We have classified the 245 complaints from 2011 Ford Fusion about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
My car when put into drive would make a clunking noise and lunge forward, also when up shifting and down shifting it would be harsh and clunk. i took it the ford dealer and they said i needed a rebuilt transmission put in at a price of $5490, because the one in it had to many problems and would cost more to fix then the rebuilt one, so that's what i did the car only had 71438 miles on it.
Drove at 25 miles per hour my car suddenly jerked and hesitated on acceleration. at this time a wrench light came on and my car completely loss power. i could not accelerate and the car moved at 10 miles/hour. this was very dangerous! i was lucky because it was in the early morning, not many traffi. i could have in car accident if it happened in a rush hour. i have taken my car to ford deller and could not find anything wrong. this has happened many times in last several months. you guys really need to get all of there ford fusions off of the road.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. while driving 40 mph, the transmission seized and the service now, power steering, and advancetrac warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vehicle had excessive mileage. the dealer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 199,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. when accelerating from a red light, the vehicle violently hesitated to accelerate and the check engine and wrench warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 168,000.
Throttle bottle pops a code. wrench light comes on while in motion and suddenly stalls. i can pull over and shut off vehicle to clear code. restarting vehicle works amd i can drive to my destination. it does happen again usually next day. it does not matter the speed of vehicle. mechanic started failed throttle body. my car only has 121000 miles. is this still covered by ford. 2015 a judgement covered vehicles for 10yrs or 15000miles whichever came first.
While taking a one lane exit on the freeway going at 30 miles per hour a wrench light came on and my car completely loss power. the car coasted until it came to a complete stop. this was very dangerous! i could have died. you guys really need to get all of there ford fusions off of the road. i could not accelerate or brake to slow on the freeway. i waited 5 minutes and the car turned on with no problem. my mechanic could not replicate the problem so he said there was no problem. while looking online this is a throttle body issue. which needs to be recalled immediately. i can't work if i can't get there with a car that i've purchased!!! i refuse to drive this car!
I just purchased this vehicle used from a local dealer on 05/16/2019. i noticed an occasional hesitation when i accelerated sometimes. conversely, it seemed as though the vehicle suddenly lurched ahead when i was barely engaging the accelerator. this odd occurrence has become more frequent the more i've driven the car. to the point that i looked for paperwork to take the vehicle for possible transmission service. over the past couple of weeks, i've begun to hear of issues with the ford focus and ford fiesta that sound exactly what i'm experiencing. i use today's date as when it happened, but it has been happening with increasing frequency as i've driven the car.
Power steering light coming on, car randomly losing power while driving.
On, november 10, 2016, i pulled into a parking spot in a shopping plaza. i put my car in park, took my foot off of the break and my car started rolling backwards. i put my foot back on the break and pulled the emergency break and my car stopped. i didn't know what was wrong, so i put the keys in the ignition and tried to start the car and it wouldn't. i called a tow truck, had it towed to a ford dealership where they replaced the sifter cable. i had 84,561 miles on the car at the time. this past weekend, march, 16, 2019, i pulled into a parking spot in the fells point area of baltimore, put my car in park, took my foot off of the break and my car started rolling forward. i pulled the emergency break and the car stopped. i tried to start the car, and it would not start. it is a problem with the shifter cable again. i've only put about 23,000 miles on the car since the last time it was replaced. i am currently waiting to hear from ford to see what they are going to do about it.
The steering components for my front end frequently break and the transmission has been rough ever since i got my car in 2015
For the last year experiencing progressively worsening drivability issues. the most concerning is steadily increasing throttle lag (time between applying more pressure to accelerator and vehicle responding), which i view as a safety issue. the vehicle does not respond appropriately when applying throttle, which may increase risk of accident b/c vehicle may not accelerate properly when needed either placing me at risk because it leaves me in the path of another vehicle or prevents my vehicle from expeditiously responding to avoid another vehicle.. secondarily vehicle now operating almost exclusively in gas power mode (worsening mpg efficiency) but also causing jerking/hesitation when transitioning between gas/ev modes. this powertrain was not designed to work in gas only but as a partnership between gas/ev, therefore in gas alone is not working properly. internet search reveals many other owners experience same problem. to dealer service x 3 - 1st 2 dealer said nothing wrong. finally given a ford service bulletin (attached) that ford is aware for at least 4 months and forbids service to the car! thus i have an unsafe vehicle that ford has no solution for repair for at least 4 months, and no indication of when this will be addressed.
I had recently purchased a 2011 ford fusion se and my vehicle has rough downshifting. i had read online about a lot of the years having these transmission issues. when in a lot of traffic harsh downshifting happens which means more brake pressure and i feel like this is unsafe as it could cause a accident.in traffic i feel like the car is unsafe to drive
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. while driving 60 mph, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the vehicle. prior to the noise, the contact noticed a burning odor. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who found grease inside the transfer case. the vehicle was taken to paramount ford of valdese (101 malcolm blvd suite a, valdese, nc 28690, (828) 338-9348) where it was diagnosed that the transfer case needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 60,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. while driving 45 mph, the vehicle inadvertently decelerated and came to a complete stop. the contact had to turn off the engine because it was still on when the failure occurred. when the vehicle was restarted, it functioned properly. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and it was diagnosed that a sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.
2011 ford fusion. consumer writes in regards to throttle body malfunction. *lad the consumer stated the vehicle stalled out and loss power numerous times while driving. the dealer was notified. the vehicle was not included in the recall due to being over the mileage limitations. *js
Vehicle started leaking transmission fluid from the seal mechanic said it is a problem with this year ford fusion and there should have been a recall
Car spontaneously shut down with no power to engine while driving on highway when check throttle/transmission warning light came on. problem is related to nhtsa action number: pe13003. dealers refused to fix it. ford corporate never responded to my mail.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. while driving various speeds, the transmission and check engine warning indicators illuminated. the contact stated that the vehicle lost power and stalled intermittently on more than one occasion. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the following error code appeared: throttle body assembly error code (p2119). town and country ford in charlotte, north carolina was made aware of the failure and stated that they were unaware of any recalls regarding the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue and stated that the vehicle did not qualify for the extended mileage warranty coverage. the failure mileage was approximately 154,000.
When traveling on a highway the car shifts hard and will not accelerate. dealer would not replace throddle body when asked to. there is a recall on this. i also suggested a software update. i was told i need a new transmission. the car has been sitting since last year. i purchased a new car.
Supplemental to nhsta 11v574000, my 2011 ford fusion fwd continues to suffer wheel stud fracture. a total of 5 studs have fractured, 2 prior to recall and now 3 studs after recall and complete stud replacement. i can provide pictures upon request, the latest was a day ago with 142,525miles.
I was driving on a busy city street during rush hour when i noticed the car jerking when it changed gears. the rpm would shoot up high then back down while losing power to the vehicle. i managed to get to an auto advance store where i had a diagnostic done since my check engine light was on. the diagnostic came back with code po455 twice and po457 twice. it was then explained that too much air was getting into my fuel system. i proceeded to go to the ford dealership, which was a half mile away. on the way, my car continued to jerk and loose power and some points. then everything digital which one displays my mileage and the other displays how many mile till empty displayed intermittent lines and the wrench illuminated on my dashboard. at this time my car was on but quickly lost power to go forward. it almost got rear ended by the car behind me. i put on my turn signal and i coasted to the side of the road, turn off my car waited a few minutes the turned back on and put it in drive. the car would not move forward. the engine just revved up like i had it in neutral. i put it back in park then put it in reverse. the car would operate in reverse. had to have car towed to dealership. three months prior to this incident, i had to take my car to the dealership because of excessive battery acid on my positive terminal that had eaten through the wiring harness. had to have harness and battery replaced. i still notice issues of battery acid accumulating around the screws on the battery harness and positive lead again.
Takata recall still waiting, on back order as of 11/14/2017 automatic transmission downshifts harshly, and i had to pay ford dealer to reprogram it even though there is a service advisory for this problem.
2011 ford fusion se had a transmission problem while it was still under warranty (nov. 2013). our vehicle recently had trouble accelerating and shifting between gears. we took our car to a mechanic and he informed us that 3 gears in the transmission broke and we need a new transmission. this car only has 55k miles on it and this is the second transmission problem we've had!! the mechanic said he's never seen a transmission go this early, but reading reviews online of 2011 ford fusions, it seems like this is more common than we'd like to think.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that the transmission shifted abnormally in between gears. the failure occurred without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed due to the diagnostic fees. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was approximately 86,000.
This past week when pulling into my driveway i shifted my car into park and i could feel something give. i could not shift out of park after so i removed console to do it manually as shift interlock override was not working. i can manually shift but the dash indicator is obviously misaligned and it will never go into park or register on the dash as going into park (only seems to recognize park when i kill the engine in neutral with handbrake on and then shift to park; thus releasing the key). other than that i can get it to go into all other gears(r, n, d, m) with some "finagling". i took it into the dealer as this problem is above me and they just looked at it this morning (11/21/16) and they just called with a quote. they said the linkage was broken and i needed a new shifter assembly. at least that's what i think they told me over the phone.
While driving 70 mph on the highway the car suddenly shuddered. the yellow wrench light came on and the gas pedal would not work. forced to coast to the shoulder. shut car off waited 30 seconds and tried to restart. car started and wrench light went out. was able to drive. has happened repeatedly. i called ford and there is a customer satisfaction program 13n03. to address this but said they could only correct if the computer saved a code. since this problem has thus far failed to trip my check engine light, it is not storing a code. i argued that it was unsafe for me to drive the care like this. they stated that ford does not recommend i drive the car and stated my only options are to take to dealership for diagnosis where the only hope is that they can drive the car and maybe the intermittent problem will luckily happen. this is unacceptable. they know the issue exists and is unsafe. i have read multiple accounts of this on the internet. how many more are required to trigger a recall?
In the last 24 hours my vehicle stalled on the freeway (i was almost rear-ended--this highway has a curb on both sides instead of shoulders) 4 times in 5 miles. the first time was as i was turning onto the highway from an intersection. each time, i was unable to accelerate the car with the gas pedal. each time, this was preceded by a lurching forward and a sluggish performance of the engine for about 1 second before the engine no longer powers the wheels. the wrench light comes on and i have to turn the car off and then turn it back on in order to be able to accelerate again. as i said, when i would accelerate, the engine would die, and this happened four times. when i restart the car, but before it dies again, the check engine light comes on. this is an issue with other 2011 ford fusions that the nhtsa has already investigated--the throttle body is defective. however, somehow the nhtsa let ford off the hook and didn't recall the part and allowed ford to only apply the "customer satisfaction program 13n03" to cars with automatic transmissions. i have a manual transmission car. i will tell you that exactly what happened in cars that initiated the investigation and this program is exactly what is happening in my car. the investigation needs to be reopened and this throttle body needs to be recalled for all transmission types. i was almost rear-ended by a car going 55 mph, even though i had my 4-way flashers on in the right lane, because the highway my car died on a does not have shoulders. this defective part is an extreme safety hazard and needs to be recalled!!
While driving at 60 miles per hour my vehicle decelerate in rush hour traffic, miles away from home. i was able to put my emergency flashers on and move over to the shoulder before my car completely lost power. i had a tool light come on the dash and the car was still on but no power. i turn the engine completely off for about t 1 minute and then restart my car. i was able to safely make it home. on my grandchildren first day of school, while picking up at 1 of 3 schools on the way to the second school my car decelerated just before a train track during rush hour once again. this time my engine light came on the dash. following the same technique i restarted my car, made it across the track only for it to quit again. my grand baby was worried and needless to say so was i.. using the same technique we were able to make it safely home. requiring another vehicle to go pick up at the other two school late.... please tell me i shouldn't be afraid to drive my car because right now i am i attempted to perform a vehicle health check but it want allow me too. please say there is a solution to this ongoing problem surely ford is aware of this problem and there's a recall and i'm unaware right
Have a defective ptu - power transfer unit that needs replacing. it was leaking fluid and was told i need a whole new unit. i have read about numerous issues with these but a recall was never issued.
There's a creaking sound that is coming from the right side of the vehicle hen you're driving. the creaking sound comes to play when you're driving 5 minutes into your travel. the sound tends to come and go but at times, it gets really bad. i've had other people comment on the sound and have seen on ford forums that this has been a common issue with this vehicle.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle jerked and shook. the wrench warning indicator illuminated. the contact had to maneuver to the side of the road. after a few minutes, the vehicle resumed normal operation. the warning indicator was no longer illuminated. the vehicle was driven to the contact's residence, but the acceleration was not normal. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the failure could not be replicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 99,700.
The transmission or engine slams at various speeds and starting and stopping the transmission slams the car forward. the rear view mirror has started to peel away from the glass causing major vision problems. i asked the dealer about the issue and they told me to call customer service. needless to say i still have the same mirror.
Wipers quit working in middle of windshield. attempt to speed up delay and will not slow down. if operator tries to slow the delay speed down speed will not decrease. transmission slams after highway travel and locks up drive tire at times.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. while driving approximately 72 mph, the vehicle lost acceleration and decelerated to approximately 30 mph. the contact had to maneuver to the shoulder to a complete stop. the vehicle was towed to the dealer that was closed. the vehicle was not diagnosed. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 64,000.
While driving on city street car just loss power and slowly stop moving ,so i pull over into the center divider as it shut down. i turned the ignition to off started it back up and continued on that happened a few years after i bought the car brand new, recently my car has ben doing a lot of jerking as if i'm running over a rock so i took it in and some work was done with the transmission, that was about 2/3 weeks ago and it started doing the jerking again it usually happens when i take off. so i call today and made another appointment. my concern is that this car isn't even 5 years old and already having problems with the transmission and other issue. and i got the 5 year warranty with is soon to expire and the i stuck with a car that i feel was faulty from the beginning.
Car was traveling 60mph on straight road when it jerked and wrench light and check engine light and abs and stability lights came on. pulled to side of road and shut off car. restarted and drove 100 feet and wrench light came back on and once again pulled over to shoulder to restart car. after 2nd restart it drove fine for 15 minutes and then stalled completely, once again restarted car and drove 5 feet it once again stalled and lost all power. restarted and drove for 10 minutes to have it start jerking at a stop light and then stall out once i pulled into work.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. while driving 65 mph, the safety hazard light illuminated and caused the vehicle to decelerate. the contact was able to move safely onto the road shoulder. the vehicle was towed to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 78,000.
My car has had a few recalls. i brought it to watertown ford and they did not fix it properly. i bought it at enterprise car sales, woburn ma. they were supposed to check it and it was not certified like they promised. from the first month the car had issues. it keeps showing the wrench and not accelerating properly. i can't afford to keep fixing it. i would like ford to buy back the car. for more than 11,000.00.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. while driving at approximately 50 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle restarted; however, the failure recurred after the wrench and check engine warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle needed a tune up. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 59,525.
My car has stalled out and surges it looses all power. my check engine light came on and i immediately drove it to the dealership p2111 code showed up when the diagnosed the problem. i have researched the issue and have found that this is common in this paticular model. this should be a factory recall.
When leaving from work, reversed out of parking space. the car took a bit more pressing on the gas to accelerate than normal. when pulling out of driveway, the rpm shot up to 4000 and the car did not shift into gear to accelerate. when shifting into second gear it was harsh and jerky. when approaching a stop sign, down shifting was jerky. when traffic moved forward and i pressed on the accelerator, the car shifted into reverse and i quickly had to brake. i could feel that shifting for every gear took more rpm's and it was very violent, driving is dangerous and i am now scared to drive my car. i am having it towed to dealership tomorrow to try and find out exactly what is going on and how to fix it.
Ford fusion 2011 engine surged and dropped speed and resulting in me nearly being rear ended by vehicle behind me. engine felt as if the transmission hesitated in between shifting gears.
I put my car a 2011 ford fusion in drive the power steering failure asst light came on & i lost power steering. i am a 109 lb female & it took every bit of strength i had to control my car. i immediately took it to the local ford dealership & i shut it off. when i turned it back on the light was off & my steering was back. this is the first incident i have had. i have owned this car for 11 months.
When ur going 60 mph or faster. it feels like the rear end is swaying. i just bought the car 7 months ago. *tr
I started receiving a power steering assist failure warning light, and loss of power steering, about a week before it failed completely. each time i was in a parking lot and reset the warning light by turning off the car and turning it back on. i was pulling out of the driveway on friday march 6th, 2015 when the light came back on, and i lost power steering in the vehicle. due to the vehicle not being operable on the road, i had it towed to the local ford dealership. they diagnosed the issue as a steering rack module failure and suggested a replacement of the steering rack. we ended up having them replace it and the total bill was over $1,700.00. the dealership stated that this is a common problem with this specific model year and car and had this part in stock. a simple internet search also shows that many other cars with this specific model year have the same issue. please look into issuing a recall as losing power steering could potentially be dangerous if driving the car on a highway. *tr
Driving down interstate vehicle stopped responding. wrench light came on, diagnosed as faulty throttle body. *tr
Twice now my vehicle has lost power steering while driving. the lights suddenly come on saying "service power steering now" "service advancetrac". the first time this happened they were able to reset the computer stating it was an issue with the electronic computer. now it has happened again and it is completely unsafe. this is not the only electrical issue i have had with this car. about a year ago the electronic throttle body sensor went on it. this was an intense safety problem that was thankfully recalled. ford really needs to realize the implications of electronic issues in this vehicle. *tr
I was driving my vehicle on the highway at 60 miles per hour when the power steering when out completely. when this happened i was at a off ramp exit and had almost zero steering i panicked and tried to get off the exit which had a sharp radius turn, i could not keep the vehicle on the road and traveled off into to grass until i could skid to a stop. if there would have been a different situation other then the grass i was able to crash off into i or someone else could have been killed or seriously injured. it took every bit of strength i have to try to control the vehicle to keep it from a very serious accident, as my vehicle lost steering i had two dash warnings that came on. advanced trac and power steering both quit working. with the research i've done i think its a disgrace that ford has done nothing to fix this issue. i have no way to pay over $2000 to get my car operational again. i will no doubt loose my job do to now not having transportation. my car only has 48500 miles on it. thanks ford *tr
Put the car in reverse and the power steering locked up. this has happened about 6 times since then and the ford dealer keeps saying that the cant find the problem. but why is this happening if there isnt a problem?
Driving up the highway at about 65mph then the car begins to start losing power and speed, i have to pull over all the way to the right in the emergency lane. the yellow wrench light is on and i shut off the car then start it again, i'm able to make it home about 10 miles from home. if i didn't react quick enough this could have caused a major accident on the freeway. *tr
