We have classified the 205 complaints from 2004 Ford F-150 about VISIBILITY into the following categories.
The driver's door glass fell into the door without warning, .leaving it wide open. 1.there were no events leading to the failure. 2. it can only happen once before repair is required. 3. i was required to purchase the entire window regulator assembly because the part was not available by itself. this is at a cost of $220.00 plus tax. the old part is available. *tr
I have replaced 2 window regulators on my 2004 f150 and now have a 3rd broken regulator after only 37,000 miles. they are all different windows. the first was the driver window then passenger now rear driver side. i understand this is a very common problem and 99.99999% of regulators fail with barley any use. please put a recall out for these regulators because it costs $422.00 to fix each from the vista ford dealership in woodland hills, ca. *tr
All four windows in my 2004 f-150 have had the window regulator break. two have broke when rolling up the window and two have broke all on their own. i have paid over $1,000 to have these issues fixed. *tr
Window regulator on vehicle fail, windows fall down without warning causing noise and safety concern. this is my second replacement on two seperate windows. seems to be a common problem. *tr
I have a 2004 ford f-150 with 36,500 miles. i have already repaired both front power windows and two days ago the passenger rear power window gave out. is there a recall on the power windows it seems to be a common problem in these trucks? my window is being held up with tape. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 ford f-150. the contact stated that the vehicle exhibited a loud banging noise. the contact then noticed that the driver and the passenger rear windows were opened. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where they advised her that she needed to replace the window regulators. the vehicle was repaired for the the driver and passenger rear regulators. the failure mileage was approximately 70,000. the vin was unavailable.
2004 ford f150 power window actuator failed for the 4th time. ford has indicated this to be a problem but has yet to fix/recall. three separate windows have failed and now one has failed twice. the part is approx. $140.00 to replace without labor. my f150 has 75,000 miles on it and the first time it happened was at 45n000 miles. *tr
We own a 2004 ford f-150 and was driving down the road and hit a small bump and the passenger side window just fell down. i had to take to a body shop man to fix the window. *tr
After rolling down window to gain access into work parking lot in the morning, the window regulator clip broke resulting in the window being stuck in the down position. truck was then left unattended with personal possessions and window wide open and vulnerable to theft while i was at work all day. several dealers were contacted and then i finally found someone who could fix my problem the following day for $340. truck was then driven directly home and the window was covered with plastic to prevent weather from entering vehicle overnight. window regulator was then replaced with identical window regulator. this does not appear to be an isolated problem on 2004 ford f150 window regulators, and i am glad my case was not as severe as others (i.e. windows falling into door panels). however, i do think this is a material/ design defect that needs to be addressed with ford motor vehicles. ford truck owners should not have to worry about their windows failing each time they use their truck because a cheap piece of plastic is being used to save on cost. this is a simple issue that could be resolved by using a metal clip. *tr
Power window regulator failure. *tr
Husband found driver rear window down after work. thought somebody had broken in. then 3 weeks later was driving and rolling up window with 2 children in back seat and heard a loud snap and passenger window slammed down and wouldn't go back up. we have spent almost $600 on regulators! after reading all of these same complaints ford should recall this problem. i am afraid could happen to remaining windows in inclement weather with children in vehicle!!!! *tr
Ford f150 2004 driver's side window dropped suddenly while driving with a loud noise. i removed the window regulator assembly and the problem is the plastic clips that hold the control cables in place. they appear to be cheap and fragile and break easily letting the cables come out of their guides and therefore dropping the window unexpectedly. luckily i was driving slowly in a parking lot but if it would have happened in a highway for example it could have led to an accident because there is a loud noise and then the window just drops into the door. *tr
While rolling down my rear driver's side window, i heard a popping noise and the window fell into the door. i had it repaired (new regulator) at a cost of $390. two weeks later, the exact issue occurred with my front driver's side window. i have investigated a bit on the internet and discovered hundreds of complaints describing these exact symptoms. this is a security problem and a safety issue for individuals who may be driving in poor weather. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 ford f-150. the contact stated that all four window regulators stopped working on his vehicle. within two weeks of each other, the regulators completely failed. when the last regulator failed, the driver's side window shattered inward while driving approximately 65 mph. prior to the failure, the contact heard a loud popping sound. he took the vehicle to the dealer after the first failure and was provided the necessary part to repair the vehicle himself. he filed a complaint with the manufacturer. the current mileage was approximately 60,000 and failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
My 2004 ford f150 supercrew has had a window fall down 3 different times so far. all three times were different windows, but the same problem. the window regulator is cable driven and the cable gets stuck or comes off of the pulley, then the window falls inside the door. *tr
While putting up the driver's side electric window in my ford 2004 1/2 (new style) f-150 supercrew i heard a loud bang and the window disappeared. the bang was so loud that i thought someone had shot out my window while i was driving. if i had been in busy traffic this could have caused an accident. fortunately i was on a 25 mph road at the time and no one was hurt nor was there an accident. the problem was with the window regulator cabling. the cabling separated from the window which resulted in the loud bang i heard from my drivers side window. from my research this is an ongoing problem. this problem has the potential for some very serious consequences if the driver were to overreact to the loud "gun shot" sound when the failure occurs. *tr
I was driving to the airport this morning to pick up a work colleague for an important meeting. as i was driving i heard a loud pop that sounded like something hitting the door. i swerved and nearly hit the car next to me. startled, i pulled over at the next exit to see if maybe someone had thrown something at my truck. there wasn't a scratch or dent anywhere. i got back in started down the road when the window suddenly dropped out of sight so i pulled over again and the found that it would not go back up. there was seemingly nothing to do at that point but take my suit jacket off and hope to not sweat through my shirt before out meeting. i picked up my colleague, late, then were late every subsequent meeting the rest of the day. as soon as i could, i took went to my local dealership who already seems to know what's wrong before i can finish telling him what's wrong. he tells me it's going to probably be in the range of $375 to fix. after renting a car to get back to my office, i checked online to see if this might be a common occurrence only to find hundreds of complaints about multiple windows on the same vehicles needing to be replaced. so, after nearly wrecking my truck, running late, appearing disheveled at my own customer meetings, and driving around in 100 degree weather in a suit and tie, all because of a problems that my (previous) favorite automaker is fully aware of, i'm so mad and frustrated that i can hardly see straight! on top of that, it sounds like can probably look forward to the same thing happening 3 more times (at least). the only thing i can think to do is to send complaints wherever i can find and keep copies of those complaints so that when the next window "pops" and startles me into oncoming traffic, i'll at least have proof i did make everyone aware of my own personal experience. this is such a potential danger and expensive inconvenience to the customer that i request a recall from ford to replace all window motor/gears before. *tr
Regulator on two windows of my ford f-150 pick up failed. i got the one fixed and about two0 minutes after i left the ford dealership, the other one failed. *tr
Driver side window dropped into door .had to have fixed .this truck should not have this problem ,it is a 2004 lariat 4 door . please do something i bought this truck new at franklin ford, franklin, mass. *tr
There was no warning for the eventual failure of my window regulator on my 2004 ford f150. one day i went to roll the window down and the whole thing fell down inside of the door. after i was able to get it back up, i had to wedge materials between the window and door to hold it up. i have been unable to use this window for drive-thru and sometimes when it rains, my drivers seat gets wet because the window falls down halfway. i have been unable to have this problem fixed due to the cost of parts and labor, therefore i have gone months trying to just deal with the situation, until i could pay the $400.00 that it costs to fix this problem. however, upon doing research online, i see that i am not alone and that this is a common problem with ford trucks, therefore, if i don't have to and i am not responsible for the repair, i'd rather not be! i have also been afraid that someone will be able to get inside my vehicle because if they really wanted to, all they would have to do is roll the window down manually-very easy to do with it being broken. *tr
Windows keep falling out, this the third window that has fallen (defective regulators). *tr
As i was driving through my neighborhood the passenger side window suddenly fell into the door with a loud thump. afterwards, the window failed to operate. 2 days later as i was driving on the interstate the driver side window suddenly fell into the door with a loud thump and afterwards failed to operate. this is a failure of 2 windows within 2 days in a catastrophic failure mode. i was not harmed in this specific incidence but this occurrence could be dangerous in poor weather. i do not believe the manufacturer will repair the failure even though this is a common complaint as evidenced by a quick internet search. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 ford f150. the vehicle was parked when the contact observed that the front driver side window fell inside the door without assistance. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. the failure was contributed to the window regulator which was replaced. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on a separate occasion for the identical failure with the front and rear passenger window regulators which were also replaced. recently, there was another failure occurrence with the front passenger side window regulator. the vehicle has not been repaired. the contact has concerns of the safety risk involved. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 71,0000. the current mileage was 84,000. updated 11/06/09 *bf updated 11/09/09*jb
Rolling down drivers windows and heard loud bang then grinding and window slowly sank down and will not go back up. i removed door panel and found twisted wires and broken plastic from the windows regulator. only 24000 miles. quality is crap...should be recalled before all my other ones do the same thing and i have to pay for ford's incompetence. *tr
I heard a loud pop while waiting for my wife during her annual school meet the parents. then all of a sudden my window fell inside the door. i tried proceeded to roll up the window, but just heard a chain like noise with no result. i thought, something broke just like that. weird. after reading a couple of blogs looks like i am not alone. this is how i came to this website. *tr
Well its a window regulator problem or the pulley system that rolls the window up and down. i've had my truck for about 4 years bought it brand new and im having to replace 2 window regulators so far. i hardly use my windows and i have noticed a lot of others having the same problem where there window falls down into the door making a loud bang. luckily both times i was there to see it but if i wasn't i could of had tools inside stolen or the truck stolen. it would also have been very dangerous if i had been driving at the time the window slammed down into the door both times it has happened after i turned the car off and all of a sudden the window slams down. i see hundreds and hundreds of people on the internet that are trying to find a recall and there is no recall. the part by itself is 200 or more dollars that's if u fix it yourself. if u get ford to fix it then its another 300 or more. the pulley system is cheap and plastic the cables are always in a big knot and chips out of the wheels for the cables. the new one i got looked exactly the same as the first one making it seem to me they aren't trying to fix the problem. i would like to know if a recall is going to happen it seems like it will be an ongoing problem. *tr
2004 xlt regular cab: under 14,000 miles on the vehicle and when i go to roll up the window the other day, i hear a pop and it sank back into the door. another bad window regulator! quoted $380 to fix from the dealer. if you read previous comments on the 2004 f-150 you'll see that this is quite the common problem. and for every post about window problems on this website, how many other people have this problem and don't report it here - 10x as many? 20x as many? this is obviously a widespread problem that ford motor company needs to live up to. the replacement part is exactly the same, so i guess i can expect another replacement soon! and to think that i thought that only getting a standard cab with 2 windows might help me avoid this problem!!! luckily, my incident occurred in fair weather. i can only imagine the safety concerns that i would have had i been in inclement weather. *tr
Loud pop noise from driver window. window not wanting to roll back down. took door panel off can see that the cable in there is broken motor still spins and glass is attached to the track system needs replacement cables if possible or new regulator somewhere around the $300 price range to fix. *tr
Passenger side electric window slid down inside the door. this has already been replaced once and the driver side window did the same & also had to be replaced. *tr
While driving, heard a loud "pop", "klunk". after rolling down my window, tried to roll it back up, but now won't roll up. this has happened to 3 of my windows. the problem with 1st window occurred 1 yr ago--other 2 window broke w/in a few weeks of each-other. i've had one window repaired. the dealer said a small plastic part broke and that it is a common problem. cost to repair one window: 360.00!!! this is a safety problem---if you cannot roll your window up, it leaves the driver vulnerable. why would ford use a small plastic part on such a big component of a truck? is there a recall on this part? if not, can you please explain why not? i would not be so upset if this problem occurred in 1 window, but three?? now i'm waiting for the 4th window to go. and at 360.00 a pop! something just isn't right. *tr
On august 8 the driver's side window regulator failed and the window fell into the door. the dealership charged $387.00 for this repair. one month later both rear window regulators failed, and the glass fell into the doors. no warranty was offered or implied. *tr
August 2008 while driving on i5 south out of sacramento passenger window f-150 4x4 xlt super cab truck fell with no warning or indication of failure. incident startled me and caused me to swerve at freeway speeds. problem determined as faulty window regulator not covered by ford or under warranty. problem not repaired as item is expensive for the labor and part. currently have door panel off window being held up by a wooden stick. passenger has to be let out of vehicle from outside. *tr
My f150 lariat supercrew 4x4 only has 19,000 miles on it and is very well kept. while power rolling my window up, i heard a loud bang, like my truck had been hit. upon inspection i noted that my driver side front window would not stay up. after contacting my local ford dealer (advantage ford) i was informed that it was a faulty window regulator unit and that it was a common problem. i contacted ford in the desire for them to fix this free of charge (warranty had expired based on years but not miles). they would not do so. the dealership charges $365 to fix the window or you can purchase the part for $150 and do it yourself if you are so inclined. i have found numerous reports of this problem with these trucks online and this part should be recalled by ford and fixed free of charge. *tr
I have a 2004 f140 supercrew 4x4. last week i heard a pop come from my passenger side rear door and not a minute later my window fell down in the door. two days later i heard the same pop come from my passenger side front door. two regulators popped with in three days. i can't afford to fix them right now so i'm riding around with vise grips holding my windows up. this is ridiculous. this is the second ford pickup that i've had this problem with. ford really needs to issue a recall. *tr
I have you seen how many complaints there are for faulty power window motor/regulators? i was leaving my place of employment which we scan out and my window would not go back up. when i got home i removed the door panel and the cables were twisted, kinked and frayed. right now my window is propped to keep weather out...should i have a wreck how would i get out of the window...sure go out the passenger side.. this wasn't exactly a cheap vehicle and it definitely isn't the most expensive... but you would think it would last longer than 4 years. i have seen vehicles 20 years old that the power windows still work. *tr
Driver's side window simply fell down (open). *tr
Drivers side window regulator failed, cable snapped and the window fell into the door. replaced, cost me $350. right side rear just failed, haven't repaired as of yet. from the sounds of it i should expect more failures. this isn't right!! does someone need to get hurt before action is taken to have this issue recalled? *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 ford f-150. while driving 25 mph, the passenger side window fell off the regulator and into the door. the driver's side window experienced the same failure one year prior to this incident. the contact feels this is a safety issue because the climate changes often and his vehicle could be stolen. the current mileage was 32,000 and failure mileage was 28,000. updated 06/08/09 *bf updated 06/18/09.*jb
I have had 2 window regulators fail on my vehicle within 2 months. the regulators have been on separated windows but both have been on the drivers side. at any given moment the cable snaps and the window falls down into the door. my first instance was the end of july while on a road trip. now it is the beginning of october and my rear window dropped into the door frame with 57k miles on my vehicle. i do have an extended warranty; however, why should i pay a deductible everytime a faulty part breaks. not to mention there are many people that don't have extended warranties. there are several reports of this happening. i have 2 windows left. should i expect those cable to break at any given moment? should we expect to replace all window regulators every 50k miles? ford need to recall this faulty part! it is scary and potentially dangerous to have the window fall down all of the sudden when you are driving down the interstate. when the window falls down there is no way to get it back up. everything in the vehicle starts to blow around and you can't see. i can't imagine what it would be like if it were raining when the regulator cable breaks. i appreciate any help you can provide. *tr
There is a problem with ford f150 window regulator cables. they are under pressure, fail and snap with an extremely loud bang. the one on my driver's side front door window failed on 07/17/08 at 23,446 miles when i was going down the road at about 35 mph. the noise was so loud i thought someone shot my door, causing me jump and swerve in my lane. the one on my front passenger's side window door failed on 08/24/09 at 30,779 miles going down the freeway at 70 mph. internet research reveals that this is occurring to many people. this piece is obviously defective and the problem should be remedied by ford before someone gets hurt. *tr
I went to put up the passenger side rear window, heard a snap, then the window sank into the door. this is a safety issue, both potentially for theft and for injury. i am no longer covered under warranty, for this issue. there are many ford f150 owners experiencing the same issue, on multiple windows and is an ongoing issue. i am having the window regulator replaced at significant expense. i've owned vehicles 10 years and never had this problem, and yes, they were fords too. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 ford f150. the contact stated that the two rear windows and the driver side windows all fell down into the door frame. the dealer stated that the regulator failed. the contact went to two different dealers and each one repaired one window at the contact's expense. the dealers stated that they would reimburse her, but the contact has not yet received any compensation. the dealers further stated that they would not pay for the third window at all, although the contact believes this is their responsibility. there are no recalls on these windows. the failure mileage was 58,000.
July 08 driverside power window regulator assembly failed, $400 repaired aug 08 passenger side power window regulator assembly failed, $400 repaired oct 08 rear driverside power window regulator assembly failure, not yet repaired all winds became stuck in the down position. *tr
I purchased my 04 ford f150 brand new back in 04 from paul miller ford dealership in lexington ky. since that time, no real problems. in july of this year the passenger side window without reason or circumstance fell off track and into door leaving me to pay for a new window regulator. repair was made at crossroads ford in frankfort ky. in september of this year the same issue occurred with the driver side window leaving me again to pay for the repair when it happened without reason. searching on line, i discovered that many more owners of the same make and model have experienced the same. i have already paid nearly 300.00 in repairs after the esp. october 3, i contacted ford dealership who advised me there are no recalls on my vehicle and that they would not assume any financial responsibility for this issue. i can understand 1 window, but now 2 and there are 2 rear windows that may potentially do the same. i also believe there is a leak in the 3rd brake light on my vehicle where water continues to poor in; however, ford denies that as well. in both of these repairs at crossroads, the window regulators were replaced and no reason as to why both would fail. there were no preceding events to report, the vehicle was parked in both instances when these happened. hopefully someone else has reported this similar. *tr
Window regulator on ford f150 2004 just let window fall could not park any where until i got home took apart and propped window up so nobody would break into truck good thing it was not raining from dealers notes seems this is happening a lot. *tr
Vehicle window regulator fails. it is associated with a loud bang. the window then falls into the door. the window is now unable to be moved. the vehicle is now not able to be secured. this is the third window regulator failure on my vehicle. started with drivers side, then passenger side, now the passenger side rear failed. dealer reported that this is very common and is due to a faulty part. ford will not address this problem and fails to fix / replace the regulators until they fail. this part needs to be recalled and all windows fixed prior to failure. *tr
I purchased my 2004 f-150 three months ago and i have now had to replace the window regulator three times (two on the same window). i have found many complaints online from consumers with the exact same problem. ford needs to step up and recognize this problem. it costs anywhere from $200.00 to $400.00 to get it repaired each time. i cannot afford this on a monthly basis nor should i or anyone else need to put up with the obvious defect with fords window regulators. thank you for your time. *tr
In april 2008 the right rear window fell due to a broken regulator and just today the driver window did the same. two months from each other is not right two years maybe but not too months. i would like something done immediately. *tr
3 out of 4 of my windows fell into the door frame. known faulty regulator (ford knows this part is faulty) broke. two of the regulators broke while vehicle was in operation. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 ford f-150. when the contact opened the rear passenger window to air out the vehicle, she heard a popping sound. the window fell all the way down inside the vehicle door. this is the third window to fail in this manner within a year and a half. the only window which has not done this is the front driver's side. the vin was unknown. the current and failure mileages were 70,000.
