After a complete stop at a stop sign, "service transmission" message appeared on the speedometer, check engine light turned on, car was beeping all over the place, and could not accelerate after stepping on the gas pedal 3 times. i had to turn off the car and restart the car on the spot. after restarting the car, engine light stayed on and i was able to drive home. prior to this incident the check engine light has been on and off for about a few months since i purchased the vehicle on november of 2013. seems like other jeep cherokee owners are also experiencing similar problems if not more serious and fatal. several complaints found on this forum (http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2014/jeep/cherokee/power+train) regarding the issue reported that their vehicles lost power on the highway. other even had trouble with their gears. also the car would accelerate a little more even the driver had let go of the gas. this is definitely a serious problem and needs to be addressed and investigated immediately before someone gets hurt or even killed. *tr
My vehicle has been giving lots of trouble since i purchased it. it decides to shutdown by itself when it wants to. it has put me in several scary situations. uselly i am on the hwy in the left lane and it decides to shut down. giving me only about 45 seconds to get over. the emergency brake warning lights along with traction, battery, transmission, engine the car doesn't know what to do. it has been back to the dealer for 3 computer updates.in addition..... the second to the last time they put in a brake switch. now they have my car. putting in some kind of tcm box. the car also hesitates. blinker goes on by itself decides to accelerate on its own etc. i do not believe my car will be fixed. it has been happening since early december i have a lemon. it is a very dangerous car. i have made a total of 5 payments on this car. *tr
Problem: driving down i79 clunk sound "d" on shifter starts blinking service transmission message appears service parking brake appears mil check engine light comes on esc indicator light comes on *pulled off to the side of the interstate turned car off, then back on repeated 4 times drove to a safe location called roadside assistance had car towed to dealership this is the second time this car has had a transmission failure on the interstate at 70 mph. i am now scared of this car. this is unacceptable and disappointing for a new $34,000 vehicle with 15,601 miles on it. first time this happened and was serious enough to complain about was dec. 14, 2014. *tr
While vehicle is in drive, the transmission will not engage or will lose significant power, especially on an upslope. in order to get the car into gear, you need to gun the engine, causing a jerking of the vehicle. in order to get up a hill, you must speed (breaking the law) so that the engine has enough to get the transmission in the proper gear. the cause is due to a software update by the dealer that apparently cannot be rectified, and the safety of the vehicle is seriously in question by the drivers of this vehicle. *tr
If you slow down then try to speed up the vehicle hesitants at some point it bangs into gear then takes off.i almost was in an accident trying to merge into traffic from a ramp onto a major highway when i applied pressure to the gas pedal the vehicle did not speed up it was like it was stuck in a low gear and would not accelerate this caused the person behind me to swerve around me so he could get ahead of the speeding traffic then my vehicle had a loud bang as it finally went into gear and took off like a bullet. scared the hell out of me. so yielding in this vehicle is extremely dangerous. i know this happens so i am very cautous when driving as this could cause a major incident to happen and it is scary. i had several recalls on this vehicle and had them all fixed.took this to be fixed, but they can fix it. they knew exactly what i was telling them as they were getting complaints from other owners. stop and go traffic and slow and go traffic is everyday life this is extremely dangerous to myself and others.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that when the brake pedal was depressed and released, the vehicle accelerated rapidly without warning. in addition, the vehicle sputtered as if it would stall. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 4,900.
My family and i were at an intersection going south making a right turn onto a big street. as my husband accelerated, the car would not respond, it would not move, it jolted very strong but would not accelerate. there was a message flashing on the console something like shift to p then to d, and the check engine light, the (p)! light and brake light turned on. as we were stuck in the intersection my husband turned the car off and turned it back on but it would not accelerate, he put it in reverse and was able to move the car very slowly out of the intersection. is was a sunday morning, we had to wait over an hour to have jeep roadside send a tow truck. the car was at a dealer for 2 weeks, transmission was replaced. just got it back but it still jerks when shifting gears and slow to respond when you are at a stop and accelerate. i don't feel safe in the car as its unpredictable, you don't know when the transmission will give out. this was the second time this happened to us. the first was about 7 months after we bought the car, and the second time was about 2 and half months after the first time. *tr
February 20, 2015 7:02am rush hour traffic in norfolk, va. coming out of the eastbound downtown tunnel entrance ramp onto 464 (interstate) to chesapeake, va, the vehicle revved high in red area about 3 to 5 seconds and would not accelerate. coasted over to the shoulder, placed vehicle in park but vehicle rolled down the ramp. set emergency break at this time. dealer had it until february 24, 2015 and installed some software updates and stated that this would correct the issue. this was the fist time this occurred. it occurred again on march 6, 2015 rush hour traffic at 5:04pm on ramp entrance to the interstate 464 same issue occurred where the vehicle would not accelerate and was taken to the dealer. i receive it back from the dealer on march 24, 2015. during this time there were more software updates and the star had the transmission replace and was informed that there would be no other problems. may 1, 2015 at 5:09pm rush hour traffic on 264 (interstate) in a construction area with no access to a shoulder to get out of traffic and going up hill, the engine stops accelerating and slows to approximately 15mph in traffic that is moving 65 to 70 mph. taken to dealer where star had the mechanics look over ever piece of the vehicle, download the computer and send the data to star. it was decided to change the drive train control module. it was returned to me on friday, may 8, 2015 and is now downshifting at approximately 2mph hard into first gear, causing a jerk. this is three times in a ten week time period. i currently have a lemon law case with the chrysler group. i have been told that a positive resolution will be determined by friday, may 15, 2015. i no longer feel, comfortable or confident in this vehicles reliability or do i feel at all safe in this vehicle. it has put me in harms way three times in ten weeks.
I was driving on the freeway when the car started decelerating rapidly, the "park" icon came on and the message center said "unable to shift gears while in park, check transmission" and the engine light came on. i was unable to accelerate. thankfully, i was able to pull over to the shoulder but the car would not shift gears. i turned the car off and immediately turned it back on and the car was still unable to shift gears, i could feel the car trying to shift gears but couldn't. engine light and unable to shift gears/check transmission message still appearing. i turned off the car a second time and waited a minute or two and turned the car back on. at that point, i was able to shift gears and accelerate again, however, the "check engine" light would not go off. *tr
I was driving and all of a sudden the vehicle engine turned off. thank goodness there was no traffic as i was only blocks from the jeep dealer. i waited approximately 30 seconds and pushed the start button and luckily the vehicle started but would only putt putt to the dealer. the dealer had difficulty getting the vehicle to the work station. when they called me to tell me they fixed it they told me the reason it stop was because it was 2 quarts low of oil and that was the cause. this was very strange as i reminded them to look at my service record at which i had the oil service recently done at their facility. they did not know how to respond. subsequent i contacted jeep headquarters (resolution dept.) and explained what happened and they asked me to take the vehicle to another jeep dealer for evaluation, which i have done. the other problem i have had is shifting (the vehicle jumps when shifting), they have semi corrected that by putting parts into the transmission, except the 2nd gear still jumps a bit. another problem i had, was my wife and i were exiting the vehicle with the engine turned "off" and the vehicle started on its own. i was told by the 2nd dealer there is no indication while searching with the diagnostics as to why the engine shut off while driving. i can live with the shifting but not getting explanations as to why the engine died (as they called it on the service slip, "died in flight") my wife is afraid to drive the vehicle for fear it will shut down on the freeway or any street for that matter could be extremely serious. obviously they have tried to evaluate why or what the problem is or was, but being given an explanation because it was low on oil is not comforting or not finding any codes to indicate a problem, when in fact they had done an oil change to the vehicle is a concern? *tr
Just entering the highway doing the speed limit of 70 mph with my newborn child all of a sudden my car suddenly stalled / shook/ and halted while trying to find a safe place to pull over on the higher way. the service transmission light came on. this is a huge safety concern that i had to somehow find a way to pull over on the side of a major highway with an infant in the car while my car was stalling out. *tr
2 times already i have had to take my car into the dealership because it would shut off randomly while driving. this has happened while on the highway and also while on busy streets. so far i have been able to drift to the side of the road, put the car in park and then turn the car off and back on. the car sputters when restarting and on multiple occasions will stall again. both times they tried to blame it on the oil change being overdue. the 2nd time i had to have the car towed to the dealership and they stated there was no oil in the car. how a car loses oil if there isn't a leak, i'm not sure. this is now the third time it is happening and based on the car's computer i still have 30% to go before needing an oil change and the car is shutting off on me again randomly. i was at the dealership for the 2nd time less than 3 months ago. i drive in miami and have been lucky that my son was not in the car with me.
When shifting from park to reverse or drive, the vehicle will occasionally not shift into gear, even though the display and shift control indicates that the car is in reverse or drive. when this happens, when i release the brake and apply the gas, the car does not move. this happens about once every 10-15 times the car is shifted from park. the most serious incident happened when i was parked uphill. i shifted the car into drive, but when i pushed the accelerator pedal the car did not move forward but instead started rolling backward. i had to move the shifter into park, and again into drive before the gear would engage. additionally, there have been times that the car will not accelerate after being stopped at an intersection. when i apply the gas, the car will hesitate for 1-2 seconds before engaging and moving forward. i am concerned that these issues will end up placing myself or my occupants in danger if an emergency situation arises while on the road, or if the transmission fails completely and i roll back into another car. *tr

2014 jeep cherokee .on thruway passed tractor trailer and moved into right lane digital reads 0. message display something about not being able to shift while in motion. shifter 'd" still lit red. pulled over to a stop. had to shut off and restart. june 2 on thruway in left lane. digital reads 0. same message as above plus '4wd is unavailable' shifter 'd" is still lit and 4wd is in "auto". just 2 hours ago pulling into my driveway. digital reads 0. same two messages . now shifter "d" is flashing 4wd lit in "auto". first 2 times they tell me they can't find problem. no codes they say and can't duplicate when they drive it around the block.can't wait to hear what they say tomorrow. car has needed 5/6 updates since i brought it home march 2014.one of the updates was after the first incident. something called a 'snap ring' .i just had it in for oil change a month before.i also had an oils change a month before the second incident. they said no updates that day but it needed 4 when i brought it in after last weeks incident.all 3 times the electrical was still on.nice to know i can die in a firey crash but still listen to tunes. i hope you can help. what an i supposed to do?
While driving the vehicle, the vehicle all of a sudden shut off. the "service transmission" light came on. after sending the truck to the dealership, two days later i experienced the same issue. the truck shut off when i was turning into the intersection while taking my kids to school. same message appeared on the dash. i've read online that many jeep cherokee owners are experiencing the same issue. my vehicle was purchased brand new in 2014, 37,688 miles. the vehicle is still in the shop, but i am honestly afraid to drive it again because it is very dangerous to drive a vehicle and to have it just shut off all of a sudden due to a faulty transmission by the manufacturer.
On 3 occasions now, my jeep cherokee has shut down/stalled as i was driving. it happened as i was accelerating between 50 and 55 mph. all the gages dropped and everything shut down. it lasted for about 5 seconds only and then everything came back up. on these occasions, i started to try to pull over to the side of the road, but did not have to. i've seen similar posts. i have the vehicle scheduled for work next week, but the dealership seems disinterested already. i have 3 other complaints on the vehicle as well. three other issues: 1. the vehicle shifts hard between 1st and 2nd or 2nd and 3rd. it is sporadic and doesn't always happen. 2. a rear shock has lost all of it's fluid. i've seen posts about this problem. 3. the airbag recall. so disappointing.
My brand new 2014 jeep cherokee is unsafe to drive. the engine/transmission began shutting off while shifting into lower gears, leaving my car disabled while in motion. after the car would come to a complete stop, it takes multiple attempts to turn the car back on. moreover, the car will suddenly jerk/lunge forward while slowing down with the break. so far, this car has been into kendall jeep in miami four times to fix the problem. first time, i was told computers were down and to come back. second time, i was told the problem was software related. they updated my software and told me i should be good to go. as i was literally pulling out of the lot, the car stalled again. third time, jeep salesman brings me my car after it has been in the shop. he told me to leave the car as he felt the problems i was having. with no rental car, i had to take the car home. very next morning, car stalled while driving again. i brought it back for a fourth time. this time a rental care was finally provided. they check the problem, and could find none. however, i have been video documenting all stalls and problems. the problem is real and the videos show this. picked up car today, stalled again at the end of the day. again, on video. called jeep to complain. customer service told me jeep will be in contact. continually refused to provide me with an address to send my lemon law notification. jeep has acted as an obstacle to consumers rights. in sum, the car is unsafe to drive. it stalls while driving. jeep is not helping.
My wife was on her way to work for the last day before christmas and got 2 blocks from the house before calling for help. the vehicle lost power and luckily she was able to get off of the road. it was rainy both the day before and that morning also. she said there was a message that came up saying shift into park and start the car. she couldn't get it to start again. i met her and after trying, got the car going but noticed that i didn't feel any response or hear any engine revving when pushing the gas pedal down. it also seemed to start fairly rough. she took my vehicle to work. i checked the vehicle later and it started ok. the battery voltage was the normal 12.6v and 14.7v when running. at first i thought it was a fluke. the next day as the vehicle wouldn't start. we decided to wait until fri morning with christmas being thurs. the vehicle did start before the flatbed towed it off to the dealer. the dealer had the vehicle all day and was about ready for me to pick it up when they noticed a loss in pressure at the fuel pump and decided to replace it. after we got the vehicle back it ran ok for a few days but then on 1/3/2015 it cut out again about two blocks from our house in the other direction.. it was again rainy outside. she again saw the same message. i met her and got it started again but also again noticed no reaction to stepping on the gas pedal. when i shifted it into reverse it then seemed to react to giving it gas fine and drove home ok. we took it to church and around town the next day and it seemed fairly normal. having gone through rough shifting problems with this vehicle early and two transmission problems with chrysler grand voyagers and then this jeep and the articles on this site that seem to be pointing to jeep transmissions i think chrysler better come up with the right fix very soon before someone gets killed. *tr
While driving the vehicle the instrument panel starting running a check system cycle, ie. transmission service needed, anti-lock brake need service, battery needed to be checked, mil was on, etc. (i have video of one occurrence) and i was no longer able to accelerate the car even though the engine was still running. the electronic parking brake was engaged and i could not disengage it. after the car slowed down i turned the engine off and on several times until i was able to accelerate the car. the mil was now on steadily. this has happened 4 times now. *tr
On 12/19/14 while driving, my veh stalled without warning. there was no warning lights illuminated before, during/after its failure. i had to have the car towed. after inspection, i was told that the engine of my new jeep was burning oil. the jeep recently had been in for an oil change & rtd with the multi point inspection paperwork indicating everything was ok. herb chambers, although diagnosising the jeep to be "burning oil" insisted, at the direction of chrysler protocol, that i drive it 5,000 miles and return it for further inspect. only after my husband got involved did they keep the car, drive it, and eventually install a new engine. on 5/6/2015 the jeep lost power descending a hill. the check transmission light illuminated. the vehicle was returned home & driven to herb chamber. after inspt the jeep now needed a new transmission. according to jeep, the transmission has an internal leak. again, 3 wks earlier, the car was at the dealership for tire rotation and oil change. the mulit point inspection, indicated all fluids, incd the trans fluid was ok. while the jeep was being fixed, i also expressed concern over rubbing noise when turning. new bushings were placed into the jeep. we have sent emails & made phone calls to chrysler and have not heard back. we are driving a new veh that has proven unsafe and unreliable w/o any remedy from the mfgr. i would like other jeep owners to be aware of the reoccurring probs with this jeep. i believe the release of the jeep was delayed due to transmission problems & that possibly is/was a recall (of which we were never notified). i also believe the axel/bushings is a recall (again one we were never notified of) nor would it have been repaired if we did not request it be checked. chrysler has not made any effort to remedy this situation. on all occassions, we the consumer, had to reach out to them.
While driving down the interstate at 70 mph the electronic transmission disengaged and the vehicle started decelerating to a stop.. luckily the traffic was light and i was able to pull off to the shoulder before coming to a stop. the vehicle did not roll , it started slowing as if braking., i was lucky to not be rear ended, there was no for warning and probably no brake lights. i feel the vehicle is unsafe to drive and want to know why it just shut down at 70 miles per hour, it may have resulted in a serious accident if the traffic hadn't been so light. articles on the internet indicate the launch of the vehicle was delayed by transmission faults. i believe it was put into production faulty. please investigate. *tr
I was traveling on the freeway during rush hour traffic in the left lane, traffic was stop and go. traffic slowed down, once traffic started moving again i stepped on the gas but the car would not accelerate, it would not respond at all. i looked at the dash board and a service transmission message appeared on the screen. i also had a (p)! light on but the parking brake was not on. i tried turning the car off and turning it back on and the car jerked very strongly because i was in traffic i thought someone had hit me but it was my car that had shaken very violently. i put it in neutral it roll just a bit and then would not move the car would not move at all. chp had to tow me off the freeway. after a day at the dealer, we were told it was a bad connection between the computer and the transmission and that the car was now fixed. i was lucky no one hit me while i was stuck in the middle of the freeway and that my kids were not in the car. i drive on the freeway all the time, the car is less than a year old and i am very afraid to drive this car. after reading other similar cases i feel this is a major safety issue with this type of car and that someone (ntsb) should review transmission issues with these cars further. *tr
Again, i just got back the car from the dealership at around 4pm (12/3). the work order says that they have changed/replaced the adaption part of the car to re-learn to drive. so, i drove it home. around 510pm, in the middle of the rain the car stopped again. luckily again, that im not in the freeway.the same thing, the car stopped and the dashboard gave me a message to shift gear and the car started to shake/jitter. i called the tow truck and they towed it again to the glendale dealership. this is the 4th time that it happen, with the same problem. i am risking my life and my family's life. please help! *tr
I purchased my brand new 2014 jeep cherokee with 30 miles. after about 1500 miles it began shifting very hard in low gears jerking , it red lines extremely hard to where it will jolt the jeep and when i come to a stop it would begin raise rpms and accelerate. it would scare me senseless. i took it to the dealership they said that's how it performs and made me leave. 400 miles later the transmission completely blew out going 50 in la traffic. it was on back order for a month. since then i have taken it in 8 times for the same problem a few times they have updated the tcm now they are saying there is no codes and they cannot duplicate it, even though it does it every single time. the jeep will not know what gear to shift and leave me stranded in intersections before it shifts and peels out. when i break it'll pick up speed it is extremely unsafe and unreliable. jeep has no fix for it and will not buy it back nor compensate me in anyway this isn't right and they should be forced to buy these be back. last weekend i took it on a trip going downhill at 60 mph 2000 rpm i tapped the break and the jeep revved to 5000 rpms also my horn is he hardest horn to push ever it does not work. the service department said its a little harder than normal but they cannot replace it since it doesn't give a code .everyone and their mother is concerned and complains about this issue. one day this thing is going to get me in a wreck. i paid good money for this vehicle i just want something safe and reliable for my family. i wish jeep chrysler however it is would just do the right thing.
This is the 3rd time it happened. my previous odi # 16038484. while driving out of the parking lot the car just stopped and the car screen has a message to shift the gear. i did that and the car shakes/jitter. the parking attendant helped me to push the car on the side.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving at approximately 20 mph, the engine stalled without warning. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, but the diagnostic results were unknown. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 2,000.
I received a phone call from my wife who was on her way home from work at approximately 1825hrs. she went on to explain to me that her vehicle was "acting" up again with all the same symptoms as last time (first incident has already been submitted under same information). she lost a significant amount of power while traveling on a busy highway where the speed posted is 65mph. when this happened she pulled off to shoulder and took photographs with her iphone to keep for our records and to what her dash was displaying. she stopped while on the shoulder and put the vehicle in park and turned off the ignition. after some time she turned the ignition on and put the vehicle in drive when she noticed the vehicle "jerked" and made a loud clunky noise. this is the second incident. the first incident dealership was unable to find any problems under the diagnostics they ran. *tr
On my way to work one morning, i was driving on a three-lane highway, going roughly 73 mph when suddenly, as i was attempting to maintain my current speed 'consistent with traffic flow 'my vehicle would not enable me to accelerate. during my inability to accelerate, my vehicles electrical system surged, illuminating my check engine light, traction control light, and cabin lights. as a result, in order to remain uninjured, i crossed three lanes of moderately congested traffic, and turned my vehicle off for approximately 5-7 mins. upon starting my car, i was able to accelerate; however, both lights were lit on my dashboard. after driving 130 plus miles, i immediately drove to the dealership i purchased my vehicle from'they conducted tests; resulting in a computer glitch. the dealership addressed this by clearing the transmission control module. this answer was very unsatisfactory to me as i purchased this vehicle brand new in june 2014 with less than 100 miles. therefore, i contacted the manufacture and sought assistance. since, i have been asked to make an appointment with 2 different dealerships, totaling 4 service visits 'all inclusive. over all, i am extremely upset and unsatisfied. buying a new vehicle with transmission issues and or computer issues is not ideal or expected. now, i am slightly paranoid every time i drive my vehicle 'hoping i will be alive to retell both the dealership and manufacture this problem has been duplicated. *tr
Second incident for this car. first incident was 10.18.14. i was parking car at a restaurant. while edging near ending point of parking space, park sense suddenly disabled and would not enable. immediately therefore, a series of icons appeared on the dashboard in this order: 1) red lightening bolt for the etc, 2) front end collision light like i had a wreck, 3) engine light, 4) traction light. the power steering appeared very stiff. car was still running. drove car out of parking space and it would not accelerate; it moved at a very slow pace like it was stuck in molasses or quick sand. placed car in park and turned off ignition. while shifting from d to p, the shift was so violent it shook the entire car and i could hear grinding. let car rest for 60-90 seconds. turned car back on and only the engine light remained lit. power steering was not stiff. drove car to dealership the next morning. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle decelerated as the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was no repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 5,400.
Car makes a whistling very loud whistling noise upon startup and continues for up to 5 minutes, evening last while driving. i have taken the car to the dealership 3 times for this issue, was told the first times that it was the bearings? (they were replaced). noise still occurring, took it back to the dealership and they replaced the pulleys, noise still heard. next, i was told the water pump was causing the noise, it was replaced but noise still occurring. now, i am told the noise is coming from the alternator and they will replace that part. i am concerned about the true source of the noise and whether or not it will have a major affect on the engine later on. *tr
2014 jeep cherokee wrangler 2.4l 4wd. vehicle shuts down completely during driving operation. this has happened off and on since last fall (2014). happens multiple times during commute, including when engine is first warming up and when vehicle has travelled for some distance. some days it does not occur at all. engine temperature seems to have no relation to incidents. speed has no relation as it has occurred at 5mph up to 65mph. ambient temperature has no relationship as the temp has varied from 0 to 80 degrees f. took to chrysler dealership shop on 12/30/14 - chrysler dealership shop did not find cause but did update bcm based on tsb. problem continues to occur. 5/20/15 - 2015 jeep cherokee back in shop for same issue.
On the above date while traveling to work my wife called me and informed that her vehicle had lost power during operation on a busy highway. upon further explanation she informed me while accelerating to the proper speed for the posted speed limit of 55mph the vehicle had lost power and the "service transmission" light illuminated. she then pulled off the busy road to a safe a spot and proceeded to contact our insurance and the local jeep/chrysler dealership, as we are currently under warranty. once i arrived to my wife's location we waited for the tow truck and upon his arrival he asked if the vehicle could be driven, at this time i turned on the vehicle and placed it in drive, the "service transmission" light was still on. i was able to drive in approximately 3 miles to the dealership all awhile being followed by the tow truck and without incident. *tr
The transmission on this vehicle makes it very dangerous!! surging, hesitation, speeding up, hard shifts continually. the transmission was replaced and it was serviced many times with no improvements. when you try to pull out onto a road, it will hard shift into gear after hesitation, it does the same when backing up. it causes a very dangerous situation and i have almost been hit by another vehicle many times due to the transmission issues. the headlights on this vehicle are dangerous, they follow a severe straight line and when going up and down hills it causes you to lose vision of the road in front of you.
The car is only 5 months old. has a zf 9 speed automatic transmission and 3.2l 46 24v -vvt engine. i was driving on a tollway in moderate traffic at a speed of approximately 60-65 mph. without slowing down or changing speed, the display on the dash listed "service transmission". all power to the engine was lost and car began to slow down. would not respond to acceleration. check engine light, stability control light, p! were all displayed. had to find a way to the shoulder and stop car. turned off car and restarted it. "check transmission " was displayed. put it in drive and it felt like it was starting in 2nd or 3rd gear. would not shift gears. could get up to 35 mph with the tach at 2000 rpm. would not shift at all. got home and let car sit for a few hours. started car after sitting for a few hours and the "service transmission" was gone. all other warning lights were gone except for service engine light. drove to dealer next day and car appeared to shift ok. dealer loaded pcm flash update. reprogrammed tcm per tsb 21-018-14. reprogrammed rf hub per 08-077-14. car appears to be driving ok. dealer said they couldn't find any problems with the transmission. they treated this very lightly . i feel this is a significant safety issue. lost all acceleration and control at high speed. no notification of updates were sent previously. *tr
While driving, when i take my foot off the gas pedal in order to coast, the car will accelerate. while driving, when i take my foot off the gas and begin to brake, my car will accelerate. this has been happening since i purchased the vehicle on oct 30, 2014. it was a minimal occurrence and would come and go, but now it occurs every single time i drive the car. this daily issue where my vehicle accelerates when it should not has been going on since approximately mid-late november 2014. *js
Since getting this vehicle in oct. 2014 we have had nothing but problems with it. the car switches gears when it shouldn't and lunges forward. also when you slow down to stop the car lurches and shakes before coming to a complete stop. sometimes you can feel the pedal pumping under your foot when you are moving slowly in traffic. whenever you are going up any type of hill the engine sounds like it is going to explode. we have taken it to the dealership where we purchased it numerous times and continue to just be told that it is a known issue with 2014 jeep cherokee's. there is also a clicking noise by the tires whenever your make a turn. we also took it to the dealership for this and they claim they didn't notice anything. it sounds like the wheel is going to fall off! we should not have these problems with a car that has less than 20,000 miles on it! i cannot wait to get rid of this jeep. i've had older cars in the past and had not nearly the amount of problems as i have had with this jeep. it doesn't feel safe to drive. jeep is well aware of this issue yet they continue to do nothing about it.
At a highway cruising speed, when the gas pedal is released and the car is allowed to decelerate itself without pressing the brake, at certain downshifts the car will experience a jump in engine rpm of 1000 and the car will lurch forward and accelerate on its own. this is especially dangerous when going around curves or if there were ice on the road or the car were hydroplaning. chrysler jeep has not released a fix or a recall for this issue and it is being said that it is normal for the transmission to do this. i believe it is a dangerous condition with high potential for accidents unless fixed. *tr
While parking the vehicle, the parksense feature disabled on its own. immediately thereafter, the red lightning bolt indicator light appeared on the dash, which has been known to be associated with the electronic throttle control, glow plugs, swirl motor failure (low pressure in rail or fuel rail pressure malfunction) and also speed sensors. the vehicle then revved up on its own without acceleration while my foot was positioned firmly on the brake pedal. immediately following that, the word "transmission" appeared on the dash, then the check engine light, then the collision indicator as if a car crash had occurred, which it had not. finally, the power steering became very stiff. drove the vehicle to the dealership it was purchased from and they said the codes were unknown like hieroglyphics. left vehicle there. the following monday the dealership informed me there were 3 software upgrades that were needed on the vehicle, however, those upgrades did not correct the problem. technician also informed me the car was not safe to drive and they didn't feel safe driving it themselves and got off of the highway during a test run. the technician further explained the vehicle had 3 test runs and failed all 3 and it was beyond their expertise so chrysler engineers would be consulted this week. lastly, the technician informed me i "may be ahead of a recall issue." the car is 5 and half months old. i ordered the car, meaning, i had it made/built from the manufacturer. it was not a car purchased from the lot. therefore, no other drivers of the car and it is brand new. it is a safety concern, especially since the cherokee has been out of production for many years until the 2014 release. as a side note, i remember an incident that occurred the week prior when the vehicle had difficulty shifting gears (automatic transmission). instead it stalled and revved on its own. *tr
2014 jeep cherokee. consumer writes in regards to transmission problems. *smd the consumer stated on october 7, 2014 as she pulled out onto the highway, the vehicle stalled. she managed to drift to the side of the road. she let the vehicle sit for a minute and then re-started it. she bean to drive and the vehicle began to buck and lost power. she pulled over for a second time and let it sit for a minute, attempted to re-start it which was successful, but she couldn't go over 25 mph. she drove to the dealer. the dealer kept the vehicle for a week. a diagnostic test revealed a problem with the transmission. one month later, as she was pulling out onto the main road, the vehicle lost power again. she managed to get the vehicle to the dealer. a diagnostics test revealed the vehicle shut off, due to low oil. the consumer claimed the vehicle wasn't scheduled for an oil changed for another 1,000 miles. the dealer advised the consumer to bring the vehicle back within 3,000 to see if the vehicle was burning oil. *jb
At freeway speed of 65, the vehicle suddenly had no power, went into neutral, and "service transmission" warning came on. upon trying to accelerate to pull to the shoulder, the engine would simply rev rpms but provided no power, even after trying to shift between neutral and drive. after getting to the side of the road, the vehicle was shut off and turned back on, at which time the service transmission light was still on, but the vehicle worked again. the dealer replaced the entire transmission under warranty but provided no explanation of why it suddenly lost all power on the freeway and could have easily caused a wreck when trying to get over several lanes on a busy freeway. *tr
The vehicle stopped and engine was dead while driving on the freeway. it is the third time within a month, one week after the second time repaired at the dealership. *tr
Hard shifts, odd shift points, hesitates and lurches into gear
When driving at highway speeds (68 mph) and slowing down, the gears on the 2014 jeep cherokee downshifted, resulting in an increase in speed, despite pressure being applied to the brakes. this occurs with the automatic transmission when braking change gears from 4th to 5th gear. the shift into 4th gear is followed immediately by a 500+ rpm increase in the engine. if heavy, consistent pressure is not applied to the brake, the car will accelerate 1-2 mph. if heavy, consistent pressure is applied to the brake, the car shifts violently and the car "lurches" forward due to the increase in rpm. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while the vehicle was parked and started, the engine idled up and down and caused the rpms to increase and decrease. during the failure, the check engine and transmission sensors illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 2,200.
Similar to what occurred with the other posts, on saturday my car stalled while at a stop sign. disabled, the engine light and the service transmission indicator came on the dashboard. following the advice of some helpful gentlemen, i was able to get the car home. on sunday, i took the car to the dealer and the diagnostic test reportedly stated it was the transmission and then a subsequent call identified the issue as an electrical issue. i picked the repaired car up as directed and then the car stalled. i was almost rear-ended as the car was disabled with the hazard lights. i managed to coast the car into a parking lot by using the advice of the gentlemen and then called the dealer, this is the second time the car abruptly stalled. this time it would not start for me to pull into a parking space. i was asked to drive the car back to the dealer, i refused. after speaking to the general manager of sales, the dealer sent two people to bring the car back and the person driving my car stated it stalled twice but he knew how to get the car going. monday i missed worked, tuesday they provided a rental, today i picked up the car, and tonight i am in a dealer's rental that will need to be exchanged for another rental tomorrow. this has been a taxing experience that is not expected for a car that was purchased new at the end of april. this is my second jeep but from what i am reading, there is something wrong with this car that needs immediate attention. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving approximately 10 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to restart the vehicle, but there was an abnormal noise and the vehicle shook. the vehicle failed to accelerate over 20 mph. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 10,100.
I was driving on the expressway doing 60mph. i merged into left lane and began to accelerate to speed limit. reached 65mph and transmission stalled and threw my vehicle into neutral. i had to pull over onto the shoulder to turn off vehicle and restart. check engine light remained on as well as message to check transmission. after returning it to the dealership twice, the same thing happened again on 9/22/14 with mileage at 1195. *tr
My car will shift hard in reverse, sometimes into drive, and also from 1st gear into 2nd gear. also, when turning, and trying to accelerate, i notice the car feels like it is in slow motion and does not accelerate, even if i am stepping hard on the pedal. i have also noticed that the car will not shift into higher gears when climbing in elevation. many times i have been driving up in elevation, and will be stuck in 4th gear unable to shift to a higher gear. the problem all seems to revolve around this new 9 speed transmission. i have taken to the dealership, and they have checked the computer to find nothing. i am updated on all of my recalls. i was told next time, "i should buy a v6" by the dealership.
