Transmission acting erratically. transmission will shift hard into 2nd and 3rd gear. when coming to stop it will downshift in a rough matter. some times it bangs but is only intermittently. the transmissions works fine on the freeway will work fine only noticeable on city driving. i have taken for repairs and software update several times to the point that i got frustrated and stop calling the dealer. the 36k warranty expired in december 2016.

Vehicle has always had a lurching forward motion when it goes into gear from a stopped position. we bought it in 2015 with 14000 miles on it. in early october husband was out of town with the car and the service engine light came on. took it to dealership and was told it needed an update to the computer system that runs the engine area. drove for one evening and left town for a week. first time car was driven after that week vehicle service engine light was on again. upon backing out of the driveway it lurched forward and ran into the curb. drove vehicle home and took to the local jeep dealership immediately. kep overnight before they said it needed a new transmission. they kept vehicle for a week and we picked it up on a wednesday afternoon. by thursday evening every time we take off the car shakes and lurches getting into gear. have an appointment to take back to the dealership on monday.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle jerked, stalled, and the transmission warning indicator illuminated. the contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road. the vehicle was able to be restarted after the first attempt, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was towed to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v529000 (power train). the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the contact mentioned that this was the fourth time that the failure occurred. the failure mileage was approximately 13,000.

The jeep stalls while in motion. the vehicle lurches/jerks forward around 8 miles per hour and 30 miles per hour.

I had been driving my vehicle all night when all of the sudden out of no where the transmission service came onto my screen on the dash and my jeep lost power and the brakes locked up and said that i need to service the brakes and the transmission. at the time this happened i was just starting to come to a complete stop at the light. this is really dangerous and needs to be reported that the transmission has failed or is not working correctly in this jeep. what is someone gets killed? *tr

3 transmission incidents when i have filled up with gas. after leaving the station the car has shifted into neutral and will not drive. the engine has sputtered and shut off. there are transmission warnings "service transmission to shift vehicle must be stopped" on my display. also my malfunction indicator light, electronic throttle control and avoidance disabled are illuminated. when car is re-started there is a sudden almost violent jerking forward motion or engine ideals slowly and can stall out. this will be my third service call on for my transmission and i am feeling like i have a serious problem that could cause an accident, putting me and my family in harms way.

Chryslter recall 3 s55 recall repair is taking too long to complete! i'm a heart patient and my wife has parkinson's and we have to trave over a mountain pass to see doctors. we feel unsafe in this car. we can not r]trade due to the length of the recall!

Same or similar problem with 2014 jeep cherokee transmission: after car was bought new had a couple of situations where jeep's dashboard display would all of a sudden while driving error(service transmission, must put car in park and restart)vehicle would be in limp mode had to coast to side of road and restart car, would bang while going into and out of gears... dealer changed the tcm(transmission control module 5/16) but gave me no paperwork stating such, just verbal.. same error again on 6/11/16, again on 7/29/16 and again on 10/19/16...error on display, car goes in limp mode, have to coast and restart...although,after a few engine shut off and restarts service error disappears...seems to happen mostly at speeds less than 55mph..will have to continue to pursue with dealer..... *tr

The transmission has an issue with jerking between shifts, both up and down. i have taken it in to be fixed at least 5 times and also a recall. it still has the problem and apparently cannot be fixed.

2014 jeep cherokee transmission jerks. took it to the dealer and they claim it's working as intended because it's a new technology. this transmission jerks and is very sluggish. i almost had an accident turning left at a busy intersection. the car did not want to accelerate. luckily incoming traffic slowed down enough for me to pass. i fail to believe that this is normal and also fail to believe that there's nothing the dealer can do. apparently there are thousands of other cherokee owners with the same problem. add me to the list. any suggestions on what else i can do?

My 2014 jeep cherokee lost forward gears without warning. i was stopped and tried to pull out on a busy intersection. i lost all forward power limped forward 10 feet and stopped. route 51 in jefferson borough is a major 4 lane and this could have caused a major accident. i had to reverse to safety. there is a known recall that jeep is refusing to fix. they are putting peoples lives in danger with a sub standard transmission. i want jeep to be held accountable for the entire transmission system and not just the parts they deem in their internal selection. if it supports a transmission they should stand behind their product and build it correctly. safety should be a concern and obviously it isn't. my jeep is less than 2 years old, i've complained multiple times about hard shifting to the dealer and all they did was adjust the shift points. now my life is in danger because of their safety issue. jeep needs to fix this known issue in all jeeps and not just a select few. pleasant hills jeep should be revoked as a 5 star dealer and jeep should be forced to stop production of this substandard transmission.

My transmission has been jerking during gear shift since i bought the car. on the expressway traveling 75 mph in a high traffic area when my transmission completely quit and would not shift out of neutral. i lost speed rapidly and luckily i was unable to get to the side of the expressway without causing an accident.

I have had my vehicle in every 5000 miles complaining of "hard" transmission shifts, and the vehicle lunging forward when applying brakes to stop the vehicle. transmission does not react when you are at a stop and apply the gas, motor on the vehicle will rev up and then eventually the transmission will kick in. i have had the vehicle into (3) different mopar dealers and all of them give me some song and dance about "updates" the updates are done and the vehicle still does not shift correctly. this vehicle is going to kill someone because of the transmission lunging forward when you are coming to a stop.

On october 10, 2016, i was driving on an access road next to a highway when my car lost motive power. i was driving at approximately 40mph and i did not have enough time to pull over from the lane i was in. my dashboard kept flashing "service transmission" and also to "put the car in park and re-start." for ten minutes, i attempted to re-start the vehicle and begin driving again. each time i would try to put the car in drive, there was a very loud racket sound from shifting and i had to put the car back in park. finally, on the sixth attempt, i was able to shift into drive without the sound and i immediately drove my car home. i am disheartened as this was a purchase of a used vehicle only a few days prior, on october 8, 2016, that had only 30,000 miles. needless to say, my car is already at my local jeep dealership for repair, and not much reassurance with regards to the associated recall, as parts are not ready yet. this was intended to be a family vehicle, but if it stops while driving, it will render my family completely unsafe. the s55 recall concerns a poorly designed wiring harness, that causes the computer to shift the vehicle into neutral while driving. nhtsa recall number: 16v529 recall date: august 22, 2016 manufacturer recall number: s55

Takata recall car bucking when shifting into gear. also there was a knocking noise when driving at different speeds and when turning the wheel or going over bumps. it got so bad that it sounded like my tire was going to fall off or the underneath of my car. also my car was shaking when it would hit a bump. there was also a whining noise that would occur when i turned my wheel either way. this problem has been occurring for almost two years now, everytime i brought it back to the dealer they stated that my "car was fine" was not until i brought it to another mechanic that they told me it was my front passenger wheel ball joint. this would occur while the car was on the highway or side roads, as long as the car was in motion. also my car would have problems when shifting. the car bucked on my on the highway when i was going 65 the car lights started flashing and i got warning lights stating to put car into desired gear, check oil and transmission. i pulled into the break down lane and put the car in park. turned the car on and off & the same thing happened. *tr

Transaxle wire harness s55. would not start .took 5 attempts to start.in the middle of indiana with no dealer within 50 miles on a sunday afternoon.

Driving at full speed on the highway the transmission suddenly disengaged, which led to redlining the rpms, because it failed to give me any control of throttle/acceleration. i had to get over and coast to the side of the road. the "service transmission" note came on the screen as well as check engine light. the transmission slammed a few times as if it were unable to find its gear. i have it at a dealership now, apparently being told flashing it may fix the issue...however, that doesn't make me feel better with how the vehicle acted or if any damage occurred due to this "computer" issue. this is our family vehicle, so having some major doubts right now.

Car randomly stops moving while driving, sometimes while turning a corner. seems like it turns itself off, but lights on dash are still on. i'm not really sure what causes it and am hoping that it will be resolved once they have a solution to the current recall for the transaxle wire harness. have brought it to dealer a few times and they keep telling us it has to do with the 20% oil life. i don't see how that would make a car turn off. and why would they make a car that needs to have the oil changed before the oil life is up or at all.

Service transmission came on while in motion. the vehicle came to a complete while in motion.11

2014 jeep cherokee. consumer writes in regards to several times vehicle automatically shifts into neutral and shut completely down- no brake or acceleration response. *smd the consumer stated his daughter was traveling at 45 mph, when the vehicle locked in neutral. *jb

The past four years i have experienced multiple issues and safety concerns with this vehicle. the vehicle unexpectedly shifts into neutral, lurches forward and even stalls out. multiple times i have been unable to restart the car.this has happened on highways, back roads residential streets. it is vey unpredictable. the steering wheel locks up. i have had it towed to the dealership and have brought it in multiple times. i always get the same response. "we can not duplicate your concerns.'now all of a sudden there is an actual recall for the complaints i have been reporting for years. i have had two cases with chrysler jeep, however they do not seem to understand that four years of dealing with an unsafe car is a complete joke. the car is in the shop again. i do not have any confidence that this issue will be resolved.

Car will slip into neutral with no warning and the engine goes into idle. this has happened six times including while exiting the freeway almost causing me to be rear ended. jeep is aware of the issue and has issued recall s55. they have no fix and they don't know when one will be available. the mopar support reps agree this is very dangerous but will not provide a loaner or rental because they don't know how long before a fix will be available. this car has become very scary to drive and i am getting no help from the dealer or from jeep.

After purchasing the new 2014 jeep cherokee latitude, i noticed that it had a rough time shifting. the transmission would shift violently from 2nd to 3rd gear and anytime you would stop on an incline. we have had all the necessary recalls done to the vehicle but it has continued to have the same problem. when communicating this issue to the dealership all i get is that we are not used to the 9 gear transmission and we need to get used to it. i will be taking it in for the fourth time to see if they can fix it. on a second note i have also had the vehicle taken in to the shop to see why the vehicle suddenly shuts off. this has also happened to us on several occasions, but when i take it to the dealership they tell me there is nothing wrong. this is a huge safety issue and concerns me. this would be a disaster if it happens to die when i am on the highway. i am very disappointed with this vehicle and more so with the way i am treated when i take it to the dealership. there is something seriously wrong with this vehicle and it needs to be addressed before people get injured.

While driving straight on a two-lane highway, the transmission shifted itself into neutral and all forward power was gone. the gearshift lever could be moved, but would not put the car back into any gear. we turned on emergency flashers, put the gearshift in park, shut off the car. we re-started the car after a short period, and it then went back into gear. fortunately, there was no one behind us when this happened. had there been, it could easily have caused an accident. if it happened on an expressway, this could cause a fatal crash! we relayed this to a jeep dealer in mesa, az. it is assumed to be related to your safety recall 16v-529. there are others talking about this on line. please, get the manufacturer moving to fix this problem before someone gets hurt or killed. *tr

1.) vehicle shifts into neutral without notice while actively driving and shifter column indicates "drive". 2.) parking break engages without warning or physical activation. dealership refuses to identify issue.

Transmission failure display on the dash. the car would not move after being put in reverse.the car was stationary in the garage. this the second time this happened. the car has been towed to the dealer twice . the transmission is doing the same thing as the first time . i am afraid to go on any trips because the car is not reliable . mileage on the vehicle is 11,000.the vehicle is presently on a recall for the problems with the transaxle wire harness.s55/nhtsa 16v-529.the transmission jerks and hesitates on starts.

Car leased december 2013. in august of 2016 service 4wd light came on. was dismissed multiple times by dealer. car purchased september 2016. light on again and was told transmission failure. transmission replaced april 2018. after replacement car continued to jerk, shift loudly, shift itself when turned on. dealer refused to service. now going into arbitration with fcs.

On two separate occasions, both while reversing and driving the car forward, a message has suddenly appeared on my dash forcing my car to be put in park, that the car is not able to be in drive, and the transmission needs serviced. after this event, the check engine light appears on my dash for at least a couple of hours and then disappears.

I was driving on interstate 75 and my vehicle came to a sudden complete stop luckily it was heavy traffic so i was not going very fast. the display said service transmission and it would not shift to drive after a few minutes and turning the vehicle off it worked but now check engine light is on.

This vehicle has been serviced 2 times since i have owned it due to loss of motive power. now i am receiving a recall for an issue that could cause the same type of motive power loss and potential crash without warning. i travel significant miles every day with this vehicle and with my children. this is putting lives at risk and i am significantly concerned about this recall. i called a jeep dealership today and was told it could be months before this is corrected as parts are not even manufactured yet for this issue.

2014 jeep cherokee trailhawk 9 spd transmission has been reprogrammed multiple times and transmission replaced once by dealer and chrysler - also paid $5000 for extended warranty. a dangerous problem still exists with no resolution at 45,000 miles. nothing the dealer can do to keep transmission from violent actions shifting or delayed freewheeling shifting with loud banging lurches.there were two very dangerous near-wrecks when car just rolled out in front of oncoming traffic before "bang-accelerate" - several second delay before transmission shifted. yield signs are dangerous in traffic you have to come to a full stop and wait several seconds, risking rear-end collisions and angry honking from others coming to fast stops. the alternative is to pause, then accelerate with the transmission freewheeling for a second or two before catching as if you revved the engine and then popped the clutch on an old standard transmission. that is if you are lucky, and it doesn't take longer while you roll out into traffic without it accelerating. also, multiple times, it felt like the car being hit when i took my foot off the accelerator and tapped brake to slow then accelerate.the transmission free-wheeled, then shifted into an unknown gear - same pop-the-clutch reaction as the brake is released. it also does these things occasionally in reverse pulling out of driveway. the transmission doesn't seem to ever know the speed changed while it was thinking about which gear it should use. i have had to drive to specifically avoid such incidents since i've had the car. each time in, the dealer says it was designed that way and will learn to operate better after a hundred miles or so - not. i'm parking it until resolution, driving 2007 kia w/over 104,000 miles. much safer for the grand-kids, we take care of 40 hours a week. There have been several recalls on my vehicle since purchasing it almost 2 years ago. i've had to be inconveniently placed in a rental a couple times and pay a deposit out of pocket for something that wasn't even my fault. i contacted the dealer days after purchasing it to express my dissatisfaction, they were very unhelpful. one month after purchasing it is when i started needing to get the vehicle serviced several times. this latest recall, i have reached out to the dealer and the "earliest" appointment isn't until november. i called nhtsa customer service today to see if they could "speed up the process" but they too were very unhelpful. the person i spoke with expressed that the parts needed to fix this recall were all sold out and she wasn't sure when the parts would be coming in. now, i am stuck in an unsafe, faulty vehicle until it can get serviced to this recall. in the safety recall notice it states in bold, "the loss of motive power could cause a crash without warning." driving this vehicle in the condition that it's in and the potential safety hazard is life threatening. what exactly am i supposed to do now? i use this vehicle everyday and i am not the only passenger in it. i've contacted nhtsa before and submitted documentation of all the services the vehicle has had, and nothing was resolved on my behalf. i'm surprised legal action hasn't been presented to the manufacturer for these recalls and poor quality vehicles.

We purchased a 2014 jeep cherokee limited, 4wd w/active drive 2 in january 2014. when we purchased this vehicle, we traded in a gmc terrain. we were certain that the jeep was going to be a fantastic purchase, knowing the reputation of jeep. we have had nothing but what i'd call serious problems with the transmission. every time i take it in for an oil change, i mention it, and they do "software updates." each software update that has been done has not corrected the problem still. all it's done is created a different problem. there have now been 5 recalls on this vehicle, 1 of which hasn't been taken care of yet because jeep hasn't come up with a replacement part, so i'm stuck with a rental renegade that is nowhere near comparable to my cherokee limited 4wd, for an "unspecified amount of time." my steering column makes a grinding noise louder than a 40 year old truck. the dealership told me that it was a normal sound. no vehicle i've ever driven has sounded like this, especially one that cost me $40,000!!!

About 8 months after i got my jeep cherokee 2014, i had a recall done on my car. four days later i was driving to disney world (about a 12 hour drive) when i was trying to put the gear into park when my car started jerking and wouldn't let me put the car into park. i tried to restart the car and nothing worked. then after the 5th time it finally would go into park. i let the car rest over night and restarted it in the morning when my transmission light came on. i ended up getting it "fixed" down in flordia and had to take time and money out of the vacation to fix it. then two years later, i got another recall done and exactly four days later the same jerking happened when i tried to put it into gear to drive. the transmission came on again. then my mother went to pick it up from the dealership after it was "fixed" only to have the car not start for her. a week later they called to say that they replaced the transmission. i tried to tell fiat chrysler automobiles about the issues and get an extended warranty on the transmission but the manager has never returned my calls. i feel the car has lost it's value and is unsafe for drivers. just wondering how long this transmission will last for.

While driving up a parking garage ramp transmission went out causing jeep to roll back down ramp until brakes applied. all warning lights came on. let jeep set for a few moments, shut engine off, and when restarted was able to move it to a safe area, but transmission shifted hard, jarring the jeep. next morning when started, jeep ran fine, but check engine light was on. took jeep to dealer to get checked, was told 4 new recalls on it including transmission issue. not sure if this issue is related to current recall on the transmission or not.
