Problems with 2014 Jeep Cherokee ENGINE

On average, the 2014 Jeep Cherokee starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 40 308 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Vehicle occasionally bogs down and sometimes stalls at various speeds and conditions. sometimes this will occur several times in a row and sometimes it will go days, even weeks without reoccurring. the jeep dealer kept car for several days said several test drives found no problem and the diagnostics and onboard computer codes were normal. this is a potentially vary dangerous problem if trying to pull out into traffic on the interstate or trying to pass someone. the problem is reported all throughout the internet but nothing in recalls. all recalls on this vin have been completed.

Car shuts off while driving , engine stalls , car downshifts when excellerating on highway . dealer has replaced engine and transmission, car still shifts rough and has started stalling again

I purchased my car on 10/1/19 with 98,000 miles. a few short days later my car started driving horrible. shaking, bucking, jerking, hesitating to accelerate and shift and my engine light came on while driving, scanned it and was showing p0520 oil pressure sensor. that was replaced. car was still driving the same and 3 days later while driving my engine light came on again, this time code p06dd. brought my car to the mechanic where he had it 3 week. my oil pump was replaced with a new oem pump. the very next day while driving my engine light went on again, throwing the same code p06dd. brought back to the dealer where my car was low 2 quarts of oil. was told to bring it to jeep for recall and diagnosis. jeep has my car for 4 days, completed the recall but was unable to diagnose my car. upon leaving the jeep dealer my engine light came back on and now my car was stuck in safe mode and would not go over 60mph. i brought my car back to the dealer where i purchased it. they had my car for two weeks and replaced my engine. i picked my car up on 12/6/19 from the dealer i purchased from, who just replaced my engine. with a new engine, the car is still not driving right. it is still shaking, bucking, jerking, hesitating to accelerate, hesitating to shift out of all gears. i had my tires balanced 2 times.on 1/13/2020 my car while driving on the highway went into safe mode again. not going over 60mph. this time no engine lights are on. i brought it back to the dealer i purchased from, they hooked up the computer..which showed no codes. it took my car out of safe mode but did not fix any of the problems i'm having. today, 1/21/20 my car went back into safe mode while driving. will not go over 60mph and there are no lights on the dash showing there is a problem. this car is not safe. i am a single mom with 2 kids and i will not jeopardize mine or their lives in this vehicle.

Oil filter housing cracked spilling oil on top of motor very common problem fire hazard part has been redesigned from plastic to metal noticed oil all over engine burning smell when driving and parked

While driving on 2 occasions this week my car stalled out of the blue and i lost power. additionally my car on several occasions has shifted into neutral on it owns while driving. after doing research on the problems i found that some 2014 jeep cherokees were recalled for this exact issue but my car was not in the recall.

My jeep sputters and dies after gas fill up. very dangerous as it happens at random and has scared my family as trucks bare down on us as we are stalled in the road unable to get car to restart. about 1 to 3 miles after fill up the problem disappears until next gas fill. please issue recall before someone gets killed. in motion car is sputtering and unable to gain speed. once at a stop car immediately dies locking all power functions and is difficult to restart. this has happened several times.

Jeep cherokee latitude 2.4l has shut down with no warning while driving. it has stopped entering city streets and when braking hard to avoid another car. when the vehicle stops and suddenly its steering wheel gets hard to steer . the dash comes on with an error on screen saying, "car must be in park in order to shift." turning the key does nothing until we try multiple times.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed a large amount of oil underneath the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who inspected the vehicle and informed the contact that oil leaked onto the exhaust manifold and throughout the engine compartment. the contact was informed that the oil filter housing needed to be replaced. anchorage chrysler dodge jeep ram located at 2601 e 5th ave, anchorage, ak 99501, phone number: 907-276-1331) was contacted in an attempt to purchase parts for the repair. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was informed of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 54,600.

Engine oil cooler leaking. car has 69000 miles and the plastic engine oil cooler mounted on the engine block is leaking. seals are bad because of the design of the part. multiple 2014 cherokees have this issue. known issue for local dealer. significant fluid buildup under the car and monthly need to refill oil with issue.

Recall: "2014-2015 jeep cherokee vehicles equipped with 9-speed automatic transmissions. the transmission sensor clusters may have insufficient crimps in the transmission wire harness, and as a result, the transmission may unexpectedly shift to neutral." i have a 2014 jeep, this is exactly what my car is doing! my vin# is not listed as having a recall on it?? this will just happen at any moment no warning, it will jerk forward sometimes, then others times, it just comes out of gear and the screen saids to put in park then back to the gear. kinda hard to do that in the middle of the interstate or busy highway. (i'm going to get killed!) it seems to loose power/ it sounds/feels like it's stuck in a lower gear than it should be at times.

My daughters jeep cherokee sport 2.4l at 62000 miles has shut down with no warning while driving. it has stopped entering city streets and when braking hard to avoid another car. when the vehicle stops and suddenly its steering wheel gets hard to steer . the dash comes on with an error on screen saying, "car must be in park in order to shift." turning the key does nothing until we try multiple times.

When we started to accelerate the jeep jerked into gear. we started to hear a clanking noise and sounded like a part was rattling. since it did not sound good we pulled over and called a tow truck to tow it to the dealership nearest to us. after the inspection, the dealership told us that the ptu on our 2014 jeep cherokee was busted and the car is no longer able to be driven. prior to this event we took the jeep into another dealership several times telling them that when we accelerate it jerks into gear. they told us that three updates need to be done on the software of the vehicle. we were told that the updates has to do with the communication of the transmission and the parts that are involved when you accelerate the vehicle. after we completed the updates the jeep drove smooth but then started jerking again shortly after. now the cost of replacing the ptu is over $2000. we have read multiple forums and feedback from other 2014 jeep cherokee customers that have had the same problem. i have come to the conclusion that this is a manufacturer defect and this should be covered by chrysler.

Within two minutes of starting the vehicle and driving it on the road, the vehicle was stall mid-traffic and become inoperable. the battery light then comes on with an error on screen with something to the effect of, "car must be in park in order to shift." turning the key does nothing until 3 minutes of causing a traffic hazard when the engine finally turns over. also the transmission has rough shifts at slow speeds causing the vehicle to suddenly jerk forward as if the gas was aggressively pushed down. this jerkiness to the transmission and speed has almost caused me to hit parked vehicles when trying to park the vehicle in a parking lot area.

Service shifter light came on and gear shift lights are all red,p,r,n,d

After refueling, my wife stopped at a stoplight and the engine just shutoff with out warning. the screen in the car said to put it in park and then in drive. the car then start with out pushing the start button. this happened four times in the same day so she drove to the local jeep dealership. jeep said it was a problem with the fuel pump module and it happens when the car is over filled. my wife always stops putting when the pump handle clicks off. they have had her car for over 30 days because there are no new pumps available. this is a major safety issue that can happen at anytime. her car has only 36,500 miles on it. this is a known problem and jeep is not doing anything to fix it.

Filled up the gas tank and jeep started stalling with in the first mile of driving, was thinking it might be the fuel cap so i tightened it and drove the jeep for a few miles and everything went back to normal. next time, after another fill up a month later, my car stalled when i stopped at a stop sign about a mile after fill up, i was able to pull over, and i checked the gas cap again to be sure it was tight and restart the engine, then while in motion going thru a turn at an intersection about 1/4 of mile down the road, it tried to stall again but luckily didn't completely shut off,and the transmission shifted to neutral, and the display said i needed to place jeep in park then select drive. i was able to coast to the side of the road, and placed the shifter to neutral then back to drive. i proceeded down the road and the vehicle again shifted in to neutral and the display stated the same, to place in park then select drive. this all happened within two miles after filling up. i drove it anothe 60 miles or so after this with no problems. had no real problems before this, other than the shifting lag everyone has complained about. all recalls have been addressed. not sure if this is one problem causing the other or two separate problems.i will test it out on a back road and try to get a picture of the display if it happens again and plan a visit to the dealer for a service check after the holiday weekend.

Found oil leaking from engin in my drive way. took to garage who changed oil thay checked car . found oil filter housing leaking oil . i went on line and found many people have this problem in 2014.jeep changed this part from metal to plastic on the3 .3 v6 engin i have an appointment on 11/26/2019 at island jeep on staten island n.y at 10 am the estimate for repair around 800 dollars my issue is after fixing it it can happen again . because the plastic material used to make part is not suitable for the high temp on manifold whear it attaches to engin .

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while operating the vehicle, the instrument panel suddenly turned dark, shut off, and the engine stalled. after restarting the engine, the vehicle operated normally. the contact stated that the failure occurred on multiple occasions. the vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure and no failure was found. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 90,000. the vin was unknown.

My car starts to stall, slow down then jerks and doesn't move afterwards. then a message comes up saying 'shift to p, then desired gear' and i have to shut the car off about 4 times before being able to drive it again. this is while i was driving heading to work, while at a green light.

Every few weeks, i will get a warning that flashing on my display while driving saying "shift into p before shifting to desired gear", and the engine dies a couple seconds later. this has happened on cold days, warm days, flat roads, hills, and turns. rural roads with low speeds as well as the interstate at 60+ mph. takes about 2 minutes before the car will restart and has left me in the middle of traffic on several occasions, causing a danger to myself and other drivers. most commonly happens when my oil life is below 30%, but has occurred at other times as well.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while the fuel tank was full, the vehicle jerked and shuddered. all the warning indicators were illuminated on the instrument panel. after driving approximately 700 feet, the vehicle resumed normal operation. the contact took the vehicle to freedom chrysler dodge jeep ram by ed morse (815 e camp wisdom rd, duncanville, tx 75116) where it was diagnosed, but the failure could not be duplicated. the battery was replaced, but the failure recurred and the vehicle lost power. the vehicle was towed by aaa to the dealer for a second diagnostic test, but the cause of the failure still could not be determined. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 88,700.

While driving the engine stalls out. it has been well maintained at the dealership. the dealership claims they have no knowledge of this type of problem but a google search shows that it is a common issue leaving people stranded in dangerous places.

My car starts and will drive then randomly turn off while i'm slowing down or waiting to turn. it shuts off the engine and battery light come on. i wait a few seconds and it starts right back up. it does it at least once a day but when i take it to the auto shop they can't identify any codes or anything that's wrong.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that the engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the oil pump sensor, oil pump, and brakes were replaced. the failure recurred and the vehicle was taken to courtesy automotive group (9208 e adamo dr, tampa, fl 33619, (813) 235-4700) where it was diagnosed that the oil pump needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the contact stated that the vehicle became stuck in safe mode. the contact stated that the vehicle was repaired three times for the same failure code; however, the failure continued. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 100,200.

The vehicle has a consistent issue of shutting off while driving after refueling. issue usually occurs within a mile of the gas station. the car will begin stuttering and lunging and will shut off stopped or even at highway speeds. the panel shows a transmission light and engine light and will not function again until after putting it in park, turning off the accessories and restarting the vehicle. the vehicle runs fine after restarting, and will not have the issue again until refueling. the vehicle shutting off on the highway is a very dangerous and nerve-racking experience.*dt

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and called an independent mechanic to come to the scene. the mechanic located failure code number: p1d73 (active grill shutter). the independent mechanic lifted the hood and noticed that two plastic pieces of grill shutter were detached. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer and was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 512,000.

Engine stalls while driving. two cases in which this occurs: 1) after fueling the vehicle, if "topped off", the engine will stall when driving resumes. 2) random times, driving the car...when stopped, then turning left, the engine will stall in traffic (engine light comes on). able to restart, but engine makes terrible noise (whining) on first restart attempt. the engine stall issue appears common to this vehicle (per internet search). stalling in traffic or during turns creates safety hazard to driver and other drivers in the area.

After filling gas tank, jeep will unexpectedly lose power and shut off. this happens several times. accelerating and pumping gas to keep it running will speed the process of returning to normal operation. gas is never overfilled. once pump shuts off no additional fuel is added at pump. took to dealership. they charged over 900 to replace the ecm. problem repeated on next fill up. this problem is widely reported on the internet even though dealership denies any knowledge of problem

Gear becomes stuck in the transmission while driving at low speed causing vehicle to rock as if it was hit from the back, took it in multiple times and was told the transmission software need calibrated but i suspect it is due to unexpected shifting of the transmission to neutral, resulting in a loss of drive which may increase the risk of a crash.

After fueling, the jeep will start surging, the idling becomes erratic and then it will stall out with the parking brake light coming on, service transmission light comes on, the d on the ip flashes and when placing gear selector from d to p, the jeep makes a loud clunk which can be felt thru the floor. shifting into any other gear does the same. this has happened over 10 times since purchasing new. we never top off the fuel tank and take care to fill up if tank shows 1/4 full. it's been to the dealer, at least twice, to have the transmission "flashed" but the problem keeps recurring. each time the dealer (greenville chrysler, greenville, tx) tries to charge us a diagnostic fee which we adamantly reject after the first time because the problem is exactly the same. just 4 days ago, my wife was turning left at a light from a stop, after fueling, and it stalled in the middle of the intersection. she was able to restart it and drive but she could hear the loud clunk when putting it in d. she immediately came home and parked it and i confirmed the cel, service transmission light, parking light, flashing d on the ip and i switched from p to d and r and it clunked each time. i unplugged the battery to see if it would clear any codes and "reset" and let it sit overnight and this morning it started up fine with no warning lights on the ip. we took it this afternoon to pick up our son from school and it did the same thing with all the warning lights, clunking when shifting gear and we limped it home. i've disconnected the battery and will reconnect in the morning and take it to the dealership.*dt*jb*dt consumer stated in short, after filling up with fuel, the jeep stutters and/or shuts off. for me, this happened in parking lots or somewhere other than a public road. however, my wife has experienced this on the road on several occasions.the jeep will run fine for about 2-3 months and then starts to act up again. *jb

I started my car early in the morning to go to work and after a couple of feet of driving the vehicle, the engine turned off and battery light came on. battery is sufficiently charged. turned the car back on, drove a couple more blocks and it did it again, then again while trying to get on the freeway.

As i approached an intersection and pushed on the breaks the car stalled out. warning lights came on. after restarting the car it stalled out again when i tried to break a second time. this has happened at least 4 times. the last time it happened, the car stalled out in the middle of a main roadway as i approached a red light; i was almost rear-ended. i tried to restart the car. once i got it restarted i tried to put it in gear and the car bucket and stalled out again. i tried a number of times to restart the car and eventually got it started. i eventually got it into gear and started to drive off the roadway. the car drove very jittery and with little to no power. most warning lights on the dash came on - 4wd inoperable; put car into gear and restart, service transmission, traction control problem, battery problem. i have had it to two dealerships. once said it was the battery; i replaced it. the other first said it was oil consumption with the engine but when that turned out not to be the case the dealership and chrysler/jeep are telling me that this is a problem due to overfilling the gas and that the only fix is not to top off the gas tank. really? this only started at @ 42,000 miles. also, i don't think the gas was topped off each time this happened. i also live in a state where you cannot pump your own gas so if the gas station puts too much gas in the car stalls and creates a safety hazard? how much is too much gas? there is nothing in the car manual. there is no warning in and around the gas tank. this is a very serious problem and causes a very dangerous car to operate. there either needs to be a real fix for this problem or the cars need to be taken off the road. *ln*dt*jb

3rd time since purchasing this vehicle.no warning i turn it of wont crank tunr over nothing.lights still working

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving 40 mph, the vehicle seized and the engine revved as the accelerator pedal was applied. when the brake pedal was applied, the rpms increased to high. the "service transmission" message was displayed. the vehicle was taken to larry h. miller chrysler dodge jeep ram (1800 w 104th ave, westminster, co 80234, (720) 907-0928), but the failure was unable to be duplicated. the dealer stated that a software update was needed and the oil was low. the repairs were made, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where an oil change was completed. the manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to a local dealer. the failure mileage was 88,000.

Car literally stops working while driving, locking steering and no power brakes to stop. has happened twice, while turning both directions. others online have had it happen while driving straight, and crashed as a result. jeep dealer blames oil level, transmission, and software, but no fixes have helped. currently installing new transmission due to horrible shifting. dealer states oil level can be 1/4" low on the dipstick (within the safe zone) and it can make the car quit running while you are driving 70 mph down the highway! many others have experienced the same issues! this is a dangerous car that must be taken off the road immediately.

On 3 occasions since obtaining this car it has stalled, struggled with power, and would suddenly stop while moving in traffic. the dashboard would light up, the car would give several messages and would refuse to start. the most dangerous time was when traveling at 35mph there was a loud boom and the car suddenly stopped jerking me visciously and forcing several cars behind me to slam on brakes, nearly forcing an accident. when taken to the dealership i was told the software needed to be updated. this has happened twice with sudden stops and the first time it just wouldn't gain power and was shifting very hard. the car has been in the shop and i have driven loaners more than this vehicle i purchased in january. i fear for my life and will not take a road trip because of what may happen. please help!!!

Bought the car about 6 months ago started having issues with transmission shifting and took it in and they told me all it needed was a software update and still to this day i have even more issues car don't start at time and then when it does check engine light turns on and when i try to put it on drive i big a big club i noise and you can really feel the car shake from the shift and and says service transmission and then all of a sudden all the service light come of by far the worse car i have ever bought!! and tell this day i still have those issues

This is the second time it's happened. after i fill up a tank load of gas, the car wants to lunge forward after coming to a stop. it does a few jolts before it picks up speed. today, when i cranked it, it stalled. i turned it off then cranked it again and it was fine. then i pulled out the driveway and proceeded to drive down the street (35 mph). when i approached the stop sign, the car said 'shift to park to shift gears.' i shifted from drive to park, waited a minute, then back to drive. the car would not go. i turned it off and then back on, shifted to drive then proceeded to drive. i got up to 45 mph and approached a stop sign. the car said 'shift to park to shift gears.' at the stop sign, i shifted from drive to park, waited then shifted to drive. the car would not go. i turned it off then tried to turn it back on and it stalled. i turned it off then waited a few minutes before turning it back on.

Vehicle does not start'- initially seems battery related, but battery checks okay at two different parts retailers. finally got a 'service shifter' message on the led readout on the dashboard. but problem is intermittent and dealership says they can't fix it unless it acts up in their possession. some owners in an online forum report similar issues across a number of model years. please help.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact took the vehicle to chrysler world (2612 county road ee, abrams, wi 54101) where it was diagnosed that the oil cooler housing failed and needed replacement. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

Service engine light comes on while in motion on the highway when trips are over 45 minutes. while service engine is lit up, the car will not accelerate and i have to pull over to the shoulder. after turning engine off and back on, car will then accelerate. this has been taken to the dealership and code was p1da9. dealer claims that there is nothing they can do to fix this code at the moment. code was cleared and after another trip, the same code came up.

1. the car shifts really hard into gear as i am driving. next issue the door electrically just stopped working

Transmission slips into neutral

While accelerating on the highway, my vehicle engaged in to park. my vehicle wouldn't do anything but slow down to a roll. i was able to brake, but the vehicle became idle.

Around 4:30 pm, after just a few seconds of leaving my driveway, a message came on that stated i needed to put the vehicle in park before i could shift gears and then my battery light and engine light came on. i pulled over, put vehicle into park & then shut it off. restarted it, but struggled to start.. attempted to restart a third time but was dead. turned the key to run to see what lights stayed on the dashboard the battery was still on while the engine light disappeared. after waiting about a half hour, my father in law was able to give me a jump. car started and was able to drive get the battery replaced. however i read last night similar complaints, with the battery not being the issue so my husband will be getting the previous battery we had, tested this weekend.

The car will begin to hesitate and then the transmission will go into a neutral state, but the lights will not show that it is in neutral. the car will roll forward or backward depending on where you are. you cannot shift, when you do try to shift, the car will jolt like the engine is going to fall out of the car. turning the engine off and on, several times, while waiting each time clears the problem. jeep can not reproduce this it so they will not fix it. will get a message on dash stating to service trasmission and parking break. this has happened at least 5 times that i have documented by pictures and video on my phone however, has happened a lot more. specific dates documented are 11/19/17, 11/21/17, 11/29/17, 12/13/18, 4/2/19.

Vehicle will stall while driving with an error message displaying "park to shift gear". had battery replaced as that is what local jeep dealership stated issue was. problem actually worsened after this. *tr

This car continues to turn off while i am driving! today it turned off on me on an intersection! the car jerked, started to shake & then many lights came on. the check engine light, the battery light, the brake light, many more (please see picture attached) i bought the car at carmax. had the exact same issue in november of 2018, got the car serviced under my extended warranty. now, 4 months later the same issue happened. in november, they informed me the issue was the car fuel injector & a bad sensor in the transmission. today's issues is still unknown, as the car has to be sent off for evaluation. but today was a very scary situation for me! i would hate this to happen to anyone with children in the car!

I am the owner of a 2014 jeep cherokee. in the two years since i've owned my car, i've experienced 30+ instances in which my car stops working in the middle of operation. it's happened while i've been driving on the interstate, in the middle of intersections, and just about every other type of road possible. it usually occurs after i make a turn or come to a hard stop. the car will immediately, and completely randomly, come to a stop. the wheel will no longer work, nor will the engine. it comes with no warning. i will then have to turn my car on and off several times before i can get it in motion again. i've taken it to multiple mechanics and the only solution seems to be to get an oil change, though i am not quite due for one when this happens. after research on the internet, i've found this is a common occurrence amongst jeep owners and the car is eating through an abnormal amount of oil. jeep is well aware of this problem and has done nothing to fix it. the jeep dealers i've taken my car to don't give any alternatives to fixing this problem. this is extremely dangerous and it's only a matter of time before someone is killed or severely injured as a result of this.

I was driving around 9:30pm on wednesday from class back home (12-15 min drive) on a busy highway (ga 400). i hear a ding and looked down and noticed that my vehicle began to decelerate from 65 mph, i was unable to pull over to the side of the road. the car stayed that the transmission needed to be serviced and that there was also an issue with the park shift. the d light on the gear shift also began to blink; the vehiclee case to a complete stop in the middle lane on the highway, i had to call the police to come and block the highway and have someone move the vehicle. when we attempted to put the vehicle in drive again it began to move backwards this time. this is the second incident in which my jeep began to decelerate, the first time was a few months ago last year (oct/nov), the car did the same thing on a busy road where it began to decelerate and wouldn't pick up any speed whatsoever when gassed. once i tried to turn it back on and drive the vechicle it began to move backwards in drive. the car was towed to keep and they said the issue was battery related and 'fixed' it, i picked it up a few days later and the car began to decelerate the same day while i was driving on the highway. i had to get it towed back to jeep; i was informed that there is no issue and it seemed that they missed a step upon fixing the battery. i inquired whether this is part of the issues people faced when it was recalled in 2014/2015 and was told no. i asked if they're sure it is safe to drive and they insisted that it was.
