We have classified the 80 complaints from 2000 Honda Accord about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
I can remove my ignition key from my honda accord 2000 ex . 4 dr. 4cyl without putting on park. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. the contact stated that when the vehicle stopped and was in drive mode he was able to take the keys out of the ignition without shifting into park. the dealer was contacted and stated that his vehicles identification number was not included in the following nhtsa recall campaign id number 05v025000, electrical system, ignition switch. there were no diagnostic test performed or repairs made to the vehicle. the failure mileage was unknown. the current mileage was 200,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. the contact was parked when she discovered she was able to remove the keys from the ignition without the vehicle being in park. the contact was able to locate a recall for the failure (nhtsa campaign id number: 05v025000, component: electrical system: ignition: switch) but was advised by both the dealer and manufacturer that her vin was not included. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 249,000.
Failure of opds unit on my 2000 honda accord 4-door v-6. as an outcome of a joint action lawsuit honda agreed to extend the opds warranty to 10 years from the delivery date of the vehicle or 156,000 miles. my opds unit has failed just 3 months after the 10 year extension. this is the 2nd sds system failure as the seat belt sensor has failed in the past. honda now covers the seat belt failure on the many accord models for lifetime as the failure is common. failure of sds airbag system on honda accords and other honda vehicle models is an on-going chronic problem that renders the entire airbag system inactive upon any component failure. this is a serious safety hazard to owners and due to the high cost to repair the sds system many owners cannot afford to make the sds airbag system operative again. honda must step up to insuring that lifetime warranties on the sds systems are in place for all owners as an sds failure may result in injury or death for the vehicle owners. way too many sds system failures have been documented by honda dealers and owners. who knows just how many "red lights" are actually on the dashboards of honda accords out there that simply don't get fixed due to the high cost of repair? *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. the contact stated that none of the lights on the instrument panel are illuminated. the light on the instrument panel was not working when the vehicle was purchased. the dealer stated that nhtsa campaign recall 04v256000 was related to the interior lighting on the instrument panel, however, the vin was not included. the failure mileage was 126000 and the current mileage was 127000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda accord coupe. the contact stated that on june 2, 2010 while sitting at a stop sign, she noticed smoke emitting from the steering module. the windshield wiper fluid began spurting followed by a sizzling sound. the noise disappeared when the vehicle lights were turned off. the contact called the manufacturer who referred her to an authorized dealership where she would be responsible for repair expenses. the current and failure mileages were approximately 140,000.
I have a honda accord 2000 ex with 132000 miles. 1. the dashboard light does not work so i cannot see the equipment reading 2. the srs light on and stays on after the jump start the car. i check the online there are so many of the honda accord that have the same problem and this should be the safety issue. honda should take care of them. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. the contact stated that the key could be pulled out of the ignition while the vehicle was in the neutral position. the vehicle rolled backwards but was stopped by a cement brick in a parking lot. the contact stated that he noticed the problem with the key being taken out of the ignition while not in park three times prior to this failure. the contact called the dealership and was told that there were no related recalls. the manufacturer referred him to nhtsa. the vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. the failure mileage was 127,000.
Intermittent ignition switch function. *kb
After i removed my key from the ignition and was getting out, i noticed that the car started to roll. i then realized that the transmission was still in drive. i checked for recalls on this vehicle and found recall fitting this description and for my make model and year. nhtsa action number: pe05002. this problem is repeatable. i called honda at 1-800-999-1009 and was told that my vin was not included in this recall.. we took the car to my local honda dealer, who confirmed the problem and also told me that the recall did not match my vin. dealership is ed napleton honda 636-928-1155. invoice # 227162. estimate $596.00 plus taxes. we purchased this car new on august 16, 1999 and this is an early 2000 honda accord. we feel that this car should be included in this recall program. please advise. thanks. *tr
For no apparent reason at all (no moisture problem; no cell phone, computer, etc. use; no disconnecting anything at all, much less related to seat belts, passenger seat occupancy, seat removal, etc.) the srs light came on and has remained on for many months. google shows this to be a widespread problem, which has triggered a very wide range of responses from honda. this has been a wonderful car given timely completion of all scheduled maintenance. but the srs light problem, since it involves the safety restraining systems, should be guaranteed for the life of the car. but, given the various ways people with this issue have been treated, i am reluctant to take the vehicle to honda. it may only require a reset for the light, which should cost nothing. but charges for a diagnosis are in the $70-100 range. then, if there is actually a problem with safety, fixes have cost in a range of $600-1500. the whole situation is absurd.
Nhtsa action number: pe05043 already had service in 2009, srs problem back, dealer refused warranty corrective action. *tr
Dash light on instrument panel comes and goes darkening the entire dashboard while driving at night. vehicle was stopped at night by police on dark highway along coastline road due to driving too slow creating a traffic hazard for others. driver could not see panel to gauge speed. *tr
I have a 2000 honda accord ex 4-door with 4 cylinder engine, automatic transmission. when the car is started and the and shifted into drive, you can then remove the key from the ignition. this indicates a failure of the ignition switched interlock function. i called honda and was informed that my car had no recall notices for it's v.i.n. number. i am aware that their was a recall for this same problem ref:nhtsa campaign id number: 05v025000 & nhtsa action number: pe05002 . honda should remedy this problem since it could result in a possible crash of the vehicle and since their was a past history of this defect. *tr thanks dale clapper
The coil packs have caused misfirings. the car runs rough as if it is going to stall. the engine light continues to blink. *tr
The issue at hand involves a 2000 honda accord (coupe); i am able to turn the car off and remove the key from the ignition without putting the car into park. i am not sure of when this issue began. however, in mid-2008, i mistakenly left the car in drive and removed the key when parking my car in a parking lot, i left the parking lot and my car proceeded to roll backward and struck another vehicle at some point. this happened again this month. after this point, i researched recall information and saw that in 2005, nhtsa issued campaign 05v025000. i took my car into a dealer to have the issue investigated. my vehicle did indeed have the same issue (malfunctioning interlock) as the one in the recall, but my vin was not a part of that recall. it seems odd to me that though my car falls into the date range, make and model of this recall and possesses the same issue described in the recall. i am not convinced that this is a coincidence. i am in danger of losing coverage as a result of this malfunction. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. while driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle began jerking abnormally as if it would stall. the engine warning indicator illuminated on the instrument control panel. the dealer stated that the ignition coil failed and needed to be replaced at the cost of $332.78. the vehicle is in the process of being repaired. the manufacturer did not assist. the vin was unknown. the failure and current mileages were 116,000. updated 03/04/09.*lj the consumer stated the transmission was replaced. updated 03/06/09. *jb
Dash lights go out; there's a recall on the lx model and the ex model has the same problem. it is extremely dangerous to drive without dash lights. honda refuses to acknowldge problem. others have reported the same problem. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. the contact noticed that the tail lights were not illuminating on the vehicle. the lighting on the license plate had also blown out and the instrument panel lights would not illuminate. he replaced the lighting on the vehicle. the failure and current mileages were less than 142,000. updated 11/12/08. *lj updated 11/14/08. *jb
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). subject: honda accord - mileage/speedometer is not working properly dear sir, i have a honda accord 200 and its speedometer is not working properly. compare with diff gps, highway milestones etc. the speedometer is not correct. i have asked and compare with other honda owners and they have noticed the same problem. i took/complain to car dealer and they have noticed the problem as well, but they cannot fix it, its a manufacturing defect. while compare with gps speed and speedometer on car, car's speedometer is running faster by 5 mph more. i understand from an internal source, that it's a hondas dirty practice to convince customer that honda provides better mileage efficiency while comparing other cars. can you look in to it, please?[xxx] *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. the contact stated that the ignition switch does not lock and the key can be taken out of the ignition without the vehicle being in the park position. the failure could cause the vehicle to roll from a standing position and potentially crash into a vehicle or pedestrians. recall campaign number 05v025000 for the electrical system dealing with the ignition switch that was identical to the failure; however, the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included. the failure mileage was 115,000. the current mileage was 150,000.
In may of 2008 my 2000 honda accord lost power while driving and would not restart. all of the gas ran out from the front of the car. the computer board had gone out. the computer board was replaced by another mechanic and then was towed to the honda dealership to be reprogrammed. since then it has gone back and was diagnosed with misfires. the coil packs , plugs and wires, fuel injectors, egr valve all have been replaced. the car is still spitting and sputtering like it is running on 4 cylinders and it is a v6. i have researched and there seems to be alot of these problems. also the srs light stays on and you can turn the car off and remove the key without the car being in park. i never received any kind of recall from the dealerships on this recall. this car was bought new in 2000. *tr
Honda 2000 accord se has the electrical ignition interlock failure covered by nhtsa campaign id number: 05v025000. my car is included in those recalled.. just wanted to say thank you. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. the contact stated that the key could be removed from the ignition without the vehicle being placed into park. the shifter would also display that the vehicle was in park and drive at the same time. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 05v025000 (electrical system:ignition:switch), although the failures were identical. the failure and current mileages were less than 170,000.
There are 2 recalls on my year, make & model that i am experiencing. however, honda claims my vin is not included in the recall. i find it very odd that i could be experiencing both of the recalls, but my car is excluded. i also have seen several complaints all over the internet about the clearcoat on '98-'02 honda's peeling. honda is not accepting responsibility for the defective clearcoat. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. when the key is removed from the ignition and the gear shift is in any position, the vehicle will move forward or backwards on its own. the dealer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 05v025000 (electrical system: ignition: switch). the failure mileage was 48,000.

This complaint relates to car: 2000 honda accord lx 4 door sedan 4-cyl. 2.3l vtec(ulev), automatic transmission. current mileage: approx. 98,000 1. the dimmer control for the instrument panel light does not work for the mileage reading. comment: i saw that there is a recall for this dimmer control for honda accord 2000 v6, but it is not there for v4 engine. 2. srs light stays on the dashboard. comment: it is related to a safety issue, meaning some problem with airbags. *tr
Srs light lights up along with the side airbag light. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. after the vehicle was started, the air bag and service engine indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was driven to the dealer and they performed a diagnostic, but found no defects. immediately following, the contact noticed that the cooling fan would remain activated for long periods of time after the vehicle was turned off. she also stated that she could only place half a tank of gasoline in the vehicle. the vehicle would stall when it had a full tank of fuel. the vehicle was driven to the dealer a second time for a diagnostic and no defects were found. the cause of the failures have not been determined. the manufacturer has not been notified and the vehicle has not been repaired. the current mileage was 199,259 and failure mileage was 180,000.

Srs light has been on for over a year. the dealer said it would be very expensive to have it "looked at." recently, the o2 sensor came on and i've made 3 trips to have it fixed. it will cost me 420.20 to have the problem solved. i've been reading about recalls for this very problem, and as a senior, i'd sure appreciate some help. this doesn't seem fair. *tr

Ignition key can be removed from ignition without transmission selector being put into park. according to honda the vin number is not in the range of recalls and will not repair this problem unless i pay for the repair. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. the contact stated that she can remove the key from the ignition while the vehicle is in drive. as a result, the vehicle rolled off an embankment and struck a tree. there was damage to the front end and side of the vehicle. the contact currently has an appointment scheduled with the dealer. she is unsure if recall # 05v025000 (electrical system:ignition:switch) applies to her vin. the purchase date was unknown. the current and failure mileages were 111,000.
Honda accord 2000 - can remove the key from the ignition without the car being in park. was told at the dealer, and by honda usa, that my car didn't fall into the ones covered by factory recall. not sure when it first started only really noticed about a year ago. *tr
Tl*- the contact owns a 2000 honda accord with a current and failure mileage of 84,000 miles. when the contact tried to turn the key he would receive no response from the starter. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer, but they could not find the cause of the problem. they thought it could possibly be the ignition switch. the contact stated that vehicle was having the same problem as mentioned in recall 02v120000 concerning the ignition:switch. *ak the consumer has provided a copy of the repair invoice. updated 05/21/07 *tr
I had left the car in a parking structure. apparently i had left the gear in reverse rather than in park. after leaving the car with my ignition key in hand the car began to roll, and subsequently crashed into another car which was parked. the damage was minimal, but costly to repair anyhow. there was a woman with a baby in a carriage which was narrowly missed by the moving vehicle. i have since learned that i should not have been able to remove the key from the ignition with the gear shift lever not in park. in fact, there has been a recall 05v025000 for the exact same problem. although almost 500000 cars of the same year and model of mine were affected by the recall, my particular vin was not included. honda disclaims any responsibility since my warranty has long expired and my car is not covered by the recall. it was interesting that the recall notice included the following words under "defect consequence:" "if the driver does not shift to park before removing the key and failed to engage the parking brake, the vehicle could roll and a crash could occur" this was the exact scenario of the incident which occurred. *ak
2000 honda accord ex 4 cyl. vin# 1hgcg565xya0xxxxx experience sudden loss of instrument panel lighting, automatic transmission selection indicator light, door and trunk open indicator light when running light and headlight switch was turned on. this failure presents the same symptoms as a recall for 2000 accords with a v-6 engine but is outside the narrow scope of the honda recall. *nm
Not able to remove key from ignition in any gear. *tr
side air bag: light comes on and turns off intermittently for no given reason. this has been happening since i bought the car in january 2007. tried to get assistance from buerkle honda who did not make any notes about my request. now tell me i need a new electrical system and that it means the air bags will not work. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. when the contact exited the vehicle with the gear selector in the "drive" position, the key released from the ignition. the failure persisted. the vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired when the complaint was filed. the failure mileage was 100,000.
Car key can be removed from the ignition without requiring the driver to place the transmission in park. i purchased the car used last month and am not accustomed to driving an automatic-transmission vehicle. on multiple occasions, i have left the car in drive and attempted to exit the vehicle after shutting off the motor, only to have the car begin rolling forward or backward. condition is extremely dangerous. curiously, this is the exact problem for which the nhtsa issued recall no. 05v025000. however, dealer and american honda motor co. refuse to repair the car because its vin number does not fall within the range that honda believes to be inclusive of cars with this defect. unbelievable. car is a 2000 honda accord. *nm
I was driving home from work about 6.30 pm and in a flash my dash lights went out. i went to a honda dealer, they told me it was a multiplex control unit, and it was not under warranty. so i looked up ,if there was any recalls on this vehicle, their is, but honda said my vin# wasn't on their list. *nm

Dt*: the contact stated the inner lock on the ignition switch was not working which allowed the key to be removed from the ignition without putting the car in park. there was a nhtsa recall, # 05v025000, regarding the electrical system:ignition:switch . the vehicle was not included in the recall due to the vin. updated 10/04/06. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. the contact was able to turn the ignition to the off position and remove the key without shifting the transmission into park. the dealer stated that the ignition switch interlock needed to be changed. there was recall # 05v025000 concerning the electrical system:ignition:switch. the dealer stated that this vehicle was not included in the recall,. however, the contact felt that it should. the current mileage is 84,000, and failure mileage was 80,000.*ak
My 2000 honda accord has the same failure of the ignition interlock mechanism as described in the recent recall of the 2003 model year accords. *tr
Dt*: the contact stated the instrument panel lights failed to work in the vehicle. the only lights that are working on the instrument panel are the turn signals. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. upon inspecting the vehicle it was determined the dimmer control for the instrument panel was faulty. there is an nhtsa recall, # 04v256000, regarding the interior lighting. the vin and motor size was not included in the recall according to the manufacturer. *ak
The dimmer control for the instrument panel light failed and can not see the instruments at night. there is already a report for this failure (#04v256000), for my same model year. honda will not honor recall because my vin does not apply. *nm
