. has anyone else experienced my horrible luck. *tr
While driving the vehicle, the vehicle all of a sudden shut off. the "service transmission" light came on. after sending the truck to the dealership, two days later i experienced the same issue. the truck shut off when i was turning into the intersection while taking my kids to school. same message appeared on the dash. i've read online that many jeep cherokee owners are experiencing the same issue. my vehicle was purchased brand new in 2014, 37,688 miles. the vehicle is still in the shop, but i am honestly afraid to drive it again because it is very dangerous to drive a vehicle and to have it just shut off all of a sudden due to a faulty transmission by the manufacturer.
In january i was traveling in the middle lane of a major highway when i attempted to accelerate in order to pass another car. instead of accelerating, the jeep acted as though it was in neutral. the rpm's went up but the car didn't move, forcing me to coast to the side of the road and shut the vehicle off. then, in april, i was taking a left onto a very busy main road, with just enough time to get out in front of an 18-wheeler. when i put my foot on the gas to accelerate it did the same thing; acted as though it was in neutral and rolled into the middle of the road. the truck got close enough to slam on its brakes and honk, and the car roughly slammed into first gear just in time. when i tried to drive it into a parking lot it did the same thing, and i was forced to coast to the side of the road and call a tow truck. *tr
Car began to loose power and started bucking was traveling at 70 mph...then it started thrashing numerous codes and all the lights on the dash started flashing this was followed by a big downshift and then a bang total loss of power on a major freeway. when the car came to a stop it would not disengage from drive then after turning the car off i was able to put it in park. after restarting it all the strong message lights were on as well as different computer messages like check brake, check engine. if you put it in gear it would make a big cluck but no power would only idle. when driving at highway speed the at car looses power and starts to buck and downshift to a lower gear then transmission disengages. engine stay running but there is no power and nothing happens when you depress gas pedal. this is very dangerous as it happens consistently. also the transmission many time keeps randomly switching between gears. dealer again says its a software issue in the transmission. software recodes have not fixed the problem.
From stop accelerating to merge with highway traffic and pulling out of a street the car won't move. it's like the transmission is slipping. very dangerous, have been almost hit several times. other times the transmission shifts irregularly. have taken it to our local dealership twice and have a third scheduled
