Recently reported VISIBILITY problems on 2004 Ford F-150

Failure of passenger, rear left, rear right windows while driving on the freeway. at different times. took it to dealer for repair. cost about 416.00 each time. *tr

Power window regulators fail prematurely causing glass to fall and fracture. *tr

Rear passenger window fell into door without being opened, appears that the window hardware broke causing the window to fall. motor still works, but window can be opened/closed by hand. *tr

Three incidents with the power windows have occurred in the past two years. windows have fallen and won't roll back up. the regulators seems to keep breaking with normal operation. the first one to go was the rear driverside door, then 6 months later, the front drivers side door, then 4 months later the front passengers side door. *tr

My passenger power window fell completely down into the door while i was parked in my drive way and my grandson who had his hands on the window was pull outside and almost fell on his head. luckily i was able to grab his feet and stop him from hitting his head on the drive way. i had the window fixed but the mechanic whom fixed it told me there was a design flaw in these power windows and that it could do it again. sure enough about 3 months later this time my drivers side window fell. i emailed ford and they said they couldn't help me. i posted a complaint on carcomplaint.com along with the other 114 complaints for this reponse. this needs to come a recall before someone gets injured. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 ford f-150. while driving less than 55 mph, the contact heard a loud popping sound from the rear of the vehicle. she thought something struck the window, but minutes later, the entire rear passenger side window collapsed into the window assembly unit and the door. the dealer replaced the window regulator. previously, the same failure occurred with the front driver's side window. the window regulator was replaced at that time as well. both repairs cost $450 each. there were no recalls for the failure. the current and failure mileages were less than 64,500. updated 12/8/09 *cn updated 12/09/09.*jb

Power window regulator/cable malfunctions/breaks and window drops down. *tr

While driving in 100 degree weather, loud pop was heard as if something had been shot at the truck. wife swerved and when she pulled over found nothing wrong with exterior of truck. when she tried to roll down the driver side window the window just fell inside the door and would not roll up. forced to drive around in 100+ degree weather. plastic part on window regulator snapped and because we complained about passenger side making noise both were replaced. have two more in the truck and ford dealer will not replace them until they actually break. *tr

I was driving and went to roll down my driver side window on the way home from work and the whole window just dropped into my door never to be seen again. to my luck, it began to rain.....badly. as if getting wet wasn't enough, every time a vehicle would pass me going the other direction at an intersection i would get splashed with nasty road water in my face!!! it sprayed me so bad once when a vehicle passed me that i hit the curb and could have easily had a horrible accident or worse, killed someone on a curb!!! this cost me over $300 to have the whole motor assembly replaced in the door and sounds like it is all too common due to a poorly designed plastic tab that breaks. what will it take for a recall on this? some poor persons' child getting hit at a bus stop during a rain storm? can't wait for it to happen again. *tr

Repeated failure of window regulator in late model f-150 (2004). i have heard many other with same problem. my window fell down inside the door while driving, which startled me almost causing a serious accident. *tr

Driver door window wont roll up or down. pulley mechanism is broken and the window just slides down into the door and wont stay up. *tr

I have a 2004 f150 crew cab. i have had all windows fall down while driving or finding my truck sitting parked with the window fallen all the way down.. i have had things stolen out of my truck and the interior soaked. i have called ford customer care every time and they do not give a [xxx] about the faulty plastic window regulators they are having so many problems with. it is ashame they are not being proactive before something serious happens because of it. if my wife and child were lost and in a bad area and the window fell down with no way to get it back up she would be vulnerable. if a storm came and she was driving in an area with no refuge in the cold with a baby in the car, then what? they are also not willing to help pay for the repair even after the 3rd window had the same problem. i am furious they are not standing behind faulty parts the chose to use and will never buy another ford again! it is a very, very, very well known problem. at least toyota is standing behind their screw up. no wonder people buy japanese. it is very disheartening. please help do something about this problem before something happens.the failure mileage was 65,000, the current mileage is 80,000..............[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I have had all four window regulators go out on my 2004 ford f150 truck. this is ridiculous that there has not been a recall because they are obviously defective. tons of people are going through this and i am fed up with driving with two broken back window that fall down when they are not taped up. *tr

While driving rear passenger window fell, got it fixed in california, el monte ford, it was under warranty @ 56,312 miles. that was on july 20, 2007. right side passenger window fell while driving today march 9, 2008 out of warranty @ 64,545 miles. i have noticed there are quite a lot of problems with this window regulator assembly, when will it be recall or has it already been recalled. twice this has happened while driving and could cause a accident not to mention the exposure to outside weather. also when will it happen to the 2 front windows?thank you paul garcia *tr

Right rear window inoperable glass fell into door. *tr

Left rear windshield continues to fall, after having it serviced 4 times, and replacing the regulator (small motor). now this is the 5 time i will have this serviced again, and i have only had the truck for 2 years. *tr

All five electric window mechanisms in our f150 fx4 supercrew have failed and have had to be repaired, including the power rear window. not sure if it is the heat that kills the plastic gears or what. rear window mechanism failed after leaking when it rained (2x). all except last window covered under warranty of 3 years/36k miles. *tr

2004 f150 4dr defective windows. all three windows have fallen down into the door in the past 3 year. ford dealership quoted us each window would cost $500 per door. at this point we have place a bar in the window to keep them closed. *tr

At 37k miles and 35 month old, the passenger side window fell out of the track. the dealer replaced the regulator free of charge even though the warranty was up at 36k. at 39k miles, the driver side regulator failed. dealer ship had been sold and new ownership would not consider helping with the premature failure. *tr

Two power windows have fallen and won't roll back up. the regulators seem to be broken. the first one to go was the right rear passenger door, then 6 weeks later, the driver door. *tr

I have a 2004 ford f-150, supercrew, pickup i purchased new from a dealer. i have replaced the window regulator on the driver's door 2 times already, and right now it is failing again. *tr

The failure occurred when the vehicle was unattended. the failure is the window regulators on my 2004 ford f-150 crew cab. the failure left my vehicle unsecured with newly purchased christmas presents inside. my major concern now is if another fails for the same window or another window while my pregnant wife is driving and the window just starts falling into the door, how is she going to react and maybe cause an accident or even worse it happens while traveling in cold weather and having no way to secure the cold weather outside the vehicle. i understand from the my local ford dealer that they carry these parts in stock because of the number of failures and "they keep in stock what moves". the only thing done for me to correct the failure was to have the parts replaced, ford's repair on this part is close to $500 before any taxes. after having the parts replaced, the tech showed me the failed part and its where a wire rope that controls the movement of the window attached to the window support and that wire rope attaches to a piece of plastic, the plastic is what broke and to my eye doesn't look like it could ever survive the life of a vehicle. *tr

I was driving down the road one day and my rear passenger window starts going down and i cannot get it back up. took it to the dealer and the plastic part holding up the window had broken. cost approx $330 to fix. yesterday i turn on my car and the drivers front window has now done the same thing. i have researched online and many have this problem. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 ford f150. while the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed the front passenger window rolled down into the pocket of the door. the window would not roll up or down. the vehicle is no longer under warranty and the contact was responsible for repairing the window. the front driver side window was previously repaired when the vehicle was under warranty. the vin, purchase date, and engine size were unknown. the current mileage was 50,238 and failure mileage was 42,000.

I have a 2004 supercrew and have serious problems with the automatic window mechanism. first the driver front window just suddenly fell into the door while driving my family to a pumpkin patch. i paid to have that window repaired only to have the driver rear window fall into the door! i was waiting to get the money to repair it when, you guessed it, the passenger rear window fell into the door! i currently have them both taped closed so my two boys in carseats don't freeze every morning! this is apparently an issue that needs to be addressed and fixed! *tr

Currently own a 2004 ford f150 fx4. the driver side window suddenly fell off the track while driving and into the door, thankfully it didn't shatter. took it to the dealership, wasn't covered under warranty. it was the window regulator. cost around $500 to fix it. a year later the driver side window fell of track when shutting the door and fell down into it. don't really have the money to fix it, so we rigged it to stay up, however it falls slowly while driving and we have to keep pushing it up. now the rear passenger window has fallen down- where our child sits and this is becoming a problem. $1500 to fix 3 windows in 2 years is not acceptable on something that is clearly a defect. ford claims they are waiting for the nhtsa to require the recall from ford, until that happens they wont correct the problem. this is a safety issue as well as a consumer issue. please continue to advise ford of this defect and urge the recall. *tr

I was sitting in my home office with my 2004 ford f 150 parked right outside where i could see it. all of a sudden just out of the blue, the driver side window (which was closed) drops completely into its cavity with no cause and the alarm starts beeping. it turns out after inspecting the vehicle, doing a little research online, and then removing the door panel to further inspect it that a cable which operates the window to go up and down had broken. i have not taken this any further yet as it is the weekend, but will contact ford on monday to see what their reaction is. i feel this could be a very dangerous situation if it were to happen while someone was driving the vehicle. my online research turn up many instances of this happening to others with ford f 150 trucks, some reporting as many as 3 instances! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 ford f-150. the contact stated that the window regulators were continuously failing. the vehicle was taken to the dealer upon each failure and the regulator was repaired by replacing the motor with the same type of motor that originally failed. the manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. the failure mileage was 33,767 and the current mileage is 52,600. updated 4/4/11 *cn updated 07/22/11

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 ford f-150. at approximately 34,000 miles, the front driver side power window would not roll up. the dealer repaired the window under warranty. thirteen months later, the driver side rear window failed to roll up, however, the vehicle is no longer under warranty and the contact would have to pay out of pocket. through research, he discovered a number of people experiencing the same failure and he believes that it is due to a manufacturer defect. the current mileage was 38,000 and failure mileage was 34,000. updated 12/12/2007 *bf updated 12/12/07

I have a 2004 ford f-150 super crew cab lariat. since i purchased the truck, i have had to replace all 4 of the window regulators. on two occasions, i was driving down the road and i heard a loud pop. as i turned to see what the noise was, i observed my windows falling into the door frames. the noise was so loud, i thought someone had thrown something at my vehicle and hit it. it was a scary situation, due to the fact that i was driving and the loud noise was extremely startling. the other two window regulators, which broke on separate occasions as well, happened while the vehicle was parked. i came outside the first time and thought that i had accidentally left one of my windows down....only to realize that i had yet another broken window regulator. the last one that broke, was easily recognized as a broken regulator, due to my previous experience with the prior 3. i have had to have all 4 of my regulators repaired at extremely high costs. these regulators that just break for no apparent reason are extremely dangerous, not only to the vehicle operator, but other vehicle operators as well. if i did not have the training and experience that i have regarding vehicles, i could have easily inadvertently caused an accident due to defective parts on my vehicle. *tr

Sitting at a light with drivers side window in the up position. heard a huge bang and saw windowing dropping into door. if this happened while truck was moving it would be very distracting possibly causing an accident.

On my 2004 ford f-150 super cab the window regulators have failed mechanically on both sides. the result of the failure is the window dropping into the window well abruptly. i can understand 1 but both within 2 weeks of each other indicates a design flaw. *jb

Drivers side window regulator failed, window went down and will not roll back up. trying to fix myself, but will have to purchase parts from ford. the truck is a 2004 f150 xlt super crew with 69k miles. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 ford f-150. while driving at an unknown speed, the contact observed a loud, abnormal noise. the contact discovered all four power windows were inoperable. the dealer advised the window regulators failed and replaced the regulator at the contacts expense. the failure recurred three times and the regulators were replaced by the dealer and an independent mechanic. the manufacturer would not provide any assistance. the failure mileage was 26,887 and the current mileage was approximately 46,800.

While driving on highway, passenger door window was rolled down when it suddenly failed and rolled down on its own. prior to this failure, a loud snap was heard and the window remained down and unable to rolled the window up to secure the interior of f150 2004 lariat pickup truck. *tr

As i was driving home from work today my drivers side window made a loud pop noise and it fell into the door, i was not lowering my window at the time, just basically driving normally. i am now unable to raise it. last year it happened to me with my driver side back window. i had to take the door panel off and have it fixed. after reading previous complaints and seeing that it is a problem i am very worried about the safety of my children while i am driving. i am now going to try the dealer tomorrow to see if they can fix it under warranty. living in arizona where the temperatures are very high this can be a dangerous problem. *tr

Over the course of a year all four windows on my 2004 f150 have failed. the bracket mechanism breaks, following a large noise, and the window slides down. each instance i had to take the vehicle into the ford dealership to have the regulator assembly replaced. *tr

During the first week of july 2007 the passenger's side window suddenly slid down when i activated the electric window. during the second week of the same month the driver's side window suddenly slid down when activated. i removed the inside panel cover of the doors and noticed the cabling hanging loose and wound around twisted on the motor that caused the window to go up and down. upon inspection, the problem was attributed to weak, bad or incorrect design. this sudden problem caused a severe safety risk to any driver or passengers. *ak

The power window motors on the 2004 f-150 supercrew failed. the motors just stopped working and the window proceeded to slide down. the ford dealership, sunset ford, 623-977-5233, has acknowledged that there was a defect, but won't proactive replace the motors. this has caused a hazard because i was driving on the interstate and the passenger window suddenly failed, causing it to slide all the way down. my son was seat belted in,. however, his window had no controls. not to mention that i had a $700 gps stolen from the truck as another window just failed.*ak

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 ford f150 truck. the contact was driving approximately 40 mph when the front driver side window regulator failed and the window independently opened. the window would not close and the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the window regulator was replaced. the failure recurred on the rear driver side window and the dealer replaced the regulator. the failure recurred on the front driver side window. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was awaiting a third repair. the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 71,000.

I own a 2004 fore f-150 crewcab. in june 2007 the driver window failed during operation. it was repaired by an independent mechanic for $262.20. in march 2008 the passenger window failed during similar circumstances. the same mechanic repaired the window for $266.91. in june 2009 the rear passenger window failed during operation. my husband and i have identified the failed part within the regulator and are seeking to repair it ourselves. we are eagerly awaiting the rear driver window to fail and hope we are not driving at highway speeds when in it happens. *tr

three windows in the 2004 f150 crew cab had the window regulators break, causing the window to drop into the door. the first time it happened the truck was under warranty and dealer fixed and said it was a known issue. second time it occurred was out of warranty, but covered by extended warranty after paying dealer $50.00. the window that dropped today was covered under extended warranty, but will cost another $50.00. dealer said it was a known issue, and still charged to fix the window.*ak

Nothing led to the failure, the regulators just failed. at the time i drove my truck maybe once a week, as i was a stay at home mom. i believe i was on my way to kaiser for a "well baby" check up when i tried to roll my window up, it just dropped in to the door, never to be seen again. at least not until my husband rigged it to stay up. about 2 months later, the same thing happened to a different window as we were pulling out of the driveway to go on a camping trip. that was a good kicker for the 2+ hour drive. the truck didn't even have 40,000 miles yet. it's been about 2 years since then and i still can't afford to pay nearly $800 to get them both fixed. the second window regulator that broke isn't rigged as well to stay up, it still falls. so, it's great when it falls all the way down on my way to day care in the morning so my two toddlers can freeze. i love ford! not really, i wish i had never bought this truck or stepped foot in their dealership. but as long as they are getting my money, they don't give a '!@#$% about me or my family.

I have a 2004 f150 with 22,000 miles on it and every window regulator in the truck has gone out and send the window crashing down. this is the fourth one. ford will not recall it, it is a know issue. the dealership told me, "lady its you and thousands like you." *tr

I own a 2004 ford f150, three of my window regulators had to be replaced due to poor design from ford. the front two were still under warranty, & the right rear which was replaced last month 08/2010 i had to pay out of pocket. reading all of the prior complains, i had similar situations. the windows just simply fall down without any notice. one of the incidents my family & i were on the freeway & when one of the window regulators went out it caused a loud sound, we actually thought someone had hit us. soon after the sound of the wind not circulating properly was making our ears hurt. this is a safety matter that needs to be addressed by ford!! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 ford f150. the contact stated that each window regulator failed and was replaced at least once since owning the vehicle. on two occasions, the window glass shattered all over the contact. the initial failure was repaired by the dealer. the vehicle was taken to a local repair facility for repairs to the remaining windows. the failure mileage was approximately 18,000 and the current mileage was 51,000. updated 11/16/10. *lj

2004 f-150 supercrew 2wd automatic. transmission requires rebuild at 54000. bought new all seals replaced within 2-3 months due to fluid leaks. slipping began less than 40,000. fluid flush alleviated the issue, but slipping returned. at 60 mph trasmission slipped into neutral momentarily at random times. power rear sliding window does not work; failed within first 2-3 months; no computer code to detail the issue so ford will not fix regardless of confirmed failure and warranty coverage. rotors had to be replaced on first break maintenance.*ak

Drivers window squeals when operating the power window. same sound made by other windows of personnel friends that have had the window regulator failed after the sound started. just waiting for defect failure in indiana. *tr

My drivers side window fell into the door and i was unable to raise it with out taking the door panel completely off. it was 24 deg f outside and i was exposed to these temperatures until i could get to a safe place to temporarily prop up the window. after research i found this was a quality defect on the window regulator of the new style ford f150. this quality defect has potential dangerous consequences, if more severe weather such as a severe snow or rain storm existed it could have caused an accident. *jb

Window drops into door and can not be closed. fixed first one myself for $150 part cost...........since then both passenger windows have dropped, one while driving, very surprised it did not shatter. was able to close windows by insetting wood to wedge it shut......have not replaced motor yet for those windows. *tr
