We have classified the 205 complaints from 2004 Ford F-150 about VISIBILITY into the following categories.
I was driving down the road leaving work when my passenger side window rolled down on its own, tried to roll it up but all i herd was a crunching sound. was doing about 45mph when it happened, scared me a bit, because it happened so suddenly. today 5/7/09, however when i woke up and went outside, my rear drivers side window was down, i again tried to roll up the window and herd the same crunching sound, but this time i knew it was the regulator, since i had just fixed the other window 2 weeks before. the part was replaced the first time for $265.00 and im guessing its going to be the same price again. *tr
I have a 2004 f-150. the window regulator broke and the window will not go up. this is the second time this has happened. the first time my truck was parked in a parking lot not being used while i was in afghanistan. it was taken to the local louisiana ford dealership where they said it happened all the time. i was charged around $400 for the repair. about 4 months later the same problem happened while my parents were driving with my 2 year old daughter in the truck. i once again contacted the local ohio ford dealership and the repair cost is going to be about the same as last time. i talked with the service manager who gave me the ford customer care number. ford does not seem to care that this problem is happening. they told me that there was nothing they could do other than document my concern. i was given this website to file a formal complaint, and am amazed at how many other people are having the same problem. i have contacted the federal trade commission and filed a complaint with them as well as notifying my state attorney general. a onetime problem is understandable but for this to happen twice to my truck and seeing how many other people have had the same problem is pathetic. i hope the nhtsa inspectors see how many people are having this problem and force ford to correct it. please have ford recall this part before someone gets hurt, or a truck being stolen over a faulty piece of plastic. thanks *tr
I purchased my truck used from the local ford dealership when it was three years old, it was a certified used vehicle. roughly one year later the driver window fell into the door and when i pressed the switch to put it back up, i heard a grinding noise come from the electric motor and the window did not budge. it cost me roughly 400.00 dollars from ford to replace it. this past weekend i was driving along and the rear passenger window did the same. i had my dog in the back seat of my truck and when the window fell my dog went straight for the window. luckily i grabbed him before he got any closer to it. thank goodness it was not a small child. this is a huge safety factor and ford should stand behind their product better and recall these problems because apparently this is a big problem. if a child gets hurt because of this problem the law suit will cost much more than if ford just recalls all the problem. thanks. *tr
My window fell all by itself. turns out it is the regulator, and the window will not go back up. the only place the part is available is through the dealer, and it costs 254.00 plus tax and labor to install. *tr
2004 ford f150 window track failure. the driver's side front window regulator/track broke causing the window to fall into the door. within 6 months of that time, the driver's side back window failed in the same manner, less then 6 months later the passenger side front door window failed as the previous 2 windows and within another 3 months, the passenger side back door window failed in the same manner as the prior three windows. obviously, this is the fourth window track that has failed. each time the failure happened while driving. the only alternative offer by ford motor co. was to pay a dealership to replace the window track. *tr
Bought this truck used with no warranty. within 1 year, 3 of the windows in my 2004 ford f150 have slid down into the door with me being unable to roll it back up. the first two times it cost ~$350 each time. i am now saving up money to fix it a third time. this third time, it happened to a window that was fixed last year, making this the second occurrence for that window. i have read numerous customer complaints about this defect. please make ford recall their trucks so this can be resolved once and for all! i am broke and driving around with a shower curtain wrapped around my car window in a red neck southern town! i cannot see out of that window! i can't afford to keep fixing this window with the economy the way it is and i'm out of a job! *tr
April 23 2009 driver window went down with out warning while driving my 2004 ford f150 super cab with 8? bed with 40000 miles on it. the window regulators plastic cable retainer broke releasing the cable and the window. while searching the internet i found out that this is a common problem and that ford has changed the part and part number 3 times trying to fix the problem. this was a great distraction while driving and could have been a safety issue had pets been on board or if items had blown out the window. *tr
Passenger window regulator failed for the second time, window slammed and almost caused an accident while driving. drivers one replaced 5 months ago. now being told that the rear two are "going out" as well and need to be replaced. dealership recognizes that there is a problem with these regulators, called ford customer relationship center and all they would do was offer me a $750 gift card if i agree to buy a new ford truck in the next 30 days. are they kidding!!! i have always owned ford trucks, but am going to look at the new tundra now as i can see that ford does not stand behind their products, so much for being built ford tough..... *tr
I have a 2004 ford f150 and i have had nothing but problems with the windows. i have had 3 of my window regulators go out on this truck and its only 5 years old. i feel this a major problem with these trucks since i know i am not the only person who has had this same problem. first i hear a loud bang in the door (even when i'm not operating the window) and then the window drops. this is a safety concern since i have children, and for safety of the truck itself. i'm afraid that if im at work or school that this will happen and the truck will be vandalized or stolen. *tr
Ford lariat f150 while visiting a friend on april 20th, 2009 , my truck was parked in driveway, windows all up & doors locked. when i got ready to leave, driver window was down and it would not go back up. ford dealers already closed , i drove home. have searched several sites to see if there were others with this problem or complaints of this. i was shocked there were so many 136 complaints here site #1: http://www.carcomplaints.com/ford/f-150/2004/windows_windshield/window_does_not_roll_up.shtml site #2 : :http://www.fordf150.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=47037 site # 3 : http://www.mycarstats.com/safetystation.asp?cars=1338942 why so many complaints but yet ford doesn't recognized it. we have been a long time ford owner ,but this problem makes me think i don't want another ford. had other window problem with rear sliding window not working, but always worked when took in to dealer while under warranty. doesn't work at all now. windows seem to be a big problem for ford on their trucks. what will it take a window dropping down and shattering and someone getting hurt from it or cause a serious accident .also defeats your purpose of locking it up, if the windows are going keep falling down. i will be surprised if i get any kind of response to this . i figure, like most , it will be looked at then thrown out. will have to take to the dealer in the morning. i feel ford should be responsible for this ,since it has been going on for several years with this year of truck. *tr
Driver side window made a pop while going down, the window stopped about halfway down and then would not go up or down, the window motor still operates, and the window is in the track. the operation cable the moves the window up and down broke off at its connector, resulting in the unit needing to be replace. this is a frequent complaint on these vehicles. *tr
Drivers side window fell into door after a loud pop and cracking sound. window will no longer engage with power switch. *tr
This is the fourth time i have had to replace the window regulator on my truck. its a major pain when it does happen, and it never fails to happen at the worse times. all four times (once for each of the four windows) it has happened while i am just driving along and the window just falls into the door. it is really expensive to fix at the dealer ($400). *tr
The window motor is defective on the driver side of the vehicle, cannot find the correct part for replacement without having to pay $500 at the dealership for something that i can do myself.. it started with the window occasionally getting stuck, and now won't go up at all. *tr
Driver side window fell while driving. *tr
I own a 2004 ford f-150 fx4. i have had the regulators on both my driver side window and rear passenger side window. both went out at separate times but both while i was driving. this is a huge safety problem. thank god when this occurred i didn't have children in the back seat as the window fell so hard it could have shattered on them. this is my 4th ford vehicle and my family has been a true ford family for years my father wouldn't have it another way. it is just truly sad that ford will not acknowledge their mistake and faulty product and take responsibility for this problem. they should issue a recall on all these window regulators. if not i'm sure they will lose many ford families and customers over this. it is very disappointing. *tr
We have a 2004 f150 with 30,000 miles on it. our front passenger window fell down while we had it parked at the airport for 3 days so no one was touching it and it was closed. we could not pick it up so when we got home we got the window up. we can not roll this window down and have it up with tape. we were told that it is not covered and has not been recalled but there have been many complaints according to the website autobeef.com. we have not fixed this problem because it is going to cost us $400 and we do not have that kind of $ to fix something ford is responsible for. *tr
2004 ford f150, 40k miles. driving down road, hear loud pop, then the drivers side window fell into the door. luckily glass did not shatter. determined that window regulator had failed causing the problem (loud pop then window falling into door). subsequent search of this failure indicated it is quite common. federal government should require ford to issue a recall to proactively replace these defective parts. could cause driver to suddenly lose control of vehicle. *tr
One time i was driving home from work so i rolled down my window and when i got home the window wont come back up. i had to leave the truck with the window down all night. i opened the panel and wires were everywhere i took it to a mechanic and he replaced the whole window harness. this happened about a year ago. now the button in the back door and the passenger door wont work and i think it can become a problem in future. the windows come up and down but only from the drivers control panel. *tr
I believe that the ford regulator is a very big safety issue. a window that can just fall down into the bottom of the door with no warning. here is why i find it a safety issue. i live in nebraska and i deal with some pretty nasty weather . my wife and i are expecting our fist child and if we go somewhere in the middle of winter and the window falls down in a snow storm this could cause a threat to my new born. i believe ford motor company needs to step up to the plate and get this resolved. i am in the military and have server over seas, i am not a big fan of putting my family in danger. this is a problem that needs to be resolved it could but my family at risk. *tr
2004 ford f- 150 window failed and fell down and could not roll the window up. *tr
I own a 2004 ford f150 and on dec 21, 2008 my rf window came crashing down and scared me half to death. the window was rolled up and just fell into the door making a loud noise. i was an hour and a half away from home traveling on a 2 lane highway that is very hilly, curvy and usually windy. it is one of 2 hwys that lead in and out of a very popular offroad area called ocotillo wells. most of the traffic on that road consists of big trucks with trailers full of quads, motorcycles, buggies and family members. i seriously almost flew off the road because i was so shaken for that moment. it was so sudden and loud that i thought my window had been shot out. people do hunt in the area so not a far fetched conclusion. i got home safely and had the window repaired the next day. yesterday, april 5, 2009 it happened again. i was with my pregnant wife and 2 dogs on our way home. this time it was the rr window. it came crashing down in the same manner and scared us half to death, again. this time one of my dogs nearly jumped in my lap making it difficult to drive. the remainder of the ride consisted of my wife trying to keep one of my dogs from almost falling out the window. nothing like wind in the face for some dogs!!! my truck is in the shop again today with this same repair/safety issue. i'm writing this because i have read numerous accounts on the internet regarding this same issue. i'm very frustrated that this problem can actually cause someone to lose control of their vehicle and crash. i know this first hand because it has happened to me twice since dec 21, 2008. i still have 2 more windows that have not broken and have no idea when they will come crashing down. will my family and i be statistics because of and really cheap part??? or will i kill someone's family??? i am also not pleased with the fact that they are charging all of us almost $400 per window to fix the problem. ford should be fixing this problem. *tr a very concerned, jeff shores
The driver's power window in my 2004 ford f-150 suddenly dropped down into the door and will not close. this happened while the truck was parked in my driveway. had this happened, while on the road, it could have well caused an accident - especially in inclement weather. when using the window control, the window motor runs; however, the window doesn't emerge from the door. this is a known and dangerous defect in 2004 ford f-150's, yet ford refuses to issue a recall. instead, ford charges $400 for repairs, using the same defective parts! ford must be held accountable for this! *tr
The passenger side rear window came down on its own and will not go up. this is the third window in the truck to have this issue, the driver window went down and would not go up and the driver side rear window also went down and would not go up. this occurrence is especially troubling as the window went down unattended leaving the vehicle and contents open to theft. *tr
Electric window motors fall apart inside doors. *tr
Passenger side automatic window fell into the door and does not roll up. *tr
The drivers side window regulator failed in my 2004 f-150 xlt. the window popped and then dropped while i was driving down the freeway. it was very cold out. a quick search of the internet will show you this is an extremely common problem with this model, and i believe it to be a danger to drivers. *tr
Drivers side window was down sunday, warm out, went to put it up and nothing worked, just a grinding noise. after removing the door panel , window regulator gone bad, wiring everywhere. after a minor internet search thousands of complaints about this part. apparently when they fail the window drops and in some instances the windows break, causing major damage in the door. this is a safety hazard . now i have to pay to have this repaired, but i will not pay ford for there incompetence and refusal to correct a known factory defect !!! 2004 ford f150 !!! i had reservations in buying a ford and now i know why,, same company,, nothings changed. *tr
I have a new body style 2004 ford f-150 and just the other day my passenger side front window just dropped into the door while i was driving about 55 miles an hour down the interstate. there was a sort of popping noise and then the window just fell into the door. the situation startled me a great bit, but luckily there was no accident. upon further personal investigation i found that the failure of the window regulator was the reason for the window dropping. the cable driven window regulator is made up of cheap plastic parts that are obviously not strong enough to hold the weight of the large window over time. *tr
My 2004 ford f-150 with ~15000 miles had the passenger window "pop" and fall inside the door. while fixing i found several forums complaining about how common this problem is and insisting that it is unacceptable. i agree, so i am adding my voice to the list of people unhappy with the defect. *tr
Window regulator failure in both front windows in the last 6 months. *tr
All four windows on our truck have had a motor problem, windows go down and don't come down, the first two were under warranty and the last one was not and it's very expensive and now as od 4/13/09 we have had the fourth one go down and get stuck. now we have to take the truck in yet again and it's not under warranty but we only have 45,000 miles on it. *tr
the cable that operates the automatic window in my driver side door broke and the window rolled itself down and would not roll up. the same thing happened to my dad's f-150. *tr
I have a 2004 ford f150. december 28, 2007 a thousand miles over warranty the passenger side window fell. no buttons were touched. it just fell. now a little over a year later the driver side window does the same thing. this time the same dealership, duval ford 9043876541 wants over $500 to repair the window. if this part is continuously breaking then why is it not on recall? it is not normal for a window that is barely put down just falls and break. that's not even considered wear and tear. that's just poorly made and assembled. these are just a few of the websites that i found with other people complaining or trying to solve this problem: http://wiki.answers.com/q/what_causes_ford_f150_truck_windows_to_go_down_at_whim http://www.fordf150.net/articles/idx.php/0/019/article/how-to-repair-the-power-window-regulator--motor.html http://www.carcomplaints.com/ford/f-150/2005/windows_windshield/power_window_regulator_failure.shtml i just think this is ridiculous and needs to be looked into further. this should not be happening. not twice in a year and the same thing on separate sides. unacceptable. *tr
While driving my 2004 f150, i heard a loud pop and the driver door window fell into the door. this caused me to swerve and run off the road. i thought i had hit something or that my truck had been shot. *tr
I recently returned to my truck after purchasing a movie to have my driver side window slam down into the door when closing it. the motor is now making a grinding, crackling noise but the window will not move. ford needs to step up and take responsibility for faulty parts and fix the problem. *tr
Window regulator in my 2004 ford f-150 fx4 failed while attempting to roll up window. after a loud pop, the window fell through and will not roll back up. *tr
My 2004 f-150 electric windows keep failing. they fall into the door while i am driving and it happens with no notice and at highway speeds. when it happens it is quite distracting because of sudden there is a loud noise and a huge force of air coming into the cabin. when it first happened i thought someone had fired a weapon at my truck. the first time it happened the dealer fixed the problem under warranty but would not fix the other windows even though they admitted the problem was common with my type of vehicle. it happened again just after warranty expired and the dealer split the cost with me. the third time it happened i was on my own. it is a several hundred dollar repair. the problem appears to be a simple piece of plastic with a pulley that allows a cable to wind around a motor shaft. although the cause is simple, the repair is not and the entire door must be taken apart. the biggest problem is that the failure will scare the driver and significantly take your mind off the road. if a child is sitting next to the window, the event could even have more several consequences. ford apparently knows of the problem based of ford mechanic comments about the issue being common to the 2004 f-150 and the number of repair kits they go through. below the date is the most recent occurrence. *tr
I was driving when i heard a loud pop! at that point my driver side window rolled down and couldn't be rolled back up. ford said they would look at it for 200.00 and that was just to look at it. i tore into it myself and found the window regulator to be broken. ford wants to charge me 198.00 for the whole assembly. this i believe to be rediculous. also my passenger side window does not want to role up with the passenger side control so that is inopporative. one more thing my cruise control doesn't work half of the time. my major complaint though is the window regulator as this seems to be a major problem with ford components and even the ford mechanics i talk to say this is a big problem. *tr
My 1 and a half yr old son and i had just pulled up to church. i rolled down the front passenger window to talk to a relative and as i pressed the down button i heard a loud pop. i wasn't sure what the noise was, so i went to quickly roll the window up and check the outside of the truck. as i tried to roll the window up, i realized it was the window that made the pop because the window quickly fell the rest of the way into the truck. as i did not have any other option, my son and i had to drive 15 miles home going 45 miles per hour in the cold february night (i had to bundle him up as best as i could) because there was not another option for us to get home (and the window would not stay up). after research online (and talking to ford dealers) found out it was the window regulator and quite common in 2004 ford f150 lariats. i feel this should definitely be a recall because it could be very dangerous if this happened on the highway going 65 - 70 mph! 09/27/10 (63500 miles) - driving in town the rear driver side window just fell down into the window. no ford dealer in our town we had to drive 45 minutes in the cold of october with a piece of cardboard in the window (that kept moving and causing the window to continuously fall into the truck and having to make many stops along the way). same issue - window regulator had to be replaced. 04/10/11 (69000 miles) - driving home from church in town the window started to fall into the truck. as this is the third time this has happened, we are 100% sure it is the window regulator! setting up an appointment with the ford dealer to get it fixed. researched online, and this has happened to many other 2004 ford f150 lariat truck owners! again, we are very thankful we were not driving on the highway at 70 mph with our little one in the back in the middle of winter! very unsafe!
I have a 2004 ford 150. the window regulators keep failing on my truck. a window will suddenly start sliding down and then it will not go up. it has occurred several times and is unpredictable. it occurs while driving at highway speeds and is very unsafe. this is a known defect that ford has refused to recall. *tr
I have had to replace the drivers side window and regulator twice on my f 150 truck. as i was putting the widow up each time i heard a loud screeching noise as it approached the top of the door, then i heard the breaking of glass inside the door, then the window dropped completely down inside the door and it will not come up. this is twice i have had to replace it at a cost of about $400. this occurred on 02-25-2009. the first time was approximately two years ago. i searched the internet and found this is not an uncommon problem with the 2004 f150 fx4. i do not believe i should have to pay $400. every two years just to roll up my window. *tr
I am on the third window regulator in my 2004 ford f150. all of these are on different windows and have cost me $351 dollars each time to replace. my complaint is why has this product not been recalled with so many people having these problems. *tr
The power windows on ford f-150 2004. i have had three fail on me while driving. all three failures have happened within a year, to three different windows. i bought the truck brand new, i do not abuse it, i drive to and from work on the interstate. the doors have all failed when rolling up or rolling down, all failed while driving. this has happened to lots of drivers http://www.carcomplaints.com/ford/f-150/2004/windows_windshield/window_does_not_roll_up.shtml this is the third time this has happened, and i have no recourse with the company. it is dangerous to drive this truck in the rain, because you never know when it will just quit working. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 ford f150. while driving he attempted to roll up the window, but the glass fell down into the door frame. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the window regulator assembly was replaced at an expense of $369.00. three thousand miles later, the passenger side windows failed identically. he notified the dealer and was advised that there was no warranty or recalls on the windows. the failure mileage was 40,000.
Window fell down while driving on the interstate; 2004 f150 pick up. *tr
I think ford should do a recall on the window regulators. mine in particular is broken in all four door. it is a safety hazard. the latest one made a loud bang and got my attention and almost distracted me. and its not like its only happened to me. almost every f150 owner is suffering just like i am. *tr
Back window on drivers side door spring or something broke in door and window started to come down by itself my dog almost jumped out and would have been hit by a car. no reason that should have happened. *tr
We recently purchased a 2004 ford f150 supercab. two of the windows did not roll down properly from that door, but did so from the driver's switch at the time, so i figured it was a problem with the individual switches. then later the next week, the driver's window and switch began to fail. the window may roll down, but may not roll back up when the switch is pressed. each door is sporadic with these symptoms. i read on-line at the volume of failures with the ford windows motors & regulator with this model, and wanted to submit my complaint as well. the windows have not completely quit working, but from what i read, it is just a matter of time. *tr
2004 ford f-150 drivers side window fell down while driving down the road. i took it apart and the cable pulley is broke off. *tr
