We have classified the 1266 complaints from 2010 Ford Fusion about STEERING into the following categories.
Vehicle power steering assist failure. restarted the vehicle after dropping my wife off. steering failed as i was backing up (vehicle in motion when failure occurred). display indicated vehicle power steering assist failure (or words to that effect) simultaneously with loss of assist. note that loss of assist doesn't default to manual steering efforts. one can manually steer but only with herculean effort. my wife would not have been able to steer. very lucky this didn't happen while on the road at speed (which is 90% of this vehicles driving).
While driving service steering now came on and no power steering started. luckily a strong man was driving and was able to get vehicle home, if wife was driving could have been a huge safety issue. took to dealership and steering rack had to be replaced.
My 17 year old son drove car home residential neighborhood, complaining it was hard to turn. i got in car and service advance trac came up as well as power steering assist fault. you can't turn the steering wheel, while driving!! so unhappy as i thought ford fusion had a good reputation. this is truly very dangerous, and i find it upsetting that 2010 year has not been recalled. going to take to service not looking forward to the cost as i'm seeing its over a thousand dollars!! *tr
Power steering fault light illuminated while in park, led to complete power steering failure and replacement required, rack and opinions plus rods left and right
Power steering went out while driving. called dealer and there was no recall. mechanic said needed new rack on rack and pinion. cost $1500.00. *tr
Daughter was driving 2010 ford fusion to school when she unexectedly lost power steering. fortunately, she was albe to safely park the car. when i went to get the car it was displaying both a "service advancetrac" and a "service power steering now" warning.
Steering became extremely difficult while driving on the freeway turning the steering wheel to exit the freeway. *tr
Takata recall started engine light popped on power steering failure steering wheel would not turn, turned engine off started engine again light went off and steering were normal.i know a recall were on 2011 and up what about the 2010 ford fusion?
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving 30 mph, the power steering did not respond and the "service advancetrac" and "service power steering now" warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 126,750.
After starting the car, a power steering fault would appear on the dash starting around 60k miles. the power steering will not engage with this fault. if the car was turned off and then turn back on, the fault would disappear. this continued off and on until 110k miles and now no matter how many starts and stops, the fault will not disappear.
My daughter was driving home from work last night made a turn and the power steering locked up, the dash went dark and it displayed a power assist failure, she stopped the car, turned the ignition off then on and the power steering worked so she could get home. on the way to dropping the car off at the repair shop the power steering failed again. this is a very serious problem with this 2010 ford fusion the power steering has fallen not once but twice, we replaced the power steering rack and pinion 3 years ago at 69,460 miles. the repair shop just called and the diagnostic code is that the power steering rack and pinion has failed again at 98,000 miles. i called fair oaks ford and they said they haven't had any issues like i described but you can see on the website that there are hundreds of issues. why hasn't there been a recall for this problem. *tr
My power steering goes out each year, displaying on my dashboard to "service advancetrac" and service power steering. i have been having this issue for 3 years now. it is very difficult to turn the steering wheel. the first time this issue occurred, i paid metro ford ( located on 6455 s western which is where i take my vehicle for service), five hundred dollars to repair my vehicle. the second time this happened, i bought the car back, i was told this time the problem is much more severe and i will have to have my entire power steering unit replaced, which could cost between $2,000 - $3,000. i could not afford it. i drove around an entire year with a dysfunctional steering wheel. i received a letter in the mail stating to bring my vehicle in for a inspection, so i did. the inspection was complete and i was told, they also had reset the car (which solved the power steering issue). this is now the third time this is happening, i called in and made an appointment to bring my vehicle in for a resetting and also explained the situation. they never attempted to reset the car, they were dismissive of my situation, and just keep insisting i pay $2k-$3k. please accuse any typos or run on sentences. i am frustrated as i type this. sorry!!! i have been told by a rep. there, they do not reset vehicles there, but i have documents stating that the vehicle was reset. the reps continue to dish out prices reassuring me my power steering unit needs to be replaced, but when i ask did anyone attempt to reset the car, i was told no. *tr
Power steering locked up at very low speed when making turn; dash went dark, power assist failure displayed. turned off ignition, then back on and power restored. repair shop, for the second time in 3 years, replaced power steering rack and pinion unit. 70k miles on this car. ford recalled 2011 for this but not 2010 yet is very dangerous. ford refuses to acknowledge problem with 2010 fusion steering.
My wife was driving her 2010 ford fusion when she hit a pot hole which caused the power steering assist module to stop working. she in turn lost all power steering and almost lost control of the vehicle. *tr
Takata recall. we have taken the vehicle 4 times towed to the same ford dealership. lorenzo ford in homestead, florida. steering wheel locked could not turn or steer. while driving the vehicle with my family in the car and turning on a busy intersection on 157 avenue and north kendall drive we almost got into a very serious accident head on. on another occasion while turning on sw 137 avenue and 152 street again the steering wheel locked up. also we paid $1800.00 to the dealership for repairs for this problem and the vehicle is sitting in our driveway with the same issue a locked steering wheel. it shows that the airbag is open and it is not. we are very upset and dissatisfied with the service that was performed at the dealership. we need help.there could have been a serious accident and perhaps loss of life. we usually don't complain but this is not acceptable. we have not yet received notice that the part is in to fix this problem. it's been since july 2016 that we received the letter for the recall and nothing has happened so far. the part that was replaced was the gear assembly -steering $1186.74 plus labor. since 5/2016 -10/2016 its been in the dealership 4 times. still not drivable. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving at a slow speed, the power steering failed without warning. the contact had to exert extra effort to steer the vehicle. the contact stated turned the vehicle off and back on and the vehicle operated normally. the dealer stated that the steering gear internal module failed, and was a fixed non-repairable component. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
The power steering assist fault indicator will not reset. loss of power steering. how can ford have a recall for the 2011 and 2012 fusions but not the 2010? this is very dangerous when you lose power steering while your driving. *tr
Every since i have owned the car the power steering assist fault will go out randomly. i had a ford dealership check it and they couldn't find anything after they hooked it up. the other places either. this time it went out on the road which was dangerous. i am very frustrated there is no recall on my year when this is obviously a ford problem. looking online there are tons of complaints.
Takata recall in a period of 30 days i lost power steering control twice while operating the vehicle. on both occassions i pulled over and turned the car off and on and the power steering continue working. due to the harzard and safety issues of this faulty power steering pump, i took the vehicle to my ford local dealership. they said that they would fix it and needed to replace the entire power steering assembly, cost was over $1,600.00 dollars. the same day i found out that there is a recall for the same model but 1 year newer. i contacted ford and they refused to replace it because my manufacture date did not correspond to the current open recall # 15s18. the car is running fine right now but as you can understand this is a faulty power steering issues and i dont feel safe driving this car like this.
Service power steering now warning light resulting in no power steering. yesterday morning when we started our car to drive me to work, the service advancetrac and service power steering warnings flashed and stayed on the dash. it was driving ok when we left our house to stop for gas. upon turning rhe car back on the warning changed to service power steering now and we had no power steering. my husband was able ro get me to work and back home which was a major struggle and now the car is sitting in front of our house. mileage is right around 78000 or so and just had service last week of august.
The electric power steering on the vehicle went completely out while driving the vehicle after the indicator light warning to service soon came on. this happened on a major roadway where the speed limit is posted at 55 miles per hour while the vehicle was in motion. during the turn is when it became more evident that it had already gone out, as the turn is narrow and it almost caused an accident with the car in the lane close to the direction i was going in. *tr
I have been experiencing issues with my power steering assist in my vehicle. the steering wheel automatically locks while either trying to drive (stationary) and while driving (in motion) the vehicle. the ford company has not released a recall for this issue, however there is a class action lawsuit for this very issue with motorists owning the same make and model vehicle who are experiencing the electric power wheel assist issue. i have found other sites where motorists have explained the same issue of the steering wheel locking/not working during the time of someone driving, turning the wheel, or simply preparing to drive the vehicle. i am expressing my deep concern for national safety as many americans have purchased this vehicle and are driving on the roads! i pray this recall can occur before someone may experience a fatality leading to death. i have uploaded a picture of my very own vehicle experiencing the power steering assist fault.
Steering assist fault. no power steering. was on and off, now just no power steering at all.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving 35 mph, the power steering seized and the power steering warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle restarted after one attempt. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the power steering rack needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 184,500.
While driving, the steering assist over steered causing me to go into an oncoming lane. at that time service power steering soon came on and service advancetrac came on. after i got the vehicle safely home i restarted it and it said service power steering now as well as service advancetrac.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving approximately 35 mph down an incline, the service power steering message illuminated. the power steering suddenly failed and caused the steering wheel to lock in the neutral position. as a result, the steering wheel would not turn in either direction. after turning off and restarting the engine, the steering wheel could be turned in either direction, but the power assist would not operate and made the steering wheel very difficult to turn. the cause of the failure was not diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 104,000.
Steering system suddenly failed while driving down the interstate. system flashed a warning and "ding" sound and i lost almost all steering. it took a lot of strength to exit and pull into a parking lot. this could have ended much worse. i turned the car off and back on and i had power steering again. this has happened twice in the last month.
We bought this car 6-7 months ago for our daughter in college. about one month ago, as she was leaving home, her car would not steer and she received a warning light that said " power steering assist fault". she put the car in park and turned it off and back on again and the warning was gone and the car operated properly. this past saturday while out of town, she again started the car and received the " power steering assist fault" warning only this time, no matter what she tried it would not clear. she even called a mechanic who tried disconnecting the battery, but nothing worked. she drove the car home 2 hours away with no power steering! we have found out after purchasing this car that it is a problem for many 2010-2012 fusion owners. the 2011-2012 were recalled, but not the 2010 for the exact same problem. i will be paying our local ford dealer 1368.00 friday for this repair. money i surely don't have lying around. we researched this car before we bought it and found only positive reviews...until this happened and we researched this "power steering assist fault" code and then our computer blew up with one complaint after another. clearly the 2010 needs to be added to this recall.
Driving car then lost power steering, able to pull to the side of the road. power steering assist fault light comes on, also advancetrac service light and abs light. this was a very dangerous condition. car has approximately 70k miles. took car to the mechanic he said it needs a new rack. this is a very expensive repair and really not acceptable in a car this age and condition. my mechanic cannot determine the abs problem till the rack is replaced. it seems a major design flaw that these components are all controlled electrically. seems there was a recall on the 2011 and 2012 models. 2010 needs a recall also. this is a very dangerous condition that happens with no warning. about 6 months ago had to have the motor mounts replaced(controlled by hydraulics). passenger side air bag not functioning, the list goes on. don't have an invoice yet as car is till in the shop. i will be reaching out to ford, but i don't expect a resolution.
Tl* the contact owned a 2010 ford fusion. while driving approximately 40 mph and turning left, the steering wheel seized and the "steering wheel default" warning message illuminated. the contact lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree. the air bags failed to deploy. a police report was filed. the driver and passenger sustained unknown injuries that required medical attention. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and deemed destroyed. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v793000 (steering). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
The electronic steering assist ... steering on my ford fusion is starting to fail i saw the was a recall from same issue on 2011 and up i contacted ford motor company and explained the problem they said they was no recall for my year model .. when im experiencing the same problem .. the steering wheel has locked on me 2 times while i was at work at walmart on 9/25/ 2016. at 44665 valley central way, lancaster, ca 93536 .. but ford refused to fix the problem . their only advice was to take car and pay the repair out of my own pocket
Steering sensor fault/ service advance trac.... 95,000 miles. complete loss of power steering at a speed of 2-25 mph.... 2011-2012 models recalled, however 2010 not covered and has the same trw gen 1 epas module!?!
Power steering failed trying to get of parking space, shut down engine waited 5 minutes and restarted engine...power steering was back, took car to ford dealer and they are going to replace steering control assembly at $1900.00 costly fix..
Driving home from work my steering asst fault light came on at the stop light and the car became difficult to drive fought the car home. days later got to the dealership to tell me the power steering gear need to replaced to the tune of 1800. to no fault of my own. the recall only included 2011-2013 when my car is doing the exact same thing noted in the other recalls
2 warning service errors will show up and power steering becomes disabled as driving on residential street. power steering became completely disabled by the time the tow truck came to pick it up. mechanic stated it was the same codes as the recall for 2011 ford fusions. had to take it to the ford dealer to have it correctly fixed. stated it was the steering rack assembly. looked up issue and many others with fusion has the same exact issue but no recall on 2010 models. same issue and fix for the ford fusions with recalls (2011 and above) extremely dangerous as power steering went out and could have caused a life threatening crash. luckily my fiance (future husband) was driving the car as i would have not been strong enough to safely pull over by turning the wheel.
Power steering system fault message came on when starting the car. restarted the vehicle but message remained. drove home 45 miles without power steering. next time i started the vehicle power steering was fine. stopped at ford dealer and they stated that nothing could be done if message was being displayed. message again appeared approximately two weeks later but went off when vehicle was restarted. took the vehicle to another ford dealer and described the problem (october 5, 2016). their diagnostic indicated that the power steering gear assembly needed to be replaced. this appears to be the same part that was recalled on 2011-2013 ford fusions. the part has been replaced at a cost of approximately $1,800.
Power steering failed. i had to have the unit replaced. vehicle was driven and parked. it set for about a week before it was driven. the power steering was not working when i drove it the next time.
I was driving and i lost steering i had had no control of my vehicle i almost crashed into another vehicle on a semi busy street, then the service power steeing now light came on. i had no steering i came to a stop put the car in park and restarted it. the service power steering now light came back on. i could not get the steering back i could not turn the wheel. my husband had to come get the car because it was to hard for me to steer. i had to have my car towed more than 60 miles because we dont have a dealership where we live. the service tech called me to let me know it was a failure on the power steering and the cost was around 2500.00 to replace it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that the power steering failed. the dealer diagnosed that the electronic power steering module failed and needed to be replaced. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 40,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving on the highway, the power steering failed, the warning indicators illuminated, and a power steering assist message displayed. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that a component related to the power steering failed. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 87,000.
Power steering quit working got message that said power steering assist fault ,im 225 and could not turn wheel at all. shut off car let sit for a short time started back up every thing worked as it should, ive had this happen 3 times hope it dont happen when going at high speed
My daughter's 2010 ford fusion power steering went out while driving after and was because she had a low tire. the advance trac system light is on but no power steering. we've had it looked atbut nobody can give me a solution and it's a $100 just to have the dealer run a diognostic on it. i've been doing some research and this appears to be a common problem with these fusions and most are replacing the whole steering rack averaging around $1500 to replace. i think ford needs to do a recall because of the danger of the power steering going out while driving.
Power steering. this is 7th time i taking my car to the dealership in the past 2 years, and 3 times this just past month. ive been told i new steering wheel has been put on and the same issue keeps coming back. i have never had any other problems with my car besides the [xxx] power steering failing. what is ford going to do about this.!!!!!!? or are they waiting for someone to die before they do something about it. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
My daughter's 2010 ford fusion power steering went out while she was driving it. she didn't crash the car but it made it hard to turn. he low tire indicator light came on and then all of a sudden the power steering just went out. we got the tire pressure back but now the power steering won't work. we had one mechanic look at the car but he says it's the steering rack and those cars are known for this issue. i've researched this and see there has been lots of complaints with the same issue and think ford needs to issue a recall before someone gets hurt bad or killed. i also own a 2012 ford fusion and the fuel pump went out in it and i have seen that this is a issue with this year. the cost of that repair was $555 and the steering rack can range from $1200 to $1600 and if ford doesn't do anything about either issue then i will not buy another ford vehicle again.
I was driving down a mountain pass and a warning light came on stating "power steering sensor fault" and at the same time my power steering went out. i did not know what to do so i manhandled it until i got to my office but had a difficult time making a left turn and could not manhandle it into a parking space; i had to find one i could drive straight into. when i came out a couple hours later, the power steering worked. i took my car directly to my mechanic and he looked it up online and found many were having the exact same issue and yet there has not been any recalls (please see: http://www.aboutlawsuits.com/ford-fusion-steering-problems-nhtsa-evaluation-72172/). i took my car to riverside ford in sumner, wa to get this fixed and they are telling me that there has not been complaints regarding this issue. all you have to do is go online and you will see many stating the same issue. this is a safety issue and i am worried about others out there who have a sudden loss of steering. please look into this before someone gets hurt. a recall needs to take place. i called corporate received a case number of cas-10508774.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced a loss of power steering. the power steering and traction control warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the electronic steering assist assembly was defective and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 69,784.
My vehicle was stationary, setting in a parking lot. when i went to back out of a parking spot, i got an indication on my dash "power steering fault" and the steering wheel was unmovable.
In spring of 2014 while driving in my military barracks parking lot with a passenger the steering wheel suddenly locked up while turning causing the vehicle fight back from the turn. power steering failure and service advancetrac notifications appeared. i then had to park the vehicle with no power steering and had a fellow service member look at the vehicle and we determined to take it to a ford dealership. the ford dealership claimed it to be a random issue and charged 1700$ to replace the pin and steering rack. two years later in september 2016 while driving the power steering failed again in the same manner. i contacted the same ford dealership in which they still claimed it to be a random fault and it was two months out of warranty for the steering rack and pin and would charge me 1700$ to replace the power steering again. i have since drove without due to not be willing to pay to replace it as it was too costly to continue to repair the issue.
Unable to steer car. car was stationary. car was parked in a parking lot. was leaving the site. i started car and when i started to move i realized the steering was not working. i was unable to steer car. immediately stopped and called aaa for a tow to the local ford dealership. *tr
When back up from parking spot and garage, the steering wheel was locked. "power steering assist fault" message showed on the dash. happened several times during the week, sent the car to dealer to check. but, the dealer couldn't find anything wrong. the dealer's action was reset the software code. it happened again during the weekend. the car was sent back to the dealer. the whole steering gear was replaced and cost $1670.
