While driving the vehicle, all of a sudden there was a shutdown of the vehicle's computer/electrical system, a loss of any steering control, an immediate vehicle deceleration with no ability to correct by accelerating, and a loss of braking control.
Takata recall car bucking when shifting into gear. also there was a knocking noise when driving at different speeds and when turning the wheel or going over bumps. it got so bad that it sounded like my tire was going to fall off or the underneath of my car. also my car was shaking when it would hit a bump. there was also a whining noise that would occur when i turned my wheel either way. this problem has been occurring for almost two years now, everytime i brought it back to the dealer they stated that my "car was fine" was not until i brought it to another mechanic that they told me it was my front passenger wheel ball joint. this would occur while the car was on the highway or side roads, as long as the car was in motion. also my car would have problems when shifting. the car bucked on my on the highway when i was going 65 the car lights started flashing and i got warning lights stating to put car into desired gear, check oil and transmission. i pulled into the break down lane and put the car in park. turned the car on and off & the same thing happened. *tr
Car randomly stops moving while driving, sometimes while turning a corner. seems like it turns itself off, but lights on dash are still on. i'm not really sure what causes it and am hoping that it will be resolved once they have a solution to the current recall for the transaxle wire harness. have brought it to dealer a few times and they keep telling us it has to do with the 20% oil life. i don't see how that would make a car turn off. and why would they make a car that needs to have the oil changed before the oil life is up or at all.
My jeep stalls without warning while in motion. chrysler was notified as well as my dealer. they both indicate that i need to add oil between 750 to 2000 miles to prevent a stall. the stall is a "safety" feature that prevents the motor from seizing according to chrysler. oil consumption tests were completed at 500 miles with no negative data. there is no warning when the vehicle stalls to include an oil pressure warning. every 750 miles seems excessive and i would like to think that if the vehicle is operating at low oil pressure, that a warning light would indicate that you are about to stall. chrysler has closed my complaint with no further action and indicated it was the owner's responsibility to monitor every 750 miles. each stall was while in motion and on a busy road. the date provided is approximate. stalls have happened multiple times and we replenish synthetic oil with significant regularity.
After purchasing the new 2014 jeep cherokee latitude, i noticed that it had a rough time shifting. the transmission would shift violently from 2nd to 3rd gear and anytime you would stop on an incline. we have had all the necessary recalls done to the vehicle but it has continued to have the same problem. when communicating this issue to the dealership all i get is that we are not used to the 9 gear transmission and we need to get used to it. i will be taking it in for the fourth time to see if they can fix it. on a second note i have also had the vehicle taken in to the shop to see why the vehicle suddenly shuts off. this has also happened to us on several occasions, but when i take it to the dealership they tell me there is nothing wrong. this is a huge safety issue and concerns me. this would be a disaster if it happens to die when i am on the highway. i am very disappointed with this vehicle and more so with the way i am treated when i take it to the dealership. there is something seriously wrong with this vehicle and it needs to be addressed before people get injured.
The transmission stalls and dead stops in the middle of the road. this has the drive ii transmission. there has now been 3 transmissions in this car and we do not feel safe being behind the wheel of a car that dead stops. we are very fortunate to not have been involved in a severe crash. there have been other recalls also on this car. those have been taken care of. these have all been since purchase date of july 2014.

Safety recall listed below. notified 2 months ago. this can cause a crash without warning! i am not comfortable driving a vehicle that could cause serious bodily injury/death to myself or anyone else. vin: [xxx] year: 2014 make: jeep model: cherokee limited fwd number of open recalls: 1 nhtsa recall number: opens new window takes away from vin lookup section> 16v529 recall date: august 22, 2016 manufacturer recall number: s55 summary: the transaxle wire harness on your vehicle may have been built with insufficient wire terminal crimp(s). this may cause an intermittent high electrical resistance in the transaxle wire harness circuit(s). a high resistance circuit(s) in this wiring harness will cause the on-board diagnostic system to set a diagnostic trouble code (dtc). when the dtc is set, the system defaults the transaxle to neutral and the customer experiences a loss of motive power. safety risk: the loss of motive power could cause a crash without warning. remedy: the transmission control module (tcm) must be reprogrammed with new software. the new software strategy will eliminate the transaxle shift-to-neutral condition for this issue, place the transaxle in a fixed gear limp mode and illuminate the malfunction indicator lamp (mil) if a high resistance circuit is detected in the transaxle wire harness. recall status: recall incomplete. remedy not yet available information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
While driving about 50 mph on winding hilly country road, the vehicle suddenly jerked and all the dashboard lights lit up. the car completely shut down. this shutdown lasted for only 2-3 seconds and then restarted as if nothing ever happened. it was not necessary for the driver to do anything. there was no need to restart the vehicle it restarted on its own as the key remained in the ignition and we did not touch it.
Vehicle has been serviced multiple times for transmission not shifting, shifting hard enough to lose traction, and shifting into neutral at random. transmission is still not fixed nor functioning properly. this also triggers the stability control to malfunction and lose control on slippery surfaces. now the four wheel drive feature is broken and not functioning as well. dealer has had the vehicle more than 6 times in the past 8 weeks, and several times prior in the two years before. this vehicles transmission is a huge safety and loss of vehicle control issue.
I have had multiple instances of the transmission falling out of gear and losing all power. in order to get any acceleration i have to restart the car multiple times. at this point i will be unable to get above 5-10 mph. when shifting between gears during these instances the car will jerk violently as i shift between p r n & d. on one occasion the car accelerated in reverse when the dash shows that i was in d. in every instance this has occurred while i was driving the vehicle. multiple times both on the freeway and on city streets. when the issue occurs my check engine, service transmission, service parking brake, and traction control lights come on. the issue is not affected by speed, turning, etc. i currently have a replacement transmission in the car and have had it into two different dealerships multiple times for this issue and am still experiencing the problem. i have taken video records of the latest instances and shown the service advisors.
Purchased the 2014 jeep cherokee and initially had trouble with the zf 9-speed. issues involved jerky rides in the low gears. issues were so bad that at times the car would take 5-10 seconds to switch gears and i would be stuck in neutral in the middle of the road, almost causing several accidents. i have now taken my car to two dealerships over the past 2+ years roughly 7 times and theyve perfomed system updates that are supposed to help. they have yet to help and most recently i was involved in another near accident. i have called the fiat chrysler service center to put a case together. i am very frustrated with my purchase and hope that they can fix these issues. a more concerning issue was after two weeks of purchase. i was driving on the highway, going roughly 70 mph, and a warning light appeared on the dash screen and they all the screens went black and i lost the ability to accelerate. i was forced to move from the left lane to the far right and let the car come to a stop. i contacted the jeep dealership, since it had only been 2 weeks after purchase, and they told they didnt know what was wrong and to just turn off the car and wait 5 minutes and then try again. after doing this i drove the car to the dealership and asked them for a reason to why it happened. they couldn't provide an answer and saw nothing wrong with the car. 2 years went by and this hadnt happened again, until this january. i was again on the highway and lost control of accelerating and almost was in an accident. i brought it to the dealership and they said they performed software updates. hasnt happened again, but last time it took 2 years.
The transmission sticks in neutral and i have to stop the vehicle, put it in park, engage the parking brake, disengage the parking brake, and shift into drive in order to fix the issue. there are several known issues with the 9-speed transmission. there have been two recalls and still giving me problems. i took it to the shop today. i have no idea how much this is going to cost.
When i got off work one morning, about to get on interstate but jeep was acting funny, all the warning lights came on, so i decided to stay on service road, came to a light and stopped, mind you all the lights were blinking and then my wipers started going off, the jeep wouldn't go then it died. i tried three times to push the start button but the jeep didnt start until finally the 3rd time, it didn't drive well, spudders until i pulled over into a parking lot, the car warning lights were on and flashing wipers going without being on. i turned the car off and waited for about 15 minutes and it came back on still had warning lights on but not flashing and the car drove fine all the way to the dealership. this happened about 5 weeks ago they found nothing wrong. about two weeks i was backing up, then put in drive and the jeep continue to back up, had to put in park then in drive to go forward this happen three times on that day, then on same day was driving on the interstate and going about 73 mph it was driving rough, the rpms stayed on 4 and never did idal down. took to dealership again, nothing wrong. then on friday 7/29/16 same thing with all the lights and wipers going off, back to dealership, as of yesterday tuesday still nothing wrong. i brought with 176 miles on it, never got the extra warrenty or service warrenty sorry don't the money for that, i had to pay for my own rent a car, dealership won't pay for it. i have 57000 miles on my car in two years, all hwy miles i work far from home. i want to trade but will be upside down very bad. i don't feel safe in this jeep and will never buy another one ever, ever, ever... jeep dealership doesn't give a rat's [xxx] either. not a happy camper. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Vehicle doesn't idle at stop signs or light, often the engine shuts down if brake is applied abruptly. when selecting drive from reverse the vehicle engine dies and same with turning left or right if your feet is not on the accelerator pedal. happens both on the highway or around local streets.
My car stalls randomly (approximately every 1000 miles) while i'm driving (in motion). there is no warning. this last time the car stopped when i was traveling 70 miles per hour on hwy 5 - just died right in the lane!! it has also stalled at busy intersections, on onramps, huge hills etc. i finally - after 10 visits to the jeep repair shop - understand from the dealership that the car needs a new engine to fix the problem. but they say this is acceptable under jeep guidelines and won't pay for the new engine... i've put over 20 quarts of expensive synthetic oil in my car over the past year and never know if the car will be safe to drive. this is the worst car i've ever had and i'm disgusted with jeep. by the way - i just found out it needs a fifth recall - part still in development (as always). when i asked the woman who told me of this new development, she couldn't explain what the risk is while we wait for the new part. in 2 1/2 years of owning this piece of crap car, i've had five recalls and over a dozen stalls... i'm so angry and bummed.
Vehicle has cut off while driving, unexpectedly on 6 occasions. the vehicle loses power, steering becomes stuff, and the driver dash shows a message to shift to neutral while actively in drive. after several attempts at a restart, the vehicle eventually resumes normal driving. this has occurred in my personal vehicle, as well as a rental vehicle.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving at unknown speeds, the vehicle burned an excessive amount of oil and stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened case number: 32089788. no further assistance was offered. the failure mileage was 90,000.
I have a 2014 jeep and every time i drive the transmission slips gears, mostly if i am slowing down but it also does it when i am accelerating. i have had this problem for about 2 years now and the dealer says it nothing to worry about. i also have a problem with the air bag light it keeps coming on and off i have told the dealer about this and it has taken them months to finally listen to me. then i find out that there is and electricall problem, honestly what else can go wrong. i mean seriously 6 recalls already and i am sure there is no need for this. to be quite honest i was told today that my car was no safe to drive sue to the electrical issue.
This car is an accident waiting to happen! the transmission (i-4 specifically for me) buckles and lunges in gears 1-3. it gets stuck in gear, it goes into 2 gears at the same time. it has gotten stuck on the acceleration. i am terrified to drive this car in traffic, or anywhere i need to go slowly since it does not always respond when i brake or give it gas. i wouldn't put my worst enemy in this car! the transmission problems started on say 1 with 100 miles on the car, and have kept going for the past 2.5 years. i have had a transmission replacement and that did not help.
Transmission failed while driving at about 60 mph on a highway. lost power, lost power steering. could barely steer car to the side of the road. turned off, waited, restarted and it ran fine. service transmission light came on for a while, then went off after about 50 miles. this happened for the second time on june 27, 2016. after the first time several months ago we took the vehicle to the dealership for a software update, this is really dangerous. losing power and power steering while traveling down a highway at 60 mph could result in an accident if it happened in traffic. luckily for us, traffic was light so we we able to get off the road on both times this has happened. must be a software defect, as the engine is running fine.
Vehicle has stalled twice at a 30 mph rate of speed due to oil low not empty. if vehicle should fall below 2 quarts of oil, vehicle may stall and stop working properly while in motion. my vehicle hold 4-5 quarts of oil and was not due for an oilchange and stalled twice while on residential road. dealer stated my vehicle should remian a full level of oil in order for it to not stall!!! no oil leaks or mechanical issues were found during service.
Numerous computer/electrical intermittent issues with vehicle. most recent episode the care would completely shut down at freeway speeds. no engine, no lighting, as if it was hit with an electromagnetic pulse. this unfortunately locks the steering as well. the key fob is non responsive. after 5-7 minutes (if you happen to not get hit and die), the car comes back to life (interior lights come back and after another minute will start). also have had "service air bag indicator system", "service parking brake", "service transmission", "4wd system unavailable", check engine light, traction control light, battery light, parking brake amber service light, flashing odometer, flashing d in dash. dash completely goes blank intermittently as well. transmission has also been stuck in neutral numerous time (can not turn car off unless in park, cannot shift). numerous trips to dealer for warranty service. this last time they found a ground connection loose in the driver side kick panel. so if that ground comes loose or frayed, the car can just kill me?
We purchased our 2014 jeep cherokee in december 2014 (new). we noticed immediately the transmission was jerking, and when coming to a stop the vehicle would surge forward. the dealership said the vehicle had to get use to our driving. we continued to have problems with the transmission and took the vehicle to the dealership. after four trips to the dealership, and being told they could not re-create the problem the service tech was able to re-create, however we were told there was nothing the dealership could do, and we would have to drive the vehicle until it broke down. in april 2016, the transmission was replaced. immediately, we begin having the same jerking, lurching and surging. now we have been told, we need to have another transmission put in the vehicle. this vehicle only has 23,500 miles on it, and this is the second transmission. i have filed a complaint with jeep, and gone through arbitration, however jeep doesn't feel the need to stand by their product. this is the eleventh chrysler/jeep/dodge product we have purchased, and it will be the last.
Please read...traveling on interstate 75 n / approximate speed 65 - 75 mph / vehicle "turned off, went dead" / coasted through two lanes to get to an emergency side spot! it truly is a miracle that we were not ran over!!! contacted a wrecker service and having to wait 1 1/2hrs on the side of a busy interstate, our vehicle was lifted and taken to a dealership / the wrecker driver wasn't able to get vehicle started or out of gear until he accessed help via his phone, which allowed him to move gear but still didn't crank / next day, a rep from the dealership called and said the vehicle started up and the issue mentioned above could not be replicated??? a strange report was given that there seem to be grease from an unknown source that was seen under the vehicle and perhaps that caused the problem??? we picked the vehicle up and made it home (70 mi) / this is extremely worrisome, not to mention, of course it could be deadly! please help.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving approximately 5 mph, the contact heard an unusual noise underneath the hood. the vehicle immediately accelerated and crashed into a parked vehicle, causing extensive damage to both vehicles. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the air bags did not deploy. a police report was filed. the contact sustained a minor injury that did not require medical attention. the vehicle was towed to a dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and an investigation was ordered. the failure mileage was 13,000. updated 08/31/16*lj *cn
The jeep continues to stall with no warning in traffic, causing a serious risk of collision. the vehicle has also experience unwanted and automatic acceleration, also causing a serious risk of injury. a leaky break line was just replaced. the vehicle only has 27,000
Reported our problem in may 2016 -- received a recall notice months afterward, however, dealership said "didn't apply to our vehicle" - we had exact stated problem on the recall notice - so confused, frustrated, not to mention afraid to take vehicle on long trips on expressways - we rent cars for this (our problem: vehicle turned "off" completely in the middle of a busy expressway - we are lucky to be alive!)
The primary safety concern is the rough and erratic shifting between gears. the sluggish and unreliable acceleration and the sudden downshifts are troublesome. i've now been told that i need a new transmission at 12,000 miles.
After only 21000 miles and regular maintenance at the dealership, my check engine light came on. the dealer would not book me a service appointment any sooner than one week out. two days after the check engine light illuminated, as i was driving on a city street to work, a "service transmission" warning appeared and the vehicle immediately became unresponsive. even switching to tiptronic and no matter how much the gas pedal was depressed, i was not able to accelerate nor have the engine rpm move beyond 1000 rpm. i was lucky that i chose not to take the highway to work or i would have been rear-ended with the car slowing down so much.
Continuously having issues with the vehicle, related to acceleration while driving in traffic, car shutting off in traffic, not starting back up right away, gears shifting roughly while - is an automatic 9 speed 4 cylinder vehicle. i have been offered a 5% discount on a jeep trade in by the jeep resolution department, but at this point, not sure if its worth buying another jeep. i am afraid of this happening again. unfortunately, the mechanics, cant find what wrong with the vehicle, and they also test drove the car, driving around the dealership, on side streets, but not in traffic, or stop and go traffic. i am frustrated at this point, jepp knows these are issues with many of there engines, and fail to truly hear the customers complaints, to the point of taking these complaints more seriously. the resolution offered are not good enough to fix the issue, as i feel i would trade this vehicle in and they will turn around and sell it again.... not safe at all. ! i need help, as i don't know what to do next, take the offer or just trade in with a different dealer and car type/model nothing chrysler/jeep related uuuggghhhh!
The vehicle has stalled at slow speeds several times over the last few weeks while making slow speed turns or coming to a stop. the vehicle will not re-start for several minutes and only after several attempts. the dealer has investigated the problem but cannot duplicate the problem. it is definitely a safety concern as the ehicle is stranded in the road.
2014 jeep cherokee bought in december 2014 500miles. shortly after purchase, car shifting erratically, lunging forward at stops, and not accelerating when stepping on gas appropriately. on the way to work one day, car bogged down in traffic, turned off, would not turn back on for over 30 minutes, trying to start all lights and check engine warnings were going haywire. car finally started, got to work, but car did not start up again after my shift, had to have car towed to dealer. they did updates and computer resets, picked up vehicle, only for vehicle to shut down on the lot, they took it back in ,and kept it over night. they felt they fixed the problem, but again on the way to work, car still shifting dangerously, lunging forward, and has shut down again. even while in a drive thru, car lunged forward almost hitting another car in front of me. car taken back into dealer, again they completed a ton of recalls, and updates, some repeated form the last few times, i took the car in. the car has been in the shop 5-6 times now, with 2 claims escalated to jeep/chrysler. i am pregnant, and with the car shutting down in the middle of traffic is extremely, lunging forward, shifting erratically, and bogging down while on highway has only brought fear to my safety, the safety of my pregnancy, and the safety of others driving around me, as i hope this can be fixed before something horrible happens. i have requested to claims that the car be replaced, or be issued a buy back, safety is my main concern ! this vehicle is no good< and should not be driven or resold !
Loss of motor power causing error codes and the shut down of vehicle. vehicle sometimes restarts but often does not. this occurs while vehicle is in motion. vehicle has been brought back to dealer 4 different times since april 1016 and still not being fixed. i received a recall notice and dealer stated parts currently not available anywhere to repair issue.
Bought this at steve jones jeep in owensboro ky in may of 2014. i took it back to them 4 times complaining about transmission shifting erratically. this is a similar complaint that i have read over and over about on this site and other forums. jeeps response is to do an other software download. they did 2-3 software reloads but said it was running normal and there was nothing they could do. i have learned to deal with it for last 1.5 years. it has days where it shifts really rough other days it is great. my friends joke with me whether my car is having a good or bad day, seriously! sounds funny but it has been really aggravating. every once in a while it stalls when coming to a stop at stop signs/lights, or when taking off. to restart have to remove key and then it usually restarts fine. this morning it seemed to be running fine, i pulled out of subdivision and it stalled in middle of road. i tried restarting and it wouldn't, could hear fuel pump up and engine turned over then starter disengaged. during this i was nearly hit by a on coming car. i push if to side of road. after 8th or 9th try it finally started. it had a red warning "service transmission" and engine light on. it stalled several more times after putting in gear. it felt like it was stuck in 3rd gear. i shut it off for 10 minutes then restarted it and warnings were gone and it drove normal to work. coming home it also stalled once while leaving work. today was the first time this has happened that it nearly caused a major accident. i really fear this problem will end up in my death, i will end up killed in an accident because of a software glitch. i made another appointment foe this saturday at dealer but i already know what the out come will be. they will reload the software and there will be no change. i can not afford to buy another vehicle but after this morning i feel i have to do something.

Ok i have a 2014 jeep cherokee limited with front wheel drive . only has under 54000 miles on it i am experiencing transmission problems especially in reverse it's extremely loud and rumbles constant while in reverse . also while in drive once moveing it bucks but eventually starts to go away after a lil while. but i also loose power i'll have to put the pedal to the floor the accelerator and i move extremely slowly then it will eventually kick in and have a very hard time going up large hills all hills really and it struggles to get up it like has a lot of lack of power i've put my jeep in the shop numerous times and have had major work done to it. one of them that was costly was the car would not read that it was in park so i couldn't shut the car off i love the jeep product but i hate this one it needs to be recalled. thanks
My jeep cherokee 2014 has 21181 mileage and the check engine light came on .i notice that the car was shifting into gear hard and at times would not accelerate when getting on the freeway . so my husband took it to get the oil changed at the dealership where we bought the jeep and they said everything looked good. well when my husband left all the dummy lights came on he turned right around and went back to the dealership ,the service manager came out and said the tech put the wrong oil filter on and that they would have to redo the oil change . on a month later the check engine light comes on so we call the dealership and ask if maybe them putting the wrong filter on that i would cause the check engine light to come on .the service manager said no that we would have to take it to jeep . it is still under warranty because it is under the mileage .but i looked on the complaint forum and seen many people having the same problem some having a hard time getting chrysler to help them . and almost all of them having the transmission replaced . i find that to be very disturbing considering i have only had the car for 8 months . i feel that the car should be replaced this is a dangerous situation that could cost lives . thank you .tacoma wa *tr
Vehicle misfires. dealership has had it since march 19th and has replaced 3 heads. still no resolution. have contacted chrysler for help and have a case manager but not really helpful. i would like the engine replaced but chrysler says it costs too much. i feel it is unsafe to rework the heads so many times.

Have not had an issue yet, but am concerned there may be. i've had problems with the shifting/stalling/engine hesitation/transmission issues of my car since i purchased it on 2/19/16, with only 15,300 (approx) miles on it. does fine on the highway, but all kinds of problems in town. the dealership is telling me there is nothing that can be done until chrysler corp finishes the computer update to repair all this. wanted this safety issue out there, in case something does happen. very frustrating!
This vehicle's transmission slips in and out of gear without warning. this causes the car to "jerk" at any given time. it sometimes happens as i am accelerating, but also happens as i slow down so there is no definite action that is being performed to cause this problem.
