My 2000 honda shut down while driving on the freeway in 2010, restarted right away. when i took it to my mechanic he couldn't find anything wrong. since then it has done it about 10 times, a few times when cold starting but usually in summer when air temperature is very hot. my mechanic has kept it over a weekend to see if he could get the car to fail starting, but no luck. i am afraid to take it on a long trip even though it has only 129,300 miles on it.

I backed my 2000 honda accord sedan uphill into my garage, took the key out of the ignition and started to go into my house when i heard a strange noise. when i turned around the honda was rolling downhill towards my neighbors house, it stopped short of hitting my neighbors house by some shrubs and a small tree. no serious damage happened. i still had the key in my hand and when i checked the honda the transmission was in reverse. i tried several times to remove the key in each gear and i was able to remove the key in every position. i took the honda to a local dealer and they said no recall was on my honda for that problem and that i had no recourse except to have it repaired on my own. i always heard safety recalls never expired but i guess i was misinformed. i located an nhtsa recall campaign number: 05v025000 that stated honda accord 1999-2002 ignition key interlock (the key can be taken out of the ignition in any gear and the car could roll and a crash could occur). possibly causing damage or death? *tr
When the battery was replaced, the asr light turns on. *tr
I recently took my car to honda with problems accelerating up a hill and sometime on flat land and they told me i needed a new transmission at a cost of $4300. i asked to speak with a service manager because i only take my car to honda to be serviced and now all of a sunden i need a new transmission. well the service manager told me the transmissions on the 2000 honda accord ex v6 were bad. this prompted me to go online and do research, and there were a whole lot of complaints. these complaints stated a lot of issues i had with my car when i first got it specifically i couldnt get my car to shift out of gear from park. my car broke down on me so much in the earlier years it was ridiculous. so i called honda to no avail since i felt my issues were covered up when i had a warranty with them. they said they couldnt help me im at 116,000 miles and they extended the mileage to 109,000 on their transmissions. i would say that this is bad business for honda. they should have done a recall. they sevice techs should have been more thorough. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. the contact stated that the vehicle was unable to start properly with the key in the ignition. the ignition would automatically switch to the off position and the key could be removed without the vehicle being shifted into park. the contact had to make numerous attempts to start the vehicle. the failure occurred several times. the manufacturer stated that the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 05v025000 (electrical system). the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 229,000.

On my honda accord 2000, i can remove the ignition key without switching the transmission to 'park'. i parked my car, and left the transmission on 'drive'. the car rolled down the slope and crashed into another car parked few yards away. the description of the recall 05v02500 (ignition-park interlock) matches exactly my car characteristics and the problem i am having with the interlock system. i called honda and they said that the recall does not apply to my vin. *tr
it is possible to turn the ignition key to the off position and remove the key without shifting the transmission to park. *tr
Vehicle's dashboard lights do not light up. the is an inconsistent problem, but it continues to be more frequent. the lights will go out while driving, then after turning off the vehicle, they may or may not light back up. was informed by a mechanic that a bulletin was issued that this was a big problem with hondas. a letter was sent to honda addressing this issue. *js
After going for a short drive my car will not restart. found out that the pcm is defective. the computer module need to be replaced. non are available. they are discontinued.
Dashboard light go out without notice and they turn back on at times. unable to see at night the speedometer. gears in car jerk while driving at all times from gear to gear, signs of sand like metal residue in transmission fluid when changed. i purchased the vehicle a little over a year ago and did not think much of it until it became worse and i began to research the possible issues. *tr
2000 v6 honda accord died without warning at a stoplight and since then it has become more frequent over shorter and shorter time periods/distances. during the first few several occurrences like this it just died either while stopped or while running but could be re-started by putting car into park gear and re-starting. no warning, no sputtering, no shaking and so on prior to any of the dying. the only indication it has died is the dash panel indicator lights would all be on as though the car was just being started. during re-start the dash panel lights would be lit like they should be just prior to starting. now as of yesterday the pattern has changed to still dies and the dash panel lights come on but when you shift to park and then try to re-start none of the dash panel lights come on and all you hear is the cranking of the engine but not starting. eventually after a few minutes (1-5 minutes) of being off you could then re-start the car and the dash panel lights would light up prior to the re-start like they should. unfortunately toward the end of yesterday that pattern again changed to where the lights would not come on during the attempt to re-start even after 40 minutes. i called honda on 06/18/2013 and spoke to an agent and told her that i believe this is the same issue that honda had a recall for dealing with the ignition switch under recall#:36754 in the usa and also another in canada for the identical issue my accord is demonstrating. honda seems to want to hid behind the idea that if my vin is not in the recall then i am out of luck. this is a life threatening driving condition the car dies while moving without warning. i am sure they are other owners with this same issue (web is full of owners decreeing this issue) that have just had car repaired but never filed report here to bring issue to your organization's attention. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. the contact stated that she entered a parking space, removed the key from the ignition and exited the vehicle. as she exited the vehicle, it began to roll away. the contact then realized that the vehicle was still in drive so she applied the brakes, restarted the vehicle and pulled shifted into park. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and stated that there were no recalls for the vehicle. the failure mileage was 195,000. .... updated 02-20-13 *bf the consumer stated there where recalls for vehicles that are the same make and models. the recall was dependent upon where the vehicle was manufactured. so the consumer's vehicle was not included in the recall. updated 02/25/2013 *js
Ignition switch does not block the removal of the ignition key when the vehicle isn't in park. i have parked my car, removed my key not realizing the car is in park, this caused my vehicle to roll which could have caused and accident or damage to property. there are previous recalls on the 2000 honda accord however honda advised that my vehicle is not part of the recall however it is having the same issue. previous recall campaign id number pe05002 as well as pe03014. *tr
The ignition kay be taken out while the car is not in parking gear. the keys can switch off the car engine while its in gear and going at a speed. its a safety concern. i spoke to honda and they would not honor this a s a safety recall. *tr
Air conditioner stopped working and all lights on hvac control panel went out. a small amount of smoke filled passenger compartment and temperature control knob became warm and loose. the plastic temperature control knob came off and i burned myself on the metal temperature control shaft which the knob attaches to. the metal temperature easily exceeded 300 degrees fahrenheit. once the car was parked and cooled down i removed the hvac control panel from the dash. the plastic is melted where the temperature control knob is and on the inside of the control panel. i removed the circuit board from the control panel and it smells like burned electronics. the circuit board has brown burn marks and bubbling on the board itself. the entire hvac control unit will have to replaced at the cost of $200-$300. *tr

My security system. sometimes the alarm will go off for no reason. sometimes the car locks itself, and often i attempt to start the car, nothing happens. usally after 3-4 hours i can start the car. this happens when the car is parked and has not bee driven that day. my alarm will go off sometimes when i am driving in the city. these problems have been on going since 2012. when i purchased the honda the paint job was perfect, within1 month all of the paint on the hood was gone, and now both front fenders are becoming infected
I spoke with a customer service representative by the name of [xxx] from american honda motor co., inc. on june 12, 2005 about an srs related problem relating to their technical service bulletin 06-009 dated february 5, 2008. i was told that the warranty has already expired because the vehicle is more than 10 years old even if the mileage is less than 124,000 miles. i am the second owner of the vehicle when it was purchased from a private party back in 2004. since these models came without an air conditioning unit, i had one installed the same year (2004) at the closest dealership near our place of residence. because of this service, they should have updated the ownership record for this vehicle to reflect my name as the new owner. when this bulletin came out, honda failed to furnish me a copy of the tsb since i only found out from them on june 25, 2012 that the said vehicle was still registered with the first owner. when the problem about the srs unit occurred which was directly related to the bulletin they released on february 5, 2008 they would not honor the bulletin anymore and even told me that my vehicle was not covered, even if the bulletin specifically states that the vehicles affected included "2000-2001 honda accord 2-dr and 4-dr: all with opds". i went to the dealership last friday, 6/22/2012 without knowing that this tsb ever existed and they were charging me a substantial fee to get it fixed even though it is a factory defect and should be fixed by them without cost to me. my complaint is that they failed to furnish me a copy of the service bulletin and now that this problem has occurred to my vehicle they will not honor that service bulletin. i would have brought my car in to get fixed even without this problem had i received this bulletin on time. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. the contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the driver gear light illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the contact had to wait ten to twenty minutes to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised the contact that the transmission shift malfunctioned. the vehicle was also experiencing problems with the ignition where it would not read the key to start the vehicle. the private mechanic stated that it would take ten attempts to start the vehicle so that the ignition could read the key. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 132,346.
Ignition key can be removed when the shifter is in non-park position and couple of times when this happened, the vehicle rolled away. this failure symptom was captured in nhtsa 05v-025, but, when asked, honda motor company responded that the nhtsa mandate didn't include this vin number. this suggests there may a reason to expand the vin numbers affected by this mandate. *tr
The srs light came on. honda tells us that the component that regulates the airbags (a mini-computer in the dash?) has failed and must be replaced. honda advises that, until replaced, the airbags will not work. based on the internet research i have done, this appears to be a fairly common problem. honda wants to charge $1000 to replace the unit, although it appears that the component is available online for about $325, and requires about an hour of labor to install. this seems to us to be a pretty fundamental safety issue, and this component should be engineered to last well beyond the anticipated lifetime of the vehicle. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. while the transmission was shifted into neutral, the key was able to be removed from the ignition. the failure occurred constantly. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 05v025000 (electrical system). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 120,000.

I am able to remove the key from my ignition when my car is in gear. i have checked the nhtsa database and this is a recall issue on 2000 honda accords (nhtsa campaign id number: 05v025000 ). i went to honda and spoke with the corporate customer service and there is nothing they will do for me as my car's vin number is not associated with this recall. i would like to have my car's vin added to the recall list, as it is exhibiting the recall symptoms and needs to be fixed. *tr
The above information was from the most recent incident, however this problem has existed for several years. my wife has told me about the problem with the ignition switch that allows this car to have the keys removed while the car is in drive and the engine is off (nhtsa action number peo5002). she contacted honda while in orlando fl but they said the recall was not for her vin. this is still problem and i contacted honda today and was told i could have it fixed but would have to pay for it. i am not sure but i believe this car should be included in the recall if the problem exists on it. please let me know what i have to do so honda will comply with their recall.
I own a 2000 honda accord that i purchased brand new. the car has been shutting down while i am on the road with no warning. this happens at different speeds. also when i pull over the engine will start immediately, but now it is hard to start and will stall immediately after starting it. i took my car to dealer on 6/7/11. the dealership had my car until june 9, 2011, but said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. so far i have been lucky that nobody has been behind me when the car has died. i called the dealer again on 6/18/11 and spoke with anita, who made it seem like i was crazy. she said they would have checked for any open recalls. i looked on line and i found that this has been an ongoing problem for other honda owners. my car has 103,000 miles, and this started happening in february, but is occurring more frequently. i did some research and found out that you investigated this under campaign number 02v120000 but i didnt see that 2000 accords were included in this. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) *tt

Headlamps are not bright enough at night... sometimes the car won,t start. i let it sit a while, then it starts. this is usually in the summer. before i turn off the ignition, i turn off all the blowers. (air) that seems to work. the windows fog up when it is humid and the blowers won't clear them.
