We have classified the 245 complaints from 2011 Ford Fusion about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
While accelerating on the highway at approximate. 65 mph on 27jun13, at 1745, the 2011 ford fusion sel lost all acceleration. we pulled over to the right hand shoulder, put the vehicle in park, and turned it off. we waited a moment, restarted then engine, and proceeded to merge with traffic. less than two miles later, the same thing happened. we pulled over again, turned off engine and waited a moment. we restarted it and drove it home. friday 5 jul13 the car went to kolwaski ford in avon lake oh. the reprogrammed the pcm for the rough shift of the transmission. we picked up the car, and less than 4 miles from the deals hip we had the repairs done, we experienced the same issue of lost acceleration. we called the dealership's service department, and advised the same engine failure occurred. while driving back to the dealerships, the engine once again lost power at an intersection. the car is currently at the service center of kolwaski ford in avon lake oh. *tr
1st incident: i was with my children in the car at a red light, when the light changed to green i pushed the gas pedal to move forward the car started jerking and shaking then all the power was lost to the car. the wrench light was also on. i turned the key off, waited a few minutes turn the key again and car started and drove fine from there. 2nd incident: my husband stopped at a stop sign with myself and my children in the car, proceeded forward and the car began to loose power and jerking and shaking, we only made it across the intersection because we drifted. the wrench light came on. he turned the key off, waited a few minutes, turned the key and car started and drove okay from there. 3rd incident: myself with my children in the car stopped at a red light. when i proceeded to turn and go forward the car began loosing power, then started jerking and shaking and the wrench light came on. i turned the key off, waited a few minutes and started it back up and went ok from there. took the car to dealer and they diagnosed it as throttle body problem that needed $771.00 in repair. it is past the 36,000 mile warranty. we bought the car used from the dealer, past the emissions warranty date. this is a safety issue and concern that should warrant a recall. *tr
While driving on a busy road in rush hour traffic going about 40-45 miles per hour my car engine was still running but would not accelerate. i looked down at the dash and the wrench light was on. i managed to coast out of the traffic and get to a safe spot. i tried to call dealer but they were not open yet. i sat with car still running for a few minutes to see if it would shift into gear but nothing happened. engine still running but when gas pedal was pushed nothing happened. i feel this is a safety issue because the car just slows down with no warning and could have caused an accident. not sure what i should do at this time so, i shut the car off and restarted it. it seemed to be working, so i started back on the road only to have it happen again. i turned the car off and back on again and it managed to get me to work. i have not gone to the dealer as of yet but it appears that the fusions are having a throttle body issue. if i go to the dealer and the car is not acting up, i will be paying for them to tell me they can't find anything wrong. according to the complaints this is a major safety issue. *tr
6 times in the past 9 days, the ford fusion has been driving at various speeds (25 mph to 65 mph) and suddenly a "wrench" warning light has illuminated on the dash, and simultaneously the car seems to lose all power to the wheels. depressing the pedal doesn't result in any acceleration or to maintain speed, but the rpm's don't increase either. this is very unsafe. in one of the incidents the car was in the left hand lane of a major highway, traveling at 65 mph, and had to be guided over onto the left median as it decelerated with traffic piling up behind. the car can always be turned off, then re-started, put back in drive, and then functions normally. this seems to be the same throttle body issue that is widely reported on ford fusion forum websites. the car was bought used, but has been driven for almost 1 year and 9,000 miles and this issue had never appeared before 9 days ago. *tr
On june 23, 2013, i was at a stop light and in the process of turning right when i accelerated my car suddenly lost power and wouldn't go any faster than 2 mph and a wrench light came on in the dash. i pulled into a driveway that was close but i was on a busy street. i didn't want to turn the car off being afraid that it would not start back up so i backed out and attempted to drive home because i was very close to my home. i backed out and was able to drive the car home going this same speed...at times the car would act like it wanted to accelerate but never did. when i made it home i turned the car off and out of curiosity turned it back on to see if it would start and it started right up and the wrench was gone. i then drove it around my neighborhood to see if it would duplicate the problem but it didn't. on the next day, i asked someone to follow me as i drove the car down a busy highway, still trying to see if the problem would duplicate and it would not. on yesterday, june 29, 2013, i was out driving going about 35 mph and the same issue described above happened (2 more times) and each time i turned the car off and started it back up and it was fine. i just purchased my car used from a reputable dealership on feb 25, 2013 and it had 59,000 miles on it when i purchased it so it's no longer under factory warranty and i didn't purchase and extended warranty. today i just happened to search to see if others are having this same issue with their ford and saw a # of the same complaints and truly hope that ford recalls the vehicles for this and i not have to pay for this repair out of pocket because clearly this is an issue beyond the consumers control. *tr
I was leaving a shopping center and had to a stop to yield to traffic. when i placed my foot on the accelerator, i noticed that the car seemed to have lost power. i could not accelerate above10 mph. i also felt the car shaking violently. the check engine and mechanic's wrench warning lights on the dashboard illuminated. i pulled to a stop at the gas station, shut off the engine and re-started the vehicle. afterwards, the warning lights on the dashboard were no longer illuminated, and the car seemed to return to normal. a few miles down the road (on a highway where the speed limit is 50 mph), i came to a stop at a traffic light. once the light turned green, i attempted to accelerate but found that my car had lost power once again and could hardly move. the check engine light was also illuminated again. i was stuck in the left lane of the road with no shoulder to pull onto--a very dangerous situation. i put on my hazard lights, turned the car off and on again. then, i was able to drive the car normally a few miles to my home. however, the engine light remained illuminated. i had the car towed to a repair shop because i considered it unsafe to drive. the shop informed me that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the part was on national back-order for over a week. . clearly, this is a common problem for ford fusions. considering the safety risks, i am very surprised that there has been no recall. *tr
I was driving the vehicle on a four lane highway at a speed of 55 mph. the wrench (mechanical) warning light illuminated and the engine rpms dropped. i steered the vehicle to the shoulder of the road. the vehicle would not accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. i parked the vehicle and turned the engine off. i restarted the car and the wrench warning light no longer illuminated. the vehicle accelerated when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the engine rpms increased and decreased while the vehicle was at idle. i have dropped off the vehicle to the ford dealership to get the problem diagnosed. i had another issue on or about 16 may 2013. i was driving the vehicle on a four lane road in heavy traffic at a speed of 45 mph. i was accelerating the vehicle up hill. the rpms on the engine surged and the vehicle accelerated to about 65 mph. the vehicle speed continued to increase. i quickly removed my foot from the accelerator. the rpms did not decrease when i removed my foot from the accelerator. i had to brake with my left foot and tap on the accelerator pedal with my right foot in order to get the accelerator unstuck. i almost rear ended the vehicle in front of my vehicle and was lucky i was able to get the accelerator unstuck before i reached a red light and would not been able to stop the vehicle. i did not take the vehicle to the dealership, because the vehicle seemed to drive fine without further instances until today. *tr
The wrench icon popped up and the vehicle stalled while going down the highway out of town. turned the car off and it acted like it didn't want to crank back up. tried again and drove 2 miles down the road and it stalled out again. put in park, put in drive and all it did was roll backwards. cut it off and sat awhile and drove less than a mile down the road to a safe place to have it towed in. *tr
While going 75 mph in the fast lane of a 4-lane highway sunday afternoon, the car shifted hard, the wrench light came on, and the car would not accelerate. as the car slowed, it began lurching back and forth. we were able to pull off the road into a parking lot and the car continued to lurch after it was put in park. i turned car off and then back on. the starter turned over several times before the care started back up, but car made it the final 25 miles home without incident. same manifestation of the issue tuesday evening on the way home from work going about 25 mph in traffic. same recovery. on my way to an offsite work meeting on thursday i was going ~45 mph when the failure occurred. when i returned from the meeting 45 minutes later, the car had the same issue at ~50 mph. the dealership says the throttle body needs to be replaced, but that there are none available in the usa right now and that there is a 3-4 week back order. though they seem to be replacing a lot of throttle bodies, ford contends that this is not a problem. *tr
Whenever we accelerate our vehicle hesitates and then jumps into gear. it has already cut off once and we are worried about our safety. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, there was a sudden loss of power as the wrench light illuminated. the contact stated that on another occasion while driving approximately 5 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for a diagnostic test. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 80,000. *tr
Incident#1: traveling on freeway fast lane at around 65 mph, engine appeared to cut out for no apparent reason. lost all power, but radio still on. put on emergency flashers and was fortunate enough to be able to get all the way over to emergency lane. turned off ignition, took out key, turned car back on, and everything started normally. was able to get back home without any other problem. incident#2: pulling away from a stop sign at around 5 mph after having driven only about a mile from home. engine cut out again as i was accelerating. pulled to the side of the road and turned off car, removed key from ignition, started car again and everything was fine. fortunately, i have been alone in the car when this has happened, but i have two children under 4 whom i transport often. it seems like only a matter of time before i'm in a more serious situation and this happens again (such as turning left into oncoming traffic with my kids in the car). based on many complaints on this site and actual personal accounts of other ford fusion owners who have had the exact same problem, it seems obvious that there is a problem with the throttle body. hopefully there will be a fix for this before someone gets seriously injured. *tr
As i was driving down the road at 55 mph, with cruise control on, my car suddenly lost its ability to accelerate. i pushed the gas pedal and nothing would happen. as i slowed down on the side of the road the car began to shake. i turned the car off and started it back up and it ran fine for about 5 miles and did the same thing. after seeing all the complaints regarding the same thing, this car needs to be recalled! *tr
On june 10, 2013 i was driving on a side street and stopped at an intersection. i went to accelerate to advance into the intersection and it was as if i had lost power. i was able to get the car to the side of the road. the wrench was illuminated on the dash. i turned off the car and started it and it seemed fine. a few weeks later, around july 18th, i was backing out of my driveway and the same thing happened. i limped to the side of the road and turned off the engine and it started fine. on august 9 i was on the highway in the slower speed lane and i felt the car hesitate. it was as if the engine wasn't getting any gas. the car had only enough power to get to the side of the road, a local ford dealership was close by so we brought the car there. we were told it is the throttle body and air bypass and that the part is on backorder and they can't estimate when the part will be in. searching the web i found this is a known issue with the 2009-2011 fusions and there could be a recall. the ford dealership never said a word about a known problem. we have only owned the car for a year. *tr
2300 rpm, transmission lurches, no throttle response. i have to pull over and cut the ignition off to reset the sensor. happened multiple times and finally the check engine light glowed. i went to the ford dealership they said the throttle sensor was bad. i pay them to replace the whole throttle body, which i read online is constantly recurring. not covered in warranty and the number of times this has happened, ford should be responsible for a faulty part. not me. *tr
Driving on highway, left lane at 72 mph, car made a clunking noise and shuddered, instantly lost ability to accelerate engine, tach dropped to 720 rpm, transmission acted as if it was in neutral. pulled off highway to shoulder. engine continued to run, but no response from accelerator. *tr
Vehicle loses all power while driving. wrench light appeared the first 7 times, but after turning the vehicle off and restarting, it goes away and car drives like normal. today while driving it happened at around 60mph. both the wrench light and check engine light came on and after a restart the check engine light stays on. vehicle barely limped the rest of the 5 miles to my house. this has happened at high speeds on the freeway as well nearly causing multiple accidents. currently waiting on dealership to come back with a quote to replace the throttle body. ford needs to issue a recall notice and warranty the cost of the replacement before someone gets killed due to this issue. they are just weighing the cost of a lawsuit due to fatality vs. the cost of warranting the malfunctioning part. paying a few million to a family is cheaper than paying to fix ~725,000 vehicles. work with the throttle body supplier, get your qa/qc under control, and fix the issue guys. *tr ## vin failed ##
I was driving 30mph down a busy street, with back-to-back traffic, when the car jolted forwarded at which time the wrench light became illuminated on the dashboard, the car immediately started bucking (going forward and backward) and i lost all control of the accelerator. the car immediately slowed to a crawl while continuing to "buck." this incident forced everyone behind me to slam on their breaks and i was nearly hit from behind. i was able to maneuver the car to the side of the road safely. my children were in the car and had i been going any faster, they may have suffered from whiplash when the car jolted forward, started bucking and slowed to a crawl simultaneously or this incident could have lead to a several car pile up since this happened during the busiest time of day. a tow truck was dispatched and towed the car to the nearest dealer. the dealer advised that the throttle body motor failed and when it did, the throttle was forced shut (error code: p2112). *tr
I was driving home from work when my car started to slow down and wouldn't speed up after applying the gas pedal. then it started to lurch, or jerk forward, and the 'wrench' indicator light came on. i was able to pull over and apply the brakes, which worked but were grinding. i left the engine running while waiting for a tow truck, for fear of not being able to get the engine started again. the problem was a bad/faulty throttle, which was repaired. i have seen similar complaints on the nhtsa website and, due to the dangerous nature of these incidents, i urge a recall be issued for all applicable vehicles. *tr
I was driving home from school (this has happened before, just not as bad) and my car stopped responding. the wrench light came on and the check engine light came on. i was on a really busy road, so i had to pray that i would not get hit. i turned off the car, and tried to restart it, but it did not want to restart. i sat for a few seconds and was finally able to get it restarted. this happened numerous (probably 6-8 times) on my 12 mile trip home. i took it to the shop this morning and found out it is the throttle body. i just looked it up online and have found out this is a common issue, and that the dealerships (when the car is under warranty) act like they don't know what it wrong. this is not right. there needs to be a recall! i don't have a warranty now, and i took my car to the dealership before the warranty was up and they said there was nothing wrong with it multiple times!!!! *tr
When driving at 65 mph after approximately 15 miles, the car stalled and wrench light appeared on dashboard. i was able to pull onto the side of highway and turned off the car. restarted the car and continued driving. while approaching intersection at 25 mph the same issue occurred. took to the dealer and paid $114 for a diagnostic test only to find out that the car wasn't spitting out any codes. dealer drive it on three separate occasions and could not replicate the problem. same problem is happening with fusion car owners and the throttle body is fixing the problem. ford needs to issue a recall to correct this problem before it results in accidents or deaths. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 75 mph, the vehicle would not accelerate when depressing the accelerator pedal. the check engine warning light was illuminated. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where the failure was unable to be replicated. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 40,500. *tr
I was on the expressway with the cruise set at 72. the car itself shut off the cruise and began immediately de-accelerating. pressing the gas pedal had no effect - the engine remained in idle. the wrench bar indicator lit up. i pulled off the side (huge potential safety issue had there been traffic around) and shut the car down in neutral. restarted - same issue - would not accelerate - it was as if the throttle was disconnected. i put the car in park, shut down, waited 2 minutes, and restarted. all functioned normally. ran the vehicle health report test and no indication was made of an electrical issue. . *tr
Driving 70 mph on road heading home, car stalled/no power, gauges died, was in right lane and able to pull off to right shoulder without getting rear ended. once stopped, put car in park and turned off key. wrench light also showed in dash before turned off. sat for a few minutes with car off, then restarted car. no lights in dash when restarted, so put car in drive and took off down the road. as i accelerated, car stalled/lost power again, gauges died, dash lights of engine and wrench appeared this time, steered to right shoulder and again was able to get off without being rear ended. turned key off again. sat for awhile. started car again, engine and wrench light were on in dash, pulled out onto the road again, driving slowly. turned car around and headed to repair facility. drove slowly without going above 50 mph, lights stayed on in dash and made to repair facility that was about 3 or 4 miles away, driving slowly, not the usual speed limit for the road. repair facility read the code which came up throttle body and suggested contacting the ford dealer. waiting for return call from ford service manager at this time. found investigation opened by nhtsa in march of this year regarding faulty circuit board for the throttle body. *tr
My wife in busy traffic at rush hour felt her car begin to shake badly, then lose power, she coasted to the side of the road nearly being hit by passing traffic. at the time the wrench light came on, we brought the vehicle to ford on may 10th, picked it up on june 10th, on june 11th the same problem... this car is again at ford dealership with what is being called a throttle body issue. we were scheduled to travel over 900 miles each way at the end of this month and have chosen an alternative. we're not even sure that we'll have our vehicle back. this is a very scary situation, in researching i'm finding many complaints for this same issue and it doesn't appear close to having a solution. *tr
On may 9, after exiting the interstate and coming off the ramp onto another highway, my car had no power when i went to accelerate. i managed to get to the side of the road. when i placed the car in park, it began to jerk. i cut it off and sat there for a minute. i started the car again and it didn't jerk anymore, so i decided to try and drive home. luckily, i did make it home (only had @3 miles to go). when the car was started the next day and while it was sitting in the driveway, the rpms would go up and then down and the car cut off. when i was taking it to the dealer for repair, it would surge while sitting at a stop light. had the car repaired. invoice says the throttle body was replaced. this is apparently an issue with this model car and ford should be made to fix this problem. it's definitely a safety issue! *tr
I was stopped at a light and when the light changed the car got up to around 15mph when the car stalled. i then put the car in park and was able to restart it. it ran fine for a few days and then there was another incident. i was at another stoplight and made a right hand turn. the car stalled again and was able to be restarted after placing the gear in park. *tr
After it sits for a day 1st and second gear slip but after it warms up its fine and the transmission fluid is black. *tr
Driving to work running fine first 18 miles then stalled and wrench light came just luckily was close to wrecker service. car would start sluggishly but when gas pedal pushed stalled and check engine light and wrench came on. had to have it towed to thornhill ford at chapmanville, wv. *tr
Accelerating from a stop at green traffic signal, my 6 cylinder fusion accelerated to approximately 25 mph and the engine stopped. i had no problem coasting into a nearby parking lot on my right. i turned the ignition off and after 10 seconds i restarted the engine. i drove home without incident afterwards. *tr
Driving on state highway at 55 mph. vehicle shuddered, then lost power though engine was still running. no response when accelerator pressed. "wrench" warning light on. pulled off the road, turned engine off. restarted engine. warning light off. it happened again twice yesterday and once today so far. took it to the ford dealer who said there was no code showing on the computer diagnostics. mechanic drove car and was unable to reproduce problem. instructed to return vehicle to dealership if problem persisted, which i expect it will. dealership said they suspect a throttle body problem, but since the code didn't show on the diagnostic and the car is under and extended warranty, they cannot replace it until it does. *tr
Driving on interstate at 70mph and felt a shutter then lost throttle response. pulled over started car to only have run until accelerator was pressed, then vehicle would quit running. finally got a dummy light (wrench light on dash) and limped car home. did some google research and found a mountain of complaints of throttle body going bad. went to dealer and they would not give any hints without hooking to diagnostic tool. decided to throw $200 away on new throttle body. i noticed the part number has changed a little from original. i can only assume to incorporate a fix for the massive amount that are failing. i hope it works. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated the vehicle stalled without warning and the wrench light illuminated on the instrument panel when the failure occurred. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who determined there could be a problem with the throttle body. the throttle body was cleaned and the failure occurred within two weeks. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was unknown. the current mileage was 15,797. *tr
Driving on highway at 65 miles went car would lose power and couldn't accelerate and car started to shake when came to a stop, cut car off, waited a min, cut car on, took a couple extra cranks before turning over, and car worked fine this had happened 3 times and is very random and dangerous. *tr
As we were driving in the freeway at about 70 mph on april 7th 2013, the car lost power and stalled out in the middle lane of the freeway. at that exact moment the car felt like it jerked hard and then stalled and the light with the wrench symbol came on in the dashboard. then it immediately disappeared after being on when the car jerked and stalled. manage to put hazzard lights on and make it safely to the freeway shoulder where the car after a couple of minutes trying and waiting started again as if nothing happened. after turning the car off the car would not turn back on and sounded like the engine was struggling to keep up after the car was jump started. the car then was making sounds in the engine bay and managed to make it to a gas station couple feet away and the car died again after turning it off to refuel once again had to get the car jump started. car once again started to feel and sound as if it was struggling to stay stable. had the car towed the next morning to local ford dealership where they replaced the battery and install a new throttle box. computer code at dealership determined cause of problem was due to faulty throttle box. *tr
While driving on cruise control approximately 70 mph, the car lost all acceleration. the engine is 4 cyl. engine light came on. coasted to right of freeway and came to a stop. turned ignition key to off and then restarted car. placed in drive and drove and accelerated fine there after. *tr
I was going through a school zone on my way to work. when i reached the end of school zone i attempted to accelerate but the engine would not. there was no throttle response and the engine was in a very rough idle. i pulled over, shut the car off, waited about 5 min and started it back up. on start-up, the engine cranked a few extra times before it finally turned over. i was able to drive again after that but noticed that the rpms jumped around when i was in third gear between 1500-2000 rpm. seeing the rpms jump around like that made me think that the engine was going to lose power again, as it is characteristic of this problem. this is third time this has happened to the car. *tr
3 times the vehicle has just shut itself off when driving in traffic. i put it in gear and it then starts again. some issues with acceleration while driving also. after having the vehicle for a few months the power steering would shut off while driving. ford has since replaced the steering column. the problem with the car shutting itself off still exists. *tr
I was driving on the highway and i started to feel the car jerk forward slightly about once every ten seconds. about a minute or so later i could no longer accelerate and the amber wrench light was illuminated. i coasted to a stop and pulled over onto the shoulder. when i came to a stop the rpms were very erratic and bouncing between 500-1000. i shut the vehicle, waited a minute, then started it back up. on start up the engine cranked a couple more times than usual but finally turned over. the car ran fine and i was able to continue driving. *tr
I was traveling down a busy road during morning rush hour and out of no where the car wouldn't move. as i pushed the gas peddle it wouldn't go and the wrench light on the dash came on. i almost was hit from the car behind me. i then put my flashers on and went to the side of the road. i turned the car off and started it up again and the wrench light went off and ran ok. i ran the vehicle report from the microsoft sync on the car and no warnings came up. while coming home it did the same thing again during evening rush hour traffic nearly getting hit from behind again. i pulled to the side of the road and turned the vehicle off and started it up again. it ran for another 9 miles and did the exact same thing again. while driving to the dealership it did this two more times. i just got a phone call from them saying it was the throttle body. after going online and reading other people having the exact same issue and about being involved in accidents themselves not really sure why this hasn't been recalled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thank god someone was looking out for me yesterday because the roads were slick and it was snowing really hard. now i have to pay $388.00 to have something fixed that should've been recalled in the first place. *tr
I had just got off the highway and was in rush hour traffic. traffic had come to a complete stop. when traffic started to move i attempted to accelerate and the engine rpms immediately dropped to around 500 and were very erratic. the engine was running very rough and the amber wrench light was illuminated. i was unable to accelerate and had to idle the car off the road to a nearby parking lot. i turned off the car and looked under the hood but couldn't see anything wrong. i started the car back up and it ran fine; the amber wrench light was no longer illuminated. i took it to autozone to have the obd2 codes read but it didn't show any codes. *tr
While driving to work one day my car shut off right after a turn going down a hill, the dash was illuminated and no lights were on other than the dash. i put the car into park and turned it off then started it right back up, it ran fine after that. there is another issue as well though, while driving it hesitated by shifting at higher rpm's than it should and took it to dealer on monday february 25, 2013 and they still have it with no explanation as to why it did any of those things that i mentioned. the only thing that the service guy says is "well until it is billed out i do not know what is going on with the car." i am very frustrated and just bought this certified pre owned two weeks ago. there should be a lemon law on certified pre owned cars, this is not cool. it has caused a headache for me and now i am stuck paying for a car i cannot even drive right now. *tr
I purchased a 2011 ford fusion se on february 22, 2013. i drove an hour and 15 minutes to the dealership to get this vehicle. on my drive home, i was sort of skeptical about the car because on the ride back, up and down the hills, i could feel a slight uneasiness of the car but thought that was just the how it was. the next three days it drove fine around town. on the fourth day, on my way pulling into work, i braked at the stop sign to let traffic go and as i let off the brake the car did not go anywhere. i sat there about 3 or 4 minutes before i could get it to go. once i got home, i left out to go to a store and parked to go inside. i came out and the car would not reverse. it took me about 15 minutes of constantly cranking it, shifting gears and pressing the gas before i could get it to move again. i love the car and its features but i hate that this is happening. what can be done to keep the car and avoid the problems with it? *tr
had the vehicle for about a month but had only driven it about 600 miles. (feb. 21, 2013 - 21,700 miles) my wife was driving along a 4 lane road doing about 50 mph when she noticed the car suddenly losing power. she was in the left hand lane with no shoulder or room to move to the right lane because of traffic and was almost rear-ended by a dump truck who had no idea she was rapidly slowing down because she wasn't putting on any brake to indicate this. she brought the vehicle to a stop but it would not move even when the gas pedal was depressed. she thought it had stalled but later told me she didn't notice any dash lights on. she turned the key off and restarted it and it ran fine the rest of the way home. called ford dealership where it was purchased and he asked about engine code lights (of which none were showing ). he said without a code he couldn't do anything. ( march 7, 2013 - 22,400 miles ) turning a corner from a stop the car accelerated and then lost power, engine seemed to sputter and run rough, pulled over and stopped. wrench light on dash was on, depressed accelerator pedal but nothing happened. engine was running but tachometer didn't move at all when accelerator was depressed. turned engine off, restarted, wrench light went off and ran ok. have also noted that transmission shifting is not always shifting as smooth as when we first started driving it. it seems to jump or lurch in at least one of the gears but this is just an intermittent problem right now. i will take note of this and report back. Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the throttle control and transmission warning light illuminated as the vehicle began to lose power. the failure recurred on three occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing however, the results were unknown. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 19,650. ..updated 02/25/13 *bf the consumer stated the wrench light illuminated on the dash, and the vehicle would quickly lose power and speed, go into idle/limp mode and the engine would continue to run at a very low rpm. pressing on the accelerator did nothing to help. the transmission did not activate, or shift. the vehicle would jump slightly, but very little. the only alternative was to turn the vehicle off and back on again, and then all of the functions were restored, but it also reset and deleted the code, so the problem could not be determined. the dealer kept the vehicle for three days of testing. on the fourth try, the dealer was able to duplicate the failure, in which a code of d42 appeared. updated 02/27/13
On the morning of february 7th 2013, i noticed the vehicle's acceleration and deceleration was ridged and jumpy. prior to this problem, the vehicle has shut off randomly approximately three times while in drive and in motion. this prompted me to bring the vehicle in for maintenance at a ford dealer auto center. they determined the power takeoff unit and drive shaft were faulty, replaced both parts and returned the vehicle to me on february 15th 2013. on march 18th 2013, the vehicle shut off again while driving at highway speeds on a busy road, forcing me to navigate cautiously to a shoulder. the engine light and wrench light were illuminated this time. i shut the vehicle off, waited 5 minutes, and restarted. the engine light remained on and the vehicle was drivable. i quickly returned the vehicle to the previous ford auto center, in which they discovered the throttle body was faulty. they replaced the throttle body and returned the car to me on march 21st 2013. on march 22nd 2013, the engine cover fell off while the car was in motion, i immediately returned vehicle to the previous ford auto center, they replaced with new engine cover. as of today, the vehicle is again showing hesitation at acceleration and deceleration, rpm dash meter needle bounces plus minus 500rpms during acceleration and deceleration. breaking is not smooth or instant, the vehicle tends to jump during breaking. at coasting speeds, the vehicle also jumps. these are similar problems that occurred prior to the vehicle spontaneously shutting off. this problem is alarming and an extreme safety hazard to yourself and others around you, notably at high highway speeds. ford has been presented with the issue and has claimed that the issues are all unrelated, even though the vehicle shuts off each time. i am concerned for my safety and the safety of others driving this model, 2011 ford fusion sel awd.
While driving my car lost power. i was not able to accelerate. i stopped the car, turned it off and turned it back on again. i was able to continue driving. took the car into the car dealer for investigation. they did not find a problem. on 5/8/2013 i was driving down the highway at a speed of 73 mph, all of a sudden my car lost power and started jerking again. i was not able to accelerate. i pulled over, turned the car off and turned it back on and was able to drive the car home. the next day i took it to the dealer and they said the throttle body was sticking. they cleaned it and said if it happens again it would have to be replaced. on 5/31/2013 i was driving down the highway at a speed of 70 mph. my car lost power again and starting jerking. i turned the car off for about 1 minute, turned it back on and was able to drive home. *tr
While in transit on a busy major state road, fully accelerated to the 60 mph speed limit, my car made a rather abrupt "hiccup" and immediately decelerated to 45 mph. i attempted to accelerate without success. the car continued to lose power, at which time i immediately pulled to the side median. the wrench icon on the dashboard illuminated. i contacted roadside service as the car has the remainder of the manufacturer's warranty in place. the dealership diagnosed the problem as a faulty throttle body with a fault code dtc p2111, and informed me this issue is not covered under any warranty. this is a known issue with the ford fusion line and could potentially result in serious injury or death. a recall should be issued, and ford should be held responsible for the repair/replacement of the faulty part with a part that has no defect. *tr
This is a report for a ford fusion with 45000 miles. first event occurred on freeway driving 65 mph. car just stopped accelerating and wrench light came on but i was able to pull over to shoulder and call aaa. when they arrived i turned off car and turned car back on and car "reset" itself to normal operation. i garaged the car for several weeks and tried to research problem but nothing confirmed. i drove again a couple of weeks later (again 50 mph) on highway and same behavior and made it to shoulder. turned car off and on to "reset". this is extremely dangerous and life threatening (may get rearended or not have ability to pull over...) got car to bickford ford service. they said they have one other 2011 ford fusion with same issue (numerous reports of this on internet but as of yet no recall) other car was covered under emission warranty to replace throttle cable because that car was from california. mine is not. $460 later... save receipt and hope this issue is listed as recall for reimbursement. this is a real safety issue!!!! *tr
